Season 4, episode 10 titled Close Your Eyes.
We wish.
Jeff Fisher here,
joining me, of course, is Jason Butchell and Maximus Fisher,
and open your ears because that makes this talking fear.
All right, so the episode.
Wait. Was it really titled that?
Yeah.
Oh, my gosh.
Okay.
All right.
They trolled us.
They absolutely trolls.
Okay, so the IMDB description is Alicia's forced to reckon with an agonizing past while seeking refuge from a storm.
Okay.
If the show kind of sits with me better today than it did going through it.
Shut up.
How?
How?
We'll go through our group text a little bit in a little bit.
Can I please be letting on that?
You were.
I was like that.
I added you.
You did?
Yes, I did.
So back off.
Get your phone.
Where is it at?
I added you last night after the first one.
Thank you.
I can edit that out or I may leave it in just to prove that you need to look at your phone.
Mine shows two people.
Maximus Fitcher is not one of them.
for the first one.
But, oh my gosh.
Yeah.
Not anywhere on there.
Oh, what the hell?
Yeah, because I didn't get any alerts on my phone.
I added you.
I thought I must not.
It must been operator error.
This damn phone.
All right.
So yes, I meant to have you in on that.
I'm sorry that my phone messed up.
Back to the episode.
Yes, back to the episode.
So it does, Jason.
You're going to be mad, but it kind of sits better with me today.
Okay.
You've got to explain that.
I don't know.
It just, I feel like, you know, during the episode, I felt like they just, you know, they really want,
they're forcing her on us.
They're forcing Charlie on us.
And I just, I really kind of, I wanted more from the storm episode.
I wanted to see what the other characters were doing to survive the storm.
well, not just Alicia and Charlie, in a Texas house, you know, hidden from all other places.
And we saw the footage from Houston and all areas surrounding of these major neighborhoods flooded to the rooftops and above.
And just their basement got flooded.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right.
And it was just, it was, it took 35 minutes for anyone for Charlie to speak, right?
it was just a leash chef before then.
Yeah.
And so I get it.
I was trying to get to know them, try to open up.
We always talk about backstories.
We want to get their feelings.
We want to know what's going on.
We got a little of Charlie's backstory.
We know about her.
And so, you know, my original feeling of just shoot each other and get it over with,
please, maybe they'll both drown in the basement.
We'll be done with them.
But now I'm kind of like, well, okay.
My hard part with this entire show is that they have so many great opportunities and they blow it.
Now, I'm not going to go into blowing the opportunity of the beginning of the zombie apocalypse in a major city.
We talked that to the death.
We're past that.
But you have a hurricane.
And think of all the cool crap that you could have done.
You teased it with walkers flying all over the place.
You could have been doing stuff like that.
like that the entire episode.
Yep.
But instead, you lock them in a house because I'm assuming they didn't have the budget to do
anything else.
So, and maybe the safety as well.
I mean, maybe, I don't know, like, was it actually raining, you think?
And actually.
I think it was.
Yeah.
I believe that they were filming at least during some of that of Hurricane Harvey.
Harvey.
Harvey.
Okay.
Well, I mean, for one, like, what's the first thing you don't do in any, I don't care
if it's George Romero or any other film?
You don't go in a freaking house.
when there's walkers coming all surrounding you. You just don't do it. You know, like there was four
of them, like Miss Rambo Walker zombie apocalypse chick, which they want her to be. Could have taken
four walkers out like in a second. She already, she already did that in the house. She took out
four of them. That was a good, I have to admit that was a good scene where she was when she first
walked in the house and she killed the walkers. That was a good scene. Yeah, yeah, agreed. But I, I, I feel like,
I can't watch it now because I feel like they're forcing her as like Miss Rambo. You know what I mean?
And that's what irritates me about it.
I'm like, I don't care.
I don't buy the Alicia's Rambo.
I don't either.
I'm like, what?
The only chick Rambo I see is Carol.
Agreed.
That one's completely believable because we've watched her, you know, development over what, eight seasons, seven the seasons?
Right.
And then we, and give Michone a little love on that as well.
Yep.
A total bad A, yeah.
Oh, man, which she had, when she was using the Walker Slaves.
Yep.
That was great.
So great.
Yeah.
And so they're believable, completely believable.
Alicia, she's not.
No, she's not.
I mean, she was the girl that was like, I don't know, some people will criticize it and say,
oh, yeah, but you know, lots happen.
She's had a long, you know, no, not really.
I mean, she hasn't really had that much of a development period where she's rambled
all of a sudden to me.
Well, Jason, you're forgetting the time that we, during the time jump, that long period
of time where she had to develop this badass.
Yeah, those 12 months or whatever.
Yeah, I showed that a video yesterday, which he loved.
It was the recap of season, of the beginning half of this season.
Yeah, and who is that from?
Skybound, the actual company.
Skybound company.
Very funny, very truthful, said many things that we've said on this podcast over and over.
It's really funny.
And it makes you think, do they actually know?
Yeah, but you do feel like they know.
And we've talked about that before.
They just
with the budget
I feel like
You know
Last week we talked about how we felt
They scrapped
The opening show
And gave us a new opening show
I feel like this show
Was one of the ones they didn't scrap
You know what I mean
Like they scrapped the season
But they felt like well we can still leave this one in
Yeah
Because we've got we still have to make her
You know part of it
We can still see mom in her
We don't want
We're trying to
I'm kind of glad I wish
they would have made
I mean Charlie's still a little kid
I get it so she's kind of like the new Carl
so I hope that she becomes more of a badass
I'll forgive your blasphemy
I'll forgive your blast me on comparing her to Carl
but continue
even I said wait what
like yes I compared her last time to the Carl scene
where the Walker
that's what opened up the door
Yeah, but that was the, you have to admit, that that scene was very familiar to the scene where the Walker was walking up on Carl and Carl didn't kill the Walker.
Yes.
I definitely feel you, though.
I think that, I think that was one of the, that was, that might have been one of the scenes they just didn't scrap before they found out that every other actor and the walking day was leaving.
Right.
But it does seem like there's like all these different storylines that don't really fit at the moment.
And there's, and we, right.
Because they didn't, like the one with the box.
You know what I mean?
Like, we didn't hear anything about that.
I'm like, wait, what?
Like, what are we doing?
Yeah, I don't, I thought we're supposed to be leaving to Alexandria now.
So it's just not fitting.
No, it's not.
But whatever, right?
I know, I know.
And look, look, we've got, we've got, one, a couple of great lines from the show.
You know, I know I'm garbage, but I'm doing this from Charlie.
That was pretty good.
That was a good line.
I enjoyed that line.
But, you know, look, October 7th is the,
this season premiere of Walking Dead.
We can make it and so can you.
It's okay.
Is it going to be a back-to-back thing where it's the end of fear in the beginning of
dead?
I think,
yeah,
I think originally they weren't going to do that.
I think if I remember right,
the original plan was to,
they had promoted like there was going to be a,
you know,
the end of fear and then Walking Dead would start the next week or whatever.
But I think that then they changed it.
And I think it's going to be,
you know,
fear into dead. And I still
Makes sense. Yeah, it does. And
Chris Hardwick, my man,
I don't know that I talked about you last week
at all, but I'm glad to see you back.
I know you had other issues to deal with and you were cleared
from AMC and you're cleared for everybody else
except for a few of the wackos from the Me Too movement,
but it's okay. But I feel you, bro.
I feel you. I, every week,
every week when I see your promo
about talking dead and talking fear
after
we'll see you after preacher
I'm pissed right with you
I'm pissed right with you
that has got to be so frustrated
well I heard preacher's a pretty good show
but Preacher's good
but that's not my point
I know it's not your point and I understand
we're going to put you know make you watch another show
sit here and that just hurts him
that just hurts that show and that's the
I know they own all three of them so it
probably balances out money
wise, but it just, I'm with you, Chris. I understand.
It'll be back to normal, though, after, uh, like, better be.
I mean, like, doesn't it go, it goes straight after the walking dead, right?
Because there's nothing, there's not, there's not, no, yeah, they only did that, I think
once or twice, uh, with walking dead. Remember, they did that with, uh, with that fear to.
No, that was walking with the, with a preview of the new show. That was, yeah, the pirate show.
Yeah. Yeah. On the ice. They did the, they did the season, um, um,
they repeated, they played you the season premiere of the first episode
and then they repeated the first episode the next week or whatever,
something like that.
No, it was because the episode, yeah, but one thing,
I thought the episode personally was okay for some of it personally,
but there was one part where I was just like, really?
Which was a?
It was the scene in the basement.
Which one where they were looking like they were going to drown?
Yeah, where, uh,
it was when she, uh,
was banging the glass with the flashlight.
At first I was like, oh, okay, fine, they're trying to get out.
And then she pulled out the gun.
Then it clicked with me going, wait a minute.
You could just shoot the glass.
I said that aloud.
I was just like, you can shoot the glass.
It would be tough squeeze for Charlie to get through that.
Plus, it was, I went back.
I rewound it when they got out of the basement because they were saved by the falling Walker.
The walker that was like hooked on the...
That took me a while to figure out what the heck was going on.
I was because Charlie was like, he saved us.
I know.
I was like, wait, what?
He saved us?
What?
He saved us.
Remember, then I thought maybe we're going back to the...
Remember one of the early episodes with Morgan when his wife comes up to the door?
Remember she was a walker and his wife comes up to the door and the doorknob turns.
And you think that there's...
It made you think that there's still something in there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And then that went away fast.
Yeah.
Gone, goodbye.
Have a nice day.
So then I thought, he saved us.
Yeah, he wanted to save you.
He was so happy that you were the one that left him hanging on that tree limb.
Well, at first, she was planning on shooting herself from what was implied.
And then she was walking to the walker, prepared to get her face eaten off, and then Alicia pulled her back in.
And I bet you were thinking she shouldn't have done that and she should have just walked right in the locker.
Oh, you would have thought, I bet you.
were thinking that. Absolutely. Well, don't let her go. And then in the basement, you know,
I was at one point, I was, part of it was a good scene, though. At one point in the basement,
I'm like, okay, maybe they're both drowned. We'll be done with it. And I wouldn't have cared.
I just, that's my issue with this entire episode is I just don't care. You know what I mean? Like,
literally, they could have both drowned. And I'm like, okay, well, cool, two more of those awful,
like, casted characters are gone. And one of them's new. And one of them's new.
Yeah. Well, Charlie's fairly new. Yeah. Well, she's not the, she's, she's, she is,
part of the opening cast, right.
She's new, but she's still, like, I would, I would consider her, like, the B character,
some one of the B characters of the new cast, right?
But they want to make her A.
I mean, they want to make her A.
John kept her, even though she sits in a bus and looks out the front window at the
steering wheel for hours.
And then, uh, and then, you know, when she went away, we all jumped to, I had to go
her find her instead of, you know, let her go.
Yeah, I don't know. I'm still, I'm still not convinced she makes it through the season.
Like, I don't know.
I thought Morgan was going to come and save them.
I thought that was a great call.
I just thought because I'm looking for that final, like, she's like,
okay, fine, I'm going to follow this guy.
I'm looking for that little plot, like, you know, like.
Well, she did say she left Morgan alone.
Makes it to where they're going to have to go and follow him.
But I think the death of Charlie might be one of those.
Because now that would make Alicia want to leave.
That would also make John and what's your face one.
June and want to leave.
Strand.
about Strand and Luciana.
Yeah, I don't know.
Maybe even Luciana, because Luciana was like running out there looking for her, like,
she had a change of, like, where is Luciana?
They didn't even, like, touch on that.
Yeah.
They went in the mansion and no one was there.
Right.
But anyway, like, so her death would serve a lot of, you know, purpose to go.
To leave.
For the crossover.
Right.
That's what made me think that they, at least most of that episode, now that you mentioned
because at the end where she said she left, you know,
by them to fend for themselves and started feeling bad about leaving all the people out there by themselves,
they may have, when you think about scrapping that and changing the direction of the show,
you know, they may have added that at the end.
Right.
You know what I mean?
The rest of the episode had nothing to do with anyone else,
except the strengthening of Alicia's character and the strengthening of Charlie's character
and giving you a little backstory, which, again,
I'm okay with.
I get it.
Really, Charlie, as of today, Charlie's kind of growing on me.
She killed Nick, but, you know, I get it.
They were mad at her for that, but then you got to, you know, you get to move on, man.
Let's go.
This is the new world.
Yeah, I don't know if she's growing on me.
I guess she's, I don't know, a little bit more of just as she's before she was,
see, this is my issue with the writing on this show is like she kind of reminds me of Nick at
this point, like someone that was like very unlikable.
and now they're trying to change that
and maybe make her a little bit more likable.
Charlie?
Yeah.
Okay.
Nick was a bad analogy.
Through most or through all the episodes he was in in season four from what I saw
until he died.
But they had forced him in the previous seasons.
That's what, I mean, that's what we're talking about.
So then they forced him to change to where they wanted us to like him again.
Well, at that point, we already didn't care.
The season before where he was like getting wasted again on that weird walker.
There was chewing brain stems.
Yeah.
Like I'm like what are they doing here?
I know.
I like that's what I like see.
You want to try something, didn't it?
Yeah, that's the first thought I had.
And then of course there's a then of course there's the other scenes that happened in the episodes where they went to the bus and the bus was knocked over.
Yeah.
And they didn't check in the bus.
I mean, you would have thought that they would have at least checked in the bus.
Yeah, her, her, so Charlie was like, they might be alive.
And Alicia was like, no.
But we don't know that they are.
And I was like, wouldn't the next line out of Charlie's mouth going, exactly, we don't know.
So we have to go look.
I was like, what?
I was like, come on.
That's exactly why you go look.
There's no bodies here.
You go look to see if they're alive.
That was the stupidest line.
It just stopped.
What about the scene where Alicia gave, where Alicia gave Charlie her pipe,
her barrel
sword.
I got a little issue with that too.
I didn't even get that.
And then she took it back for something.
She took it back.
But yeah, that's their old self.
But
does that,
when she stabs through the
bottom of the jaw,
I would have thought
you had to go through the skull.
The above skull,
you know, the top half
of the skull to kill those walkers.
completely went through.
It was just like thump and you could see the top
of the thing sticking out. It's not that long.
I don't think it is. That's what I mean.
Nah. But it technically
could, I guess, kill him because you just have to hit the
what is it, the mandula, which is like right there
under your nose.
I have manure in my ear.
Ear? I said nose.
No, it's like, that's where they teach snipers to shoot.
It's like right underneath your nose right there
above your lip. Okay. Right. Okay.
So that's what I mean. Yeah. So that's the lower part of the skull
still gets there, right?
Right.
So it technically could work,
but it's not the way they had showed it
where it's like 12 feet out of their top of their head.
It never looks that long.
What about the scene with the pictures?
Charlie's just trying to, you know,
that's her family or friends or aunt and uncle or whatever,
the family that mom and dad that she saw in the beach.
What about when when...
What about the scene when Alicia was just tearing down all the pictures
and then threw them out and the...
Good.
It's fine.
She wanted to get rid of the beach.
people and get rid of all the memories and that's fine I'm okay with it fine that's her deal she
wants to get rid of all so anything that uh you know is old life that reminds uh you of family and
friends she's done with that I you know I get it that's that's fine and Charlie wants to hang
on to it because they're her family I get it but then as we're going back to the back to the mansion
it's I'm going to take you to the beach yeah I thought I thought she was literal at that point
I was like oh they're going to drive to the beach I was like whoa
what's going on here.
And then she's like, just close your eyes.
And I was like, oh, God, I've had, that's it.
I can't, no, I'm done.
I was like, please end.
I thought that was the end right there.
But then we had to endure another after the commercial break.
Shut up.
I can see my parents.
I can see them.
I can see that.
You know, see now what they didn't show in that episode is before they left to go to the mansion,
they ate some brain stems.
Yeah.
So you were actually, you were actually.
seeing the ocean.
Okay.
The plot point comes back around.
All right.
So we've got, you know, I don't know what more to say.
You know, look, it was frustrating.
But at the same time as I sit through it, you know, in my head again, I kind of, as much
as we complain about no backstory, they did give us a little bit of backstory and some
explanation on that.
I wish we would have done more to see some of the other characters.
What's going on in the storm?
Maybe we will next week.
Maybe we've got a couple of Phil Storm episodes, you know, before we get back to, because it'll take until the end of the season now before we all get back together and go back to Virginia, right?
Yeah.
To Virginia.
And that's just what it's going to take.
And you're right.
We do have to lose a couple more people for the rest of the gang to say, yeah, let's get out of here.
Yeah, something's got to change because at the moment no one is leaving.
No one has committed to going except for.
Or what's her name?
Al.
She's the only one that's committed.
So you've got to find some way
to get all these new characters to go with you.
And in my opinion, that's the death of Charlie.
Maybe I'm kind of hoping for that to happen.
But I mean, we got some tweets here.
We got some tweets here.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
There were plenty of tweets.
You know, last night, the reason I put that on there
is because last night I saw a bunch of people
who were in love with the episode.
Like I said the episode.
The actors?
Where is it then?
Yes.
Well, yes.
In fact, Alicia, Alicia actually tweeted tonight as a very special episode.
Because it featured only me.
It was one of the toughest working experiences, but what a journey.
Shut up.
And the actor who's Charlie is a power hose.
Shut up.
And Michael's home is brilliant.
We hope you enjoy our mini movie.
Oh, God.
Yeah.
Imagine that.
She'd be talking that up when she gets the most screen time of her entire career on this show.
I love you.
You look great.
Yes, I wanted you to take your top off in the bathroom at the house.
And I was a little upset on that.
You should have, that's, that's what your, should have come off.
It would have made, I mean, it would have made the whole show.
I'm just saying, tell me, tell me you didn't, tell me you weren't thinking that.
One of the hottest chicks in the show.
She was, she was, she was wet the entire episode.
I know.
That's what I'm saying.
There was no issue that had to have come off to dry.
So amazing how awful this episode was, if I didn't just like it for that.
purpose alone. You know what I mean? Like, I should have loved this episode. How do you screw that up?
That would have saved it for you. If she had taken the top off of the bathroom. Oh, yeah.
Just had the bra on. I'd be singing his praises right now. What a great episode.
Best bar, bar none, both walking and fear combined. But she, you know, look. And so, and I think
Alicia, anyway, where I was headed was, just remember in your mini movie, it's just TV.
show, baby.
I love you and everything, but this is the TV show.
And then I know I showed you a comment yesterday of a few people saying that fear was, in
their opinion, a better show than dead.
They've been saying that since what, three seasons ago?
I believe those are Russian trolls.
It's got to be.
I believe those.
They were saying this when they were doing cowboys and Indians back at the ranch.
I believe AMC has paid Russian trolls to.
infiltrate any social media
sites and say good things about
Robert Mueller if you're out there?
Seriously, start to look into this.
Yes.
To happen.
Absolutely.
100%.
No, we're stopping there.
We're stopping there because I want Robert
Mueller on this.
Yes.
I want a special attorney
and a special office set up
to investigate this.
And it has to be now.
Next week's episode is titled
The Code.
See you next week.
Thanks for being here.
You know,
