Welcome to it.
Season 4, episode 13,
titled Blackjack.
Jason Buttrill, Maximus Fisher,
along with myself, Jeff Fisher here on Talking Fear.
Before we even get to the open soundtrack,
will this season ever end?
Welcome to it.
I know, I know.
I shouldn't.
I've already started on a down note.
So let's pick it back up with a good note.
Jason.
Yeah.
Did you have any uplifting moments from episode 13?
Uplifting moments.
Anything that, you know, needs.
So I don't want to spend the entire talking fear ripping it.
Trying to be positive.
Maximus.
Is there any uplifting moments?
I don't want to spend the entire episode ripping it.
We got more John Dory.
Yeah, we did do that.
We did do that.
He's struggling to, you know, make his way with Strand, which is...
On the island, surrounded it, on the island, which is guarded by a crocodile or an alligator, whichever one.
So if I'm not going to rip it, that was actually kind of cool, right?
Watching it, watching an alligator takeout walkers there?
Which is actually, I mean, they got the perfect like moat and bodyguard if they just want to stay there for the rest of their lives.
That's true.
I mean, how has this not been tried before?
Like you just throw a bunch of alligators, you know, and put, you know, put like a self-contained, you know, house, you know, like an Alexandria house with solar panels and a little garden.
Dude, you're pretty good.
Not only does it keep walkers, that's going to keep people out.
As long as it, well, it keeps people out that don't have weapons, right?
Right.
Not bad.
No, it's not.
It's not a bad thought.
And then again, it is kind of hard to shoot a gator too.
And there's not a lot of gators in Virginia.
Right.
Right.
I mean, they would have had to travel south.
But still, minus sharks with freaking laser beams.
This is like the best security system ever in the post-pocalyptic world.
Right.
No question.
In the beginning, we had, so we had John trying to build a little bit.
the raft out of wood and Strand reading Moby Dick and making fun of him for making the
Raff.
Yeah, I know, Strand, you know, I think he's, I don't know what they were trying to, what kind of
what they're trying to do with this character, but I didn't like it.
A strand, yeah.
I think, I guess a couple things were kind of funny if they were trying to make it a
cartoonish kind of thing, but most of the time it came off as like him just being a dick.
Yeah.
What are you doing?
Yeah, he was a douche the entire.
entire time and still only were concerned about getting blitzed and drinking all the time.
Yeah, he did fine.
That wine.
But even still, if we're not completely ripping it, let's not rip it the entire time.
That scene was still pretty cool.
You know what I mean?
Getting on top of the truck and then, you know, the Walker in there and then it tumbling down and the walker's head got impaled with this.
That was good, right?
I mean, it was just the background story was stupid.
Yes.
Yes.
And then we go to the highway and Morgan.
And we see a handicapped guy with his, you know,
X-Man wheelchair.
That was good.
Yeah, yeah.
I like Wendell.
I got this.
I got this.
I bet your sister kills the walker.
You're like, that was my point.
I bet you they got that wheelchair from like Burning Man or something like that.
You know what I mean?
Because it's like a very mad max, like, or Burning Man, like, type, you know.
No, those are bad mother Burning Man.
Oh, yeah.
I'm checking that out.
I'm a big fan of Burning Man.
I bet, yeah, I bet.
I love Burning Man.
But it was really, I mean, that was kind of cool.
Now, again, I still go back to, I doubt that he would still be alive.
I mean, I'm not saying that handicapped people aren't handicapped.
But it is the end of times with Walker's killing, just streaming on people.
And you may be able to get away with that.
with the one walker coming at you.
But if there's more than one,
they're getting around that.
Maybe two. It says a thing.
They haven't really, like the herd, you know,
phenomenon.
No, we haven't.
It's kind of absent in this show.
The one I saw on the promo for next episode,
there was going to be a herd.
Oh, really?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, because they were crossing the road.
That's right.
With who?
With Morgan and his group?
Yep.
Because I mean, we had the herd in,
out in the, at the compound, right?
That's what killed the compound was the giant herd.
moving across the desert but this the herd the herd thing is like what really
makes it scary you know what I mean yeah like but anyone one is right that bad
but but but this show doesn't really play that up too much like I I get it it
it's probably more expensive to include that in there because you have to have
a ton of actor or what they called not stand yeah yeah extras ton of
extras but and also you know let's now we're faced with
after a big storm.
So, you know, the herds may have gotten broken up for a little bit.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Through there, in the area where they're at.
But they've never highlighted that on fear.
Except for that one, was it last half season or whatever.
Yeah.
That's the only time.
Yeah.
Really a lot of time.
We had a little bit of June and, and Al.
Yeah, they were back with the, you know, they were back with the semi and doing, you know, trying to do the right thing.
The main focus was the watcher face, saving the fat guy on fear.
Everybody makes fun.
I've wanted to be on fear for how long.
I wanted to be on walking dead for how long.
I really only walking dead.
But I've dropped my carrying so they can throw me on fear if they'd like.
But yeah, they had a...
Getting overweight people.
Hello me.
Hello me.
I could sit in a car and drink a beer.
So that was your one excuse was that you were fat.
And that's probably why they didn't have you on, but now you don't have that excuse anymore.
I like the way you said that.
You brought it up.
That's not the point.
They had Luciana help who we, they had Luciana who we found out was the original owner of that truck.
Huh?
What?
You didn't catch that?
Luciana found out that the guy she was helping was the original owner of the truck.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, I don't know that I knew that.
So that was the polar bear or whatever?
Yes, that he was polar bear.
Yeah, he revealed that at the end.
He said, I drive.
See, I was already so bored with that.
I was already gone.
Yeah, he was the one.
Yeah, he was the original one who Wendell and Sarah stole that truck from.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay.
And I apologize for not catching that because I was already like, okay, he's dead.
And she's struggling to find a beer for him.
She found a root beer.
I'd have been good.
He'd been good with that.
This is what I got for you.
You're dying in a car.
I can't help you.
I pull you out your dad.
here.
Take the root beer.
I hate to bash it, but that entire sequence, I was like, this is just stupid.
And on top of which, she was, you know, I get the whole, you know, did we need, did we need
that long a sequence of her struggling?
No.
That's what I'm getting out of fear is these long, tedious sequences of people struggling with
their stuff.
Yeah.
I got it.
Okay.
Well, the montage with John building the, building like the car boat was kind of neat.
Okay, but that was fine.
I'm okay with that.
That wasn't, you know, we said we spent more time with him building the, you know, the raft and him and he and Strand getting together and arguing.
But for the walk of struggle and trying to make, you know, help people or not help people.
And I don't want to kill people.
I want to kill people.
And Morgan, I know who you really are.
I know what you've done.
Oh, we forgot to mention, no, which lady?
We forgot to mention.
Well, we'll get to her.
I mean, it's just.
No, I feel you.
It's these long, tedious segments, and at the end, there's no payout, really.
They're very minimal.
And the, the payout is, oh, yeah, I've got to help people and we've got to try to survive.
Yeah.
And the John Doory thing, that was a very long segment to get to, basically what we thought was for them to get off the island.
And they got back on.
But they never got off.
It was long tedious sequences
Which actually but it was it was somewhat interesting
Because it was two interesting characters
Right absolutely
And like building out the raft
That was interesting
But then no payout
You can still have the alligator like
Almost get you but at the end of this story
See as a writer I noticed these things
As you know when you're building these things out
As I was about to
You know there's a there's you know man versus nature
Man versus Man Man Man
That was man versus man
Man versus Nature, as they teach you about in writing school.
But at the end of that, the protagonist...
I don't have to talk about your writing school.
But the protagonists at the end have to overcome that and achieve something, and they didn't.
That's the whole point, right?
That's why we're watching the show.
We want to pay out.
We got it.
It's not real.
How about this one?
It's okay.
You know, we got it.
Rick Grimes, who might have rolled around with the gator a little bit.
bit and swam underwater and then killed him.
Rick Grimes would have like,
but he would have been wearing alligator boots at the end of that episode.
And we all were to win, yeah.
That's right.
That's my boy.
Take it.
Thank you.
In real life, we know Rick's dead.
The final walk-off scene would have been his alligator skin boots.
Just walking off into the sunset.
tremendous.
It would have been great.
It would have been fantastic.
And we would have been cheering right now doing this.
Oh, and we forgot to mention.
whole crap.
John lost his hat.
And,
you know,
that'll show up again.
June will find it.
Yeah,
or witchy lady
will find it
and put it on a walker
with a note
and John will kill the walker
and take his hat back.
And the note
except the hat's floating
around in the lake.
Be careful.
Yeah, well,
everything ends up on
Route 10
or just north of you.
Just south of you.
Which lady just will find it
because apparently
she is everywhere,
knows everything,
has GPS tracking on everyone.
I have the GPS in the water.
Come on.
That was a little confusing when they were like, what does that van look like again?
And I was like, no, don't tell me.
And then we see the truck and then a pant and then there's the van right behind the truck.
Right.
And look, as much as we've talked about finding petroleum for these vehicles,
witchy lady is driving, you know, full bore.
Yeah.
Something that gets two miles to the gallon, maybe.
Well, they're bad.
She knows all and knows everything.
So I'm sure she knows where all the diesel is.
in South Texas.
And from the promo of next episode two,
we might get some of her backstory.
See, I don't know that I care.
I don't know that I really care.
Yeah, I don't either.
I think I want to,
Morgan needs to find a way to kill her and move on.
And we just get rid of her.
Yeah, like, I'm sorry.
Last week we were talking, last week we were complaining,
I was complaining about how it's just so ridiculous how, like,
she always she everyone just kind of shows up in the right place there's no time distance there's
nothing she was that was a perfect example this week but also we were like they don't have a good
we're saying we don't have a good villain and if they're trying to make her into the villain
I'm sorry but like some random like old lady running around with mud smeared out all of her
face which she's not with a group she's completely by herself she's not a good villain right
she's not like she doesn't control anything but but every so often she has a walker that she
that she saves as a slave, right?
Yeah, like, why should we be concerned?
Like, we shouldn't.
I don't care.
I'm like...
We're concerned now because she got Al's truck,
and for some reason she knows everything about it
and knows how to work every piece of weaponry on it.
I was thinking the same thing.
Yeah, then when she drove right next to the trailer,
and then she looks up and sees the lever,
I'm like, oh, my gosh, don't tell me she's going to pull the lever.
Dink!
Yeah.
I mean, it's just kind of strange.
And, you know, again,
When the, what's your face, the twin lady was joking with Morgan about, you know, going with him or not going with him.
I love that.
I have to admit, I love that seed when she was like, look, if you think about it, she pulls out her gun,
Morgan just goes bank with the shovel and then they're like, yep, we're going with you.
Well, did you, buddy.
I found that.
We still have not seen, and I don't want to be the one that, you know, continues on the handicapable scenes.
But we still haven't seen him getting out of the truck.
How do they do that so quick?
Get what out of the truck?
Mr. Handicapped, Mr.
Oh, you are hung up on that.
I still are.
You are hung up.
He's either in the road or he's in the truck.
You have got to be a system of getting his big butt in that truck.
And I have not seen it.
It's mounted to the side of the truck.
Maybe it's just like a, you know, like a wheelchair elevator that they've mounted to that.
I don't know.
I want to see it.
Now I'm intrigued as well.
Okay.
I want to see how he did it.
Because it happens so fast.
I'm okay.
You know, look.
I'll give you. Let's bypass the fact that I think he would already be dead in real life.
Just because there's no, I mean, we have, I realize that they all would be dead and it's the end of the world and we're all moving on. I got it.
But I want to believe that there will be some survivors and we're trying to rebuild the future.
And I just find it difficult to believe that at a time when people are coming back from the dead and killing other people who are not completely dead as humans yet, that people in wheelchairs would be.
able to survive that long.
Well, this Burning Man
wheelchair might be like a James Bond
like Ashton Martin.
And it kind of is, right?
Pushes a button, a little oil slit
comes out the back.
Right, it kind of is.
Shoots or something.
He has the mirror and then pulls out the pike.
Yeah, I mean, he's got the little Batmobile
wheelchair. I got it. So it's fine. I just want to
see him getting in and out of the semi.
You know what irritates me with this show is when they
so obviously try to
put these characters in the roles of the Walking Dead.
So they want like this character to be this character.
They want this character to be like this character.
You know what I mean?
Like they're not making them, you know, unique.
They just want to like kind of piggyback off the success.
And like, so the only character.
Think about the guy that, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, who is he on the walking dead?
Just think about him.
He's like an inventor.
He's supposed to be the, he's the only guy that can do this stuff.
He has to be protected by everybody else.
Eugene.
Exactly.
They're trying to make him into the Eugene.
And I just caught that yesterday.
Yeah.
When he was like, he's so helpless.
He can't defend himself.
He has to stand behind the guy in the wheelchair.
Well, no, he was going to, no, he was going to go walk around and actually killed the walker for him.
And then, and then Wendell was like, no, I got this.
But he's like the evil mad scientist.
Like, I'm like, oh, good gosh.
Okay, what about Wendell?
Come on.
What about Wendell and Sarah?
What do you think that are doing with them?
Wendell and Sarah?
I don't know.
I think they're like the forgotten people that aren't even to be around after the end of this season.
Yeah.
I mean, plus the last 12.
Al is her own character.
That's good.
She's not like piggybacking off of anyone else.
I don't really see Al as anyone else from the Walking Dead.
Who did I say last week was trying to be there trying to make her into Carol?
June.
June.
They're trying to make June into Carol.
I think they're trying to turn Alicia eventually into Rick.
Tried that with Madison.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, they're most definitely.
She showed back up at the end last night too right on the walkies.
We're just north of you.
We'll be right there.
everybody's got a walkie in this thing
crazy right
I know
Who do you think they're turning
Were they all left in the boxes for hell
I guess I don't know
I'm asking you
I don't know
The only person that doesn't have
That don't have walkies is
John and Strand
Right and they're the ones that need it
It's harder to find a walkie talkie in this day and age
So it is in the post-opazombie apocalypse
Well there was a bunch of them at that truck stop right
Is that one there was
They were in that charging station
Beats me
At the truck stop.
I think there was, yeah.
Yeah.
So how does everybody else have them, though?
Because they all got them.
That's a charging station, tough.
Yeah.
And then another thing that made me sad.
And we don't have to beat it up.
And we'll make this a quick episode because I'm looking forward to, you know, number 14,
which is going to be, you know, titled, what the heck is the title of 14 now?
I put it on here.
Oh, yeah, MM 54.
What?
Difficult decisions lead the group in uncertainty.
Alicia delivers on a promise to Charlie.
So when we end up at the beach?
We're going to end up at the beach down at, you know.
Really?
I guess.
What other promise was there?
I don't know.
You could be right.
I mean, well, if they are still in the Houston area, that's not far.
Right.
45 minutes away, something like that.
I mean, who knows?
But MM-54, I mean, okay.
Maybe we could know.
Instead of MM, it could be double M 54.
That's probably mile marker 54.
So I'm going to meet it 50.
Yeah, actually that makes a lot of sense.
And we'll see, you know, we'll see what happens.
I will say that the Walking Dead commercial,
the kaleidoscope commercial.
That was good.
They released that as a, I saw that like a week and a half ago or so.
They just been releasing new stuff for the new season.
but it wasn't what they released
didn't have Rick Grimes' final season on it.
At the end it said Rick Grimes' final episodes.
When the promo inside the show
makes you sadder and so,
I mean that whole, after that promo I was like,
oh.
And notice they could have said Rick Grimes' final season,
but they didn't.
Rick Grimes' final episodes.
Episodes, yeah.
Episodes, yeah.
I mean, so literally,
we could,
so that only promises at least two.
So we could, I mean, it's like every episode you're going to be thinking,
okay, is this the episode he buys it?
Is this the one?
It's going to be kind of nerve-wracking.
It is.
I would milk that too.
I would be like putting him in so many dangerous positions so they keep you guessing.
You know what I mean?
After about the third episode, you're like, all right.
We get it.
Yeah.
No, we don't want that.
We don't want to kill Rick.
That's the thing.
But remember, wait, he could move to fear, or he could be like, I'm heading to Texas.
Bye.
Yeah, no, he's not doing that.
I'm going to go look for Morgan.
I still have that theory.
They said he was leaving the walking dead.
They never said he was dying.
He could be moving to fear.
I'm sticking to that.
You stick to that theory.
I hope that happens.
I do too.
I hope that happens.
But there's no way.
I don't have to slim chance, but still.
I mean, look, the whole purpose of fear now is to get these characters together.
please dear Lord sometime bring these characters back together again maybe at mile marker 54 next week let's get them back together so that we can have some sort of cohesive movement yeah i mean you're right with the with the who they want to be the the criminal she's all by herself end it they're over with morgan put the shovel stick in her eye and be done with it yeah right but he doesn't kill now again but ah who cares he changes like the
wins. Yes. He doesn't kill now, but he kills when he has to.
When he was right, like, remember, he's basically gone normal.
You're going to like, you're going to like this.
When I was, he's not Uber Zen guy. He's not crazy assassin guy that's running off like a
heart. He's just like normal now, I guess. Sorry, Max, continue.
When he was writing the on the box, like the, the radio frequency on the walkie-talkies
channel, you know, it's, he stopped for a second. He's like, hey, can I write something on that?
And they wrote the channel. You know what? I.
thought he was going to write.
I knew it wasn't going to happen, but I just went in my mind anyway.
He gets down, writes, clear, done.
I thought he was going to say, Rick, if you see this, help.
All right, thanks for listening to Talking Fear.
We'll see you next weekend.
Really, I'm serious.
Stay positive.
Stay positive.
That's all I'm asking.
I know it's hard.
