Season 4, Episode 4, Fear of the Walking Dead, titled Buried.
This is Jeff Fisher, along with Brad Stags, Jason Butchrell, and Maximus Fisher.
And you know what that means.
This is talking fear.
Okay, this week was, it had some enjoyable parts, and then it had some agonizing parts,
and then, you know what, I think that covers the whole series.
Madison's dead.
You think so?
Yes.
She's dead.
But how do you, I mean, we're not even close to seeing how she died.
Oh, she died from a douchebag there in the parking lot.
The vulture?
Yes.
The leader of the vultures.
Either him or the guy that.
It had to have been the circus boy, right?
That's why, I mean, that's why we were predicting.
That's why Nick was so mad at him.
But again, it's pointless that she's dead because Nick's dead too, and yet he was in the episode last night as well.
Yeah.
So now being dead on that show doesn't mean anything.
It's just going to be a flashback.
Well, the whole season is flashbacks.
Right.
The entire season, I didn't see, I didn't think that was going to happen.
That's like the worst thing they could have done in my opinion.
Yeah.
I mean, we have all these new characters, show them.
We don't want to see the old characters.
Right.
Well, and that's what we're kind of doing, right?
We're, we brought in the nurse lady who apparently is connected to John Dory.
So is that his wife?
And then, I don't know.
I don't think it's his wife.
He said he met her and then.
He took her in or something.
Yeah, that he said he never knew her real name, which apparently Naomi, but he called her Laura.
It looked like he took her in because if the episode, the preview for next week is going to be an entire flashback of his life.
Which I'm honestly.
Another flashback.
No, I want that one.
I know.
Max has given me a hard time because you want to know their characters and you want to get to know them.
And then you're going to be mad because they're having a flashback.
He's right.
I agree with Max.
Yeah, I do too.
That's going to be a good.
I might be the best one we've had so far.
So, I mean, Max is right there.
Is that, you know, that, yes, we need to get to know them.
Yes, we need a backstory.
But it just, I hope it's not the whole episode.
Does I mention Madison's dead?
The whole episode is going to be that and flashback back to the, or it's going to be her coming back to the stadium, right?
And then her with Dory being sick and rehabbing.
The nurse.
Yeah.
Naomi.
Laura.
Yeah.
Laura Naomi.
Yes.
Laura and Naomi.
Okay.
I will say there were a couple of fun parts.
You know, I mean, the water park was fun kind of.
With, yes.
That was cool.
With the saggers.
Yeah, the saggers.
Yeah.
I love that.
Yeah.
That would, that will, okay.
That would be nasty to sell them in the water.
Oh, yeah.
That was a really dope scene.
It was the one with the toilet bowl thing.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Good idea.
And we find out where Alicia got her little knife thing.
It was a gun barrel that she sharpened.
Yeah, that was the most idiotic thing.
There was a time when I was screaming at the TV.
I was like, you ruined a 50 caliber machine gun.
Like, for that to make a dagger.
What the hell is wrong with you?
You got to do what you got to do.
If they couldn't find ammo for the machine gun, it's a paperweight.
But there was ammo for the machine gun.
Well, it wasn't her fault.
She just reached for the first thing to grab.
She was trying to save her.
Yeah. Did you see the episode? Yeah. She means she was going down the tube and then she
literally shoots. I mean that's the same thing that on walking dead. Remember there was a whole
episode of them trying to get their hands on that on that machine. And then Darrell would
completely change the fight. Well the 50 Cal completely changes the fight right. You get that of course.
You can take out the vultures in like five minutes and we saw that's what happened with the
kingdom. Negan right when when they brought in when the kingdom was coming. Yeah. And he wiped them out.
But so far, how many vultures have we seen?
Not a lot.
No.
Edits that are leader.
He's cooking hot dogs with men.
Weenie?
He's cooking weanies.
No, they're good.
When he's cooking weanies out there, which was just tremendous.
There's people walking in the background, which I thought.
Ten?
I mean, we haven't seen very many.
Okay, so there's 10 of them in the parking lot.
Let's say there's 20 in the parking lot.
Oh, we also, the little girl.
21.
Okay, 21.
You can pretty much
take them all out
with three good snipers
from the diamond.
And we've talked about that last week
where it was strange
that they just didn't shoot them
in the beginning.
Why don't you just...
Circus boys riding his bike around
but a bullet in his head.
Yes.
Well, they didn't really cause anyone harm.
They're out...
They're being menaces.
Yes, they're being menaces and they're
tailgating in my parking lot,
yeah.
And actually they are doing harm
because they're going out
and they're picking food off.
before, which is doing harm.
They're trying to blockade them.
Yeah.
It's intimidation and you just, you know, shoot them.
And they've already, and on top of which, okay, so let's say, I let's say, all right, I got you that we, you're right, we shouldn't have shot them in the beginning because we didn't know what the deal was and, you know, they were just showing up.
But we've already extended our hand to have them welcome and they've turned us down.
Right.
Okay.
And they've told you what they're.
intentions are that we're going to outlast you and take what is yours after you're dead so we're
not going to kill you we're just going to wait well the but but in that case yes kill them yes
it's a different world and the fact that he was talking about remember he was talking about the guy
burning to death the people burning and he's sitting there you could hear the hamburger sizzling on
the grill well it was interesting hearing but yes have you had some hamburgers on there too have you
have you guys any guns or firearms with them on them no I have yeah no yeah but
remember at least Madison she carries a pistol on her the vultures actually other than the little
girl shooting nick she has the yeah she's the home with a gun right no so i don't get this i'm sorry
this is the stupidest plot line ever i mean i like the premise and the general idea of the vultures
i like it but their leader is a is not intimidating whatsoever no he's definitely not
nighan he's creepy yeah he's just creepy from a but he's not even
really creepy enough.
He's not creepy at all.
Yeah, he's not creepy enough.
There's something about him.
I'll give you that.
Yeah.
If Simon was out there, if Simon was the head of the vultures sitting in the parking lot,
he would be creepy enough.
You don't think so?
I don't know.
Simon's a different character for that.
Simon's not waiting around the parking lot.
Well, that's true.
Simon would be go and kill all of them, then take all their stuff.
Well, I tell you what, we're going to sit out here for about two hours.
Yeah.
But this guy literally looks like.
Never gonna tell you.
This guy looks like if Forever 21 sold men's clothing.
Maybe they do enough.
Like he went and shopped and gets his clothing there.
His jacket was okay.
I have to admit, his jacket was okay.
I know, but you're a metro.
That's clear.
Out of this group, you're the metro.
Yeah.
Yeah, Max.
It's okay.
It's not a bad thing.
No judgment, but you know.
You are.
That's fact.
It's okay.
But he just doesn't, there isn't enough.
I don't know what it is.
It just isn't, I was hoping that his story last night about leaving the ranch or wherever the heck he was at would have been a little bit.
If he would have said, no, I didn't tell them the fire was coming because I wanted to just watch them burn and we did.
And then we left.
That would have been creepy.
Right.
But no.
But no, otherwise it's just.
It almost gives you compassion for him by the way he explained it.
Look.
in that scene when he's telling that story,
I'm not a writer.
Jason,
you as a writer.
That's true.
How would you as a writer
went through that?
Yeah.
Well,
oh, thank you.
Wow.
Did you just touch him?
A nice jacket.
I did.
That's a really nice.
Just use an excuse.
I want to touch it again for it.
Wow.
It looks soft from here.
You can quote me on that too.
Wow.
No, seriously.
I mean, it just seemed like it was,
we were going to make him
kind of scary.
We want to make him seem like a scary guy, but not really.
I don't get it.
Have we decided that Scott Gimple is in charge?
These are the shows that he did?
As far as I know.
He's trying.
That's so weird.
He's trying.
Because the first episode was good.
That's because it was totally different characters.
None of the old characters were in it.
Highlight was on.
Exactly.
breaks get hit every time
any of the original characters are in it.
It's like a slow burn tease
where they just barely show the new characters.
Just as a tease.
They'll like say,
this is what's coming.
Well, hey, next episode
is probably going to be all new characters
showing John and
and Naomi.
Which is fine.
That would be interesting, yes.
But Strand and the other dude
who does not come off as gay at all.
He's not.
I don't think he is.
Oh, I thought he was.
No.
I thought he was too.
No, no, no.
I don't think he is.
No, yeah, they were teasing him because she said, at that one time, she said,
yeah, she teased him like, you know, I don't think that's why.
Maybe I, you know, and he frowned at that.
Oh, who did?
The other guy?
Yeah.
Oh, I thought he was.
And then there was the.
That conversation, they had that little cactus factory or whatever that was.
Yeah, I mean, when they got, I like the Haywalkers.
Yes, it was for him.
and it was last night too for Strand
because he was about ready to throw him in the back of the SUV
and I got it
he was like
but when what's her face was talking to him
over the microphone over the walkie talkies
she had said something like I do I have to play this up
you want to get to know and he was
he mentioned something like he was being nice
or extra nice and she was like that's not
he's being nice to me and he frowned upon that
okay but I got
He didn't want to have anything to do with that.
Huh.
Well, but then what Strand go up and say, you wanted to get to know me better, this is me?
Because Strand still tried to hit on it.
Okay.
Strand still wants a little business.
No, see, I took it the opposite way.
The other guy wants, he's trying to hit it.
Yeah, and Strand is like, yeah, he doesn't want to be emotionally attached.
Right, exactly.
That's what I'm getting.
Why are you?
Yeah, you're not.
Man, you are not cluing into that.
This is Bob Part 2.
Part two.
You're a gay agenda down my throat.
This is Bob Part 2.
Wow.
I mean, it's okay.
Moving on.
Strand is just so much taller than the other dude.
It just...
Wouldn't.
It wouldn't.
It's just moving on the...
I don't know.
But in times of peril.
That hate any port in a storm?
Perhaps.
The Haywalkers scene was cool.
Oh, look at Max trying to change.
I'm...
That's what I...
I just said, let's change the subject.
Max is so uncomfortable right now.
He really is.
That's a metro.
Any port in a storm, Max, any port.
And I mean any port.
Anyway.
How about that librarian Walker?
I was asking you.
Oh, who thought John Denver when that guy stood up?
That's the first thing I thought is John Denver, yes, and the hair.
And then the guy from the twilight, Burgess Meredith.
That's the other thing I thought of.
from the last man on earth.
Oh, yeah.
Who was Burgess?
In Twilight Zone, remember he was the guy.
Who was so happy.
Who doesn't know who Burgess Meredith's this?
Do you know which episode I'm referring to in the Twilight Zone?
I haven't seen Twilight Zone.
You're thinking about Burgess Maritz as the library.
In the Twilight Zone, yes, in the Twilight Zone, he was the last man on Earth,
and then he broke his glasses.
He was so happy that he was going to be able to spend the rest of eternity reading,
and then his glasses broke,
which is what happened to that guy
because his glasses were broken on the floor
so he couldn't read.
That's why he slid his wrist.
Where were you on the texting conversation last day?
This would have been really good.
Yeah, I was asleep.
Frican no show.
Listen to me.
One of the things that I started to do
that I tried to make part of this broadcast
was our group text during the show.
Listen to me, I'm half dead.
It takes so much of your voice to text.
You know, like.
Right?
And I believe that I was actually pretty
close to
being correct when
when Jason
asked me, hey, where is
Brad? And I
text him back saying, I think he took
his night meds. Yes, you were right, because I did take some,
yeah. And I
think I was just out
because I read it all this morning. One of our favorite parts
and we can go through our group text, but we're pretty much
hitting all the strong points was the
was the car scene
where
I know so much about cars
Oh yeah
That was after yeah
I'm gonna see
These things hold a lot of gas
How do you know so much about
What was that?
Talking about
She literally said
This thing holds a lot of gas
And the tires aren't flat
And then she kicks the tire
I thought
And then Alicia's like whoa
Well she was also talking a little bit
About the radio system in it too
What has a tape?
It has a taped
I thought she said it can run on flat tires.
Oh, whatever.
Is that what she said?
Did she say it doesn't have flat tires?
It was either it can run on flat tires or it doesn't have flat tires.
But then I was thinking it doesn't make any sense that it can run on flat tires.
And again, half the time when she talks, I just hadn't you half listen to it.
It was so funny.
How do you know so much about cars?
I was like, I don't know.
Perhaps maybe, I don't know, not spend.
a year on a yacht running away from walkers.
Right? Yeah, exactly.
You know, because look.
And she said she used to be a nurse, so.
It does make you miss the yacht days.
Yes, it does.
Remember when we used to think that, oh, this is going to be great because they're on a boat?
Things are going to be different in this show because they're on a boat.
There were so much that could have taken a, with that.
I'm on a boat.
Island, all the boats, all the water world criminals.
and we hit ground in San Diego.
Yep.
Yep.
I'm sorry.
I thought it jumped the shark
when they got on the boat personally.
Really?
Yeah.
I was like, yeah,
because the whole point,
again, we've said this before,
but was to do it in the city.
And then we instantly said,
oh, they obviously don't have the budget.
They can't do it.
Well, and also,
we'd already bypassed the beginning
by the time we got to the yacht.
Because they were up at Strand's house
or his rich.
buddy's house.
Right?
I mean, they had already...
Yeah, they were already...
It wasn't his house, it wasn't his boat.
Right.
The guy's a con man from the word go.
I love him.
Yeah, I mean, he is a likable character for some reason.
I love him.
Even though he goes for guys who are a lot shorter than him.
So the...
The entire point of this episode was really just to show that they all wanted to leave.
Yeah.
Because Al was video taped than them.
I guess, you know, she did video.
Some people when the truck wasn't running, but I guess that's where she gets her battery juice from is when the truck's running.
So they're setting up some humongous, like, catastrophe.
Because there was also, like, them talking about how Nick and Lucy shouldn't have grabbed that map book and turned to that specific page.
Which I still didn't understand.
Okay, I thought that that was, that flashback, I thought that was prior to them even going to Texas.
I thought that was them going, okay, we're going to Texas.
They were in, and they were in the stadium.
They found a map in the library.
And where were they, where was it that they were planned to go?
I mean, the whole, after all of that, we're going to go to this.
And here's our plan.
We're going to go farther out.
Right.
Places that the vultures haven't gone to yet.
That's genius.
That is, yes.
That is genius.
And you couldn't have thought of that without that book in the Southwest United States.
Yeah.
I was like, way, that whole scene was to.
set up that line,
we're going to go to places
that haven't been picked over yet. But Nick,
we can't go out that far on one tree.
No, no, couldn't possibly do that
because we came all the way here from California.
I thought it was Mexico.
Mexico. No, they started in L.A.
Yeah. And then they went to an island.
Yeah. Then they went out in the ocean.
Then they got bombed in San Diego.
Then they went to Mexico.
Right. Then they're back to Texas.
Then they came in from Mexico
into the U.S. Right.
And then they went to
Texas.
And then next season, they're in Russia.
It wouldn't surprise me.
It wouldn't surprise me at all.
They need a yacht.
I don't get, but what I don't understand is that they're setting up some big catastrophe.
Yes, they are.
I don't even want to go through all the stupid, like, stories.
Let's get to it.
The point is that they all wanted to leave, and they're all, like, hinting that something bad happened.
Right.
So let's go.
Let's get to it.
So we're not going to be.
Madison's dead.
When are, when do we get the number three?
Why do we get the the catastrophe mid-season finale?
Maybe.
So the catastrophe is the vultures.
The vultures might be dead too.
Wow.
But things aren't that.
Edith was still alive.
No, no, no.
Circus boy was still alive.
Things aren't that bad, though.
I don't understand why they're acting like it's that bad.
I don't either.
They've got a huge complex with walls.
That's more than anybody else could hope for in this world.
Yeah, that's what everybody keeps saying.
But it's not going to last.
Yeah, they're eating cow feed.
Right, but I mean.
Okay, so why wouldn't the baseball diamond last?
But they're not getting their skulls bashed in with baseball bats.
Right.
You know what I mean?
Like things can't get worse in this world.
Yeah.
I don't understand what it is about the compound there at the diamond that won't last.
What, okay, what is so?
The food?
You're going to have the food problem anywhere you go.
Right.
So what is it that won't last?
When you walk out into the parking lot and Metro is cooking.
Hot dogs, you put a bullet in his head and eat the hot dogs.
Right.
So I'm, I don't know.
That's what I keep thinking there's something I'm missing, but then I'm like, but probably not.
Right.
Because it doesn't seem like we are.
I'm not quite sure what that, what that would be.
So what about Morgan and John?
Yeah, I mean, look, he got lucky right.
He found the other gun.
Yes.
Which is good, which is good for him.
But he's all, you know, all upset about her, which is why we're going to get the
flashback next week. Hopefully it's
the whole episode. I hope they'll make it an extra
long one. Look, I just want to know
his backstory. I mean, he said, funny.
As soon as he said he was a police officer,
I was just like, really.
He doesn't seem like a cop. But the backstory
that we're going to get is not that.
I know, the backstory we're going to get is him
and Laura slash Miami.
We're already, the bad, the Walker
world has already happened. You know what?
What if he, as a cop,
gets into a gunfight
with an outlaw and then
ends up in the hospital and then he wakes up after right yeah wow that wouldn't that be something
that very original i'd never would have thought of something and he probably has a kid named
Kevin Kevin and Kevin is you know he's a young kid uh and but he likes to wear his hat we can have that
that be their kind of connection wow he and Kevin right that's true they have to because they
They were in Laredo.
They were in Laredo.
They have to get out of Laredo.
Kevin.
But he has to say his name funny.
Right.
Corlvin.
Curlvin.
Yes.
That would be the way of now.
If they do that, I'm in.
I'm in.
No, you have to do the cowboy accent with it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So I.
So, so, Sherry was it?
No, Shania.
What's her name?
Laura is the other.
the nurse what's her name Naomi Naomi Sherry whatever so Naomi and Laura are the same person
yes but that's not his wife doesn't look like it I don't think so now we haven't sat through the
entire flashback episode yet Brad so that happens next week okay but it didn't appear to be on the
promo okay here that he was it was already after the you know the disease it started running rampant
He was living on a ranch, it looked like.
Yeah, okay.
And she appeared, hurt.
All right.
All right.
So the guns that they dug up.
Makes us more sense to anything else.
Oh, yeah.
Right.
Were they buried Dingleberry?
That was supposed to.
So they're going in pursuit to go like wipe these vultures out.
Right.
The lurchers are still alive, right?
Because they're still, they're trying.
So the massacre.
The massacre that they're talking about, the vultures survived.
I guess.
And then they went off to their home base or something like that.
I don't know.
As vultures, would you have a home base?
Well, you have a nass, don't you?
A tree or something?
I guess.
So of the 20 that are in the parking lot, only a couple.
I don't think vultures actually have.
That's a good point.
I was thinking, I've seen vultures in zoos and stuff, but, I mean, that's their, they're stuck in a cage, right?
But the vultures in real life, they don't really have a place to hang out.
No.
They fly around and look for dead things, right?
Yeah.
So they're going to go and hunt down the vultures and kill the rest of them.
Right.
I mean, it was cool seeing them dig up that box.
Who buried the thing those guns to begin with?
Yeah, I was curious about that too.
Like, yeah, I don't know.
Maybe that's, they did that when they knew when things were getting dire and they knew that everything was about to come down.
I don't know.
They're alluding that, again, they're alluding to some catastrophe and that the vultures then left.
Right.
So maybe they're the last one.
left alive.
I don't know.
We're all prepared for it.
They buried weapons.
I mean,
wait a catastrophe bigger
than the dead
rising up and trying to eat them.
I mean, they,
I mean, they,
great.
Right, yeah.
Big catastrophe.
And then after that scene,
that's what I was trying to say.
They did bury neck.
In the hole that was already dug.
No, they didn't.
No, they didn't.
Oh, yeah, they put them back
out of the tree.
That's right.
Morgan made them put it up.
out of the tree because he liked growing things.
Okay, I heard that line, but I didn't quite understand it.
That was a dead tree.
No, wasn't?
It sure looked dead.
Half of it was, like, gone.
No, it wasn't.
Did you not see that at the end?
The shot half the tree was, had fallen off.
No, it had.
It was an origami tree or whatever those trees are.
Bonsai?
Yeah.
They're like six inches tall.
Origami.
Same thing.
Like, full-knit was a same thing.
I don't know if it was dead.
It didn't have it.
It didn't have any leaves, but the thing was fully grown.
You're not funny.
Stop it.
Oh.
So.
We're going to die.
Brad's coming in there and assault diseases.
That tree was a dead tree.
It didn't have any leaves, but it didn't have any.
Okay.
makes it in dead tree.
Let's winter time.
But maybe that's what Morgan was saying.
He likes growing things.
Maybe we bury him and the tree comes back to the line.
I don't know.
Okay.
That makes as much sense.
All right.
So we'll see what happens to Morgan and John, right?
I mean, they're left alone now after.
Elle's going to come back for them, though.
I would think so, yeah.
I mean, because John just wants to be left alone, and so does Morgan.
So the two of them wanting to be left alone are going to be left alone.
They're going to be together.
Right.
They could be independent.
Right.
They're just going to be quietly walking.
I believe that's a quote from the classic Rudolph the red nose reindeer.
Independently together?
We can be independent.
Together.
And speaking of being independent, this is talking fear.
And are we done with this today?
I think so.
I honestly believe what you just heard on this podcast.
More entertaining.
A thousand times more entertaining.
Yes.
And then the episode that you either watched or didn't.
And I would say after listening to this, if you haven't watched it,
there's no need.
We'll see you next week.
Thanks for listening.
