Season 8, episode 14 of the Walking Dead title, Still Gotta Mean Something. It is the usual cast of experts for this week's episode, and yes, I do use that tone loosely. Brad Staggs, Jason Butchrell, Maximus Fisher, and myself, Jeff Fisher together again for hours and your, of course, weekly, Talking Walking Dead. I'm going to, we're going to, I'm going to, we have a whole new segment

that we're going to give you in this episode this week as well, which as we were going through it last night, I started laughing, and I figured we have to share it with you. So during the live broadcast of Walking Dead, Brad and myself and Jason group text. And there's some classic texts involved in that throughout the show. So I'm going to be sharing that timeline with you.

You got a mean something. Oh, still got it means something. Oh. So, right there. Oh, right there. Yeah. Still got a means. No, I don't, as a matter of fact.

So still got to me. You've got your makeup on ready for the commercial. I do. I'm not wearing glasses, but I am wearing makeup. So we're good. This show is not just called the. You know, it's right. There's a couple other words after that.

Welcome to the. Let me rephrase the question. What is still going to mean? something to me. Right, your word, right? Right. Your word. And look, remember the last time he said, talk that guy into a giving up when his words

got to mean something and Darrell shot him in the head? That's right. Remember outside of the building? He said, you're a guy, man's words got to still mean something in today's world, right? And he was like, well, yeah, Darrell in the head. Yeah. Yeah. He's, uh, how do you trust Rick anymore?

Murder Rick is back. Murder Rick is back. on the jacket, you put on the jacket, you could see the beard coming back, murder, Rick is back. I know, it felt good. I did. I'm loving it. I was getting scared, though. I thought he was going to read the note and get all whistified on us again. But his word is nothing now.

It's, it's, it's nothing. It is. I agree with you. He didn't believe it because he missed the part where he said I lied. I lied. He missed that part. He said, I lied. I went back and watched the entire episode a second time last night, Mr. So, thank you.

Kill your attitude. Do you not have chores to do or something? You have to watch it twice. There's going to be more to do, I'll tell you that. Now, yes, Rick said he lied. Yes. But I don't think that he really did. And even if he did, he knew he was going to lie to begin with.

You knew it was a lie to begin with. So if you know it's a lie, it's not a lie. That's not how it works. That's my justification for a lie. You know it's a lie. So the lies when he was walking away. Was that what it was? Like, no.

What did I actually say? The lies said you can all come back to Hilltop. You can be part of our, we can start over, something, something to that effect. You can be part of us. We can, you know, and then. And then he killed them all. And then he killed them all with Morgan.

Because that was the plan to begin with to kill them all. Right. But then he said, you can come back. So was that just a lie to get untied? Exactly. Yes. Exactly. He said that as walkers are coming through the door.

To save their life. No, that was before. But he knew that the herd was coming. I mean, he was tied up. and he remembered a homeboy who I still don't trust back at Hilltop from the Saviors who asked him who asked him to give mercy to his people that we all wanted Jared to die and he did I know that was nice very satisfied look look I couldn't Morgan told the truth I came here to kill you all and that's what I intend to do yeah and then and Rick lied

it'll be a shame because I won't be able to kill you that and then what a great They say that's one way to do it, but you can't actually say that and expect to get untied. You know, you got to get untied, didn't he? Because of Rick. Only after Rick. Yeah. L lied. Oh, yeah, I heard he said that.

And Jared was the old. What's your deal? You're going to pissing me. No, no. What's your deal with Rick Grimes? Can't trust him now. I'm getting kind of pissed off, too. Can't trust him.

You mean, you can't. He's right. He's fighting for us. He's not fighting. Who cares that he lied to the Savior? Of course he lied to them. Screw them. All right.

But a man's word is his word. By the way, checks in the mail. That check I owed you. We never got it, check. I lied. And then and then while they were tied up

and him saying, Jared was pretty much the only one skeptical, which honestly, that's the only time I was like, I kind of agree with you. I still hate you, but I kind of agree with you.

Correct. Yeah, he knew. He knew that he was just yapping to get on time. So when all this went down, this was in the past, this was in the last, what, 15 minutes of the show,

something like that? Yeah, Which seemed like a long episode, by the way. It seemed like a long episode because the first 40 minutes were nothing. That's why we got, I didn't know it was going to be a longer episode. So by the time it was 8.30, I was like, have we really gotten 30 minutes almost halfway through this show? What's happened? Nothing.

I didn't, nothing, right? And then we had, and we had Rick and Michone for a little bit. I love you. Well, that was before. I mean, before and after. But the before where she took the jacket and wanted him to read the love. letter before he went out to see if he'd have read the letter before he went out he wouldn't have yeah i even i was a little even i was a little upset that she took the murder jacket

that's what i like calling it michaud does not play a good housewife that is what and that's the role they've thrust her into and it's just not it doesn't i do not get that relationship and i know that we've got one this before on this episode but i are on the show but we're going to cover it again on this episode because where most of the every time I can't they don't it doesn't work for me

I don't I don't feel any kind of emotion for those two together and then during while they were together last night I see on the hashtag the Walking Dead

I love it with Rick and Micho are together how can you actually I've seen I know most of the most of the fandom for the show actually really likes

those two together makes no sense Now, yes, I don't have a hatred for it like you do, although I have to admit sometimes it is a little force, and I, and Andrea and Rick, together in the comic, makes sense. Felt more realistic in the comics. And Rick and what's her face, too, the other girl back in Ellen. Oh, yeah. You wanted her to be with Rick. Yeah, she was right.

See, Rick should have killed live, killed all her kids. What scares me is it just, it's so like, it's such a deviation from like the actual canon of the show, like from the comic books. It's such a deviation from it. That's why I think it doesn't fit. Like, their writers tried to force this in. And they knew it didn't work, but they tried to force it in. They tried to change the characters to make the relationship work. Why do you hate interracial relationships so much?

See, that's not the bad. And that's not the case. That's the problem right there is if you say something bad. That's what you walk into. You walk into that. Oh, you just don't like it. Because what's wrong with that? I'm okay with, you know.

But pretty much. King and Carol sitting in a tree, K-I-S-I-N-G. There's only one thing that the show writers have forced in that has worked, in my opinion, and that's Darrell. Darrell has definitely worked. Every other thing hasn't really worked. And look what they're doing now. They're radically changing things to go away from the comics. I mean, sometimes going away from the source material is a good thing.

But not in this case. There are two alphas is the problem. Michone and Rick are both alphas. And they just don't. It doesn't work. agreed 100%. So and then we have... Is Mishon this cry in the comics at this point?

She was for a little bit around when she left, but we haven't seen her for a little while, but recently, of course, she has been her, but she actually ran into her daughter into the commonwealth in the commonwealth. Yeah, so she kind of had to be crying during that scene because she met up with her daughter she hadn't seen in years. Right.

But she's like, remember from the first time we saw Michone. You know, she was like this like angel of death type thing. Like crazy. She's got the slaves. Yeah, like that's who she is. You can't say slaves. Now you're changing it. She had slaves.

You can't say slaves. I did. You can't say it. I just did. But you can't. And then there's, of course. Then there's the whole Carol with Henry situation. Carol Morgan and.

them searching for Henry. Well, this whole episode, right? It was at the end. We're going to, we end with Rick reading the letter, and hopefully what they want us to believe is that he's going to turn into the new Rick again. Right. Right. He's going to go back to being, can't we all just get along and survive with the new Rick?

And Morgan's just going to go away and become Bob. Can we? Yes, can we figure this? I think it's going to be. Let me, okay. The timeline makes no sense. He started using his stick. I hadn't learned how to use the stick if he goes back in time.

We're doing the time jump. I think it's going to be a time jump, honestly. It's going forward. Yeah, fear is going forward. I think fear's going to catch up with the main timeline. Yeah, because Morgan goes away and catches up. Have you not seen the previews? Yeah, but that's what confused me of it.

No. When am I sober? That explains it. I mean, that was a stupid question. I know, I apologize. And then we have, then we have Vision, Henry. going, you know what it is? Oh, yeah. Well, that's just Morgan having his visions.

But the jump for fear is, fear is moving forward. Okay. Which is going to be agonizing. And by the way, we're going to do a couple, speaking of that, in a couple of weeks, we have the season finale of Walking Dead and the season premiere of fear. And we're all going to be going to the theater. They're putting it in theaters for that night. We're all going to be going there to watch it together.

Morgan is, where they're just, all the whole thing is just setting up Morgan to go away, which is just agonizing to me. Did he go away? I thought that was him going away last night when he walked toward the herd, then he showed back up again. No, because Rick ran into him.

Right. He was going away. By the way. That's my point, right? The whole, all of this now is just based around him going away. And how? Because he's got to go to fear. The world knows he's going to fear to become Bob.

Right. And unless they time jump. which they have to because he knows how to use the stick already which he wouldn't have known if he went back in time to the he's not letting that I didn't let go of it either

I did it I was I'm with you on that I'm with you on that it just bugged me and the fact that Rick and Morgan are standing there in the forest having a discussion and get jumped by 18 saviors and didn't hear them coming up

yeah so out of nowhere well let's let's discuss a couple things that happened last night that were just out of nowhere. All right. Like what helicopter? No, we're right. No, can we start talking about that then? Rick, Negan and Jadis, I thought those scenes were great.

That's just me. I thought those scenes were great. Okay, but then all of a sudden. There's so much wrong with them. Right. I mean, Negan just all of a sudden he rolls the undercar buggy over three feet. With his hands strapped down. And he has a gun and a torch.

and he's looked at pictures. I didn't even know where that stuff came from. There was a double bag right by the fire pit. You did not see that. He's an idiot for leaving it there. But it didn't show him getting it or anything. And I never even noticed it was there. It was like all of a sudden he had all of stuff.

I was like, did he just pull these out of his rear or something? I was like, no, that was a double bag right by the fire pit. You could see it. Why was you that stupid then? But they didn't show him getting it. No, they didn't. They didn't show him getting it. It was like he was shuffling along, rolling along, and then, oh, there's Jadis, and Jadis turns,

and oh, now he's got a gun, he's got a tour, he's got the flare. And he's been, he's gone through pictures. Yeah. And his hands are, how did he get his hands untied up? He's gone through pictures, and he's still tied up? It was amazing. He untied his hands, but not the rest of him. Yeah, that's that, you don't want to do that.

That's just dumb. So what was the goal there? She was just going to wheel that weird? The big Walker, the giant former NFL Walker with the pins through his head. That was kind of cool. It was cool, but what do you do with it? Plus, Nican shot him about a thousand times and he still didn't die. Right.

Well, he didn't shoot him in the head. Sure looked like he did. Sure looked like he did. If Nigan has the gun and he knows how Walker's died, why wouldn't he shoot him in the head? He sure looked like he shot him in the head. Anyway, maybe he didn't shoot him in the head because he was tied up. Oh, wait. No, Wade.

He wasn't tied up. Anyway, what about the... Then the helicopter shows up. I love Negan's phrase he used throughout the show. Really good. No, I'm not going to edit that out for you. You get that. That's what he said.

Live with it. But then there was no follow-up. Like, what the helicopter... Explain what the helicopter. Well, that was the end, right? Because then he said at the end, he said, you're going to explain what all that was? And she's like, no.

Okay. Yeah. I'll just go. Maybe I'll stop by again someday. So her watch alerted her to the basically hinting that this comes every single day or maybe once a week. That was her extraction. It was on a schedule. Yeah.

So it's like. So that's what the flare was for, right? So I guess that's a. We could plainly see the helicopter. You could have, if the pilot had reached out of the helicopter and waved, you could have seen him, right? But he couldn't see them on the ground. Yeah. Well, no, he could see them on the ground.

it was a matter of who what was happening on the ground right if jadis didn't have the torch then she was fine probably yeah right yeah okay yeah if she has the torch then it's we got to help yeah so every day that helicopter was flying in there or every or every whatever and we've only seen rick see it once well we've heard it twice right we've only heard it two or three times no have we yeah i thought we'd only heard it once when rick was coming down i thought that too yeah yeah Turned on the road in this talk, that's twice. That's twice. Yeah.

But if this thing is every day, you can heal, in that world. I don't think it's every day. Even if it's every week or every month, that world is dead silent other than birds. There's no power. There's no. And all of us that you don't hear it, you can hear a helicopter coming from 100 miles away. In today's world. In today's world, you can hear it from a 50.

So you'd think you'd hear that somewhere in the background. You like that? Giant Sky Traffic Report. What about them? A herd of walkers coming down 95. What about, Negan? But they're obviously, though, setting something.

That's what it was. It was the, he was the traffic. That's what it was. This whole time. What about, uh, what about, uh, what about, Neen? Don't go near the power plant. They still got that fast.

What about Negan? What about Negan talking about, like, what he was saying about Simon and what they did? And he was like, Wait, that's it. That's all for the helicopter. That's it. Just moving on.

Yes, because we can't, because that's what we're, I wanted to talk about Negan. Okay. Well, all right. Well, all right. Because we're already lost in the helicopter, right? We don't know what it is. We don't know what. Who are they?

I know. She's a scientist. That's what I'm saying. She's definitely a lot more than what she appeared. Her quarters were immaculate. Definitely not trash lady. No. That's definitely government housing.

Yeah. She's a size. She's CDC. She's something. She's, yeah, that was like military style, like, you know, I don't know, like cleanliness and order and everything. So, yeah, there's definitely some going on with this girl. And she's much hotter this one. My girl. It's the same size as the containers, right? So that's their rooms, right? The contained government housing is the containers. Yep. Even her dress. They're even showing that her dress was all a part of her stick. You know what I mean? Yeah. She had her shirt tucked in.

She was all clean. You know what I mean? Everything about her was an act as far as the trash stuff was concerned. Which leads me to all the other people were acting too. See, this is interesting. It's actually really, really interesting. It sure is. But that's what annoyed me with, they just skipped over the helicopter talk.

Because you know that that's what we wanted to hear. Like, he would want to know that too. Yes, you have a helicopter. I want to know more about this helicopter. And you're now speaking in complete sentences and you're clean and orderly and hot. Like, what's going on here? He would have immediately tied. The Negan that we all know would have immediately tied her up and made her tell him.

Yeah. Or at least tried. Yes. What about Negan and her talking about the like. About Simon? There we go. Back to Simon. Yes, back to Simon.

He's going to die. I know it's going to be good too. That is going to be good. And if you notice the preview next week when they're in the boss's room, you know, when they're in Negan in the conference room there. going over what they're going to do Simon is not in there I didn't notice that he's going to get the iron

he's going to get the iron I think but then we also see in the preview where Simon is trying to get Dwight to help him for the uprising yeah to go against Negan so maybe Simon doesn't die yet maybe he's on the lamb

they are so trying to humanize Negan I was picking that up on this episode with yeah I thought that was talking about Lucille Jeffrey didn't like it but I thought that was a good scene with him talking about Lucille I honestly thought that was a good scene. I like it too.

Well, you know what it does is it sets up the next villain. It softens Negan so that the next badass look. Which is what they want to do. They want to also soften them because if they're going to stick to any part of the comic books, it'll be that Negan lives, right? Yeah. Which I don't think so.

He can't. He can't. He's got to die. You'll have to dry your eyes back. With this, With them escalating this whole, like, what appears to be Commonwealth storyline. I'm just... I'm wondering if they are going to skip the whispers on a... It's what it seems like. That's what I'm thinking.

Or just switch the order. Maybe do the whispers after the Commonwealth. Maybe. Why not? I mean, the whispers is still a cool concept. But it's... Yeah. What sucks is they're already...

They've already released the Commonwealth stuff, right? It's kind of interesting. It's like if you parallel with, like, Game of Thrones, like, one of the reason Game of Thrones is kind of cool now is because the readers aren't caught up. You know what I mean? They've got like a download from George R. Martin about what's going to happen. Right. So it's all new from the people that are watching it. So like, you know details are going to be different, but they're still going to kind of follow the general plot line. Right. I'm wondering if we're doing something similar now. Like, because the full plot line for

commonwealth hasn't been played out yet. So maybe they're going to try and release things. You know what I'm saying? So they're like, because everyone else already that's watching it now, if you've read the comics, you basically know what's going to happen. Yeah, you do. But that completely changes if they go ahead in time. Right. If they're like, you know, in cahoots with Kurtzman as far as that timeline. Exactly. Generally what's going to happen.

That'd be kind of dope. Yeah, that would be. And that would be, you know, that's a, that's kind of a slap to the comic book people saying, ha ha, you know, we followed it for a while. Now we're going to jump and you're going to have to follow us now to know what's going on. So you've got to sell more comic books. Yeah.

Right? And the ratings. That's a smart idea. I like it. Ratings for Walking Dead of what? Have they been steady or they kind of... They've fallen. They've been down a little bit.

Yeah. So, they're trying something. They've fallen, but they have been steady. Right. But for Walking Dead, they've been not really great. They've been 10 to 13 million somewhere in there. Still, nice chunk. But still, like...

Not for them. Right. But there's a whole lot. Like, think about when Walking Dead first came out, like, what was on TV then versus what's on TV now. Oh, right. Oh, my gosh. It's like, you. You can, people don't even watch cable now because there's so many other things.

You know, I cut the cord for crying out loud. Yeah. Right. But I mean, it's like people are just watching Netflix or TV is insanely good right now. It sure is. Back then there was nothing else for you to watch. Yeah, right. Most people.

They were like, holy crap. That was breaking new ground. That's true. TV hadn't gone there yet. That was 2010. And Netflix saved, Netflix saved Walking Dead. I mean, I know we've covered this. At least I've covered it before, but I mean, I personally believe Netflix saved Walking Dead.

because it was a show on AMC that was okay. It was doing okay. You know, it was not huge. It probably maybe had another season left, maybe. And as soon as it went up on Netflix, people saw it then. Yeah, they could catch up. And they, right. And people saw it and went, wow, this show.

Look at this. Yeah, right. I mean, this is like, I mean, my, I remember Amber saying, you probably should watch this. She's my watcher, my official watcher. lets me know what shows I need to watch. Don't talk until I've spoken to you. No, that's her job.

She does her job. She watches things to let me know if I need to watch them. That's her job. She knows that. And then you mentioned this earlier about a, and I said this in the car, a little thing between Ezekiel and Carol. Oh, yeah, a little,

the whole, sit in their holding hands. So cute. Oh, boy. Do you think that would be a good relationship, Ezekiel and Carol? No, they've always been. kind of the king is always kind of favored the king is always

favored caro or as Jerry calls him dude that was amazing dude dude true he's so great he is so great yeah highness season finale Jerry gets eaten

better not I'd be so pissed Jerry's a fan favorite now yeah he's a fan favorite now I don't think we get rid of him for a while I mean, he's working into an opportunity to die and make it a big deal. Yeah. Right?

I mean, because he's, I was surprised at, you know, we've joked around and you obviously were the first one on board to the Jerry fan club. Jerry train. You're the number one card carry. Jesus is the king. Oh, one. Jason on the fan club for Jerry. But when he wasn't there and when he came back and made an appearance, I mean, social media

and crazy. Jerry. So, I mean, he's definitely become a cult hero working for the king, no question. Which is dangerous for the actor, though. I know. Very dangerous. I know.

Big time. But Ezekiel, speaking of getting off the timeline, Ezekiel should be dead at this point, right? No. I thought he got his, he got killed by the Whispers, though, didn't he? He did get killed by the whispers. We're still in all-out war.

Okay. All right. So. And also in the comics, him and uh, uh, uh,

uh, uh, Mishone have a relationship. Because they're both black. Would you stop that?

Yeah. That's what it is. Hey. No, it's the hairstyle. They both have dreads. But the king and Mishone don't make that much sense either because

and neither one of them have real hair. Going by your, uh, you know, they're both alphas. Right out there? Yeah, but the king is not so much a badass alpha.

He is a leader alpha. There's a difference. He's not a, he's not a swashbuckling killer he's an annoying actor I think I hate the king I love I love Ezekiel

I'm on the Ezekiel fan club here I do that it kind of in the beginning I was I was really kind of against it like come on what do we do he belongs on Saturday morning cartoons he does not belong in the walking dead

But that was his whole point though right That was his explanation That's what he knows that's what he did And people want to believe it Yeah And that's what helps them get through these tough times. And when he broke during

those couple episodes, you could see that that's not him. Right. People were like, well, we need the king. But still, I mean, okay, so it looks cool to see a tiger running around and fighting and stuff. And I know a lot of people love that, but I mean, still, it's like, for me, it's like, what was next?

They're going to come riding in on bears next. When you mentioned the tiger, her name is Shiva and we should have a moment of silence. Start riding a Okay. It's like a Tolkien type thing or something. I don't know.

You know who shows up next is the rock. The rock shows up riding the gorilla and knocks over the helicopter. Where are they getting the fuel for the helicopter? It's government, right? It's a big-time operation. Yeah. Big-time operation. It's the Commonwealth.

Come on, it's got to be. Yeah, and plus when the world falls like that, right, there's still, you're still going to have. Fossil fuels. Some, well, but I mean, you're still going to have people who are, have access to what's the need. That is true. Right? I'm trying to rebuild the structure of society.

In theory, yes, but I think that so much of that would have been used. But how far are we into the apocalypse at this point? A couple of years, I think. I would think three or four or five. It goes back to what two episodes ago when that lady that everyone thinks is the Commonwealth chick, right? Like was giving over all those secrets. But those were secrets were like, you know, like solar power stuff.

like that. Oh, big whoop. Stuff that would make these communities take the next leap. But you know if it's, you know if they're giving that away, they are miles away from that tech. And Alexandria had all that anyway. Like solar power and all that stuff?

Yeah, I mean, Alexandria, the mayor and hubby were, you know, they were building that to be self-sustainable as it was. And then the saviors came along and ruined it. Right. Yeah.

How have the savers not found these folks yet? I know. Well, here's the thing. If it's the common, here's the thing, if it is the commonwealth, the saviors are no match for them because the saviors have a couple hundred at most

the commonwealth is 50,000 strong and technology well the saviors keep multiplying though every time you kill 10 of them 20 appears I know so I don't know they're like the magically regenerating group so who do you think Max has got a great a great idea on who Negan picked up

last oh yeah I don't first of all I want to say another thing before we get to that he was driving that Beamer that 325 I I had one of those cars I love those cars Yeah too bad is too bad I was so upset His charger got burnt I was so upset I love the Dodge charger
