Starting point is 00:00:00 The Blaze Radio Network On Demand Season 9, episode 2, titled The Bridge. Jeff Fisher here, joining me with Jason Butchell and Maximus Fisher, as usual. Exciting episode of Walking Dead, and that makes this talking Walking Dead. All right, so the IMDB description says the communities join forces to restore a bridge that will facilitate communication and trade. someone is gravely injured at the construction site. That is an understatement.
Starting point is 00:01:00 You aren't kidding an understatement. I've got to tell you, the episode was amazing. Really good. Really good. Yeah, there's like, you know what this reminded me of? There was this like show, I can't remember AMC or something like that. I think it was called Hell on Wheels. Do you ever see that?
Starting point is 00:01:15 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was about them building a railroad or whatever in that old Confederate. So I got. That was, went on for quite some time. And it was really good. Yeah, it was really good. It was really good. I love those shows, like those Old West, you know, like, you know, kind of like, I don't know, just all the intrigue and stuff. Deadwoodish. Deadwoodish, exactly. Very good way to describe that. Walking Redwood.
Starting point is 00:01:36 That's what this is, actually. That's what I felt like. Yeah, I got that vibe. And I was like so digging it. Just like the camp they had, like reminded me of the camp they went to in the first season. Remember? Oh, yeah, yeah. All the tents and stuff where they first met Carol. And that's what it felt like. Yeah. I'm starting to see like when they said that you're going to feel like those first season vibes. I'm definitely picking up those first season vibes. I noticed too is when they said it's been like a month and four days since the last episode. Timeline. Right, right, right.
Starting point is 00:02:10 Because it was what they were talking about that with Maggie, right? When they were, when she was playing with the baby or whatever talking to Jesus, we realized it was over a month. Dang. Hang. Yeah. Wow, I did not get that. That's crazy. So, all right, so I enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:02:27 And we, I keep, one of the, one of the things that's a downside, before we start, you know, doing a quick little recap of some of the episodes, one of the things that's a downside to me, though, is that I know Rick is going. It's just bumming me. You're just waiting for it? It's just bumming me. I'm enjoying all the time with them and the, you know, the fights and the, you know, really the main characters, the original characters, still,
Starting point is 00:02:53 No matter how much they fight, they have that look in their eyes like, we're still a team. Yeah. You know what I mean? Even when Rick is like, I don't know, ask him. Daryl Storms off. It's still, you know, it's still all good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:06 You know what about? Are we on the same? Well, I don't know. You tell me. Of course they know it. It's like, in Norman Reatt is he said that perfectly in that interview. I think I mentioned this a couple weeks ago where he was like, yeah, they're like brothers. You know, like they may disagree, but at the end of the day, they're family.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Like his line after like, well, You tell me, Darrell said, thing is, I've been trying. You just haven't been listening. Right. Well, Darrell just wants, look, Darrell wants to put it in to the Saviors. We'll just end this relationship right now. He doesn't like him.
Starting point is 00:03:37 They all tried to kill us. They did horrible things. They tortured him, and he wants him gone. Yeah. You know, Maggie, of course, is on that same page because of, you know, the death of her husband and what they did to Daryl and some of her other people. So, I mean, they want Negan dead and they want the Savior's gone.
Starting point is 00:03:58 Why are we still protecting Negan and the Savior? Well, some Saviors are turned out good. I mean, there was the, I can't remember her name, though. The girl with the barcode on her neck. We saw her a glimpse of her, and she seemed like she was doing fine. Is she? I don't think so. I think she's still on their side.
Starting point is 00:04:18 I think she's still on their side. Because we saw. It's hard to say. end of the episode where the missing saviors stop the wagon. Yeah. You know, so the, you know, they're banding together to have their own separate group aside from the whisperers, right? That's why they've been, they've go missing. We saw that with Homeboy that got kicked out.
Starting point is 00:04:43 When Rick kicked him out, he said, you about got yourself killed because he knew them. Right. And then he got attacked. Well, they knocked him out because. He was drunk and they're going to... And it could be that chick, barcode chick. Yeah, it could be. Very well could.
Starting point is 00:04:57 But she seemed like she was fine, though, really in the group. I don't know, she definitely could be acting, but didn't... Wouldn't she in, like, some relationship or something like that, weren't they? It looked like, for a second. It looked like she was with Daryl last episode. I'm not kidding. For just a split second, it would look like she was with Daryl, but we all brushed that off.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Well, I'm good with Daryl taking care of a little business with her. Speaking of business. Okay, let's start with Jerry and the other girl. Yeah, I mean, everybody's business in. Let's see, we have Jerry and the other girl from the kingdom. Jerry's all in love with the girl that, you know, at the kingdom. She gave him the big, big axe. That was, of course.
Starting point is 00:05:37 So don't leave, don't leave without your ass. I love that, Jerry, man. You can never have too much Jerry. He's in place. Agreed. Whenever, whenever he's on screen, he's a, I mean, he owns the screen. Yeah, totally. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:51 So weird because he's like a nobody. Like I've never seen him as an actor before and anything else. And it's just so powerful. It really is. I mean that. I mean that he when he's there, even when he only says, you know, Piper 1 out or whatever, you clear to the movie boy, dude. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:07 You know, whatever. I mean, he owns that. The personality, yeah, he brings to it. Yeah, it's hilarious. If Jerry dies this season, we riot. Oh, yeah. We know Rick is going. Well, if Jerry dies.
Starting point is 00:06:20 He is so. I don't know, he's so the guy in the brown uniform or whatever on the away team. You know what I mean? On Star Trek? You know, there's always like, there was one color of uniform where you knew every time they hit that the guy's dead.
Starting point is 00:06:36 That was the red shirt. They're totally setting him up to be like that guy on the OA team. Because like you're like right now we like care about him, you know what I mean? But he's not pivotal to like going forward. Correct. You're right that it's a big enough character to die And we'll feel really sad, but it doesn't affect the show.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Right. Right. All those characters, that's the ones you've got to be worried about. Well, and this year, I feel you, though, with that, you know, just that, there's a sense of impending doom. It sure is. You know? Yeah, because you know the whispers are coming. And I'm giving it, what, I'm not worried until we hit the fourth episode.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Like, actually, so we've had two. Yeah. I'm going to feel safe next episode. Number four are all bets off. I have no idea. I mean, he literally could go down in the fourth episode. I don't know. They made it seem like it was going to be before the break.
Starting point is 00:07:25 I heard a rumor about... They made it seem... Didn't we read an article or something that talked about it was before the mid-season break? I mean, maybe they milk it till then. Maybe the episode pre-mid-season break, the ending is whatever is supposed to happen to Rick. And then that last episode of mid-season break is Rick Dying. A la fear. They could be doing the same...
Starting point is 00:07:51 damn formula. And that's what's his face. Setting it up to the mid-season finale. And that is, that's simple. Yes. And exactly. And then we're not exactly sure what happened, you know, in the finale, but then when it comes back, they say, show you exactly what happened to him. Well, one thing.
Starting point is 00:08:06 We're not doing the weird. Well, here's the, here's two things. One, they're not doing the weird before and after thing this season. I hope they don't. And they're also not. also you could tell gimple is kind of let off you could tell all this is new well he has kind of released a little bit of the the reins from uh to what's her name anderla kang yeah um and then we had uh you know carroll and is carol and zekeel yeah i know that was amazing when he when he got
Starting point is 00:08:46 out when he was like stop stop he was like but i wrote a speech that was kind of funny i like the I like the interaction between the three of them. You know, the little boy. Henry. Henry and then. He is, we've created a monster and I love it. He needs to be the one that's going to carry the torch. The Carl Torch?
Starting point is 00:09:10 I mean, he needs to be carrying the torch. You aren't lying when Rick goes, Henry, because Henry's going to freak, right? Because he's already, he's feeling comfortable. He's got Carol. He's got the king. But Rick is pretty much, you know, let it happen. How old was Carl Max in the Whisperer timeline? Is he a lot older than Henry?
Starting point is 00:09:28 He was actually around almost 18, I think. So I was thinking, I wonder if they're just going to make Henry have like this little... The Carl character. Yeah, and like the love interest with the Savior's girl. No, Carl in the comic storyline has a love interest with the daughter of Alpha. And have they cast the daughter of Alpha yet? Do we know? I don't think we know.
Starting point is 00:09:52 So they could just make her a lot younger and have them as like a more of a friendship, kind of like Enid and Carl type thing. Oh, we saw it. That's awkward thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Before we get to, before we get to Gabriel and Anne,
Starting point is 00:10:05 we saw a little bit of Sadiq and Enid, and Enid's now an assistant nurse to Sadiq. Oh, yeah, she did some serious doctrine. We'll talk about that later. You know, we can talk about it right now. I mean, that was some serious. doctrine. You know, I was thinking, sorry to back up, back, get back on the carol, I'm sorry to Carol and King, but I started getting the feeling, especially since they keep pushing Carol
Starting point is 00:10:30 over under the Saviors, you know, camp to try to be like the leader, I still think, and I hate to say this, but I really think that social justice warrior, Hollywood, you know, mindset is really pushing this show. I just got a feeling. And I would not be surprised at all if you have Carol. I think Carol's going to be the leader of the Saviors. They're going to have someone step in. Who's going to step in for Maggie, actually, I'm not sure. But with Michone at Alexandria,
Starting point is 00:11:01 basically taking over for Rick. Although Michone might go to Hilltop. You think so? Well, who would take over at Alexandria? Megan. That I would like, actually. I would actually like that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:15 I just don't know. And what's Jesus doing? Jesus doesn't want to be in. charge, right? Nah, nah, he said that before. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:21 He said that this episode, too. Yeah. I don't know who they would have, stand in. Maybe, maybe for a little while, a homeboy and his wife, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:33 the person in jail, what's his face? You think? Earl, John Finn, the guy that plays Earl. You think so? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:11:42 I don't know. He might, you know, he might step up because he knows that, you know, Maggie gave him the out. And he's a bigger name actor. Yes, he is. I mean, they both are.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Yeah. And they play. I mean, look, and their characters are really good and and, you know, they're fine. I'm not saying that. I'm not taking away from their acting ability. They're a big enough actor to be known, but they're not a superstar. Yeah. So they're actually taking on the roles that they're playing, which is great.
Starting point is 00:12:06 And I think they're doing a pretty good job. And look, they're the only ones that we, outside of the, you know, the walk bys of the farmers inside a hilltop, they're the only ones that have stepped up. Does Hilltop... Well, other than that one savior who switched sides.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Oh, yeah, yeah. Maggie's right him in there, yeah. Max, does Hilltop survive the Whisperer storyline in the comics? It barely does. Like, it barely survives. But the kingdom goes down, right? The kingdom does not go down. The king does, but the kingdom does not.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Okay, so all the communities are still kicking at the end. Alexandria got hit hard by the Whisperer War. So did Hilltop. They both got hit really. I keep seeing all of this construction going on, like especially a hilltop where they're building all these places. And like the whole time I'm thinking, all this is going down.
Starting point is 00:12:57 You know it. Just stop building because it's going to get burnt to the ground by the end of the season. You know what's going to happen. Specifically, yeah, burnt to the ground. You want to know what they do in the comics? The whispers, they walk up to the walls of hilltop, fire arrows. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Is that what it sounded like? And the comic books Is that what that sound like? That's a sound effect I could get off the page. And then we had the relationship
Starting point is 00:13:29 between Gabriel and Ann. Oh yeah, Jadis a little... Oh, that's straight. Piss me off, boy, you better step back. Why? Better step back.
Starting point is 00:13:37 I've already got dibs on Jadis. Sorry. The Cyclops man taken over. Nobody wanted her. I took her. And now Gabriel's... He's creeping up. That's bull crap.
Starting point is 00:13:48 preacher. I know. Right. He's got one eye. Give me a break. And we see. I clearly have two and they're fully functional. And we find out he is not a Catholic priest.
Starting point is 00:14:00 So it's okay. We knew that though because his church was not a Catholic church. Yeah. Before. But the, you know, but a lot of preachers including himself would have, you know, may have still taken the vow of celibacy. But of course, he was all in love with his organist. Stop it.
Starting point is 00:14:19 So stupid. That old conversation was dumb. I was like, what if what's going on here? All of a sudden, she starts, like, rubbing his hand. I was like, uh-huh. Just don't ask me my secrets. That's what we talk about in a relationship. You stupid.
Starting point is 00:14:31 Shut up. Shut up. And then they were talking about the gaiver mentioned the frog mating calls. Right, the frog mating calls. And then she's up in the, you know, the perch on the lookout and we see the helicopter again. Who is this chick? I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:14:49 We see the helicopter. You can barely hear it. You could barely hear the helicopter. When she looks up, you just see this little light, but you know what it is. But she... Who is this chick? There's something there. It's got to be common.
Starting point is 00:15:02 I don't know how they're going to weave that in. It's got to be New World Order, right, Max? I don't. I don't know. There's no Jadis in the comic ones? Jadis does not exist in the comics. Right. And this is a made-up.
Starting point is 00:15:16 That or somehow, It's coffee. God, the helicopter, because I haven't, I'll admit, I've kind of, I've skipped on some of the comic books since I went, since I had to work a job this summer. So, I'll admit. We are heading this show, right? Turn your mic off. Yeah, but there's still no Jadis, though. Yeah, Jadis and the scavengers when they were around.
Starting point is 00:15:40 They did not, they do not exist in the comics. Right. And we still, and there was that, that other lady last season, remember that showed up and gave her. That book? Because we saw the key to the future book this episode. Yeah, Rick turned it over upside down. That was the same book, right? Yeah, that was the exact same book. So they're moving that in that direction. So it's interesting. It wasn't just a one-off, you know? So they are, this is big part of the show going for it.
Starting point is 00:16:02 How weird that we've seen more about that than the Whispers. That's so strange. Well, I'll admit, it takes a little bit to get to the Whispers and the comics. After all out war, it takes about two or three issues before we get to. to the whispers. And that's when we get the, whew. No, that's later.
Starting point is 00:16:23 That is later. I just mess with you. I know. But yeah, so I understand the little weight because that the little weight did happen with the comics as well. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:16:34 Well, I don't, I don't know. I don't know what to make of her and make of that at all. John Javis? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:42 Well, yeah, she's so like, it's almost like she's like a secret agent or something like that. this group. Like she like blended in with this other group, kind of became them. She tried to pretend that she was, and we don't know this, that she was, some sort
Starting point is 00:16:56 of teacher or a professor because she knew where the seeds were in D.C. Yeah. Right? She, and there just happened to be seeds there. After all this time. No one else thought to go over there and ransack it. Everything else is ransacked, but not a museum in Washington, D.C. Tell me this.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Come on. After the apocalypse is over and say you're near D.C., even if you're in the apocalypse, wouldn't be the first thing you think of would be, you know what? I'm going to go ransack the White House. No one's going to care. Totally.
Starting point is 00:17:31 I'm sitting in the oval office. That's what I'm doing. Oh my gosh. Can you imagine like a zon? We see the, I don't care which president, but a Walker president, who would have the honors of killing that? Oh, it'll be true.
Starting point is 00:17:46 It'll be true. All right. we have a I mean it was really it was it was nice I mean Aaron is still a big part of the show right we he he gets the arm lost like Rick was supposed to be gone that was crazy that was that was gnarly whole scene of at the logging camp and Aaron's arm and the death and then the logger jacks when when Rick breaks the logs down on the walkers that was a tremendous great walking dead that was yeah almost original walking dead stuff Totally agree. Yeah, that was dope.
Starting point is 00:18:19 The action, like, Rick was like badass Rick, you know. I know. They were all together. They were all doing it. We see Darrell with his new knives. I totally agree. Just like Darrell said, you know, when we're together, I was like, you know, there's almost nothing we can't do. That's a good point.
Starting point is 00:18:34 Yeah, Darrell breaking, pulling out both knives and like, he goes, you know, another, you know, backwards. I was dope. I was like, dang. They said that specifically designed them for him to hold them upside down. Who said that? Norman Reis, he said in an interview, he said the new knives that Daryl has. He said that they specifically designed it so you could hold them upside down so it could protect the lower forearm. Dang.
Starting point is 00:19:00 That's the way I use my knives too. Yeah, me too. When I bust them out. You know, because you got to protect the lower forearm. Everybody knows that, duh. Well, you tell me something I don't know. No, duh, Rita. But yeah, see, when Daryl and the rest of the guys were able to get the log off of Aaron's arm and we see his arm.
Starting point is 00:19:24 That was gnarly. That was gnarly. And you knew what was going to happen. I knew you're like, oh, crap, they were going to chop it off right there. That's what I thought. It wasn't bit, so. That's true. That's true.
Starting point is 00:19:35 It wasn't bit. Right, but I just expected it. I don't know. I did. I thought, and it appeared, though, and I don't want to be, you know, I'm becoming too picky, but it appeared that she didn't. the arm high enough. I noticed that too. Yeah. With the damage that they showed, yeah, that arm should have been cut off higher. But you know, look, I'm not a doctor. Oh wait, neither is Enid. Well, Enid's a nurse in training with the Sadiq. You didn't that totally, they, they,
Starting point is 00:20:03 you totally knew something bad as it happened. When she goes, you're leaving? I was like, oh God, who's dying? Someone's going to die very soon. Somebody had to come in with something that she. Yeah. Then she, so. Wait a second. I got to find the book, dead. And then we, so then we notice, so Aaron lost his arm.
Starting point is 00:20:28 I can't speak right now. Wait. And then, do you believe Enid is still a traitor? Yes. I don't know. But if she keeps looking better and better like she has been, I'll change my mind.
Starting point is 00:20:44 I think that, yeah, okay, so I will, I will be waiting for my opinion. apology written, I still, you still owe me that. If we, uh, I don't know, it still would be a big reveal if like when Negan comes out and then I don't know, that there, that could be maybe one of the things that leads to the end of Maggie. You know, you never know.
Starting point is 00:21:03 Like if he, if, uh, if Negan comes out and just to start some crap, it's like, oh, you're still here, you know, like something like that. I don't know. I still could see that happening. And that would be just one of those other gut-wrenching things that would, they could like, you know, Cause some drama in the show. So I'm still holding on to it. Everybody would.
Starting point is 00:21:21 Right. What? Yeah, it would be great. And because this is like, like radio podcast, they can't tell like the face you just gave me. Of course they would. That was Jeffie's shocked face as he turned and looked at me with a shocked face. Are you kidding me? They can't see that.
Starting point is 00:21:38 There's cameras right in front of you. Cameras are right there. All right. So we've got to, I mean, it was a tremendous episode. No question. And we didn't even talk about Rick and Negan's little talk. Yeah, I mean, we didn't see that most of it before. That was released.
Starting point is 00:21:58 Most of that was released before. There were some new stuff, yeah. Not much. And look, I love Negan, and I love the Rick chat. I thought it's a bit much. I mean, I enjoyed it. No question. I enjoyed it.
Starting point is 00:22:12 But, you know, it's a bit much for Rick to get all wound up over a Negan name and Carl. He should just, he knows it's going to happen. Neiman probably Rick walks in and Negan's like Carl, Carl, Carl, just to piss him off. Yeah. I don't, you know, the only thing I was really thinking of with that whole storyline between, it's just
Starting point is 00:22:32 it's exactly, the Negan storyline, well, his situation is exactly the same as Oral's situation. They're both kind of down in these dungeons, different communities, but they're talking about doing common laws between the entire commonwealth community. Yes. So I'm, I'm wondering if they're going to, that's going to be the thing that ultimately, you know, break, let sneak and get out of prison.
Starting point is 00:22:54 Like they're going to have some rules and say, okay, these are in the rules. This is, you know, we cannot incarcerate someone over a certain amount of time, something like that. That's the only thing I can think of because they're, like, talking about establishing laws, specifically so they can, like, manage, like, punishment and all that stuff. Although, Maggie, you know, Maggie was like, that's fine, you can come up with your own little laws, but I'm still doing what I want to do. Yeah. I did kind of like that.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Maggie's badass. Yeah, I remember, I think I said that in one of the group tests. It seems like Daryl and Maggie are really the only sane people right now. They're the only realists. It sure does. You know, like, everybody else is, like, holding on to these, like, delusions when, like, those two are like, all right, this world isn't changing. It's the same. It's no less dangerous.
Starting point is 00:23:36 I guess maybe Negan is like that, too, but he's locked up. And he's psychotic, so. He's not psychotic? He's smart. You know, I know you love Negan. It's okay, take it easy. Yeah, you're right. A lot of smart people would jump to conclusions
Starting point is 00:23:53 that are just burning someone's face off, you know, if they disagree with you. That doesn't take psychosis at all. Okay, yeah, I understand that one. He actually admitted he's done, one of the line he actually said in the comics, which fully, I think, describes him. His name was when he was explaining this to Alpha
Starting point is 00:24:13 is, yeah, I've done all this horrible crap. I've made someone's head, look like oatmeal. I've made someone, I've made someone's face look like a burnt pizza. Right. But one thing, I've never done anything without a reason.
Starting point is 00:24:31 Name one thing Negan did where he didn't have a reason behind it. That is, you know, that's every serial killer in America. I don't think that makes him any more sane. The governor, he did some stuff without reason. The governor, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:24:47 I still think he's still. in my all time. The governor snapped. We all can agree on that. The governor went insane. Yeah, he's still on my all time. I don't know. Like, Negan's definitely the best bad guy. But the governor is right there. If I, if Negan is one A, governor's one B in my book. I really like the governor. All right. So we're looking forward to episode three next week, hoping that Rick is still with us. We're kind of predicting that Rick is going to be with us until they pull the fear at the end. end of the mid-season break. It's definitely possible. That makes sense. It does make sense, and that's what they like doing things.
Starting point is 00:25:26 And they love to milk that. Yes. You know, like, oh, let's keep them around. Let's make sure they tune in for the mid-season. Yes. What do they call it? Premier. So far, both episodes have been really good, though.
Starting point is 00:25:39 I mean, it feels really good to have the Walking Dead back. Yep. And so you'll get this post, and don't forget, you also got the daily post of chewing the fat Monday through Friday. Thank you for listening. And I'll leave you with a quote from the group text last night as the scene of Jadis slash Anne and the preacher man sitting in a tree. Yeah, S-S-I-N-G.
Starting point is 00:26:07 Dude better step back. That's my girl. Wonder who said that. Gee, we wonder. Have a good week. Thanks for listening. interesting.
