Starting point is 00:00:00 This is talking fear this week. Fear the Walking Dead. Season 3, episode 11, Lesipatine. What is it? La Serpentine. Yes, that's exactly it. That's exactly how you pronounce it.
Starting point is 00:00:17 Leserbiente. Which I was curious about what that was going to mean. And we found out. Got one of the best lines that they've done in a while. I know. I know. But to get us in the mood, I mean, we might as well get a little real wild. fucking dead in us.
Starting point is 00:00:56 See? Makes you feel good. It does make you feel good. And it's not far off. Right, October 22nd. That still feels so far off. It sure does. I tell you what, the best thing about fear, though, in my opinion, has been...
Starting point is 00:01:12 You covered this last week, too. The commercials where they show the upcoming with the previews, which they're getting dang good, dude. I know. It makes you feel like, all right, well, all right, if I'm going to sit through fear to get to the commercial, okay. I've never watched a TV show where I'm like, I can't wait for the content to be over so we can get to the commercials so that we can get to the real content. So, before we get to episode 11 and that's a bit of day.
Starting point is 00:01:38 Yes. Just a reminder that doesn't surprise, didn't surprise me, it may surprise some of you, that the audience numbers are dwindling. Tanking? dwindly yes okay so is this are they are they tanking at the siblings series which is fear ratings this most recent season hit a series low with uh less of hidden no kidding with 2.14 million viewers and they had two four the week before so even from the week before is awfulness they've gone down. And the week before his awfulness
Starting point is 00:02:26 was two episodes that was the season premiere or the second half premiere. I think this is fake news. This is completely impossible because remember all the critics are saying this show is eclipsing the Walking Dead. Well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:39 And they said that it said here even though the quality of fear the walking dead continues to improve the numbers in the ratings have not. So they're still trying to sell it. Well, after last
Starting point is 00:02:55 week's debacle, what else can you expect? I mean, when you sell a two-hour oh my godzers crazy cool show and we get two hours of basically snoring the entire time. I
Starting point is 00:03:11 could barely stay awake last episode. What do you expect from this week? What did you expect? Well, we pretty much called this week, I think. Yeah. From if, I mean, we get through this week. We've got We've got Walker and what's your face? Okay, can I just start off by saying they did some, we've already established this point that they listen to this podcast and they take our advice?
Starting point is 00:03:35 I know. There's no question. There's no question at all. There's no doubt about it. We can pretty much just say that's fact at this point. But they did, I thought, make some improvements and some stuff that we were complaining about last time. Yeah, they did. Like almost from the get-go.
Starting point is 00:03:49 There was a ton more walkers in this. There was actually zombies made in appearance. There was. Imagine that. And it was, I thought that they would be a little bit smarter than just stop in the road with the walkers of the car crash. The beeping thing. Can we discuss that for a second? That was pretty slick.
Starting point is 00:04:08 That was stupid. Well, the zombies are like, oh, forget the big truck that pulled up and the three human beings in there. It's still idling. It's still idling. And they're sitting right there in front of us. But we're going to go investigate this. sound. It's only like 20 feet away from the truck. What? It is not, you know there's no way. If you're standing next to that truck, you're not hearing that beeper. Come on. No way.
Starting point is 00:04:34 The roar of the engine was louder than the beep. My grandfather used to drive one of those standard oil trucks that are that size. There's no way you're hearing the beeper 20 feet away. You're just not. Yeah. Forget just, okay, this is a new level. So forget draping yourself and Walker goo. Right. Now all you need is a faint beeping noise. Yeah, there's a key fob that apparently only even a dog can barely hear that frequency because I could barely hear that thing coming through my surround sound. He thought he was so cool. Yeah, he did.
Starting point is 00:05:04 He's like, Mr. Smooth. I got you, bro. I got you. I got you. I got you. Okay, so then, then. Now, how about, I'm a little confused at, I'm guessing that the truck could probably easily move a couple of those.
Starting point is 00:05:23 concrete barriers. I was thinking the same thing because on the other side of the road. There was, I don't know, nothing. Completely open. I know you want to follow the law. Right. And drive on the correct side of the road. I got that.
Starting point is 00:05:37 See, so I was thinking, Jeffrey, we were right on the same wavelength, but I was also thinking, come on. We've all wanted to, we've all sat in rush hour traffic. I'll just smash through the hell. Just smash the hell through there. There's three things right there. Come on. That whole scene was like, why are you just?
Starting point is 00:05:54 This was the opportunity to have fun in the apocalypse. You just plow your way through those cars. Don't care. They're still trying to pretend that they care about not killing things. That little Hyundai and this Honda Civic that was over there blocking you. Come on. Stop it. Have a little fun.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Do we want to run walkers over? Why? Because we still care about them. They're still human. But see, but this is kind of a metaphor for the entire show, really. It's just no fun. You can't even write your. characters to have fun in the show.
Starting point is 00:06:26 That's an excellent point. Come on. That is for sure. That is for sure. That's a great point because that's... Okay, so then we get to, we get to Daniel. We knew we called that exactly how that meeting would go. Kind of surprised about the...
Starting point is 00:06:45 Okay, so I won't get a head of myself. Yeah, not surprised at all. That's exactly how we would have thought Daniel would react to... Right. We called that 100%. It was perfect. I mean, that's just the way it was... going to be. With those characters,
Starting point is 00:06:57 that's the way their reactions would be. Right. Perfect. I think where you're going, and I'll let you go there, but they finally got to meet the Water Queen. Lola. And she was a showgirl. Oh, no, that's not a... That's a different one.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Okay. That would have been fun. We can't have any fun. I know, right? Again, another blown opportunity by AMC. So you were a little surprised at? I was a little surprised that he signed. with Lola. That's what I was surprised with. I thought that the moment he realized Ophelia was,
Starting point is 00:07:30 okay, yes, she is alive, Madison the gang. I just didn't, I didn't expect him to completely do a 180 and say, okay, she's good up there. I trust that she's safe up there in this whatever compound. Yeah, I was surprised at that as well, at least even to the point of, I was surprised that maybe once they got back to the office there that one time that when they were in there talking and they were arguing they didn't let us hear what they were saying. Yeah. But I mean, I was pretty surprised that Daniel wasn't able to get a truck for them. Right. Same.
Starting point is 00:08:03 And say, you know, because if you're Daniel at that point, you're taking a truck. Mm-hmm. Right? It's your daughter. These people have saved you and you've been with them. You've traveled some distance with them. They're not the usual crowd that's banging at the fence that Lola is trying to save and yet not save. and he's getting a truck for those people.
Starting point is 00:08:25 It just is. I don't know why that became such a big thing. It just didn't fit right. Right. Yeah, completely, completely agree. I didn't, none of that made sense to me. And then kind of compounding onto that later on. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:40 The dialogue actually kind of started getting interesting to me a little bit. So there was the, so after that the next scene, maybe not the direct next scene, but they had Walker was in there eating in the mess hall or whatever. Daniel comes down and talks to Walker and then for the first time he finds out what she's been up to. She's been a badass. Yeah, she's been a badass. She's a lot like you
Starting point is 00:08:59 dad. Exactly. Yeah. So you could tell that he's like oh crap. The apple didn't far, far from the tree and I know what it's kind of done to me in my life. Right. So he's concerned, you can tell. Well, right. I mean, but he knows that he I mean he knows what he went through even
Starting point is 00:09:15 just to get here. And he obviously like every father wants better for their children most fathers and so he doesn't want that for his daughter it's his little daughter it's his little baby girl
Starting point is 00:09:30 he's always you know had the little twinkle in his eye for his daughter as you always do yeah every father does nobody no father looks in the crib and says oh look at little Billy someday he's going to rob the 7-Eleven he's going to have to fight
Starting point is 00:09:49 walkers It's going to be the end of the world. Who's a good little baby? Nobody thinks that. Right? So he did have to struggle with that a little bit. I mean, that was a struggle for him to realize that his daughter was a badass like he was. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:06 So then, so Walker, he goes full, I don't know, like, you can tell, like, I couldn't, I couldn't really tell as far as Walker and Madison's relationship. I didn't know if they were actually getting close or what? I felt like they were, and then it felt like they weren't. I absolutely think it's not now. I think Walker is totally, their relationship is purely because it's useful at this point because he was just all, he was like, fine, you know, you screwed that deal up. So, you know, my group over yours and I'm leaving. Right.
Starting point is 00:10:33 You know, and he just bolts. So that kind of surprised me. I think he was absolutely going back to the ranch to start up a full-on in direction and take it back. Which is why she should have ran his ass over walking down that road. I know. Again. Ending it all. Here's your water.
Starting point is 00:10:50 You know what? We lost him in the city. Yeah. Earned the luck. Yep. But anyway, so, but this, again, is it was another, so I mentioned some of the dialogue that I was like. Yes. Most of it all had to do with two characters, not the main characters.
Starting point is 00:11:09 Strand and Salazar. Yeah. Every single conversation had to do with one of those two characters. Yeah. And I was like, wow, these are like the bad. backup characters. They're not even supposed to be the main guys. And they're the only ones that are interesting.
Starting point is 00:11:25 We've said that before. But really, they're the only ones that are interesting. And Daniel knew that he was up to something when he blew the truck up. Yes. When he came out and he used that serpent brain of yours is coiling around an idea.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Right. So awesome. That was really good. It was a good line. Yeah, it was really good writing. It was a good line. Yeah. And then he was like, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:46 but if it's benefiting the both of us, if it's mutually beneficial, I'll look the other way. They're just so interesting. You know, I was like, I could totally watch this show. If it's just like, if it's Daniel and Strand being all sneaky and, you know, pulling off some cool crap. And I kind of liked Walker up to that point where he got a little, where he got little, are my guys and your guys. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:07 I'm not sure I understood that. He's Walker's hardcore. I guess that's the only thing I like about him. I don't think he's too complex. I think he's just like, you know what I'm saying? I think he's real hardcore. He's saved his people. He's got his land and we're saving what we're out for. But to me, from a writer's perspective, it just sounds like he's getting set up for a fall.
Starting point is 00:12:29 You know, something's going to happen to him. You can't be that black and white and survive, really, unless you're a good guy. Right. And if I hear, I hear, Madison, ask somebody about children, do you have kids? One more time, I am going to drive a truck over her. I can't take her, man. I want her gone. Yeah. And she's like this big star, so you got to love her and be the matriarchal hero of the.
Starting point is 00:13:01 I can't take it. I can't take it either. And it's funny. I was searching around on Twitter to see what people were saying about it yesterday. And so many people said they liked Madison. Where do they get that from? I don't know. Are they AMC employees?
Starting point is 00:13:13 Do they have to say this stuff? It must be. I mean, I see the pictures. I see the, you know, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, And I get the show pictures when you're out, when you're working on a show and you do the promo shoots and you're out, you're out promoting the show. Of course you all, you know, are laughing and having a good time and saying good things. I got it. And it's a good show.
Starting point is 00:13:35 So they're all happy and they want it to succeed and they want it to continue to succeed better than it is. I got it. But she is just, how can you and I be the only ones that watch fear and go, holy crap is she bad we're not I mean how can that be it can't see and that's the ratings are showing it that they're going down the lead character is not interesting enough so people
Starting point is 00:14:00 don't care to watch it people want so badly they want so badly to see a female Rick and we want yes they want so I want that too you know what I'm okay with that I'm totally I want to see that but it's got to be written right and you need a female badass is what you need and that's not what she is no no
Starting point is 00:14:19 And Rick never, Rick, while he cared about his family and it was family first, he didn't whine about it. Right. You never have children, you have kids. Shut up. And be fair, when he has whined, we've told him to shut up. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:14:38 That's kind of a good point, too. When he's all seeing ghosts of his wife, we're like, shut up, man. Come on. With the prison and the phone. They're all trying to be a hog farmer and stuff. And they're like, oh, come on. That's a good point. Stop.
Starting point is 00:14:49 get over. Let's go. When he was trying to give in a Negan, we were like, dude, come on. What are you doing? Yes, that's, yes, that's a great point. Plus, holy cow, I'll take the phone calls from the dead wife over that pussy Negan stuff any day. Right. Any day.
Starting point is 00:15:06 See, but this is the difference. So that we knew that that was a momentary lapse in Rick's character arc. Like, that's not who he was. That's just because of the circumstance. Yeah, they did give you from time to time they gave you that the Rick look. Yeah. Where Negan would even, Negan called him out on it a few times too,
Starting point is 00:15:22 where you were like, that's my boy. Yeah, yeah. There he is. So you knew it was coming back. Because that's not who the kid is. Right,
Starting point is 00:15:29 exactly. But Madison is the wuss Rick all the time. You're right. There's never been a, there's never been a there she is. And then when she's trying to be like a badass, you're like, shut up.
Starting point is 00:15:40 That's not who you are. It just seems like an act. Yeah, the whole thing. Come on. Yeah. If, fine, if you want there to be a female race. fine. Kill off Madison and put somebody else in her place. It's easy as that. Easy as that.
Starting point is 00:15:55 You might even be able to turn aphelia into that. I was thinking of the same thing. That could be kind of cool. If she's going to be a female Salazar, hell yeah. I know, right. I'm a sign up for that. And she definitely could be. And if Daniel comes back, we could make her because she could, Daniel would give her some pointers. Right. Daniel would say, look. If you're going to do this. I raised you. I raised you because I didn't want this for you, but obviously we're in the new world order. So if you're going to do it, let's do it right. This is what I learned in El Salvador. There's a new sheriff of child.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Killing fools. His name is Daniel Salazar. So great. A few, you get your ass up here. It'd be great. I mean, that would be fun, right? Yeah, it would. And I don't understand the damn lady, the water lady.
Starting point is 00:16:44 What's her deal? Showgirl. Yeah, a little bit. The show girl. What's her deal? Yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't know that I actually care except that's a lot of water. A lot of people looking for water.
Starting point is 00:16:55 I mean, you'd think she'd want to dole out some to the people, right? Let them have the camp out and give some to the people. So she's like, she's part of that, I guess. Yeah, there would be people like Lola in this era where they want to continue. It's like she wants to continue to deliver water, you know, to everyone. And she wants to be, you know, like really fair and all this. So I just think that she's one of those black and white characters. She's too good and she's not going to survive.
Starting point is 00:17:19 No way. She's getting set up to get a brutal death. Yes. But she has to. Right. Right. She has to. But the bad thing is that then what's going to happen is what your water supply goes because
Starting point is 00:17:31 they're going to break the dam. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I wonder, that can't be the long-term solution. Because is the long-term solution that's extra well they're building, I guess? I don't know. I guess.
Starting point is 00:17:44 I don't know. It's hard for me to kind of tell where they're moving this. I mean, I'd, you know, let's put in a pipeline. Yeah. Come on. Let's put in a pipeline from the dam to the ranch. So, and, and this, this deal is guns for water, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Which does not seem like a good deal to me. No, it does not. You're going to give away all your guns for each water shit. Yeah, no, for 10,000, for one truckload, 10,000 gallons of water, no, thank you. Yeah, what? No. I didn't get that. No, sorry.
Starting point is 00:18:18 I don't think that deal. that's a maybe maybe maybe i'll learn to like madison a little bit if she are if she just said yes to that to get the water and it's not going to be a deal but that's unlike her right right right it's always a bit about her and her that's who are gave it my word right shut shut up and plus i might add another example in this episode and then then we'll look a look ahead but another example of this episode of a fat walker why wasn't it me stuck in the pipe thank you that was a cool scene come on now i know come on i thought that was you for a second i was like oh my gosh and you didn't tell us it's funny you weren't alone in that thought i received many many people questioning
Starting point is 00:19:07 whether that was me or not but it wasn't you made it it wasn't that was a cool scene i knew when when you could tell what was going to happen that she was to start hacking that body apart Right? I was like, bang! Yeah, that was pretty dope. Yeah, you had to. I liked the, I thought Victor, you know,
Starting point is 00:19:24 obviously they were going to die. I thought maybe we'd lose Walker in the tunnels because he didn't know where the hell he was for a little while until he saw the smuggler paint on the walls. But that was, I mean, that's a dangerous place to be in those tunnels when there's walkers down there because you've got no place to go. Yeah, it reminds me of that. Remember there was that one scene.
Starting point is 00:19:46 I don't remember which. Yes. Oh, where they were going to Terminus. Yes. Remember that? And they were stuck in that underpass, whatever? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:51 That was a pretty freaky scene. Yes, it was. Really good. That was a great scene. That's a perfect example because that's even, that was even larger than where they were at. I mean, there's nowhere to go. Yeah. And those walkers, you know, the sad thing is the walkers don't quit, right?
Starting point is 00:20:07 I mean, that's the whole point behind them. So you get in a point where there's no place to go. Screwed. Yeah. Bad. Bad and all they got to do is take a bite. Yeah. All I got to do is take a bite.
Starting point is 00:20:19 That was a good scene. Yeah, I didn't. Like I said, they did some things better in this episode. And the orchestration and framing or the way they org, the way Strand orchestrated the attack, you know, the bomb on the, on the tanker truck was just so good. Yes. I mean, I just liked it. I mean, it was just.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Yes. There was actually some depth and some intrig going on, you know, that it wasn't stupid was just cool. Yeah. And it fit his character. And then it made you think towards the future. It's like, ah, you know, he's back in it. You know, he's back in town. Now there's some opportunity to, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:20:49 because Victor's not going to be hanging at the ranch, though. You don't think so? You don't think he'll stay there? I don't know. The ranch is, I mean, I just don't see. I guess there's no Vegas anymore, but he does, you know, there's no downtown L.A. for Victor to hang out in, but he just is not the ranch guy.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Yeah, I just don't know if he's got any options. I don't know where else are going to go. I know. I mean, I think he's figured out they doesn't want to be south of the border anymore because. Yeah. I mean, that just didn't work out well for him at all, no matter where he went. So, I don't know. I kind of got the impression that he's just going to stick with Madison in the game.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Like he thinks that's, you know. Place to be. Yeah, his best shot. Yeah, especially if he gets back and he gets back with the son. Because he really liked the, what's his face? Madison. Yeah, Nick. Yeah, because Nick was turned into a little crazy badass.
Starting point is 00:21:44 Yeah, I'm having a hard time. So you mentioned where we go. I don't know where. I'm kind of confused. So this next episode, yeah. I don't know where they're going to take that. Like, because Nick was starting to be like a leadership role,
Starting point is 00:21:57 but I guess that's probably going to change when Madison gets back, right? Right. And where's the, where was the young kid? What's the, what's his name? One of the two brothers, but the not so crazy one. Right. Whatever his name is. He's still sick with anthrax, right?
Starting point is 00:22:14 No, I don't think so, is he? No, no, no, he's... And he was still coughing and hacking the last couple episodes. Okay, but I don't remember him at all in this... No, he wasn't. He wasn't in this last one, but I don't remember him in the second half of the first one either. Yeah, because he was still trying to feel better, right? She was still nursing his little butt back to health.
Starting point is 00:22:36 Okay. From anthrax. All right, so I don't know what's now. So he might not make it. That might be his way out, right? He might die from that. And then the other brother, the crazy brother. Yeah, Spoon eye.
Starting point is 00:22:46 Spoon eye. He's got to come back to cause some problems. Absolutely. That's just going to happen. Absolutely. So. But then maybe he and Nick will realize that they're in love and run off with each other. And we'd all be better off.
Starting point is 00:23:01 Yeah. I think that just the way they're writing the Walker character, like I said, I just think he's too black and white. And I don't think he's going to survive. But the way they're setting up Ophelia, how he was like, she's a great hero to us. Yeah. And how she was liaison, or dealing with Walker's Second Command. Yeah. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:23:21 Maybe I'm crazy, but I think that maybe not as early as next episode, but definitely in the next couple, they're going to start transitioning her into more of a leadership role. Good. Yeah. Good. I mean, and she's, look, that's what has to happen, right? We all like Daniel. They realize that.
Starting point is 00:23:37 If they didn't, they should have. And we pointed it out a number of times. So they brought him back. They found a way to bring him back. smart move thank you because the way they left it they could have left him gone
Starting point is 00:23:49 remember we talked about it and it was like not a kid there's no way because he's too good of a character and every other character that we've liked they've gotten rid of yeah so now they've maybe realized that you know maybe if the fans are starting
Starting point is 00:24:05 to like a guy or a girl maybe we should keep them what do you think is that a good plan I mean, you should probably hang on to what little good there is of this show. No kidding. So, and this also is, remember, this is just between you and me. All right, this is just filler before the walking down.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Right. Okay. Yeah. So, I mean, let's be honest. Right. I mean, this is, and I'll go even one step further. This is just filler in between walking down. Dead previews every Sunday.
Starting point is 00:24:47 You've been listening to Talking Fear on the Blaze Radio Network with Jeff Fisher and Jason Buttrill. See you next week. Good day.
