On Demand.
The Walking Dead, you're listening to Talking Fear on the Blaze Radio Network.
Last night, we watched Season 3, Episode 12, Brothers Keeper.
We'll dig a little bit deeper into that episode after we get our mind right with the real Walking Dead music.
See how that does for you?
Hey-yo.
Jason Betrell, Jeff Fisher, welcome to Talking Fear.
So, Brothers Keeper, Fear, Fear, the Walking Dead.
First, a couple things to get off my chest.
I was so, for some reason, my cable company had me on East Coast time last night.
You had me all messed up.
It was the weirdest thing because I, we're at Central Time.
We're in Dallas, right?
The show starts at 8.
And so when, you know, at 755, I tune in and they've got Twister on the movie.
And I think, holy crap.
They canceled.
Fear has gotten so bad.
Fear has gotten so bad that the network isn't even rerunning the week before his show before the new one, right?
Because they always run the previous week's show before the new one.
And I thought, wow, Twister is better than the rerun of last week's show.
How bad is this show got?
And then last week's show comes on.
And I'm like, what the heck?
You had me all confused.
man.
And they're advertising the new, and then I, then I knew for sure what was going to happen is that
at 9 o'clock, Central, they were going to go, oh, shoot, we're on East Coast time and go
back to Central, and I'd have to watch Talking Dead, talking about the latest episode that just
aired, which I didn't see.
But they didn't do it.
They kept it on East Coast time.
So are you, is it fixed now?
I have no idea.
I didn't look.
I watched, I watched, I watched fear and that, uh, that I didn't do.
it was time to move on.
Well, I was watching Star Trek at the time
because that was like the first episode.
And that also had Homegirl in it.
That's actually the reason why I wanted to watch it.
I used to be a big Trekkie, but I wanted to watch it because she was in it.
And so I almost missed this episode.
But then when you reminded me, I switched over.
And oh my God, I'm glad that I watched it
because best episode of the season, bar none.
Bar none.
Don't look at me that way.
I'll stop for just a second.
Before I let you continue with that.
You were on Central Time, though?
Yeah, I was.
Right?
Your cable company was on Central Time.
Yep.
So when I said this is this last week's show,
you were watching the new one.
Yeah.
Right?
Or did you just watch a DVR?
No, no, it was, yeah, I was watching DVR.
Okay.
All right, well, then we're not sure if you were watching
actual East Coast time show or not.
Well, it was on it at the right time because I double-checked.
I looked over at the guide when it popped on and it was recording.
Either way.
Either way.
So let's repeat what you just said.
Boy am I glad I did because.
Oh my God.
Best episode of the season, bar none.
Direct quote.
What, did you not think so?
I thought that it was, I wanted a little bit more.
The bar is low.
Granted.
Yeah, it is.
But this raised the bar, I think, in my opinion, for this show.
I mean, come on.
We had a hordes of walkers.
I did like the hordes.
I did like the hordes.
We had the, we had, I was, we found out that they weren't quite as smart as they thought they were.
It was kind of a little, some piss poor planning on the, on the Winnebago Walker wall.
Yeah.
And what an, what an idiot, uh, Troy was.
He was wasting those like explosives when all he needed was a clicker to put out there.
Right.
He just needed a key fob.
That's all he needed.
Yeah.
Key fobob, a bunch of key fobs and throw them out there.
They would have followed them over like ET and recent pieces.
No, they knew that, which is what I mean by planning.
They knew that they needed to redirect the horde.
And they were hoping that just they would just run into the Winnebago's and they would go
another direction.
That's not what walkers do.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
So, I mean, why didn't we, we at least should have had a car honking, driving away, right?
So it would have at least made some of the horde move.
And you got no early warning systems in place.
Like you don't have scouts out there watching the roads or anything.
I mean, it was just like all of a sudden they were on them.
Right.
And they couldn't do anything about it.
Yeah, that was really weird.
Yeah, whatever.
It's really weird.
But who cares?
Screw it.
And I want to be sure that this was, this also all took place at the same time that they, that they were at the dam getting water.
Oh, yeah.
Is that what the deal is?
Because, I mean, how long would it take them to get back from the dam?
You're right.
I didn't even think about that.
Yeah, I guess they went back in time, must have.
They would have had to, right?
Because it was, seriously, I mean, they were on their way back, right?
They left, we left the last episode on their way back.
Yeah.
And then all of this took place.
So it had to be, I guess we're supposed to believe that it happened at the same time.
Yep, yeah.
You're totally right.
So when they come back, they're going to be the ones that are going to be able to redirect the walkers away from the bunker and save them.
I guess.
I don't know how they're going to pull it off.
Well, because what's his face?
who's the black guy?
Strand.
He's got a pocket full of key fobs.
He's like, I know what we can do.
Oh my God, the Thousand Walkers, what do we do?
That's what Strand did at the junkyard was deep pocket key fobs.
He's like, don't worry about it.
I got it.
I got you.
So we go back to that again.
I actually laughed because I was sitting there watching it.
And I'm sorry.
There's no way that there's just no way
the giant truck makes more noise than the keyfob.
It's so funny.
I know we're re-hashing the episode.
And the live humans walking or talking inside and everything.
He just gave me a hilarious event for next week.
Stran's like,
don't worry about it.
Just climbs to the top of the far like a furthest away hill.
It just kind of holds, you know,
like that's a drop the mic only just drops the clicker and runs off.
Like, oh, let's go over there.
And the Horde of Walkers go to the Keefe.
They're walking aimlessly up there.
I think that is the title of the next week's episode, Kifah.
Keefob.
Oh, shoot.
Okay.
So, you know, it was, I don't know if I can go with as good episode as you.
As of the season.
You can think of a better episode this season.
I don't know.
Wasn't there one or two in the first half that were really, really, really good?
I think so.
They had the Salazar one all in Spanish.
That was really good.
It was good.
I liked that one.
But even still,
I wouldn't put it.
I mean,
everything that we like about this type of show was in this episode.
That's true.
Was in this last episode. That's a good point.
All right.
So I'll give it to you.
We've been complaining the entire time.
They show us more walkers.
You know,
this is not what we want.
You know,
they haven't been showing it.
So finally.
Finally,
they showed it.
And really,
I mean,
did they from the,
well,
from the get go,
you got,
well,
okay,
so it started off of Troy.
and he was scavenging and he was going around, you know, looking around.
He was a snake, Mr. Big Guy, going through the, but he wasn't gone gone very far.
He was still at the Indian house.
Yeah.
And he found that, he found that, that gun inside the wall there.
I was like, how the hell did he find that out?
Does he, was that someone that they knew?
It might have been, or I think that he just realized that, uh, in searching that,
uh, that's someplace that people would have put stuff, you know, behind the God protects
those who protect themselves
or whatever the note was
and that's where
you know he would think that he would put stuff
I guess
hide stuff I mean that's the only thing I got out of that
maybe he knew him I mean because maybe he did
I just don't remember the backstory of
that whoever owned that little farm
so I couldn't remember if he was a part of them or what
but and then he you know then he went up into the
you think as I was thinking that if I'm him
why why am I not sleeping up in the loft
yeah he's sleeping outside
by a pit fire yeah yeah
I mean, I get maybe the pit fire keeps you a little bit warm, maybe.
But if you wanted to actually get some sleep, I mean, you had the ladder go up that
had a lock on it.
It had the gate on it so you couldn't climb up without opening it.
I mean, that was a walker safe haven up in that loft.
And what was that food that he found up there?
Some kind of tuna or something, right?
I was like, it's either tuna or cat food.
And I couldn't tell.
So I was like, I'm just going to go.
Oh, that's good.
I didn't think about animal food.
It didn't have a wrap.
Yeah.
I guess it could have been animal food, but I took it.
I figured it was like, you know, the chicken or tuna in a can like that.
But it absolutely, now I'm going to have to go back and see if it was actually cat food or something.
Because it might have been.
It was in the barn up in the loft there in the bucket.
It darn well could have been cat food.
So, and then the, but, you know, I'm eating it.
He had seen some, he grilled himself a snake.
I know.
The scene before that.
Troy's doing all right for himself.
I know.
No worries.
You're right.
And the canned goods should have been put on hold.
Right.
Because I don't know how, we don't know how long he'd been out there, though,
because they just started it with him cooking the snake, right?
So then he's scavenging the houses for food.
So I guess you get a little hungry.
Snake, no matter how big the snake is, there's not a lot of meat on that bad boy.
Ooh, that's what she said, joke somewhere in there.
Go back to the episode.
Brothers Keeper.
Are we seriously?
Okay, so you knew the brothers, Troy and Jake.
Jake.
They're fighting and he gets bit by the Walker.
So we're going to cut off his arm.
He was smart thinking there.
Nick was smart thinking, and so was Troy about how fast does it go.
But immediately I thought he didn't cut it high enough.
He didn't cut it high enough because they cut it right at the bite.
Yeah.
I mean, they should have, that should have been shoulder high, baby.
No, so, see, I didn't get it.
So are they saying that they didn't catch it in time or they didn't cut it in time?
Or was it, he literally, he just died because of loss of blood?
They didn't really quite explain that.
He turned into a walker.
So did he die first from, I don't know.
That's why I didn't know.
I didn't get that either.
I don't know why I was obsessing over that.
But I was just like, I just kind of wanted to know because they made the deal of how long it takes.
Yeah.
Well, I kind of took it.
And that's a good point because I don't know.
They didn't show him dead, right?
They just showed him turning into a walker as he's laying there.
But they did say in the car, he was like,
he's losing bloods.
We got to get him back to, you know, the ranch so he can get treated because he was losing blood or something like that.
So maybe he died.
I think he died.
He died and then turned into a walker.
He didn't die because of the cut, which will lead to Nick being able to cut somebody else's limb off in the future.
As long as he knows he can stop the bleeding.
Right, right.
They'll live.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So that's true.
But when,
so now we have.
I didn't expect that though, by the way.
I didn't not expect for him to die.
No, I didn't either.
I was surprised.
I thought he was going to hang around for a little bit.
I know.
Because now we've brought Troy back, right?
Crazy Troy back who brought the hoard on and then I was going to try to get them out of it with Nick.
I think it's time that we just admit that Nick and Troy need to be a couple.
Yeah.
I mean, I'm really, I'm really tired of the pretending.
Yeah, when I knew it was going to be him sneaking into the room, I was like, this is, he's so sweet.
He's just going to jump into bed with him.
I thought so, too, they were just going to hug each other.
Spoon for a bit.
Do you remember the scene in Brokeback Mountain when they finally saw each other and they hadn't seen each other in forever?
And they just couldn't help themselves hug and kiss each other.
That's the scene I wanted.
I did not watch that movie.
What?
No, I didn't watch it.
Broke back.
Are you from America?
What?
Are you from America?
Why did you want?
It broke back Mountain.
He's Ledger.
It's a classic.
You know, it's, yeah.
Wasn't my bag.
Wow.
Can I quote you on that?
Sure.
And Nick saves him from the bit.
I wasn't to just kill him.
I'm, I don't know.
I just got frustrated with some of their train of thought.
Wait, Nick saved Troy, did he?
Yeah, well, I mean, they were all fighting there, and Nick saves the, Nick saves the brother, right?
Nick's, Nick saves the brother.
Troy is still alive.
They've been fighting together.
So, I mean, yeah, I'm pretty sure.
I guess Nick's the one that's the new savior of all time, right?
He's the man.
Yeah, I guess.
You know, when they, when they went back towards the, the Walker fight over at the ranch.
And they sat up on the mountain and watched everybody get attacked without doing anything.
Right.
Doing nothing.
I mean, you could have shot a gun off or something, you know, like honk the horn, you know, something like that.
That probably, especially now.
Trying to lead the horde back to somewhere else.
That's what was my point.
I didn't understand that.
I mean, but I guess they could do that next episode.
Like, that's really all they have to do because there's, you know, they're all stuck down in the cellar.
All they have to do is just drive away honking the horn.
That would probably do it.
I think we've actually seen that in Walking Dead.
Isn't that how they got the, that's how they got everybody away from the quarry or whatever?
That was another one of my favorite episodes, that one.
But during the most stressful parts of that episode when they were fighting over by the Winnebago's,
I still did not give a crap if any of them died.
That one.
I was really into the fight, you know.
But it's like if that fight would have been happening on the Walking Dead, I'd have been like,
oh, crap, you know, oh, no.
I found myself wanting, I found myself, I guess, wanting, I thought, oh, crap, they're going to kill Daniel's daughter.
I thought she was going to die
in that fight.
Ophelia.
Right?
Because I thought,
oh, they're bringing dead.
They made Daniel feel good
about her being alive.
He's going to finally,
he's going to show up,
and then they're going to say,
well, she's dead.
Yeah.
And he's going to think that they lied to her all along
just to get the water.
Yeah.
Instead of,
no,
she just died.
And she,
and the way she was acting in this episode,
though,
didn't she have, like,
one,
didn't she have,
like,
one conversation with that other dude,
that other leader,
where she's all, you know, I make them trust me
and all that stuff.
I'm like, she's acting so douchey.
I know.
I know.
I mean, I don't know.
She has so much potential, you know,
as a young Salazar.
But I just have a hard time.
I don't know.
I guess it's this group that she's with.
But I just, maybe it's just the entire storyline
of Cowboys versus Indians.
And I wanted, I wanted, since I had to watch,
I was forced to watch the entire last week's episode.
I wanted Matt,
to run Walker over one more time when they picked him up at the side of the road with the truck
full of water.
He's walking along the highway.
Just ding him.
Get it over with.
Yeah,
now he's dead.
Quick little sideswise.
Just ding him.
Back up.
Tell Strand, listen, put your seatbelt out for a second.
Just ding him.
I still don't think.
I think that he is going, I don't think he's going to live.
And I think that, I think the new leader will be probably.
I believe of that group at least of that group yeah and then you have a nick and daughter and
and Madison you have the Madison family who you don't have to be in charge because they're
family and which in Madison's going nowhere so you know she's going she's the rick so you know she's
going nowhere so I they keep ramming her down our throats that's for sure I don't I really don't
know what that means for the rest of the kids I don't know the only thing left to do is
maybe we bring back the dad.
He didn't die.
Oh, wait.
Has someone on this podcast been saying that all along?
I know.
I know.
Right?
I mean,
that's the only thing left is to bring him back.
Yep.
And they left it open,
just like they did with Daniel.
They brought Daniel back and it's helped save the show.
Yep.
I mean,
it most definitely helped save the show.
And so what's left for Daniel,
he's going to show.
show up, he's got to show up, right? Because the dam is going to, they're going to lose the dam.
Watch your face is going to lose the dam.
So this show can get, they can improve themselves 80% if they continue to do stuff that they
did last night, which I don't think they have the budget to pull that off. So they probably
can't do that. They can probably pull off one episode like that a season or something like that
or every have to be able to do more than that, right? You would hope so. But they don't, so it just
makes me think that they just really don't have the budget for massive amounts of walkers
and stuff.
So I think that if we had more episodes like that, and then we had Salazar, Strand, actual
complex characters, you know what I mean?
They're interesting.
Yes.
And they're more involved than this show, like I said, 80% improvement.
It can.
But the people that they have driving the show now, Madison.
Cannot hold.
All her kids.
Yeah, cannot hold.
No.
No.
Just can't.
hold.
They just can't.
No.
And what's her face is going to be all thinking she's badass because Troy's dead, or not
Troy's dead, but Jake is dead.
Right?
So she's devastated.
They had that other, they had that conversation in the house how she didn't want
to give in her feelings, but the last minute she ran out and was like, no.
I declare, I do love him, you know, or something like that.
Right.
That's so sad.
You could tell they were setting him up for something bad.
The moment that happened.
I was like, okay.
Yes.
He's going to die.
Yeah, that should have been the stamp.
And it was.
It was.
I should have seen that stamp, though.
And so next week we've got, we've got, they'll come back from the dam, save the walkers, get rid of the walkers.
They'll kill a few who dies.
Maybe Walker.
Maybe Walker dies in the fight to save the ranch from the walkers.
Possibly Walker, possibly even his lieutenant.
That one dude.
He could go.
I don't care about him.
I don't like him.
I don't either.
But I think they're trying to set Ophelia up to take it.
So it could be both of them, which would be kind of cool.
So.
Well, it didn't, oh, no, that was the other guy.
Because Ophelia, or not Ophelia, but What's Her Face killed the one Indian leader.
The guy that was giving the second in command who Ophelia was talking to at the picnic tables,
who she was saying, hey, he was saying, but that guy's in charge.
Yeah.
He died, right?
That's who What's her face shot at the end.
in the Walker fight in the Winnebago War, right?
Because he went to shoot himself and did was out of bullets.
And so she added it for him.
Oh, no, no, no.
He was not on the Indian side.
He was on the ranch side.
He was like one of the main militia guys.
Yeah, that big dude.
Okay.
He was one of the main militia guys.
Okay.
Yeah.
I was thinking, but it doesn't matter.
Okay, so all right, you're sure about that?
Pretty sure.
Look at that.
Pretty sure.
But I still think that all, regardless, I think all of the leadership is going to get knocked out eventually to where Ophelia is taken over.
So that either happens.
It could be just Walker dies in this, in this rescue operation.
And then Ophelia and this other guy and she just takes over for that guy.
Since I'm taking over.
Something like that.
So then Daniel shows up and Ophelia is in charge.
See, that's going to be good.
That should be good.
Yeah.
That's be good.
because Daniel will be like, okay, well.
And especially if they have to lead an armed assault against the dam.
So that will pit Ophelia against Daniel.
That's going to happen.
That's going to happen.
You watch.
I like that.
I like the armed assault against the dam with Daniel because Daniel will have to choose sides.
Yeah.
He'll choose his daughter.
Yes.
Right?
In the end, he will.
Because, you know, he didn't.
I couldn't believe how, again, we talked about it last week,
but it was frustrating how easy.
he went against Madison
with the water
there at the beginning.
You know,
when she,
I've got nothing for you,
shut up.
Shut up.
Shut up.
We're back in a truck
up and taking some.
Otherwise,
we're going to open this gate
and they're going to run this place over.
You know,
the other option is,
is that it's so devastated
because the walkers took out
the entire camp
that they just now have to turn,
just completely abandon that
and turn tell and go to the dam.
Go to the dam.
That's the other possibility.
Which is possible
and either get turned
away, but Daniel's not going to turn his daughter away.
So he's going to say, we're going to put him to work, and they can help us survive.
Yeah.
And then they're going to have to get rid of the damn lady's little skinny, agonizing helper
that doesn't want to do anything, you know, her little right-hand man.
So we've got to get rid of him, and then Daniel and a few you can take over the name.
Yeah.
I think we got it.
I like that.
I like that.
I think we got it.
All right.
You're listening to Talking Fear.
Jeff Fisher, Jason Buttrill.
See you next week.
