Season 8, episode 9, honor Sunday, February 25th.
That makes this the pre-mid-season premiere Talking Walking Dead.
With myself, Jeff Fisher, Brad Staggs, Jason Butchrell, and Maximus Fisher.
Welcome to it.
You know, we might as well set the mood.
While we set the mood, we can tell you that by the end of this podcast,
you'll know whether Carl is going to live.
or die.
Wow.
We will know.
All right.
Welcome to it.
Talking Walking Dead.
Jason.
Favorite happening from the first half of season eight.
Favorite happening.
Yeah, it could be, you know, disappointing, surprised, happy from the first half of season eight, something that, you know, you went, wow, that stinks or that makes me happy.
Okay.
So I'm torn on even commenting because I love the show so.
dearly so close to my heart but i did not enjoy last season all that much really i i i i like
some of the he has a future in politics if you noticed that he's not answered he's going to do a
politician answer let me tell you what i think about no so so let me explain so i like i liked all
the action stuff and and and all that it was just like remember in the first half it was like we
didn't really know what was going on yeah it's like i i was a plan where we talked about we talked about it
of this podcast that, you know, we would wish that they would have at least showed us what the plan was.
Right. So I guess it's not accurate for me to say that I didn't like it. I was just,
I was just expecting a little bit more because this was so built up. We really wanted to see Rick and the gang,
you know, do this and take it to, you know, Negan. I just wish they would have like maybe,
I guess, clued us in a little bit more to the plan so that we would have known and been able to follow.
And there was like stupid stuff that happened, you know, like the, like Rick going to the garbage people and then the, and then the garbage.
people just like they eventually
yeah they eventually came back
over but then all of a sudden
that they ran went away yeah yeah
it seems so pointless it just ran
but I mean we got to
see naked garbage people
doing ironwork right
I was true I think ever gonna pay
girls hot too though I'm on record
I'm on record as saying that
are they ever going to explain
why they do naked sculpture
what's they never going to explain why they do
naked sculpture are they
I don't think just all they do is they're naked and they
wear leather aprons.
You know, I wish they would actually.
Technically, that means I wouldn't
be naked if they're wearing a leather.
We got a freaking Morgan episode.
Could we please get an episode
on her just doing naked sculptures?
And now, Jada sculpts.
You wouldn't even need any dialogue.
You just took a shot of her naked sculpting.
Pre-walker disease, Jadis,
that big pony.
Do you, okay.
Here's my question.
Do you think the scavengers will die during the season?
Have you not explained to Max that everybody eventually dies?
Everybody eventually dies.
We are.
Plus, we also found out that we're breaking away quite dramatically from the comic books.
Or are we?
Well, no, we are.
Well.
Or are we?
I know.
It appears that we're breaking away quite dramatically from the comic books.
And one of the reasons that I brought you around, Max, is because you know the comic books.
If we're going to break away from the comic books, you're done.
You're going back to work on the chain gang, pal.
Your mom needs help with the house.
Digging ditches.
My favorite, you remember that scene where Carol was sitting on the couch reading.
That was my favorite.
I mean, that was my highlight.
Where she was sitting on the couch reading.
Yeah, she was reading a book.
Oh, actually, can I piggyback off that and say,
see?
Carol has to do with actually, I don't want to be all negative.
My favorite scene had to do with Carol.
And it was remember when she was like,
like it was one of those episodes it was a little less discombobulated and you actually knew what was going on and she was like hiding up in the rafter
oh in the scene where taking people out the kingdom master she looked like a total bad a in the
kingdom massacre yes the kingdom master and that was good so that's sorry you know what no that's quite all right
but remember no matter what happens it still hasn't reached the lows of fear the walking dead that that is
that it hasn't we can look at too a little bit of that they're hoping for better maximus honestly i really loved the
fight between Rick and Negan in the house. That was just me. I loved that fight. Okay.
Let's go back to when you first talked about that, because you were disappointed that he
didn't knock him out. They didn't, they didn't just kill each other. I remember after the day
after that fight, you were disappointed in that fight. See how, see how memories. And we're talking about
being able to hear the actual nose break. You could hear, you could hear Jeffrey Dean Morgan's
nose break when, uh, when Rick punched him. Yeah. I was disappointed. I wanted a little bit more
get down. I did too on that. It couldn't.
It felt like we were given the shock and awe treatment of it's going to be shock and awe, but no.
They had other things to shoot that day.
They needed to get through the scene quick.
But I'm wondering is in the fight later in the series that happens in the comics is Jeffrey Dean Morgan going to actually break Andrew Lincoln's leg?
He does that in the comics?
Yep.
Side note.
I've been watching Star Trek Enterprise.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is in an episode of Star Trek Enterprise, but totally wearing a mask so you wouldn't even know it's him.
Seriously?
This back, what,
2002?
Yeah, he's been in other stuff.
Yeah, but it's kind of funny to see him,
but in a mask,
you don't even know it's him.
That's not the new one?
That's not the new one?
No, it's the old one.
It's been like 17 years ago.
I just, we'll sidding up.
Okay.
Carry on.
He's in a bunch of other stuff, too.
Yeah, but he's not like that.
I don't know if you know this,
but he's an actor.
He's an actor.
Wait, what?
what?
Oh, okay, so we also, so we have Carl, we have Carl being bitten.
Wait, wait, wait, you didn't say what yours was?
Yeah, what was your favorite?
I think the first half, the whole thing, I was my favorite part.
I think I'm more on the disappointing side with you, Jason.
I expected a lot more.
I expected a lot more.
It would have been so much better if standalone,
Leave everything the way it is, except we get one five-minute episode or five-minute piece of them letting us know what their plan is.
Okay.
Leave everything the same way as it is.
Just give us a scene where they're inside Alexandria and they have, you know, a glass as a car.
And this is the road leading up to Negan's place.
Just so we have an idea of what they're going to do.
and then they just then just go do what they did already i really felt that because that made it seem
more disjointed not knowing what they were i totally agree and it's not to say i i i still enjoyed
watching it you know what i mean like watching all our crew going at it and everything i still
enjoyed watching it i was just like expecting more i guess i am kind of getting tired of uh the
the amc uh dribble that everybody we all have to have
gay characters and we all have to be you know i i know they're in the comics too they shoved the stuff
down your throat i know but it just seems like it why i mean the only i mean right now the only
couple of gay characters we have right now are the some of the people from osseyside jesus and
aaron what oh what they're yeah that's the lg b qia island they've never said that i just want to
I said some.
That you guys are stereotyping.
I'm not stereotyping.
Just because a bunch of women lived together in a community.
That does not make them lesbians.
It's been proven from episodes.
Some of the Oceanside girls are or gay.
It didn't say all of them are.
I said some.
It's just so much hate in one room.
No, but you're sorry.
It's so forced.
That's the problem I have.
In everything.
I was just reading about the new,
you know how politicized the new Black Panther movie is.
It's like it's everywhere.
They are so politicizing the heck out of that.
And then the last article I saw was, oh, yeah, you know, there's huge, you know, huge, you know, for the black community and everything.
But then, you know, there was not a single gay person.
Yeah, well, they made a big, yeah, they said they missed a huge, a huge, I said, Marvel missed another huge opportunity for the LGBTQ.
Yeah, come on.
I saw.
He's the thing I like the Marvel movies.
And Black Panther looks like a good movie.
How do we know?
Okay.
That there haven't been gay walkers.
Oh, God.
Do we know that we haven't seen gay walkers?
That's all I'm saying.
How do you know that we have?
How do you know any of them?
We could have seen a thousand of them.
How do you know any of them are hetero?
Exactly.
It could have been all of the walkers that we've seen so far.
They all could be gay.
Of walkers having them.
They all could be gay.
One thing we can look forward to in this next half is they're promoting that we're going to finally have a nude walker.
Oh, yeah.
So when did you want you're going to tell us?
Wait a minute.
When were you going to tell us?
All of you necrophiliacs.
And it's me.
Check, please.
I can't say that it's me.
Speaking of the gay thing.
If it is me, I won't be able to tell you.
That's just part of the deal.
Here's the gay thing.
With the Jesus at least, I don't think it's forced with Jesus.
That's just me.
Maybe with the others a little bit.
But in my opinion, Jesus' character is not forced.
What about you guys?
I'm just so sensitive now because it's like they feel like they have to insert it into everywhere,
every show, everything, every song, everything.
Wow.
That's for sure.
I have no issue.
I have no issue with the LGBT elemental pQ movement, but I just, it feels like it's forced.
No.
I feel like I'm talking to myself over here.
And on top of that, on top of that, like, okay, so let's talk a little bit about,
it being forced.
Stop it, why?
That'll be the new, that'll be me.
I just, every time I hear something.
You're off this podcast.
Is that all I got to do to get out of here?
Why didn't you tell me that before?
I could have made bells out of the rhyme.
You know, and even if, I think one of the things that I struggle with
is that we're being forced with the Rick character to be with Michelle.
Oh, that's insane.
So on top of that, I have that being forced out my throat.
And so it makes the others seem even more forced.
You know, the other characters that are now supposed to be gay.
I don't have a problem with them being gay.
I don't care.
I don't care.
That's a signal for like if they keep on, if they do keep radically diverging away from how the canon is, how the comics are.
Like, they've got a good format.
Just stick to it.
And people loved it.
But like the Michone and Rick thing shouldn't have happened.
It didn't happen.
And now we're picking up on it.
That's why it feels forced.
It's Lori.
In the comics, it's Laura.
Andrea.
Andrea.
Laurie's dead.
He's dead.
Sorry.
So like three seasons ago.
Right.
Barely remember.
Yeah, but there are, there are a lot.
And Max knows a lot more about this than I do.
But there's a lot of, there's so many divergences.
Like, isn't he still seeing Lori's ghost at this point in the comics?
No.
Doesn't he carry around the telephone?
No.
He doesn't carry it in the comics anymore.
No, no, no, at this point when he's still fighting with Nagan.
Oh, in the, no, he doesn't, he not while he's fighting with Negan, no, he does not.
That's he's past that already.
During all that war?
During all that war, he is not picking up the phone.
Wow.
I just read that he was, that that was one of the big gripes that he still has reminsies.
He still, every once in a while, sees the Lori Ghost.
He hasn't.
That would be totally understandable, though.
He hasn't done it in a while in the comics.
Does he still have the phone, though?
that I don't know if he still has the phone
I don't know if he still has it
but I haven't but we haven't
seen him pick it up in like forever
okay
now we do know that
we had some interesting
you know offseason fights between
Carl's dad and
and the showrunners
and Carl coming back with his dad
posting a Facebook post
about how bad they were to him
and Carl saying let you know lighten up
and they deleted all of that
and we also
have lawsuits going on
here in the midseason.
The Frank Derbott lawsuit
wants money. He wants big money.
Who's that? The family.
One of the big writers.
The original writers, guys. He developed it.
The stuntman's
mom is suing for wrongful death.
A big time lawsuit there.
And Lauren Cohen
has not signed her
season nine deal.
Oh, she's got, and she's going on another show?
And she's, yes, and she's doing another show.
But she's doing a pilot for another show for ABC.
But she hasn't signed season nine deal.
And I would say, bye.
Wow.
That would be huge, right, Max?
Which ones?
Maggie's all the way through.
She's still alive, right?
Maggie's still alive in the comics, yeah.
She's still running.
We could still possibly have a Maggie, right?
I mean, we could get rid of Lauren Cohen,
and maybe we write the character gets burned or, you know, her and her and the baby.
Come on.
She's back, scarred up.
She's still being alive, but all scarred up.
That way they can hire anybody.
And she just sits in the corner, all scarred up going, no, because she's a.
This is total soap opera rules.
Absolutely.
They don't want to get rid of the character, but they lose the actor.
And they're like, oh, he's the same guy.
He just had a, they can't get a space reconstruction.
She's been in a coma.
She's been in a coma for.
Eight years.
Eight years.
They can't.
Well, not exactly.
She was in the CIA,
so they had to change her.
Exactly.
Her parents are.
They can't get rid of Baggie.
They just can't.
That's what I.
They can get rid of Carl.
I was about saying.
Oh, they can get rid of anybody.
That's true.
That's true.
That's true.
And on the whole Chandler Riggs' dad being very indignant,
that I thought was a little too convenient.
I did too.
Which leads me to believe.
It's all show.
And again, at the end of this podcast,
in Jeff Fisher's words,
you will know whether or not Carl died.
We do know that, you know, Morgan, this is his last season, right?
He's already filming for fear.
So we've gotten rid of him, which is very sad.
I don't think he's going to die.
I think he'll disappear again,
and then after he's done filming fear, he'll come back.
But I don't understand.
I really don't how they're going to make it work for fear.
I've read some articles, and he claims that, you know,
they're going to try to go back.
They're going to loop it?
But we've already seen Morgan from day one almost.
Yeah.
I mean, we know his life, right?
He was with his son and his daughter.
His wife was walking around the streets.
His wife was the first one we saw try to open the door.
You can't go back.
I don't see how to go back.
I don't know.
I don't know.
It's going to go before Atlanta.
What?
I don't know.
Alternate timeline.
Alternate timeline.
I mean, really, it's going to have to be almost that, right?
And look, he's going to save fear.
at least this season he'll save fear no question just the curiosity factor absolutely
well we know like i've seen some of the footage that they've been showing for previews
has been heavy heavy morgan like one of them was like like it but and it's kind of shows you a hint
on maybe how they start he will he will not be in the first episode or two either because
everybody will think he's going to be and they'll tune into watch and then he won't be uh you'll see
his hand yeah oh you mean on fear yes but um but on this uh on next week's episode
I bet they come right out of the gate with it
because it looks like they're going to go back in time again.
And that was one of the things that I kind of,
I was kind of complaining about it.
It never showed when the Savior's actually broke out.
But then the footage shows Morgan
still with the sniper rifle on his back
and trying to get out of that warehouse,
but it looks like.
So I'm wondering if they're going back to that moment.
They might.
Did we ever see Morgan the first half of last season,
or this season?
After that point?
Yeah, we've seen.
Yeah, we saw him run off.
off in the forest after he was like I'm done with this right oh yeah because he was pissed
that was that killed them all okay yeah he wanted to kill them all and Jesus was saying no
remember because Jesus wanted to bring them all back which is a huge mistake and it's going to
prove that it was a terrible mistake by bringing them back that was it was a bad move everyone
agrees just killed the long hair guy everyone yes well they should just kill them all I mean
when you're in war look I mean that's another weird thing of last Geneva Convention rules don't
exist then.
Nope.
You know, look, everything's white clean.
None of us likes to talk about our military career, Jason.
You know that as well as I do.
But.
How dare you?
I mean, come on.
When you're in war like that, I mean, you're going to, it's time to get rid of them all now.
And then we revisit.
Right.
I mean, I'm sorry.
If you're fighting us, you, you deserve to die.
So all those refugees are still at Hilltop.
Right?
Wasn't that one of the weird things about last season?
Is they never actually stepped inside hilltop?
And they brought it into the cage, right?
That little cage.
Yeah.
And she threw, uh, what's his face in there?
Gregory.
Yeah, Gregory.
Yeah.
In the hilltop.
And they, and she killed, they killed the one guy.
They killed the wrong guy.
Yeah.
From, uh, from the saviors, right?
They didn't kill the wrong guy.
He was a real.
Well, but they killed, they killed the guy that was, oh, she should have killed the other guy.
Yes.
Long-air guy.
Long-air guy.
They should have killed him.
I mean, but there was one guy who was okay in there.
He was just like when someone knocked.
He seems to be okay.
I know.
When someone knocked out, I think it was Maggie, when she knocked out the long-haired guy, he was just like, thank you.
Thank you.
Except that's always the kind of character that you think, oh, he's going to be a nice guy.
I know.
He turns out of fooom.
No, he's not a nice guy.
He just wants that guy gone.
Yes.
You're doing him a favor.
Yep.
Yeah, I know.
Always an agenda.
I am also, we can talk about Carl now if you want.
Okay.
I'm looking forward to this half of the season.
I really am.
I know that we've seen season nine.
I think we've even signed for season 10, right, already?
I don't know, maybe now, but for sure.
I mean, we still have tons of...
Season 9 is done.
That's in the works.
We still have tons of stuff to go off in the comics if they follow more of it,
even without Carl, if he dies.
Yeah, but by killing Carl, that all...
That throws off a lot of stuff, but...
All the rules are out the window, because...
if in fact he does die,
which some are saying he might not,
that possibly,
and this is just a theory,
that he wasn't bitten by a walker,
but by a whisperer.
Wearing a walker face,
which they always do, but right.
So, Max,
do they introduce whispers?
Does that overlay with the Savior battle at all?
That does it.
The whispers are introduced like two years
after the saviors have eaten.
Wow.
After the saviors are beaten.
So this would be a.
radical change in the time. Well, after
Negan is beaten and Dwight takes over them.
Right. Right, right, right. And we're
not there yet. So
Yeah, but they've got to collapse. And another
thing which I'm interested
about that theory is where the
Whisperer bit him, the thing is in the comics,
the Whispers don't bite people. They carry
around daggers. And then
when they have a chance and they see someone,
they walk with the walkers, and then
whenever they walk with someone
and then they go up to someone and stab them.
They don't bite.
maybe this one was different.
If in fact.
If in fact it was a crazy whisper.
Right.
Maybe he was drunk.
A drunk whisper.
I could see that if the writers of the show are just, you know, accelerating the timeline just to say like, okay, we need something that's going to keep the savior.
It's going to link the same or the team the saviors up with Rick's group.
Because garbage people aren't in the comics, right?
No, the scavengers are not in the comics.
You call them whatever you want.
The naked stuff.
The naked sculptors.
What? I'm calling them the name they were actually given.
The naked sculptors.
So I think.
I want to save my for that.
All right.
Well,
but the other theory on the other side of that coin is that he was bitten when he was helping what was a dude's name?
Yeah, Muslim boy.
Yeah.
And there's a shot on where he's laying on the ground.
You see the Walker's head disappear out of frame where it would be in that area and then pop back up.
So we never definitively saw the Walker bite him,
but we did see the opportunity for the Walker to bite him.
It's an interesting theory.
You saw, like, everybody in media now copies each other.
There's no original ideas hardly at all anymore,
especially in film and TV.
Just look at your work.
And just look at everything I do.
I've been drinking, sorry.
But I think that I would not be surprised if what they saw,
what happened with Game of Thrones,
and the John Snow, you know, like he died,
and then holding everybody to secrecy.
And then bringing him back the next season.
I haven't not watched Game of Thrones yet.
Spoiler alert.
I haven't even seen any show.
We can get to the episode where John Snow dies,
cry really a lot and just stop and let yourself work through it.
Yeah.
And then realize that he doesn't die.
The witch brings him.
Thanks.
But they could be doing Game of Thrones, John Snow.
And speaking of that.
by the way as we're taking a side note
Game of Thrones
backed us off another year
I'm so pissed I know
what is that
it's supposed to be this year
it's gonna be next year like April
of 28 of 2019
yeah yeah
last season right season 8 is their last one they're putting it off
it better be good I know
haven't they already shot it? They're shooting it right now
oh okay yeah it better be
freaking good. They might have delayed it for quality issues.
I mean, I hope so, but if it's been so good, why would they postpone it like that?
Yeah, I don't know.
Another quick side note before your theory.
Sasha, who is no longer obviously on The Walking Dead, now on Star Trek Discovery.
You need to stop and let go to the Star Trek.
She does a fabulous job, and she has a relationship with a...
Is he white? Is he brown?
Anyway, totally not forced.
Oh, really?
Yes.
Probably not forced.
It actually works.
They actually have chemistry.
Yes.
Unlike Michone and Rick.
What is wrong with Rick and Michaud?
Zero chemistry.
None zip zero.
It's cringe-worthy.
It's all their scenes.
It is.
It just doesn't work.
It's not there.
No.
And I know that they're, I get that it appears that they're trying to, you know, have it
be not cringe-worthy.
And when you talk to, when you hear some of the other,
walking dead people,
the show runners, and the other people in it.
Oh, the Rick Mishon, love
affair is so good. It's not.
It's not so good.
It's not good at all.
So what do you think about Carl, Maximus?
Liver die.
I honestly have no clue on this one.
I don't know.
Because if he was bitten by a worst borer
and they changed up the story,
okay, he survives.
But if he doesn't and he actually does die,
that would change up a ton of
stuff from the source material.
Yeah.
Because in the comics after the war,
Carl loses, he
doesn't wear the hat anymore.
He's pretty much given up the
eye patch. I'm pretty sure that they forbid him from wearing
the hat on the show. He's pretty
much given up the eye patch.
He's become a blacksmith.
He's made his own sword
and he wears kingdom armor
and he's a really good fighter with that
dang sword. Nice.
Jason. I think he's dead.
I do. I think that
they're grasping at straws to try and try and try and stay ahead and bring in and but
it's it's such a huge gamble because I think it's the opposite's going to happen really I think they're
going to piss people off and you're going to lose a lot of the diehard maximuses that you know have
read the comics and love them yeah but I I think I personally think they're they're trying they're looking
for an edge grasping at straws I think he's dead I think that this is where we're going to find out
that that's your theory we'll find
We're going to find out the baby.
The sister, the sister, Judith, is the saving grace.
And she's going to give him blood.
He's going to live.
That he's saving Judith.
Interesting.
This is where we find our grand unifying theory next episode.
Oh my gosh.
So wait a minute.
Does she like to lick the wound and that like heals people or what?
Or we get it, or we find a clean syringe?
That's not a bad idea.
What if she does just like lick the wound?
Yeah.
Like here, Judith just.
And he says, no, no, no, don't do that.
And then he's healed.
It just seals up right there.
We'll see you next week on talking Walking Dead.
Yeah, you heard it here first.
