Starting point is 00:00:00 With Amex Platinum, you have access to over 1,400 airport lounges worldwide. So your experience before takeoff is a taste of what's to come. That's the powerful backing of Amex. Conditions apply. Blaze Radio Network. And now, chewing the fat with Jeff Fisher. Sad, sad news for soda drinkers. Drinking just two 12-ounce cans of soda per week can effectively erase.
Starting point is 00:00:30 the heart health gains made during exercise. Holy cow. This according to a new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. I love the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Pharmacologists at the University Laval in Quebec City analyzed health data from approximately 100,000 adults over 30 years to find that the damage done by sugar-sweetened beverages can't be over. with the average recommended workout quota, about 150 minutes every week.
Starting point is 00:01:06 So they're urging consumers to drop cane and a syrup-based sodas all together. Physical activities reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease associated with sugar, sweetened beverages by half, but it does not fully eliminate it. Okay. So the researcher said the marketing strategies of these drinks often show active people drinking these beverages. Man, do I hate those commercials. It suggests that sugary drink consumption
Starting point is 00:01:35 has no negative effects on health if you're physically active. I suggest that. It doesn't necessarily say that. The Canadian team noted that the two sodas, every seven days, could be considered relatively low by many, uh, yeah, including, uh, the host of this broadcast, yet still presented significant health risks.
Starting point is 00:01:57 so this is further support for public health recommendations and policies to limit people's intake of sugar, sweeten beverages, as well as to encourage people to meet and maintain adequate physical activity levels. Yeah, we don't want to just tell you that it's bad. We want to limit your intake. We want to have that power over you. And that is what's coming to a soda fountain near you very soon. Welcome. Welcome to chewing the fat. So we have sodas bad for you.
Starting point is 00:02:42 And then we get the story that talks about 43% of adults worldwide, now living with obesity. The world is facing a big problem. A recent study from the Lancet suggests that one in eight people qualify as obesity. In 2022, more than one billion people, 43% of adults, were living with obesity, according to researchers from the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration. And I love the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration. The number of adults who live with obesity has more than doubled since 1990. And among children between five and 19 years old, the obesity rate has quadrupled, according to a recent report from the World Health Organization. Wow. That data suggested that more than 390 million children within the age range were overweight in 2022, including 160 million who were living with obesity.
Starting point is 00:03:39 So this new study highlights the importance of preventing and managing obesity from early life to adulthood through diet, physical activity, and adequate care. Out of the 200 countries, the U.S. ranked 36th in overall. obesity. So be ready to be told what you can eat when you can eat it and how long you can have it. Now, the FDA has come out with their new healthy logo, which means they're going to be able to tell you, hey, this food is healthy and this food is not. So if you don't eat the food that has the healthy logo on it, oh my gosh, could be the end of times. They have, they're going to roll out the new logo as soon as this year for companies to stamp on the packaging of health. Healthy foods.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Oh, that's good. Because they want to clear up any confusion on what products actually should count as good for you. The new symbol will follow a long-awaited update to the FDA's definition. Oh, that's good. Of what foods can claim to be healthy to eat under federal rules. Yeah, I want the government to tell me what's healthy to eat. That's for sure. So around 3% of manufactured foods right now are currently allowed to claim their food counts as healthy.
Starting point is 00:04:57 to eat. Foods like raw fruits, vegetables will still automatically qualify to be healthy foods and could use the symbol. Oh, that's so good. There's already regulation on the books, but there's just not enough regulations on the books. But those regulations were established in the 90s, and they set the criteria for saying food is healthy. Oh, that's great. So we're just going to reset that and make sure that you can only eat the foods with the healthy logo. That is a So be ready for that. Not only will you be told what you can't eat and what you can't eat, what's healthy and what's not healthy. And if it doesn't have the FDA healthy sticker on it, you shouldn't be eating it at all.
Starting point is 00:05:41 And in fact, we'll let you know that with the app that since you use that to purchase foods at stores, it will let you know how much of the food you purchased is healthy. That's great. The government is so helpful in that way, aren't they? Why, yes, yes, they are. So, did you see the rocket shoot off last night? Really cool, a night launch from Kennedy, from Cape Canaveral. It was awesome.
Starting point is 00:06:10 SpaceX successfully launched a manned crew eight mission going to the ISS. And the liftoff was beautiful, and it looked awesome. But I loved the countdown. and the one announcer for SpaceX. She got all wound up. It was really cool. Countdown, of course. Go.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Five, four, three, two, one, ignition. Ignition. There we go. There comes the excitement. Ambition is 0.0.0. Oh, oh. Oh.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Oh. It's a point seven million pounds of heat. Yes, I almost spit it out. I almost took a breath. awesome. That was fun to watch. If you ever seen a night launch in person, they are awesome. And all the people living in Florida, I'm sure, you know, got to see it.
Starting point is 00:07:20 And I've seen them several times. Living in Florida is really good. So this is just another example of why the government can't get rid of Elon Musk. I mean, they hate him. They're going after his neurolinked, the brain. chip company. They're going after Tesla. They're going after his paycheck at Tesla, but they can't quite, they hate him because he bought Twitter and now it's X and they're all about him and they just take him, but they need him for space and they need it for that SpaceX and NASA to launch
Starting point is 00:07:59 cruise. Finally, we have, you know, we've got the other companies that they've, you know, contracted out that was sent to the moon that can't quite do it. But Elon and SpaceX are definitely still launching rockets into space and will be up at the International Space Station. I think they're up there for six months. So they're going to be on the ISS for six months doing whatever they do. And I guess they're going to try to fix the small air leak that they found at the space station. So let's hope that the astronauts on board the...
Starting point is 00:08:36 Commander Matthew Dominic, pilot Michael Barrett, mission specialist Jeanette Epps, and a Russian Roskamos Cosmonaut Alexander Agrabankan, who is also acting as mission specialist. This is the first mission to the ISS for all except for Barrett, who was making his third visit, so they're going to be up there for six months and hopefully, you know, finding the leak and putting a plug in it. And on top of that, it claims that they are going to be doing experiments with stem cells. how they react in space and on degenerative diseases, as well as looking at the cellular impact of microgravity and ultraviolet radiation on plants with hopes that plants can remain an increasingly important part of nourishment during these lengthy stays.
Starting point is 00:09:24 They're going to be also experimenting with pressure cuffs on legs to see if they alleviate health problems, including fluid shifts among astronauts in space, experiencing weightlessness, with no gravity on the ISS fluids in the body tend to shift upward towards the head, which can cause health problems with eye and head pressure, something astronauts are all too familiar with. So let's get to it. Let's get them up there and get to these tests. But first and foremost, we need to find that leak and either put a plug in it or
Starting point is 00:09:58 strap some duct tape over it, something so that the leak stops. They claim it shouldn't be that big of a problem. problem. Uh-huh. Uh, we don't believe the leak will impact the crew safety. Uh-huh. But the teams are watching it. Yeah, they better be watching it and find some duct tape to cover it up. Starting point is 00:13:48 a pre-wedding celebration in India and they had all those social media stars and all the big time money makers were all there and he mentioned that Rihanna was going to do a show there.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Well then I read about the Rihanna show at the wedding bash in India and people were unhappy with Rihanna. I know. You'd think that she got paid six million for showing up to this wedding. You'd think that she'd want to put on
Starting point is 00:14:18 a, you know, less than lackluster, less than boring show. Nope. Not Rihanna. People were unhappy with Rihanna's performance at this pre-wedding
Starting point is 00:14:34 celebration. Now, regulars of Rihanna claim that that's just the way she is. She's been a lackluster performer from the very beginning, and she has worked on her performances. She's had no need to work on her performances because why would she if you're going to pay her $6 million to show up and sing a few songs? So I'm just saying, if you, you know, let's say you win the lotto. If you're listening live today, there's a powerball
Starting point is 00:15:01 drawing tonight, the 4th of March, 24, that has a jackpot of $460 million, $220.20.4 million cash payout. I keep talking about the lotto because there hasn't been a winner. The jackpot's keeping growing and then tomorrow Tuesday the 5th of March you have the mega millions drawing 650 million dollar jackpot 308.6 million cash payout for those drawings let's say you win one of those and you think to yourself you know I would really like Rihanna to show up at my wedding I wonder if I could give her six million dollars to show up would you expect a tremendous show or would you just say oh that's Rihanna and it's gonna be a
Starting point is 00:15:44 lackluster and boring show. I think for me, I'm spending that $6 million. Whether it's a wedding or a pre-wedding celebration, I want the performance to be less than lackluster. But that's just me. Sure, you get a few pictures. You get a few posts for Instagram, which is Jeff Fisher Radio, and Facebook Jeff Fisher Radio.
Starting point is 00:16:08 I get a few posts on X at Jeffrey JFR, just me and Rihanna, hanging out at the wedding, her getting ready to go on stage, that kind of thing. But, you know, do I get to post it on YouTube chewing the fat with Jeff Fisher? Yeah, I get to post a little bit of that on my YouTube channel. Do I get to, do I say, hey, Rihanna, why don't you buy a cameo from me at Jeffrey JFR? I just paid you $6 million for the performance. Why don't you go on cameo and order a cameo from me? Do that, would you please?
Starting point is 00:16:38 But I still say, I would expect, after all of that, To even, I want a less than lackluster performance. Again, though, I know that's just me. All right, let's go to the break room. I need something cool to drink desperately. So I see where Dune Part 2 delivered. I did not go see it. I really don't have a great deal of excitement to see part 2.
Starting point is 00:17:13 I will see it once it comes on a streaming platform, because I did watch one on HBO Max when it was first released, because the first one was released at theaters and on HBO Max. This one was just theaters. So they wanted to make at least 80 million. They claim that it hauled in $81.5 million domestically, 178 million worldwide. Pretty good.
Starting point is 00:17:41 They really, they needed to hit that 80 million mark on that opening weekend. we shall see. All the reviews were really good. I guess IMAX accounted for 18.5 million or 23% of tickets sales because those people all wanted to watch the movie in the director's preferred 70mm format. And so they attended the IMAX showings. They specifically talked about the one that they showed in New York at 3.15 a.m. and that was sold out at 3.15 a.m. just to see the 70 millimeter format. Yeah, I'm, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:19 That's fine. Would I like to go see it at, you know, at the IMAX? Yeah, am I going to? Probably not. But they, the box office needed it. And they loved it because the last big opening weekend was from Taylor Swift and her concert movie. So we still have Bob Marley, one love, his third weekend.
Starting point is 00:18:39 that captured 7.4 million and another 8 internationally. So that's up to 146 million worldwide. It's pretty good for Bob Marley's one love. And then you had the Chosen Season 4 episodes, which we'll see. You know, they're streaming series in movie theaters. Ordinary Angels, which is its third frame, a total 12.5,6 million. And Madam Webb got 40.
Starting point is 00:19:09 million on his fourth weekend that doesn't vote well for Madam Webb and I also see speaking of movies I see where Disney is considering a return for Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow
Starting point is 00:19:25 what I won't hear of it yeah do you mean to think that they need a hit movie and the guy who was the superstar for Disney and the pirates of the Caribbean that guy we're going to bring him back, you betcha.
Starting point is 00:19:44 Now, the original story I read said, well, it's a supporting role. Oh, oh, okay, yeah, it's a supporting role. He's going to steal the scene just like he always does, and it's going to be Johnny Depp is back as Captain Jack Sparrow. And a couple other show updates. I see
Starting point is 00:20:01 where Gerard Butler, it's reported, is going to be filming a sequel to Greenland. It's called Migration. And that's confirmed to start filming in April. You know, the first one was okay. We'll see. But this one, I'm sure, will be a way where they have to leave the bunker of Greenland, which he finally got to.
Starting point is 00:20:21 And he, the wife and the family will have to find a heroic journey across the wasteland of Europe to find a new home. So we have that to look forward to probably in 2025 if they're just now filming. Now, there's no date on that. And I see where John Hamm is reportedly going to join. Taylor Sheridan's newest show, Landman, which is set in the boom towns of West Texas, and is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs. So it's based on an 11-part podcast, Boomtown Landman, is an upstairs, downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcats, and Billy Bob Thornton is in it, and Ham is going to play a recurring role in the series,
Starting point is 00:21:06 which is already in production. and so we'll see how that works. It's Taylor Sheridan, so I'm sure it's going to be, for now, anything that Taylor puts his hand on is gold. So this is another gold series from Taylor Landman. I mean, I guess Tulsa King, another Taylor Sheridan show with Sylvester Stallone, they claim that season two has been in the works. Season one was awesome.
Starting point is 00:21:34 I loved it. But apparently, the reports are, that Tulsa King's Season 2, yeah, we're not going to be producing that in Oklahoma. I live in Florida now. Sylvester says, I'm down living in Florida and we can shoot it in Atlanta
Starting point is 00:21:50 if you want, but I'm not going to travel out to Oklahoma. So I guess that's the deal. I guess they're going to shoot Tulsa King season 2 in Atlanta, not Oklahoma, which is okay. I see where Sly is pushing his new season.
Starting point is 00:22:07 of the Sly and the family, which is his reality show. Incredible. I saw an interview where they were pushing it. What a great way to push it. He had the wife and the daughters. And he answered honestly saying that the reason that they were doing this season was for greed. Yeah, no kidding. Now, he laughed it off.
Starting point is 00:22:28 And the family of the daughters are all promoting that this was the best season ever. Season two, they're more comfortable with the cameras. and we opened up more. But Sly was like, yeah, no, we did it for the greed. We got rent to pay. So the next time you think you hear about the reality shows, yeah, it's all that has to do with greed. Boarding for Flight 246 to Toronto is delayed 50 minutes. What?

Starting point is 00:23:36 Who died today? Who died today? Well, we'll begin with Chris Martinson. Chris Mortensen, an award-winning sports journalist or just, you know, an award-winning journalist. He reported on the NFL for ESPN for more than 30 years, had passed away this past weekend at the age of 72. He joined ESPN back at 1991, and he was all over ESPN. And then he retired, or at least quit in 2016 when he was diagnosed with throat cancer. So he's been battling that for quite a while now, and he obviously lost his battle with that at the age of 72. Rest in peace, Chris Mortensen. Then we have Ann Whitfield, Anne Whitfield, star of the movie White Christmas. The 1954 holiday film has passed away at the age of 85. Now, I'm told that
Starting point is 00:24:42 she is the last one standing, or was the last one standing, from White Christmas, except for, I guess there was, there's an unnamed character, an uncredited character that was in the movie White Christmas
Starting point is 00:24:58 that's still alive. That's what I'm told. I haven't done my due diligence on finding out if that's true or not, but for now, let's just say that no one from the movie, White Christmas, from 1955,
Starting point is 00:25:12 is still alive, except for that one uncredited actor. Anne Winfield died at the age of 85. Now, it says in the story that she died of an unexpected accident. It doesn't say what it was. It says that she was out walking her neighborhood in Washington, and it was an unexpected accident. Did she fall and break her hip? Was she attacked by dogs?
Starting point is 00:25:40 Was she hit by an asteroid? Was there a car that ran her over? Did a tree fall on her? I don't know. What is an unexpected accident? I don't know. I want to know. I want to know.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Just out of my own horrible mind, I want to know what killed Ann Whitfield. In fact, we may have to just do a show what killed Ann Whitfield. And we're going to have to see if we can figure out what happened, whether it was a tree, a dog? Did someone run her down? Did she break a hip? We don't know. We don't know. It was an unexpected accident at the age of 85, rest in peace, and Winfield. Then we have Paulo Taviani. Pollo Taviani, the iconic Italian director, who, I mean, he and his brother made all kinds of films, Vittoro Taviani. He has passed away at the age of 92. He died. after suffering a short illness.
Starting point is 00:26:45 So it could to be that. I mean, if it was that, they would have said something, right? They just would, instead it's just called a, you know, a short illness. Anyway, Apollo Tavion, dead at the age of 92. He died of a brief illness. Oh, I'm sorry, a short illness. I mean, it wasn't an unexpected accident. I just, the San Whitfield thing is bugging me.
Starting point is 00:27:10 I just want to know what the unexpected accident. accident was. Okay, so it goes on to talk about in this. That's why I started digging around a little bit because it's bugging me. All right, so she's up for a walk in the neighborhood. She suffers an unexpected accident while on a walk in her neighborhood. Now, through the kindness of neighbors who provided expert medical support, the family had the gift to say goodbye and express love and gratitude, a gift we will always cherish. So they saved her life. The neighbors saved her life when they got her to a hospital and the family was able to show up at the hospital and then she passed away. So they were very happy about that and that's good. That's nice that they were able to say goodbye.
Starting point is 00:27:52 They still don't say what the unexpected accident was. Was it a heart attack? Was it a stroke? Was it a hip? Was it a chunk of space metal? I don't know. I want to know what the unexpected accident was. All right, one more thing that I guess is dead. It's not really under who died today, but we're in the segment. JetBlue and Spirit are ending their $3.8 billion merger plan after a federal judge blocked the deal. Yeah, so it's over. JetBlue said, hey, you know what? We're ending our proposed merger after the judge blocked the deal, saying it would hurt consumers who depend on Spirit's lower fares.
Starting point is 00:28:37 So thanks, Judge, for watching out for us. a consumer about blocking big air from getting together. So JetBlue and Spirit are no longer going to merge. And it was a bold and courageous plan, but it just didn't happen because the judge said, eh, no, not so much, not so much. So rest in peace, JetBlue and Spirit. I mean, they're still alive, just not together.
Starting point is 00:29:06 And by the way, they're all raising their prices anyway. So I don't know that the judge has helped with that. But, you know, okay, I guess even though they may raise their prices, they still have the cheapest prices on the block. That doesn't make them cheap. They just means that they have the cheapest prices, comparatively speaking. Speaking of, you know, being dead or at least struggling of the walking dead, I see where Vladimir and Putin listed 14 U.S. targets in the U.S.
Starting point is 00:29:33 he would likely aim for in nuclear war with the West. Really? Do we believe that? Okay, he claims that NATO and the U.S. are prepping to strike Russian territory. If that happens, then he would say, and he said in his state of the union, that we have weapons and destruction of civilization. They don't get that. Okay. So he listed, went on to list 14 places that he would nuke.
Starting point is 00:30:04 The Pentagon, all right, that's in Arlington, Virginia. Naval Station in Norfolk. Okay. Comfort Suites Kings Navy. Comfort Suites Kings Bay Naval Base area. Okay. That's in Camden County, Georgia. Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Whiteman Air Force Base, which is in Nab Nostr, Missouri, M-I-Z, baby. That's the home of the B-52 Stealth Bomber. The United States Strategic Command, I'm not sure. Where is the United States Strategic Command? Is that in Nebraska? I think it is.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Then you have the VLF Array Lula Lala. It's actually Lulali, Hawaii. And that's where a lot of the subs are. You have the Kirkland Air Force Base in New Mexico. You have the Space Force,
Starting point is 00:30:59 Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado. You have the Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. You have the Air Force Base at North Dakota. You have the Air Force Base in Utah.
Starting point is 00:31:16 You have Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. And you have the Naval Radio Station, Jim Creek, which is in Washington. Okay. So, we don't have Central Command
Starting point is 00:31:31 in Tampa, which would seem like a place that you would want to hit. But But, okay, I mean, it bodes well for Tampa Bay and does not bode well for any of these areas. And plus, these are strategic bases around the country, which would be a huge fallout. We don't want that. And he's just threatening us. Hey, Vlad, calm down.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Okay, calm down. Marshall's buyers travel far and wide, hustling for great deals on amazing gifts. So you don't have to. bagged this season's Italian leather handbags. Designer. Hand-picked the finest sweaters from the rest. Ooh, cashmere. Landed makeup pallets from the brands you love.
Starting point is 00:32:29 Rushes too. And hustled all those wishless topping toys. So plush. Our buyers have got you covered. Marshals. We get the deals. You gift the good stuff. You know, so I used to go to Panera bread quite a bit when I lived in,
Starting point is 00:32:43 when I lived in Tampa Bay. We used to go there for lunch from time to time. There was a Panera in South Tampa that I would go to. Well, now, apparently Panera Bread is set to launch cheaper sandwiches, abandoned dinner in the largest menu transformation ever. Oh, okay. They plan to expand its salad and sandwich options with the largest menu transformation ever. I know I already said that.
Starting point is 00:33:06 It's in the story. Including many items for less than $10 as it shifts away from dinner meals. Yeah, that's what we went to Panera Bread for. just incredible. So the rollout at Panera's more than 2,100 locations is slated to begin April 4th. We listen to thousands of guests
Starting point is 00:33:24 on our path to unveiling more than 20 new or enhanced menu items and are thrilled to bring these products to Panera Bakery Cafes nationwide. That's a good move on their part. No question, because things are getting more expensive and you might as well say, hey, we feel you
Starting point is 00:33:40 and we're going to make things a little bit cheaper and better just for. for you. So I guess we're adding new items and enhanced recipes and it's going to be a little bit cheaper at Panera bread. So that's not a bad move on their part. I used to their soup, their bread soup, you know, the cup of bread soup was awesome. It's probably $100 now, but at the time, it was not. I have not been to a Panera bread in a long time. Back of the day, that was one of the few places that had free Wi-Fi, too. So you could go there and get a soda and get yourself a, you know, a bread bowl of soup and sit there and work with free Wi-Fi. Not that I would
Starting point is 00:34:25 ever do that, but you definitely could have done that if you wanted to. So I see Caitlin Clark, we talked about it last week. She did break the record this weekend. She became the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I men or women. She passed Pete Mervis. on Sunday was a big weekend. It was awesome. It was fun to watch. Kind of anti-climactic, though, because she did it at the free throw line.
Starting point is 00:34:50 So she tied it and broke it at the free throw line. And while it's a big deal, and she's awesome, it just seemed like it was, you know, you wanted her to hit the, you wanted to hit a three to break it. And she was on fire for the game anyway. They beat Ohio State. She sets the record.
Starting point is 00:35:11 And she's, you know, the most prolific. or NCAA Division I basketball history. We told you last week she's decided not to come back for her final year. Big surprise. She's going to turn pro. I don't know what, I think probably she's going to go to Indiana, they think. You know, she'll get paid, you know, $100 million and well-deserved for her. I doubt that it will be $100 million, but it's definitely well-deserved.
Starting point is 00:35:35 And I see how angry must LeBron James be? I love this so much. So LeBron James this weekend became the first player in NBA history to reach 40,000 career points. That's, you know, it's a big milestone, and he's still playing. And, you know, I guess he's waiting to be able to play with this son, and so they can set dad and son playing on the same team, that kind of thing. But he sets this record for the most in NBA history, and nobody cares. Why?
Starting point is 00:36:10 Because Caitlin Clark became the all-time leading scorer in the NCAA Division I, men or women. And nobody cares about you, LeBron. He's got to be so pissed that the world only cares about Caitlin Clark this weekend and not LeBron. I am in love with that. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. And the same weekend that Xavier Worthy set the fastest NFL Combine 40, ever. He was, I mean, he was moving. His official time was 4.21. That's a combine record. I mean to tell you, that is fast. That's one thing that you learn in sports is you can't teach speed. You can quote
Starting point is 00:36:58 me on that. You can't teach speed. Man, you can teach everything else. But if you are fast, you are fast. And if you are not, you are not. You can work on technique and you could make yourself maybe a half a second faster, maybe not even a quarter of a second faster because of technique, but that still doesn't make you fast. And Xavier Worthy was fast. So that's the NFL combine going on. Another reason that nobody cares about LeBron, which is what I tend to like.
Starting point is 00:37:36 All right, I'll leave you with a thought for the day. I read this this weekend. And I thought, oh, that's interesting. That's an interesting thought for the day. And that's something to look at it that I've never looked at it like before. Yeah, that's right. So here's the kind of thought for the day for you, okay? A belly button is basically a scar from when you got into a knife fight with a guy in a mask after being evicted from your first place.
