Blaze Radio Network And now, Chewing the Fat with Jeff Fisher. This story just amazes me. So in 2016, Mark Zuckerberg at his wife, Priscilla Chan, opened a tuition-free school for low-income families in California's Bay Area, where META is headquartered. And I think that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:00:52 So they created under the couple's philanthropy, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the CZI, and the primary school aimed to combine health care and education for students from birth through high school. And Chan, being a former pediatrician, once described the organization's education efforts as combining her two core passions. Well, not any longer. Last week, the primary school abruptly said, yeah, we're going to shut down at the end of the 25-26 school year. Sorry about it. It's a difficult decision. You know that.
Starting point is 00:01:26 But we're just going to close it down. And the hundreds of families that were on campus and we served, good luck, take care. Now, they claim that the school isn't being shut down because of CZI, but CZI stopped giving them money. They said, no, we're not going to invest the 50 million a year or whatever they invested every year to keep the school going. And then the school said, well, we don't have any other way to make enough money to keep it. it open, so we've got to close. Okay. Now, I will say that CZI, the Chan Zuckerberg
Starting point is 00:02:05 Foundation, said that they were going to donate $50 million to the communities and families affected by the closure. Oh, okay, well, I'm affected greatly by this closure.
Starting point is 00:02:20 And I tell you, I can barely get through the day without thinking about how terrible it is for those kids and everyone involved. So if you'd like to just send me a sliver of the 50 million, that would be, well, I'd be great. Welcome. Welcome to chewing the fat. Okay. So this story, I remember the story. And I also, you know, can't believe that it's still ongoing. This began in 2016, just like the Chan Zuckerberg initiative with the school. Anyway, this happened in Paris, in
Starting point is 00:03:03 2016. Kim Kardashian robbed. I think we all remember the story of Kim being robbed. I just did not realize how bad it actually was. So there's a trial that opened in Paris yesterday. Ten suspects accused of robbing the media personality, Kim Kardashian, at gunpoint during Paris Fashion Week in 2016. The suspects, nine men, one woman, many in their six.
Starting point is 00:03:31 many in their 60s and 70s. They're being called the Grandpa Gang now. Allegedly, or that's what they're called, allegedly stormed Kardashian's Hotel. They didn't allegedly. I mean, they did it. Stormed her hotel suite while her bodyguard was away. Tied her up, stole roughly $6 million in jewelry,
Starting point is 00:03:52 including her $4 million engagement ring from her then husband, Kanye West, or yay. Prosecutors say five men disguised as police. officers forced a night concierre to lead them to Kardashian's room, where she was gagged, bound, and locked in a bathroom. The robbers escaped on foot and by bicycle. A DNA found on zip ties and tape used to restrain Kardashian later led to the suspect's arrest. Of the original 12 defendants, one has died, another suffering from advanced dementia, and has been deemed unfit to stand trial. Five are charged with carrying out the heist and five with serving as accessories.
Starting point is 00:04:37 Holy cow. I didn't know it was that bad. I don't know why that I don't remember it being that bad, but I just don't. So the trial is scheduled to run until May 23rd. Kim is set to test, I'm sorry, Ms. Kardashian, is sent to testify in person the 13th of May. So that's, you know, a couple of weeks away now. The one guy, this unit, Abbas, 71, who has publicly acknowledged his participation in the heist. The 10 suspects, he's one of the 10 suspects facing charges, including armed robbery and kidnapping. He said he will apologize.
Starting point is 00:05:14 I mean it sincerely. He was arrested in January of 2017. He spent 21 months in prison before being released under judicial supervision in 2021. Now, he co-authored a French language book titled, I, requested Kim Kardashian. They have, he hasn't made any money from it though at all. And then I watch some of the David Letterman Netflix show and my next guest or whatever
Starting point is 00:05:47 the heck the title is and I like it. And the one with Kim Kardashian on it, I never watched it. I've skipped over it. I don't know why. I just was like, I don't care what she has to say. But on that show, according to this. according to this, she told Dave and the audience that she thought this was the time that she was going to get raped. She said, I'm like, what is happening?
Starting point is 00:06:11 Are we going to die? Just tell them I have children. I have babies. I have a husband. I have a family. Wow. She told investigators that the men brought her in the bathroom before they ran off and then she managed to free herself. Wow.
Starting point is 00:06:28 So this Eunice Abbas, who was on a bicycle, he was the one with all the jewelry. And he had it in a bag. And he was hopped on a bicycle. And he was nervous because the police were around. But the police didn't know about the robbery yet. But he was still nervous. And so he fell from his bicycle. And he crashed.
Starting point is 00:06:50 And a lot of the jewelry spilled out of the bag. So he picked it up because nobody saw it. And he rode away. well there was still this bracelet that was left on the sidewalk or on the curb that he forgot to pick up after he crashed and somebody found it the next day and said hey isn't this one of the things you're looking for so we'll see how this trial goes pretty incredible i just i didn't realize it was so terrible i thought they just robbed if you'd asked me yesterday i would have said they robbed her she got robbed on her hotel room and they took a bunch of jewelry, but I didn't know that they held her hostage and, you know, kept her hog tied and bound. And I don't know that they hog tied her, but they did keep her tied up and duct taped her mouth.
Starting point is 00:07:43 I just, I don't know, wish that on anyone. Very sad. So these people, I'm sure, will be found guilty. And it was also incredible that this started in 2016, and the trial in Paris is happening now. Holy cow. It's been 10 years. Well, okay, nine. But I mean, darn near 10 years since this robbery.

And you can also submit your joke of the day. and we'll see if that makes it to the show as well, chewing the fat at the blaze.com. So something that I'm sure existed, but I didn't,
Starting point is 00:12:19 I wasn't aware that it existed. This do not sale list. Oh, no. Dozens were put on a do not sale list after a massive brawl breaks out on a carnival cruise ship. Oh, okay. So we all. if you didn't see it, it's making the rounds.
Starting point is 00:12:41 This video captured a moment that a massive brawl broke out among Carnival Cruise Ship Passengers in Texas, resulting in more than a dozen people being banned from the cruise liner for life. The violence erupted as scores of passengers were disembarking from this Carnival Jubilee when it docked in Galveston on Saturday, following a week-long Caribbean jaunt, according to the footage shared on social media. It went down this morning. That was the, that was a lie from the Facebook post.
Starting point is 00:13:19 So it showed multiple passengers, barging past barriers. And at one point, a man shoved to the floor. A handful of others started violently pumbling him. Multiple security guards could be seen running toward the pack. and they weren't able to immediately curb the melee. Several open suitcases scattered around the terminal. Holy cow. So the incident occurred in the debarkation area
Starting point is 00:13:50 under the authority of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. So now it's turned over to law enforcement. And of course, cruise lines says we will not tolerate such behavior. The 24 people have been placed on our do not sale list, at least one person was arrested over the ordeal. Police said it was not immediately clear what had started the ruckus or what charges those arrested were facing.
Starting point is 00:14:15 We don't know. We just got to arrest somebody because this had to stop and we can't take that. Boy, it makes you want to go on a cruise line, doesn't it? Me too. Maybe I'll stop by McDonald's on the way to my next cruise adventure
Starting point is 00:14:30 because I see where they have now added their chicken sandwich to the McDonald's. Yeah, they got to fight, man. They got to fight against raising canes, Buffalo Wild Wings, Wing Stop. So we'll see how they go. They apparently are going to start selling McChryspy strips beginning this week, May 5th, 2025. It may be available already at some of your local locations, at least you can do is ask. All white chicken tenders coated in crispy golden brown breading. The tenders are an extension of the change crispy chicken sandwich, which was its last permanent menu item when McDonald's began selling it in 2021.
Starting point is 00:15:16 So they're also adding a new creamy chili dip. The tenders will be served in three or four pieces along with other sauces, including barbecue, spicy buffalo, and ranch dressings. Oh, okay. So you got that going for you. And then I see where McDonald's, has also officially launched its new premium lemonade, replacing the previous minute-made lemonade offering. This new beverage is crafted with a simplified ingredient list. Water,
Starting point is 00:15:49 cane, sugar, lemon juice from concentrate, lemon pulp, and natural flavors, unlike its predecessor, which contained high fruit toast corn syrup and artificial additives. Use. The premium lemonade aims to deliver a more natural, fresh, squeezed taste. Okay, so there you go. You can get a better lemonade at McDonald's now. When you order their premium lemonade, yeah. Makes you want to go to McDonald's, doesn't it? Yeah, I don't really want to go to McDonald's.
Starting point is 00:16:24 So I saw the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2025 class of inductees. and, you know, I still the usual, en cast, outcast, Cindy Lopper. I mean, do I think Cindy Lopper should be in the Rock Whirl Hall of Fame? Sure, go ahead. That's fine. She's Cindy Lopper.
Starting point is 00:16:47 And then you have a bad company. Well, they deserve it. Chubby Checker. Sure, okay. Joe Cocker. I don't think Joe was that big sound garden. Are they worth the hall? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:17:01 And then they have the special committee categories, like the Musical Influence Award, which honors the hip-hop group Salt and Peppa, and the singer-songwriter Warren Zavon, which, you know, okay, I get that. The Musical Excellence Award was bespoke upon Tom Bell, Nikki Hopkins, and Carol Kay, while the Amette Ertigan Award, and I love the Amet Ertigan Award, in honor of the Atlantic Records co-founder, was giving to Lenny Warunker. Lenny Warunker. Congratulations for receiving the Amat Erdogan Award from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Fortunately, they're going to have an induction ceremony take place November 8th. Yes, just around the corner in November at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Now, that's going to be streamed live on Disney Plus. And they're going to, it says here,
Starting point is 00:17:57 with a special airing on ABC, some other later date. And then it'll be available on Hulu the next day. So watch it live on November 8th. Or, you know, we'll catch it on ABC sometime in the future. Wow. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has worked out a great deal to get their show on broadcast television, haven't they? All right, let's go to the break room.
Starting point is 00:18:24 I need something cold to drink desperately. Hey, you know, you guys that are looking for acting jobs, be careful. The Casting Society has put out a warning that apparently online scammers impersonating casting directors has prompted the casting society and a huge fan of them. And to step in with a warning to actors desperate for work. The organization took action by warning Thespians not to fall prey to offer. that promise auditions in exchange for payment. CSA is always alerting as members to be on the lookout for anyone who tries to assume their online identity in an attempt to rip actors off.
Starting point is 00:19:18 Desperate people begging for a job. And if you pay them the money, they'll get you a job. Apparently, that's not going to happen. It's important for us to make it really clear that a legitimate casting director is not going to ask someone for money on Instagram or any other one of those social media outlets. These are scams, like a random person saying I'm a famous casting director and I need you to send me $500
Starting point is 00:19:46 so I could set up your travel for an audition with a famous director. If you fall for that, you deserve to lose your money. But okay, that's fine. But they're aware. The Casting Society wanted you to know that they're aware of the reports indicating an increase in casting,
Starting point is 00:20:04 professionals being impersonated online and via social media channels, casting society cautions performers to be wary of those who promise auditions or opportunities in exchange for money. Yeah, not just cash. We suggest that performers looking to bona fide opportunities do their own research and seek counsel. What? For more established performers, industry professionals, and trusted sources.
Starting point is 00:20:30 So there you go. Don't fall for it. Don't fall for it. If someone says they can get you a, well, they might, you know, if someone says they can get you a part in a movie, if you just, you know, we take care of a little bit in this over here on the couch. That might actually happen. Just ask Harvey Weinstein.
Starting point is 00:20:47 But that's wrong too. I know. It's wrong too. I got it. But for sure, don't give anybody cash. Congratulations are in order to Francis Ford Coppola. He is just won an award from AFI. the 50th AFI life achievement award from the American Film Institute.
Starting point is 00:21:12 The Godfather, because of the godfather, according to George Lucas, who was there along with Stephen Spielberg to present Coppola with the 50th AFI Life Achievement Award, the greatest American film ever made, according to Stephen Spielberg. He's crafted what many consider some of the greatest films ever made. Jaws, E.T. Jurassic Park. Yeah, Spielberg's done a pretty good job on his movies as well. But he said that he considers the Francis Ford Coppola, 1972, The Godfather, the best film ever produced.
Starting point is 00:21:55 Okay. I mean, I'm a huge fan of The Godfather. And I like all three of them. but the first two, My Godfather 2 is another tremendous movie. I really like it a lot. But Coppola received the AFI
Starting point is 00:22:10 Award, the Lifetime Achievement. It's not a Lifetime Achievement Award. Yeah, that's what it is. It's a life, no, it's not a lifetime. It's the AFI Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute. So congratulations to Francis Ford Coppola. And go, go with you.
Starting point is 00:22:31 I'm with you, Steven Spielberg this time. I think that is the Godfather the best film ever produced? Sure. Go ahead. Let's say that. Let's say that. It's between the brothers, Kay. I had nothing to do with it.
Starting point is 00:22:47 I love those stupid movies. Oh, and for those of you that, you know, are looking to actually find a casting, you know, director that will help you out because I saw where Netflix is adding new shows. And then Fox is launching something called The Snake, a new traitor-style competition show hosted by Jim Jeffries. I'm sure you could get on with Dancing with the Stars.
Starting point is 00:23:15 I mean, they've just been renewed for the 34th season. Just amazing that that show has been around that long. Dancing with the Stars, 34th season. Now, obviously they have, you know, a couple seasons a year. they've been going since I think 04, 05, something like that. So, you know, the seasons are tightened up a little bit.
Starting point is 00:23:38 But still, dancing with the stars, 34 seasons, who'd have thunk it? And then, sad news about the Roseanne spin-off, the Connors. Yeah, that's done. That's over. It's had a nice day.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Which is incredible because I thought it was over anyway. I didn't even know the show was still on. So the show ended, you know, I thought a long time ago. But apparently they were still cooking along. John Goodman, Lori Medcaf, Sarah Gilbert, Lacey, Leggy Gorensen was Becky, right? And they said good night to each other before Dan was left alone in the living room.
Starting point is 00:24:21 And he looked at the camera, smiling with tears in his eyes and said, good night directly to the audience. So that was it. That show was on for another seven years. because after the first year and then we went into the second year because that's how it works that's how you go into one, two, three
Starting point is 00:24:43 right on in the seven. I can't believe that it was on for seven years. Wow, I've got to go back and get caught up on my the Connors. I'm going to do that very soon. Get no frills delivered. Shop the same in the same. store prices online and enjoy unlimited delivery with PC Express Pass.
Starting point is 00:25:19 Get your first year for 250 a month. Learn more at PCExpress.ca. Who died today? Who died today? Well, let's begin with Lulu Roman. Lulu Roman dead at the age of 78. Now, you ask yourself, who is Lulu Roman? Well, you would know her.
Starting point is 00:25:40 She's best known for her different roles on here. He-Ha. She was a comedian, a gospel singer who performed at President Ronald Reagan's inauguration, has died. There was no cause of death given, but she, if you remember Lulu, on He-Ha, you know that she was, well, a tad bit overweight. So that could have been a problem. She was inducted into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame. She was inducted into the Christian Music Hall of Fame. I mean, she had an incredible life. Just an incredible life.
Starting point is 00:26:17 She was born in Dallas. Her folks died when she was really young. I was just reading a little bit of her bio. And she was placed in an orphanage at two and a half years old. And so she remained there all through high school, all through school. She revealed in one interview that while in high school, it was recommended to take acting and speech classes. and many described her as her naturally animated face. Yeah, you've got a fat face and you can make funny faces, go ahead, be an actress, which it worked for her.
Starting point is 00:26:51 And she was, a pretty good star and funny. And the cause of death was not made public. She was living with her son in Washington. She struggled with a thyroid condition at a young age. Uh-huh. That's what made her overweight was the thyroid condition. She didn't look that. overweight in later life, so she must have lost some weight.
Starting point is 00:27:15 But she, as on he-ha, she was quite a big woman. But I know, very funny and part of the show. So rest in peace to Lulu Roman dead at the age of 78. Then we have a former San Diego mayor, Bob Filner. Bob Filner. The other reason I'm mentioning Bob Filner, he's dead at the age of 18. is that he was the voice, you know, Mr. San Diego. He was a member of Congress and then the mayor.
Starting point is 00:27:50 And then he was the mayor. I don't know how long he was the mayor, but they accused him of sexual assault and harassment. And they forced him to leave office. Yeah, get out. Yeah, he took office like it was nine months. It wasn't that long. And he pleaded guilty to one count of felony,
Starting point is 00:28:09 false imprisonment, two counts of misdemeanor battery. Okay. He was fine. This is, and this is what he was sentenced in 2013. Sentenced to 90 days home confinement, three years probation. Oh, okay. So he got 90 days home confinement and three years probation in 2013 for one count of felony false imprisonment and two counts of misdemeanor battery.
Starting point is 00:28:43 Ha! Okay. So rest in peace, I guess. To Bob Filner, dead at the age of 82. This story is incredible. So this, I want to say rest in peace to Graham Hoffman. He's a 29-year-old paramedic and a firefighter from Kansas City Fire Department. And he died in the back of...
Starting point is 00:29:07 of an ambulance because this crazy woman went crazy and started stabbing everyone. So they did a welfare check on this 39-year-old Shanada Boswell or Shaneda Boswell. She refused help but they talked to her in and said, come on, it's cold. And they took care of her. So she said, okay. So on the way to the hospital, she starts attacking the paramedics. The cops who were following the ambulance reported that it suddenly veered off the road. yeah and the driver left out in a panic
Starting point is 00:29:40 opened the back doors try to help his colleague out while shouting she's got a knife so he was you know bleeding from the chest and she was biting and stabbing this guy and he apparently this person was arrested not too long ago
Starting point is 00:30:00 for biting an officer and so Maybe there was a problem? She bit this officer in the arm too as well later and tried to run off with the ambulance. That's a big problem. She is a big problem. I'm guessing it's a she.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Although it says here Boswell was charged with first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond, also faces charges of resisting, interfering with arrest, and third degree assault. It was too late. Just days before the attacks, she had been let go. Yeah, for another assault on a public servant. That's what I thought in this story.
Starting point is 00:30:49 Yeah, she'd been another public servant. So that's a real problem. Maybe we need to start taking care of people who do something and then we just let them go. You know, something doesn't look like you may need some help. Well, we're not here to help. Get out. And now we end up killing a fine man.
Starting point is 00:31:09 The fire department, fire medic, Graham Hoffman, 29, rest in peace. Very sad. And we got the final autopsy reports for Gene Hackman and his wife. Finally, Betsy, it tells us what we really know. He died of hypertensive and ethrosolocrotic cardiovascular disease. Amorphophalis. Nope, I don't think that's it.
Starting point is 00:31:35 And pulmonary syndrome. The wife died from huntivirus pulmonary syndrome. So we know that that's how they both died. And we know that for sure now, according to the final autopsy. Gene Hackman was 95. And Betsy, his wife, was 65. So rest in peace to Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy. We just wrap this thing up now.
Starting point is 00:32:01 We'll see how the family deals with wrapping up the entire Hackman portfolio. Starting point is 00:33:35 Blaze TV, unfiltered, unafraid, undemand. The Washington commanders, the National Football League Washington commanders, looks like they may have a new stadium, or at least that's how the franchise hopes you'll see it. D.C. Mayor, Merle E. Browser, and the team owner Josh Harris announced a 3.7 billion dollar deal to bring the sports team back to the site of the beloved, is a beloved, but crumbling RFK stadium.
Starting point is 00:34:25 The project, which includes the single largest investment in D.C.'s history could be a legacy making for both Harris and Bowser. The proposed new development spanning 177 acres would include housing, retail, and park spaces, centered around a brand new 65,000-seat roofed. Stadium, thank you, which would enable the space to potentially host a Super Bowl. According to this, it's not a done deal. The commanders said they've pledged to shell out $2.7 billion for the new development, while taxpayers would be on the hook for about $1 billion.
Starting point is 00:35:03 That's nothing. Mostly through an extension to the ballpark fee, which is a tax imposed on local businesses that was expected to expire in 2026. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. You didn't think that that tax was going to go away, did you? No. And some members of the D.C. Council must sign off on the project. And apparently they've already spoken against using the public funds for a stadium.
Starting point is 00:35:27 They're going to use it. You're going to get the tax. Move on. Most economists agree that sports stadiums are a bad use of public funds. Stop it. Taxpayers across the U.S. have spent around $30 billion on them over the last three decades. And a lot of taxpayers are not on board. it. I get it.
Starting point is 00:35:44 Missouri just voted to reject the Chiefs and Royals Stadium tax last year. And, you know, I always, look, teams should pay for it themselves. I know. I'm with you on that 100%. We shouldn't have to pay for it. But it's just a small little tax. It's just a small little, what do they call it, a ballpark fee tax. And it's just there.
Starting point is 00:36:07 And, you know, we'll just use that. And it's no problem. Right? right I will say though I'm happy that it's a dome stadium something that they should have done in Buffalo it should be made illegal
Starting point is 00:36:21 that if you build a new stadium it should be made illegal you heard me say the word illegal not illegal but illegal to build a new stadium in today's world for the national football league and not have it be domed I mean
Starting point is 00:36:36 baseball is questionable but if you're building a brand stadium in the National Football League. In today's world, it should be domed, and that should be a law written into the law books of the National Football League. How the Buffalo Bills, living in that climate, can build a new stadium without a roof on it, is how that can be allowed is beyond me. But there you go.
Starting point is 00:37:04 It is what it is. Oh, you know, did you see that Nicole Shanahan is joining Blaze TV? Starting point is 00:39:05 And now I'm doing chewing the fat. I give and I give and I give for you. I mean, I hope. Yeah, you know what I hope. Yeah, I hope that. So anyway, this joke of the day is a reaction to another joke of the day. So Jesse said it was the joke about the ants. You know, what do you have when you've got five ants, A-U-N-T-S,
Starting point is 00:39:28 in one apartment and five ants A-U-N-T-S in another apartment. And he, you know, the joke, the punchline of the joke that I said was you have 10 ants. So stupid. But he was anticipating that the punchline was going to be 10 happy uncles. That's what you have. When you have five ants in one apartment and five ants in another apartment, you have 10 happy uncles. I appreciate. I appreciate Jesse working like that.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Rewriding the jokes just a little bit, that works. Stream and subscribe to more Blaze Media content at theblaze.com slash podcasts.
