What's up, everyone?
Welcome back to Chicks in Hogwarts, the Harry Potter Pod,
where we recap all of the Harry Potter films.
We are now on the third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Ascaband.
This one was very much hyped up.
Yeah.
This one was really hyped up.
There's a lot of hype around this one.
People were saying this is the best one.
This is my favorite one.
This is where things change.
Yeah.
And let me tell you, things changed.
Things do change.
There's a different director.
There's a different Dumbledore.
There's a totally all-around different feel to this movie compared to the first one.
So I was also very excited for you guys to watch this one.
Because, yeah, it definitely is up there is one of my favorites personally.
So, you know, no pressure.
But it is one that I find myself rewerewe.
watching more than some of the other ones.
And, you know, they're starting to get a little bit older.
They're looking a little more like teenagers.
I saw Ron and Hermione.
You have a little hand grab at one point.
Do you remember what I said about Malfoy doesn't have his hair slicked back?
So I did notice that and I actually didn't like his hair in this one.
I didn't.
I was confused by that one.
Super fair.
Yeah.
Well, once again, let's start off with Ria's note.
notes.
Just a little stream of consciousness from Ria watching Prisoner of Ascaband.
And once we go through that, we can discuss.
And then I have tons that I want to go through and talk about and just recap some of the best
parts of this.
Sometimes I feel like it's like, I'm in class right now.
And then we're going to open a Harry Potter class.
When she said I have tons to talk about, I literally just said to myself, did I pay close
enough attention?
Yeah.
Like now I'm nervous.
I'm in like, I'm in like, oh, fuck.
And I was a bad student, and I think we can all know that by now.
Okay.
Let's start from the beginning.
I can't believe we're still living with these freaks, in parentheses, Derslis.
I'm scared.
I didn't sign up for a horror film.
I'm going to have nightmares tonight.
Did Harry just get the soul sucked out of him?
Don't tell me serious black is just going to be Voldemort.
Wow, good for Hagrid. He loves magical creatures.
That he does.
If I could fly on an animal without getting hurt, that would be sick.
Also, this film has beautiful scenery.
It would be a lot easier if Harry just knew his own parents, huh?
Yeah.
Oh, we're doing clowns now?
Fuck no.
Hermione finally found some curling products.
She really tamed those curls down.
Yeah, yeah. She cut her hair, too.
She did.
It helped.
I feel like I smoked before this movie, but I actually didn't.
Being able to turn into an animal should be cheating.
Okay.
Although this is a film where anything happens.
Yeah.
It's not cheating.
It is magic.
It just feels like cheating.
Yeah, it's magic.
A lot of people get framed for things they didn't do.
True.
Peter Pettergru is wretched looking.
He's just revolting.
He's disgusting.
He's absolutely repulsive.
They do a great job of making him look like a human rat.
Yeah, he looks repulsive.
Turns out, Sirius and Lupin are pretty cool.
Yeah.
Does Snape actually do anything?
Good quiet, good cue, good cue.
This is a song.
If I could turn back time.
Bum, bum, bum.
Fits, right?
Yeah.
And then my last note is Harry always comes out on top.
Yeah.
Harry always comes out on top.
That's it.
They are his movies.
Right.
No, it is called Harry Potter.
Yeah, they are his movies.
Great notes.
I will say, yes.
Snape, one of my favorite
Snape moments in this movie is the
which is what I was about
to say when you were like, you're acting
like a teacher
when he's like turned to page
394, like 9 million times.
But
yeah, the Dersley's, we started the beginning.
The Derslays are back at it.
Aunt Marge. Of course her name's March.
I mean, yeah, obviously.
No offense to the
Marge is out there.
Wait, what is March short?
for Margaret.
That's my grandma's name.
No, I also know a lot of Margaret's and I love them dearly.
Margaret's a great name, but it gets shortened to Marge.
Unfortunately, it's like, like Margaret is a beautiful name.
Francesca is a beautiful name.
Marge, Fran, you just get shorter nicknames that aren't as pretty as the real thing.
Francesca is a beautiful name.
Yeah, thank you.
My cousin's middle name is Marjorie.
And when we were younger, I really made fun.
I was like, Marjorie, such a grandma name.
She got very upset.
And I started to cry.
She was like, that was my grandma's name.
It was a whole thing.
And I say cousin.
She's like a, she's like my second cousin.
So that sounded crazy that I wouldn't know her.
Different grandma.
Our grandpas were twins.
Anyways, you don't need the whole backstory.
But I did make fun of her for her middle name being Audrey.
Aunt Marge is the worst.
And the thought like the fact that he, the fact that she did just blow up and flowed away.
Yeah, that was crazy.
He's just like, I'm not bringing her back.
Can I call her Large March?
Yeah.
Large March.
Yeah.
She was Large March.
Especially as she's floating away.
I like the angst that Harry showed in that scene.
He started to get angsty.
He's getting real angsty.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If you don't know anything about my parents.
Shut the fuck up, large march.
Well, well, she's like, and I mean, she's coming for her.
She's coming for his mom.
Calls her a bitch.
I know it's like the.
proper term for a female dog
but she's like don't you fucking talk about
my parents. Yeah.
I'm still so like confused with like
anything goes on the potter pot.
Aunt Marge.
We're like she just, I keep forgetting
that everyone doesn't know about magic.
You know? Like that's the thing that I'm like, oh
the Dersley family knows but she
doesn't know. No, Marfregard does
not know that Harry.
That's why when the glass broke, she was like, oh, it's fine.
And also like remember she's
like, uh, Uncle Vernon.
is like he's in like you know school for misbehaving boys ever get the name of the school but
like he's in like correctional school and wizards they just get special treatment the night bus the night bus
doesn't uh go to the normal world muggles don't know about the the night bus the night bus comes for harry
because he's special also i'm just like stan shum pike's one of my faiths people are like oh dudley like
they love him and i'm like he's the most unlikable kid i've ever seen yeah he really is
Stan Jump Pike is one of those guys that you like think maybe is good.
Mommy.
It's bad.
It's like he just sucks.
When I went to when I went to Harry Power World, that was one of my favorite parts.
They had a big like fake night bus.
I got to stand.
I took a picture with the guide who was dressed as Stan Jump Pike.
When I went to Harry Potter World, I didn't ride on the night bus.
I wrote on like the train to Hogwarts.
Yes, yes, yes.
That is also very cool.
Yes.
I do like that as well.
Yeah, they get on, he gets picked up by the night bus.
There's the shrunken head.
There's, you know, squishing in between.
That's when there's like a little bit more of some comedic moments, you know?
But that's also when I started thinking it was a horror film.
A little scary.
It was a little scared.
Well, you do see, you know, there is the black dog that he's waiting for,
that he sees when he's waiting for the night bus.
Who is serious?
I think you were going to ask us who he is
and I was like
Yeah yeah
And who was it
Who was it?
Pick me, pick me
Yeah, you're serious
That's when I look down
Like my contact with a teacher
It starts casually
typing on the laptop
What that super bad scene
He's like
Yeah
Yeah
I was the queen of doing that in school
Like pretending to think about the question
When your teacher's looking at you
But you're really just trying to get the answer off
Everyone else's papers
So
So
Harry gets picked up
He goes to Leaky Cauldron, you know, everybody finds him.
Minister of Magic is like, ah, no worries, you blew up your aunt, we'll take care of it.
But, because they're all worried about Sirius Black.
This is the thing.
They're trying to keep Harry safe.
He doesn't know who Serious Black is, but he knows, like, they don't want him near him.
They're all going back to Mr. Weasley says, like, you know, they don't want me to tell you, but Serious Black, he's out.
Like, be careful.
Grave danger.
Yeah, you're in grave danger.
Nothing like sending a, like, 13-year-old off to school.
cool like dude you're in grave danger good luck man yeah there's not much we can do but just
you know everyone's right here um thing is he's a fucking wizard yeah but i mean so is ron but like i
would entrust ron also like so serious black so right but shouldn't they know like where he is
or no but shouldn't they know if if harry later in the film finds out that serious was one of
harry's uh parents best friends then how come they don't know they don't know because the world
that serious is the one that betrayed Harry's parents.
The world thinks that he double-crossed Harry's parents.
You know what?
And that's what I wrote in my notes.
Because it's Gary Oldman, that's interesting because he's in Batman,
and that was kind of what happened to Batman,
where everyone thought Batman was the villain.
He wasn't.
I love when movies crossed over like that.
Gary Oldman, great actor.
Phenomen, great actor.
And he plays Sirius Black.
He's such a great series Black.
That's why I liked him.
Yeah?
We'll wait till the end of the film.
Yeah.
What are thoughts and dementors?
Those things are pretty scary, huh?
Oh, did I delete one of them?
No, you said you were like, did Harry just get his soul sucked out of him?
I think that you wrote that down when they were on the train.
Yes.
They're on the way to school and the dementers show up and they're sitting with Lupin in the, but he's asleep in the.
Frightening, but adds an interesting layer to the story.
Yeah.
But also it's like you think they're bad, but they're really trying to be good.
Like, no, like they're, very bad.
Dementors?
Yeah.
Like they are.
They are bad.
They're bad. They're trying to get serious, aren't they?
No. I mean, yes, they're looking for serious, but, like, there's no reason for them to just randomly start, like, trying to attack Harry.
That's what I thought, too, but I'm like, oh, like, they're supposed to be good. No, they're, like, objectively pretty shitty. They're bad. They're called dementals.
Like, they're, they're, and look, they're used to protect a bad place. So, like, they are equally bad. Like, they're used to protect Ascaband, which is, you know, where all the evil witches and wizards are. And so, like, they have to be equally evil. And so, like, they have to be equally evil.
but there's like no reason for them you know that's why dumbledore is like i was promised they were
going to stay on the outskirts of school grounds because they just and they instill fear in you
like without even passed out without yeah i mean without even like like you said like sucking the soul
out of you they bring they it's everything gets chilled you feel cold like you get scared they're not
they're not nice i i never thought they were nice i was always under the impression they were bad
Yeah, and they're pretty freaky looking.
Like, it's one thing I remember, like, reading about them in the book.
But they're, yeah, yeah.
They are, they're pretty freaky for, for sure.
We get to school and we find out that big, big day for Hagrid, promoted, he's a teacher.
I was really happy for him.
Can you believe it? He loves magical creatures.
He does.
He's going to be in charge of them, or teaching about them.
He does.
He still kind of does not really know what he's doing.
That was one of my favorite lines where he's like,
like, how am I doing?
Yeah, he's like, am I doing good?
I will say this.
He plays favorites, obviously.
Yeah, that he does.
I mean, Harry, you're not going to love Harry Potter.
Yeah, well, the thing is,
Malfoy does suck, but you could tell Hagrid
is playing favorites towards Harry.
He's like, you could check this out,
but Malfoy, you can't.
But that's fair, you know, you got to be a day.
Without them, he's not coming out of Asapen at the end of the second one.
So, yeah, they are definitely his favorites.
But that's where we meet Buckbeak.
Buckbeak is pretty cool
He's a hippogriff
Thoughts on Buckbeek
Wait what is he a hippo
A hippogriff
A hippogriff
Is that a mix of a
HIPPO
O-G-R-I-FF
Or it has nothing to do with real animals
I don't
Because it's definitely
He's got no hippopotamus in him
That's for sure
Well okay so I thought he was pretty cool
Yeah
Thought he was sick
This is where I wrote down
That it would be sick
If I could fly on an animal
And not get hurt
Right
Because my question is
Can he pretty
attack Harry at all cost
if something happens in the
air, right? Like if Harry's on him
Kind of like a dragon. Right, yes, because I
Yes, that's what my exact thought was.
Like, how much control does
he have of how hurt Harry gets?
I don't think really
any. He's, yeah.
Which is why I wrote down what I wrote. Right, yeah.
A hippogriff
is
the, the
four parts of a winged
Griffin and the body
of in the body
and high in quarters of a horse.
Kind of just crazy they threw Harry on
with like no warning. It's like all right, go ride
this thing. Yeah. What if you fall off?
He's a wizard.
You know what he's crazy is like these things
like sometimes you forget like
obviously mythical creatures
and this is the class
care for magical you know
mythical creatures, magical creatures,
whatever you want to call them. And
a hippogriff
like is really
a mythical creature. It's like not something
that was made up for Harry Potter.
Oh, like,
in the Bible.
Well, there's definitely no hippogriffs in the Bible,
but it is a legendary,
a legendary creature.
It was invented by Ludovicho Ariosto
at the beginning of the 16th century
in a poem.
He wrote about it.
The hippogriff is a steed born of a mare and a griffin,
something considered impossible.
It is extremely fast and is presented as being
able to fly around the world and to the moon.
That's so is...
And then, you know, J.K. Rowling just plucked that
for a character.
That's a good character for Harry Potter.
Totally. Totally a good character. I'm a big fan of Buckbeak.
Also, a great part of these movies is when
they just have...
Like, they're getting older, right? So, like, they are doing, like,
kid stuff, like, teen stuff. It's like, oh,
after class, you get to go to Hogsmeat and hang
out with your friends, but if you don't have your permission
slip side, you can't go.
I was so pissed.
Also, like,
yeah, just forge it.
Yeah, that doesn't seem to cross
his mind. Or like, you're a wizard.
Like, no, like, yes, but on the other side
of that, there is probably
something that Professor McGonagall could
use to test if it was forged or not.
That is a good counterpoint. Like, I bet you could
test if magic was used
on this slip. We have two opposing
wizards right now in front of me. It's whose
magic will win. Yeah, exactly.
I sense a duel. Yeah.
So he obviously
he's dying to go to Hogsmead wants to go. So
brings out the old invisibility cloak.
He gets the
Morridor's Map from
Fred and George.
I think the invisibility cloak is
one of the things that I am most
interested in. Yeah. In having in my own life.
Yeah. Invisibility cloak
is awesome. And
and you know is important down the line would be dangerous for me feel like you end up hearing
things you don't want to hear yeah yeah definitely no it's like yeah do not come near me here in the
invisibility club i'm just saying like sometimes if i'm like if there's people in another room
i'll shut the door just because i don't want to hear something that i don't need to know you said this
about the bathroom i said this about the bathroom too when that's a thing that i do i'm sure a lot of
people do when people if I'm in a stall and someone walks into the bathroom on a public bathroom
I have to like cough or like make no just so that they know someone's in there yeah I don't want
any weird stuff happening and I'm like stuck in the stall very fair no doesn't want any shenan
type thing could have like or you hear some some shit for you type thing you hear some shit
talking yeah that's like yeah I don't want to hear I don't want to hear yeah yeah I think that's super
fair um what did we think of the map the map the map the map that
that shows where everybody is in the castle.
Oh.
I feel like that's a dangerous thing to have.
It's like one of those.
Now, that's like the Snapchat map.
Yeah, it's like a Snapchat.
I shut that shit off.
I don't have Snapchat.
Marauders map is just a Snapchat map.
It's just, that's where Snapchat got the idea.
I think they got it pretty easily too.
They're like, where'd you get it?
Yeah, it's explained a little bit more.
Hey, where'd you get that map?
Oh, I found it on the desk over there.
Things were explained a little bit more in the, in the,
in the books, but like, Masters, Mooney, Wormtail, Pathfoot, and Prong, like,
Prague, they're all, I guess I can just say it.
I don't think there's, like, some big reveal about it, but that is them.
Like, that is Harry's dad and their friends.
It's like, it was their map.
That makes time.
That's why Lupin was like, I haven't seen that in a long time.
Like, where the fuck did you find that?
I would have thought there's, like, multiple ones.
There's only one.
No, that's it.
One.
That's the one.
And so obviously when he sees, like, Peter Pedigrew on the map, he freaks out
because he finds out listening to spying
on the rest of the group
that McGonagall's like, you know,
and worst of all, he's Harry Potter's Godfather.
Yes.
Yeah, that's actually...
I felt like I was watching The Godfather for a second.
I know. One of my favorite parts
to go back and laugh at,
and Daniel Rackleff did progressively
become like a better and better actor,
but the tears that he has
after he finds that out
and Harry and Ron
Ron and Hermione
go to chase him
and he's like still under the cloak
and he's like
oh
poor where we're laughing
at poor Harry
He's footsteps
No it was just like
It was just the sound
he was making
Because then it's like
When he takes it off
And he's like
He was their friend
And like yells
That's all right
Now we're getting somewhere
It's better at him
I was like you don't want to get
Harry angry
Yeah this is
You know
Harry's good when he's angry
Yeah the anger is for sure
coming through
but that was like when you just see the footsteps and Ron Hermione and you just hear like
ooh-oh-oh-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo.
Harry, are you in here?
It's like, what?
What's going on?
But I'm trying to think.
The Dementers play a part, obviously, in the Quidditch match and the thunderstorm and everything.
Quiddish has played in all elements, just want to get that out there.
I love that.
Yeah.
It's like historic that they like do not really.
cancel matches for anything.
As they shouldn't.
Yeah.
NFL, quidditch.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like, they should be playing at all times, although not well for Harry.
Yeah.
This didn't go well for him.
No, no, no.
It definitely did not.
His broom gets absolutely wrecked.
He ends up in the informerry a lot.
Infirmary.
The informary.
Well, he does learn a lot of things in the infirmary, so.
I meant to say infirmary.
What did they do to say him from falling from the sky?
Like, like, was that Dumbledore?
Like, he just like,
was like caught him or something?
He throws out some kind of spell
that either it's, I don't know, stops him
in midair or...
It's like, oh, he's just falling to his death
and makes like...
What about those things?
We didn't talk about this
and I think this happened before this
I'm pretty sure.
The things that they were eating
and then barking.
Yeah, they were all hanging out.
They were all hanging out
and they were like making the animal sounds.
Rowing. Yeah, that boys being boys.
Yeah, I was like, what's good?
They're having a nice sleepover.
Yeah.
Like that's just an instant.
side look at what's happened in the Gryffindor
dormitory. They were just saying it out. Yeah.
Ron's like he's a lion, roaring like a lion.
I was like, oh, that's when I was tripping.
I was like, yeah. He was like,
he was like, what the fuck?
Well, that's happening. Because it also
just didn't really match up.
Yes. Hearing a growl like
that come out of Ron made me feel uneasy.
So what's also
like a big part of them going to
Hogsmead is like there's all these other
places and shops like for them to go
to. So like there's Honeydukes
in Hogsmead, which is like the sweet shop.
And so that's probably like
that's something you could probably pick up at honeydews.
I just got these crazy mushrooms.
Let's take them later.
And let's try to see what happens.
Exactly.
I like him in Buckford you didn't say
when he hurt.
When he hurt Malfoy?
That was fine.
And Haggard was like,
oh, whatever, you're fine.
Yeah.
And of course, like, he just was like,
wait until my father hears about this.
Draco actually is probably one of the ultimate,
like, do you know who my dad is?
Kids.
He really is.
He didn't really do much for me in this movie.
He was like a little bitch in this movie.
For sure.
Hermione punches him in the face.
It's awesome.
He like runs away.
That was like my favorite.
I favorite part of this movie too.
What do I want to say?
Oh, the bugger, boggarts.
I always say this weird boggars.
What are you saying?
With the clown when they're like, oh, you have to do what you're scared of and then they
turn it into something funny.
Did not like that.
Did not like that.
I have to say, as I've gone.
gotten older, that clown has gotten
scarier and scarier. Like it used to not
bother me that much, but it got scary
and scary. Have you noticed that things get scarier
when you get older? Yeah. And that's like
correct me if I'm wrong, but I think
that was like supposed to be the funny thing. Like it turned into that.
Yeah. Like that was supposed to be funny. What I said
is actually the opposite of how people usually feel is like they were scared of
things and they got older and got rid of it. No. I think
I definitely get more scared of sometimes scared of things
you get older. Yeah, I am so much more scared of things than I
Yeah.
When I was a kid.
Because I feel like you're kind of naive as a kid.
Yeah.
I don't think I was really scared of much.
I liked scary movies.
I wasn't afraid of the dark.
Like,
nothing scared me.
No,
I feel like that.
I'm afraid of a lot of things now.
Yeah.
Yeah,
I'm afraid of a lot of things.
I'm more paranoid.
It's like realistic, like,
life things.
It's not like fictional.
Like,
I could be scared in the moment,
but I'm not like,
oh my God.
Like, I'm not thinking about that clown
for the rest of the night.
Yeah.
I guess that's true.
There's a big buildup,
obviously,
to the end of this movie.
the Bertronis. You're like, why that's got to come into play at some point.
Professor Trelawney, played by the great Emma Thompson, is...
A lot of good actors.
Yeah, there's some really great actors in these movies.
And she's like, the grim and they're doing the divin...
Oh, God, I can't say this word.
Divination.
Divin...
Shoot, Fran.
Sounds good to me.
Oh boy
It is
Divination
I said it right
Divination
The grim
She gets like
She's
She's funky
Professor Chalani
And Hermione is just like
Showing up in classes
That Ron's like
How the fuck did you get here?
You just popped out of nowhere
And she's taking all the classes
Most Hermione thing ever
To literally use like something
So that she could put more classes
On her schedule
in case she could go to do more school.
Yeah, and Hermione, like, didn't like the class, like...
Yeah, because she's practical, and divination is, like, very, you know, prophecies and cup readings.
Like, she's more like, give me the, give me what I can learn in a book.
Mm-hmm.
More straightforward.
And...
Did you base your personality off Hermione growing up?
I was just thinking that.
100%.
I feel like, for...
and yeah like 100%
not like a role model not like fully on purpose
but I think I just really liked her
and liked her character that I wanted to be like her
not I don't think I ever had a moment when I was like 13
being like I'm gonna act exactly like Hermione
I just think it sort of just happened
I think it just sort of started to happen
a lot of parallels
yes yeah which is why when I was talking about
on our episode when we were talking about the reunion and I was like
I like literally like cried at the end for so long
because it was like Emma Watson
may be emotional talking about Hermione
but we can talk about that later.
The
the big moment
Buckbeak is like sentenced to death
because Drake goes a little bitch
and the executioners come in
they're taking, so they're going
to see Hagrid
before it happens.
Buckbeak, they get sent away.
Buckbeak is
killed and
scabbards.
No buckbeaks were hurting the
making of this movie. Yes, yeah. Yeah. No hippogriffs. No hippogriffs.
Scabbers runs into the freaking
wamping willow. Ron, it's just a whole disaster. Then the dog comes
out and they're chasing the dog is chasing scabbers. He freaks out.
Everybody's going into the whopping willow, which then brings them to the shrieking
shack, which is where you get the big revelation. Now, a lot of
animals in this film. Yeah. There are. There are. Not the biggest fan of
scabbers just because I don't like rats.
Super fair. And I feel like, you know,
if Ron likes him, that's cool.
But I'm not the biggest fan.
Right. And I mean, they didn't know he was a person.
Yeah. Right. Like they've had him. He has,
he has been in rat form for 12 years.
Exactly. Which is crazy.
Which is why when he turns in back
into a human, he's very raty.
Does he think like a human while
he's a rat? Or is he like,
or he's like taken out from ringing around?
He's like, oh, like, it's just like.
I, to be honest, I'm not totally.
Totally sure. And I think you're still thinking like a person. A person. Like when Sirius is like, oh, your, like, your dad joke with me that I should be a dog, like, permanently. But I couldn't deal with the fleas. I think it's kind of like twilight when they become the werewolves. They're still in the mind of like who they are as humans. They're just in the werewolf form.
Yeah.
Yeah. Anamagus is, it's just what you, the only information really is is,
who could transform themselves into an animal and back again at will.
It's a learned skill unlike the hereditary skill of metamorphosis.
Information on, and it's taught in the third year transfiguration class.
Because Professor McGonigal turns into a cat.
You all saw that happen, obviously, in the first one.
She does that.
You know, I'm honestly not quite sure.
I think that you can.
It would be my guess.
Yes.
And you also, like, can still, like, live a longer life.
as a, like, in your animal form.
Because like they're saying, like, you think it's kind of weird for a rat to live 12 years
and like a common rat to live 12 years because he was actually Peter Pettigrew.
Right, but probably harder, easier to die as the animal.
Yeah, it's, he really made his way into the right family when he landed as the pets for the
for the Weasley's.
But no, he comes back.
Lupin shows up, Sirius is there, and Ron's like, he's an out of Vegas, it's him, and then they
realize they're actually not bad. Right. So then Harry realizes these are his parents' best
friends. Yeah, correct. His dad's best friends. Yeah. He already knew that about Lupin,
right? Because they had talked a ton about it. But when Lupin and Sirius hug and they're like,
you're like, what the fuck. They're allies. Yes. And Peter is the bad guy. Yeah. And you
you tell just by how ugly he is.
He's disgusting. Yeah, he's just gross.
He's really gross looking.
He's a perfect little like
Goldemort henchman looking.
And so he's the actual problem.
Yeah. And that's why in my notes I said people are getting
framed left away in these films.
The last one was Hagrid. It wasn't him.
And now in this film, they're getting framed.
Yeah. Not them. They're actually good guys.
They are. They're actually trying to help Harry.
And Snape comes in.
Useless.
So I actually.
But there's a lot of history with Snape that I feel like also is just not, you guys just don't know yet.
I'm not going to explain a lot of it.
But like they also were all in school at the same time, which they kind of referenced these.
And when Sirius is like, why don't you go play with your toy chemistry set or whatever the fuck he says?
He, like they were all in school together.
And Snape was like a loser.
And they were like the cool kids.
Which is why I kind of like Snape.
Yeah.
because I'm confused and I don't know what's going on with him.
I feel like we're going to find like a discovery story about him eventually.
Yeah.
Which I've said the last two times.
Or it's going to be like, oh, it makes sense now why he's always in these movies but never really doing that much.
Yeah.
But always looking really suspicious.
Always looking very suspicious.
And one of the...
Is he related to Harry?
Is he related to Harry?
Yeah.
No.
Okay.
I'll tell you.
I'll just, I'll cross that theory off the list.
He, there is like, which kind of shows sort of where his heart lies.
Like there's moments where you're like, okay, he really, like, hates Harry.
And there's moments where like, maybe he doesn't hate Harry that much.
Or maybe he like cares a little bit or doesn't care.
Like when Lupin takes the wearable form.
Did Stap used to date Harry's mom?
That would be crazy.
He's like, Harry, I'm your father.
Snape's actually Harry's real dad
Yeah
But he like
You never know
Everyone's somebody else
He puts the
He puts all three of the kids
Like behind his back
That's when I was like
Oh shit
Snakes a good guy
Yeah
You know
So there are moments
Where you're like okay
But
And then Harry just
Fucked him up
Yeah they kind of fuck up
He's chasing after
Serious
Because they're fighting
Lupin
Lupin's a werewolf
By the way
Oh Lupin is a werewolf
and they could chase down to the lake
and the deventors are there
and they're like very close to giving
Sirius the kiss where he's just toast
he's just like a vegetable
and Harry sees like someone across the lake
doing the protronus saves them
they wake up in the...
He thinks it's his dad by the way
and Hermione's like
he's dead
your dad's dead
but they're and then they're back in the
informer hand
And they...
Yep.
And they learn.
And they learn.
They're learning in there.
Well, Dumbledore's like, hey, you might be able to save two souls.
And Hermione whips out the time turner.
It's like, oh shit, this is how...
This is how she's been able to get to all of her classes.
And they go back.
They are able to save Buckbeak.
They use Buckbeak to run away.
They use Buckbeak.
to help with
werewolf Lupin
in that time
and they
that's also when Harry's like
when Hermione's like nobody's coming
and Harry performs the
patroness to save himself.
Yes.
Harry realizes it's just himself.
It's just him which is a common
mistake because everyone does say
that they look alike.
Oh yeah.
It's just
and they're able to
go back
get serious out of the
Tower or Buckbeak, they fly away.
They're good to go.
Good moment.
Good moment.
The end of the movie, I was like,
Harry's on top again.
Yeah, he is.
Like, that's, that Harry.
I feel like one of these movies coming up,
it's going to end bad for Harry.
It has to.
It genuinely has to.
Things start to take a turn in the next one.
I'm not going to lie.
He can't win them all.
Yeah.
That'll have to be like, impossible.
It's like an Avengers type where you're like,
you're like, oh my, like the ending is terrible.
And then the next movie.
Yeah, no, no.
There's eight.
There's eight films.
There are eight films.
Not even half a foot.
No, no, no.
But there's, yeah, there's definitely a lot of underlying moments there, like, towards the end of just relationships.
He got a new broomstick.
He got a firebolt.
He, like.
And you're looking up there.
Yeah.
You got a new iPhone.
He, like, possibly has, like, the godfather that he could, like, live with instead of the, instead of the jerseys, which would be huge.
but you know yeah he's still serious black still very wanted very a very wanted man so he can't just like start living
not the hero we need but the one we deserve yeah series is at the top of my list of favorite characters
yeah he is a good one because i'm rooting for him because this is unfair i know and the moments like that
that moment the weasle think he's a bad guy the moment right before lupin changed he's a bad guy
I know.
The moment right before Lupin changes and like they're, you know, they're looking.
He's like looking at the castle.
He's like if you, you know, talking about living with each other.
It's very sweet.
It's very sweet.
And from, because I said I did watch the reunion.
Yeah.
But it was interesting, like, them talking about when Gary Oldman was on set.
Yeah.
And just like, I think it was like Daniel Radcliffe who was just so like starstruck by him.
But he said he was like, it was crazy to have like such a real actor like acting with him.
Yeah, probably learned a lot too.
Yeah, so they said like he was like,
taught them a ton.
Which is, it is very, very cool.
I mean, between like, between all the teachers, Maggie Smith,
obviously, like, multiple Dumberdoor characters,
Emma Thompson,
Alan Rickman, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman,
Voldemort is Ralph Fines.
Like, there's some, like, really, I'm trying to think of,
Oscar.
Helena Bonham Carter.
Like there's some fairly big actress.
What did you guys think of new Dumbledore?
He's a little bit more spry.
This.
I mean, Richard Harris, like, he only did the first two.
And then he died, which sucked, like,
because he was a great Dumbledore, but he was very old.
Dumbledore just hasn't done it for me.
I was like, I have to just admit.
I didn't even notice.
You didn't even notice the new Dumbledore?
No, I didn't.
He moved so much.
Faster.
He's got a different,
and he's got a different voice.
Neither did it.
I was just like,
oh,
there's that old Dumbled door.
That's why I said Dumbledore
doesn't really do it for me
because I honestly like,
neither of you noticed this was an entirely new actor.
No,
I didn't.
They both look like old guys with white hair.
I also did not notice
and I didn't want to be the one to say it,
but I'm happy you did.
Unbelievable.
I thought I was going to get in trouble
if I said it.
So I was like,
he doesn't really do it for me.
Which once again,
clearly he doesn't because I didn't notice it.
They probably wanted to do it
when you didn't notice.
They did.
They did like and Michael
Imagine your kid watching and you're like, wait, that's not Dumbledo.
Yeah, yeah.
Michael Gambin did try and like take a lot of cues from Richard Harris,
who's the first guy who played him.
But Michael Gamin also was just like he wanted to play the role a little bit differently
and have Dumbledore be like a little bit more involved.
Like there's way more moments in this one where Dumbledore is more involved or like just a little cheekier.
He's just like doing backflips.
like he's right he's like moving up the stairs i feel like when he moves up the stairs to go when the fat
lady they can't find the fat lady uh the porch or the fat lady and he's moving pretty quick i feel like that's
weird i don't know if i if i was a director i would be like no just just stay old like
he's very old no no i know but i'm saying like don't all of a sudden act differently yeah yeah yeah
i guess but i mean i didn't notice so i mean either of you noticed so we did a great job
He did a great job anyway.
Let's talk favorite characters and who are interested in the most.
Let's relist them.
Let's talk about them before we do that.
Let's talk about Coors.
We are really enjoying rewatching these movies.
I think Ray and I have our setup down.
Whatever day of the week it is, we're home.
We cuddle up.
We get a snack.
We have to clear our schedule.
There's no distractions.
Got to be fully Harry Potter.
We have made that very clear.
Yes, we have.
Which is why we also enjoy it with a nice cold Coors Lights are, you know, the official beer of chicks in the office.
We love Coors Light.
So the best way to enjoy any of these movies, you're sitting at home, you turn the lights off, you just sit back on your couch, you grab your Corse Light, and you're ready to go.
There's so many stresses and pressures and things happening in your life that sometimes you just need a moment to chill to unwind.
and doing that while watching a Harry Potter film is an amazing combination.
So Coors Light, you guys know, the mountains on the bottles and cans, turn blue when your beer is cold.
That way you always know when it's time to chill.
Coorslight is cold loggered, cold filtered, and cold packaged.
It's literally made to chill.
I actually would say if there was an official, this might not sound great because we know dementors are bad.
But if there was to be an official beer of the dementers, it would be Coors Light.
always colds. They're bringing the chill.
There you go. They're bringing the chill.
They are. So.
Dementors like beer too.
Yeah. Yes, they do.
The Coorsight is as crisp and refreshing as the Colorado Rockies.
Perfect for a moment to unwind.
So Coorslight is the one we choose when we need to unwind.
So when you want to hit reset, reach for the beer that's made to chill.
Get Coors Light in the new look delivered straight to your door with Drizzly or Instacart.
But going to Coorslight.com slash chicks.
And always celebrate responsibly.
This is coming from the Coors Brewing Company.
Golden, Colorado. Okay, so my favorite
characters. Okay, yeah. We got new ones.
I will read again
second movie
for this, for Chamber of Secrets, this is the list
you gave me. Snape, Harry, Ron,
Hagrid, Draco, Hermione, McGonagall, Double Door.
Okay. We can
add in new characters because there's new people. We can take
people off. I just want to restart. Yeah, restart. Fresh start.
This is for
third movie. Okay. Who we got?
serious?
Yep
But is your favorite?
These are my favorites
I'm gonna put
Have you been doing favorite
or be doing this is the one where
This is the one where we did
Who are you most interested?
Oh most I'm serious
I'm serious
I'm still very interested in it
Yeah
Is he gonna be
I mean I guess you can't tell us
But like I kind of took it as like
We're not gonna see much more of him
But maybe we will
I would think we're gonna see more of him
Why would you think I would give you an answer to that
No no I'm not saying you will
But I'm just like that's how I took it
of like, I was like, oh, I don't expect to see that much of him in the upcoming.
He's a pretty important character.
Well, I would say he's important because now people are still looking for him.
Yeah.
Okay.
Serious?
Yeah.
I'm going to keep Snape up there just for the sole reason I need to know more about this man.
Yeah.
Um.
I would say Snape's probably my number one.
Like, I'm going to.
Serious Snape.
And then Harry's got to stay up top.
Yeah.
The three of them have to.
Ron Hermione.
Harry Ron Hermione.
They all stay pretty up top.
Draco, I'm not interested in.
Let's take him off.
You can take him off.
Like, I'm just not interested in him anymore.
He's been removed.
Any other new characters we met this episode,
or this episode, this movie?
Does Buckbeak count?
Sure.
Put him on there.
RIP.
RIP.
Buckbeak's alive.
He's alive now.
He's alive.
Yeah, they didn't actually kill him.
They saved me.
Remember Dumbled was like you could save two soul?
Well, RIP for a second.
Yes, RIP for a second, but then he...
Maybe I'll put Buckbeek above Ron and Hermione.
Harry Buckbeak, then Ron and Hermione.
Tough for Ron.
No, no, no, no.
Actually, put Buckbee below the two kids.
Okay.
Is looping on this list anywhere?
Oh, yes.
But I'm not as interested in him as I am serious.
You can put him anywhere.
You can put him at the bottom.
You can put him after Buckbeek.
Yeah.
And then put Hagrid.
Okay.
and then McGonagall and Dumbledore,
I'm still not very interested.
Okay, why don't we just wipe them from the list then?
You're not even, you're not involved right now.
Maybe you will be.
Maybe a little bit.
These characters, I'm interested.
Give me another Dumbledore.
Give me a new guy.
Yeah, yeah.
Switch it up again, see if we notice.
Now, for, I guess, like,
I guess it's pretty similar, right,
as just, like, favorite characters.
Yeah, that's all, it's all, like, very similar.
Well, no, because I wouldn't say Snape is my favorite character.
Yeah.
I'm just most interesting.
But you still put serious at the top.
I would put serious at the top as a favey.
Yeah.
All the kids, obviously.
Yeah, I would keep that list kind of similar besides Snape.
It's not a favor.
I'm just very interested in him.
Okay.
What, were there any favorite character moments for the big three?
Harry Ron Hermione, did you have any favorite character moments?
punching
Draco in the face
Also Hermione just telling Harry
Like your dad's dead
Yeah
Like just quick reminder
Yeah
The group hug
Group hug
The hand
Grab between Ron and Hermione
Which is going to be interesting
Later on
Yeah
Which I think I already know
Ron's gonna get jealous
Ron
And those weird things they were eating
When the boys were hanging out
Reyes just like
I gotta find the name of those
That just made me laugh
Like I was like
Wait a second
what's happening here.
And I like Harry, and I think I said this, the last movie, too.
I just like Harry when he gets angry.
And he's very protective of his family and his parents in which he does not know.
Yeah.
I was just sound producing sweets.
Sound producing sweets.
Which they get in Honeyducks.
And yeah, I think I like when Harry gets angry.
I think that's interesting.
And we see the most emotion out of him then and those other moments.
I named for
this is
just from a soul
like who
I was like
oh I got
now I like them more
like Dan and Rockcliffe had his moment
he was getting there
not quite
when I first watched these movies
when this one happened I was like
Ron's getting kind of cute
the third
one there and they all
they're all just looking
grown up so a little bit more grown up
which is a thing
Noah if any what are
favorite character moments. Can I say something before he says that about the growing up?
Yeah. They had no idea how these kids were going to grow up and look. They got grown up and look
real ugly. Yeah. That didn't happen. It didn't happen. All good looking people. That didn't happen.
But you never know when you're casting young kids. You're true. That is true. How would you rank them today?
Like I'm saying, like Emma Watson is one of the most beautiful girls ever. Yeah. And both of them are
like handsome handsome men. So I'm just saying you just never know. Yeah. Yeah.
Favorite character moments?
I said earlier, but the Hagrid, like,
asking how he's doing as a teacher.
Yeah.
Made me laugh.
Definitely, like, when Hermione beat up.
Yeah.
I liked Snape. Like, when Snape came in and saved them,
I, like, gained respect for Snape and kind of, like, on Team Snape now.
Super fair. Super fair.
For me, like, my favorite Harry moment in this movie is,
It is really cruel, but it is that those weird, the crying under the invisibility cloak makes me laugh every time.
Ron, I always laughed at Ron's just like, it was the same kind of thing with Chamber of Secrets.
Not really, because Hermione was petrified, but like Ron, they just leave Ron in the bed and they come back.
And he's like, you were just there.
Now you're here.
And they're like, don't fucking worry about it, Ron.
Shut up, Ron.
You don't need to know what just happened.
And then one of my favorite Hermione lines, this movie is when they're in Hagrid's hut and Buckbeak's about to get killed and she has to throw the stone things to break the vase.
Hilarious, amazing aim.
No one can do that.
It cracks me up every time.
But also when they run, when the three of them run out and then Harry and Hermione have to run behind the trees and Hermione's like, is that really what my
hair looks like from the back.
That was good.
That is like my favorite curly hair girl like thing because there's been so many times when
you're, every girl has had that moment.
They see the back of their head and they're like, is that really what my fucking
hair looks like from the back?
That's why I don't let anyone film me from the back or let me see the back of my head
because I'm rolling up like I'm in seventh grade.
The classic middle school for getting straight in the back.
Yeah.
Like I felt like that was such a great teen moment.
Now, like I said,
at the beginning, this was a different
director. Alfonso Caron,
you know, well-known, big director.
He's obviously done more things like post-that.
But I'm
just curious, like, if you guys
felt that watching.
Absolutely. Like, it had, if it had different
vibes. Yeah.
Definitely. I liked this movie
way better than the first two.
Okay. And I, and this is the thing
my ratings are going to be so weird going
forward because the first
two, I... This is the thing. I like that
we're going to rate each movie as we watch.
When we get to the end and finish eight,
we can go back and redo all of them.
We'll regrade. I definitely liked
the second one better than the first, but I
like the third one better than both of them. Because I
felt like there were so many different layers
and I actually felt like even though there were
a lot of different layers to this one,
I felt like I understood it a lot more
than the first two. Or
just the second one. I understood the first one.
The first one was plain and simple, learning
about it. Second one, I
understood um you just become more familiar yes i think maybe it's more so that i just know it a lot
better now because of watching the first two yeah but i even though i said it was scary and and whatever
i actually think that adds a lot more to the movie and it's definitely not like a kid film to me
anymore no no what did you did you sense it like could you oh yeah because i feel like they're a
big movie buff definitely like darker uh yeah just overall and like more cinematic yeah it's
definitely more cinematic and the way it's definitely more cinematic and the way
The more times I watch it, the more changes I see.
You know, like, he changed a bunch of stuff.
You know, he changed the locations of things.
Like, the Wamping Willow's kind of in a different place.
Haggert's Hut looks different than the past movies.
This one I would have loved to see in theaters.
Yeah.
Especially when he's flying on Buckbeak for the first time.
Like that, and I wrote down beautiful scenery.
Like, you could tell that that would have looked really good in theater.
Definitely just like the whole like landscape and everything.
Because in the second one, even when they fell down, what was that called?
where they all fell down the hole,
like that whole thing.
Oh, they went into the chamber secrets.
The chamber secrets, yeah.
Literally the name of the movie.
What was that hole called?
Harry Potter and the chamber secrets.
Yeah, the chamber secrets.
I was like, you could, I almost could tell like it was a set.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, like it didn't look as real.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I think the second one being about something, I liked this one, I think, better because it was
about the people, right?
Like, right?
Right, you're learning more about Harry and his parents and his family.
And they're looking for people and serious.
And there's so many layers to the people where it's like Chamber of Secrets was a place.
Yeah.
And things weren't real in there.
Like, you know, they were, but they weren't.
Like the whole, you know I was thrown off by the whole Voldemort thing and his younger self.
I'm like, what the fuck's going on here?
I still liked it a lot.
But I enjoyed this one the most so far.
Okay.
So let's do final scores for.
prisoner of
Ascaban. I'll go over.
I will say this was for
Chamber of Secrets. Ria went
7.6. Noah went
7.3 and I did a
7 flat. So what do we feel
for prisoner of Ascaban? I would love to lower
my second film score, but we'll do it at the end.
We'll do it at the end. I'm going to give this
one an 8.4.
Okay.
Noah?
I still like
like the first one, I think.
That's fine.
I forgot to write down our first movie scores.
I think I give the first one, seven, eight.
I got to, we got to, when we, we'll go, go back and listen and tell me so we can write them down.
Yeah.
I'll give this one a seven, seven.
Seven, seven.
Prisoner basketball band is one of my, is one of my faves.
This one for me is, like I said, I say this every time.
I do have the advantage of seeing any other movies.
but I will score solely based on this movie alone
is like an
it's very similar to you Rhea I would go like 8-3
I was going to move mine down to an 8-3
yeah so but I'll keep mine in at an 8-4
I'll change it to an 8-3 if you would like me to change it to an 8-3
I'd like to change it to a battery
Ria and Fran are going in at an 8-3
Noah is 7-7
and yes this is a great jumping point
because like you said we actually are starting to learn more
like about Harry's family
which connects a lot to Voldemort
and whatnot, and then four is...
I'm kind of missing Voldemore in this one.
Four is...
Yeah, I thought he was going to pop up at any time.
Four is pretty explosive.
What's the name of it?
Harry Potter and the Gobel of Fire.
Okay.
The Gobble of Fire,
just for some early background for you two,
is they host the Tri-Wizard tournament
at Hogwarts.
And basically students from all other
like wizard schools,
and witch schools from across the world
all come to Hogwarts and they compete in a competition
the best
witches and wizards compete in a competition.
Oh, fuck! So we got different schools? I thought there was only one
wizard school. No, no, no.
Oh!
Yeah, get ready. This is exciting.
Now I'm glad I didn't watch the fourth one.
Yes. So the gobble to fire
is people, the students
put all their names into the goblet of fire
and then the goblet of fire decides who... It's like Love Island.
The Gobble of Fire decides who competes in the Tri-Wizard tournament.
Yeah.
I'm excited for that one.
I just wanted to give you guys a little tease.
No, I like that tease.
That's also one of the really good ones.
That's a good one.
My sister said her favorites are three and four.
All right, any final thoughts?
No, besides, I really liked this one better than the other two.
And I feel like I'm going to keep saying that after everyone.
That's the way series are supposed to go a lot of the time.
But I walked in today and I said to you, crazy film.
Crazy film.
Yeah.
did. I'm looking forward to four now after what you just said. Okay. Awesome. Well, I think that
wrapped it up for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Asap.
