Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, Chicks in the Office listeners, you can find every episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube. Prime members can listen ad free on Amazon Music. What's up, everyone? It's Chicks in the Office with Ria and Fran, giving you that Friday energy on a Friday. Happy Friday, everybody, and happy birthday weekend, Francesca. Hit those lights. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 Happy birthday to Franny Happy birthday to you Well I kind of liked that You were like a little bit In a higher range Yeah I just didn't know what I was going to go with it But happy birthday to you It's birthday weekend
Starting point is 00:00:44 Fran's birthday is This Sunday Birthday That are Eagles gear ready They play at 1 p.m. on Sunday It's a little birthday gift Hopefully they freaking win Are you listen to me Jalen?
Starting point is 00:00:56 You better win Why do I always win the lights Come on I start the retaining the camera really do. The lights come on and you like you pick someone to threaten. I didn't even know I was going to go after Jalen Hurts like that. And you went first name. Just like, listen up, pal.
Starting point is 00:01:11 Yeah, listen up, buddy. Yeah. You better get your team in check. I mean, I know you won the first week. But it's our, no turnovers, lots of, nothing. Whatever that means. It's our girls' birthday and you better provide a win. And I'm talking to the rest of the team too. I mean, we know Jaylon's great. But he can't do everything.
Starting point is 00:01:28 They can't throw in. Catch. He can't throw and catch the ball. So Eagles win. Mount Joy tonight. Let's talk about it. Let's talk about the birthday weekend. Let's kill the lights.
Starting point is 00:01:40 They're playing in, they're playing in Nashville on Sunday. The Eagles is supposed to be really fucking hot. You didn't want to head to. You didn't want to head there for the birthday weekend? I thought about it for like 30 seconds. And then I went, nah. Who am I? That's not, that's, not me at all.
Starting point is 00:01:58 Right. And like, who am I going to take? with me Joe like you know like Joe's not gonna want to do that like that's just and it's our anniversary on Monday right so it's like this is we're in this chunk of five days where it's birthday anniversary birthday and I was like that's not a fun trip for anybody and it's and it's supposed to be a hundred degrees right so that sounds kind of miserable yeah um I'd much rather enjoy it from the comfort of my own home I am wearing this shirt in honor of my dad because no one was more excited for this Eagles Disney collab that I was
Starting point is 00:02:33 because certain teams got certain people, they weren't excited about the character they got, maybe they love them, they don't, the Eagles got Dr. Doom, which objectively you would maybe think that fans would be like, oh, Dr. Doom, like bad villain, you know? Like maybe you don't love that.
Starting point is 00:02:53 However, my dad, we have four years called him Dr. Doom solely because he is the guy who week one play drive Numero he's like, season's over, we stink, implode the team, fire everybody. Like he's always like looking at, he's always like, it's over, we fucking suck. And we'd be like, all right, relax, Dr. Doom, you know? And then when they came out, we said, oh my God, it's just for you. It's perfect. Just for my dad.
Starting point is 00:03:25 So, yeah, that was good when I was. very excited. The collection sold out so fast. And what's so fun is we, you know, we had a little bit of, we have like a little bit of a Disney plug. And they sent us shirts for our teams. And I was the only one that was like, I really fucking want this. And somewhere in this office is my box. I don't know where, but it never made it to me. And she's so nice. When I told her I didn't have the box, she like scavenged around their office and found like one last t-shirt to send to me. And she, like, second aired it, which just, you know, made sure I had it for the first weekend.
Starting point is 00:04:02 So kind. It was very, very, very nice. Well, are we going to talk about the fact that it, the box arrived on the day of the- The box arrived on the day of the security day. So there's a lot going on. And look, was it unfortunate when I asked Noah to double-check the tracking and she sent this screenshot of it was signed for Monday,
Starting point is 00:04:24 August 24th by Danny? I went, oh, no. Danny said if I'm going to get hurt, I'm taking this with me. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, that's, yeah. And he would hate this shirt. Yeah, no, he's a Giants fan. Yeah, so he would hate everything about, he would hate everything about this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:40 But I am very excited for the weekend. I don't know, I don't know if it's just because, like, I keep forgetting it's my birthday. You had all, this whole setup, it was so beautiful, beautiful for me when I walked in. And I was, like, generally surprised because, you know, like, we kind of kind of assume we're doing something for each other. We try to make sure there's something in here. And you always go above and beyond, which I greatly appreciate because I always feel spoiled. But the, but I like, I walked in. I was like, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Really forgot. That's what makes it even better. I don't know if it's because my birthday's hot day. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know. That's what makes it even better. And I honestly wish it was still on the table.
Starting point is 00:05:19 We ate it off. You will see it on trivia. Oh, yes. You will see it on trivia. It was fucking delicious. And we took us our lunch. Yeah. took a big chunk of that bad boy where if it was on display now they'd be like oh wow they
Starting point is 00:05:31 really went in huh ate that whole i was joking to rio when she was talking about what she was going to do for you i was like well you guys didn't really do much for me last year for my birthday remember his 30 before 30 oh yeah i actually dead man looked at me like what are you talking about no no no no i first because the sign's not behind me no no no for a second i quite literally thought shit do we do nothing for no his birthday we went to singapore we literally went to to Singapore for his birthday. We went across the entire world for this guy's birthday. That, to me, feels like that was five years ago.
Starting point is 00:06:05 Oh my God. It's almost a year, isn't it? I can't believe it. It doesn't feel like a year ago, though. Man, good times. No, I look back at the only fondly. Yeah, it was some good times. Some great stories that have never been told on the podcast.
Starting point is 00:06:18 I know. We have some. You know what? Maybe for your birthday this year, we tell the stories on the podcast. I don't see why we can't. No, I think we will. But we have to wait for your birthday so we can reminisce. a one year later situation. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:06:29 One year later. One year later. But no, I got, we just maybe lay in low, we might go out Friday night, go see some friends. And I've talked about this. I say this every single year when it comes to my birthday, but it's like my birthday is the 20th.
Starting point is 00:06:45 My friend Lauren is the 21st. My friend Catherine is the 22nd. So we always try and do some sort of combo situation or just like all plan to do something. Everybody's parents were busy in December, huh? Francesco Noel, you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Nick Jonas, Chase Stokes. Yeah. That's why there's so many September babies. It's New Year's. My and Debbie. My nephew, Mikey. New Year's. They're all this weekend. Christmas, New Year's, everyone's feeling the love around the holidays.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Right. Think about, there are so many September birthdays. I feel like there's the most, I know that's probably impossible. No, I think it is. I just feel like there's so many September birthdays. I think September is the most popular birthday month. Yeah. I wonder what, like, is that, can you find that out? No, I think that's a fact.
Starting point is 00:07:26 It is? August. No, that's just, they're just, August is the most common birthday month overall. Followed closely by July, September, and October. I don't believe August is number one. Oh, no, that says the August, September split. Yeah, it says August, July, October, September. That's, that's of 2020. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:07:45 I guess. I would, I feel like I, I, maybe it's just personally we know so many more people in September. Yeah, I think it's just like around our own circles. It just feels like there's so many September babies. Trying to do the math. It's the same kind of thing. It's August. is around, it's just the cold months
Starting point is 00:07:58 when people got nothing. Thanksgiving, Halloween. They got nothing else to do besides conceived. Around that time. The three of us are all in the, in the, I guess that makes sense then. We are in the hot zone.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Wow. Whoa. Our parents are so unoriginal. Also, my brother and sister are September in August, so it's like, yeah, it kind of makes sense. Yeah, my brother is September. Yeah, yep.
Starting point is 00:08:25 Yeah, there's obviously seems very popular. Sarah's last and my mom's last. Oh, look at that. The most common birthday is actually September 9th. In fact, nine of the 10 most common birthdays in the US are in September. So then how would August be number one? The number one is September. Yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:08:46 I think it's, well, yeah, I guess. It's the amount of people versus the amount of birthday, like the actual birth date. Right. Yeah, it's like you should have a number one. And zero are in August. It's like you could have a number one hit, your one hit wonder, so you actually have like that,
Starting point is 00:09:02 but someone else is more Spotify listeners than you because they have more songs that are good, you know? There's a weird analogy. I'm not following, but I want to. I want to understand you. I don't know if I'm following. I'll be honest, I don't know if I'm following. I yearn to understand you.
Starting point is 00:09:16 We all have birthdays. No, no, I'm saying like. So like, shouldn't that be a one-to-one ratio of like humans to birthdays? Bro. I don't know. know what the fuck either of you were saying and you know what i'm saying is if other people do someone could have a one hit that is more listened to than any song if you were to take the age
Starting point is 00:09:36 if you were to take the year you were born and subtract it from 20 26 you are talking to the wrong person jason jason jason maras i'm yours might have more listens than any song John Mayors ever put out. That's probably not even true. But John Mayer has more catalog. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, but I don't think that comparison doesn't work for birthdays. We only have one.
Starting point is 00:10:09 It's not like I have eight birthdays. No, no, but I'm saying, no, in this scenario, I'm just saying September 9. The months are the people. Yeah, no, September 9th. Like September is John Mayer. No. No, no, it's not. No, August, August is Jason Moore.
Starting point is 00:10:24 No, August is John Meyer and September is Jason Maras. You know, I don't like this comparison. I don't think Noah's analogy works. I think there's something there. Sarah's also, she's shaking her head and does not work. There's something there. I'm saying like. But it's not quite worked out yet.
Starting point is 00:10:41 August, yeah, August would be John Mayer and September would be Jason Maras where September only has one big hit. And that's why they're up. But it has nine big hits. It has 10 big hits. We only have one birthday. No, September has nine big hits. I didn't see the nine.
Starting point is 00:10:57 Nine big hits. I thought it was only September 9th where it's like September 9th has so many that it catapults on the four. You take September 9th out. They're dropping down like to the lower marks. No, I don't think that's, I don't think that's right. Nine of the 10th. Nine big hits.
Starting point is 00:11:13 You know what it is? Anyways, so we fucking people are born in September. You want to know why I think I repeat myself so often. Like as a youngest child, sometimes it feels like no one's listening to you. And so I, number. one feel like just with the internet these days, you have to like repeatedly say things or else, over explain yourself, over explain or else it's taken.
Starting point is 00:11:35 Or the fact that I'm the youngest sibling out of three and then I'm in a room right now. And then I just go, is anyone listening to me? Yeah. Yeah. Also, Olive is here and she's in her dog bed. Just letting everyone know it's A-O-K. Should I pan over to Olive? Yeah, if you can.
Starting point is 00:11:54 She freaking loves the Lola Blay and get at home. Like, all she lays right on on the couch. So it's like the bed is the exact same thing. You're basically at home. Yeah. You're just, you're nice and cozy and getting all comfy and lounging. So we're just having a good time.
Starting point is 00:12:08 And that's it. So, yeah, I'm excited for the birthday. I'm 32. I don't know. I'm stuck, like, now in my mind, I don't know if anyone else feels this way after turning 30. Like, people ask me how old I am. I'm like 30.
Starting point is 00:12:18 I just think I'm 30. I don't know when that's going to change. It's a big 30. I don't know when that's going to change. but I just I'm like I'm 30 Like if people were to ask me I go through
Starting point is 00:12:29 I'm like oh I'm 30 Then I have to remind myself No 30 32 32's still so young Yeah 32 sounds yeah 32 does it Yeah it does
Starting point is 00:12:39 Okay I think it does I'll take it If anybody asked me I'll probably just say 30 What? No it's just a reflex Like it's not 30
Starting point is 00:12:48 Like it's like Because I'm just like Ah 30 Right I think I'm just like at my wedding year, you know, where I'm just living the excitement of turning 30 and getting married. And I'm like, I'm 30. Right.
Starting point is 00:12:59 Hell yeah. Any anniversary plans? No. It's just kind of like now with all of it combined, we are going to do like, we're going to do dinner at home over the weekend. Beautiful. Which will be really nice, low key. But it's just like when you cram the milestones all in one thing, you kind of have to actually. actually combine some of the celebrations because it's like,
Starting point is 00:13:26 well, you've had one birthday dinner, then an anniversary dinner, then another birthday dinner, it's a lot. Yeah. So we're just birthday and anniversary combo this weekend. And then Joe's birthday. And then Joe's birthday is the weekend after, the 25th. Hell yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:42 So we got lots of fun stuff planned. Very exciting. Fun week. Fun week ahead. Yeah. Hell yeah. Did I ever think I'd be going to see Harry Styles with my husband on his birthday? Oh, you are? Didn't.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Bro. Wow. I don't want to talk about what happened here with this Harry Seiles thing. What? You know what? Maybe we shouldn't even be talking about it publicly. Probably not. But I'm going to try to sum it up really quickly. We were invited to the Harry Seiles concert. Yeah. By Harry?
Starting point is 00:14:10 No, no, no. By a brand. And it was the night of Joe's birthday. So Fran was like, no, because it's Joe's birthday. And then so then I was like, no, because it's Joe's birthday. However, in my email saying no, I was like... But we weren't on the same email day. They were different. They were different.
Starting point is 00:14:26 Individual invites. So like when I wrote back, I said like, oh, it's my husband's birthday. Like, dot, dot, dot. Unless there's a chance there, like, there's another ticket for him, you know? And then I wrote back being like, I have another, sorry, I have another commitment. Yeah. Then Fran's like... And then I went to Joe and told him.
Starting point is 00:14:45 And he was like, wait, I want to go. So now, so now Fran and Joe are going. Why can't you just be like, oh, wait, actually? Because I think at this point they're probably given away. And then I, then it's like, okay, well, I'm going to ask, that I would ask Matt to come. And now they might not have. So now I'm like, okay, I'm just going to take the loss here. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
Starting point is 00:15:05 I understand. I'm also now. I think there's absolutely a world where you could have said, like, could have been like, oh, I want my ticket. However, then it would have been, you would have put yourself in a situation where you would have wanted Matt to be there as well. Yeah. And I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:21 Now we don't know if there's more, because then they gave one to, so now it was a confusion where I was like, nah, I can't go, it's just birthday. Right.
Starting point is 00:15:26 And I like made it a whole, like, now, you know, it was like, I need the plus one because it's his birthday. Because this is his birthday. This is a whole thing.
Starting point is 00:15:33 So, but now I am moving like two days after that. Actually, you wouldn't be able to do it. Now I wouldn't even be able to go. Yeah. So. Even if you said yes,
Starting point is 00:15:42 now I'm thinking about it, you would have probably had to back out. Yeah, exactly. So it actually, It actually worked out for the best. You know what I have a question, speaking of Harry Styles in these shows? It's like a conversation when he performed sign of the times.
Starting point is 00:15:53 It's like, oh, tonight he did the high note. Like, why is he not just doing that every night? Maybe he's saving his taxing on him. But it seems like rare. Why doesn't Nick Jonas think red dress every time he does bring up? Well, that's a good question. You know, that's a good question. I want to know that.
Starting point is 00:16:08 But Harry, like, we were watching Bridgett over troubled water. Like, he has it in him. No, he has it. But maybe he's protecting himself. It's like he doesn't want to. burn out for the high note. I don't know. I want to see the if I'm going, I want to see the high note. Here's
Starting point is 00:16:21 the zip. It's like the same thing. It's like if you're at the show where you get the high note, it's like something special. Yeah, I guess. You know? It's a little extra guest. Now, you did just say you were moving and you, I don't think you've confirmed 100% to the world that you have a date, an apartment, a date, everything, you're done. You actually
Starting point is 00:16:37 have the whole place furnished. It's all done. It's all done. It's actually all done. I've never been more impressed. I could never work at the pace of you work. You were like, oh yeah, I ordered everything. I'm like, that's it. Meanwhile, it takes me like 18 months in a designer to finish a room. I will say, Sarah before was like, you are. She gets executed. And I said, yeah. There's no dilly dally. There's no waiting period. Like, you don't have the patience for it. It's like, I'm doing this and I'm getting it all done right now. And it's actually a beautiful thing. That's where my lack of
Starting point is 00:17:08 patience comes into handy for me because I just get, I just get things done. And I don't like waiting in the abyss. Like it's like, oh, we might have to, we might move. We know we have to move. Yeah. So let's just get out there. You know what I mean? Like, really. Because then I'm going to be sitting around looking at this place. I said that I got to go soon. If I, if, if Joe and I were in your position and they were like, hey, you got to be out and my lease was up. What, what? Like, January. Yeah. I wouldn't have even looked at an apartment until December 15th. Like I wouldn't have I can't work like that. Thought about it.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Because you know why? Because the opposite side of that is I would be looking every single day until it was time. And then that would drive me nuts. It would always be like, well, what if this is gone? You're like thinking about the one that came up two months ago that you didn't get. Yeah. And actually, I think everything happens for a reason. And we ended up finding a beautiful place.
Starting point is 00:18:04 And we're so excited. And I think that's what, you know, you know, things happen for a reason. And I think it worked out great. and we didn't settle on a place. Like, it is so gorgeous and we love it. We, that's why we started early. Because we were like, let's give ourselves time to look so that if we don't like the places, then we have time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:28 But just so happened that we found a gorgeous place that we're so excited about. So yeah, so I'm moving the week after next week. Yeah. And, well, then I was telling Fran earlier, I'm like, well, I, I, already designed the whole place and we ordered all the furniture and everything is delivering the day that we move in and everything's going to be done. And she was like, what? And I showed her picture. It looks what from what I did? Well, we went yesterday to like measure everything and like plan everything out. So I was like, you know what? I might as well get this done because I don't want to
Starting point is 00:19:01 waste a single second in here. Yeah. I want to I want to live up every moment. Yeah. And I don't want to look around and go, you know, in a couple months ago, and I still got to decorate that, that, you know, that part of it. I wanted to be like, I'm ready and I'm, and of course I'll add things as time goes on. Of course. But I got some posters from my room. You're going to bring over? Right. You know, you need like the little things, the lamps, the chat skis, like that stuff. Yeah, yeah. But it's a two-year lease. So I want to soak in every moment because we don't know after that. Yeah, yeah. So yeah, I'm very excited. And talk about someone who's, celebrating a birthday and is a Virgo.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Like that would have been such a Virgo thing to do, and I'm just not. It's so funny. Like, when we talk about you being a Virgo, you're just, I really only have the bossy element of being a Virgo. Like, the whole organized side of it, I didn't really get that part.
Starting point is 00:19:54 And what's crazy is I've always tried to figure out my, what my, whatever, like, I'm so bad with astrology. I need my rising. You're rising and your moon. But my mom doesn't remember the time I was born. That, see, we need to find this certificate. I got to find my birth certificate. I actually think I...
Starting point is 00:20:09 Because... She doesn't know, like, the time a day? Or, like, she just... Yeah. No, you need, like, the time. You need the time. No, no, I know. I'm...
Starting point is 00:20:16 I mean, every... Just do the birth chart, you need the time. So, I am a Leo son, Aries Moon, Taurus Rising. Mm. Whatever... I say that, like, I know what that means. Whatever you got going on, though,
Starting point is 00:20:28 takes away from the burger organization. 100%. Because that is not something you possess. No. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Which is so funny because I think as someone who,
Starting point is 00:20:39 who, I mean, we talked about this a lot this week, and it is not a bad thing. It's a great thing. You know, you need someone to rein you in, like a rule follower. You would think you would be somebody who has everything organized because you are a rule follower. No. And I like to, But that's what I love about you. But I like to try. Like I make the attempt like every year, I get the planner. I say I'm going to write everything down. I'm going to keep track and be organized. And last three about two weeks. Right. But I love that about you because if you were like by be really fucking annoying. If you were so by the book in every aspect of
Starting point is 00:21:13 your life, I don't think we would get along that well. I also always joke that if you were to look at all the Virgo traits and if you have all of them, like, you're kind of annoying. Same thing for Leo's. I mean, same thing for probably most signs. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:29 You know. It's just like on paper it would be like, oh my God, type A type A who doesn't have any fun. But you're not type, you're not type A. No, I'm not type A at all. I'm not type A at all. And you have a lot of fun. I think it's because it like maybe skipped a generation. Like my mom is so type A that maybe that's why I'm not, you know?
Starting point is 00:21:44 And you were just like, fuck this. Like it's just like I had to go opposite. But you are, this is what we were saying the other day about the Nick Jonas thing. Like you really let loose in a way that I think people would be, you know, maybe I hope to not be outing you like this. No, but I think that people would be stunned to see you out on a night out. I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary. No, no. But I'm just saying like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:22:07 it's a different, no, for sure. It's a different you when you get you out on the town, you know? Yeah. No, that's fair. But yeah, what do you think, are you type A, Noah? I don't think so, but I don't really know what that means. He's an interesting combo because I feel like at work, he is very type A. Wait, type A is like.
Starting point is 00:22:28 You know, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're a little, planned and organized and it needs to be this way. Maybe a little anal. Oh, well, if that's anal then. Yeah. You know, like at work he definitely is. Yeah. In life, no, definitely not.
Starting point is 00:22:44 No. But that's, yeah, I, but yeah, I wouldn't be able to. As two people that travel with him quite often. Oh, yeah, he's not a type A traveler. No. Wait, but in what way? In what way am I not a type A traveler? What is a type A traveler?
Starting point is 00:22:59 Google the definition of type A and then, if you want to be specific, traveler. Yeah. you're like you're texting us like the morning of what time do I need to leave for the airport like a type a type a like has the Uber schedule for the perfect time time urgency extreme organization you're very on time but when like if we're just talking about the traveling aspect we're separating work and and your personal work you're on time extremely organized the perfect employee one might say it is they prefer tight control over their schedules and environments yeah I do like to have control over my environments, but I kind of just go with the flow. Yeah, you're a go with the flow kind of guy, though. You know, I don't know, type A, like, I think sometimes it's like you pick it up from the people around you. My dad is very, like, go with the flow.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Certain things, yes, but my mom always joked that we got our, all of our laziness came from my dad's side, so. Oh, that's so classic parent banter. Yeah, yeah, right. It's like, they give all the, they give the bad traits to the other side. side of the family. Oh my God, that must be from your father's side. Always. Always blaming the other side.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Oh, God. Exactly. I eat that shit off. Yeah, yeah. Well, let me tell you, it's like if I was if it was like my grandmother and my mother I would have that side to me and I don't. My grandma, we were all together up in the
Starting point is 00:24:27 vineyard's like, don't you want to be like doing more? Oh. She looks, she's really in the shadows. She's really enjoying. She's a shadow underneath. Wait, continue.
Starting point is 00:24:40 She said, well, no, me and I was like, because she was talking about cooking and all these things. She's like, don't, don't you want to be cooking more? And I was like, not really.
Starting point is 00:24:50 I was like, Joe's so good at it. I don't know. Like, see, Joe loves to cook. I don't love to cook. Right. You know? You have to love it. You really do.
Starting point is 00:24:57 And there's times when I do enjoy it. And I like doing it on my own. Like, I like doing it on my own when someone's not, not calling out my husband when someone's like, you're doing everything wrong. I'm like, okay, I know I'm doing everything wrong. Like, I don't know what I'm doing.
Starting point is 00:25:12 I remember when we were cooking in Palm Springs and you were like, can I do anything? And I was like, do you want to do the salad? And you're like, yes! I was like, I can do the salad. She goes, yes, I have a job. I'm making the salad. I was like, oh, wow. I can do the salad.
Starting point is 00:25:27 Oh, man. Well, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Maybe I'll see you. And, you know. I say maybe. You are invited out. Like, do that make it sound like maybe you were. I know.
Starting point is 00:25:39 I am invited. I don't know. I was like, you're like, maybe I see him. Maybe I won't. I don't know why I said it like that. It was kind of just like a, trying to like move on to the topics. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:52 And I was like, how do I go? Yeah. I didn't want to reveal like all your plans. No, no, no. No, no. So fair. So fair. But hey, maybe I'll see you.
Starting point is 00:26:00 Maybe I'll see you. Maybe I'll see you this weekend. Let's get into the topics. I do want to say it is my aunt's birthday and I, Happy birthday and Debbie. Shamefully. I want to say shamelessly, but I felt a little bit of shame doing it that I texted Melissa Gorga and was like, hey, my aunt is such a big fan.
Starting point is 00:26:23 Do you think you can make me a video? And they made such a good video. And as this is leaving my mouth, I think every week since we've been in the New studio, I have mentioned texting somebody of notoriety. And I got to be honest, I got to stop. It's like, okay, why don't you get the clout chasing penis out of your mouth, Maria? Because holy fuck, I feel like it's only been Glenn and this. Glenn, Heather McMahon, Melissa Gorga. Like, I've named, like, I'm naming everybody from every universe. I'm like, oh, you think we're just friends with Glenn Powell? Well, we know people in the Bravo world.
Starting point is 00:27:01 We know comedians. We're running out of people, like the ones that, yeah. Well, these are the ones we've known for years. Okay, we haven't really made any new friends besides our guest. Today's guest. God, I wish we had his phone number. Yeah. Thankfully we don't. No, thankfully we don't. He's probably really appropriate. He's probably relieved. We're all, you know, we're, we're, we're all happily. Here's the thing. It's like we came out of the studio. So Tom Bateman is, first of all, Tom Bateman is on this. Tom Bateman. Tom Bateman is on this episode. And the way Rhee and I skipped out of the studio, like, everybody thought we were like in love with him. And we were like, no, no, no, no. I said, we love him in the sense that when the interview ended
Starting point is 00:27:36 and I looked at every, he said, I will support him in anything he does for the rest of his life. We're not in love with him. We're just, in love with the idea of him. We're just fans. Yes, exactly. No, that's as simple as that. People forget that you can have a platonic love for people. And that does not mean that I want him to be my husband. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and live in London together. It means that. And he's a married man as well. And he is a married man, Daisy Ridley, and we totally respect that. And we are married women. Yeah. And my goodness gracious, can't we just appreciate someone for who they are without it wanting to be? Because we immediately ran
Starting point is 00:28:06 over to our desk, skipping, jumping up, down. We might have been jumping up and down. Our feet might have been in the air. I mean, you were talking about photoshopping's face onto that Glenn Powell picture behind you. I'm telling the story. Grab the desk. And by the way, I don't feel that way about Glenn Powell. Here's the thing. I feel love as a friend for Glenn Powell.
Starting point is 00:28:22 100%. I couldn't agree more. There is a sensation and my fellow fan girls know the sensation. When you watch a new movie or a new TV, show and you see that guy and you're just like I need to know everything about him like I need I got to Google him I need to learn everything about him like he just gained his new biggest fan we are so lucky because we in certain up is certain projects we get to have that moment and then talk to them you know
Starting point is 00:28:55 like actually get to meet them and when they live up to what you hope or you're excited to meet someone and they were like, oh my God, that person was so great. It's amazing. It's like, so he's going to be in the new love hypothesis. And it's such a cute movie. And people are going to fucking fall in love with him. And he's going to have like, people are going to be obsessed. He's going to have a new fandom.
Starting point is 00:29:13 It's going to be huge. And then when you get to chat with him and you're like, what a fucking lovely human. I just want the best for him in life. Exactly. It's like cute aggression because you just like want to. Now here's the thing. On the other side of we are obviously fan girls. And that's what we grew.
Starting point is 00:29:30 grew up on, we now do this for a living. Yeah. And every time, mostly I want to say it's a male actor or a performer. Yeah. That comes into here. I get extremely nervous that they are going to look at us like, oh, these just these two silly girls. Right, right, right. And not take us seriously or whatever. And it's not them. They, it doesn't happen. But it is a fear of mine because we have heard, and maybe it's years ago, like, oh, you know, they hear the name chicks in the office and silly they talk about silly pop culture, like we don't want to go on, you know?
Starting point is 00:30:03 Yeah. So it's just this fear that I have that someone's going to come in, they're going to sit down and go, why am I doing this, like, silly little pop culture show? And so when they sit down and they are always so lovely and amazing and personable, when they leave, it's like, holy shit, what a feeling of relief. They are such a great human. They respect us. We respect them.
Starting point is 00:30:26 And that's the feeling we left atop. So we go back to our desk. We are feet in the air. We're holding hands, jumping up and down. He's great. And my husband works in the office. So he's sitting right there listening to us be like, this is the best man that we've ever seen.
Starting point is 00:30:38 And he does give a shit. Like he is used to this by now. Like, come on. And everyone around him is like, Marty, like, you're going to listen to this? He's like, I don't, do you think I care about this? Like, not in a way that's rude. He's like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:51 And he looks at him and he's like, yeah, I get it. And you know what? We also get so excited. And I will say a majority, we have great conversations. 99% of the time when we leave an interview that we were like that felt like a really great interview
Starting point is 00:31:07 there's a little extra pep in our step and you know what and that's what I'm saying like I almost slap a must listen on this interview which hasn't happened in a long time no just an enjoyable human and the next time someone asks us who our favorite guest was I'm saying
Starting point is 00:31:24 top eight men like it's and it's just a feeling of warmth and happy us and everyone's going to love it and they're going to eat him up and yeah yeah the movies like everyone's going to love the movie it's yeah so exciting so everyone listened to that and we are going to get into the high rock sick girl uh is uh changing her tune now yeah yeah we don't have to follow up on me i don't care oh okay she's a bar an animal we already she was she was like so i saw she was like sorry i should have quit yeah yeah no shit nice um we are going to get into the rest of today's episode
Starting point is 00:31:59 obviously listen to Tom, but we are going to go through Dancing with the Stars Night 1 and 2. We're going to go by couple. We wrote down some notes as we watched. We're going to talk about it all. And then we have an update about the Mormon wives. Michaela's leaving. Taylor Frankie Paul can't stop failing drug tests. It's a whole thing, allegedly. So let's get into it. And we have a great game of trivia. Sorry, great game of trivia. That as well. All right, let's get into dancing with the stars on this episode. And nothing is better than being cozy, getting ready to lock in to dance with the stars this season. And being all snuggled up on the couch in the Lola Blanket.

Starting point is 00:33:36 Oh my goodness. Is back. I fucking love this table. Wait, can I, can I like immediately put you on blast? Yeah. You know what I'm going to say. I don't. I have no idea. Okay, so we have a group chat. It's me, Ria Kelly, and Gia and we have been talking all throughout Dancing with the Stars. And Ria said the text, is Bruno French. Oh my God. I had a I had a freaking brain fart. I know he's Italian. Bruno Tonyoli. I couldn't believe it. My response I was like, are you good? No, I wasn't good. I wasn't good.
Starting point is 00:34:13 It's been a hectic week. My brain's all over the place. Getting shit done and left, right, center. I know. And I don't know what came out of me. I felt so embarrassed. I literally was like, why the fuck would you ask that? You know he's Italian. You know that. You know he's a Paisana of yours. Yeah, of course. So yeah, I apologize. That was. This is really weird of me. I don't know what happened. Something took over you. Opening that day with what.
Starting point is 00:34:35 I don't know what got into me. That was weird. I don't know. I had a brain fart. But, Don, sing with the start. No, I just love the studio. I just have, like, I'm just going to say it.
Starting point is 00:34:45 I love that. I get so excited to come in here and talk every day. Yeah. I really do. Like, I genuinely go home every day and I say, I am so excited to go back to work tomorrow and talk. Because I just love this setup. I just feel so free.
Starting point is 00:35:02 And just want to get it off. Get it off my chest. I love that. I love that. It was a two night premiere. It was a two night premiere. It was a two night. First night was all the male stars with their female pro dancers.
Starting point is 00:35:15 And let's get into it, all right? You know, we get started, we're not going to put fluff in the middle here like the Huff's like to do. We got a little huff dance here, Huff dance there. It's the Huff show. And then Julianne Huff gets on and she's like, looking at the teleprompter, she's like, we are going past time Are we not gonna have time for my dance?
Starting point is 00:35:33 Maybe if we cut your fucking dance out of the show We would have more time for the thing that we are watching for Which is the dances of the competitors And what the judges have to say No, no, we have to rush what Bruno has to say Because Julianne's got a dance for Paris Spaghetti Right, right, right. No free ads, by the way
Starting point is 00:35:49 And you know what, I don't even blame, like That's less on Julianne and less on them deciding Like, hey, let's, the show's never been bigger So let's really milk it and we'll do a two-night premiere, but we'll make sure we put in a big sponsor number. Well, yeah, well, they have a bunch of sponsors this season.
Starting point is 00:36:03 Good for them. Good for them. They're getting paid. They're making the big bucks. Bigger sponsors means higher quality. We love it. Good for them. Probably paid a shit time for all this.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Looks like they're also sponsoring the podcast. Listen, good for, this fucking off-the-shoulder shirt. It's hard to deal with it. Every time I can't really, because I talk of my hands. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Less exaggerated emotions. If you're not watching on YouTube, I apologize. I, you know, um, sorry. I'm literally stuck. It's a very cute shirt. Oh, thank you.
Starting point is 00:36:32 I think it is. Oh, thank you. That's nice of you. I don't know how I felt about it. But anyways, I want to get this out of the way because I want to talk about it the whole time. Julianne Huff has to get her hosting shit in order.
Starting point is 00:36:44 She's got to get it in order. I think it was maybe like week one rust. Let's be honest. She's never that fantastic anyway. You know? She's a phenomenal dancer. Great performance. Fantastic performer.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Fantastic performer. She did flub the Paris Paralympic situation like three times. That was bad. Yeah. Yeah, which is, yeah. It's hard. It's tough. It's just the thing is like when it starts to repeat itself, then it's hard.
Starting point is 00:37:13 But like, you could see Ezra in the corner being like, I can't believe I'm on camera for this right now. And I have to have a straight face. But they just like, I think that they really have figured out a good flow with the judge host. who's in those positions right now. Because I do think it's, you know, anything's better than the Tower Bank stays, you know? I like where we're at right now. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:37:38 We like to have something to talk about like this. Thanks, Alfonso. Yeah. And Julianne and Alfonso, I love them as hosts, like talking about the duo. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And so if she flubs up, fine, but we're going to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:37:51 And she was off her game. But besides the point, let's get into the dancers, We started off with Jackson Olson and Emma Slater. This is Emma Slater's first partner in their 20s. I couldn't believe that when they said that. I thought he was older than me. No. We're the same age.
Starting point is 00:38:06 No, no. He has, you know what it is? Sometimes I feel like maybe, you think he's got fake teeth? Those chompers? Yeah, they have to be, right? They have to be. They're beautiful, but they're big chompers. Sometimes when you go big on them like that, it makes you look older, I think.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Yeah, that's right. Who's the guy with the big teeth? Big fake teeth. An actor? Anybody on Love Island, UK. No, like big fake teeth. You know what I thought got big fake teeth? Zach Affleck on Mormon-wise.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Did he get big fake teeth? I watched one episode and he started talking. I went, where'd those things come from? You see, if you get fake teeth, they have to be done tastefully. Right. No, 100%. I can't remember what I'm thinking about it. A TV host or somebody with big teeth. whatever. Jackson has big, big nice teeth. And, uh, they danced a cha-cha to wannabe by the
Starting point is 00:39:00 Spice Girls came out in 1997. He's an entertainer. He is an entertainer. Five's across the board. Did you write notes about them? Uh, no. And so it's up in my head, you know? Oh, you're like low wing. Yeah. I just see like this. Right. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, we have the names, what they dance to and the scorers, and then it like all comes back to me. Yeah, yeah. Where I can envision, where I can envision the dance. I'm excited to see. I'm excited to see what they do. So you thumbs up. Sorry. So you thumbs up me when I said let's write notes about each couple and then didn't do it. That was for you. I was like, that's a nice idea for you to do. Go ahead. I knew something was up when she thumbs up me and didn't respond. I said, let's write notes about
Starting point is 00:39:43 each couple for Friday. I just got a thumbs up. I'll remember, but if you need to do that, sure. I'll remember. It's that would be funny, but anyways, fuck the notes. Well, here's my note. Okay. He can't do, they can't do the banana yellow every dance. No. So I'm excited to see what they do moving forward because it's like this is his thing. So what comes next? I'm excited to see. And also a little, like, you know, sloppy footwork a little bit. They'll clean that up, but his feet were sort of all over the place. I had the same note, a little sloppy. Finally, she has a partner that can move, though, which is huge.
Starting point is 00:40:19 She must be thrilled to be able to up the choreography a little bit. For sure. This is huge. You know, I actually was expecting more from him, I think. And so this was a little bit more sloppy. I think he's used to that, though, the big moves on the baseball field. And right away, Derek put out a disclaimer and was like, hey, don't be alarmed with the lower scores. Sort of just saying it's week one. We got to start somewhere so that you can get better and all those things, which we felt night one.
Starting point is 00:40:51 a little bit more than night two, I would think, like, just in the, in the range here. Right, because the reaction from Emma and Jackson when they got all fives was like, oh. Yeah, I think they were like, oh, shit, like we suck. But realistically, that was a pretty good score, all things considered. For sure. And I like that. We need to start low. No, I agree to.
Starting point is 00:41:09 You have to. I agree. I agree, too. But it was like, then it was, well, we'll get into it. But a lot of the fives and sixes and sevens. We're confusing. Definitely night two a little bit more. Yeah. Tyler Cameron and Sharna were next. They did a tango two.
Starting point is 00:41:20 Are you going to go? my way by Lenny Kravitz. Listen, I think Tyler has tons of potential. Totally. They got a score of 17. Carriand gave a six. The rest of them gave fives. I thought Tyler really did a great job with his framework.
Starting point is 00:41:36 A little stiff looking, of course, a tango has to be tight, but so much potential. So much. And it just reminds me, like Tyler being back on the screen. I'm like, you know what? It's a solid guy. And I'm happy for him and rooting for him. Same. And it actually warmed my heart to see some.
Starting point is 00:41:51 TikTok edits back on my page, or seeing people being like, wow, my 2019 Bachelor Nation crush being back on my TV. I'm like, wow, you know what? Good for him. I'm happy to have this come back around for him. And people were like holding on to him in the package saying that like he went on the Bachelorette
Starting point is 00:42:06 hoping that Dancing with the Stars would be like in his future. I just think he always wanted to be on Dancing with the Stars, which is not in the sense that like, I don't think it was like, let me go on the Bachelorette so that I can be on Dancing with the Stars. I think it was like after he was on and then there was a possibility. of being on Dancing with the Stars,
Starting point is 00:42:23 he always, he would have been happy to take it for sure. Yeah, I'm dying at the videos from 2019, Tyler. He was our Rob, you know? Yeah. The kids didn't even know what it was like when Tyler Kamen first hit the scene. There's like, there's like millennials on
Starting point is 00:42:39 TikTok and they're like, let me tell you about Tyler Cameron back in the day. When Tyler came here the first time, this place like, oh, 100%. I love that. Bring the lore back. Remember when Dave stopped the radio show to be like, this guy's sugar looking. What is he doing?
Starting point is 00:42:55 Yeah, yeah. Like, he was like, you're dating Judy Hadid. Remember he came in, like, randomly when Dylan, Dylan, I don't know if Hannah was here, but Dylan was on the podcast and he just sat on the floor and watched. Then we went to Rolling Loud, rode that scooter. Look, we've had some, we've had some good times together, some good, good times. Have you ever talked for the scooter? The scooter.
Starting point is 00:43:16 We might have played it at a live show. Maybe at a live show, I don't know. We never talked about it on the podcast, though. No, no, no. It was like, yeah, that's a funny video. Yeah. We'll save for the live show. Just like size-wise, it's hilarious because you are a tiny human and he is a large human,
Starting point is 00:43:29 which is one of the things that he's going to have to battle with on this show, because he is a very tall, big guy that any, like, little infraction is very visible. You sent a picture the other day that was so funny from 2021. Oh, oh, yes. just hilarious. And it was just like, wow, what a time looking back. And I saw someone on thread say that like the time for Tyler to have been on this show was like right after he was dating Gigi Hedeed when things were hot. And I disagree.
Starting point is 00:44:09 What do you mean? Like I think that this is a great time for him to be on Dancing with the Stars. 1,000%. You know? This is, Dancing with the Stars is so fucking huge now. He took advantage of what he was doing. I don't want to say he fell off. He went quiet for a little bit.
Starting point is 00:44:24 He focused on his life at home. For sure. He found tape. Trying to build a business. Trying to build a family, a life. And now he's doing his with stars. Which is actually, if you would say,
Starting point is 00:44:33 strategically smart, because if he did Dancing with the Stars, then he may have played all his cards. Mm-hmm. Like, he played all his cards. And then he'd be like, well, what else is there? What else is there to do now, you know? For sure.
Starting point is 00:44:46 So you throw him back out here now, and everyone's being reminded how much they love him. loved seeing Sharna back as well. And these two are going to cook up some great. These two are going to cook up some great dances. Sharna is just so sexy. She is. I mean, wow.
Starting point is 00:45:00 She just is. She just is. She really is. Moving on to this big old mess. Conner Levitt and Adele, they danced a salsa. Yeah, they danced a salsa just in case you were confused of what dance they did do to whoop, there it is. And they got a score of 12.
Starting point is 00:45:14 And whoop, there it is. They went home. There it is. Right out the door. As soon as it is. his ass shook, I knew I was going to hate everything that happened after. Right. And then it shook like four more times. It did. And he, here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:45:29 He, he is like a happy go lucky guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can't knock much about him. Right. And, you know, I'm trying to tread lightly, but I'm going to be honest. Yes, he's a happy go lucky guy. And he's always supporting everybody else. And he was Whitney's cheerleader and he talked about how like you know he's always there being the one supporting everyone and what it's like for people to support him and that is a beautiful message and it's a beautiful thing and i'm happy for him and it's you know he seems so happy and joyous and loves magic but my god when i saw this yeah i had to mute my television as soon as they wrapped up yeah when the judge's scores
Starting point is 00:46:14 went i had to sit in silence and ask myself what i just witnessed and if i wanted to to continue on in life because I couldn't believe it. Now, upon initial viewing, I was like, this man, I'm sorry, fun and all, he's got to go. It was immediate. He was trying to do Whitney facial expressions. Yeah, it was pretty immediate. The dance ending, we were like, it's got to be it. It's got to be it.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Upon rewatching a couple other times, because you have to. Yeah. The choreography was not in his favor. I thought that immediately as well. And I don't think Adele did have any favors. I don't want to knock Adele because she is a new pro and she rightfully won the new pro show. Yeah. And she crushed it on there.
Starting point is 00:47:01 And she is a, sorry, next pro. And she is a phenomenal dancer and so talented. But this choreography, I don't think was in his favor. I think this choreography was like a mockery. And let's have a funny joke, joke. Ha, ha. Let's be a couple clowns out there. where if they did a traditional salsa
Starting point is 00:47:19 and he was moving slow and composed, well, you know what I mean, just like how everyone is their first week where they're trying to learn the steps, I actually think he would have got more respect in that way. Instead, we watched him shake his touch and do all these...
Starting point is 00:47:36 Song choice didn't help either, you know. A salsa to whoop, there it is. Yeah, there's not much more, like, you know, I just think of you're just kind of like shaking it to what when that's... Whoop. There it is. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:47:49 I agree with you. And I'll be honest, that was sort of my feeling when Adele won next pro. Because she is a unbelievable dancer. Like, holy crap, is she a fantastic dancer? But I, and the parts where it was like teaching and maybe doing like, actually being a pro, I thought I don't know if she is perfect for that job. And I kind of felt that here. And it's hard to knock because it is week one.
Starting point is 00:48:23 It's her first time doing it. She's never done it before. And I hope she gets an opportunity to be back again and show that, show, you know, the potential that she has and everything that she can do. But, yeah, the choreography was not, was not there, unfortunately. Yeah, it was a sloppy mess. Yeah. Moving on to Guillermo and Whitney, they did a cha-cha to miss your big stuff. they got a whopping score of 10.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Carian gave a four, the rest gave threes. Now here's the thing. This is where the hypocrisy comes in, right? Because Guillermo went right after Connor. And all my Instagram stories, I was posting out how atrocious, Connor, this is a big little mess. And then Guillermo went and I went, God, I'm eating up this little meatball. Yeah, you know?
Starting point is 00:49:07 But you have to understand the difference between the two. I mean, let's use critical thinking here. Because I think it's because maybe we expect more from Connor. No, we do. We just know what Germo's going to be able to do. And being able to move your body, we expect more from Connor than Gierremo. We know what Giermo's. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:49:25 We know what's in his tank? And you know what's in his tank? Rolling around the floor like a big sausage and calling it the chattro. There was a moment mid-dance where he just stood still for like three to four seconds, watching her just spin around him. And here's a thing. Four beats of him just standing with Whitney dancing around him. And he was like...
Starting point is 00:49:42 That is what happens. Exactly. And I will say, though, Gere Entertainment factor Exactly But also Guillermo's slow stepping
Starting point is 00:49:51 Was like trying to When he did move Yeah Trying to learn the moves I thought More than what Connor was doing With the salsa In terms of like
Starting point is 00:50:02 You know No I get what you're saying I get what you were saying Trying to explain it I'm explaining it poorly And maybe you won't be able To figure out what I mean That's sort of like
Starting point is 00:50:09 What was going on with Giata Like even though Giaada's dance Was very simple She was getting scores that she was getting similar scores of dances that were more complex, but it's like, well, she did the simple stuff well, despite it looking very simple. That's what, yes, simple is the correct word where sometimes I think in the beginning
Starting point is 00:50:28 simple's better. Now, here's the thing we gear about. For the sake of Whitney, they got to go home. Whitney does not want to be there any longer. Right, right, right, right, right. Like, you know, I know that everyone's going to. I can't. No, it's an, it's, when he rolls on the ground.
Starting point is 00:50:42 When he rolls on the floor and rolls. like we're turning him on the grill. It is just insane. Like he is a... You know what? Call us hypocrites. I'm going to eat that up and I'm going to go, yeah, I want to watch that more...
Starting point is 00:50:56 Truly, the pork over the fire. Yeah, I want to watch that more than Connor Leavitt. My apologies. Absolutely. You know, sue us. Sorry, the entertainment factor is there and here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:51:07 It's going to be an issue. It is. And it's going to become an issue quick. We're going to have the situation where everybody's going to be... Like, the people are going to vote for him. And right off the bat, there are some great dancers already that like if anyone goes home before him,
Starting point is 00:51:23 it'll be like, oh, that sucks. It's going to be the thing that we had with Andy where it's like, listen, I actually find him to be more entertaining than Andy. And I honestly, when I was watching, I was like, oh, fuck, I'm about to be Noah this season. But for the sake of Whitney, I'm not going to do that because I think Whitney is like, sadly if we're being honest I think she probably was like I'll take Guillermo I'm pregnant
Starting point is 00:51:49 but they have to know what happened last season No they know they know but it'll be slow dancing You know what I mean? And then hopefully But here's the thing I think she'll be okay though Because it's like he's never going to be able to step up the choreography right so it will be So she's going to be able to do some pretty simple stuff
Starting point is 00:52:05 For sure but I mean I'm sure she wants a break Yeah I mean I don't think she wants to lose No you don't want to lose but I'm sure part of her is like If I go home home. It's fine. The odds of me going back to back with
Starting point is 00:52:17 Geremo slim. But imagine. Oh my. It was so. It was so entertaining though. Like I have to say, I ate this shit up. And he knows how to play the crowd too.
Starting point is 00:52:29 Look at him. Yeah, he said, women are the best. He, what Julian is, they're in the skybox. And he's like, look at this beautiful pregnant woman. Women are the best. It was like, you are one smart man, Guillermo.
Starting point is 00:52:39 And by the way, he said on the carpet too. He's been using that line. And he's getting me every time. I'll admit it. I fucking voted for him. Same. No, she was saying like he's like the nicest
Starting point is 00:52:48 to everyone. Like he's, yeah, he's playing it. He was joking on Jimmy Kimmel that he was joking that he's gained 10 pounds because he's so hungry after, after dancing.
Starting point is 00:52:57 He, I did vote for him. And, you know. All votes? I gave him 10, but you could vote for multiple people. No, no, I know. No, I voted for other people too, but I did throw him in the mix.
Starting point is 00:53:06 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And, yeah, I just think. These are the weeks where I literally vote for everybody. Right. Besides, I like you. I like you. I like you. I went all.
Starting point is 00:53:13 Yeah, so, you know, not much else to say besides the fact that after posting that, I did have people message me, like, how are you going to say this about Guillermo, not Connor? It's like, well, yeah, no, I. Come on. No, it's very fair. Come on. Danielle and Ezra dance a tango to since you've been gone. They got a 20. It was a 7, 6, 7.
Starting point is 00:53:39 Phenomenal. Like, goosebumps. Phenomenal. Unbelievable. stunning. He is just a spectacular human for so many reasons. But like what a gorgeous dance. And I just feel like Daniela is going to come up with some really cool creative things for them to do. And it's going to, it's just like going to blow us away every time. What an incredible story from Ezra. Yeah. So inspiring, really incredible and really just downright impressive all around. Yeah. I really do feel inspired by somebody like
Starting point is 00:54:10 Ezra because, you know, not to get too serious or real, but from your day to day, sometimes you don't want to get off the couch and you just want to be lazy. Oh, totally. You forget. Take things for granted. Yes, exactly. And then you watch someone like Ezra and you're like, wow, you can't take a day for granted. You can't take having, being able to use every part of your body for granted. And the way that he uses what he has is just so impressive and so incredible. And he crushed it. Crushed it. Like, really? really just so good. And that is also a testament to Daniela,
Starting point is 00:54:44 who is an amazing teacher, amazing dancer. Connor Wood and Riley, they did a cha-cha too. I like it. I love it. Score 16. Carry on six.
Starting point is 00:54:53 The rest fives. Fibula. People love fibula. I was so pleasantly, like, surprised by them. These two were very fun. It was cute.
Starting point is 00:55:01 Riley's obviously adorable. So I think it's a great combination. I like that they sort of did something different. Like they had a bit of a country theme. And it was, song choice wise was different from like what everybody else was doing. So it had a different feel. It was memorable. It was sweet. And I feel like he's another person that will get better. And the people, the people do love Connor. They do. I definitely think
Starting point is 00:55:23 he will get better. It is so funny, you know, when they do the bottom three, but it's not, they say it's not technically the bottom three. But two out of the three are definitely in the bottom three. For sure. Right? Because you had Connor Levitt, Guillermo and Connor Wood. Connor Wood has such a strong fan base voting-wise that I feel like he wasn't actually in the bottom three. I don't think Guillermo. I feel like Guillermo and you don't know. You don't think so.
Starting point is 00:55:45 Well, I think Guillermo got a shit ton of votes, but we just all think that Guillermo would be at the bottom. Right. I just think that when they say it's not the bottom three, I think two out of that. I actually never believe it. I'm like, I think this is the bottom three. Because it's pretty, it's like, I'm like, okay, well, you know.
Starting point is 00:55:59 Yeah. So, but when seeing Connorwood's face, when they say Connor, it's like you got both corners. That I'm doing the double Conner is so hard. It's so hard. And thank God. We got this clear now. It makes everything going forward.
Starting point is 00:56:08 Do you think they're going to continue to make his vote Connor W? Or do you think we'll be able to just do Connor? I think they're just going to make a Connor W, but they'll take Connor. Yeah, right. It'll submit for that. I mean, the website completely broke the first night. So they were going just by text results. And people were like, collusion.
Starting point is 00:56:28 The website broke. Connor Levitt should still be there. Because all the people voting on the website were voting for only for Connor Levitt. Yeah. And I'm like, I'm sorry. Like, let's just accept this, okay? Here's the thing. It's, like, all the people that's voting via website
Starting point is 00:56:41 are probably just putting their votes in via text. Like, it's just, like, the same, you know? Like, when I rarely go to the website, I normally just send text, but towards the end of the season, when things get more intense, I just double and go both. Like, I'm doing the voting for the same people,
Starting point is 00:56:54 like, it's the same thing. There's no way to, like, you can double your votes. Yeah, you can do website and phone. Oh. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Taylor Hanson and Britt were beautiful, a quick step. tell her about it.
Starting point is 00:57:06 They had a six. It was a carrying him a six and then two fives. I feel like he's another person that has a lot of potential. He's got to cut his hair. I don't know what. Or like, I know. Luscious hair. I know.
Starting point is 00:57:19 And that's going to cause some controversy with the Hanson fans because that's like his signature look. But I heard Derek talking about this where it's like with ballroom, there's so much with the lines and the shape. Like that's why ballroom dancers in competition Like everybody has their hair slick back That he might have to have to do something His hair's in his face
Starting point is 00:57:41 I see now It's like there's times where he's like You know he's throwing his head back like this To like toss his hair out of his face Well maybe he can have it pinned back Not cut it or a headband Right maybe some slicks Slick back
Starting point is 00:57:52 Some Elvis style looks you know Right But this was a really beautiful dance And a quick step so hard for week one And I feel like he is going to be very good. I got Jason Maraz vibes from him when Jason Maraz was on. Totally. And he became a really good dancer.
Starting point is 00:58:11 And I think Taylor Hanson has that. And you could tell he's taking it very seriously. Totally. And Britt is so good. And I'm really rooting for her to make a run for it this season. Absolutely. Last, but certainly not least. We had Harry Schoon Jr. and Jenna Johnson. They dance a cha-cha to Let's Groove. Score 21. All sevens. They were grooving all right. My God did I think they were gonna fuck at the end of this. There is.
Starting point is 00:58:37 It was like something came over me. He said, something came over. He said, I got to hit a body roll. Noah, scroll to the end. When they go to the floor, he hits a butt when he, when he's checking her pulse, and he hits a body roll. And then Jenna sticks her tongue out at him. Ready, watch.
Starting point is 00:58:52 It's like, I thought in that moment, Jenna's leaving Val and she's going home with Harry Schum Jr. Now I know that's inappropriate to say But whatever happened here They then joked about it after In the post Post show press Where Val came up and was like
Starting point is 00:59:10 I don't know if that ending move was necessary And Jenna was like it was necessary And Harry was like I don't know what came over me Which was so funny because then Val obvious He was like no it was great And they all respect each other This is their profession so just making jokes here But I saw this I thought
Starting point is 00:59:26 Okay this is the start of a movie I didn't know existed yet Because, holy shit. Now, besides that, just spectacular dancing. Yeah, look, he's a fantastic dance. Just spectacular. And here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:59:38 I find that, and I felt the same way with Jen a little bit, too. It's like the judges need to come up with something to say. And there are, for sure, critiques and whatever. It's like, oh, but it's funny when the critique is like,
Starting point is 00:59:50 you're hitting the move too hard. You know? Like, it was like, Carrie Ann was like, you're exaggerating too much. Like, it's just like, okay. But they'll get in the right, rhythm. I mean, my goodness. I can't take my eyes off of it. And I just love when they're so excited to get back in a dance. He hasn't been dancing for a long time. And I know we're pushing heavy on the Grey's Anatomy aspect of it all because, you know, that's a fellow ABC program. Uh, and the glee of it all is not being discussed as much as much as it should be. But the guy loves to dance. And seeing his face light up after two just being like, I'm just so happy to like be dancing again. I got to be honest. I don't. And I need that what it's all about.
Starting point is 01:00:31 It is. It totally is for the love of dance. I watch this part again. I cannot get over this body roll. Yeah. And Jenna's sticking her tongue out. It's like, wow, we were just in the moment there. We forgot where we were.
Starting point is 01:00:47 And that's performance. I love it. That is performance, baby. I love it. Moving on. Oh, RIP. Connor, went home. Yeah, night one.
Starting point is 01:00:53 As we knew. We kind of expected. Expected. And, well, actually, we didn't expect. No one called it. we were like, I personally thought that, I mean, that night, I was like he's going home, but that leading up, I thought because Whitney got sent home, it was after his dance, that everybody was like, oh, we're going to ride hard for Connor now.
Starting point is 01:01:15 But do you think if he really had like an incredible dance that he still would have been saved? I will also. Maybe. Maybe, but I also make the argument for a new pro as well that people have their favorite pros now. And because Adele is new, she doesn't quite have that fan base, that's loyal fan base yet. the combination of Connor not being great and Adele. And we saw it happen both nights. Right. We'll get into that. We go into night two.
Starting point is 01:01:38 Started off with Tatiana Ali and Jan. They did a jive to knock on wood. This was a 12-444-4-low start here. Muchroom for improvement. And it was a messy start. She was off for the beginning. She got back into it a little bit. But just her whole story, like you can't help of roof her.
Starting point is 01:01:57 It was an immediate, like her talking about, You know, her kid's getting a little bit older, and this is the time for her to do this and get back into it. And, you know, kind of talking about her mom, belly, and just, like, being very open about where she is in her life right now. You can't help but root for her. And I feel like they had done that dance so much better, maybe in rehearsals and things.
Starting point is 01:02:18 And then, like, you'd have that mess up and you're like, oh. And I really hoped that it wasn't going to be something that would send her home because I think that her and Jan could be great. and I'm excited to see what they do. Did you see Jan's Instagram his TikTok live? Yes. Yon's so fucking funny.
Starting point is 01:02:38 He really is. He has like a really, really hilarious personality. Fuck my pussy. He's like, who put that? He's like, I'm gonna put that song in here. I'm not a pervert. It was so funny. Oh my God.
Starting point is 01:02:49 But yeah, much to improve here, but rude for her. Yeah, big time. Amber Glenn and Pasha did a chot-toucho to smooth. I love this song. Oh, God. You could just get me ruined. I fucking love this song too. Santana.
Starting point is 01:02:59 Oh my God, I eat up Santana. Same. I think that when this song came out, it was the number one song of that year.
Starting point is 01:03:06 I believe, if we can get a check on that. Well, what year was she born 1999? I think I've talked about this multiple times. 2001?
Starting point is 01:03:13 What year was Ambergum? I mean, she's 20. How old is she? Smooth was the number one song of that year, I believe. Smooth. It says believe.
Starting point is 01:03:21 The longest running number one single of the era. Dominating the chart for 12 total weeks. Yeah, it's a great, great one. she was great. All sixes though.
Starting point is 01:03:34 I know. I really thought, and here's the thing. When they went all sixes for this, I was like, they're going to be a little tougher around the women's. For some fucking reason, I feel like they always are. And I just thought like, I don't know, there were some sevens.
Starting point is 01:03:48 Who got a seven night one that I thought there was, or maybe, no, keep going. No, it was just Harry. Oh, no, Ezra. Ezra did. Ezra was fantastic, but I was like, that felt similar to me, like that I thought maybe, and maybe not all sevens, but I thought maybe someone was going to toss a seven in there.
Starting point is 01:04:09 Right, I agree. Moving on Sierra and Brandon Foxtrot to Exhale. Yeah. 15, all fives. I think Sierra is going to turn out to be a great dancer. I saw so much potential here. I think she was so nervous. She was clearly very nervous. She talked about it.
Starting point is 01:04:24 She's put it on threads now that she was so nervous. And I think you're also maybe a little shaken, because they have talked to. about this before that they don't know what's in the package before it plays. And it's like, if it played and 75% of it was about West and Amanda, I'd be like, oh, fuck, like really, you know, like, come on. So maybe like immediately you're already a little thrown off. Right. And now you have that in the back of your head. And you're already so fucking nervous.
Starting point is 01:04:50 But I will say the symmetry of everything that she did when it came to wearing that Whitney Houston dress at the Emmys, this costume being like a take on this. that dress dancing to this song. I was just like, oh, that is just stunning. I loved everything about that. Yeah, everything was synchronized. And it'll come together for them. Fox Trot is also one of those ones that's, like,
Starting point is 01:05:11 deceivingly very hard because you just see everything. Yeah. And I also think Brandon is such a great partner for her, as well as having his wife. They're such a great support system. Yeah. So I feel like this is going to be great for her. Yeah. Moving on to Giata and Alan, they did a tango to Venus, 16, a 6 and 2.5.
Starting point is 01:05:29 Now here's the thing. I don't think Giata should have got a six there. The six was shocking to me. Yeah. The six was shocking to me just compared to where, how Carrie Ann was judging everybody else with sixes. Like in my mind, I watched Amber's dance. I watched this dance.
Starting point is 01:05:44 There's no reason these should both be sixes, you know? And that continued as the night went on with people's scores. All five's, sure. She did well. It was also one of those situations where I thought Alan gave her. very simple choreography to start, which is okay and so fair because she's never danced before. So like she did execute what they were doing kind of well, but there was she, there was also a couple mess ups in that. And then I thought six, I just thought that was crazy. A little,
Starting point is 01:06:16 a little bit crazy right off the bat. But people love Gianna. That is, that is for sure. Julia Stiles and Ezra did a quick step to nine to five. Dali Pardon, just so cool that they got that approval before she passed to be able to do this song so that's just a moment in itself three sixes I just love that Julia is so into it
Starting point is 01:06:39 and clearly cares a lot and wants to be good and wants to like work really hard at it I love that you know they they quoted Andy Cohen on his radio show being like you know Julia Styles
Starting point is 01:06:52 like isn't really a good dancer and then on Washington Happens Live Andy Cohen made himself the jackhole he was like it's making sorry Julia like who am I to say you know if you can dance or not all these things so she's I think she's only going to get better too I do think the nerve like there were a lot of nerves I felt on night too maybe a little bit more and quick step is so well I think yeah like in terms of week one dance jive quick step to me I'd be like oh right fuck off but I do think that she's
Starting point is 01:07:24 so dedicated and is only going to go up from here and I love I'm obsessed with this pairing Her and Ezra together. I just, I love it. So good. Mora and Mark, Foxtrot to Black Velvet, score 21, all sevens. Holy shit. Holy shit. Was I knocked off my seat by Mora?
Starting point is 01:07:41 This was a week, like this is a performance that you could have told me was week six. I have chills. I would have been like, yeah, absolutely. She was so good. And here's the thing. I got to be honest, I did not expect that for Mora at all. and it's a testament to how great of a teacher Mark is. Everybody says it.
Starting point is 01:08:01 People say, oh, yeah, Mark gets all the dancers. Well, what if Mark is just a fantastic teacher? Because Laura, no dance background. Maura does not have a dance background. She does not an athlete. No. Let's not forget about her doing dancing on ice. She did do that.
Starting point is 01:08:18 You're right. Which they didn't mention. You're right. And then remember on Love Island when Curtis tried to teach her some moves? I just did not see Mora as this. coordinated if I'm being completely honest. No, that's so fair. And I'm such a huge Mora fan. I love her. I've been obsessed with her for years.
Starting point is 01:08:33 She's so regal. But holy shit. She's my new number one. Yeah. Like, she's going straight to the top. And I'll make sure of it. And like, it really, like you said, a testament to Mark because what also he is so good at is the creative. Like doing the full traders dance, the joke about the burkin, the caught, like everything was so curated and perfect that
Starting point is 01:08:55 when he just. What's on a fucking show? When he carried her back to the judges, I was like, hell. Yes, he knew they crushed it. Yeah, knows how to put on a performance, knows how to showcase his partner. And they are going to be a formidable couple. I think people, I jump on board.
Starting point is 01:09:12 Choochoo, we are so on board. So on board, leading the charge for Amora and Mark. Highest scores. We're getting them that mirror ball. Highest scores. Tide with Harry. Yes. Moving on to Sarah Jane Nader and Haley Bills.
Starting point is 01:09:24 They did a drive to Skater Boy, 14, 25. fives and a four. Unfortunately, they were sent home. Yeah. I was super bummed about this. I was really bummed too. I mean, listen, I think when you start off a dance and it all, and it right off the bat looks sloppy and out of place, it's hard to catch people back in. Especially with a jive. It's so hard to get back. It's so fast. And the jive, when it's not perfectly in sync, it's so blaringly obvious. So it's like, I don't know, sometimes a dance and hold, it's not, to the, to the normal person's eye, like me who is not a dance expert at all, like they could say, oh, that was wrong.
Starting point is 01:09:58 And I'd be like, oh, I didn't notice that. But in a jive, I'm like, oh, well, she's off. Right off the bat. She was off, which is unfortunate because it's hard to pull people back into thinking that you're going to be great. Yeah. Because it could get better and it did get better. But you're still thinking about that beginning. Here's what stinks.
Starting point is 01:10:16 Haley, who is so talented and so excited. It was her first season. Everyone was excited for her. She has such a strong fan base online as well. this was a bummer, you know, they got sent home. And I am curiouser thoughts on this. Do you think, because they are both women, it was more obvious of how Sarah Jane compared in dancing?
Starting point is 01:10:41 That's fair. Because I did see people bring up that discussion. Because with the male and female partners, it's so different. Totally. So it's hard. But because you're watching Sarah and Haley, who have kind of like a similar build and look, you can tell
Starting point is 01:10:59 how much she is messing up compared to Haley more? Right. No, I think that's so fair. Because the only time we've seen it was like Jenna and Jojo and Jojo's a phenomenal dancer and has the dance background. Right. So in this situation, yeah, that's so true. I mean, Carrie Ann
Starting point is 01:11:19 immediately being like, I know what everyone's thinking. That was hot. I'm like, was like so inappropriate and just like baiting to me. Weird. Oh, what you just immediately thought like two women, we're going to just say that this is. Beautiful women, you're going to be like,
Starting point is 01:11:35 that was hot. Right. Like I know she's trying to like compliment them, but you know. And it kind of felt like I don't know how to talk about this. Let me. And that was weird to me. Yeah, let me revert back to like a classic stereotype.
Starting point is 01:11:47 Let me revert. Yeah. Let me revert back to being a guy and being like, oh, two chicks. Like, it was a strange. stream right off the bat. And then to be like, so, and by the way, you were off. It was like, wait, wait, okay. And by the way, that wasn't what I was thinking right off the bat.
Starting point is 01:12:02 I was not thinking, oh, how hot are these two together? Like, I know, I know. It was, that was a wild comment. That was weird. Didn't have to do that. Could have just talked about, you know, the dance. Yeah. Also, I feel like that song is not like a song where you're like, that's steamy and hot.
Starting point is 01:12:19 No. Exactly. And it was a jive. Let me tell you. Harry Schum and Jenna at the end. steamy and hot. This was not that. And it just felt like a, you know, a weird.
Starting point is 01:12:31 Weird coming for what, for what they were doing. Jenna, Dewan, and Val closed the show with the tango to call me. They got two sixes and a seven. Another one where I'm like, I'm sorry. We're giving, we're giving Giata a six. A six. And we're given Jenna six. I got to be honest, I started laughing out loud when I watched them because I was like,
Starting point is 01:12:51 she's so damn good. I fucking miss watching her dance so much. I love watching. And here's the thing. Like, okay, they want to say, oh, maybe, you know, her shoulders were up too high. There's, like,
Starting point is 01:12:59 criticism of tango technique that was there. But at the same time, that's fair. But, like, then you can't give Giata six, too. Like, I just, I don't know. Crazy to me.
Starting point is 01:13:14 But watching them, I just was so happy to watch her dance, truly. Like, it just, ugh, she's just a fantastic dancer. So entertaining. I had, like,
Starting point is 01:13:22 an evil laugh. Like, we're watching a train dancer. And once again, like Val can do a full routine of choreography that you would never expect to see week one. So it is very hard to compare like this to something that Giata and Alan were doing. Giata doesn't, like this choreography is going to be way simpler.
Starting point is 01:13:42 And sometimes that does make your brain think, oh, this is bad compared to like something like this. We were like, whoa, they fucking nailed it. Right. And then the judges are like, oh, not as good. And you're like, wait a second. Am I missing something? For sure.
Starting point is 01:13:54 Complicated routine, but it's only going to get better. Yeah. And what did you think of the fact that it was night one and night two? So they separated the guys and the girls. I think if maybe it was mixed, I don't know if that would have been Sarah Jane's exit. However, because it was a girl and a guy that does suck. But I thought, I also thought maybe being like NEPO contestant hurt. If you think about it, it was like the two people that had a wife and a sister who were on the show last season.
Starting point is 01:14:22 I think there's a lot of that. Brooks was two seasons ago. Right. Coming into play, right? The nepo of it all. And then also on top of that, new pros. The new pros paired with that. We saw a pattern between night one and night two.
Starting point is 01:14:34 Originally when these two were cast, the reaction was why these two. And you begin to understand it more when you come around and go, you know what? The cast is the cast. That's who they chose. I was more bummed about seeing Sarah Jane and Haley go than I was seeing Connor and Adele go. That's just my honest. I'm with you on that. there. I would have really loved to have seen Sarah and Sarah Jane and Haley have some more
Starting point is 01:14:59 opportunity. Yeah, I thought that would have been really fun to watch and I was super bummed and, you know, Haley so close with everybody and just like seeing her aunt and uncle come over, you know, the whole thing. But I will say the Nader's, they know how to make a laugh and they have been roasting Sarah Jane because she was off night one. They were supposed to do a dinner that was Sarah Jane and Haley's first dance. they cross it out in our last dance. So, you know, they're making fun of it and joking around. But it is a huge bummer and that can't feel good. No.
Starting point is 01:15:30 No. And that's going to be your worst nightmare. It's like the one thing you do. I think anybody that goes on dancing with the stars are like just bare minimum, let me make it through a week one. It's any competition show. Any competition show. You just want to be the first one.
Starting point is 01:15:43 I don't care when I'm sent home if I make it past week one. For sure. Exactly that. But we are off to such a hot start. This is going to be. Such a fun season. We're back in the full swing of things. And then it's Tuesday every week going forward.
Starting point is 01:15:56 8 p.m. It won't be a double night, a double whammy, which was so fun this week. It was really fun. But it's a lot. Yeah, that's when we get the Huff Show coming in. Maybe not as many sponsored Paris baguette dances. How much more can you do until you're literally dancing with baguettes? Did he watch the after show at all?
Starting point is 01:16:18 I did watch a little bit. Robert Irwin is a good host. He's a great. host. Dylan Effron, not so much, in my opinion. Dylan was a little nervous, I thought. There was, like, I only watched a little bit, but like the first interview that Dylan did, and then he went, back to you, Robert.
Starting point is 01:16:32 He did that in the beginning, too, where he's like, and back to you, Robert. Like, he was like a news reporter. He was like, he was like, an news reporter. He was like, and back to you. Derek did call Tyler Dylan the first night. He did. Now he made a video calling everybody by the wrong name to, but, like, come on. come on that was a very funny video it was a funny video uh all right that wraps up the dancing
Starting point is 01:16:56 with the stars recap moving on to a little Mormon wives update macaela has exited the show we will read her statement yeah she's done with it and honestly good for her this is exactly what we were saying on Monday and as she should as and with the more the news coming all the news coming out good for sure so she um had posted posted, you know, a post on Instagram about leaving the show. I'm not going to read both. But then she made an Instagram story. And she said, also to make things even more clear and shut down any assumptions because there's plenty going around and it's still not clear to some people, the only reason I'm leaving the show is because I was told a certain person was coming back.
Starting point is 01:17:40 I told them before agreeing to do six that I wasn't going to film if that certain someone came back because it's unethical and kids are involved. And I'm being put in an unfair position because of the things I've seen and heard that I don't agree with. Not just the barstool video, everyone else saw. Barstool as in the chair. Which, mind you, I saw this video for the first time in March and other things with it that obviously made me question the one side I was hearing and unknowingly enablingly enabling the whole time.
Starting point is 01:18:05 I never knew the depths of it and I still don't. I filmed six because that person was not there. Then we were told she was coming back. I said, great. Then I will not be participating. God bless and goodbye. Haven't filmed a day since. This wasn't a spur of the moment decision and it wasn't influenced a single percent.
Starting point is 01:18:19 So moral of the stories, she's not coming back because Taylor Frankie Paul will be filming. Now there has been more news. TMZ has reported that Taylor Frankie Paul has allegedly cut down parenting time because she has now failed multiple drug test. Not good. This is not good. No, it's not good at all. The parenting time is cut. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:39 And this is why I... Failed multiple court-ordered drug tests and custody disputes with ex-husband, Tate Paul, and ex-boyfriend Dakota. Taylor allegedly failed multiple drug tests in the last 60 days. As a result, we're told the court order that she be limited to eight hours of parenting time each week, four with her two kids with Tate and four with her child with Dakota. The alleged substances involved remain unclear. However, we're told at least one of them is not commonly available as a prescription med. This is why I don't trust Dakota and I don't trust Taylor Frankie Paul and I don't support either of them. I don't. I don't. I don't. I don't care.
Starting point is 01:19:17 no and I'm over it I'm done with it it's like Michaela said over it there's kids involved is very serious and yet she is addicted TFP is addicted to the online approval of others and just sharing everything she posted
Starting point is 01:19:40 it came up on my I don't follow her but it came up on my page today but it was posted a while ago about how she posted a video with, I think, a cop or security or something. And she said, I thought that something else was happening to me, but he just came up to show me support and, like, posted the video. I'm like, why are you posting? I just don't, everything doesn't need to be posted, but in her mind and her brain, it does. And she needs serious help. And it's not to be on TV and it's not to be on social media. None of it. It's coming from all sides now, too. Like, she clearly is not in the headspace
Starting point is 01:20:16 to remove herself from any of these scenarios. And that's sometimes when I'm like, can someone be the adult in the room and be like, hey, we can't be putting her on TV anymore? Like, that's what's crazy to me. And I know, too, it's like, especially with the way, getting the insight of what happened
Starting point is 01:20:32 after she came back for the Bachelorette and like what was being filmed for Mormon wives watching that all unfold is so crazy to me because it's like, I don't know how the Mormon wives producers and the Bachelorette producers aren't talking, to the Bachelor of producers being, well, that was a waste of time. And like this, and like, I don't know
Starting point is 01:20:50 if the Mormon wise producers are like, we don't give a fuck, we're going to throw her in a scene with Dakota right away when she comes back and, like, see what happens. It's just all bad because she, you can tell, she does not have it in her to remove herself from bad situations. And at a certain point, like,
Starting point is 01:21:07 keeping her on TV and giving her, because she will keep thinking what she is doing is okay because that is what's keeping her on TV. Exactly. So it's like at what point do we say we need to get her off TV? For sure. Stop rewarding this behavior and making her the star of this show. Exactly that. That's exactly it. You are continue to platform her and put her on television, which is going to make the person go, well, if I'm making money from it, then I must be doing something right. She doesn't have it in her to like realize that what she, like, she doesn't have it in her to realize,
Starting point is 01:21:40 oh, I need to stop what I'm doing. If anything, she may think that it would, it would be detrimental to her time on TV and all these things. Well, because then her brain probably goes, well, what am I going to do for work? And it's what I said the other day with the comment about like Macy and like her Taylor Frankie Paul just being like, you know, I just like, I have, you know, some people just have the it factor.
Starting point is 01:22:01 Like all these things. It's just like, oh, okay. Plenty of people would watch this show if they kept every whim. Bring to me back. And let TFP, like get her out of here. Let me ask you, is it the it factor or is it the fact? that you have you are a train wreck yeah that people can't look away from yeah I don't know if that's it factor or if you are just exploiting your life in a way no that people think it's so messy
Starting point is 01:22:26 they know just want to watch and it's really so bad now there's just like I just can't believe these people this room are like no we want we're we're going to keep her coming back on this show with with everything that's going on to and failing drug tests and this that it's like this is it's just getting dark. And I know it was, you know what's funny. It was like Jess, I think maybe it was Jesse or something.
Starting point is 01:22:48 One of the episodes was like, kind of kidding, kind of not, but being like, you know, this ends in, this only ends in a really bad way. Right, which nobody wants.
Starting point is 01:23:00 And talking about them in this way doesn't mean you root bad for them. It just means you want something better for these people and what is going on in their lives. And it's so, sad because you don't want it. It lost the entertainment factor. No, it's gone and it's becoming very sad and you want the, you want better for these people and for themselves. And I remember her posting that she started maybe an antidepressant or anti-anxiety medicine a little while back. So it,
Starting point is 01:23:28 it is confusing to me now to be failing drug. Like, what is she taking with that? You know, that's what mixing. You know, that's what I'm saying. What's going on? Yeah. Yeah. It's not good. No, not good at all. That's the update. Good on Michaela for getting out of that. Yeah. And we'll see what happens. Yeah, that was the right move because I think it'll,
Starting point is 01:23:51 I think it'll come around and Michaela will be like, I, you know, every, I don't know if people will follow as she does. They should. Like everyone else should just do, like, should be like, well, we're out. Right. And see what happens, you know. Mm-hmm. But, yeah, that's, I think they're going to look back and be like,
Starting point is 01:24:09 Michaela was making the right moves. 1,000%. All right, that wraps up the topics. Starting point is 01:26:13 We have Tom Bateman in studio. Hello. Thank you so much for being here. We're so excited to meet you and talk to you. Yes, we're so excited. We're already started chatting about bagels. You just got in last night. I know.
Starting point is 01:26:24 How are you feeling? I'm feeling pretty good. I had one of the first things I did was going to have a slice of pizza. Yeah. Because you're doing pizza bagels. Just ticked it off. Saw a guy having a wee up against a trash can. I was like, I'm here.
Starting point is 01:26:36 Yeah, you've arrived. Welcome to New York is what we said. Thank you so much for having. Thank you to bin, man. Yes. What pizza slices did you have? Pepperoni. Okay.
Starting point is 01:26:45 I don't want to think about it too much. There was a lot on the menu, and I thought, I don't want to just be the guy staring at the wall for too long. I just want to go in. You don't want to stick out too much. No, I don't. Pepperoni is my go-to as well. It is? Yeah, it's a classic.
Starting point is 01:26:58 If you've had spicy honey on a pizza, I hadn't until about a week and a half ago. It's very big. They're throwing Mike's hot honey on everything these days. Mike's hot honey. Yeah, that sounds like an ad. It's not. But they really are. You've got some right here.
Starting point is 01:27:13 Yeah. Tom, we have a gift for you. There's flowers. There's some Mike's Hot Honey. But they do, like, even when you go to restaurants, it says, it doesn't just say hot honey, especially here. It says Mike's hot honey. I've noticed that's something that you Americans do.
Starting point is 01:27:25 You really like your brands. It's like you'll say, we're going to have an Advil instead of a pancake. Or a Kleenex. A Kleenex. Right. What do you use as a plaster? What we would call plastic? Like a Band-Aid.
Starting point is 01:27:36 Oh, a Band-Aid. Yeah, yeah. Oh, and that's the brand. But I guess I wouldn't say, if I had a headache, I wouldn't say I need a painkiller because that would sound like I need something a little bit more extreme. Or like a, because you want an ibuprofen. Right. Well, then, well, that's the generic name.
Starting point is 01:27:51 Yeah, yeah, yeah. But we would say I, or at least I would, I would, I'd go, ah, has anyone got any pain killers? Yeah. And Noah would say, do you want an ad boom? Yeah. No, no, no, no one would say, are you looking for something stronger? Let me open my backpack now. Yes, Noah.
Starting point is 01:28:07 Yeah. So you are starring in Love Hypothesis. Yes. Everyone is super excited about this movie to come out. I read the book when it came out. I loved the book. I was so excited when they said they were going to make it into a movie. You and Lily Reinhardt are amazing in this.
Starting point is 01:28:24 We did get to see it and it's so cute. Like I was so excited. I love when I get to watch these movies before everybody else. We feel they boiled. Yeah. Is it, did they give you a screener? Yes. Or did you get to I.
Starting point is 01:28:35 Yes. Sometimes I feel the most sort of flexy showoffy thing is when they go, no, no, we want you to see it in a cinema. and they'll just rent a cinema out and it'll just be me and like this one just me and Daisy just went and I was like this is just so cool sometimes we've done that but sometimes you know
Starting point is 01:28:51 they got you they slap it that they got your email mask across the front it can't be I can't even like airplay it to the TV because like maybe someone watching through the window which I thought right exactly you close the blinds when you play it
Starting point is 01:29:03 I'll put this up on the TV can't even do that we've had you know where we went to go see it in a theater where they shut it down and recently we went do this. And I don't know what happened, but in my head, I thought the director of the film was sitting behind us. I don't know. I misheard. It was really just like an intern. And the whole time, I'm looking at it, I'm like, the director's behind us. Yeah, yeah. And we left. I said, I can't believe
Starting point is 01:29:29 they. She's like, I can't believe the director was there. She was like, that was not the director. Yeah. I love, I really felt special. Yeah. I also do love that you just, you would just believe that. You're like, of course we'd be an assembly with the director. Right. I don't know. Maybe this is like the 18th time he's needed to see it. I couldn't believe it. I was like, maybe he just wants to see our reactions.
Starting point is 01:29:49 That would have been good. But we like a traditional moviegoing experience as well. And sometimes when they do that for you, they're like, they won't even let you bring water into the room. And I'm like, I need a snack. Yeah. A movie is a snack is necessary. Because otherwise it's not a traditional cinema experience, is it? Exactly.
Starting point is 01:30:05 Do you have a go-to movie theater snack? I like, do you guys have the everyman? cinemas here? No, we've got this chain back home. It's called the Everyman. They're so nice because they have it's probably compared to AMC here. Yeah, it's probably it's like you have a, it's kind of like being at a home, it's very sort of soft lighting and
Starting point is 01:30:21 it's sort of like really nice sort of sofas with cushions and stuff. You get comfy. That sounds a lot nicer maybe. And they'll bring food to your table so you sort of like burgers and stuff. It's really nice. So I like those and they do an every man popcorn with everything. So you just get a popcorn. They just throw all these kinds of sweets and stuff and they just like mix it up. Yeah and I do like
Starting point is 01:30:39 that one. Thank you. Oh, yeah? Thank you. So you would eat chocolate inside your popcorn. Who would eat chocolate inside my point? This sounds, is this a debate? You guys. Yes, because he wouldn't have chocolate. No, he does. He was arguing with somebody else here and it became a whole thing online where people were like, that's, you guys are crazy, you guys are animals for putting chocolate in your popcorn. And I was adamant that it tastes better that way. They're worried about the, uh, the getting your hands all chocolatey, the popcorn's warm, your, your, your, you're, you're, you're, use an app.
Starting point is 01:31:09 So how long are you holding it in your hand for, just like long enough for chocolate to melt? That's ridiculous. Tom, exactly. It's very quick. It's in and out. Yes, yes, yes. Nimble. Or you just pour a little bit in at, you know, you don't have to dump the whole box.
Starting point is 01:31:21 Anyway, we digress. We're so excited for everybody to see the movie, like we said. Loved it. What was your first impression of the film? Were you familiar with the book at all? How did you get introduced to the project? I did not know. I didn't even, did I even know it was a book?
Starting point is 01:31:37 I just got a very, old school traditional phone call from my agent saying, do you want to do a rom-com? We've got this script. They'd love you to come and read. And I read it and I thought, oh, I just really love the character. I love who he was,
Starting point is 01:31:51 where he ends up, his journey. So I said, yeah, I'll read. And then I just fell in love with, like, working with Lily. We had to do this chemistry read on Zoom, which was so strange, like, trying to have chemistry. She's like, balanced on this.
Starting point is 01:32:04 So, like, because I was in London, she was in New York and stuff. But I just really loved working with her and I loved the director, Claire and Elizabeth, I just love their vibe. And I thought, God, I really, really like this. And then after I'd been offered it, they said, by the way, it's based on a book. The book's quite popular.
Starting point is 01:32:18 And I just went, okay. And then all the other stuff happened. Yeah. But no, I just completely found in love with it as a script, as a rom-com. And I'd never done a rom-com. I'd never really thought about doing a rom-com. But I really loved what this was saying. It was like these, I love that it's really like a love story between her and her friend.
Starting point is 01:32:38 Like she's everything Lily's character, Olive does, is for her friend on, played by Rachel. And then there's this sort of like, it's like a subplot is the romantic plot. And I just really like that. And I loved what it was saying. And Claire, the director, she said this really cool thing to me about, she said, we live in this world where everyone is so disconnected. No one's listening to each other. No one is, if someone's different to you, just don't entertain the idea of ever coming around to their point of view. She said, what I love about this story is it's two people who could not be more.
Starting point is 01:33:08 more different, could not be further away from each other, through circumstance, have to, like, reach across the great divide between them and hold hands and pretend they're in this relationship. But in doing so, they're moved and they're changed and they see the other person's point of view. And isn't that a great message to have that out there in the world? And I thought, I did not see that from a rom-com. How cool. I was like, whether you're going to, you're not going to change the world with it, but you might,
Starting point is 01:33:31 there might be something that strikes a nerve within people where they go, oh, my God, yeah, like, get out of your own head and into someone else's. Absolutely. And you can tell that you guys handled a story that people love already with so much care. And Lily seems so wonderful. And I feel like you guys have had so much fun together while, you know, filming, promoting. We've been loving watching everything that you guys are doing together. Yes. Yeah, I mean, Lily's introduced me to the world of social media and TikTok and all that, which is kind of nuts. But it's been really fun. And I think if you can't have fun, you should definitely have fun, whatever film you're doing. But especially romantic comedy, you're talking about love and people getting on.
Starting point is 01:34:07 and it's just been really, really cool and fun, yeah, to do that. And especially with, you know, with it being on Amazon, right? Like the, I feel like they have just cornered this kind of rom-com genre, the movies, the TV shows. We're doing full festivals now. Like, you guys got to be a part of all these things. Yeah. Did you know that it was going to come with all these cool sort of activations?
Starting point is 01:34:34 No, activations, yeah. No, I didn't at all. But it's so, it's just made me really excited for film and cinema in general, just this excitement around it. People are just loving it so much. And to do something that has like a fan base already before we'd even started was crazy. We went to Brazil was one of us first stops too. Those guys are amazing. Most diehard fans.
Starting point is 01:34:55 Incredible, aren't they? And you just thought, my God, they're so excited. There's nothing but love. And yeah, it's been, it's been really, really cool. And yeah, I just can't wait for people to see it because it's such just a happy, lovely film, you know. Yeah, yeah, definitely. And the book is different in the sense that it does, like you said, kind of stray from that traditional rom-com story.
Starting point is 01:35:17 And all of her novels, I think, have a different. They got the science element. They're a little nerdy, but they're fun. There's a bit of fan fiction thrown in there. Now, you guys are out of it, you didn't know about the fan fiction, right? And there is a connection because the fans, you know, the author has said, a little fan fiction.
Starting point is 01:35:37 What do they call it? What do they call it? Riloh? Raylo. Raylo. Raylo. Kylo, Ray. Lowe. Kylo Ren and Ray. Ray is Daisy Ridley. And now you, like, did you just have a moment like, whoa, when you found this out? No, it wasn't even, it's so funny that people, they're like, this can't be true.
Starting point is 01:35:56 Yeah. Truth is stranger than fiction. It really was. I mean, when they mentioned that it was based on Ray Lowe, I just assumed that, I just assumed that, Ali Hazelwood started writing because she was inspired by that. She thought, oh my God, I'm going to write these characters. And then realize she loves writing and then just wrote and just went on and on and then wrote what she wrote.
Starting point is 01:36:15 When I found out, I really did just go, oh, right, that's why she started writing. I even mentioned it to Daisy. I said, have you ever heard about this book? And she went, I think someone mentioned it to me at one point, but how cool. But we really didn't think of it as this big thing until, honestly, even throughout the filming of it, I don't think it was really a thing. It wasn't really until the press store started. and everyone really, really sort of made me aware of like how big a figure it was.
Starting point is 01:36:37 You go, my God, yeah, okay, okay. Which just feels very, like, serendipitous for that to happen. It is. And it does, it does sound crazy, but at the same time, it's so crazy that it's... Can't even plan it. That's such a sort of nuts thing. And I don't think anyone meant it either. I think it was, I think when Lily found out about it, she went, are you kidding me?
Starting point is 01:36:57 That's nuts, but I'd been cast her out. And she went, that's hilarious. And we just thought, wow, yeah, do impress for this is going to be. Interesting. Yeah. Everyone's going to bring it up, including us. Included. We are no different.
Starting point is 01:37:11 Yes, yes. You know, we, so while we were sort of doing a little background reading about you and whatnot, there's sort of a mixed number on how many siblings you have. Yeah, we went back and forth. Which shows how many there are because it's like, yeah, the difference between two and three. You're like, this is a bit, you know, but. Yeah, because I said, like, you're one of 14. That's it. I'm one of 14.
Starting point is 01:37:35 One of 14. We got to correct your Wikipedia page. Does it say that I'm one of 12? One of 12? One of 12? Someone go in there and fix that. Yeah, yeah, someone fixed that. That is, that's a lot of siblings.
Starting point is 01:37:49 It is. Did anybody else want to be in the performing arts world or were you the odd man out? My twin thought about it for a second. I think he, how far did he get? We did amateur dramatics for a little bit. He did something with me. But no, no one really, no one really wanted to. I guess when you have that many siblings, you kind of want to find your lane
Starting point is 01:38:08 and then just sort of stick to it. So there's all kind of, I've got sisters who are farmers, like a dairy farmer, a sheep farm, man, have we got all the farmers? Teachers, you know, so many more brothers do so many different things. I'm the only actor in there, but yeah, yeah, which is surprising, really. I would have thought you got that many. Yeah, right. You're going to double up somewhere.
Starting point is 01:38:28 Exactly. It's like, yeah. Somebody inspired it down the line. Is your twin an identical twin? or fraternal? No, he's not. He's actually in Murder on the Orient Express, a film I did. Eight years ago? Eight years ago? 2017, I think. Oh my God, yes. Wikipedia is correct. He's actually in that. He wanted to, I think they wanted to meet Penelope Cruz, him and his wife.
Starting point is 01:38:50 Anyway, Ken, who's directing me, he said, he was like, oh, no one's allowed on set, but he'd met my twin before because I'd done a show with, I've done a play with Kenneth Branner, and he said, you're twin's not identical, is he? I said, no, and he goes, let's get him as an extra. and then he can meet everyone. So he's in the train, where the train leaves at the beginning of the film. He's like in there with his wife, Celine. That's awesome. It would have been a little trippy if it was identical.
Starting point is 01:39:11 They're like, wait a second. I'm walking past there, yeah. Yeah. That is so fun. You know, we did. The family business thing made me smile that you just said, because there was a point where in my gap year when I was auditioning for drama schools and trying to save money to go to drama schools,
Starting point is 01:39:27 I worked in a restaurant and I got my brother a job there and my twin there. And my baby brother, Ben, still works in restaurant. He's a sort of restaurant manager in Oxford where I'm from. My twin brother still works in bars. And it was quite funny. At some point, I think someone walked in and they just went, you got three of the brothers.
Starting point is 01:39:44 I was running the bar with my twin. And then my baby brother was the sort of manager. And it did look like some family. Right. Bring somebody in. When you have a premiere and does everybody want an invite? Like, that's a lot of people. That's a good question.
Starting point is 01:40:00 They do. I mean, also, they've all got their own lives, too. They're like, maybe I'll catch you when it gets to streaming. Exactly. If that, they're just sort of like, are you in a thing at the moment? Like, people keep telling me you're in a thing. They did all come, again, murder on their own express. They did all come to that.
Starting point is 01:40:14 And that was not all of them, but because there's so many. And I genuinely, it sounds like I had to get a mini bus for them to come off from to London. So it was quite a lot. Isn't that the best, though, family humbles you? You're like, they don't care what I do. No. No, yeah.
Starting point is 01:40:29 Do you have brother and sister? You must have. How many have you got? We're only families of three. Yeah, yeah. So I have an older brother, an older sister, and she has a younger brother. We're like the same setup, but she's the youngest and I'm the oldest. Nice.
Starting point is 01:40:41 Do they get excited about what you do? I don't know. Sometimes. Do you find it's like at the beginning, I think it's when you start doing the thing, they celebrate the success of, oh, you wanted to do this thing. Just like you guys, it's a very competitive industry. Once you sort of start making some successes, they get excited. excited about that.
Starting point is 01:41:01 For sure. But then after a while, they kind of go, oh yeah, you're just doing your thing, which I think is right. And you know what? That's like,
Starting point is 01:41:07 so we do a podcast, live shows. We will tour and do a lot in, like, in little theaters and it's really fun. And when we first started, it was like, all of our family came.
Starting point is 01:41:19 Like it was like, cannot be missed, whatever. And now that we've been doing it for a few years, I text my parents like, hey, you guys like want to come up for the holiday show.
Starting point is 01:41:25 They're like, we'll see. Right? They're going to cancelations the day up from the family. They're like, we're not going to make this one. I'm like, maybe.
Starting point is 01:41:31 Oh. Yeah. When did you stop loving me? Do you know, my dad said something. So my dad is a music teacher, but he also plays concerts and stuff. And sometimes we'd go along to see if he said, oh, there's this one that you really, really like. So we go and listen.
Starting point is 01:41:47 And he said it to me when I did my third play in London in the West End. And I got very sort of lucky with timing. So I did like three back-to-back shows in the West End for about a year and a half. And the third one was doing, Duchess of Malfy at the Old Vitt. and he's my mom goes oh when are we going to go up and see it and dad just went oh i'm going to miss this one and mom got really upset about it and he said look tom wanted to be an actor his first two professional jobs we might see and it's amazing and we know how hard and competitive it is and we went and we support him he said he's going to be an actor and we can't go and see everything he goes there isn't
Starting point is 01:42:21 the time and he said you don't come and see all of my concerts do you it's because you accept it's my job and if there's something that he really wants me to see a dad you'd love this. He goes, of course I'll come and see it. But he said, I can't be bothered to go to every time. Because then it also kind of makes it seem like you've won a competition to be there. And, you know, and I think it actually kind of grounded everything a little bit. But it does still hurt though, right? When they go, yeah, we're not going to come and see this one. But sometimes I feel like it takes, you know, it eases it because there's a little less pressure. Completely. Performing in front of strangers, I find to be easier than doing it in front of people
Starting point is 01:42:56 you know. Because you're going to see them again. They're going to let you know. exactly how they feel about it. They're going to be very honest. Yes. You could do great. Why did you say that thing? They're going to stick the one thing that you said wrong. But strangers, you know, you may never see them again.
Starting point is 01:43:10 Completely. Also, I think to say, I wonder if you guys have a version of this, but we all have a sort of, you know, like our work version of ourselves. You know what I mean? And there's a sort of like a defensive armor that you kind of put on a bit subconsciously. But there's a version of yourself that you are when you're at work and when you go home, you're very different. To blur those lines can be quite strange.
Starting point is 01:43:28 And it can be quite. exposing and I've found like particularly doing live theater if I'm acting in a play and I know say my twins watching every time I do anything it might be like I'm reaching out to touch the flower and I'm like Merlin's watching me do that and you see and it kind of like bursts the illusion that you're trying to sort of create it sort of makes it harder to or you lock eyes. Don't lock eyes. And that's the worst. You know when you say something you know because we do a podcast and we riff and you say something inappropriate and you look and you lock eyes with your dad and you go, I'm just going to pretend that guy. He wasn't. I forgot he was here.
Starting point is 01:44:04 And the, the, the amount of conversation you can have just in that one, you'll say something lock and there's just a, we're going to talk about this later. Yes, we're talking, I'm a bit ashamed and you know it too. And oh, God, it all happens. So when, when do you think you got the acting bug? What was the first thing that you did that you thought, I want to be an actor? Jeez, I should have had an answer to this question by now. I don't really know. I remember, I remember doing a school, play, I think it was dark of the moon, this slightly obscure play about witches. And I remember doing it and thinking, I only did it to hang out with my friends after school and the few of them were doing it. But I remember thinking, I don't care about you as much as this random thing,
Starting point is 01:44:45 this feeling of doing this thing. I think it's the camaraderie as well. I thought, oh my God, I feel like I'm part of something. And there's just that magic moment. It's very, you know, film and theatre is quite different. But the theatre, there's this sort of private bubble where you create and you play and you just do your own thing and then that sort of nervousness before the first night and you can just hear the crowd out there but you're all in it together it's there's there's honestly no feeling in the world like it and that's what you get addicted to i guess so i guess the answer to that question is just the second i did it i became hooked on it and i remember doing a play years later it was one of the last things i did on stage i was playing coriolanus shakespeare's
Starting point is 01:45:23 coriolanus up at the sheffield crucible in england and i remember the show started i hadn't done a play in like five years. And the play started with me underneath the stage and I sort of come up. I remember sat there going, there's the little light blinking that the stage manager you click it to say, yeah, I'm in place. And I clicked the button. And I thought, what the hell am I doing? Why am I doing this? I feel so sick, so nervous, so scared. And as luck would have it, when the show finished, I ended up underneath the stage again. My character's being killed and I came under the stage and just before I had to go on for the bow. And it's so interesting, the bookends of thinking, why the hell am I doing this? I want to run away.
Starting point is 01:45:58 and never be seen again. And then at the end is the answer to that question. I went, that's why you do it. That feeling, I don't really, I can't put it into words, but it's the magic of it. Right. And it's not really a feeling of relief, but you're proud of yourself. Yeah. Which is.
Starting point is 01:46:14 But it's like an extraordinary feeling to feel about yourself because I feel like we can all be hard on ourselves. So you're like, I did the thing. Yeah. And I loved it. And you worked hard at it. Yes. That's so fulfilling.
Starting point is 01:46:25 Completely. Yeah. And I think just connecting to something. something bigger than yourself too is so, I think we're saying, yeah, like the world we live in today, everyone's so separate, right? And we're all like living our own experience. I think what I love so much about what I do, what you guys do too. There's a communion here. Like, it only exists if you're doing it with someone else. You can't do a podcast on your own. You can't act on your own. You need fellow actors. You need a crew. You need an audience. That is, I think, the thing that
Starting point is 01:46:53 I love so much about it is that you're proud of it, but it's like a communal. pride of we all did this. Even an audience, it's like, yeah, this story that just took place that it only existed because you were there to hear it to see it. That magic spell that's cast, we are all proud of. Yeah, and it's like being a part of a team. And each audience can dictate how different each show is, I feel like. There's different responses to everything you do.
Starting point is 01:47:18 I feel like we've really heard about your love of live theater. How did that transition to TV and film? How different was that for you? It was pretty, uh, I mean, It was always something I wanted to do only because I didn't really grow up with much theater. I couldn't afford it. But film and television was always something I loved and became obsessed with. Just any element of storytelling, I always love reading books and stuff.
Starting point is 01:47:45 So it wasn't that bigger transition from one to the other, just opportunity, I think. But I remember feeling the big difference for me was the level. to which of detail. In theater, you have to create everything yourself. Like, and it's, you have to create this illusion, and it's this spell this cast, this very, uh, that's why we love theater. You step onto a film set and everything is real.
Starting point is 01:48:10 It smells real. You're on location. If it's cold, you're cold. If you're hot, your heart, you're hot. Like, it's all just real and there to, to, to be sort of discovered in the moment. And that's something that I became very, very addicted to that, that sort of, the immediacy right there.
Starting point is 01:48:26 Um, But I can't quite remember where it was, really, where it sort of happened. I think I sort of like slowly got sort of bigger parts and stuff and then and then started to do film. One of my favorite roles that you have done was based on a true story, which I thought was so fun. Such an interesting character. Bad guy. Bad guy. But misunderstood.
Starting point is 01:48:48 You kind of. You kind of roof for him. Yeah. You know, it was one of those things that I think the reaction in the first season is so fun when you figure out what's going on. Yeah. What was that like for you kind of uncovering that character and figuring how you were going to play that? Well, it was, that's why I wanted to do it because I remember thinking, what do you want here? Like the casting process is quite rigorous.
Starting point is 01:49:09 And I think it's because they didn't know. They're like, do we want a terrifying guy or a funny guy, a lovable guy, not a lovable guy? And I think they landed on all of the above, which was really fun to play. And I remember like reading with Chris Messina. They sort of flew me out to do a chemistry with him. And I really loved it because they kept going, now do it like this, now do it like this. now do both at the same time. And that's why I wanted to do the show.
Starting point is 01:49:30 I thought this is super fun just doing that. Yeah, that's a fun show. Yeah, it was very fun. I think it came across exactly how you described. Like, you love him but hate him, but don't, you don't hate him, but you should. It's all of those things. Yeah, yeah. That is very true.
Starting point is 01:49:46 I feel like when you, and breaking in to television, now that feels like there's not as much of a divide because you can stream everything and they're so. big where it's like English TV, American TV, probably when we were growing up, it felt very different. Yeah, yeah. Now everyone's kind of watching the same things. Like, you know, we can all watch the gentleman on Netflix. It's like, you know, we can all do our discern here or there.
Starting point is 01:50:12 But was there any American television that you grew up absolutely loving or wanting to be a part of? Oh, yeah. I mean, well, when I was a kid, I remember we used to what it was like, the Simpsons, Buffy, the Vampires, Lair and Fresh Prince of Bel Air. They were, they were sort of like 6 p.m. until like 7.30 just. and I loved all of them. But no, not really.
Starting point is 01:50:31 No, not really. It was like films and stuff. I never really thought, my God, I want to, because I was quite late. You know, you sort of meet a lot of actors. They knew when they were five or six or whatever. They started doing it. I was kind of late.
Starting point is 01:50:41 It was my like 17, 18, and when I realized this could be a thing. But I always loved American stuff so much. I just love the world of it. Still coming here now, driving around New York. I think, my God, I've been watching films and TV set in New York all my life to be here. it's real, man. You made it. I love it.
Starting point is 01:51:01 Did you feel... Sometimes we need that. Yeah, we do to be reminding because we're here every day. Yeah. Are you both in New Yorkers? I'm about to... Outside of...
Starting point is 01:51:09 Yeah. I'm about to be again. Oh, yeah, you're moving back? Well, I'm from New York. She's from New Jersey. I'm from New Jersey, but I've been living in Manhattan for now over 10 years.
Starting point is 01:51:19 So, you know, people say that the 10-year mark is like when you can call yourself a New Yorker. Sure. The real New Yorkers say, you have to be... born here to be a real New Yorker. We kind of did a swap that I've been living in Jersey, but now I'm coming back to New York, which is
Starting point is 01:51:32 why I have that same excitement as you now where I'm like, ah, I'm in New York. Yeah, yes. You mentioned starting at an older age than most people do, you know, 17, 18 years old, when people start, they start really young. Did you feel like you were out of disadvantage at all? Or did you feel okay?
Starting point is 01:51:51 Like, you know what? It's good I started at a later age. Hey, I've never thought about that. No, I mean, no. I don't really, I mean, I got a bit jealous sometimes when you meet these, I think this thing I'm filming at the moment, I'm filming Harlan Coben's newest thing for Netflix called The Woods. And there are people in it younger than me who've been acting longer than me, which is a bit of a head screw. You go, oh my God, that's so strange. They went, yeah, I started acting when I was six. I thought, my God, you've had, you've had like 10 years on me and they, you know, but I never saw myself as a
Starting point is 01:52:21 a disadvantage. I think you can, I've always been a bit of, I've just sort of seen my, my path as my path. And remember someone very early on in my life saying, never look sideways. Like it's very tempting to go, wow, what are they doing? I wish I could have some of that. But you go, he put it, if you look sideways, you're going to crash into something. Like, just stay looking at what you're doing and just enjoy your journey. But there, there are, you know, we're also working in an industry where you kind of have to, you have to sort of build and keep, you know what I mean? the opportunities, hopefully, should you like keep working, they come to you more and more. The more you work, the more opportunities you get to have had that head start sometimes if someone
Starting point is 01:53:01 started at eight. By the time they're like 18, they've been kicking around for 10 years, you know, and everyone knows who they are. But I am where I am and I wouldn't change the thing. Yeah, yeah. What did you take or learn from Lily? Because kind of like you mentioned someone who was thrust into it pretty early. And like, and it was. Maybe, you know, first couple things you're doing or first thing you're doing with Riverdale, and it blew up where she was just like instantly famous. Did you kind of get any tips from her of how she's dealt with it all? A little bit.
Starting point is 01:53:35 I mean, she protects herself a lot. But I think it's one of the reasons that she's so, in her words, chronically online. I think she likes to be able to control the narrative around her, I think because so much of the control was taken away from her. which is what happens when you sort of, like you say, you sort of thrust into that fame. And one of the things I have taken from her,
Starting point is 01:53:57 I said it to her the first time the other day. She's so amazing at, like, just being healthy with her boundaries, what she wants and what she needs in a professional situation. And it can be so easy to just, like, give everyone what they want from you
Starting point is 01:54:11 because we're all very grateful to be here. So you kind of go, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll do these things. Lily's so good at just going, no way, I want it like this. Hang on.
Starting point is 01:54:18 She's really great at doing that. It shows a great strength and confidence. And I know that she has to work at it because she'll often afterwards go, oh, God, I can't believe how to say that. But you go, you did it so well in the moment. I just go, wow, we both be doing like posing for something, thinking like, I feel like an absolute idiot here. And she's the one that goes, hang on, this feels stupid.
Starting point is 01:54:36 Can we just go back and sort of, and I greatly admire that about her and wish I could have a little bit. Yeah, I mean, that is absolutely something to admire and something we could all learn from. I've heard her talk about that a bit online where she said that she puts it in her contracts as she does her makeup. And, you know, sometimes I feel like as an actor you could walk on there, like, we're going to make you look a certain way. But she has her boundaries. And that's incredible in something to highly respect.
Starting point is 01:55:02 Absolutely. Absolutely. And I like that, like, you know, she's an executive producer on the project. And there's certain things. I know that she was locked in for love hypothesis. And then you guys did your chemistry reasons. She had to kind of pick or help pick who was going to star across from her. which is a lot of pressure, I think, to be like,
Starting point is 01:55:23 and was there any pressure on your end that you're like, ooh, she's kind of the one who's... She's my boss. Yeah, she's kind of the one who's going to pick me here? Yeah, a little bit. I mean, when we, ultimately, when we did the chemistry read, even though it was me wanting to get the job, you know, and I knew they were reading other guys.
Starting point is 01:55:39 So I was thinking, like, oh, I want to do my best job. You're also sussing out would I want to work with these people? Because should they offer it to you, you also got to go, did I like that? And I just loved working with us. much. She gave up, I think she was doing a movie at the time, and she was just so present. And she herself, I remember we'd done two or three reads of it. And she went, the producers and everyone went, okay, we're going to move on. And she went, hang on, hang. Can we just do
Starting point is 01:56:02 another one where me and Tom were just like improv? And I love her for this, because not only did it give me another shot at it, we could show something else, but it let me feel like we were teammates instead of, because at first I did think, I was like, she's also would be my boss. She's, she's your producer on it. But she never felt that. way. She just felt like throughout the whole of the shoot, she just had such great care for it. And there was never a version where she was like, producer Lily or not. She was just wanting it to be the best that it could be the whole time. Yeah. I feel like you can feel that from watching it too. I read that you kind of compared these characters to Mr. Darcy and
Starting point is 01:56:42 Elizabeth Bennett, that you get some of that feel from these two, which I totally see. While you were while you were playing the role, did you pull any information, any inspiration? Did you put it in a computer? Did you pull any inspiration from that character? Yeah, like it was really his start point. And I mean, he was kind of pitched to me like that. You know, my agent said he said he's kind of a Mr. Darcy, misunderstood. They think he's this one thing.
Starting point is 01:57:07 And then sort of slowly you peel back the layers. He's like, it's a Mr. Darcy sort of arc. And hell yeah, I did. I sort of, I went back and watched. I love the Colin Firth one very much. And he's great, Matthew McFagin. Oh, hell, he's one of the great. That's my favorite one.
Starting point is 01:57:20 Yes. Yeah, I watch that one like 40 times. Yeah, there's a new one coming out too. Yeah, there's a new one coming out. It'll be great to. Which is your favorite one. Yeah, yeah, yes. But I, no, I did.
Starting point is 01:57:28 I went and watched them and I thought, I thought, yeah, it's just like watching that arc sort of grow in sort of the moments that the character is revealing something to other people, but also revealing it to himself going, my God, what does it feel like to sort of maybe let someone in a little bit? So I did, yeah. It was good fun. Yeah, that is fun. And you're also playing a scientist, and it's funny because I think as a view
Starting point is 01:57:47 where I watch it and when there was words being thrown out, I'm like, I could not, I have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. I was going to say, did you know anything when it got to the real stuff? You're like, I'm reading the words on the page. It's all lies. I tell you, one of the hardest things I've ever genuinely had to do was the first day on this. It was one of the hottest days in Montreal. They hadn't worked out the AC unit. No one really knew each other. We were very stressed. I was a little bit jet lagged still. And I had to do the scene where I'm saying, where I'm setting up the premise of the hypothesis where I say, yeah, let's date each other. And I have to just reel off pages and pages of science.
Starting point is 01:58:26 And it was kind of, it was, I remember thinking this is, actors have, you know, the actor's nightmare where you're on set and you don't know any of your lines and they go action and you're going, what do I do? This was real for me in this moment. I went, oh my God, the cameras are rolling. This is real and I have no idea how I'm going to get through this moment. It's like language you can't really fake. You can't change the language of it.
Starting point is 01:58:49 There's no like emotional hook to it. It's just me just talking out of it. And it's not like something where they go, yes, improv. That's great. Just a bit of improv chemistry stuff. So yeah, I met a version of myself that day. I had to dig deep. And I went, oh, God, this is what you do when you're terrified.
Starting point is 01:59:05 This is how you do it. What is that like, right? Like you're filming and you forget your line and you want to remember it so badly. But you have to ask, right? you're like, I don't remember? Is that a real thing? Do you know what? In that one, I just sort of, it was more, in that moment for me, it was more, keep the cameras rolling.
Starting point is 01:59:28 Don't shout at me. Let me just find, because I knew it was in there too, you know what I mean? I'd worked really hard at it and I'd got it under my belt. It just happened to be the first day of the shoe where you kind of on a roller coaster anyway. And we did. We sort of got there. but it is a, yeah, it's a thing. You must have a version of it, right?
Starting point is 01:59:49 What's in your guys job? There must be a version where you're going, oh, God, what am I doing here? No, it's more so we say something and we go, no, you got to cut that out. It's more so at I leave and then at 12 a.m. at night, this happened last night. I text them and go, can you guys before this episode goes live?
Starting point is 02:00:05 Can you please cut that out? Because I just remembered, I said it. And then I go, I am so sorry. I deeply apologize. And then I say, but this is your job. so can you please cut it out. It's a hard back and forth. What did you say?
Starting point is 02:00:18 I can't because I'm going to cut it out. She can't tell the story again or I'll say, and then I'm going to make their jobs harder again. But yes, that does happen. And, you know, I think a podcast obviously allows for us to get into laughing fits where we joke around, we keep that in because the audience feels like they're sitting here with us. But as an actor, you get into a laughing fit and it could be fun for the moment and you have
Starting point is 02:00:42 a blooper, but then does it feel like, oh, no, we're wasting people's time on set. They want to get this done. Because I've thought about that. Oh, how fun that must be to get into a blooper laughing thing. And then I'm like, wait, no, you're an asshole. There's people working around you on set and you're taking up their valuable time. Yeah. Mike's not going to get to say goodnight to his kid tonight because we were having so much fun.
Starting point is 02:01:06 It's not true. And that's when you do sort of go, God, I hate actors. I hate actors so much. I did have one on my first play, my first professional job I was doing much to about nothing in the West End and my, I had to cue this huge scene change revolving scene thing.
Starting point is 02:01:25 I could not say my line because I was laughing so hard because this wonderful actor Elliot Levy just intentionally tried to make me laugh. It was successful. And I couldn't do it and it was awful because I remember thinking they're not going to notice. But it went on so long that the audience, they started like coughing.
Starting point is 02:01:40 and stuff of just going, there's just silence. And I don't think they found it very funny. And that was one of the, I can close my eyes and go back there. When nobody else is in on the joke, but you and your friend, it's like being in school and you and your friend,
Starting point is 02:01:51 you can't stop laughing, but the teacher's getting mad and you start laughing more. It's like, it must be a word for that. It's the most delicious feeling of the world. Oh my God, it really is just the feeling of not being able to speak.
Starting point is 02:02:01 It's such a good feeling. Just not being able to stop. And then sometimes it goes on too long and you're like, okay, it's over now. You have to realize when the moment's, And there's like a come down, which I'm bad at. Then you get the second wave and you're like, now they're pissed with me. And now I'm laughing about that.
Starting point is 02:02:16 And then 20 minutes later you bring it back up. But I'd imagine, you know, the people on set, they're like, we can't even hear what they said that was funny. I know. And let's be honest, usually it's not funny. I mean, if you're doing something with Steve Correll or Tina Faye and they're riffing and they're improving and they're making you laugh, 100%. You're probably having the boom operator and everyone is also laughing. When it's just silly old me being an idiot, it's not so. It's not so cute.
Starting point is 02:02:41 You said that maybe rom-coms weren't on your radar. Do you have any dream project in mind? Is there a certain role that you're dying to play? Like you're waiting for it to come across your desk. I should have an answer to that as well, shouldn't I? I did. I'm obsessed with Olivia Wilde as a filmmaker. I think she's so, so good.
Starting point is 02:03:02 Have you seen a new film? Oh, my God. It was incredible. And she is. She's so good at it. I want it. I'd love to have just like. being able to just be on set watching how she did that and how she...
Starting point is 02:03:13 It's a masterclass in both acting and directing. Everything. Incredible. And it's just stunt. And all of them, like the performance she's got out of everyone, just the film itself. Anything Olivia Wilde would do, I would cut off my arm to be a part of. But there's not, it's a funny thing. I wonder if you guys do have a version of it.
Starting point is 02:03:29 It's hard to know, like, what's the dream role? Because you go, well, I don't know until I see it. Yeah, yeah. And I don't. And my favorite things I've been in, I didn't know the love hypothesis before. it just sort of came your way and this thing I'm filming at the moment Harlan Coben's thing for Netflix I didn't know about it and then it's it's been such a great job I love it so much I'm still in the

And I will say, you know, your name has been tossed around. For what? Ginny Weasley?
Starting point is 02:04:17 For which role? Yes. No, I have seen, because I'm deep in the TikToks. I'm deep in the fan castings. I've seen Sirius Black. I've seen Lupin. Oh, hey, wow, they're such good roles, aren't they? Lupin.
Starting point is 02:04:30 They're amazing roles. There are some really good roles. Think about it if it comes across your dance. Yeah. And just know where you. heard it. Yes. You heard it here first.
