Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, Chicks in the Office listeners. You can find every episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube. Prime members can listen ad free on Amazon Music. What's up, everyone? It's Chicks in the Office with Ria and Fran, giving you that Friday energy on a Wednesday. Happy Wednesday, everybody. Oh, my God. How great was dancing with the stars? How great was it when we were, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:00:25 Oh, my God. We were, I mean, I can't believe we were on TV. No, no, I can't believe we're on TV. Dancing in the background, this has been our dreams. I mean, look, it's one thing to be on TV here. It's another thing. Can we just discuss that it's the first day of fall? And it feels.
Starting point is 00:00:38 It feels like fall. It feels like fall. Like, I can feel that like in the air. And I just want to, I just want to put on my fur coat. Your sweaters? Oh, yeah. Like out the sweaters. High neck sweaters.
Starting point is 00:00:48 That's what I want to do. Yeah. Okay. Cut, cut, cut, cut. Rob, it's not working. I thought I sounded just like her. No, cut. This isn't working.
Starting point is 00:00:54 We need Fran back. Really? Yeah. Am I fired? You're fired. God damn it. Okay. You can leave now.
Starting point is 00:01:01 All right, that's enough of Rob for now. We'll get to him later. Great interview at the end of today's episode. So look forward to that. We're going to get into today's show. We're going to talk all about Dancing with the Stars last night. We got Taylor Swift news. More topics to talk about. Unfortunately, Fran is not here today. She is sadly at a funeral. So it's just going to be Noah and I, but we're still going to break down everything from Dancing with the Stars and all the other topics that I said. I mean, we got to just get right into it. fresh off a red eye right now went from Monday
Starting point is 00:01:34 we filmed something in the morning that we cannot talk about yet to doing the podcast to then going to the airport getting to L.A. To the surprise dancing with the stars appearance.
Starting point is 00:01:45 Little background info on that. I'm going to take everyone back a little bit. First of all, hi Noah. I'm here. Noah's here. No, is here. Dangerous when it's just us. It is dangerous.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Especially with these topics. Yeah. Dancing with the Stars and Taylor. Taylor Swift, there's a lot of room for, like, saying something that could offend people that Fran might not let us say, you know. Yeah, right, right. No, either way, we're going to be great.
Starting point is 00:02:08 And we're very excited to get into everything. But I do want to take it back a little bit. So a couple weeks ago, we find out Tyler Cameron is on Dancing with the Stars. We're texting with him. And he's like, girls, what should I do for, you know, viral hit? I think at the time he said TikTok night. But I think that was last year. And then they changed.
Starting point is 00:02:29 of viral hits, whatever. And I was like, you know, you should do girls like at LaRoy and have an off-campus moment and do the Garrett Graham dance. Like if we're talking viral off the top of the head, we know Tyler Cameron loves taking his shirt off. Let's play into that. And didn't hear much after that. Fran was like, that's genius. Totally should do that. And then I think it was the week after or whatever, Tyler was like, we are doing girls. And I'm like, oh my God, I can't believe an idea that I had panned out like this. Like, this is so exciting. Yada yada. Last week, they announced that this week is going to be the dance. So, oh, my God, I'm all excited. I'm like, this is my idea. Not to take too much credit, but I am taking credit because it was
Starting point is 00:03:21 fully my idea. And Tyler calls and he's like, I want to, you know, hype this up, you know, I'm like, oh, can we post about it? He's like, I don't know if it's out yet, but turns out they had posted already the songs. So I posted on my story, the whole thing. And he calls us, he's like, you guys should come to the show, like fly out, come be in the audience, whatever, be my guest. And we were like, oh, that would be awesome. You know, we're kind of have a hectic week, you know, a lot to make this happen, but that would be great. And he's talking about how he wants to do, you know, a moment where people crowd around.
Starting point is 00:03:59 him and do the dance like Belmont did when he was at Kid LaRoy's concert. And, you know, he's talking about having other people in it. And I'm like, well, what about can we, can we be in that part? Like, that would be fun. I think it would be cool if we were in that part. And he's like, oh my God, yeah, if you come, like, you guys will do that. That would be so good. Da-da-da-da-da-da. Let me get confirmation. So we waited for some confirmation. And it wasn't until the end of the weekend, like Sunday night or whatever that we found out we were doing it. but immediately we booked our flights. We were like, we got to get there.
Starting point is 00:04:30 We want to be a part of this. To our surprise, we were front row, front and center. We were not expecting that. And we got to be a part of Tyler and Sharna's dance for the Garrett Graham moment, which he crushed. And listen, the feedback that he got was that it wasn't much salsa. Now, viral hits, I think you're talking. to create a viral moment, in my opinion. You're trying to get votes. They know what they're doing. Sharna and Tyler knew what they were doing here with this dance. And I think that they did it.
Starting point is 00:05:07 You know, they got the viral moment. People are talking about it nonstop on TikTok on Instagram, social media. It was so awesome to be a part of. I mean, we were freaking out, so nervous. I was just incredible. They're just insane together. Sharna is so unbelievably cool. You know, someone like, she's like, oh baby, can you pass me that? Like just in casual talk and she's Australian, so it just comes across so cooler. Like, if I was just calling everybody baby, it might not come across. It would just be like very, it would come across more Long Island. Like, oh, baby, you know that. I don't even know what the fuck that was. You know what I mean? And so we were so nervous. They were like, you're going to have flashlights. When he takes
Starting point is 00:05:47 his shirt off, you got to hit the flashlight dance. So we're expecting like you're not really going to be able to see us. And then boom. Camera cuts to us. when they're giving Tyler his scores, big close-up moment. The camera, like, because at first I was like, oh, yeah, you can see you, like, if you're looking in the background. But when it just, it basically just was like a planned choreographed movement into you. Well, Tyler did tell us, he was like, if, like, you stand here, the camera's going to come up to you guys. And I was like, ah, like, you don't know, you know, they never know.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Because later on in the night, and why I say you don't know is because when Mora went, who we love and adore and Mark, oh my God, Mark is just so cool. They are such a fantastic team. I am rooting so hard for them. They're amazing. But I was sitting next to Monet Exchange and Tara Lipinski, and they were there for Mora.
Starting point is 00:06:45 And the camera had me and Fran listed as Mora's friends. That was unreal. And I felt so bad that Mora's going to watch back and be like, who are they? We had dinner in Fiji. We did. We did. And she, you know, commented last week that she loves us.
Starting point is 00:07:03 But she's going to be like, what the fuck? Those are not my friends. But we were listed as Moore's friends, which goes back to Danny and Madolla season when they had those little kids as Danny's friends. I think it was a fuck up because I think that's what happened. When everyone was texting us after like, oh my God, you guys are there for Tyler and Moore? I'm like, I mean, we are in spirit, but we weren't. And Mark, too. And Mark.
Starting point is 00:07:24 We weren't invited by them. We were invited by Tyler, but of course we're supporting them. So it was so funny that we were. And that's why I think, you know, you plan to have that camera moment, but you really don't know where the camera's going to end up because I don't think more would have expected us. Is there anywhere you can see like the actual feed of like, no.
Starting point is 00:07:44 So it was just like during commercial break, I would pick up my phone and see everyone be like, like you guys in the chat. Like, oh my God, we saw you guys, which was so cool, so much fun. Such an honor to be invited. And I have to say it's so. funny and I don't think they'll mind me talking about this but obviously last week talked about Julianne's hosting and Alfonso and you know I see Alfonso make eye contact with us and I'm like you've never met right no I actually don't believe we have I see it make eye contact with us I'm
Starting point is 00:08:15 like there's no way Alfonso is looking at us Alfonso during commercial break walks right up to us and he's like hey you chicks be nice to us and he's laughing He shakes our hand. And he was so cool and so funny about it. He was like, listen, we get it. Good, bad. Anything you're talking about is good for us. It's good for the show.
Starting point is 00:08:35 And it was like funny banter. He was not mad. He was like so cool. And I said to him, I'm like, we're like the judges outside the show. You know, you got the judges in the show. We're the judges outside the show. He was like, you're right. You're right.
Starting point is 00:08:46 You know, we need people to commentate on the show. So it was so funny. So cool. Totally respect that. Obviously. you feel bad when you are critiquing a show and then you meet the people in real life. But I also don't want to sit here
Starting point is 00:09:00 and not give my honest opinion either. So it is cool that they're like accepting of all of that. We saw Mark, we saw Val, we saw Jenna. They were all so awesome. They weren't the only one, right? Well, Whitney brings Guillermo over and she goes, be nice to him. And Guillermo goes, please be nice.
Starting point is 00:09:23 to me, I'm trying. Genuinely, my heart melted to the floor. And I said, yeah, I'll be voting for him the rest of the season. They got us. They got us. Not even like, I don't think you can compare him to Andy anymore. Like, he's actually just, you'll get into the dances, but like, he's not bad. No, I think he's genuinely improving. I mean, let's just get into the dances from the top.
Starting point is 00:09:44 We're going to do a full breakdown of each couple like we did last week. We'll start off with Jenna Dewan and Val. They did a drive to Animal by Cats Eye, score 20. obviously these two are just so good and it's hot, it's sexy, it's meow, it's all of those things. And I think when you know that Jenna's such a good dancer, you just kind of expect it. So when someone you know is coming up that you don't know how much they've improved from the last week, it's a little bit more exciting. They were fantastic. I think they're so entertaining to watch and I will never get sick of watching them dance.
Starting point is 00:10:23 but I have to say like you, it's almost like you're watching a troop number. You're like, oh, yeah, we're watching a great performance right now to open the show. Moving on, Sierra and Branded, they did a tango to know broke boys. They got a score of 18. I love this pairing and I'm rooting for them so much. I feel like they're giving such sibling energy online in such a fun way. I think that there is improvement here.
Starting point is 00:10:49 but I think that Sierra is doing the steps, but not like executing the dance, if that makes sense, right? Like, she is hitting the steps, but I think it just has to just flow a little bit better. And I think each week it's going to move into that and it's improving. Like, I already think she improved from last week. And I think she has so much potential. And she is hitting her marks. I think it's just all the things that need to come together. But it's still weak, too.
Starting point is 00:11:19 this is just such a strong cast that I feel like the judgment is already harsh right off the bat because they are all so great and have so much potential already. Should we have you just give what you would give? As if you were a judge. I don't think I would be a good judgment of score number
Starting point is 00:11:37 towards... What's hard is I think as the show goes on, like as an episode is airing, you start to figure out the scoring more between like, okay, well, you're going to give, let's scroll down a little bit and compare a score here. Like, I think Ezra and Daniela were unbelievable. Same thing with Amber and Pasha, if you scroll down a little bit, I think they also got a 21.
Starting point is 00:12:10 I feel like they capped it at 21 tonight. Like I think maybe the judges got together and said, hey, we're not giving out of eats tonight. because I do think Ezra and Amber deserved at least an eight in there. And you scroll back up to the top, starting off with Jenna and Val, they also got a 21. I think that would have been lower after seeing those two dances. But I feel like they had a cap. Moving on to Tyler and Sharnham. Talked about it already.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Obviously, this was less salsa, more get the viral hit, get the votes, take the shirt off, do the thing. the crazy lifts. There's a lot of conversation about lifts in this show. There are certain dances, and I think this clarifies some of it, and Carrie Ann also wrote this on our Instagram. There are certain dance styles
Starting point is 00:12:59 that you can do lifts, and then there are certain no-noes. Like, you absolutely cannot do a lift. Salsa, you can do lifts. So I think people saw Tyler and Sharna do lifts and said, well, Carrie Ann's going to hate this. They're doing so many lifts. She wrote on her,
Starting point is 00:13:15 you're allowed to do lifts in some. It's some of the other ones you're not. So the lifts were allowed. They were incredible. Obviously shows his strength. He's an athlete. He's a very muscular guy. He could do these things.
Starting point is 00:13:27 And it's very cool. I think people just wanted a bit more salsa. And if you are going by like hardcore ballroom, you know, critique, that's what you're looking for. If you're watching and you want to see a hot guy take a shirt off and scream at your TV and watch something viral, then you loved this. If you don't know what off campus is, you might have been like, what the hell is this?
Starting point is 00:13:53 I'm cringing. But for the people that love it, we went nuts. So I thought that they were fantastic. I thought it was so fun. And I thought that it captured what the night was about, viral hits. Speaking of off campus, did you see those like videos that came out of them rapping? Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:09 And also videos of Belma and Ella wrapping up the show together. I saw some article that was like, he was like crying. They were crying. Yeah, they were hugging. It's so sweet. I think they were just focused on filming the show. Yeah. People want a drama. We're not buying into it. Uh, moving on, Julia Siles and Ezra. Tango to the Door by Teddy Swims. I thought this was really good and another one where I feel like I'm going to keep repeating myself with has potential. I think Julia has potential. I think that she messed up a bit, but the start I thought was really fantastic. But this is another one where I think with a scoring, you know, Tyler and Julia, do they deserve the same score?
Starting point is 00:14:57 It's different. You know, it's totally different dance. They are doing different. She looked pissed afterwards when they were interviewing her. I think that she's really good. And Ezra is an amazing choreographer as well, as well as moving on to Emma and Jackson. I thought the choreography here was really great. Fox Trot to that's so true. They got a score of 18. These are just like two happy-go-lucky people. Like when you, Jackson and Emma, I feel like, are just like two golden retriever puppies dancing around a ballroom. They're happy to be there. He's like pumped that Taylor Swift is releasing new music. He's flying to go do this banana bananas.
Starting point is 00:15:32 He's making videos about his teeth, which we did talk about, his big chompers last week. And I don't say big chompers as an insult. I just say that they are. He confirmed that they're fake. They're fake veneers. He got a softball straight to his mouth and had to get new teeth. It happens. My husband has fake tomper.
Starting point is 00:15:47 teeth. I'm not against fake teeth. They're just, he's got big smile. It's big choppers. I loved the mint coloring costumes on these two. And Emma, I say it every week. I'm so obsessed with her as a person. I really am. And so I just root hard for her, but they really are just like too happy, go lucky people. They're making their videos. They're having fun. I guess I don't know. I think I was just expecting him to be like a phenomenal dancer because of Savannah Bananas, forgetting that he's a baseball player, not a dancer. Yeah, I think people do forget that. Like, he was a baseball player his whole life and then like in the last few years,
Starting point is 00:16:27 they just started this thing. Right. Because I'm watching and I'm like, oh, I, you know, I expect him to be like, like Harry Schum Jr. But I'm forgetting he's a baseball player. Yeah. But I think, I think he has, he's going to get there. I feel like it might be
Starting point is 00:16:44 Robert Irwin-esque where you really see him shine towards the end of the season. But Robert Irwin, I feel like out of the gate last year, he had that dance and people were like that was incredible. He was, but I feel like even
Starting point is 00:16:55 more towards the end of the season, he really, you saw the improvement, which I think is an important part of this show is when you see, you go back and you watch a week three dance compared to a week seven dance and you're like, holy shit, the difference in those dances.
Starting point is 00:17:10 and that's where you like win people over. Life is all about choices, like deciding what new social trends to try out, which celebrity gossip to believe or not, or if that hot new show is worth a stream or skipping it. Talk to a State Farm agent today to learn how you can choose to bundle and save with the personal price plan. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there. Starting point is 00:17:52 Coverage options are selected by the customer. Availability, amount of discounts and savings, and eligibility vary by state. Create an affordable price just for you with the State Farm personal price plan. Moving on to Giata and Allen. They did a salsa to Bella Chow and they got a 12. Bella Chow indeed because she got sent home. This was uncomfortable. I have to be honest.
Starting point is 00:18:24 Being in the ballroom for this one and immediately, Carrie Ann gives shaky as her one word. Mia Monet looked at each other and he said, shaky? Every dance we've gotten so far, you got one word she gives shaky, which she was giving. I have no problem with Carrie Ann being a straight up judge and completely honest. Like, we're not watching this show to get fluff the entire time.
Starting point is 00:18:50 Like, we want general feedback. By the way, what was your opinion on like the whole one word thing? Like, they can't figure out a way to have the judges all be able to speak. I don't like it because if Len was still around, you're going to tell Len Goodman to give one word. You know what I mean? Like they're not, I don't like the one word thing. There was a lot of online. I saw a lot of like, we couldn't cut Julian down.
Starting point is 00:19:11 We had to cut out the judges. Yeah, I think it's unfair. I, it doesn't make much sense because. And then you're not getting the feedback. Exactly. Because how are they? And then you see like what Bruno did to Fibbila, Connor Wood. He's like, come here.
Starting point is 00:19:25 And he tried, you know, was telling him, I don't know what he was saying, but some more, you know, critique. How are they supposed to get any feedback if you're cutting them off for one word? It doesn't make much sense. They have to figure that out. He'll build off of shaky. And I really think we could have more. I love the troupe, but I think we could have more troop dances towards the end of the season when we have more time. When they're at the beginning, they need that judgment feedback.
Starting point is 00:19:51 I'm sure they get it off camera, but still, I'm not a fan of the one-word thing. But here, she gives Shaky. And Giata obviously was shaken up by that. And then Julianne hits her with a... So Carian gave Shaky as her one word. How does that make you feel? It's like, obviously not good. Julian, obviously she's not feeling good about this.
Starting point is 00:20:15 And you saw in the package, I think everybody's package was pretty cookie cutter for the most part. But in the package with Giata and Allen, you can see there was like some tension, you know, which I like to see because it's not all sunshine and rainbows in that ballroom practice. My God, I can only imagine, I'd be like, shut the fuck up. I'm doing it. Like to fight. Oh, God, I kind of would love that. just like dreaming about that.
Starting point is 00:20:42 Like being in a practice room, fighting with Alan, being like, you fucking scumbag, I'm doing it. And then Alan's like, get it together. You're not doing it right. And I'm like stomping my feet.
Starting point is 00:20:54 Oh my God. Dream of that. Just attention. And then you get out there and you crush it. And then all of a sudden you guys are besties again. That would be amazing. Unless you don't. Unless you don't.
Starting point is 00:21:03 But if you're fighting in the practice and you hate each other. And then you come out at the end and you're like, that doesn't seem healthy. but for this show this isn't a relationship no no but you don't I feel like you have banned I'm talking about a safe space to yell at each other yeah but also respect and come together I feel like everything that I see on the show it's like each of them are going to take the like try to put the blame on themselves like the celebrities are going to be like I'm so sorry I fucked up and they're going to be like no no like it was on me yeah that's how I would want my partner to yell at me but then allow me to yell at him back. But, but I'll take his criticism, but not in a way where I'm like, stop yelling at me, but more just like, oh my God, shut the fuck up. I guess that does mean stop yelling at me. But just let me get my feelings out, you know, just a good rapport. I don't think Gianna and Alan
Starting point is 00:21:57 had that. I don't think Gianna, I don't think Gianna wants to be told, you know, bitch, you're not doing it right. I would like to hear that. And so, this was kind of, this was sad. And I now I see a lot of discourse between an older woman on the show versus an older man, where we cater to an older man and like, aw, he's so cute. Whereas like Giata, we're like... How old is she got? She doesn't seem old to me. Giazza's older than Guillermo. What? Yes. I thought she was like 40. No, so Giazza is older than Guillermo. And I think, is she older than Andy maybe? I've just been seeing people talk about this. And she's 56. Yeah, and Guillermo is...
Starting point is 00:22:44 He's 55. And then how old is Andy? Andy's 60 maybe? Andy is 59. Okay, so Giata is a similar age to them. But the way that people and the difference between, I guess, a woman and a man, where we go, you know, the man, and then with the woman, we're like, you're bad, you're gone. Yeah, I would say specific with Guillermo, it's hard to compete with that little of, like, cuteness.
Starting point is 00:23:07 Right. It is specific... Listen, like, she's not the female version of Guillermo. Yeah, I think that... They're just different people. Guillermo has more charisma than Andy. Oh, easily. And, you know, so, like, I just think it's the passion, he's so cute.
Starting point is 00:23:28 I wasn't really getting that sort of passion really from Giata, but I understand what people are saying with sort of making grown men look like babies when they're not like we got to treat them like grown men but Guillermo is just really fucking cute so it's really hard Did you see the video that Jimmy Kimmel live posted the hot dog of him rolling in the hot time?
Starting point is 00:23:51 Oh my God it's so good He'd be hard to compete with in terms of like having a whole talk show behind it Right and I tried his salsa yesterday Guillermo salsa fire! He has a salt I didn't even know that He hasn't done a salsa yet right for the dance Or was this one?
Starting point is 00:24:09 No. No, no. No, he didn't. No, I don't think he did. I don't think he did. We'll check that. But I do kind of wish that they all did the same dance each week. I think it would be easier to judge the same style of dance. No, last week he did a cha-cha.
Starting point is 00:24:26 Okay, so he has Guillermo salsa. It's so good. Oh, they're going to incorporate that. Yeah, yeah, I know for sure. If they make it to the salsa. So, yeah, sadly. Giazza went, but when we get down to the bottom three, I'll say I wasn't so sad because it was between, you know, Giazza, Garamo and Tyler, which we talked about this last week. I believe they put the actual bottom two and then they throw a random third in there. Like I don't, because they always say it's not the actual bottom three. So I think that if I had to guess it would be Tyler and Giato or the actual bottom two. You think so? I don't think you, you think Germos being in the bottom three? People fucking love him. also the, it's the second week now that he's been in the bottom three. But maybe they're just like,
Starting point is 00:25:10 like, counterbound like he is the worst dancer, I think, like probably. Uh, so they're like, he's an easy one where like people would be like, I guess, yeah. Right, right. It's, it's confusing because they do say it's not the actual bottom three. If anything, though, that's how make people like vote even harder for him because they're like, we can't have him. Right. In the bottom three again. Exactly. I don't know. They say it's not actually, but who knows. Moving on to Connor Wood and Riley, they did a. tango to 12 to 12 by Somba. They got a score 15.
Starting point is 00:25:40 Here's the thing. Actually seeing this dance in real life, sadly, he did mess up a lot. Did he? Yes. And sometimes I think you can't catch it on TV, but I also think there's things in person you don't catch that you do catch on TV. So it's a little bit of both. There were a couple of passes he messed up.
Starting point is 00:26:04 there's a lot of discussion like how can they give him this score there were a couple What were the messups like foot? Like kind of just like stumbling over the footwork and you know you can kind I think at one point you could see Riley like tell him something like during the dance
Starting point is 00:26:24 I'm watching this is my first time watching it on TV so right when he gets right over here he messes up and you see it's like a little dark. It was right around there. He messed up and he messes up again. And you could see the judge's reactions very clearly when you're there in person. And you could see them telling them like, slow down, slow down. Like more like critique. I mean, they can't hear them. But so. People are talking about this ending a lot here. Yeah, I think that they just, I think that they're close friends. I'm not going to start like, you know, shipping them together. But I think that they have a
Starting point is 00:27:11 great partnership. And he was so shaken up after he was, he was like, I'm going to throw up. He's very funny. So like his reaction after. And, or I think it was in the beginning, actually, because it was when Jenna went, he was standing up there and went to go give Jenna a hug. And she just, he put his arms out. And he just totally went right past her, right past him and and hug the other Jenna instead. And he commented, like, my only mistake of the night, which was very funny. But he has such a strong fan base. A mistake like that isn't going to get him sent home.
Starting point is 00:27:49 But need to be careful of that. And I understand the scoring. And the judges even said that they're like, the score is because of the mistake. Ezra and Daniela did a cha-cha to low, 21. I was blown away by this. Full body chills. Holy shit. This was incredible.
Starting point is 00:28:07 This to me deserved all eights. Blown away! I couldn't believe what I was watching. Daniela, first off, is an amazing choreographer. Just so good. But Ezra just has that natural danceability that you were just amazed at what he's doing. Like, genuinely, I cannot put into words how incredible and moving and inspiring it is to watch him dance
Starting point is 00:28:35 and crush these dances. It's not like, it's like, oh, he's doing a good job. No, no, no. He is fucking crushing it. And you are so captivated by them. The movements, the way, the facial expressions, his whole body is into it. And, you know, they're taking up the entire dance floor. I just was blown away.
Starting point is 00:29:00 If this was not my favorite of the night, next was Amber and Pasha was my favorite. Like these, it's going home to that household, maybe, the two of them, between Danielle and Pasha, because they're crushing it. Next up was Tatiana Ali and Jan Foxchot to what was I made for. They got to score 18. This was a beautiful dance. This was really touching. I thought it was a much improved dance from last week. And really, I think touching was the word for it.
Starting point is 00:29:32 The song is obviously a tearjerker and the meaning behind it. And, you know, Tatiana talking about what she was dancing for and what this song meant to her was so beautiful. And Jan, he is a laugh a minute. I eat this guy up. I mean, if you watch him on social media, he is so funny. And I just feel like it's underrated. Like, people aren't talking about Yon enough how funny he is. Amber and Pasha, I've mentioned them like three times now.
Starting point is 00:29:59 But tango to all the things she said by Harrison. Harrison was there live, which was an amazing collaboration. They got a score of 21. This dance also deserved all eights, in my opinion, maybe even higher. Like, blown away, Amber talked about how important this song and heat of rivalry was for her, you know, coming out and the story of, you know, losing partnerships, being ashamed of that. How is she going to get through and how much this meant for her?
Starting point is 00:30:27 So the story on top of the viral hit, I thought that this was just magic. This is one of the biggest things of the year, all the things she said. I don't know how she didn't get distracted halfway through the dance thinking about Ilya and the club, the whole thing. But just unbelievable. Blown away. Guillermo and Whitney Pascadoblet, where have you been by Rihanna? 12.
Starting point is 00:30:56 Rihanna's his favorite artist. She's sexy. She's smart. Rihanna approved her actual version for Geremo. So good. And I really thought he improved. Like, I don't think that this was another, you know, there are parts where he's... There are.
Starting point is 00:31:11 There are. And we have to be quite honest about them. And that's why they had the backup dancers. Hold them up. And then Carrie Ann's got to be like, because it's a knee walk for seniors. And she's like, me. Oh, yeah. That was fucking... It's just some things don't need to be said.
Starting point is 00:31:26 And you could tell Whitney's looking at her like... Yeah, what? Really? You had to say that? Obviously, Guillermo's going to need a little fucking help. By the way, like, I don't think most of the other guys could do a knee walk like Val. You know? Like, what are we talking about? He's Savile's skating across the floor. Like, his knees are lubed up, okay? Like, Guillermo needs a little,
Starting point is 00:31:44 maybe we had to put salsa on his knees to get him across the floor. Like, it's, he did what he had to do. And yeah, are there multiple seconds of the dance where he's not dancing? Yes. But I really think he improved from last week, and I really like how seriously he's taking it.
Starting point is 00:32:00 And the judges said it. It was less stick more, I am taking this seriously. When he said he was going to do the face that his wife gives him, I lost it. You sent me a clip of us in the crowd and you were like,
Starting point is 00:32:13 why are you laughing? I'm like, fuck. Yeah, because right after a pan... It was like a standing ovation right after they went and I saw a camera shot and you just see you laughing in the side. Someone messaged me being like, tell Rie and friend that we saw them
Starting point is 00:32:27 not stand up for, to give him a standing ovation. We did give him a standing ovation. They caught us when we sat back down, to be clear. I'm loving him. I don't know what else to say. I'm loving him. Andy Richter walked so Gierma could run. Yes.
Starting point is 00:32:45 Or he walked so Giermo could be carried on the floor in a knee walk. But Gieramo, like, yeah, last night it wasn't like a joke. But I think that's the most endearing thing about him is that, like, you can tell he's given in his all. He is. And on top of that, you got Whitney who's pregnant. So, like, the combination of the two, you got a pregnant Whitney bossing Gierremo around being like, listen, you got to take this seriously is incredible. And when she
Starting point is 00:33:12 sat back, she was like, you got two pregnant people on the couch. I mean, she was spinning on the floor. I was impressed. I kind of crossed my mind of like, is the baby just like, whoa. Mommy, this is fun. The baby's going to be a great dancer because it's just already doing the dances.
Starting point is 00:33:34 Or like in order for the baby to be calm, she's going to have to dance with the baby in her arms. They got a 12, all fours. They were excited about the score. It was improvement from last week. Moving on, Taylor and Britt, chacha out of Cape by the Ocean, 15. Unfortunately for me,
Starting point is 00:33:52 he is becoming forgettable. And maybe that's just because I'm not like a big Hanson fan. I think Britt is just such an amazing dancer that it shouldn't be forgettable, but for some reason, and people are going to, the Hanson fans are going to come for me. He's just a little bit forgettable for me. You know, I'm not blown away, but I'm not thinking he's bad either, you know?
Starting point is 00:34:22 Moving on, Harrison, Harry Schum Jr. and Jenna Johnson, Viennese Waltz to Iris, 18. This was a drop from last week for me. I thought they started off strong, really, really strong last week. This one, a little less. you can tell that Harry's having a hard time holding his freestyle hip hop back. Like, he's looking at the camera and you could see he's like, you know, doing the robotics, the hip hop a little bit. He's still amazing and he's still going to get better every week. I don't think that this specific style was made for him because I think you could really see
Starting point is 00:35:05 the, like right here, like I think you could see the hip hop come in. But they're still fabulous, you know? There's not much, there's, they're still so good. It's just not, I think last week was stronger. The scream took people by surprise. But, you know, they're entertainers. Was that loud? He didn't actually scream.
Starting point is 00:35:27 I thought I saw a clip where you could hear him scream. Like, I swear like I saw it and it was like, you could hear him. I feel like I'm having, like, memory loss here where I'm like, I don't remember. I feel like I would have been more taken aback if I heard him genuinely scream really loud. Maybe it just wasn't very loud. Maybe he did, but like to us in the audience because we're hearing everything. We're hearing the music really loud. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:35:53 Anyways. Ended with Mora and Mark. Mora was shitting her pants before this dance started. Like freaking out, handshaking. Mark, phenomenal coach. he's like breathe you got this I saw a video of this you can tell Mora didn't want to hear
Starting point is 00:36:14 herself talk in the package she was covering her ears I totally get that I understand when you're about to go on you don't want to hear and watch yourself practice for the week but she got out there and she is just a divine dancer I feel like they did the cha-cha
Starting point is 00:36:34 to September they got a score of 19 I think it was slowed down a bit I think that Mora is a really great ballroom dancer. I think maybe Latin styles might be a little bit harder for her, but I think her lines are spectacular. And I think that she is just going to get better and better. And Mark as a teacher, you can just tell they're so locked in.
Starting point is 00:36:58 Einfeld's so bad how nervous she was. I didn't see anybody else freaking out in the way that she was freaking out. But I think it's because she had such a strong start last week that she didn't want to lose it this week because obviously everyone was raiding about her dance for week one and you never want to go down. You only want to go up. Well, at least she had her friends there to support her.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Yeah, at least she had us for moral support when she looked over with the audience and she took a breath and just looked at us and she was okay. She was able to get out there and crush it. Yeah, I mean, was it as good as last week, I think? No, I thought last week was better, but I still think it was very good.
Starting point is 00:37:38 And she's a very clean dancer. Like she's doing the technique. And I think that is what Mark is really good at, is getting the dancer to do the correct technique. They are... Mark is a great coach. You know what I was rewatching recently? Because it came up, I think, whatever.
Starting point is 00:37:56 But when he was telling me how to film... And I was like rewatching, even the way that he was telling me, like, how to film a TikTok. I'm like, yeah, he's a good coach. And some people have that. coaching ability and some people don't. You can't. Some people, you could be a great dancer and not be a good coach. You have to have a certain level of patience to be a great coach, understanding,
Starting point is 00:38:16 chemistry, all the things. And I felt like she was so nervous that there was maybe energy here that she could have had more of, but was more of, but just was so nervous, but she still crushed it. And gosh, I just, I love them. And I love Mark. He's such a sweet. Lee Hart. He really is. This season is really going to be a tough one. I'm very nervous for weeks to come. We want our guy Tyler to make it through. That's a problem is there's so many people to root for. And there's just so many strong fan bases that you don't even really know. Like I know that people, they go hard for Hanson. They do. And maybe we don't understand it. But yeah, like, he has a strong fan base. And the same thing for, you know, Julia Stiles, who we are very big fans of. And
Starting point is 00:39:06 and they see these actresses Tatiana Ali that bring nostalgia and they want them to stick around and they root for them. I mean, think about it. Alfonso won the show and now he's the host and that's like nostalgia based. And he actually was, if you go back and watch Alfonso's dances, spectacular. I just remember a scene when he did the Carlton, yeah. But besides that, he was just genuinely so good. It is funny how like the people, a lot of the people who win just like never, like they're just like on the show. Yeah, they never leave. You can't get rid of them after. You're just like, you not only win the Mirable, you get a job, too.
Starting point is 00:39:42 Yeah. Hey, why not? You stick in the family. But yeah, that was the full Dancing with the Stars recap. It was so cool to be there. Such an honor. The closest we've ever been, front row to the stage. Last year, in the rafters, this year, front row. Thanks to Tyler and Tate. And they are just, they are just so awesome. and, you know, I'm just so rooting, rooting for him, and I'm rooting for many others as well. I mean, it's going to be so hard.
Starting point is 00:40:11 But my top of the leaderboard, if I have to be completely honest, Ezra Freck, Amber Glenn, Mora. We know the obvious with Harry and Jenna. Like, that just goes without saying. And so many, so many more. I mean, Julia Stiles as well. Like, I can name the whole cast. I'm just rooting for everybody.
Starting point is 00:40:35 I mean, Sierra, I want to keep seeing Sierra do better and better each week. And I'm excited. It's a tough season. It's filled with so many great people. And you could tell how hard they're all working. So it's sad to see them go. Bella chow to Giata are pies on. Moving on from Dancing with the Stars, Taylor Swift News.
Starting point is 00:40:59 We got big Taylor Swift News. originally she was teasing a single called Patient Zero said that would be out the 25th. But now we're getting the full encore. We're getting the life of a show girl. Oncore, the encore, four new songs. We're getting Patient Zero. Cleveland, exclamation point. Pink clouding and Babylon. It is so fucking funny that there's just a song Cleveland. Like the people of Cleveland, they're hyped. And you know what? The people of Cleveland, they've been yelling at us for years to come to Cleveland. Like, they're like, why are you ignoring us?
Starting point is 00:41:34 I don't know why. I don't know why. Because we've gone to Cincinnati and Columbus. And I think they're like, this is rude. You've gone to the other seas of Ohio. Why not Cleveland? So maybe next time we'll be there. And now with this song, I mean, we had Florida with an explanation point.
Starting point is 00:41:48 Now we got Cleveland with explanation point. And we can only expect to hear great things because obviously she loves Cleveland. You know? I think they got that lake house there now. I believe that was reported, which looks insane. And then we're getting Patient Zero, Pink Clouding, Babylon, four extra songs. She had a post, if we could bring it up, where this was revealed. So originally, it's crazy because I wonder what the marketing idea was behind this,
Starting point is 00:42:15 because originally it was like, okay, you're getting the single on September 25th, right? Which September 25th is the Friday? If we can confirm that. But now the whole on Khor is on Friday. She just loves to announce things. So I don't know why we got the countdown to the single. Tomorrow there will be a countdown for the finals and then the merch. We do know that the vinyl's a merch are probably coming.
Starting point is 00:42:37 But I was confused by the countdown to the single to then just have four extra songs, which is awesome. I feel like we should have just got that announcement right off the back. My first thought was, I didn't know Olivia Rodriguez was releasing an album on Friday. Is she? No, I'm just saying that would be like, that would be like why she's putting this out right now. genuinely like my heart is shot. I thought. No fucking way.
Starting point is 00:42:58 I thought I was living under a rock. No, no, no. Oh my God. Okay, so Taylor wrote about a year ago. You guys did a truly unfathomal thing. Something that completely blew my mind. You gave the life of a showgirl the biggest first week for an album of history. I got to be honest.
Starting point is 00:43:12 I don't believe that she was totally shocked. I mean, she's the biggest artist on the planet. But besides the point, I took a trip to Sweden to celebrate with Max and Shelbach, my two collaborators on this album. Really, we just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in. But there was a studio there, and we did what we did. when we feel anything at all, we wrote more songs. I hope you love them because they were born out of pure gratitude for your exuberance
Starting point is 00:43:32 for an celebration of the album. The Life of a Showgirl, The Encore, including four new songs out Friday, available pre-order. This is awesome. I love The Life of a Showgirl. I've been listening to it more and more recently. It did come out like about a year ago and it was an end of the summer album. I really do love this album, so I'm so excited for these four songs. I've had Father Figure and Elizabeth Taylor on rotation lately.
Starting point is 00:43:54 well actually honestly a ton of them so I am so excited for this and not just to I think that people when they saw Patient Zero single they think okay new album so maybe we needed the clarification let's get the encore to the life of showgirl patient zero is not going to be a new era it's not going to be a new album it's just an encore of the life of a show girl so that's really exciting although I think people were like hey but maybe after this we get some some re-recordings of the final two, you know, the debut and reputation. I know that when she announced that she got her master's back and completely owned everything, she did say, like, if people want me to re-record those, I still will.
Starting point is 00:44:36 And people are waiting for them. So we'll see. But this is so exciting, so fun, four new songs. How can we not be excited about this? And, you know, I think it's one of those albums to me that I... This collector edition CDs. These pictures are gorgeous. I think that
Starting point is 00:44:55 I loved the album upon initial listening I think there were people that didn't but I think it's one of those that grows where you go back and listen you go you know what this album was really good and these songs grew on me so we'll see what happens
Starting point is 00:45:07 with these four songs super exciting and these pictures are stunning that she has up on her site and I know she posted one of them with the halter top or this happened I guess she's saying the recordings
Starting point is 00:45:18 happened before her wedding because I was going to say would there be any references but I guess this couldn't have. Right. I think that they wrote these songs before because it was in celebration. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:28 Took a trip to Sweden. I did start. I'm like, oh, we're never going to get these pictures. Yes, you are. I'm just like, I've put it out of my brain now. It'll be her next album. I'm really hoping that we see something. I mean, I know they want to enjoy it probably
Starting point is 00:45:43 without any negative criticism, which I totally understand. Like, it's the, like, one of the best days of your life. You're so freaking happy. The joy. the bliss. You don't want negativity surrounding it. So I get like keeping that to yourself and keeping it personal and close to your chest. But at the same time, they shared the engagement pictures. More and more people are like, I just have an interview of Tom Cruise talking about it. Like,
Starting point is 00:46:05 openly more talking about the wedding. And he was like, you guys are a beautiful couple. And they are. I feel like everyone around them knows it and can feel their love. So we just want to see the pictures. We want to see the pictures. Show us the wedding pictures. We will remain calm. I can only speak for myself. I don't know how other people... I hate it. I wouldn't... I don't hate anybody's wedding pictures. I think it's everybody has their own taste when it comes to weddings. And the way that weddings get critiqued, I could look at a picture and go, yeah, I wouldn't pick that dress, but that's what she loved and she felt in the moment. And that, you know, that's what they love as a couple. So I don't, I've never, I hate that wedding dress. I hate that. You know, that's,
Starting point is 00:46:48 weddings are personal. Okay, Noah? I wouldn't know. But I am very excited for this, and it should be fun, and we're getting it soon. Came back to back. I am still stuck on the why did we announce the single to then just get the four songs? Yeah, I'm also confused. I was like, once you did the countdown yesterday for the single, I thought that was going to be like a nothing countdown. Like a merged countdown or a final camera.
Starting point is 00:47:15 Yeah, I totally thought it was going to be a single. Okay. And then today it's like, yeah, well, what is this picture for then? Like the single picture. Like, if you're just releasing the album, where does this picture go? There's always a hidden reason to why she does anything. So there must be, like, there's announcements soon after this. I don't think this is like, here's the encore of the life of a show girl.
Starting point is 00:47:36 Bye, I'm disappearing. Like, I think it's new album soon after. Because there were rumors that she was in the studio cooking something up. So we shall see. Moving on, just want to do why, you know, not to do this while we're on the topic of Taylor's Mary Beth Barone and Joe Alwyn. We thought Joe Alwyn was dating Sarah Pigeon and Mary Beth Barone at the same time. And we were like, okay, we're bringing back two-time and dating in the public, whatever.
Starting point is 00:48:01 Nope, not the case. Just some good old-fashioned PR. Mary Beth is starring and wrote. Still, we met a rom-com with Joe Alwyn, produced by Leanham Dunham and others. This is some great PR. And it was so funny because Benny Drama then commented and was like, now everyone could stop texting me. And everyone was commenting on her post like, You're a genius. I don't know if there's anyone more booked and busy right now than Mary Beth Barrett.
Starting point is 00:48:31 There are so many projects in the works. She's so funny and talented. I mean, she just deserves it. Her and Benny both. And they're just absolutely crushing it between the podcast and all of the new projects they have going. And now, like, posting pictures from the dinner with Joe Allens. It's like, duh, duh. I still want to know why they were riding the beast. I want to know what that has to do with the movie. I don't know if that's like in the movie. They go ride the beast. They get splash of water and they're disgusted and they get like a disease. Maybe that's part of the movie. But besides that, this is just some great marketing. So shout out to Mary Beth. And that wraps up today's topics and we're going to get into a great interview with the one and only Roblo.

Starting point is 00:51:21 special guests who I think needs no introduction. The one and only Rob Loe. Welcome to the show. Thanks. Thanks for having me. We are so excited. Unfortunately, my co-host is not here with me today. So you just got me. I'm happy to have you.
Starting point is 00:51:35 Yeah, this is happy. It's just a one-on-one. I'm happy. Very serious interview. I know. I'm ready. Don't you worry about it. So we're talking about the musical.
Starting point is 00:51:43 It's in theaters now. Yes. So fun. So funny. It's sort of like a dark comedy. Tell us a little bit about, you know, your role as a principle. So, I mean, when I got this script, I was like, you have to be kidding me that
Starting point is 00:52:00 no one's going to make this movie. It is so audacious, politically incorrect, and breathtaking in that way that I was like, oh, I'm definitely, I mean, it's low budget. It's a little tiny independent movie, but it is so good. And people have embraced it. it in a way that makes me so happy and that it's out there having a life in the theaters is it's amazing. Have you like breathtaking comedy?
Starting point is 00:52:30 This is for you. Exactly. And I think that's what I loved about it too because it's almost like pushing that line that you're kind of craving these days in a way that feels, you know, respectful and we can laugh at it and we can enjoy dark comedy. Yeah. It's funny. The gatekeepers are still nervous because this movie.
Starting point is 00:52:50 because this movie went to Sundance, played huge, huge, and then did not sell. Yeah. Because the gatekeepers are still very, very, very nervous, but the public wants this. They want chances. Yeah. They want something that's fresh and different.
Starting point is 00:53:08 And that this has made it out into the world is kind of a miracle. It's in, I think, 300 theaters. So it's definitely out there. But it's not like it's a Marvel movie. It's the kind of movie that I grew up loving. this little cult indie thing. And it definitely is connecting with people
Starting point is 00:53:28 because I think people are tired of safe stuff. Yeah, I agree with that. I like what you said about, you know, people being nervous, I guess industry being nervous, but the public, we want it. We all want it. We know what's right and what's wrong, but we also want to laugh as well.
Starting point is 00:53:42 That's right. So is that how you're choosing your roles these days? Like, you know, you see a script like this. You're like, I want to be a part of it because I'm sure you get a ton of it. thrown at you and it's hard to decide which roles you want to take. When it's comedy, it's a little easier in that if it makes me laugh, that's kind of the litmus test, right? And but everybody's taste in comedy is different. I'm drawn to big,
Starting point is 00:54:09 crazy swings. Like, you know, Austin Powers, when you, when you, it's hard to imagine because it's become such a part of people's lives. Which I grew up on. And it's been around for it. But like the notion, yeah, so it's a movie about an English guy with bad teeth who's a spy who really isn't. You're like, wait, what? But it worked. But it was a big swing, right?
Starting point is 00:54:35 It was an idea. The musical is the same. It's an idea that's a very big swing. So they don't come around often. But when they do, at least you know them when you read them. And dramas are a little bit harder to choose. But at the end of the day, it's do I think I can bring something unique? Like, can I, that's something to say, something to offer, or could anybody do it?
Starting point is 00:55:06 You know, that's kind of how I look at it. Yeah. How do you ignore the critics when it comes to a movie like this? You know, like you said, it did huge at Sundance, but then nobody's selling it. Yeah. But you believe in it. I mean, there are, there are so many stories like that. I mean, you know, people didn't want to make the West Wing.
Starting point is 00:55:26 It came up 27 years ago today, by the way. Wow. Somebody just told me. That's huge. Today, 27 years ago. 27 years ago today. And your game show is back tonight. And the floor is back tonight.
Starting point is 00:55:38 Big day for you. And you're on chicks in the office. That's really what's important. That's really the big thing today. All roads have led to this moment. Yes. Between us. Yes, for sure.
Starting point is 00:55:48 Yeah. I want to ask you about what it's like now promoting things in a way that, you know, we're sitting on a podcast together. In the beginning of your career, how did you promote a movie? Oh, my God. It is so incredibly different. When I started, they didn't even have press junkets. So you went to the cities.
Starting point is 00:56:11 You did a tour, a literal press tour. So I remember, I think on class. was the first one that I did. And Andrew McCarthy and I went on a road tour. And we did like, I want to say, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas. And we'd roll up and like do like the local morning show. So you'd be on like, you know, Willie and Philly.
Starting point is 00:56:42 And, you know, and like they'd be like cooking an omelet. And then you would come on and talk about your. And then the studios realized it was better to just have the press come to you. And then you do a junket. You go to a hotel and you would just round robin. And then that was a thing. And now that's kind of gone. And now it's this, which I, this is my favorite, favorite iteration.
Starting point is 00:57:05 Really? Yeah. Oh, for sure. Because we have a real conversation. There's not somebody, you know, it's not, it's not produced. Yeah. And so I love it because it's a real opportunity. to have a real conversation.
Starting point is 00:57:19 And if you're one of those, it's probably hard for actors who don't want to talk. Yeah. Or KG. My life's an open book. I've written two of them about my life. So I'm happy to talk real and authentically to people. And that's hard to do when you're on segments that are two and three minutes long.
Starting point is 00:57:41 For sure. And that's what makes someone like you an amazing guest because like you said, you are an open book. You're willing to talk. I do understand when actors get on a podcast and they only want to talk about their project, which they're promoting, which we always do. But then you try to dig a little deeper and you don't get there. I know.
Starting point is 00:57:58 And then you feel like you're doing a bad job. So it's a little bit of back and forth, a little bit of give and take, which is really so fun. And the respect for podcasts now, I think, is amazing because we get so many great interviews. You bring up Andrew McCarthy, who, you know, made brats back in 2020. which I absolutely loved. And I feel like people wanted more from you. They wanted more stories. You talk about the brat pack meeting the rat pack.
Starting point is 00:58:28 And, you know, a crazy night at Sammy Davis Jr.'s house. You know, you went to Spago, which I went to recently. Very good. Yeah. It was a totally different, different location, different, different. The fact that it survived at all is amazing. But Spago, 1985, is very different than 2026. Yeah, I'm sure.
Starting point is 00:58:46 I'm sure. It was very low key. But can you bring us behind the scenes more of that? I feel like after that documentary came out, people were like, I want just a documentary on this one night. Well, I'm not going to be able to offer you a documentary on just that one night. But it hasn't been officially announced, but I believe November 24th Netflix is going to release a documentary on my life. Wow. Are they going to tell us to cut this after? They probably have.
Starting point is 00:59:16 but you asked and and so a lot of that stuff that people you know on the brat pack documentary obviously you know i'm i'm one of seven people or whatever so um all of that stuff will be talked about and uh because it was i was i was very lucky to be to live in a time in the in the 80s in the late 70s, into the early 80s, into the very beginning of the 90s and then kind of over, where it was just an incredible time. It was an incredible time to be in the business. It was an incredible time to make movies. It was an incredible time to party.
Starting point is 00:59:59 It was an incredible time to be single. I wouldn't trade it for anything. In the totality of humanity, if I could have lived in any time, that would have been it. That's awesome. I mean, I feel like when people ask about, which time you want to live back. Like for us, you know, it's like, oh, the 80s. It is, right?
Starting point is 01:00:18 That's what you dream about. Like, it just seems so cool. Can I tell you, it's better than you dream. It was better than you dream. Really? Because no social media. No social media. No cell phone cameras.
Starting point is 01:00:30 Like the sort of intrigue of like if you were going to go on, we'll meet at the club at 11 and then you didn't know maybe they weren't going to be there. Maybe they were. And you couldn't say, hey, where are you just didn't know where anybody was. and it was like it was just the intrigue of it. It was beautiful. Just like a genuine run in. Like you run into your friend at the club and then you have a crazy night that you weren't expecting to have.
Starting point is 01:00:53 Yeah. So at that time you were like being this famous is awesome. It was a good time. I wouldn't, I look at, you know, young, young famous movie stars today and they're definitely not, they're definitely not having. I don't think it's fun for them. Mm-mm. I think it's a burden. Because there's so many eyes.
Starting point is 01:01:12 on them all the time. And people are waiting for somebody to mess up. But I feel like you can mess up and still be a great actor, still respected, still have so much fun. Like it's just a human experience. Particularly if it's happening to you in your early 20s, like it was for me, you know, I mean, that's when you're supposed to mess up. Right. I mean, we hope we're messing up in our 20s, so we're not doing it when, you know, when we're doing it later in, we don't want to do it later in life. I always have a ton of empathy for people who have eyes on them at that age because, you know, you're figuring it out for sure. Right. And I mean, the cast of characters you were surrounded by, do you look back on those movies and think, you know, the casting directors who picked out these people?
Starting point is 01:02:01 Like, they had such talent to seek out that talent. So Fred Ruse is a producer. He is not a casting agent, but he cast. every one of Francis Ford Coppola and George Lucas's movie. Fred Roos discovered everybody in The Outsiders. Wow. He discovered everybody in The Godfather. He discovered everybody in American graffiti.
Starting point is 01:02:25 So that is De Niro Pacino, Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise, me. I mean, Robert did he goes on and on and on and on. So when we talk about I was I was think about Fred Ruse and his eye. But there are great casting directors out there. And the ability to find young actors and actresses is a real, real, real talent. How do you and so many others that you name keep that longevity in your career? Because there are many that, you know, do a great film. You look back and go, where did they go?
Starting point is 01:03:03 But you have had such a tremendous career. They haven't found me out yet. Well, I think you've been an open book like, said. I feel like we know a lot about you. What's your secret to keeping that? First of all, I still love doing it. That's important. Right? Yeah. And I am always curious and game. And I'm not, I've never been totally caught up in what other people are going to think about my career choices. I'm worried about what the audience will think, obviously. I mean, you want people to love it. You want people to love it, right? But even that at the end of the day, you just got to do what's
Starting point is 01:03:48 right and then and then you have to let go of it. But I have noticed that actors can be susceptible to, oh, my God, I just did a big comedy. I can't do another comedy or, oh, I just did a big box office thing. I better do something. They get caught up in their head. And I have just really followed what interests me. And sometimes it works out. And sometimes it doesn't. But I do think that helps for longevity.
Starting point is 01:04:18 Yeah, because you kind of cover all over the map. You can go from West Wing to Parks and Rec. Well, the real thing is like the floor. Like there's a world in which you would never do a game show. Like, how can you be a serious actor if you do a game? I don't care. Like I know I love trivia. I know game shows are popular.
Starting point is 01:04:40 People love them. I loved the game of the floor. I love the game. It's so addicting. And, you know, I don't really, it doesn't affect me. I can still do a movie like the musical or I'm still going to work with the people that I want to work with. And a podcast. When I wrote my first book, people are like, you can't write a memoir in the middle of your life.
Starting point is 01:05:02 the only people who write books are people who need money or who are washed up. That's what they told me. Yeah. And I was like, well, I think I have something to say. I think I think it would be good. So look, I'm no genius about it or anything like that, but I do have the ability to do what interests me and let the chips fall where they may. And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. And that's what keeps it fun and that's what keeps you loving it, I'm sure. If you were to just follow the rules that everyone wants you to follow, that's how you fall out of love with. it, I think. And it's also how people get tired of you. Mm-hmm. If you keep showing up in the same stuff, people think they've seen it.
Starting point is 01:05:41 Yeah, they figured you out. They figured you out. You mentioned, you know, the floor. It's back tonight. Yes. So exciting. So you love game shows. And the other part of it is I love, let's face it, we're in the audience business.
Starting point is 01:05:54 And I, there's nothing more frustrating than doing something you like that people never hear about or never see. still worth doing. But when people embrace something, it's a whole other thing. And when I'm out in the world and people come up to me and go, oh, my God, I'm obsessed with the floor. I watch it with my kids or we get together and we like that means something to me. And in today's entertainment landscape, the notion of having something that people watch
Starting point is 01:06:26 in real time and watch in groups doesn't happen. And like families, the kids are watching euphoria and dad's watching ESPN and mom's watching whatever. Like, that's, it's fragmented. People are watching the floor together. And that's really, really rare and super cool to be a part of. That is the best part about the floor and a game show is when you sit down, maybe it's right after dinner and you're together with your family, your partner, whoever, like, let's put
Starting point is 01:06:54 on the floor together. Right. And you want, that is the best. That is the best. You play along at home is the whole point. I mean, that's really the point. Yeah. And that's what I've always loved.
Starting point is 01:07:04 I mean, I was on one of the earliest iterations of celebrity $10,000 pyramid. $10,000. That's how long ago it was. Small prize now. Yeah, small price now. And I loved it. And so I've kind of been hooked on trivia game shows ever since. You've done Family Feud.
Starting point is 01:07:26 I did Family Feud in honor my wife for her birthday. she's obsessed with family feud. Who isn't? And she's hard to surprise. Big control freak, my wife, Cheryl. But I managed not only to surprise her, got the family in full makeup and hair in a car all the way to Los Angeles
Starting point is 01:07:44 to a sound stage. She still didn't know. Wow. Because I told her we were being interviewed for a videography for her birthday and she believed it. And we walked under the set of family feud and then I revealed
Starting point is 01:07:58 that we're playing. And she freaked out. She freaked out. Was she mad at you that she wasn't prepared? She was she would. And I knew she would be, but that was like the flack I was willing to endure. That's what I don't like about surprises. I don't like it either.
Starting point is 01:08:09 I don't like to be prepared. I know. But I was doing it. It's worth it. It was so worth it. And at one point we were down, I think it was 247 to nothing. And we came back and won. That's amazing.
Starting point is 01:08:23 We won family feud without ever touching the buzzer. Wow. I don't know if that's how many times that's been done. That's really incredible because here at Barstle, they just did celebrity family feud and they got the second worst score in history of family feud ever. We would have been the worst. Yeah, but you came back. So finally, it's like, you know, when an athlete's on a cold streak and finally they come back,
Starting point is 01:08:45 Cheryl Lowe finally. She locked in. She had to get over the surprise. Yes. And you threw her off. She saved us. Yes. You know, you mentioned your family.
Starting point is 01:08:52 You have two sons. Matthew and Johnny. Yes. Can we talk about what's going? on. Like, what is the thing with John Stamos? Are you jealous of him that your son seems to always wish him a happy birthday? Or are you a happy birthday with a picture of him? It's the gift that keeps on giving. My son, John Owen, has literally made a cottage industry. Well, he created and sold a show to Netflix, basically, based on the dynamic of a son who wants to make fun of his well-known father.
Starting point is 01:09:22 And it makes me laugh. I, I, he's a really funny. Both my boys are hilarious. My other son, Matthew, is in finance. And so the public doesn't really know how funny he is. But John Owen, in his obsession with John Stamos, is really, really unbelievable. I was looking at his Instagram earlier. I'm like, all these pictures of John Stamos are killing me. It's really funny. And for my, I think it was my 60th birthday, he went to John's house and they did a whole 60th with my dad and yet it was John's a great sport about it. That's amazing. You know, speaking of your birthday, you did a Burt Kreischer's show.
Starting point is 01:10:07 Yes. At the beginning, which was hilarious. I felt like that opened up the show in such an amazing way. I feel like you're so good at leaning into playing yourself, like a caricature of yourself in that way. Yeah, like a, I've always felt that there was not felt, I know that in an alternative timeline, like a reality show about my family would have would have been you it would have been selling my soul but I'm telling you we would have had a fleet of Gulf streams what you would have been the
Starting point is 01:10:41 the the Kardashians yeah and we would have been sitting here talking about it and eating it up every I know what what's the behind the scenes of your family like you know if you're talking about a reality show give us the day to day I mean first of all it's it's my my my wife Cheryl is a born star and she's really pretty, really smart and insane. By the way, the best qualities. No, no. I never know which personality you're going to get. It's like having multiple lives. And she's a Gemini. Yeah. Okay. There you go. So, um, and by the way, that's the only thing that could keep me on a leash for 35 years. Mm-hmm. I love it. Is, is, is somebody who's insane. Yeah. In a great way. Exactly. Um, but I don't do boring. No. I don't do dull. I don't do
Starting point is 01:11:26 Like this, like, oh, she's nice. No, no, no, no. No, I need, I need like... Stimulation. The jizz, whatever it is. And then, you know, of course, my boys are insane, are dogs. There's always a lot going on at my house. But I, yeah, I love doing...
Starting point is 01:11:47 I did a show called The Grindr that did one season on Fox. It's my favorite comedy I've ever been in. And it exists somewhere. I think it's probably on Hulu. but I play a crazy actor. So anytime I can take, like you, I didn't want to say it out loud, but since you said it, we were all thinking. I'm not going to deny it.
Starting point is 01:12:05 Yeah. Anytime, but again, it's like I get, I get the joke. You know what I mean? It's like, I get it. We're not treating cancer. Yeah. Like, you're an entertainer. We're an entertainer.
Starting point is 01:12:17 Let's be entertaining. And by the way, that that is as lofty and as important in society as anything else. but it's not life and death. We need entertainers. We need storytellers. They're a part of the human experience. What we give and bring is, it really is really important to the human experience,
Starting point is 01:12:40 but it's not as serious. It's like, oh my God. Everyone needs to take a deep breath. That's just all take a fuck. Yeah, y'all. Maybe a little cigarette break or something and step out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just take a deep breath about it.
Starting point is 01:12:53 I feel you on that. I feel like, you know, as an entertainer. I love that you don't take yourself so seriously. I mean, you take your work seriously. You want to do a good job. Yeah, I want to, I want to create a new, a new phrase. Because when you say, you don't take yourself seriously, it's like, that is the phrase. So that's what we use. But it has an element to it of frivolity, of like throwing it all. Do you know what I'm saying? It's like, like, yeah, like, no, you care. Yeah, no, exactly. It's like, no, it's, I care. I'm a professional. it's deliberate.
Starting point is 01:13:25 Right. You're going to show up and do your job. Yeah, the job requires what it requires. But it's self-deprecating is better maybe. Yes. Yeah. But like you look at awareness. How about self-awareness?
Starting point is 01:13:40 Here's what I was the other day. I was a few years ago I played JFK. And I was studying all of the film on him. And I stumbled across his press conferences. If you've never seen a JFK press. conference, look at it. He's the president of the United States. And he is funny, self-deprecating, hilarious about himself, and gets it. And to me, that's the model. As opposed to like the overly tortured, serious, like... Method? Listen, method is, if it works for you, it's fine.
Starting point is 01:14:20 I mean, I get it because like, well, when I was doing JFK, I had to do the accent a lot. Right. Because it's hard to get it and lose it and get it. And like get off set and stop doing it and then go back. So I get that. But the notion of like somebody coming up to me off camera and all I want to talk about is the Cuban missile crisis, that's a bridge too far. Yeah. Like we need a break here.
Starting point is 01:14:43 Yeah, exactly. If someone's playing a serial killer, like we don't want them. We don't need to go and actually kill somebody. Exactly. Like let's not take it too far. Yeah, exactly, exactly. For sure. I'm so interested and excited about you doing a documentary about your life.
Starting point is 01:14:55 I feel like people are going to be so excited. I just feel like you have so many stories to give. And you know what is fun is the archival footage that they've discovered. Really? Like outsiders auditions. Wow. Oh my God. That just made me so excited.
Starting point is 01:15:10 And like talk shows that I was on as a baby and like behind the scenes of movies. and it's and then you know the people that who I don't can't reveal who are interviewed are pretty fairly interesting but it's it's a journey it's a real journey I'll tell you like watching yourself do you like seeing this old footage of you? There's some there's a lot of there's a lot of regrettable hairstyles really do you think you look back at these these videos and go
Starting point is 01:15:43 man I look the same because I think that's what a lot of people say about you. They want to know the aging secret. I know you know this. It's, it's my, well, that's my genetics, really. My dad is 86, um, two weeks ago. And he, you know, passed, he's, he looks like he's 70 if, right? And then, and then listen, I don't drink. I've been sober for 36 years. Right. That's a, that's a huge, like people don't realize what a huge, like, leg up that is. It really does. It really does make a difference. Yeah. You know, like, it's not the same thing, but like preparing for any event or whatever, if you are a drinker like myself and you go a couple weeks without drinking, I look at the mirror. I'm like, oh, yeah, I do look, I do look better. You're like,
Starting point is 01:16:35 oh, I have cheekbones. Yeah, I'm like, oh, I came back. Yeah, I have cheekbones. I have a jawline. I never knew. No, but so, you know, there's that. And then the other thing is sleep. I was sleeping before it was cool. Really? Like how many hours? I was sleeping in a culture where I was like, you can sleep when you're dead. Yeah. I'm good for five hours. And now that's people have realized, that's not.
Starting point is 01:16:58 Are you a napper? I've started to become a napper. Really? Now. Now, yeah. I love a good nap. I love a good nap now. I didn't used to. But I've always been a sleeper.
Starting point is 01:17:08 And I think that that came from being a child actor. And, you know, when your team, teenager, all you want to do is sleep, right? Do you remember that? Like, you'd wake up for carton. I love this about life. There's that moment where you wake up for cartoons on a Saturday morning. You're wide away. And you're like boi-o-yo-yo-yo-yo-ho-ho's on. It's like 7 a.m. And then all of a sudden, something happens. We get, we get our hormones change and we're like to like noon. It was terrible. Growing up, I, I missed so many days of school. Like I was teetering the edge of like, all right, you're on your 30th day of not coming into school.
Starting point is 01:17:45 Like, we're going to, we're calling the parents and you may not. You were able to pull that off? Yeah, well, because I, my parents let me stay home. Like, I would just be like, oh, my stomach hurts. Please, let me stay home. Because I just wanted to sleep so bad. But you know what? It was really fun because not to bring up John Stamos again, but at noon on ABC family,
Starting point is 01:18:09 they always played full house reruns. So I'd stay home. I'd get to watch that. But then like once my parents came home for work, it wasn't fun anymore. Because now I'm faking sick still. But see, you wanted to sleep. And I was doing movies and TV. I'm talking about staying home from school.
Starting point is 01:18:27 So I was like, no, yeah, legitimately. So getting up at 4.30 in the morning was brutal. So when I wasn't working, I slept like a demon. and I've just kept the sleeping thing going. Right. That's great. So now everybody knows good sleep. Good sleep and genetics.
Starting point is 01:18:48 And if you don't have the genetics, sorry. And if you don't have the good sleep, that ain't, and watch the alcohol. Yeah, exactly. I mean, that will help anybody. It really does. That will move the needle for anybody. And it's not something people want to hear. No, it's like, I remember when I first started training and people were like,
Starting point is 01:19:04 Sylvester Stallone said to me, you know, abs are made in the kitchen. And I was like, I don't want to hear that. Because my kitchen serves milkshakes and in the morning pancakes. Yeah. I didn't want to hear. And I thought, oh, no, I can, it's true. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:21 I hate that phrase. Abs are amazing. It's so true. You can do your crunches. It's not going to do anything. It's all about the food. And, you know, my parents always do it. It's going to catch up to you.
Starting point is 01:19:32 It's going to catch up to you. It's going to catch up to you. It does. It does. That's the other thing. Yeah. By the way, I say that and I'm leaving here. I'm going right around the corner at five guys. Well, you know what? That's fine. It's right at the block.
Starting point is 01:19:43 And you look fan. We already talked about it. You look fantastic. You don't have to worry about it. I'm going to milk shake it up, man. We talked about your sons briefly, but I do want to know, not advice that you've given them that they have listened to. Advice that you've given that they haven't listened to because you just gave us a little bit right there. Oh, I can. We're in New York City the first time my sons were old enough to go to the nightclubs they were here. And, you know, they're country robs, my kids. They grew up in Santa Barbara.
Starting point is 01:20:13 They're, they are not street smart. I mean, they may have gone to Stanford and Duke, but they're dummies. It is because I'm from New York. It is different meeting kids from California. Right? Yeah. So my son was like, yeah, I'm meeting my friends. We're going to go, where is it?
Starting point is 01:20:31 And it goes, it's down in the Bowery and this and then. And I was like, all right, well, listen, you know. Just keep your head on a swevel. He goes, Dad, Dad, Dad, I'm fine. I'm going to be fine. I'm like, John Owen, it's New York. I'm just saying. He's, Dad, stop it.
Starting point is 01:20:46 He was home by midnight with a black eye. Oh, my God. And had gotten mugged by a guy with a knife because he was on his phone, not paying attention. You can't do that. But that's the thing is like, you know, it's like all kids are. clueless experts. Oh, we all think we're smarter than our parents. Right?
Starting point is 01:21:09 Always. I do the same thing. I'm like, Dad, I know. I get it. And then you call them the next day and be like, you were right. I know. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:20 That to me is the ultimate one. So do they spend time in New York now? Are they still? They come and go for work. Right. Matthew's based in California and Johnny is obviously there too, which is great. because I love having them around. We're all very close.
Starting point is 01:21:37 I talk to them multiple times every day, see them a lot. A lot of these times? Really, really close family. Yeah. And of course, if they don't pick up the face time, I know that they're definitely up to no good. Do you hit the double faith or the text like, hello, are you there? They're pretty good. They get back to me.
Starting point is 01:21:54 Okay, good. Good. They're good. Yeah, they're good boys. Good boys. Good boys. Oh, my gosh. Rob, thank you so much.
Starting point is 01:22:03 This is so fun. Everybody go watch the musical in theaters. Big laughs. I'm guaranteed, certified by me. Yes. And we can't wait to learn more about you. We already know so much, but we're very excited to see even more and hear more stories and see more footage.
Starting point is 01:22:19 So thank you so much. Thank you. All right. That wraps up today's episode of Chicks in the Office. Thank you so much for watching and listening. We love you guys so very much. We hope you have an amazing day. Thanks for bearing with us for the late releases this week.
Starting point is 01:22:35 It's hectic. We're here, and we'll be back on Friday. Yeah, chicks in the office. A long-time listener. First-time caller. Look at the charts. Who does it the best? Two chicks getting paid in reality checks.
Starting point is 01:22:52 You can find them at the gym. It's not even a flex. Last minute, red carpet blew him out on the jet. Yeah, they're who you want to be. They're always on your screen.
