Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, Chicks in the Office listeners. You can find every episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or YouTube. Prime members can listen ad free on Amazon Music. What's up, everyone? It's Chicks in the Office with Rianne, giving you that Friday energy on a Thursday. This podcast is presented to you by Francia wines, our favorite wine to drink right now. Our favorite wine to drink all summer long. We've been talking about it to you guys every single podcast. There's all different types of wine that you can choose from. My personal favorite is the Pinot Regio. And like we've been saying, there's six and a half bottles in each box of wine.
Starting point is 00:00:50 So you know, you don't have to do multiple trips to the grocery store. You don't have to struggle carrying six bottles of wine in your hand out of the store. No, it's all in one place, easy, simple. Use it in your house. Take it to the beach. Whatever it is, go with Francia. It is the best, like you said, so many different varieties of wine. choose from red white rosé they have it all and so easy to take so easy to travel with you can take it
Starting point is 00:01:14 to the beach you can you know bring it out to the backyard great for outdoor drinking inside drinking watching tv whatever it is they also have their little juice box guys that we like to call them that are perfect for on the go moments as well and yeah guys if you're looking for a nice summer moment a good summer drink look no further than franzia Absolutely. So if you are drinking Francia, tag us in your stories. We'll repost it. We're drinking it with you guys. Go get your Franziah once today. All right, Fran, how are you doing on this lovely Wednesday afternoon? It is approximately 154 p.m. July 29th. How are you feeling? I'm feeling good, Ria. It's almost August. We talked about that. It is very bizarre that it's already almost August. It feels crazy. But other than that, doing good. Nothing really big. going on for me this week. Just really been hanging. No big activities. I've been watching a lot of lacrosse. I'm not going to lie. That's about it. My boyfriend has a love for lacrosse. Such a snooze. I know. Yep. I know. I know. Been watching a lot of PLL. That's that's about it.
Starting point is 00:02:31 I have nothing to add to that conversation. I wish I did. I wish that I could be like, yes, I've been watching the cross too, but I can't fake it. I just can't fake it. I haven't been watching across. Super, super, super fair. How are you, Ria? I had to get tested for Corona today because I'm getting a colonoscopy on Monday. It's a little TMI, but, you know, might as well tell everyone the people, the people what's going on. Because people were concerned about my stomach issues for a little while. I was going to say, I was going to say, I feel like the public actually does kind of care about your gut health. Yes, I am getting a colonoscopy on Monday. I actually have put it off since March. I was supposed to
Starting point is 00:03:08 get it that week that everything went crazy. Like the NBA shut down and then all of a sudden we were on lockdown. Like shit hit the fan. And I canceled with my appointment because I was like, this is the perfect excuse. I don't want to get Corona. Sorry, I can't come get the colonoscopy. And I thought I would get out of it. No, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:03:26 My stomach doctor has called me every day since the end of May to come get this colonoscopy. No joke. Like her assistant, the amount of voicemails I have on my phone from her assistant being like, call us back. Yeah. So finally, I picked up the other day, had a voice call with my doctor, and she was like, listen, you have to get it done. I don't know what to tell you.
Starting point is 00:03:47 You have to get it done. There's no avoiding it. So I'm going to do that Monday. But then she was like, you need to get a coronavirus test the week before so we know you don't have corona when you come in for this call. Got the test. It's terrible. There's really no other way to put it.
Starting point is 00:04:04 Like, it feels like you're drowning, not drowning, sorry. It feels like there's water up your nose, but a hundred times more pressure and it actually hurts. It feels like my brain is getting fucked by like a cotton swab. It just, it doesn't feel great. But, you know, it was quick. I was over it with, you know, by the end of it, you're like, oh, okay, well, that was done. That's simple. Yeah. So I've got that going for me. And I was trending on Twitter this week because of Outer Banks. Thank you to the people who tweeted hashtag Get Reon Outer Banks. I couldn't have been trending without you guys. Seriously. thank you to the listeners of Chicks in the Office, because I'm sure you guys were behind it mostly. A lot of good tweets. It was amazing to see until Stan Twitter got involved. And listen, we've talked about Stan Twitter on this podcast a bunch of times. And somehow I still forgot that that would get me to. I thought that I would be in the clear trending that Stan Twitter wouldn't be coming after me.
Starting point is 00:05:00 K-pop stands wouldn't be in there. They were. I didn't mind the K-pop stands. I found that enjoyable. Stan Twitter, the 12 girls. You could have been like five minutes from Ria's over party. Oh, I thought that was happening. I was like, oh, great.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Get Ria on Outer Banks is trending. And now hashtag Ria's Over Party is not trending because Stan Twitter was not happy with me. They were like, this girl is using her platform to get a part. I'm like, listen, this is not to get a part. This is to get an audition for one line in the show. I am not asking to be a main character. I'm not even asking for a handout. I'm asking for a goddamn audition people.
Starting point is 00:05:37 That's not what I said to them. I didn't reply to them because... No, no, no. They were probably 12 years old. So I was like, you know what? I'll let them be mad. It is what it is. But that's besides the point because trending was fucking awesome.
Starting point is 00:05:47 I was like, oh my God, I've never trended on Twitter before. This is so cool. It was like such a surreal moment. So thank you to everybody who tweeted. That was pretty cool. Yes, definitely very cool. And it's so funny because it's like such a harmless thing. Like, we're asking for a cameo, a mere...
Starting point is 00:06:06 Your character is. doesn't even have to have a name. Like we're not. I don't even need an, literally shoot me off the show within one second and I don't care. You can be like girl number five. Like, yes. Girl number five. Who says hello. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:06:24 Exactly. I mean, it could be anything. Yeah. One line. Chase did acknowledge. Chase did acknowledge the movement. So, you know, I feel like we're getting in the hands of the right people. I did speak to him.
Starting point is 00:06:37 And I was like, listen, I'm not going to keep bothering you guys. Like, this is, this is not you're doing. You are not supposed to get me on this show. And this is, like, this is the big moment. You're like, I got it trending and now, like, here's proof. And, like, the ball is in your court. And he was totally understanding. He was laughing.
Starting point is 00:06:55 He was like, no, that's hilarious. Like, I know that you did acting. Like, I know that you're not just like a crazy person. Like, it's funny. Like, don't worry about it. So, and he said he'll try to keep me in the loop. So we'll see. We'll see what happens. It is what it is at this point. And I guess we'll see. We're trying to put it on the universe. We're putting it on the universe. We're trying to manifest it. And that's all
Starting point is 00:07:18 we can do, guys. And if it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. We'll still support the show. I'll still watch Outer Banks too. I would still die for Don B. All in good fun. Yep. All the above. Fran, let's get into the topics for today's podcast. We have the Emmy nominations. We are going to be going through most of them because we're really excited about the shows. and the people that are nominated this year for the Emmys. We are also going to be talking about selling sunset seasons one and two because season three is coming out very, very soon. So we want to get that recap in before it comes out.
Starting point is 00:07:49 If you haven't watched already, then don't listen because of spoilers. But if you did watch, then listen to the recap. We will also be talking about Vanessa Morgan and her unfortunate divorce, but also she's having a baby. It's a whole world one of a story. And we have an interview with Dub Cameron. So let's get into it, starting off with the Emmy nominations. It is time to get into the 2020 Emmy nominations for this year.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Super exciting. Not really sure how they're going to show the Emmys. I think it's going to be virtually. Either way, I'm watching, I'm tuning in. I'm rooting for all my favorite shows and for all my favorite people. So let's get into it. Let's talk about the nominations. I love, I really liked that opening.
Starting point is 00:09:02 intro Ria, I felt like maybe with the little game show music in the background, it would have been like, all right, ladies and gentlemen, we're here to get into the 2020 Emmy Awards. I'm hoping Noah, I'm hoping Noah at a sudden. Yeah, he's not paying attention, but it could, when he listens back, he'll hear it when he listens back. Okay, we'll start from the top. We'll go through a bunch of the good ones. Number one, outstanding comedy series.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Curp your enthusiasm. dead to me, insecure, Schitt's Creek, the Good Place, the Kaminsky method, the marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and what we do in the shadows. Now, I know of all of these shows, and the only one I don't know of is what we do in the shadows. Have never heard of that, but it must be good. But it's nominated, so it must be good. Fran, I want to know your top two picks. You've got to pick two shows.
Starting point is 00:09:59 What are you going with? Um, okay. So personally for me, I would go dead to me and Mrs. Maisel because those are two of my favorites. I know people love Schitt's Creek and I understand that. I respect it. Um, I have attempted to watch Schitt's Creek multiple times. Didn't do it for me. Maybe I'll try again. Maybe I won't. I don't know. But welcome to that's all I have to say about that. Welcome to the. Welcome to the. goddamn club friend because first of all my two picks would be dead to me and curb your enthusiasm. I'm leaning towards dead to me though because I love curb your enthusiasm but, you know, I think although this season, this past season was very good, I think the earlier seasons were at its peak and I think dead to me right now is just a fabulous show that should win it all. Yeah. As for Schitt's Creek, I too tried to watch that show multiple times. And the first time I started watching it. I was like, you know, I'm really going to give this a shot because everyone
Starting point is 00:11:03 is saying I would love it. I didn't really love it. So I stopped watching. Then I tried again and I was like, maybe I wasn't paying attention enough. Yeah. Watched it. Did the same thing. Got up to like season two, middle of season two, still was not feeling it. Tweeted about it and people were not happy. Oh, I know. They, that's why I don't ever talk about it. This girl told me I was stupid and I like stupid shows. because I like new girl better than Schitt's Creek. And that's completely fine. But I just, I just don't fuck with it. Like, it's not that funny to me. And I was looking for a really funny show. And to each their own, if you like Schitt's Creek, you like Schitt's Creek. That it is what it is. It just doesn't do it for me. I don't find it entertaining. I find it frustrating.
Starting point is 00:11:50 And I'm not going to continue watching it. I'm not going to give it a fifth or six try. I've tried multiple times. Right. This is, and it's really, like I said, people love Schitt's Creek. I absolutely understand that. I'm sure a lot of our listeners absolutely love it. And that is fantastic. I don't know what it is. It's just maybe not our cup of tea. That, which is totally fine. Plain and simple. Literally, I do not want to. I just got to say our, you know, speak our truth. Can't. I don't want to upset people. We can't upset people that we didn't like a show. Like, you don't own the show. You didn't create the show. You're not the writer of the show. You're not in the show. So do not attack us for not liking a
Starting point is 00:12:29 fucking show. Okay, moving on. Yeah. I do like Insecure also. I wanted to say Insecure is also nominated. That's a great show. Okay. Outstanding lead actor in a comedy series. We have Don Cheadle, Anthony Anderson,
Starting point is 00:12:45 Ramayucef, Eugene Levy, uh, you, I always say Eugene Levy, Eugene Levy, and, oh, there's two more. Ted Danson and Michael Douglas. Now, anybody's game here. I Congrats to all of these
Starting point is 00:13:02 gentlemen I don't really feel passionate about any of them I don't feel passionate either I'm choosing Ted Danson just because I know his name the best so I'm choosing Ted Dantz Yeah Ted Dantz
Starting point is 00:13:14 I know people and I wanted to watch Rami because I know he won before and I'm excited I feel like it was like a surprise win I think that was the Golden Globes he won and everybody was surprised So I feel like that's worth giving a shot. I would be, but maybe he'll get the Emmy for that too since he got it for the Golden Globe,
Starting point is 00:13:36 but you never know. Okay. Now we have outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, Tracy Ellis Ross, Christina Applegate, Linda Carlini, Issa Ray, Catherine O'Hara, and Rachel Brosnahan. Love Dead to Me, so rooting for Christina and Linda on this. I'm going Christina Applegate. Because I love both of them.
Starting point is 00:14:00 I love Linda Cardalini and Christina Applegate, but there was something about Christina Applegate in this show that made me die laughing. I just thought she did a spectacular job as well as Linda Cardalini. Yeah, both of them are so good. I would be happy with either, but I'm rooting for Christina Applegate. Yeah, they both are fantastic. Okay, let's see. Shall we do, this is kind of some into the supporting actor category.
Starting point is 00:14:25 outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series. And I feel like if I mess up people's names, I apologize. It is what it is. You did your best. Andre Brower for Brooklyn Nine-N-N-N-N-N-I. I guess I should probably say what show they're on, right? Yes.
Starting point is 00:14:43 Which I didn't do for the other ones. Okay. Andre Brower for Brooklyn Nine-nine. Mahershala Ali for Rami Kina-Thompson for Saturday Night Live. Danielle Levy for Schitts Creek, William Jackson Harper for the Good Place, Alan Arkin for the Kaminsky Method, Sterling K. Brown for the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Tony Shaloub for the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I'm going Keenan Thompson for Saturday Night Live.
Starting point is 00:15:06 Wow. Okay. I'm not going Keenan Thompson for Saturday Night Live. I'm going Keenan Thompson for Keenan and Kelle and all that. So just really hoping he gets this for all of his past work. Correct. As a collection. Okay. Then we have Outstanding Supporting Actors in the Comedy Series. Betty Gilpin for Glow, Yvon Orgy for Insecure,
Starting point is 00:15:29 Kate McKinnon, Saturday Night Live, Sessly Strong, Saturday Night Live, Annie Murphy, Schitts Creek, Darcy Cardin, the Good Place, Marin Henkel, the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Alex Forstein for the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. I am going to go with either Apple, Postein for the Marvelous Miss Maisel
Starting point is 00:15:48 or Betty Kilpin for Glow, because I did watch Glow, and so I'm, I'm just going to go with those two. I've seen those two shows. Amazing. Yes. I have also a big fan of Alex Borstein for Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. And I love Kate McKinnon too. And then the rest, I actually never watched Glove. So I'm not too sure. And obviously we talked about not watching Schitt's so we don't have to continue to talk about it. And then, okay, obviously there's more that, you know, you got guest actor and all those things. I'm just going to go past those because, you know,
Starting point is 00:16:21 those i don't even think you see those in the in the show um in the actual production of the show and of course i went of course i'm looking at the actual emmys list from their actual websites so it's like outstanding directing outstanding writing which obviously very important but here we are okay outstanding drama series better call saul killing eve ozark stranger things succession the crown The Handmaid's Tale, The Mandalorian. I will cry if Succession doesn't win, although I think Ozark is going to win because people are so obsessed with Ozark lately.
Starting point is 00:17:02 Like, it's all I hear about. You need to watch Ozark. You need to watch Ozark. Ozark's the best show ever. That's how I feel about Succession. Well, I say every show is the best show ever. I really, really enjoy Succession. I really do.
Starting point is 00:17:14 And I love all the people on the show. So, of course, I am rooting so hard for Succession to win. but I just have a feeling that, you know, these other shows are so great as well. Yeah, you're very, you're very, very right. We are big Succession fans. Absolutely loved it. And it's hard because I feel like there is a little bit of a recency bias. Like, it's been a long time since season two of Succession came out and we all watched it.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Ozark feels a little bit more recent. Some of these other shows have just had a new season come out. So I feel like when that happens, people, are just laser focused on those ones because it's like, oh, those are just the ones you watched last and you remember how good it is and you forget about maybe some of the other shows that you watch a little bit farther back.
Starting point is 00:18:03 That were also great. I am a sucker for the crown. I've always loved the crown. And then obviously a big talking point was the Mandalorian. I think a lot of people were surprised to see that get so many nominations. It's obviously Disney Plus. It's Star Wars.
Starting point is 00:18:18 It's a whole different thing. People love the Mandalorian. I thought the Mandalorian was fantastic as a Star Wars fan. I didn't think I would see them get nominated for an Emmy, so it's a pleasant surprise. People are pissed, though. I saw people not happy. I don't know why anybody would be pissed about it.
Starting point is 00:18:36 I mean, people loved the show, so it makes sense why it was nominated. Although surprising, I do understand it. So this is a category that's always stacked. Great shows every single year, year after year. It could go to anybody. Totally. You really can't go wrong with any of these at all. Outstanding lead actor in a drama series.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Jason Bateman for Ozark, Billy Porter for Pose, Brian Cox for Succession, Jeremy Strong for Secession, and Steve Correll for the Morning Show, and Sterling K. Brown for This Is Us. Ooh, this is a tough one. L to the OG. Yes, exactly. L to the OG, you'd be the OG.
Starting point is 00:19:17 That's my favorite. So we talked about it. Love Succession. obviously rooting for Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong. I did watch The Morning Show and Steve Krell was really, really good in that as well. But my heart thinks that this is going to go to Jason Bateman for Ozark. Everyone loves Ozark right now. Everyone loves Ozark. People are obsessed with Ozark. So I just, I think it's going to go to, and didn't Brian Cox win last year or did he win for the Golden Globe? Did he win recently? Why do I have a feeling you won recently? I kept thinking that
Starting point is 00:19:50 the Golden Gloves were the Emmys, so I'm all over the place. Right. So I think he did for, I think he did at the Golden Globes. I don't think Steve Krell is going to win for the morning show. He did a great job, but I don't think he's going to win. Jeremy Strong was really so good in that second season. He was. He was.
Starting point is 00:20:10 I think it's going to go to either either of the succession guys or Jason Bateman, for us are. Yeah, I could totally see that. We'd also love to see Billy Porter win as well. There's a lot of great options and a lot of great actors in this category. Outstanding lead actress in a drama series. We have Zendaya for Euphoria, Jody Comer for Kling Eve, Sandra O for Kling Eve, Laura Linney for Ozark, Olivia Coleman for the Crown, and Jennifer Aniston for the Morning Show.
Starting point is 00:20:38 I'm rooting for Zendaya. Absolutely, 100%. I really think Zendaya deserves to win for Euphoria. I will not be upset if Jennifer Aniston wins for the morning show, though, because I think she did a fabulous job in the morning show, really just a phenomenal job. You still have to watch that. I highly recommend if you haven't seen the morning show,
Starting point is 00:20:57 watch it. It was really, really good at my opinion. And I think Jennifer Aniston really did an amazing job. I mean, when you watch her compared to like who she wasn't friends, which I know was so long ago, but people always go back to like Rachel Green.
Starting point is 00:21:10 It just is such a different character than what she's usually playing. So rooting for Zendaya, but wouldn't be mad about Jennifer Aniston. Definitely. I agree with you on that. Zendaya was so great in euphoria. So good.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Like just... She really deserves it. Really crushed it. There's so many scenes that I'm just thinking about right now where I was like she deserves awards for just those moments. Like when she was banging on the drug dealer's door
Starting point is 00:21:38 having that meltdown, like, oh, she was so, so, so good. I really hope, and you know she's going to look so good. Even over Zoom. She'll look fabulous. We know this. Yeah, like whatever, however they have to do this whole thing, she's going to look amazing.
Starting point is 00:21:54 Okay, supporting actor in a drama series, John Carlo Esposito for Better Calls Saul, Nicholas Braun, Succession, who can't tell who we're for for Cairn for Secession, Kieran Culkin for Secession, Matthew McFadden for Secession, and Bradley Whitford for the Handmaid Tale. Oh, there's actually way more.
Starting point is 00:22:15 Bradley Whitford for the Handmaid's Tale. Billy Crutt up for the Morning Show, Mark Duplas for the Morning Show, and Jeffrey Wright for Westworld. Obviously, look, these three guys, succession, can not go wrong. Tom, Cousin Greg, Roman. You can't go wrong with any of them. They're all fantastic. They make the show. All three of those guys completely make this show. I am Nicholas Braun biased, cousin Greg. Because that's my guy. Like, we're friends at this point. I mean, I, friends to the point. where I congratulated him and he responded with, thank you so much, I need to come on the show.
Starting point is 00:22:51 So I think that I feel biased towards Nichols-Bron, although, like you said, Tom, Roman. I really wish. They're all so good and they're all unique in their own way. They all play such a different role, but they're all supporting actors, obviously. So it could really just go either one.
Starting point is 00:23:13 The thing with Roman is he plays such a, a weird role and like that I think it may go to him just because of how truly weird his character is like cousin Greg and Tom are great and their comedic timing is flawless but there's something about Roman that just makes his part a little weirder and a bit more harder to play I think I agree with you wouldn't it be great if Nicholas and Matthew McVan could just like split the award just like Greg and Cousin Tom are, I mean, Greg and Cousin Tom, Tom and Cousin Greg are such a great duo that they just deserve to win this as like a duo. Like as a, as a duo nomination. I saw Nicholas post like a really funny screenshot on his story too of like an article that said
Starting point is 00:24:02 Kieran Coulkin was like going to kick him in the balls if he want. And Nicholas was like, yeah, he's not lying. He's definitely going to do that. It could go to either one of them. But it better go to one of them because all three of them were nominated. If it doesn't go to at least one of them, the odds are in their favor. Yeah. If it doesn't go to at least one of them, I'm rioting. That's it. Yeah. It has to be at least one, specifically Nicholas Braun, if that could happen. Because I just think, he's just so nice. Like, I just, I'm just rooting for him to win an Emmy. Super fair. Supporting actress in a drama series, Merrill Street for Big Little Lies, Laura Dern for Big Little Lies, Fiona Shaw for killing Eve
Starting point is 00:24:43 Julia Gardner for Ozark Sarah Snook for secession Helena Bonham Carter for the Crown Samira Wiley for The Handmaid's Tale and Fannie Newton for Westworld. I'm going Laura Dern. I love me some
Starting point is 00:24:59 Laura Dern. I love Laura Dern too. She's just an icon, I feel like. And I do love Big Little Lies. You watch Big Little Lies in quarantine, right? I did. Yeah. Yeah. So I'm going Laura Dern. Listen, Merrill, you've had enough awards. I'm going Laura Dern. Super fair. Merrill was great and big little lies.
Starting point is 00:25:18 I really thought she was good. But all these people are awesome. And, you know, it's funny because I see somebody, like, Fiona Shaw, killing Eve, I have not watched Killing Eve, but I know people absolutely love killing Eve. I should probably put that on my list of shows to watch. I see Fiona Shaw and I just think
Starting point is 00:25:38 Aunt Petunia. from Harry Potter. Like, it's just, I really would have a hard time watching her do anything else. And obviously, Sarah Snuck, we, you know, Shiv, she's fantastic as well. So it would just be, it would be amazing if they could just win every award that. I'm sure that would piss plenty of people off who love other, some of these other shows. But that's our favorite. What can we say?
Starting point is 00:26:02 Right. And then once again, there's obviously a bunch of guest actor and drama, guest actress and drama as well. I'm not going to go through all of them because, like I said, there is a lot. And then those are basically the major ones. Obviously, there's a bunch of other awards, tons of different ones, short form. I saw Quibi got nominated for a lot of like this short form, Emmy Awards, Kailin Olson.
Starting point is 00:26:28 They posted a very funny video of her and her husband. Obviously, it's always sunny, has never been nominated. And they posted a very funny video of, you know, her being like, I'm nominated for a show. My husband did not write. I'm also looking at the outstanding variety talk shows. Jimmy Kimmel being nominated is it just, I'm sorry, it makes me laugh a little bit, considering he's taking this break and it's like, you know, maybe we're going to give it somebody else a nomination just for this time.
Starting point is 00:27:04 Well, you know, the Emmys are on ABC, so. Good point. Good point. There was a lot of good ones. And then do you have the reality TV one in front of you? Do you see that one? I can't scroll through all these. I actually have the host for a reality or reality competition program. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:24 But I do not see the... Oh, I want to talk about quickly... The Amazing Race. Outstanding limited series, Little Fires Everywhere, Mrs. America. unbelievable unorthodox and watchmen i have a feeling watchman is going to get uh the award because people are obsessed with watchman i haven't watched that yet i really love got a lot i really loved little fires everywhere so that's what i will be rooting for and let me see what else did we miss just going through i know i'm of course like i was looking at the list with every every every
Starting point is 00:27:58 nomination which just goes on forever but yeah little fires everywhere was so good i I would love to see that one. But I think Watchmen got like the most nominations out of any show. Yeah, I definitely think that Watchman is going to get nominated because people really, really loved it. Did you ever try to watch Watchman? No, I haven't.
Starting point is 00:28:25 I know people kept telling me to watch, so I know that I should watch. But no, not yet. I, you know, a lot of TV. I've watched a lot of TV. starting a lot of different shows at different times. I know. I think I found...
Starting point is 00:28:40 I think that might be one... It might be one of those HBO ones that, for me, might just go, like, way over my head. It was like me trying to watch Westworld. It just didn't happen. Tiger King was nominated. For what? The reality TV nominees were...
Starting point is 00:28:55 There were several new shows nominated. Love is Blind. Cheer. We're here. Tiger King. Huh. Where am I... I'm trying to look for, like, a complete list. I that's what I was just on.
Starting point is 00:29:07 It's just so hard to get to what you're actually looking for. I was going through the makeup nominations and it was going on for a long time. Yeah, I just don't really see where I can find these, find this really quickly. If cheer is on the list, I'm rooting for that. It may not be, but I'm ready for cheer. Yeah, I think that's got to be something, that's got to be something else, maybe some other, because, oh, no, I was looking at whatever reality,
Starting point is 00:29:35 competition, you know, how they do reality, the reality competition, um, category. That's what I was thinking of. But all of those Netflix documentary-esque series were all so good. So I would definitely love to see any of those, any of those win as well. It's interesting, you know, obviously that Quibi got so many nominations for short form. Well, for short, it is short form, but. Do you know which shows were nominated for Quibi?
Starting point is 00:30:02 Um, I, I know Caitlin Olson was nominated. I found it. Oh, yes. Best competition program. The Masked Singer nailed it. Rupal's Drag Race, Top Chef, and the Voice. Right. The Masked Singer getting nominated is...
Starting point is 00:30:18 People love that show. People love it. They do love that show. That is just kind of hilarious. I'm not going to lie. Yeah, I think it sucks, but, you know, people love it. Yep, definitely. And obviously, there's a ton.
Starting point is 00:30:34 That means there's tons. and tons of awards. So congratulations to everybody who was nominated. That is fantastic. Like I said, easily the person I'm happiest for Zendaya, Nicholas Braun. Top two, by far.
Starting point is 00:30:48 Like, everybody else, congratulations. But those were the two. Those two we are specifically rooting for. Specifically, so, so happy for. Right now we are smack in the middle of the summer. We are approaching August, and you're probably looking for some cool, shit to wear. And you know where you can find that at the store.barsall sports.com. Yep, we're talking about

We have comfy and classic tanks. We have brand new hats in the store. Starting point is 00:32:35 classic friday energy sweatshirts we have all of the cool tie-dye outer banks merch so don't forget about that stuff and go to store.barsallsports.com to shop now. We have watched a ton of TV in quarantine, but there is one show that skipped by us and we just watched it recently and it's selling sunset. What a gem. I wish I watched it sooner, but I'm actually happy that I didn't because I had a nice little treat as a little surprise show that I, one that I did not watch at this time and I finally got to it and I loved it. I told Fran, Fran, you got to watch selling sunset you're going to love it too and here we are we both love it definitely i think that one super easy watch you know eight only eight episodes in the season they go by pretty
Starting point is 00:33:22 quick and i guess i should have just never really looked into it that much like i didn't really i didn't realize the drama aspect to it i thought it was more of just a selling properties type of situation, you know, and didn't realize the, the, the, catiness that would happen with this, with these, with these women. But it was, it was quite a journey. One and two, watched it so fast. Like Ria said, she watched it, told me to watch it. Um, these women are awesome and just wild to watch all at the same time.
Starting point is 00:34:08 Gotta say the Abboton group, Shout out. Shout out those short kings. They are living. They are living a life, Brett and Jason. And they are truly, like, if you were looking for the definition of short king, I feel like it's Brett and Jason. They have it all.
Starting point is 00:34:27 They are surrounded by all these beautiful women. They are like, it seemed like they're bachelors forever. And both of them are too scared to be tied, tied down ever. And they're just living there. life the best they can at, you know, at the height that they're at. And they're short. They're just short. That's plain and simple. We just have to preface how short they are because when you watch the show, it's jarring when you see them next to the other women. And maybe because the women are in heels and it just makes them look shorter. No offense, any short guys out there, they just look extremely
Starting point is 00:35:04 short. But listen, they got a great thing going for them. They got this great group. They're millionaires. They're doing well. They got a TV show. They're doing just fine, being the hype that they are. So good for them. I want to talk about season one and season two because those were both released in a short amount of time, which I love. I love that Netflix gave us season one and two so quick. And season right after that. I think selling sunset came out in whatever it was March, maybe. I have no idea, but I think it was fairly recent. Yeah. And they've already... It was definitely filmed a long... I feel like it was definitely filmed a while ago. First season was definitely a... a couple years ago. But they put it out and season three, who, what show have you ever heard of puts out three seasons within one year? Selling sunset. Yeah. So I thank them for that. Yep. Season one and season two are different because Chrisel, who is the new beyond the block in season one, finally, you know, makes her way around. The first season is about her, you know, becoming accustomed to the group and becoming friends with the girls and just everyone getting, getting to know each other and us getting to know them.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Season two, Criselle is finally in the group and is a little too comfortable and shit hits the fan, obviously. I want to know who your favorites are. Who don't you like? Where's your cut at? My number one, Maya. Love Maya. I think she's hilarious.
Starting point is 00:36:31 I think she dips her toes in like just the right amount of drama. She just knows everything that's going on. I thought it was really sweet to see her journey becoming a mother and, you know, she does this bi-coastal life or her husband is in Miami. And she's just hilarious. She has her, she has that great accent. Every time she says like, you know, some kind of saying or whatnot, like, when she's just, be there or be square. Like, she's just, I thought she was very entertaining, very cool. And then I do really like, I do really like, I do. like Mary a lot and I do like
Starting point is 00:37:09 Michelle a lot. The rest are all kind of up in the air. I don't know how I feel about Christine. I just don't know. At first I was like, ooh, is she going to be like so bad that I love her? Or is she going to be so bad that
Starting point is 00:37:26 I can't stand her? And I don't know. It kind of felt somewhere in between. Like, I sort of respect her and she's very much you know, stuck to her being herself. but the saying shit about people and then trying to like give these heartfelt genuine apologies after you do that, you know, three or four times in one show, it's, it feels a little
Starting point is 00:37:51 ridiculous. I agree with you. I think that we are on the same page on who we like and dislike, except I like Heather too. Something about Heather, I just, I'm like, okay, she's whatever. I like her. Maya is great because she has one-liners and she's not really involved too much in the drama, but she gives her input. Grishell, I like. Mary, I like, except sometimes Mary
Starting point is 00:38:14 annoys me when she's with Jason, who she once dated, and then she's like, doesn't understand that her new husband doesn't want her to get married at Jason's house. I'm like, are you kidding me? Of course, he's being right about this. Like, you dated him. Why would you want to get married at your ex-boyfriend's house? It feels like a bad vibe for the marriage. So weird, weird vibe between the two of them. Mary and Jason. Right. And they're always flirting with each other.
Starting point is 00:38:42 I'm like, listen, Mary, you could do better than Jason. Even though Jason, great guy, like I said, it just, it doesn't seem right to me as him watching the show. Yeah. They have a weird guy. She married that French hunk. Right. It just is a weird, a weird vibe that they have.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Yeah. Yeah. Christine, I felt the same way I was like, am I going to like Christine? Is this like a Stasi type of character where she's, a little bit evil, but you're kind of laughing and she's also a bad bitch at the same time. No, I don't feel that way about her. I don't really like her at all. She annoys me. She makes me angry. Sometimes I like her. Sometimes she'll get a chuckle out of me because I feel like she's playing up for the camera and she knows she's on a reality TV show. So she knows what she has to do. So in that sense,
Starting point is 00:39:28 I do respect her. But there's just some things that she says and things that she does that just aggravates me so much. He thinks she is just the best person to walk the planet Earth. And I'm like, you're not. But okay, fine, Christine, if you want to act that way. And the way she acted towards Chrisel and her and DeVina, that first fight in season one, DeVina gets on my nerves so much. She just puts me off. By far. So bottom of the list. Like, she is just the last person on the list. Sorry, DeVina. She just, she just, like, mean. She seems rude and mean. Right. And she's like, oh, you hate me because I'm honest. And it's like there's a difference between being honest and then just being straight up mean and you're just mean. Like that's really it. So even though Christine gets on
Starting point is 00:40:15 my nerves, I can see why she kind of makes the show in a sense. Like they need Christine on the show to get that drama going to get that back and forth going. She's not as mean. There's no no. No. No. There's no like there's no show. Nobody carries the show like Christine does, even if she could be annoying and rude and mean she carries the show. Devina on the other hand can get off the show and I wouldn't care. She's just rude. Right. Right. So I do, you know, I like, I'm trying to think who else I like. I like Mary, like I said. Yeah. And Heather is just kind of like, yeah, whatever. But the second season where they all got into that fight with Mary, I thought was so ridiculous. I was on Mary and Chrisel's side because I just thought what Christine was doing was ridiculous.
Starting point is 00:41:06 Yeah. I agree with you. And I think, like, Christine is definitely vital to this show and for the drama. She's very Chloe-like. Like, without Chloe and Ciesa-Kee, a lot of the drama doesn't happen. Right. It's, you know, you need somebody who whispers in everybody's ear. Like, you knew.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Like, Christine knows. that to create good drama on her show, she's going to go to Davina and tell Davina before everybody else that she's not invited to Mary's wedding just to, like, you know, blow everything up and create all the drama. That's very fair.
Starting point is 00:41:46 And I felt bad for Mary in that whole thing because she was in such a tough spot. Romaine felt very strongly about it. Like, talk about a guy, Like, I thought he was just going to sail through being on this show after the first season. I was like, oh, okay, you know what? He's going to, he proposed. That's nice.
Starting point is 00:42:08 He seems so harmless. Come the second season, he sees what DeVina said about the ring. And he's like, I don't give a fuck. I hate like, he was like, he dropped so many. He's like, I fuck this, fuck that. Like, I don't fucking water at my wedding. Like, the whole thing, I was like, whoa, buddy. I did enjoy that it came out of a show because it added a different dynamic to the show.
Starting point is 00:42:34 I also felt bad for Heather because they were at her showing when they caused all this drama. It was embarrassing for the other people to be around. Now, let's talk about Chris Lowe because she is new to the show. She mentions how she is married to Justin Hartley, who has been on the show before. Shout out Justin Hartley. She's married to Justin. She's new to the real estate. Well, not new to the real estate.
Starting point is 00:42:58 She's new to this firm, and people are informing up to her, and she's very nice and very friendly. And her and Christine have this relationship where, you know, at first they were not friends. And then they kind of made up because Christine apologized to Cichelle. And then Christine got engaged randomly in the middle of season one and season two, ended up inviting Creschelle to the engagement party. And Cichelle said to her face, listen, I would feel fake if I showed up to your party, which I 100% respected. And she sent her flowers that night to her party, which was really nice, but she didn't go.
Starting point is 00:43:33 And I thought that was just very real of Griselle when people say that she's so fake and that she's two-faced. I thought that was so real being like straight up, I'm not going to come to your party because, listen, I didn't really like you. I'm now just warming up to you. I don't love you yet. It's going to be fake if I show up because I don't even know you or your fiancé. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:43:55 I also respect Chrisel for that move. like she knows that Christina is going to be an issue or that Christine's going to stir up drama. So she's like kind of keeping her at arm's length. I think she's super sweet. Every time she gets a listing, I'm like, oh, God, I hope she sells this one. Like, I just wanted to do so well in the firm. Even though I don't like Davina, I would love for her to sell that $75 million property just to shove it in the short king's faces. because I don't like the way they talk to the girls sometimes.
Starting point is 00:44:30 I feel like they're a little condescending. And, you know, there's a lot of times where they have discussions with the girls where like it's not a discussion. It's like they ask a question and they just, I feel like they sometimes talk down to them, which is ha-ha hilarious because they have to their look up. Yeah. And I understand it's like their firm. It's their business.
Starting point is 00:44:52 They're the bosses and everything. But sometimes they're a little harsh. and I feel like they, you know, don't maybe, it's like their way or no way, you know, there's not a lot of compromise. So I do hope DeVina does get something with that. We didn't really see at the end. That $40 million property did sell, I believe they had said. I love seeing the houses.
Starting point is 00:45:15 That's like another aspect of this that is so cool. Like these houses are so awesome. It makes me want to move to California so bad. Like I just, you know, obviously I can't. Ford, a house like that. But one can dream. Like, I just want to live in a cool house in California and have one of these people, Cichelle, sell me a house or Heather, whoever it is. Like, that's the goal. And like you said, DeBina, yes, I even though don't like her, 100% with you that I want her to sell this home just to shove it up their asses because they are being very annoying
Starting point is 00:45:50 about it. Yeah, definitely. And I will say also, I think that the, oh, shoot, what was was I going to say. It was something about selling the homes, staging the homes. Oh, no. It's gone. It's gone. You lost it? You lost it?
Starting point is 00:46:08 I lost it. I lost it. It was there. And it's gone. But yeah, I think it's going to be interesting to see this third season. Obviously, we know that she and Chriselle and Justin Hartley are now divorced. It seems like. that is going to be a big part of this whole thing.
Starting point is 00:46:31 It's crazy because I feel like we've seen three years or at least two years in these seasons and it kind of all blends together because I've looked at Mary's Instagram the other day or I think it was only a few weeks ago that she had posted about celebrating her one year wedding anniversary. So, you know, that's already the end of season two, that's already a year gone. so there's a lot to catch up on. Obviously, we're going to see a lot of drama come season three. Is Christine married?
Starting point is 00:47:02 I have no idea. I haven't done enough research. I probably could find out. I don't want to do the research because I want to be surprised on the show. That's why I haven't followed them on Instagram yet. I haven't looked at their social media because I want to be surprised watching the TV show because I feel like with reality TV nowadays, a lot of it gets spoiled from seeing stuff on social media. And since I never followed them in the first place, I'm like, listen, I'm not going to follow them
Starting point is 00:47:25 now. I'm going to wait till after and then I won't see anything. As for Krochelle and Justin, I thought it was kind of weird that when she went to Mary's wedding, Justin wasn't even there as a guest with her. Maybe he really just didn't want to be on the show in general. Maybe that was a point of contention because it shocked me that he wasn't shown at all. And listen, he didn't sign up for it. I understand that. The other people, significant others did kind of sign on to be a part of the show or whatever it is. But noticing her show up to events and not having like her husband with her made me kind of sad, even though it is a show. So we will see what happens. We'll see it all fall out on season three. I know. I felt we're so bad for her. There's like one clip in the preview of
Starting point is 00:48:08 her asking like if she had seen it coming and it seems like she was totally blindsided by it. So just we'll see all of it unfold, like you said. And yeah, I mean, Heather just had some big relationship news that I saw that. I don't know if you saw. I won't mention it if you don't want to. No, we talked about it. I told you I used to watch the show and she looks exactly like the guy's ex-wife. Yes, yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:48:37 And now they're engaged. And Tarek. It's blowing my mind because she looks identical to his ex-wife. wife. I used to watch the show and I am blown away that he just, like, they look so similar. They look. He's got a type clearly. Very clearly has a type. Like, Oh. I remember what I was going to say, but continue her. Do you know what his ex-wife, Christina, looks like? I do not. I have never seen her. Please look her up right now. So you, so you can be like, wow, that is actually identical to Heather. Because it's, um, okay.
Starting point is 00:49:15 It's concerning. Like, I understand they're happy together, but I hate when people... I know. I hate when people go to, like, an identical twin. Like, yes, another blonde, fine. But they straight up look exactly alike. Yeah, they do look very, very similar. And I think that this is just speculation,
Starting point is 00:49:37 but I think Heather has maybe gotten some work done or fillers or something because the pictures I see of Heather now, she looks very different than she did in the first season. And I think that there's been a lot of speculation that she has, she's like slowly turning into the ex-wife that they're just looking more and more similar as the days go by. It's freaky. Like I said, if you want to date blondes, that's your type. Go for it.
Starting point is 00:50:05 But not all blondes have, it's freaky. Not all blondes have the same face. These two, their faces are eerily similar. Yeah, yeah. they they really do look very similar um i remember what i wanted to say the only thing the only complaint that i wish there was a way around i know there's not is that i wish we knew what like celebrities they were trying to buy and sell houses for it you know you know how they're like oh we have the nda we can't i'm looking for a celebrity buyer celebrity seller i'm like oh just tell me who it is
Starting point is 00:50:38 right just whisper give us initials i like that tay diggs was on it love i was going to say the same thing That was awesome. Like, have more of that. I would love seeing them, like, sell to celebrities. And the vibe of his house was so fucking cool. I was so jealous. I know. Well, Tay Diggs.
Starting point is 00:50:55 What a cool guy that he is, you know? Smooth cat. Super smooth cat. And that house, I hope he bought that house because it really felt like a good house for him. So, yeah, that's truly my only complaint is, like, I wish they're, when they drop these, like, celebrity clients that we could see more of them. obviously, and you know it's funny because you know some celebrities are like, no, I don't want to be mentioned on your show. And some are like, have no problem with it. Like, Larca Pippin, no problem
Starting point is 00:51:24 with it. She was like, oh, I'll be on the show. I'm not going to lie. I rolled my eyes when I saw Larsa. Larsa. Because she wasn't interested at the house. She wasn't buying the house. But it just made so much sense also. Like it was like, of course, Larsa. Oh, Larson Pippins stopped being friends with the Kardashians. So she didn't. She needs a little more shine, so she went on selling sunset. Yeah. We didn't even talk about that, by the way, that there were rumors that Larsa Pippen and Tristan Thompson slept together.
Starting point is 00:51:51 And I was just swept under the rug. Not that we would ever know the truth. So it is what it is. But it seems like she is on the outs with the family. So whatever, take that as you will. I've been down so long and looked like up to me. They look up to me. I got fake people showing fake love to me.
Starting point is 00:52:11 Straight up to my face. Straight up to my face. I've been down so long and looked like gun to me. They look good to me. I got fake people. So some crazy Riverdale news, Vanessa Morgan, one of the stars of the show, she announced her pregnancy recently. You know, she posted a whole nice Instagram.
Starting point is 00:52:42 She's having a boy. It was really, really sweet. And then, like, the next day or in the following days, it came out that her husband, Michael Copac, who's a pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, filed for divorce. Now, they have been together eight months, seven months, six months, six months. I'm not together longer than that, but they were. Didn't they get married in January?
Starting point is 00:53:10 I think they got married in January, yes. So pretty, pretty crazy story. all around. We don't really have any details of what happened. Michael Copac might be a familiar name to some of those because he also dated Breel Beerman in the past. And then I think they, you know, they weren't together for that long. He started dating Vanessa Morgan after Breel and they got married in January 2020. Oh no. You want to hear a quote that's going to make you laugh?
Starting point is 00:53:56 Yeah. So when they got married, I guess they did a podcast together called the White Sox Talk podcast. And Vanessa had said, I feel like he's my twin flame. I think the stars aligned. Oh, no. Is that the kiss of death? Saying somebody's your twin flame? Oh, no. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:54:24 Ooh. Yikes. Yikes. Listen, I was rooting for MGK and Megan Fox, but after hearing these two people were married for six months, and they're getting a divorce. Yeah. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:54:38 And on top of that, she's pregnant. She announced her pregnancy on Instagram a few days ago, and I just think that this is a whirlwind that is, going to be very hard for Vanessa Morgan. I'm rooting for her, and I'm rooting for her to make it out of this happy and healthy and strong because getting divorced while also finding out that you were pregnant can't be the best of emotions. It really can't be. Let's be honest. Bringing a baby into this world is a beautiful thing. It is. But when you're also being divorced, like somebody's,
Starting point is 00:55:13 somebody's divorcing you. You didn't even file divorce. They filed against you. The, dress on top of being pregnant, that could not be good. It's incredibly bittersweet. I feel so bad. My heart goes out to her. This was a crazy two years almost exactly. So it was confirmed that they started dating in July of 2018, Vanessa and Kopec. And then they, he proposed a year later, July 2019.
Starting point is 00:55:47 They got married. January 2020. Their wedding was absolutely beautiful, by the way. I don't know if anybody saw. Like, they had this beautiful, like, forest fairy wedding that was stunning. The whole, everything was so, so beautiful. It was really small. It was only 40 guests. And then we haven't really seen anything from them. Like, she last posted with him in April, wishing him a happy birthday. And then he opted out of the baseball season. So he's, you know, he was not playing. He decided to opt out.
Starting point is 00:56:30 And two weeks later after that, Vanessa announces that she's pregnant. Did not, he, Michael was nowhere to be seen in that announcement, obviously. And then three days after that, the Chicago Tribune said that they had split and that he, had filed for divorce in Texas on June 19th. So he filed for divorce on June 19th. She posted a picture of the positive pregnancy test and from May. So right, because she was pregnant in May. Yeah, yeah, you wait a while, obviously. You don't announce pregnancy until three months. Yes, of course. And it was also a reveal like she knew that she was having a boy. So it's just crazy because that all happened before she announced any of that.
Starting point is 00:57:19 So, you know, she finds out she's pregnant in May. And then her husband files for divorce June 19th. And there has been some rumors that maybe he wasn't the father of the baby. Craziness going around. But Vanessa's rep has confirmed that he is the father of the child. So that's, I mean, people were like, it's because he's not the dad, like ripping Vanessa apart. And I saw a lot.
Starting point is 00:57:45 you know, sports fans can be crazy. I saw a lot of, like, White Sox fans going after her, giving her shit and, like, for hurting their, quote, their pitcher. Like, even Madeline Pesh commented at some guy who was like, you know, leave our picture out of this, or some stupid comment. And Madeline was like, all of these comments are insane. I can't believe you would treat this woman like this. So.
Starting point is 00:58:10 I agree. And it's crazy that automatically they're like, he's not the father. It's like, what do you know? No, that is off a baseless assumption. And I'm also, listen, we don't know anything about the relationship, but I'm speculating here. Yeah. No matter how bad, or, I mean, I guess there's some circumstances that you would want to get out of the relationship as soon as possible. But considering he's filing and he knew that she's pregnant.
Starting point is 00:58:39 Yeah. I'm just like, you don't want to try and stick it out and see what happens. Like, you know what I mean? like you got married in January, right? That's when we're saying they got married. Yeah, yeah, they got married in January, yeah. It hasn't even been a year. And this happens a lot where people will get divorced less than a year, but it blows my mind every time. I'm just like, you didn't want to stick it out for one year. I mean, you got married. You liked each other enough to get married. You don't like each other enough to feel it out and say, hey, let's, let's take it easy. Like,
Starting point is 00:59:10 you're having a baby. Maybe we need to figure this out and not rush into a divorce right away. And maybe I need to be there for you when you're pregnant and having my child. Like I just, and listen, like I said, I don't know anything about the relationship. So maybe something horrible did happen. And he was like, I really want out of this relationship. But on the outside looking in, you're just like, why now? Why couldn't you just try a little bit harder? Yeah, it is.
Starting point is 00:59:36 Anytime you see, obviously, a short marriage like this, it's, you question like, wow, why even get married? in the first place. But I guess you never know. I guess if you try and you know, boy, maybe you just wake up one day and you're like, I made the fucking wrong decision. And it just hits you.
Starting point is 00:59:58 I feel like there could be a lot going on with him, just, you know, with him opting out of the season. And I also feel like with these celebrity relationships and spending so much time in quarantine together for a lot of these couples, this is also speculation as well, but they were so busy as a couple when they were dating. She's filming Riverdale, she's traveling.
Starting point is 01:00:23 He's a professional baseball player. I feel like they probably didn't have that much quality time together, just the two of them. And then this year happens, and maybe they were actually living in the same house for an extended period of time, and we're just like, oh, this is, this is not going to work. Or maybe he just totally blindsided her, which,
Starting point is 01:00:49 which is devastating to think about because that is just awful. So I don't know. Yeah. I mean, we're never going to know the real reason, but I'm just like, I don't understand. You got married that short about a time. And I get it like, yeah, I don't really get it obviously because I'm not in their shoes. And we are not like celebrities where they're, They have such a busy schedule that even when they do get married or when they're in the relationships, they're not spending 24-7 with their significant others. They're not spending as much time as we are with hours. So for me, I was like, quarantine was great. Like, me and Hank had a great time every day together. Like, we didn't really fight at all. It was fantastic. And then other people
Starting point is 01:01:29 who don't spend as much time together as we do, and they figure out what it's like to actually be with that person all the time. They're like, fuck this. Yeah, could be the end. So I don't know. if Michael did kind of pull this out of whatever thin air, then that really sucks. I feel very bad for Vanessa. But on the same time, she does seem very, very happy about this baby,
Starting point is 01:01:55 which is amazing. And you can only hope that she and this baby are, you know, okay. She's got a good support system around her. I feel like those Riverdale kids will protect her, you know? Yeah. They'll raise the baby together. That would be something. If you guys didn't know,
Starting point is 01:03:03 Varsal has teamed up with new Amsterdam vodka to officially create a signature drink. It is called the Pink Whitney. It was created by the Spit and Checklets crew and the result is a smooth vodka infused with fresh pink lemonade flavor. This vodka is fantastic. We have it all the time.
Starting point is 01:03:22 It is great for all occasions. And it's perfect for the summertime. It's a perfect light drink, really, really good. And if you can't find a bottle of Pink Whitney yet, head over to your local liquor store and ask them directly to get some bottles in stock or in participating markets. Starting point is 01:04:05 We are here with a very special guest, Dove Cameron. Welcome to the show. Thank you guys so much for having me. How are you both? Fran. Go ahead. Fran looked like she was geared up for like a deep breath. I know.
Starting point is 01:04:20 And then we both did the same thing. But we're both great. I'll answer for the both of us. Yeah, we can't complain right now. We've both been, you know, chilling inside, doing our thing. How's quarantine life been for you? You know, honestly, I feel like I've had a million lives in this quarantine. Do you feel like that? Like, I feel like at first I was like, oh, no, this is going to be so awful.
Starting point is 01:04:41 And then I was like, you know what? I kind of feel like I'm finding a group with this. And then I went through a phase where it was awful again. And now I'm like, I don't remember ever there being any time before this. Do you know what I mean? I'm like, maybe this is always the thing. It honestly feels like another lifetime. Like March, April, May, each month feels like it's been years in between. It's just, at this point, I'm like, this is life. Like, we've just got to accept
Starting point is 01:05:07 that this is what this is. Yeah. Yeah. It's been very, it's been very bizarre, hasn't it? It has. Yeah. I look back at pictures from March of when we had first kind of, we both live in Manhattan, but I had left Manhattan. So when I had first left and was like, that, that's a different girl. That girl is an entirely different person. I don't even recognize her anymore. It's crazy. Go ahead, Ria. I'll bring this up now since we're talking about the beginning of quarantine. Okay, very weird. You may be creeped out. But Valentine's Day, I'm pretty sure we had the same exact date because I walked into a restaurant and I was like, oh my God, I think that stuff carries. Cameron. And I was like, I'm not exactly sure. And like, we're both with our boyfriends and I don't want to
Starting point is 01:05:58 be weird. So I was like, I'm not going to say anything. Wait, wait. I'm going to say something way creepier. What were you wearing? Um, I don't even remember now. Were you wearing yellow? Yes, yes. Yes. I was wearing a yellow shirt. I have a picture proving I was wearing a yellow shirt. I fully saw you. And I was like, oh my God, she's so cute. And then just, just, I was just. just like went about my life. I remember you. Wow, that is a goddamn honor that you saw me because I was wearing a yellow shirt and the fact that you remember that is amazing. But yes, I was like, I texted Fran too. I was like, I think I saw Dove Cameron, but I'm not 100% sure and I don't want to bother her. That's too funny. And then I looked back on your Instagram and you posted a picture of your
Starting point is 01:06:45 meal and I was like, yeah, I ate that. The heart. That's so funny. Oh my God, that's too weird. Do you know why? We ended up going there because it was like one of the only places, like, open. Yeah, and it was near Times Square because we were going to see mean girls on Broadway. And we went to go see Book of Mormon. That's so cute. Oh, my God. That is so funny.
Starting point is 01:07:07 That is amazing. Yeah, I was like, before this interview, I was like, I don't know if I should bring this up, but I think I'm going to bring it up because it's been weighing heavy, weighing heavy on my mind since it happened. It turns out I'm way creepier than even you thought because I remember what you were wearing. So you're fine, you're in the clear. That makes fantastic. That makes this whole thing even better. Absolutely, because Ria was like,
Starting point is 01:07:29 I don't want to creep her out and be like, I remember seeing you, but even creepiness on both sides, it's perfect. It's a match made in heaven. Yeah, that is really amazing. I mean, it was our first Valentine's Day together, so next time we're going to have to meet up for our second Valentine's Day. Yes, of course, just as our anniversary.
Starting point is 01:07:48 Our anniversary is so cute. I can't believe it's on Valentine's. Day, like, what an honor. What an honor. One of those cheesy couples who has their anniversary on Valentine's Day. I love it. hilarious. Well, you just released a new song called We Belong.
Starting point is 01:08:03 We absolutely love it. And I just want to know what was the writing process like? Why did you decide to release it now? It's also being used in a trailer for a new movie coming out. So I want to know all about it. Yeah. So We Belong was one of those. It was like a sort of,
Starting point is 01:08:21 I mean, it was a faster process than a lot of my other songs. We were writing it. Sorry, can you hear that? I live in a very busy part of the city. Okay, we live in Manhattan, so we're used to it. Up and to us all the time. We, the song, okay, so the song for me, I feel like every time you write with co-writers,
Starting point is 01:08:43 obviously the song is about different things for everybody. But the song for me is very much a love song, and it's very much about that kind of like young love young like that kind of like super like hot and heavy like lustful like you can't think about anything other than your person whoever that is for you so much so that you're like I know that I need my space I know I need my independence I'm an independent bitch but like I but I also I'm like sitting here you know being like so I got my space and like all I can think about is you and you're just like so messed up over this person.
Starting point is 01:09:21 And that's definitely like been my experience in relationships. I'm so all in or or not at all. Like if I'm not so crazy obsessed with the person, I'm like single. Like why would I want to be with someone I don't feel that way about? So I feel like my experience in relationships has been so like, um, like I have my own life.
Starting point is 01:09:39 But then I'll be like, should I just hop on a flight and fly all the way across the country tomorrow and cancel everything that I'm doing? Yeah. So that's kind of like, that's kind of what we belong is about is. just that feeling of being so messed up over somebody, whoever that is to you, like whoever you love. And it just, we've recorded it like almost a year ago.
Starting point is 01:10:00 And it was one of my favorites, production-wise, that I've done. And when basically what happened was after came to us and wanted to option so good, one of my older singles for the soundtrack. They wanted to put it on the soundtrack, And then they came back to us a couple months later and they were like, what else do you have that's unreleased? And I guess my label sent them a bunch of myself.
Starting point is 01:10:25 And they basically chose we belong way after it was written. And they were like, can we use this in the trailer? And we were like, yeah, absolutely. I don't think we would have released it for quite a while had it not been for after wanting to use it in the trailer. That's amazing. And I love one of the last lines, or maybe it is the last line of the song that was like, bang, bang, I'm alerted to everyone but you.
Starting point is 01:10:51 And I just thought that was a perfect way to end the song because I was like, is this about to go into another verse? But then it ended. And I was like, what a fire line to end on. Yeah, I feel like we can all relate to that feeling of being like, do I just like hate everybody but you? Absolutely. Am I just like, yeah, I feel like I'm so one of those people
Starting point is 01:11:11 when I'm like first dating someone. I'm like, I only want to see you and nobody else. Yeah, I think we all get that feeling. absolutely. I feel like, and it's crazy because, you know, during this time, and Ria and I have talked about this a lot, because we have both been quarantined with our, with our boyfriend. So like, I feel like it either goes so good or it could be so bad if you don't spend, you know, maybe that much time together. Now all of a sudden, you're, you're in this, in this place. How has quarantine been for you guys? Like, is it just, is it, I feel like for a lot of couples, hopefully it brings
Starting point is 01:11:47 you closer together. Yeah, I mean, we, we have always had a really, like, healthy relationship where, like, we can spend 24, seven together and we just kind of become more, like, in sync, if that makes sense. So we've always had that. And so then I think, like, the five months of uninterrupted quarantine were easy in that sense. But then also, like, this is not what he. are made to do. Like you're just not meant to see, you're not meant to not be alone for five months
Starting point is 01:12:23 straight. At least I'm not. Like, I think some people really have a problem being alone, but like, both my partner and I are, you know, we like, we like our alone time as much as we like being together. So, like, I definitely feel like you have to work to build in some independence and be like, okay, I'm going to do this thing and I'm going alone, you know? Like, I feel like it was like, I'm going to go work out and I'm doing it alone and like things like that. But like once you kind of find your rhythm, I think we found it quite nice. Like I don't know.
Starting point is 01:12:54 We're just pretty compatible though. So I definitely feel like I know all of my friends are like, well, if we broke up, I'm like, yeah. I'm like, it'll do that. I feel like this is just such an unnatural environment, you know. Yeah. And you always feel bad when you're like, oh, we're doing great. Somebody else's like, this is fucking miserable.
Starting point is 01:13:12 And you're just like, you kind of feel guilty being like, We're actually having a fun time. Do you guys live together? Yeah, we live together. We've lived together for like a year and a half, two years now? Yeah, same. And I feel like it's like the thing when people talk about when, you know, you want to watch a TV show and the other person doesn't want to watch a TV show.
Starting point is 01:13:32 It's like, that's fine. You watch your TV show. I'll watch my TV show. And we don't have to do that together. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I think in some ways it almost like encourages a little bit of your own sense of self if you live with somebody because you actually have.
Starting point is 01:13:45 have to separate some of what you're doing from what they're doing and do a lot of like parallel play which is quite nice. I think it's been it's been good for us. Yeah, that's amazing. Well, Dove, we follow, we have followed your career for a long time. We're big fans. We, um, thank you. We have talked about, you know, kind of paying attention to all things Disney, even when like, maybe we have aged out a little bit, but we don't care because it's just a child's taste. It's we exactly. You just never age out. It's fantastic. We've talked about the descendants,
Starting point is 01:14:19 so many great things that you've done. What was it like kind of entering into the Disney family and kind of like getting your start with Disney? Really fast. I guess I would say really fast. It was very like, I guess, like how you would think, like being an outsider, probably how you would think. It would be, at least before I was on the channel,
Starting point is 01:14:42 it was kind of how I thought it would be. but at the same time really not how you think like it's really not as much of a machine as people think um and it's really not as like of a controlled environment as much as people think um and i mean i guess i don't know like i guess if i was maybe a bit more like oh like i want to go do whatever like rebelle yes yeah yeah right maybe maybe then i would feel more more like controlled um but i i've never I've never been that, really that type of person. So I don't know, it was always really chill. It was always really like, they kept me busy for sure.
Starting point is 01:15:18 Like, I think I definitely worked a lot more hours than, like, my peers, because it is a lot of hard work to be on the Disney Channel, more so than you would ever think, because it just got so many, like, extremities. Do you know what I mean? Like, there's the branch, and then you have all the baby branches where, like, you're like, oh, my God, these girls from Disney, they pop up in Japan. They pop up in France. They pop up in the UK.
Starting point is 01:15:40 and like we are we really have to go and like it takes time do you know what I mean like it's very time consuming to be on a platform that is so global um but it's definitely really good training um and they really prepare you to be like a hard worker for the rest of your career um and they really they test you a lot you know like they stretch your abilities um and you know obviously it's a kid's network so like it's not it's not stretching all of your abilities but it is definitely like hey like this you're doing this and you have to like adapt and and that was really that was really good for me. I think it was almost sort of like an accelerated college degree. Right.
Starting point is 01:16:19 And you played live and Maddie. You played both parts. So that alone is probably so much more work than your average person on Disney Channel. Just because you are playing two roles at once. How was that? Even though, you know, it's been some time since that show has ended, what would you say is the hardest part about playing two roles at once? I would say a lot of it is practical.
Starting point is 01:16:45 Like a lot of what people, because we, Disney Channel, so the way that they work is they have, they have five day work weeks just for the series. So like on the weekend, you'll be doing like music or you'll be doing traveling or you'll do promotion or things like that, but you only shoot the series five days a week. So the path, like, model that they have is you get the script and you do your table read and your first rehearsal on Monday and then you rehearse and have a run through on Tuesday and you have your final rehearsal and run through on Wednesday and then you shoot
Starting point is 01:17:16 Thursday Friday and that's fine and it works for everybody except when you're shooting double the amount and so that was I think a bit of a learning curve was we only we got the same amount of time as every other show and the same amount of resources when really we need a double and that that in and of itself
Starting point is 01:17:33 is just hard like it's hard to be shooting at such a rapid pace it's hard the additional like to shoot a scene and then you would have to go on a lock off, which like they lock the cameras. And because if you imagine if you're laying over two videos, the cameras can't move, like in order to make the twin gag work. Yeah. And so it's a very, it was a very different kind of set than the other than the other sets.
Starting point is 01:17:55 And then we come back and we shoot it all twice and we try to match it to our best ability. And it's a lot of like physical work. It's a lot of not crossing barriers and things like that. And then just keeping the twin's personality straight. But it was, if you came into like a rhythm with it, like it was after why it was pretty much second major. It's honestly just really impressive, so props to you. No, thanks. Yes. And so the last, I think the last thing you did with Disney was Descendants 3, right? Yeah. And do you plan on doing more with them? Or are you going to do other things? Because I saw that you announced a new film, Isaac, which looks totally different than anything else you've done. It's like eerie, but it's cool.
Starting point is 01:18:34 Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. It's the first. question I mean, I mean, Descendants very much I think was meant to be a trilogy. I think that they really crammed everything
Starting point is 01:18:47 into that last film in an effort to tie up all the loose ends for the fans and answer all the questions that they had and, you know, we kind of did it all.
Starting point is 01:18:56 Like, I think that if there was to be anything, it would be fun to do like a sort of a follow-up maybe like a wedding special. Obviously, I mean, I feel like this isn't really
Starting point is 01:19:06 a spoiler at this point, but like obviously they're going to, get married and it's like the royal wedding and the whole thing um but i don't know i really also feel like obviously like it would be really really hard on the cast to do a film without cameron um i think that's all something where like if there's a part of us that it would feel i'm sure there's a part that would feel very healing and very much like we're coming home because the series was so important to us at such a pivotal point in our lives personally much less um you know publicly or
Starting point is 01:19:38 or career-wise, like, I think the films to all four of us and everybody else, mostly the four of us because we were really the ones who, like, started youngest. To us, it's a very much, like, a personal kind of an experience, as funny as that probably sounds from the outside. And so I think it would be healing to come back to it, sort of like a homecoming, but also I think it would be really hard. And I don't know if we would be up for it. I don't know how that would feel, but also,
Starting point is 01:20:08 know, it's a big, it's a big world. I hope that they continue it in some way, whether it's with us or not. Yeah. But, yeah. Yeah, and it has such a huge fan base, obviously. So in any way that it could continue to grow in some way, would be really cool.
Starting point is 01:20:24 You have done a lot of awesome stage stuff also, which, honestly, you have gotten to play some, like, truly iconic characters, whether it's, like, Amber, hairspray, share like you have done and I've what was you oh Sophie Mama Mia that was the other one so many amazing
Starting point is 01:20:45 female characters this could be impossible to answer but have you had a favorite one to play on stage it's really I don't know I feel like in the same way that like descendants is more personal than professional
Starting point is 01:21:02 stage is more for me about the show show necessarily than the character because I'm like such a stage freak. Like I just like love musical theater so much. Um, so I feel like, um, I don't know because like with hairspray, I feel like I could do that musical. That musical could sustain me for eight shows a week for like 10 years because it's so much fun. The show just feeds you.
Starting point is 01:21:32 Like the music, the music gives more food than it takes. Oh, yeah. So much. Because Amber is not like the most rewarding role. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like the show itself is so much fun. But also Mamma Mia is another one of those like, I know that it's not like, you know,
Starting point is 01:21:47 it's a jukebox musical, but it's so much to do. But honestly, my dream role was Clara in The Light and the Piazza, and I got to do that twice so far. And I'm, you know, I'm still like too young to be playing that role. So I hope to be able to continuously play it as I get older. That's awesome. It's their, they're all so cool, love. Hopefully, you know, you'll be able to get back on stage soon and have an audience and
Starting point is 01:22:16 and perform for people. Yeah, exactly, exactly. Because there really are so many, you've done so many cool things that have just been awesome. Thank you. Do you have any dreams to be on Broadway? Yeah, definitely. I definitely, I see a world in which we have a limited run of the light and the I see that world.
Starting point is 01:22:40 I don't know what the plan is around that, but that's definitely something that I don't think is out of the question. And that would be amazing because it's my dream role. And so to have my Broadway debut beat my dream role would be just incredible. I'd also, of course, love to do Wicked because I think that that's kind of just like one of those things that like I just, I don't know if I could like not. I don't know. It's such an iconic, like everything about.
Starting point is 01:23:07 it is so iconic that it's just like it. Yeah. I feel like you just that fits. Yeah, right. Yeah. We just have to do it for just like a couple months or something. It would be really like a dream come true. Aren't they doing the movie?
Starting point is 01:23:21 Wicked movie? Did I hear that or am I crazy? I don't know. Can't tell you. I don't know either. I think they've been doing that movie for like 10 years. So we'll see if it ever happens. But I think that that's been in the works.
Starting point is 01:23:34 Yeah. Right. For sure. And is there any? upcoming projects that you're working on obviously it's hard right now everyone's like on lockdown but is there anything that you're doing from your home yeah I mean other than other than the new song I have another song coming out really soon um that I can't I can't tell you really anything fun about it but it's it's it's it's hot it's like very soon um I was gonna say hot up the
Starting point is 01:24:03 process, who am I? So stupid. But yeah, I have a new song coming very soon, which I'm really, really, really excited about. It's one that I've been waiting to release for like, I don't know, almost two years now, which is crazy. And then I obviously have my new film, Isaac, coming out. And then I have another film coming out. I was in the middle of filming this film when we went on lockdown.
Starting point is 01:24:28 But yeah, I have a couple films coming out, new music, constant stream, and all rest, things like that. Yeah, which is amazing. Really exciting. You're doing it all. Yeah. Well, it's cool. It's cool to have like, I'm sure it's cool to have worked on all these songs, and it's been a while, and to finally be able to put them out to the world for everybody to hear has got to be, got to be great. And I also want to say, I know you have, like, you have such a massive social media following, which is really cool and obviously can be really hard. And I just want to say that I feel like you have done a really great job of like managing your social media presence. Like even just your Instagrams and whatnot like you um you have a voice and you use it which
Starting point is 01:25:16 not a lot of people do which is really cool. So I just wanted to give you some gives you some props for that. It's stuff like when you see like 37 million followers is a lot of people. Yeah. No it really is. And it's really it's a weird kind of like um there's a sort of like a there's like a there's like a discrepancy between like who you are to yourself and like who you know yourself to be that that is like unchanging and then this sort of like foreign oh then this sort of like foreign far away entity that is like the idea of all these people that like I'll never I'll never know like you know it doesn't it doesn't actually really touch my my personal life at all and so it's it's a bit strange to like you know it's a bit of like a daunting number like you said like it's it's not it's not
Starting point is 01:26:03 I wouldn't say that it's hard. I would say that it is interesting to navigate. Do you know what I mean? Like that kind of space where you want to be the best role model that you want to be, you know, like what I deem as somebody that I would have wanted to look up to, but that's really hard to fit for 37 million people, you know. And then you have to kind of be like, well, am I, you know, am I doing this for me or am I living for this?
Starting point is 01:26:33 and you have to like kind of constantly be checking where your motivation is coming from. It definitely keeps you, it keeps you like inquisitive. And that makes me happy that you think I've done a good job because it can feel a bit hard sometimes. You definitely have. And this is a question that's less serious, more about the technology of it. When you open up your Instagram, like, are you able to scroll or is it just notifications popping up constantly? Oh, God, how my notifications turned off years ago? Well, so I have mine shut off so it doesn't pop up on my phone.
Starting point is 01:27:07 But, like, how do you shut it off so that when you're on the app, they don't come up on that little, you know, like on the bottom when you go click the notifications? Oh, I think it always is. I think I just don't notice. Yeah. I don't think you can tell that off. That's what I was figuring. I was like, is there any way to shut that off? Because that must be even more annoying than we can even imagine.
Starting point is 01:27:26 No, it's fine. Just go numb to it at a certain point. Yeah. It's just like part of the app. Yeah. No, it is lovely, though. It is, like, lovely to feel like there are so many people that are so, like, supportive and kind.
Starting point is 01:27:37 It's, like, it's a positive thing. Yes. And if you are not one of those 37 million people following the dove, go follow her right now. Go stream her song, We Belong. Look out for her new song that is coming out soon that she won't tell us the name of, but she said it is hot. She said it is hot off the presses. So make sure you stream, stream, stream.
Starting point is 01:28:00 And we thank you so much for having. for coming on and I'll see you on Valentine's Day next year. I will see you for our anniversary. Thank you so much. Amazing. Thank you so much for having me. Bye. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:28:12 Bye. Bye. All right, that wraps up today's episode of Chicks in the Office. We hope you guys enjoyed it.
