I will say this

this is not a political statement from me. Like, I'm not like down. Like, that's not what I'm trying to say. And I've said multiple times, Sean Spicer seems like a very nice man. He's trying his best. That's all you can hope for on a show like this. What my problem is is with the show itself.

Like, I'm not boycotting Sean Spicer. I'm boycotting Danza with the Stars. Because Danza with the Stars has just set up this season for failure. And it's their fault that we are here. And it's their fault that the voting system is so corrupt and ass backwards that nobody on the West Coast can vote. You can only vote between 8 to 10. And it's just turned into a massive popularity contest. The dancing doesn't even matter at this point.

Like, Allie Brooke is so good. And she has been in the bottom two twice now with amazing scores. Monday night she was in the bottom two. She got all tens. Perfect score. All tens. And she was in the bottom two. She doesn't have the fan base voting for her.

She doesn't. Which is, you know, it is what it is. It's sad that is a popularity contest, but it's like what I said to you on radio the other day, which I'll say it again now. Say Kevin Jonas was on dancing with the stars because he has the least rhythm out of all of them. And he probably, you know, maybe he's not the best dancer.

And he goes on dancing with the stars and imagine he just sucks. Like he's just terrible. Right. You would still vote for him. So it's sad that it's a popularity contest, but it is what it is. That's why I'm calling for the vote. Like, I'm calling for the whole thing to just change.

Like they can't. we shouldn't be able to vote anymore. It should just be judges. They should have some other way of doing it. It doesn't make any sense anymore for like this dancing, for this dancing show because it's taken a turn. And I have said that I don't like that this show has gone political. I know people are like, oh, it's not Sean's fault.

It says that, okay, that's fine. And like I said, not knocking Sean because you see people who are really hating on him saying he's garbage, the whole thing. he's trying his best but he should be sent home because he is by far the worst dancer that is on the show right now so he should be sent home what sucks is that because he is so bad at dancing and because of the political affiliation that comes with him it's smashed into just like the worst thing ever because those who had the same political beliefs are supporting Sean based on that and then attacking everybody who says

Sean Spicer should be sent home because we're all angry liberals when in reality I'm just a dancing with the stars purists and I just like I'm solely basing on the dancing based on the dancing he should go home I would say it about you know if Kate Flannery was the worst dancer on the show

I would have been like oh my God it's time for her to go home like this is what's going on here it just sucks that Sean is the worst but he also has the whole political storyline that makes this whole thing so much more dramatic

and it's just tough to watch now I mean even Jenna was shocked that they were saved Jenna's not even his partner Lindsay's his partner but she had a family emergency so she couldn't be there so Jenna had to fill in

and even Jenna was shocked and it's just the judges are shocked every week Sean Spicer's probably going to win the show at this point. Just because I think he has the numbers and I don't know if any of these other contestants really have, really have the numbers. The only thing that I'm hoping is that maybe they go from voting for one white man to another white man and they just vote for James Vanderbyke because he's pretty good. Yeah, I mean, I don't watch. So I have literally no input whatsoever besides

the fact that, you know what, Fran, I stand with you. Yeah. And if you're done with Dan Took the Stars, you know what? Yeah, well, I won't watch either. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I'm watching for the rest of the season. You guys can tell me what's going on because I'll probably check to see like who gets sent home every week. But I will not, I will not tune my TV to that channel. You will not type in on your remote control. Watching ABC from 8 to 10 p.m. on Mondays. I hate that I just had remote control.

Are you a clicker person? No, I'm a remote person. Oh, oh, whoa, whoa. But remote control is just amountful. Just too much. Just knock it off. It's just remote. Okay.

When it goes to the Selena chorus, but with like the heavier beat of sorry, it is, it is so good. It's pretty much like, this hasn't been out for a little while now. It came out on October 27th, but it has 1.5 million views. And I feel like it's just going to keep going up and up. It was featured on, it was featured on E this week. So I feel like more and more people are, that's where we saw it. And holy crap, it is phenomenal. That means Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez are both going to see it.

Do you think that they're listening like, shit, this kind of sounds good. I know. What could have been? I can't believe in all the years that they were together. No duet. No. Sad. could have been great for their career. I mean, if we're going to, like maybe we just have to mash up their already existing songs

because this is killer. Yes, it is. Okay, we have two very exciting music news. One is that Harry Stiles album will be released on December 13th and it'll be called Fine Line and I am very excited, very excited. I, do we don't really know. Coming out around Christmas makes me just want. Christmas music, but that's okay because I'm still excited.

Oh, totally, totally. But we'll get at December 13th. He released this photo. It's just, I mean, he's just so cool. He's just such a rock star. Um, so that's very exciting. And then number two is we talked about on the podcast, Jonas Brothers changed a lot of their social media on Friday to Christmas themed things. I'm still hoping that we're getting a full Christmas album. I don't know. Right now, we have all they confirmed that we will be getting a brand new original Christmas song on Friday called Like It's Christmas by the George Brothers. It's like music to my ears already. Even though I haven't heard it. It's fantastic.

But it's just so funny. Like after we talked about this on the podcast where I was pretty adamant on not saying that I don't really listen to Christmas music till after Thanksgiving, this is going to be the exception. Well, I told you what if it comes out before? I know. And I said I'm going to have to listen to it. So now I'm going to have to listen to it because it's going to be out on Friday. I don't think, I hate to bring it to you, but I don't think we're getting a full album now. You don't think.

No, because I think they would have announced the full album. I don't think that they would just put out a song on Friday and then, you know, you know what I mean? Like you don't, you don't change your profile pictures and then just announce a song. You change your profile pictures and announce an album if you have one. Yeah. So I understand them just going with the song. It's upsetting because, you know, that's not enough. for my liking or nor liking or anybody's liking. We'd like more. But giving us one song,

I'll take it. It's better than nothing. 100%. I hope it's like silky smooth and just gets me in the Christmas spirit. I hope so too. In other important news and very exciting news, we finally did a Love Island recap. It's not on this episode, but we did a Love Island season five recap. It's going to be on Monday with Jack Vanek from Lady Gang. Absolutely love her. And it was fantastic. Yeah. It is we went through everything. So it's like it's pretty long, but it's well worth it. Well worth it finally. I mean, we crushed a lot of a lot of episodes in just like one hour, you know. Yeah. I mean, we talked, we talked for an hour. So it's the in-depth season five analysis you've been looking for. Yeah, definitely. All right. I think it's time to get into the show, into the topics. We have a great

interview on this episode. Yeah. So the topics are Caitlin Carter confesses her. love for Miley Cyrus in this new essay. Chris Jenner's birthday, Kim Kardashian gave her the best birthday present. Emma Watson says she's self-partnered, which everybody has been loving. And we have a great interview.

You know him from Gilmore Girls. Matt Zucre. Yeah, I know that there are a lot of Gilmore Girls lovers who listen to this podcast. this I am one of them it's one of my favorite shows of all time you guys are going to I think love this interview because he was really awesome yeah he was awesome so let's get into it starting off with chris jenner's birthday kim Kardashian posted a photo video of her birthday birthday present for chris jenner and boy was it a doozy it made me sob it honestly the feeling that when I watch this video when I read the caption so kelly keeks was out my apartment and I invited her over to watch the

Little Mermaid live action thing, which I invited you as well, but you had other plans. Yeah, which unfortunately I did not really even watch in full. I caught some parts of it, but I'll just, I look, there's a lot of time. There's a lot of ABC programming that I make my boyfriend sit through, Bachelor, dancing with stars. Tons. I've made him sit through one too many live musicals on television. And he texted me Tuesday morning.

It was like, please. can we watch the basketball games and not the Little Mermaid live. I was like, okay, fine, fair. So I caught like the first 20 minutes or so of The Little Mermaid because it was halftime of the first game of the Kansas Duke game. So I was able to see a little of it, but not a lot. And I'm upset about it because I've actually heard mixed reviews. Did you like it?

I liked parts of it. and I you know parts of it were boring but the parts that I loved were John Stamos yeah yeah which was amazing I heard Queen Latifah was amazing was awesome I really enjoyed the live parts yeah I did but I thought it was an interesting way for them to do it I thought I actually really enjoyed it so we had a nice night but in between all of that while this was happening while this was happening Kim Kardashian post Chris the birthday president of Chris Jenner revealed that they took um Kim took them to their childhood home where they grew up with their dad, got them all of the cars that they had plus the license plate. Chris Jenner had a two die four license plate.

Yeah, letter two. Yes. Die. Letter number number two. Die number four. Yeah. Yes. And honestly, it was funny because I started crying and I'm like, this is so sweet, like thinking about where they used to come from.

Meanwhile, they were really rich back then as well. They're just so much more rich and famous now. But they were well off. Yes, yes. I wouldn't say that they were like super rich then, but they were very comfortable. They were very comfortable. There was not a problem. They were not worrying about it.

No, no, no. I'll read Kim's tweets. So she started this by saying, today we celebrate my mom. Anyone that knows her knows how sentimental she is. For her birthday, I planned a small lunch with just her kids and her closest friends of 40 plus years. I sent out invites with the location where we all met. When everyone arrived, I told them I had a surprise,

and this wasn't where we were eating. Then she posted, you know, the video where she's like, everybody, open your envelopes and they see it. She wrote, I then gave everyone the real invitation. And once everyone saw the address for where we would be going, tears filled the room. I rented our childhood home. The way she framed these tweets, this was her like whole Instagram caption,

but the way she like framed the tweets was so good. It was like, I rented our childhood home. And then new tweet. The video, Chris immediately starts sobbing. Watching Chris Jenner Cry made me cry. Then she says, all of our memories live here, especially with our dad. It's where each Kardashian child was born and made us who we are. Growing up, the home had the most ridiculous wallpaper and kitchen set.

I remade all of our table settings out of the same fabric and print as the wallpaper. We had lunch at the home as if it hadn't changed. And we cried the entire time. When we walked out to get our cars to drive there, I had another surprise. I had rented every car my parents ever owned. I had some waiting outside so we could drive them to the house, and the rest were lined up in the driveway of the house exactly how my parents used to have them parked. I even remade the exact license plates.

Yes, my mom had to die for a license plate. We drove to the home in these cars and relived our childhood. This was the best day ever. I am so proud I was able to keep such a job. a meaningful surprise, a secret from my mom and sister for weeks. This was the most special, nostalgic day in my life, and we felt my dad's presence enjoying the day with us. I kept it together at lunch, even though I cried during the planning process.

But at the end, I went into my old bathroom, closed the door, and cried so hard. Now, this whole thing is fantastic. I mean, what just an unbelievable gift? But, like, the way Kim wrote the tweets just made me laugh because it was just like the ultimate pat on your on your own back, you know, which is so fair, because if you pull off something like this, you're bragging for forever.

But when she was like, I even remade the exact license of place, like she was really proud of herself for this one. And I feel like the other sisters, whatever the other sisters got Chris for this 64th birthday

sucked. Yeah, definitely didn't live up to this. And this definitely solidifies Kim Kardashian's spot as favorite for now. We all know that it was Kylie. Like Kylie just buys her cars every year. Like, forget it. The cars aren't doing it.

The cars are just not going to cut it anymore. You need to go back. And now Kylie needs to get the house that they did keeping up with the Kardashians in from the beginning. Where Kendall and Kylie. Yeah. Well, Kendall and Kylie grew up in their house. So maybe they should go there.

That's the next step. Next birthday, 65. Yeah. I mean, this is what I love about Kim Kardashian because I kind of feel like besides Kim, Chris is the mold of the family. But I think Kim is as well. So her doing this big, extravagant thing for Chris Jenner just fits. I think that it really means more coming from Kim than it would come from Kylie or Kendall or one of them.

Because obviously, like, this is way before any type of... Oh yeah. Just before Kylie and Kendall even existed. And obviously, it definitely feels right that it was Kim to be the one to do this. Courtney is just not like very sentimental, I feel like, you know? Right. Like that's just how she is. Like even Courtney posted her like an Instagram birthday post for Chris.

And she wrote like it wasn't overly sappy. Like it was very nice. She wrote, thank you for giving me the most incredible childhood in the world for showing us how to live generously, love with a big unconditional heart and celebrate and cherish every second, every single second. I love you and wish you the happiest birthday mommy. And Chloe Kardashian commented, like, who is this writing your caption? Like, court, like, is this you?

Yeah, which it wasn't even that. Like, I mean, it was very nice, but it wasn't that sentimental. But it wasn't like the sappiest thing I've ever read. No. I feel like when I saw this, this reminds me of something my sister would do. It's like so sentimental and so thought out. Yeah. I'd be like, damn, that's a good gift.

I wish I thought of that. You know, like the other siblings were probably like, fuck, our gifts do not live up to this. No, definitely not. But I feel like it was also such a cool experience for everybody else in the family that they just say like, all right. Kim gets credit for it. But it was awesome. Yeah, definitely. Well, happy birthday, Chris Jenner.

HBD. 64. I thought you was 70. Sorry, Chris. Oh, come on, Fran. Well, no, I just assumed like that Kim did this for like a big birthday. Yeah, it was only 64. This seemed like a 70th birthday idea to me.

Like I, and for some reason, I don't know why I had 70 in my mind. Or 65 at least. Yeah, yeah. I don't know why I had 70 in my mind. She's not even close. She's 64. I always forget that she is still really young. She has, for 64, it has a billion grandkids, you know.

She, it's kind of crazy. She, because she started having kids young. And I kind of always forget that too. Right. But it's also kind of cool that she's a young grandma. Oh, I'm totally. And MJ's still around. Oh, my God.

I was watching one of the recent Kardashians. And I think maybe like Scott was with MJ or MJ was maybe in Kylie's office. And I don't want to be morbid, but I just like, she's so adorable and so cute. I was just like, oh, please, MJ, like live forever. Oh, that was kind of a sad way to end this. I know it is very morbid, but like, unfortunately, we don't live forever. Don't bring this up to me again. I hate thinking about it.

MJ is getting up there, but maybe she'll live to like 120 because she is spry. With technology these days, you never know. And I wonder how old she even is. Do you think we can find that out? Yeah, definitely. I feel like they had a recent birthday for her as well. Chris Jenner I don't know

Yeah, she was there. She was there. Yeah. And she was in, I didn't know if I saw her in the video with all. Oh, because everybody like everybody went to the house. Way to go, Kim. Very emotional. Very emotional.

Just a plus gift. Caitlin Carter posted this whole long blog post. Yeah. So in Elle, she wrote a little essay, I would say. Kaelin Carter on her summary of self-discovery. She said, for the first time, I listened to myself, forgot about the norm and lived. So she posted this day, Spencer Pratt like retweeted it and was like, guess Miley didn't have her sign an NDA. Spencer just always loves to crack jokes about this.

So it opens like this. She wrote, this past July, I went on vacation with a female friend. The next thing I knew, I was in love with her. It wasn't quite that simple, of course, but it also wasn't very complicated either. Until that trip, it had never crossed my mind that I was even capable of loving a woman the way I loved her. But after reflecting on my romantic history, I realized that I've never really had a type. I know I'm not alone in feeling pressure to explain or define myself in one way or another. In an era when Mark Ronson is lampooned for momentarily labeling himself sapuosexual,

publicly defining one's identity is not for the faint of heart. But I relate to Mark's sentiment. I also find myself attracted to people in a way that seems disconnected from sex and physical traits and more connected to a person's mind. It's not necessarily intelligence, although that helps, but it's about how they think and operate, how they view the world. I guess technically I could label myself a number of ways,

or on second thought, not at all. Why are we so hell-bent on defining each variation of sexuality anyway? We've become a society of labels, even as we claim to be more open-minded than ever. Then she wrote, when I was 22, I fell in love with a brilliant but much older man. He was quick, interesting, and the funniest person I've ever known. My friends and family didn't get it.

In their eyes, our age difference, made us an odd match. But there was a chemistry that drew me to him as if I had no say in the matter. At 25, I met the man I would eventually choose to marry, so she talks about Brody. The legitimacy of that marriage has become a matter of public debate, but for he and I, it was very real. He was quite possibly the most beautiful man on the planet with a heart of gold and a tireless sense of adventure. I was drawn to his spirit. You'll never be bored, my mom offered. as I wondered early on whether or not he was the right partner for me.

Of course, she was right. I was never bored. He became my best friend, and together we had all the fun the world had to offer. Eventually, though, after years of constant excitement, we found we'd done as much growing apart as we'd done growing up. I began to spend a lot of time traveling on my own friends quietly morning what I knew in my heart would soon be the end of my marriage. Shortly thereafter, as my friend and I spent that August traveling through Europe together

and trying to move past our respective breakups, my first and only romance with a woman was born. I felt just as hard for her as I had the older man so many years before. It was that same familiar force of nature. I didn't have to think about a thing or overanalyze. It just happened and it felt exactly right. Reflecting back on our three-year friendship, I realized I had always been drawn to her in a way I wasn't with other friends.

But until that trip, it had never crossed my mind to think of her in a romantic sense. Recently, I found myself wondering why and how my brain had been programmed to ignore an attraction that in retrospect seems so evident to me. I believe it was all just a matter of chemistry that had nothing to do with gender. I still don't feel like I'm in a place to label my sexuality one way or another, but I'm okay with that.

It's something I'm still exploring and figuring out. It's been interesting to watch friends and strangers alike assume all automatically revert to being attracted to men as if they're more familiar with my sexuality than I am. Even I don't entirely understand what my experience this summer means for me going forward, and it's my experience. While it was short-lived, I'll remain internally grateful to my most recent relationship

for opening my eyes to this unexplored part of myself and for inspiring a new level of self-discovery and wonder at all the possibilities of life. I've been forced to get to know myself in a far deeper way than ever before, and not just in terms of my sexual preferences. I've also been forced to reckon with who I am as a person. Although the relationship with my friend was often referenced in the media as merely a summer fling or a same-sex affair, it was so much more than that. This was a profound journey of self-discovery.

For the first time, I listened to myself, forgot about the norm and lived. I hope that everyone, when given the chance, takes the time to understand who exactly their most authentic selves are, untethered from what we may have been taught to believe. Remain curious. Know that there are many layers within you, and they just might be the most invaluable ones. Wow, nice job, Fran. Thank you. Yeah, that was nice.

It's a beautiful essay. Nice job by Caitlin. Like, beautifully written, very, like, it's short but sweet. Like, it's really not that long. And I feel like she got her point across very well. Yeah, very well. It seemed like, you know, Brody, like she said, one of the most beautiful man on the plaza planet.

Facts. Like, I can strongly agree with that. She'd never be bored. Seems like he's an adventurous type. But then she moved on with Miley. And she was discovering things about herself. She didn't know. I will point out the fact that she said she was drawn to Miley more than her other friends.

because it's Miley Cyrus Like if Miley Cyrus was my friend She just has that kind of aura Drawn to hang out with Miley Cyrus than my other friends No offense, Fran. None taken. I also think that Yeah, I think that I agree with you

But Miley just has We've never even been around Miley And I know that Miley I feel like has a Just a presence Sort of like pulled her Like a gravitational pull Like you just can't control it But you just gravitate towards her

Right. and the kind of personality that she is. So it was very interesting for Caitlin to talk about just not really labeling herself in any way and just letting life happen. And life took her to Miley Cyrus and it was unexpected. But she just went for it. Which, yeah. You just, yeah, you do that.

I wonder what it was because they went to Europe as friends. Yeah. And then all of a sudden it was as lovers. Well, you know, they were in Lake Combs. was a romantic place. Yeah, maybe it just happened. They were just in Italy. Something happened. They just felt it. I mean, obviously, this is Caitlin's side. This is her talking about what happened. Miley's side might be different where, you know, she's looking at a friend. She just got out of a marriage as well and is like, this is a good rebound situation. You never know. Right. Or she maybe felt the same connection that Caitlin felt. We don't know. But it was. it felt right at the time for them clearly.

Like if you're going to give me these videos, I think that's what it was because Cody Simpson, not really my type. I don't know what it is about just like strictly blonde hair on guys. And now, and then she said cut to 29 and I'm like, oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious.

And I realize it's because there is suddenly this bloody, bloody British, this bloody influx of subliminal messaging around. If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby and you are turning, 30 and you're not in some incredibly secure stable place in your career or you're still figuring things out. There's just this incredible amount of anxiety. She said she does go on dates. She gets help from friends who set her up on dates, no matter those dates haven't gone very far. And she said, I never believe the whole I'm happy single spiel. I was like, this is totally a spiel. It took me a long time, but I'm very happy. I call it being self-partnered. See, I love that. I feel like I don't think anybody should make fun of her.

If you are self-partnered, that's amazing. You know what Morgan Stewart? She's dating herself. Morgan Stewart tweeted just recently, like, I love being alone. Yeah. I just love being alone. Yeah. And I feel like that kind of relates to what Emma Watson is saying here.

Wasn't that your guy? I did have a crush on Tom Felton when like the first couple movies with like this like back Draco hair before he kind of not weird. Oh no, I did I did like Tom Felon a lot. And they have they've been hanging out like a decent amount in the nut, I guess you could say. But I also think he was married or is married.

Ooh, that would be scandalous. Like, I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that, uh, or maybe I had a girlfriend and he was, oh, no. Not married? I'm so confused. Has she ever dated like a huge celebrity? Um, not that I can recall. Not really.

which is amazing when it was on Netflix that kind of brought a whole new generation of fans yeah to the show and it for whatever reasons for whatever reason it's been one of those shows it's kind of lasted over a course of so many years so that's really special to have been a part of that yeah I'm so glad that you enjoyed it I had the DVD box set yeah I mean before it was on Netflix people are freaking out we were talking we were talking about you at our desk and the kid turn around behind me and was like, shh, shh, don't spoil it. I'm on season three.

And we're like, what are you talking about? It's way too long. You can be accusing us as a spoiling Gilmar girls, which is very funny. That is classic. That is hilarious. I think that, so that show finished in 2007. Yeah, you would think you should have seen it already.

Yeah, if there's a spoiler, it's kind of on you now, right? Exactly, exactly. But like I said, it's been one of those shows. that just people have connected to for a long time, and that's very, very rare. Yeah. So it's cool. And thank you so much. Of course.

And now you're on the resident, which is a totally kind of change of pace for you. You're playing a doctor, a resident, obviously. What was the preparation like for that? Because you watch these medical shows, and it really seems like you guys know what you're talking about. Yeah. No, it's thankfully I enjoy that research because it's very extensive for every single. episode and of course building the character beforehand in terms of not only the challenge with it is not

only the dialogue it's the physicality that's involved with it like i did a show called the good wife which was a a legal show and basically the most challenging thing with that in terms of beyond the dialogue was just the blocking is just like don't turn your back to the judge right which is not too difficult but but with the medical show you know you're actually doing the physical elements as well whether or being giving an IV or listening to the heart or listening to the lungs and how do you do that? And what are you checking for in your eyes when you're checking the pupils? How do you do that? So the physicality and the dialogue as well is the challenge with that.

And the research beforehand, before I did the pilot and then before doing season one, listen to a lot of podcasts, read a lot of books. There's a book called House of God, which I would recommend for anybody to read. It's just a great read. There's another book called Do No Harm, which I would recommend. Another book called Have You heard of When Breath Becomes Air? That's a book about he was a surgeon, and then this is not a spoiler because you find out the first, you find out in the first page that actually he was a surgeon and he passed away.

So it's about him being a patient, becoming a patient, learning about his own mortality, also being a surgeon, and that's an incredible book. So thankfully the research that I've done, I've really enjoyed that process, because it's really extensive in terms of preparing for it. And then episode by episode, watching videos and the terms and getting notes from the medical advisor about specific diagnosis, specific disease, what am I thinking in this particular part? What am I looking for?

But I love that piece of it in learning about the health care system. So it's extensive, but it's enjoyable for me. It's kind of like you had to go to medical school for the show. It is, you know, I know much more now than I do before doing the show. I can say that much. And, yes, it's fascinating. And another book I read called Complications, one of the things that talks about is as a patient, you go in. And you think it's a perfect science in terms of, okay, we've got the symptoms here, the diagnosis.

And then this is what you do. Take this. Treatment, yeah, yeah. And go home. And that's not the case. It's there's intuition there. There's guessing there. Educated guessing.

And so I think hopefully the show kind of, we also pulled the curtain back a little bit on all the good things that are good and bad. But in terms of my research there, I was coming at it from a different perspective. And then to learn it's not a perfect science is something I found incredibly interesting. Yeah, definitely. Right. And obviously you don't get all of the scripts at once for every episode. They come one at a time, right? So each time you get a script, is it like uncovering more information that you're learning?

Because I'm sure there's new terms that come about that you didn't know. before? Absolutely. And that that that's just one piece of the, uh, uh, the preparation is just the medical component of the dialogue, understanding what I'm doing, the physicality of that. That's only one piece of the preparation for whatever the scenes may be. So I think the medical genre in that way is an added challenge, but one of the reasons I wanted to do it was because of that challenge, but I also feel that, you know, life and death and health interconnects us all. So wherever we're from, whatever race, whatever religion, we all deal with these components. So for me, the genre allowed itself to interconnect people with differences in people who are like. And so for me,

it was about bringing people together as opposed to separating. And that's what I love about that particular genre is it allows for that. because we all have to face these questions of mortality and life and death and so forth in our health. Yeah, totally. This show is now going on its third season, which is great because sometimes shows don't even make it that far. So that is fantastic. And it is a medical show and there are a lot of medical shows. What do you think makes the resident different than kind of the other medical shows?

Yeah, that genre is obviously here. before the resident. It'll be here long after the resident. So in that way, that's for sure. In terms of this particular show, at least what drew me to it was, again, going back to the good wife, I did seven years on that. And I felt like it was a beloved genre, the legal genre, but it took a different peak inside in terms you had the scored politician's wife who's coming back into the workforce with a

female lead that felt different for me. terms of that genre. And for this as well, I felt like with this, we were the first scene of the pilot, if people have seen it, a doctor commits a medical error over something that's very simple. It's an appendectomy. And I actually, in 2015, a close friend of mine, her mother passed away from a medical error. So people asked me when in the first season, you know, were you surprised by that first scene? I said, no, actually, I wasn't. I had a personal experience with that. So for me, I felt like the show was going to pull back that curtain on doctors and nurses are heroes, but they're fallible heroes. The health care system saves lives,

but it also is broken in a lot of ways. And we talk about insurance. We talk about conglomerates, taking over hospitals for putting profits over patients. We talk about bad doctors. We talk about good doctors and I felt like this was a beloved genre like the good wife that took a different peak inside of that. Yeah, right, because there's a lot of real life elements that are going into it. People can relate to it, although it is scripted at the same time. Yeah, and I feel like storytelling has a way of accessing important things in a different way. So if you're maybe talking about, you know, a documentary is one thing or with the political zeitgeist right now talking about the health care system, can be challenging and maybe your eyes kind of gloss over, but if you're watching a television

show where you're seeing these characters and relationships and through that storytelling, different people might have a different connection with it and learn something for that from that or think about something in a different way. And that's what I love about storytelling is it does break down barriers in a different way and on even issues that maybe aren't necessarily fun to talk about like the health care system, but through storytelling, and these different characters, it's a different access point to it. Yeah. And of course, there is all the medical stuff,

but there's also their personal lives, their love lives, the drama. You work with Emily Van Camp on this show, who I love I was a huge fan of revenge, which was fantastic. How has it been working with Emily? You know, it's so interesting because Emily and I, we thought we knew it when we met, was for the first time with the pilot, but we thought, hey, we can't believe we haven't met before

because she did Everwood and I did Gilmore Girls and there was sign, you know, those shows were similar. And we just had an instant connection in terms of mutual respect for our work as actors and mutual respect as people when we got to know each other. And I think for me that's what creates the chemistry is having that, that mutual respect, that communication with all of our scenes, whatever they may entail. And she's fantastic to work with. And I feel like that's where the chemistry comes from, is that respect as actors listening to each other's ideas. And in terms of those other scenes that are more intimate, also having that communication and having each other's back, I feel like we trust one another. And so I think that that's where hopefully we're presenting something where you see some dark bits, you see some fun bits. and it feels real and grounded like these two people really would be in a relationship together

so that audiences can connect to what that relationship looks like. Yeah, and I'm sure you guys obviously spend a lot of time together because you're just filming all the time, right? Like, no matter what, the chemistry has got to be there because you're spending a lot of time. It's either there or not because you spend a lot of time together. Thankfully, in our case, like I mentioned, just we do get along as people and as actors.

And I think that's been a benefit to the show and hopefully for fans as well who have enjoyed that particular, those two characters together. Yeah, definitely. And now I was curious because obviously getting the role of Logan and Gumuros was a huge part of your story.

Did you want to be an actor before? Like, is that when you were younger, were you like, I want to be an actor? No, no. It actually was after college. for me and before Gilmore Girls, I had some consistent work and then I didn't work for a while. And I think in that particular period of my life is actually before Gilmore Girls where I really started to decide, okay, I have to, if I want to make this a career, I have to invest in the craft

before Gilmore Girls. And then thankfully, Gilmore Girls happened. And that was for three seasons, I think from 2004 to 2007. And that was. was a certainly a big moment for me that changed things in a lot of different ways. Yeah. And what's that like? Obviously, I feel like this is something a lot of actors or actresses go through and maybe people listening where, you know, you're trying and you're trying and there's nothing happening.

When you say you really dove into the craft, what changed in that moment for you? Yeah. For me, it was about getting into class and studying. and there's, you know, the technical aspects of acting in the craft, and there's really immersing myself 100% into it as you need to do for any profession that you want to be successful at. I think that people who watch a show, they're seeing a finished product, but they're not seeing all the time and the preparation and the sacrifice and learning the craft in that way. And so I really committed myself in terms of the time to try and be the best I could at that profession, which, to be fair, when I first moved to L.A., I had no idea what the hell I was doing.

I had no clue. So I kind of think I got those first jobs just because I was a little bit fearless and ignorant. And that only lasts so long. and then after that when the jobs went away, then it became more about the actual craft itself and putting the time into that. And I saw that you auditioned for multiple roles on Gilmore Girls before you got the role of Logan.

Do you remember who you auditioned for? Were they characters that ended up being on the show? Yes. I don't remember one character I auditioned for, but that is, interestingly enough, a great transition because I auditioned, I think, for two roles before Logan. And, you know, that first audition I had, I didn't get it, but I had watched Gilmore Girls. I was familiar with, as you guys know, there's a specific cadence. It's a dromedy.

It's a fast-paced thing. And if I had saw that on the page and not done my research and went in there and delivered a typical audition, I would have never been invited back. So I had put that work into understanding what the show was. And I didn't get that particular role, but they liked me and kept me in mind. I believe the first role I went out for was Marty. Okay. I think so.

I think so. That's what I'm going to say. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure. And I'm not, I don't remember what the second one was. And then Logan was, yeah, yeah, over several years later. later and that was something for me again having watched the show and and and thankfully amy sherman paladino and dame dame d'anedno and the casting directors kept me in mind um i felt i had a beat on that character in terms of the way that i saw him was uh just being someone

who's pushing rory towards her adult life in terms of her career path and pushing her to take chances that normally she wouldn't because Logan was such a risk taker that that would be the interesting part about that relationship. And I know people have opinions on whether they like Logan or not. But for me, what I enjoyed about the relationship was he was a risk taker. She was not and pushing her to try and be the best she could become personally and professionally, maybe not always in the best way. They're stealing a boat together and he doesn't say no in that season, you know, so forth and so on. But that's what I connected to in the character on a deeper level. And I think that's ultimately what Amy appreciated about that essence of the piece that I was able to bring to it.

And you've experienced both being an actor before social media and now after social media is huge. And you mentioned, oh, some people didn't like Logan, some people like other characters more. What was that like at the time when they were like picking teams what was that like almost think feel like people pick teams like way later because when the show was out that didn't even really exist yeah but i i feel like now with social media it's much more of a thing totally and people watching the show again for the first time now yeah for me people yell team logan at you when they see you on the street yes or tell me that they hated me you know and uh um for me that just shows the passion of the fans i mean again he talked from the beginning about somebody not wanting spoilers.

Yeah, yeah. That show finished in 2007. Right. I mean, for me, the fact that that's happening and I've been a part of that is very, very rare. Yeah. So it's not so much to me about what team someone is on. It's about the fact that I do know that especially a lot of mothers and daughters grew up watching that show on their couches.

And I do know how passionate fans are about. the show in general. So for me, it's about being part of that. And of course, Jared and Milo, knowing those guys and how we always cared for each other

and felt like we're a part of the same thing. So it never felt competitive between the three of us at all. It was more about being a part of this thing. A part of like different phases of Rory's life. Right. And people are going to have who they connect to. I think ultimately it was just about being a part of something people were so passionate.

about and I also understood that you know it was the Gilmore girls it's about the two girls so it's about people who love Rory who do they want her to be yeah so it's not even about me it's not even about Milo

or Jared in those characters it's about who do fans want Rory to be and I always understood that and love that piece of the passion that fans have as well I will tell you that so I like the first few times I watched the series. I was like, I love Dean. And I think it was mostly because I was young and I had a crush

on Jared. I was like, Dean is so cute. Like I love Dean. And but then I, as I got older, I watched the show again and it was such a different experience watching it as an adult and being like, oh my God, Dean kind of stinks. And I was like, I don't really, I don't know if I like Dean. I've now firmly established I will be Team Logan probably forever. And she's not just saying that because you're sitting here because we were talking about this outside in the office and some of the guys were saying who are now rewatching it as well yeah they said that they have also switched there's a lot of team jess in the office but there there people why is that why do you feel that way i i just always felt like um i connected with rory in a way that like she was always kind of nervous to get out

of her comfort zone and to do things that challenged her and logan challenged her in that way that Jess and Dean never really did. And I felt like it with Jess, she could have just fallen back into a very kind of simple life. And I love that Logan kind of gave her more of a vibrant more of like a thrill. It was just way

more exciting. I didn't love every decision Logan made. But in the long run, I felt like they made sense together. Yeah. Yeah. Again, you started with Rory and who that character is and what did Logan bring out of her and um you know i think that if you if somebody does like logan they see that uh he

kind of cracked her shell a little bit and forced her to do things she wouldn't normally do to uh better herself and in her life and i think that that was what again what i loved about that relationship and um you know logan as well but you know logan was young he was um he was he was unsure of his path professionally. Of course, we had some issues with other women. So there's a lot of faults. Overbearing father. Exactly, with that particular character.

But I do think at its heart and its core, if you were going to pick a team, Logan, it would be because of that that he pushed her to pursue life in a different way. And I feel like different people in our lives come in. for different reasons and relationships especially that they could even be two weeks or six months or whatever those relationships are they can impact us in very important ways and they come in at the right time and I feel like kind of Dean came in at the right time, Jess came in at the right time and Logan came in at the right time that was right for for Roy to make those changes in her life definitely definitely and of course Gilmore Girls made its return to Netflix

what was that like for you when they reached out to you. I was so happy. Yeah. Yeah. It was kind of mind-blowing. You know, I found out online, like everybody else, that it was coming back. And at first, of course, I didn't know if I would be asked back because I didn't know what the context of the stories would be. And

then about a week or two later, Amy Sherman Palladena reached out to me and said, hey you may have heard online we're doing this thing i want you to come back and and of course immediately i said yes without seeing anything yeah um so for me it was it was just mind blowing that uh nine years i think it was at that time maybe that it had completed that uh you know there was room for more and and then it felt i also when i decided to do it it it felt like something the fans that always wanted because Amy and Dan didn't finish that last season. Netflix provided a new avenue for Amy and Dan to both write all the episodes, direct all

the episodes, and to finish the show in the way that they wanted to. And I think fans had always kind of wanted a Gilmore Girls movie for a very long time. So this Netflix happening and giving Amy and Dan full creative control and the fans having wanted it for so long felt like something very organic as opposed to something that was a reboot that's a money grab or something like that this felt authentic and that's what it really made me excited about it whether you love the reboot or not it was authentic because the creators got to tell the story that they wanted to tell that's what that's what i was most happy about when that did come out because i was like oh god like don't don't ruin gilmore girls but then

when I saw that obviously Amy and Dean everybody would be connected to it I was like okay this is great because I feel like whether I like it or not this is how they envisioned the show ending and it's over but it ends on kind of a cliffhanger I would say not a cliffhanger

but it's just kind of up for interpretation like you can the viewer can kind of decide what they think happened what do you think happened well going back first of all I will Well, going back to the fact that every single character was a part of that show was on that reboot, I mean, I can't tell you how incredibly difficult it was to get all those actors.

I remember seeing all of some about Melissa McCarthy, and I'm like, she's a ginormous star. They were like, how do we get suke on the show? Just the timing of things. You know, the Kirk character was great. He was doing Guardians of the Galaxy at that particular time. I was doing the good wife. I mean, I did, I mean, working out just my schedule alone with shooting in New York and then coming to L.A. and shooting the good wife, trying to get off from the good wife to do that, was insane.

Yeah. And then you magnify that by every single character that was on there. That's really special that everybody was able to be a part of that. And it was incredibly difficult. And then back to the original question, you know, Amy and Dan, they did tell me what. But at that particular time was the intention of those last four words. And even at that time, they had said, yeah, you know, tell whoever you want with that. And I've never said anything about that because I feel like if Amy and Dan want to say that, you know, they would.

Or if it comes back, maybe it would change. Or to the more of the point, I've never been one who's love spoilers for me. I love that it's not wrapped in a bow. I love that it's open to interpretation And I feel like that was their intention of how to finish it And so I want to honor that And if they ever want to say, you know, what their intention was they can But I enjoyed the fact that it was open to interpretation

Right. And I feel like that makes it like happy for everybody Because you can just believe whatever you want Like I personally choose to believe that it's Logan's baby And Logan is kind of like Rory's Christopher And like maybe Jess comes back in But Jess is kind of like the Luke character and it all just kind of comes full circle.

Yeah, and see, that makes you happy. And that's how I go to sleep at night. It's kind of, it's kind of choose your own adventure that you have there for sure. I mean, regardless, it does come back full circle. That's for sure because obviously with that relationship of the mother, daughter, and Lorelei and Lori being the central characters, and now Rory's pregnant and having that conversation with her mom. So I look at it for me, why I loved it,

regardless, it's, again, the show has always been about those two characters. So it doesn't matter who the father is. What matters is those two. So how I go to sleep in, they come full circle because that's the show is Gilmore Girls. So for me, it's not about the guys. It's about them. I love how much you respect the fact that it's the Gilmore girls. It's about them.

It is. There's a very funny podcast of guys who, have you ever heard of it, that the Gilmore guy, I don't know if it's called Gilmore guys. I forget what exactly it is. Guys love Gilmore Girls. It's just a bunch of like dudes breaking down every episode of Gilmore Girls

because they love it. No, I'm familiar with that. And that came out like fairly recently, obviously, it wasn't on podcasts weren't happening when the show was on TV. It was before the reboot. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. No, I'm familiar with that. And again, that just speaks to the passion for whatever reason. I mean, there's so much content out there now. One of the producers for the resident when we started was like, okay, so not only we up against, you know, whatever's on in our time slot, you're up against every show ever made. Right. Because you can go to Netflix, you can go to Hulu.

Like, you don't have to search, you know, Disney. They have it all now. You watch Cheers in Seinfeld or whatever. Friends, if you want, versus the resident. And so to have a show that, like, Gilmore Girls or the resident lasting few seasons, like we talked about, you know, that's very, you know, that's very. rare because there's so much content out there. So it's pretty special that that thing stuck around. Yeah.
