And it's all we can think about at this point. It absolutely is. So you're going to hear our full ever more mega recap and our interview with Sophia Carson. So it's a great way to start and finish this episode.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Yeah, so let's get into it. Oh, but I check it once, then I check it twice. Oh, look what you made me do. Look what you just made me do. Look what you just made me do. Oh, look what you made me do. Look what you just made me do. Look what you just made me do.
Starting point is 00:03:09 All right, everyone, it's time to get into this segment you've all been waiting for. Taylor Swift's new album, Evermore. here. It arrived. We've had the weekend to fully digest it. Go through it song by song over and over and over again. We have the lovely Kelly Kiggs joining us because she's a Taylor Swift fanatic as well as John Fidelberg, who is also a Taylor Swift fanatic. I knew I wasn't going to get a lovely. Your voice distinctly changed between Kelly and like, it's because I'm lovely, John. I'm an actual delight. Kelly always gets a very generous intro. I do. That is true. Yes, and also, you know, I wouldn't describe you as lovely. There's other ads.
Starting point is 00:03:46 I could use. Sure are. That would compliment you, but lovely, it describes Kelly Keys. Thank you. You know, lovely voice, calm presence. I appreciate that. Anyways, we're going to go through the album song by song, and we've had the best
Starting point is 00:03:59 people here to do it. We got Fran. She's going to go through every song. Personally, listen. Yeah, I just, let's start with how you feel and just like aria disclaimer at the beginning. I'm going to get it out of the way, and I know people get annoyed at this, but I'm just going to be completely honest.
Starting point is 00:04:13 I don't not like Taylor Swift, but I'm not overly obsessed with Taylor Swift. So when she releases a new album, yes, I find it exciting and I will listen, but I don't get like as hyped up as you do. And that's no dista Taylor Swift. I want that to be clear, because people automatically, if you don't get as excited. We talk about Taylor Swift all the time and you do enjoy talking about Taylor Swift. Of course. And I think she's so talented in every way, shape, and form. Like I'm not disrespecting her in any way. I just don't get as excited as other people do. And, oh, John, come on. That was, that was crazy. That was, I'm, we're going to God, you didn't describe it as lovely.
Starting point is 00:04:48 That would cut that out, but don't. You know what we do here. That was like, that was insane. That was insane. I was insane. I was on chicks in the office for the first time I fucking burp it in my mic. You're fucking tony.
Starting point is 00:04:59 You're fucking gross. It's okay. We're going to let it slide. But I, you know, I wish I could get as excited as you guys do. You know, I'm jealous of the hype you guys get. It just doesn't hit me as hard. So I think you guys will have way more to say. about each song.
Starting point is 00:05:17 I'm just here along for the ride to enjoy. I saw your tweet. I think it was probably the day after, or maybe later in the day. It was the day off. Well, you said, like, Cuddy,
Starting point is 00:05:26 you listen to Cuddy first. Yes. Which I also love Kid Cuddy, and I was almost mad at Taylor for releasing an album and just stealing all of his shine. But I actually think it brought him shine. I think it worked reverse.
Starting point is 00:05:38 I've seen that argument. I've seen that argument online. The Ant Tyler people were very gung-ho about Cuddy. Because even I said, even I was like, Oh, I never would have commented on Kid Cuddy's album. I would have been like, oh, cool songs, whatever, but I don't care enough to, like that.
Starting point is 00:05:51 I don't care enough to really comment on it at all, but I actively thought about him being like, oh, Taylor kind of stole his thunder. I'll definitely give it a little listen. And I did. I listened to a few of the songs. I don't know I'm back to Evermore because that's just was the mood I was feeling. It is what it is. That's how I grew up, like just my siblings always listened to like rap music or whatever
Starting point is 00:06:07 so then I listened to it. And I'm like, Taylor Swift was never my favorite growing up. It's just, it is what it is. Everybody has different tastes of music. That's why different music exists. We all listen to like the same people. There'd be like 10 musicians of all time. Like if we all just listen to the same shit.
Starting point is 00:06:23 I also think we talked about this via text saying that I was like, I love Taylor so much I think because I like to personally relate it to myself and act like I'm like so battered and bruised. I feel like you are not quite as battered and bruised. No, I haven't lived that long of a life. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So maybe like if you ever become that way, you'll appreciate Taylor more. But for now, like, Kit Cudy is your vibe.
Starting point is 00:06:42 1989 was one of my favorite albums ever. I'll say that. Oh, absolutely. But it was just that album at that time spoke to me. And for the Kid Cuddy argument where people are like, oh, the anti-Taylor people are going hard for Kid Cuddy, I don't think it should be any sort of conversation between the two of them because they're not the same music whatsoever. So when I tweeted that and then people were like, yeah, Taylor Swift's garbage. I was like, no, that's not what I'm saying. Like you can't even compare the albums.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Everybody has their own lane. So to say Kid Cuddy is better than Taylor Swift is just not. necessarily true. It's just like whatever you're feeling at that time. But, alas, people like, here we are. People liked when I said that last time. They were like, can you throw that in every episode? So now I'm going to try to do that. But alas. We have evermore. Pour one out for Kid Cutty, Gwen Safani, Jack Harlow.
Starting point is 00:07:32 All right. Let's relax with Gwen Stefani. She had her time. She's on her one song. But also, who else? Madison Beer. Brittany and the Backstreet Boys had a new song come out. A lot of people got real. Let's relax on everybody. I just said pour one out. That's all I said.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Pour one out. Let's move on. Pour it out for me. I didn't get attention on Friday. You did it? I'm pretty much. You probably did. Either way, I feel like putting this album out at this time was a great thing
Starting point is 00:07:59 because she put out folklore in the summer. And the music of folklore didn't necessarily fit the vibe of the summer, even though it was great. It just didn't really go with that. And now this, it fits. It's sad and cold. It's sad. boy season, as John would say.
Starting point is 00:08:13 It's winter depression time. As Kid Cuddy would say as well, by the way. Sad person. Oh, yeah. How about that? No, Elsie's baby boy. The course is like, he gets bored in the winter. He's a sad boy, little sad boy. He wrote that for a dog. And John couldn't even pay him the damn respect. Yeah, speaking of people writing for you.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Literally, good. There it is. Well, why don't you guys take us through, all right? Why don't you give the people what they want real Taylor Swift fans? Before you do that real quick, what the hell? You like this? I mean, so I'm pointing it. Chaotic notes.
Starting point is 00:08:45 Kelly's a chaotic. It's chaotic notes. I'm going to take you to a mental hospital right after this. No, it's fine. It's chaotic notes. It's just doling. What I had intended to do, I have a little notebook here where I, on one page, wrote all the tracks of folklore, the other one I wrote all of Evermore.
Starting point is 00:08:57 And I was wanting to compare the two because people kept telling me that they like have to do with each other. And when I started doing that, I was like, I don't know if I, like, want to even do that. So I just started writing notes I felt in like random quotes and stuff on Evermore. It's weird. Just weird. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:10 If you. You fell down like any Taylor Swift, TikTok rabbit hole this weekend. I haven't even hit that yet. I haven't even like let my mind get there yet. Theory after theory after. Like I was just scrolling like, oh, like gas, showing my sister being like, do you think this is true? Do you think this is true?
Starting point is 00:09:26 Like people just grabbing everything. But there was a lot of people saying that you should listen to like the first song of folklore than the first song of Evermore, then the second song of Evermore. Yes, that's what I was going to do. And I was like, I don't know. Really? Yeah, throughout the whole thing that there are some connections. and maybe, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:43 But once I did that though, and I was like, oh, let's go back and forth and let's see. And I know, like, the meanings behind these songs, and they don't exactly match here. Like, some of them match, but not, like, one for one. It's to the point where, like, on TikTok, for, like, somebody found an Instagram from Carly Klaus with the captioned Gold Rush as the Instagram caption
Starting point is 00:10:03 so that everybody tied the lyrics of Gold Rush of, like, how you're such a beautiful person to Carly Klaus. So it's, once you've, get into that TikTok zone? The theories are... What's their, what's their, like, couple name? Like where you had said last week? Like their fake couple name, Taylor and Carly. I forget. It's like Taylor or something like that. It's a weird. There's always
Starting point is 00:10:26 rumors that they like had a lesbian relationship for me. I know. I know you know. I'm just bringing it out. However, they are like staunch rumors. Carly hates it. Yeah, that's my favorite new theory. Yeah. And by the way, that rumor was on TikTok too. I just want to throw out there. I can't believe we're doing this on the one year anniversary of fine line and I'm wearing my Harry Styles jacket in honor of him because yes I love Harry Styles and fine line great album I want to just give that credit where it's due happy one year anniversary baby I love you
Starting point is 00:10:49 the Harry Styles conspiracy with Taylor Swift is that Taylor Swift and Harry Styles committed vehicular manslaughter so they That's not where I thought that was going even a little kill the body Harry was driving and Taylor was in the car or when they were dating or something like that and he fucking killed somebody and they ran away and apparently she hints at it in a lot of songs as well as
Starting point is 00:11:18 he does out of the woods uh no body no crime apparently getaway car i imagine yeah he mentioned it in one of his songs and um that would be so wild i'd like i'm like kind of into it like i was like you murder bad what a threat to share it's so terrible it's so far too yeah i'm a little hot mom over here I'm like, turn on. Like seriously turned on by the house standard of Harry Styles murdering somebody and running away. And also sharing that murder secret
Starting point is 00:11:48 like forever. Like, oh my God, this is like this secret. Forbidden. Fuck. Yeah. So, whatever. It's so far fetch that it's great. That I love it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:55 So fantastic. I thought you were going to say like people thought they got secretly married. And my head was, I was immediately thinking that if they got married, if they were together forever, I think sexuality would become the thing of the past. But if the two of them would be like so evolved,
Starting point is 00:12:09 that the rest of people would be like, you know what, we have sex with everybody too. I agree with you completely. I agree with you completely. I don't think that Taylor is as forthcoming about her lack of sexuality as Harry is. Like I feel like Harry is like one of the. And then Taylor's kind of like,
Starting point is 00:12:24 well, don't talk about that time I made out with Carly Glaws. You know, it's kind of like that. Right. Either way, I love the theory. And you guys say it's so far-fetched, you know, well, oh, then murdering somebody, it's Hollywood. It's Hollywood, babes.
Starting point is 00:12:36 That's true. People do fucked up. shit and they hide it. Hide it, yes. I don't know if they make a lot of songs about it. It's their way of getting it out. They both have six songs about how they murder it. It's therapeutic. It's eating them alive and they feel like in some way
Starting point is 00:12:53 shape or form. They need to get it out and they're like, if we just put it in songs and this will make us just go to fucking jail. We want to get caught. That's kind of like when I tweet a hundred times and I'm depressed. Like that's the same shit. You're right. You know what? It is like non-stop. And it's like, well, I could just write a song like Carrie Stiles in
Starting point is 00:13:09 Maybe it'll be better. Right. Okay, guys, shall we start with track one of Evermore, which is Willow. Noah, would you please play the tune? Okay, Mr. Robot. That growl was weird. Think about Harry. Really surprised me in my headphones.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Holy shit, yeah. Okay. It is so hard not to sing. I can't even explain. The more that you say, the less I know, wherever you stray. That's how makes me feel just like I got to blow my hand. All right. How long are we listening to these songs?
Starting point is 00:14:32 Maybe you like kind of just talk over it. Yeah, I think I'm fine with that. Yeah, well, what's our strategy here? I'm going to play every single song all the way through. I can jump in. I mean, I got, you know, notes. No, I know. You're a friend.
Starting point is 00:14:44 Usually when we do this, we let like 15 seconds play and then you jump in. Absolutely. But with this. This is not always Taylor. This is different with Taylor because there are lyrics, specific lyrics that you want to hear and sometimes they don't come in towards the end of the song. That is true. We could skip around if you want.
Starting point is 00:14:59 I don't really know if that one, if that works either. Noah, you just do you. You let the music play. We can cut after this one part because this is the lyric that I like the most. Me too, me too. Okay, we could stop it. The first, my first listen when I heard that line, And I was like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:15:31 That's one of the greatest things. And then what did she do? She made that her bio on Instagram. Yeah, she did? Yeah, she did know that. I come back stronger than a 90s trend is her bio on Instagram. It is. It's stunning how good she is at being like everybody.
Starting point is 00:15:45 Because I think as you and I talk about the night it released and as we're talking about now, like the moment I heard that, I was like, oh, so me. That's what I had this written down somewhere. It's like she's able to write. from other people's perspectives, which I feel like is, it's not something she used to do before. Like,
Starting point is 00:16:03 I always felt like all of her songs were directly about her and then I would just, like, force my way into it. Now I feel as if she's writing through the perspective of other people, like a true storyteller. And I still force us to them to it.
Starting point is 00:16:13 But it's not easier because I don't have to be like, well, I'm like a rich, famous pop star and like I have depression. Like it's a different thing. With Willow though, Willow, can I tell you, is not my favorite song,
Starting point is 00:16:22 like by a mile. Like I just don't, I like it. I like it's sweet. I was actually surprised at this one, was this normally the first one that she releases is never up there for me and the ones that I like the most.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Yes. Yeah. Usually the worst song on the album. Me. Well, let's not forget me. Let's not talk about it either. But this one I really like because I think it has, it also is one of the catchiest choruses.
Starting point is 00:16:47 Like this is the one that had, that this chorus has been stuck in my head like all weekend. This is like, I think I said when, wow, at midnight, I was like, I'll see everybody in an hour. And I was going to like listen to the album. and then as soon as the chorus dropped on this, I replied to my own tweet. I'm like, never mind, it's a fucking 10. Because this, it is very,
Starting point is 00:17:06 it is far from my favorite song. Definitely not a bad song. It's far from my favorite song, but it is like one of the catchier, more boppy songs on the album, I think. Yes, definitely. I completely agree. I like her.
Starting point is 00:17:18 I'm looking to see that one I'm talking about here. A lot of the songs are, this album is 10 times more sad than folklore, I think. Like it's just, oh, for sure. I think so. I agree with you. I think the sad songs are sadder.
Starting point is 00:17:33 Yes, the sad songs are sadder. I think they hit a little bit sadder. Like I listen to folklore again and there is just a little bit more of a, not upbeat vibe, but there is more upper songs than there are. You think so? Yes, I do. This is a twist. I like a little more boppy.
Starting point is 00:17:52 I think that there are like purposeful bops on this song. Like I think that the Hame song, like the Hame song. is kind of on purpose to be like an upbeat song yeah agree yeah but that one still to me is an upbeat like that's still like yeah like there's however I feel like it's it's more force this is toxic femininity the song's about murdering a lover there is nothing that is like last great American dynasty box right yeah that's fair yeah that's fair all on you like okay so will for example it has a thing it's like wait for the signal me after dark show me the places where others gave you scars and I should know from the look on your face every
Starting point is 00:18:24 bait and switch is a work of art everything that she says I feel on this song specifically sounds like a toxic relationship a little bit. Like, it's almost like, I don't know. I get the vibe of that, but it's almost like an, like, all-consuming situation that she's trying to describe. There's, most of these songs, there's no, like, actual, like, couple ends up together song. Right.
Starting point is 00:18:45 Like, there's breakups. There's broken engagements. There's, like, a lover that there's murder. There's, like, a lover that doesn't feel appreciated. There's, like, the girl that goes to Hollywood and gets famous. and then she goes home and like there's no there. I feel like everyone here is a little bit of like a like a scorned lover in somewhere or another.
Starting point is 00:19:05 Every character is damaged. Yeah, totally. Yeah, you're absolutely right. So it's already a different vibe. I forget which one I was reading. It was either variety or Rolling Stone, but they called it goth folk, which I thought was interesting. Interesting.
Starting point is 00:19:18 I liked that. That is. I was like, ooh. I'm going to get a tattoo only right after this. Yeah. No, the fact that I had not gone into a tattoo parlor, like the past three days is insane. It's actually insane. So how do we want to grade these?
Starting point is 00:19:32 Do we want to waste of the end and rank our top songs? I think I prefer to rank. Give them grades. I mean, we can try to grade. I don't know if I can grade. Like, yeah. It's like, yo, like you're going to wrap back. Give me grades.
Starting point is 00:19:47 I can try to. I felt like I didn't talk to him a little bit. Let me throw something out there. Grade them, bitches. All right, let's do it. I don't even know. I'll give Willow. So my original Willow was, I believe, in A-plus-plus.
Starting point is 00:20:02 That seems too much. To be honest, that seems a lot. You'll grade them. Let's hear it. John. A-plus-plus. I think now with a sense of clarity and a little bit of a step away, I will give it a B-plus. Willow's an A for me.
Starting point is 00:20:20 This is what I do like this one a lot. I think I'm going also B-plus. I don't want to even go A range because there are so many that are A's to me. and Willow is not even like top five. Wellow's up there for me for 10. I wouldn't have it by top five. It's a great song. It's a good song and it's fun and it's cool.
Starting point is 00:20:34 And I'm sure I'm going to sing it for the rest of my fucking life in my head. Like I know I'm going to love this song. But right now B plus. That's the problem of the album as a whole. If folklore didn't exist, this album is an A plus plus plus plus. Yes, yes, yes. But I do think folklore is a little bit better. So I'm always comparing it to that.
Starting point is 00:20:49 But Willow would be, if we compare the two because they're sister albums, I don't even think Willow's in my top 15 songs. I agree. I agree with you. It's bottom five for sure. And it's still a great song. That's crazy. It's still very, very good. This is definitely, Evermore does feel like folklore is like sad sister. Yeah. You know? And you know, there are all those rumors that there's a third one. Oh. The third one rumors, I can. There's a third coming. Do you think that there really is? Do you think it's really going to be called Woodvale? Oh, I didn't. I don't know that. I just, I actually haven't done much of the, yes, you can.
Starting point is 00:21:25 I will say my theory is that. So, Woodvale, somebody said it's like the place that she loves, it's places she calls the lakes, or it's a place that's significant to her and Joe. I think her and Joe are married, and I think that they got married at Woodville, and I think that that's an Easter egg for that.
Starting point is 00:21:38 I don't think that there's a whole other album coming. There could be. That would be great, like a trilogy situation. However, that's what I feel. I feel that's more of an Easter egg as to like what's going on in her life versus what's to come. I'm so, if, I'm so on the fence
Starting point is 00:21:49 on if she's married. I don't think she is. I just like feeling she is for some reason. I don't know why I feel that way. I don't think so either. Yeah. I get that vibe somehow. Well, she says she references like her husband in one of the songs, like,
Starting point is 00:21:59 drink my husband's wine, I think, in the song happiness. Yeah, she does, but I just think she, I feel like she's giving us a little. Absolutely, but I really think after, the folklore was a test for all of us to see how we all reacted to it. And if we could deal with, like, her writing from other perspectives and when we all just, like, ate it up so hard, he was like, oh, I can go in on this even more. Like, I don't even know if any of these songs on this album have anything to do with Taylor Swift. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:24 Yeah. There was, there felt like more on, on folklore. Yes, on folklore. I was like they were actually all for me. Yeah. On folklore, I felt like there were songs that made sense
Starting point is 00:22:34 were coming from Taylor, like peace and songs like that. I was like, okay, this feels like she's actually talking about her life. With so many of these, I'm like, are any of these, her life? Maybe happiness a little bit, but.
Starting point is 00:22:47 If they were, then her and Joe are very much not together. Yeah, there's, if they are about her. Yeah. Or past, like past relationships. I don't know. I think Dorothea is the one that's mostly personal for her. I agree about that.
Starting point is 00:22:59 I read that it was about Selena Gomez. I know. We'll get there. Okay, we'll get there. But I'm, let's go champagne problems. Okay. Let's play some of champagne problems.
Starting point is 00:23:08 This is my favorite song. It's on the album. It's getting hard to be knocked out of my top one. What? Grated, I mean. We just did grade. No, no, you? Oh, you want me to grade Willow?
Starting point is 00:23:20 Well, I thought, really putting me out a spot here. Just so we have a complete. great rating system. Makes sense. I truly don't feel like I can give like a grade. Like I feel like a teacher who hasn't been too long enough to give.
Starting point is 00:23:33 Okay. I go B plus. Yeah, good idea. There is. Yeah. I agree also. Yeah. Me too, guys.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Okay. You're not sure. Because I dropped your hand while dancing. Left you out there standing. Crest falling on the land. I picture in you all. your heart was glass I dropped it
Starting point is 00:24:45 Champagne problem The song to me is so good And I thought it was gonna be like an upbeat song When I saw the name Just because it's like champagne problems And she's done it like three times She also did that with closure I thought it was gonna be like a sad song
Starting point is 00:25:01 And it was like a fuck you song But this song to me is like Just so fucking good The first line is What's also great And I'm surprised she hasn't done this already Is like right for a I don't know A movie or
Starting point is 00:25:15 TV show or something. So many of these songs could be turned into movies. Like Mamma Mia. TV shows. Like folklore could become, and I'm sure Evermore could too. Like they could become their own like Broadway play with all the songs to make some kind of story that they connected.
Starting point is 00:25:32 This song a little bit. You sang that just now. Like this song could slide into that movie someone great with um, fucking Britney Snow and. Yes. What the hell is everybody saying? It's so good. I don't even think they think of it.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Gina Rodriguez. On Netflix. Yes. It's so good. But there's a song in that movie they play. It's a reason's not to die by Ren Weaver. And it sounds a lot like this. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:53 Like that piano in the background or something about it. It sounds just like it. Which sounds, by the way, that piano sounds just like all too well. It's a great piano. And I do believe that's Joe. Joe's piano. Yes, it is. Because it is Taylor's William Bowery.
Starting point is 00:26:07 Yeah, William Bowery. And I think Taylor's obviously the lyric guy. But I think from what we heard Taylor talk about during folklore on Disney Plus is that Joe's like really good on the piano. Yeah. Really? Yeah. Oh yeah. Like really talented guy on the piano and she, like they even got involved in the first place with writing this stuff because she had heard him like playing the piano and being like
Starting point is 00:26:29 oh, I really like that. Like how do I ask him to? Yeah. I don't know that. Yeah. Yeah. So. It's very romantic. Yeah. So it does kind of seem like it seems like this is his piano. And I do like the end of this song too where there's like a little it's because it just sounds like she is singing it and he's sitting on the piano playing it because they do like a little progression and then he goes do do do do it gets like it gets intense there's um my favorite line in this song is the um she would have made such a lovely bride what a shame she was fucked in the head yeah Kelly you like that song huh yeah you think literally oh it's just
Starting point is 00:27:03 so good you guys I'm sorry it's just like and I also love when she curses like anytime Taylor curses I'm like he's fucking right bitch like yeah you say that that little e next to the song right yeah which by the way, when I first started listening to it when it came out, I was listening to the non-explicit version at first. I did the same thing. God, you listened to the clean version? I noticed like three songs in. I was like, what the fuck is this?
Starting point is 00:27:23 I thought the lyrics were wrong. I was reading along was like the genius. That's also how I was like, I forget what the clean is, but like something about being stuck. Yeah. And I'm like, she doesn't say fucked in the head. It's stuck. But this is just like, like you said, this song is a romantic
Starting point is 00:27:39 like the beginning of a romantic comedy where the college relationship ends, not even romantic comedy, probably just a romance that might have a depressing ending. Or like if there's some kind of redemption, but the college relationship that you stay in for too long and he is about to propose and you're like, oh, no. Yeah, it's like you've been dating for seven years. It's like very clear.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Like, oh, they're definitely going to get married. They're definitely going to get married. And then when it comes to it, it's like, well, actually, nope. I'm out. Like, got to go. Like my, my favorite line in it isn't about being fucked in the head despite it's accuracy. My, like, I love the opening line, which is, um, you book the night train for a reason
Starting point is 00:28:19 so you could sit there and it's hurt. And when you're sad and you do something to be more sad, which is like every time you're sad, I'm going to get sadder real quick. Yeah, yeah. Like, I would book the night train so I could sit there in this hurt while I listen to this and just weep and have like an AM track employee, but are you okay? Yeah. Yeah, I mean, that's great.
Starting point is 00:28:40 It's similar to like, let me just put my headphones in and walk around New York and until I can't feel my legs anymore. It's that same vibe. Okay. Grade-wise, champagne problems is an A-plus for me. A-plus. A-plus as well for me. Same.
Starting point is 00:28:55 Hard agree. You guys are so pure and lovely. Honestly, I was staying back, and I was like getting emotional looking at you guys. I was like, really enjoying themselves. When we started playing champagne problems, I almost interrupted the music, but it didn't because I respect Taylor. And I just wanted to say, I'm having a lot of fun. sitting here with my pals, listening to Taylor Swift.
Starting point is 00:29:15 John, that's lovely. I'm having like a really nice Sunday right now. Maybe he is lovely after all. That's so sweet. Everybody has such a nice time on our show, Fran. It's true. I always have so much fun coming here. We always joke with Trent when we do the Bachelorette stuff that like eventually he's
Starting point is 00:29:29 going to get tired of us and like we feel bad when we keep him here so late on Tuesdays to record and he's like, no guys. Like this is the best part of my leave you don't understand. Stop like, no, I really love doing this guys. It honestly, like, I get emotional over those things. It brings it tear to my eye. It is nice. All right.
Starting point is 00:29:47 Noah play Gold Rush, please. It's my favorite part. Yeah, this is a good. I like the sound of this song. Yeah. I also said that it's... Just that first beginning. What?
Starting point is 00:30:58 Yeah, yeah, it's nice. And I think it's a really good car song. I also like that's got that, like, chaotic vibe behind it in, like, a good way. Like, it gets your blood pumping, but not, like, too high, you know? It's very operatic. Yeah. Like, when the key changes are, like, like, oh, like, it's... But I don't like it
Starting point is 00:31:15 Yeah, whatever But I don't It's, I will say it's probably my least favorite song in the album It's just too Jack Antinoffy I did see you say that And maybe I do, maybe I like Jack Antonoff More than I thought I did, but this is one of my favorite ones Really?
Starting point is 00:31:30 Yeah, yeah I feel a lot of people are thinking that A lot of people say that Really? Only because I love I love the sad Taylor Which I But I also need like
Starting point is 00:31:41 A couple that give me a little boppy feeling. Yeah. This is a little older taste of Taylor to me where it's not, because I like that we get, she hasn't gone fully completely
Starting point is 00:31:54 where it's like, I don't recognize this person at all. Like this still to me, I'm like, this is Taylor Swift. I get it. I think it's fair to say. I like a Taylor Swift song
Starting point is 00:32:02 that sounds like Taylor Swift. Yes. It has fair to say. Right. Which why to me I'm like, I still really like this one. It's whimsical. I like it.
Starting point is 00:32:09 And I do like a little more synthetic. be sometimes to the back. I like it also because it kind of based on the lyrics sounds a little jealous. It's almost like, yeah, like I don't want to, like, everybody wants you. Like, I don't fucking, like, I don't like a bull rush. She also says with my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door on this. And that could be, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:28 She's probably not talking about the Philadelphia Eagles, but I'm going to pretend. Oh, of what she was talking about? You think? Yeah, 100%. She's from Pennsylvania. Yeah, that's true. Yeah, but not close to Philly. She's 1,000% talking about it.
Starting point is 00:32:41 think? Yeah, she has some Westerns. She's more of a Steelers area, right? I was going to say to her. But, no, but, I mean, like, it was never even in doubt. I just thought immediately. Of course, she said on Eagles. Hmm.
Starting point is 00:32:50 Yeah. I mean, what else would it be? Eagles. The band? Yeah. No, I was literally thinking the band. Well. No.
Starting point is 00:32:56 No. Nope. My mind's been made up. Hey, John, if you say that, I'm down because that's what I wanted to be. I'm going to be. I'm going to be sitting here and just looking at Carly Clause and Taylor Swift kissing. I've just been sitting here.
Starting point is 00:33:08 You can send them over here if you'd like. Yeah, like, where are those at? I'm just trying to, like, you know, every once in while you think about that relationship and you're like, did it happen? You sit there and you start looking at the pictures. And you're like, yep. I think it did. Let me just see it real quick.
Starting point is 00:33:20 I mean, hottest relationships of all time if it was true. I don't know. I've ever seen it. Oh, those were them at the concert that they were kissing. Oh, yeah. Oh, happens me. Oh, yeah. Those are the only ones, I think, that like really perpetuated the rumors.
Starting point is 00:33:34 That's really the only hard proof. Yes, yes. Everything else is speculation. To me that would like some two. I feel like it would just be like, I don't know, just like beautiful. Kelly, don't you remember the rumors like a couple years ago that she was going to like come out on the cover of Rolling Stone? It was going to be like this whole thing. Coming on on Rolling Stone.
Starting point is 00:33:52 She's going to be on Ellen as bisexual. It was right before she dropped lover. Everybody was like she's going to come out as bisexual. And then it was like, nope, I'm basically just married to Joe Alwin and like don't ever talk about Carly Culls again. Exact opposite. I mean, these two, they. Oh, I love it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:09 And they also just kind of look the same. It is romantic. I think that's why I like to look the same. I feel like if that were me, I would like to hook up with somebody that looks like me. Just to know what it's like to fuck you. Yeah, kind of. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Ria, you're right. It's literally exactly why. All right. So you guys don't really like Gold Rush. So I'm interesting to see grade-wise where you put this. Personally, I probably like same plain as Willow, B-plus. Oh, I was going to go a little lower. I was going to go B-minus.
Starting point is 00:34:37 Okay. That's fair. And if we're being on. I was going to go C plus, but I changed it because of you. Gold Rush is it is an A. I'm just a funny for me. A solid A. Like this is one that I've listened. Like I have listened from start
Starting point is 00:34:49 to finish a bunch of times, but like you know, there's certain songs that sometimes you start with that aren't like the first song and Gold Rush I've played more than I think a lot of the other ones. Oh really? That's interesting. Yeah. I'm going with an interesting. I had someone I follow, she's
Starting point is 00:35:05 a Patriots Beat reporter, I believe. I'm not sure exactly what she does. She works in football But she tweeted I'm going to play Gold Rush next to a baby's crib And that baby's first words will be Jack Nantinnov's too much
Starting point is 00:35:21 I saw that also that Yeah, too is too much It's very funny B minus Okay Yep that's what we're going on with Fair all right I was going to take C plus
Starting point is 00:35:32 Then I was like Why piss people off Okay Track 4 is tis the damn season. I like this song so much more than I thought I would because somebody made the comparison being like she did a collaboration with Becca on this one
Starting point is 00:35:50 like fucking like do the damn thing Becca from The Bachelor and I was like fuck that ruins the song but it doesn't the song is great. I like to know who you were hanging with while I was gone I would have all the same to you call me babe for the weekend tis the damn see. I like this one.
Starting point is 00:36:28 Am I like a rea? I used to have like a punk rock song that's soft. Can I have, can I make a confession real quick? Yes, you made. I was listening to Taylor in the shower the other day, and I dabbed listening to this. At what part? You can call me Bays for the weekend, because that's where I would dab if it were me. That was fantastic.
Starting point is 00:36:52 Thank you for divulging that to us, John. Appreciate that. I thought maybe that was going to be it. Oh, yeah. That was good. It fit perfectly. It's fantastic. Thank you for saying it fit perfectly.
Starting point is 00:37:21 It really did. John, let me ask you, do you pretend that you're in a music video when you listen to songs? No, not always, sometimes for sure. You know what? Honestly, I would say I pretend I'm in a movie a lot when I'm listening to music. I don't think music video very a lot. Okay. And I also, I agree with you on that.
Starting point is 00:37:41 And I do that as well, but only when I'm, like, walking with my headphones in. If I'm walking, I'm like, I am in a movie. Driving even more. Oh, don't get me started. Don't get me started on driving. But walking is more of my every day. And that is when I think I'm in a movie. I pretty much live a fake life.
Starting point is 00:37:54 Most of the time. When I'm playing music, I am in an alternate reality. 100%. Either a movie, it's a music video, it's a TV show. I can agree more. I have friends that, you know, you guys have never even met. Now I'm sounding crazy. No, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:38:07 It's an active imagination. Keep that going. Don't stifle it. There was one time, it was, what was they listening to? It's called Hail to the Chief. I'm forgetting his name. It's by fuck, what's his name?
Starting point is 00:38:20 I have no idea what you're talking about. Not a clue. But anyway, it's a song where I was walking down an airport like a jetway and I was like, I am a king. You're like on a rock star? I'm a literal movie star. I am walking to my private jet
Starting point is 00:38:36 and I was literally in the last row by the toilet. Sometimes sometimes you just got to make yourself to get that. Southwest flight that I bought for $80 probably. I was in boarding class D. I was like, God damn, being rich is nice. Oh, did your big headphones on like you're going into like a Patriot practice or some shit.
Starting point is 00:38:58 That's you. God damn it. This song I love. This is very much in the vein of her being like writing in someone else's perspective, I think, because it's obviously about her. Connected to Dorothea too. She said that this is like Dorothea coming home. And like fucking her boyfriend from home. I don't, if that's not relatable, I don't know what the fuck is.
Starting point is 00:39:16 Like that is going home, especially after college and then hitting up like your ex-boyfriend from high school who you don't even really like but they're there and whatever and like maybe you show up drunk, whatever and like, you know. Oh, yeah. Yeah. That's super relatable. So, but I don't, but I can't take Taylor going back to like wherever the fucking. The only not relatable thing is that the girl is like famous.
Starting point is 00:39:36 Yes, yes. Or trying to be famous. Right. It's like I'll go back to L.A. and like my friends will write about me. Yeah, there's no. Yeah. Yeah. That part is like, okay, well, whatever.
Starting point is 00:39:44 It's like kind of big star coming back to small town. Yeah, yeah. Maybe. For sure. Hey, that could be us. People from our town probably think we're stars. Big stars. That's true.
Starting point is 00:39:53 That's true. Big stars. No, I'm kidding. Me and my friends like we always say that way. We're not even Z-list. Me and my high school friends always say like, oh, we're the celebrities of Flemington. Like we are self-proclaimed. And I don't know what other people that we know like say about us behind her backs,
Starting point is 00:40:05 but I'm sure they call us assholes for something. That's how you know. What are your other friends do? Like you, yes. You have an argument. They do nothing. They just, we all just get drunk and hang out. all the time.
Starting point is 00:40:14 We do nothing. It's only me. They listen to hails the chief while I get on planes. Yes, literally. I like this one. Sometimes I get confused and I obviously like it didn't make sense to me until listening to the whole thing through because this song does come before Dorothea.
Starting point is 00:40:33 So I was like, what's the connection here? So you have to listen to it first. But I like this one, but it's. You and I are on different pages on this album. Yeah. I love this. I love this one too, yeah. No, not the song.
Starting point is 00:40:46 I love you guys being on different pages. I like this one. It's like a B plus for me. Okay. I mean, I'll be a plus. Yeah, that's fair. Yeah, that's fair. I'm going to go just straight A.
Starting point is 00:40:57 I don't want to give it the A plus because I have other songs I want to give A plus too. So I'll give it just straight A. Okay. I'm going A plus. Yeah, you are. Love Aria. Love you get passionate about it. Oh, that felt so good.
Starting point is 00:41:09 Oh, wait. Also, I wrote this down and I forgot. I think it was the variety article that I read. said that they were describing the way that she writes in other people's perspectives as empathetic wandering, which I also fucking love. Like all these people are so smart coming up with these terms. I wish I had my tattoo gun on me. Literally, like, I never seen something like that.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Empathetic wandering. And I was like, wow. Well, even just the one line of like to leave the warmest bed I've ever known and you're just like, oh, right. Leaving home. Oh, I don't think of it like that. Oh, I think about like her high school boyfriend. Me too. Like a comfortable thing.
Starting point is 00:41:43 Oh, okay. Oh, no. No, not my home. Oh, no, no, no. It's the opposite of how I feel. Yeah. Literally, I'm like, mm.
Starting point is 00:41:50 No, I'm thinking more so like the comfortability. The hard I know I'm breaking is my own to leave the warmest bed I've ever known. Oh. Yeah. God. I love you so much. And you give this a B plus?
Starting point is 00:42:05 Excuse you. She's saving it. She's saving it. I'm going to bully you into an A minus. I know. No, don't. You know what? I like when Fran is honest.
Starting point is 00:42:12 The lyrics. The lyrics. Yes. There are great lyrics in this song, but there were lyrics in other ones that pierced me harder. That's fair to say. Shall we move on to track five tolerated? This is perfect example. I don't know if I might cry in this replay right now.
Starting point is 00:42:28 I don't know if I can even listen to it in this moment. Go ahead, Noah. Like I might cry. Just have why not sad as fuck. I'm in a music video right now. I'm already crying. Tearing up a little bit. Sit and watch you reading with your waking watch you breathe and.
Starting point is 00:43:03 with your eyes closed. I sit and watch you and notice everything die. I know it goes without saying, but she sounds fantastic. It sounds so good. Like it's just angelic
Starting point is 00:43:34 and she sounded like that on folklore too where you weren't used to having her sound like that but you know what it kind of gives me vibes of sometimes? Do you guys have it? This is so ridiculous. Have you ever heard or listened to the Celtic women? It's like an Irish thing.
Starting point is 00:43:45 They're singing that like, I can't even know. mimic it. It's so high. But it's like beautiful and it's ethereal in that way. Yeah. And this is how she's making, she's like reminding me about it. It kind of reminds me of wildest dreams. Yeah. Yes.
Starting point is 00:43:58 A little bit. Look at you. Okay. 1989 is truly one of my favorite albums ever from any artist. And I'm not like, you know, like I said, not Taylor Swift fan. And that's what's crazy. It's crazy. Every diehard Taylor Swift fan never mentioned 1989 is her favorite album.
Starting point is 00:44:14 And weirdly enough, it's one of my favorite albums by anyone ever. Like I love it. I love that album so much. I know every word to every song on that album. I love everything she does, obviously. But I don't think it's in my top five of her album. No, it never is for anybody. And I am obsessed with it.
Starting point is 00:44:29 I love it. It's very, very good. That album also came out, I think, like, right when I moved to New York, it was like the mood of mood. You know, like, it was very, like, I don't know. I was going through a time. Yeah, I was going through, yeah, yeah, yeah. But this song, tolerate it is like, first of all, I was very high when I wrote all these notes, which is why they're weird.
Starting point is 00:44:43 But I wrote endless tears and rejection. I also drew teeth. years just to really put that home. Yeah, yeah. I was just doing, you know. Yeah, whatever. I was crying and writing notes. What do you want?
Starting point is 00:44:56 There was some, my sister had told me this that I guess on Twitter, people were talking about, like people were making jokes like, did Taylor write this after watching season four of the crown? Like, is this about Princess Diana? Look at her. Diana, three question marks. Literally. Is this Princess Diana? I saw that theory and it almost made me cry harder because I had just watched. When I saw that, I saw that, I was like.
Starting point is 00:45:17 so many Diana things like three days ago? That is fitting. I'm going to act like that is what it is about because it does feel like that is exactly where it is. She's writing style and she's writing from the perspective of Princess fucking Diana who was so underappreciated by that trash bag Charles. I don't care what anybody says. I'm with you. Fuck him.
Starting point is 00:45:33 Fuck Camilla. Forever. Holy shit fuck Camilla. Go off. Go off. I fucking hate Camilla. I think the queen's going to hopefully knock on what live forever. I hope she fucking does.
Starting point is 00:45:44 Just despite him for being a dickhead. I hope she outlived Charles. I wanted outlive Charles so fucking. He doesn't deserve anything. I hate his trash ads. We hate Charles. I have no idea what we're talking about. Me? Oh, the royal family.
Starting point is 00:45:55 Yes, I know who Princess Diana is, but I don't know anything about her. So Charles was like, they were on his dick to get married because they're like, you have to start producing airs, whatever you're next in line. It's like, let's go. And he wanted to be with this woman, Camilla. She was married. She was married. And they were having an affair for a long time. And it was a whole thing.
Starting point is 00:46:11 And the queen was like, well, I think she eventually got divorced. And then he wasn't allowed to marry her because she was married her because she was married. She was already married though And like they had this thing going on But Camilla very much was also like happy in her Not happy but like She was cheating on him no She was like she was like content in her marriage
Starting point is 00:46:31 Where she was like that's my real life And this kind of thing with Charles is never going to happen Because it's like a fantasy role like It can't divorce my husband and be with Charles That was like out of the realm of possibility And then 32 year old Prince Charles married 20 year old Diana and it was like very
Starting point is 00:46:50 it was like six months super quick you don't even realize like how rushed that really was he just like randomly dated her sister before that and then knew that she was around and that she was of age and single so he was like basically I pick you and she was kind of like very like very beautiful but like
Starting point is 00:47:06 they couldn't be any more different like they were so so different and it was like a terrible relationship I just have watched I watched so many documentaries I watched all the crown. I watched all the documentaries on Netflix. He became, like, obsessed with Princess Diana after watching it.
Starting point is 00:47:21 Same. I've been, I didn't do it today, but I have been, like, doing, like, blue eyeliner in my waterline because Diana used to do it. Like,
Starting point is 00:47:27 I literally have been doing that for, like, weeks now. It's weird. It's psycho shit. Like, I've been watching a lot of it. And so when I heard this song, I was like, wow, I personally feel it, like on my own level.
Starting point is 00:47:35 And then I read the theory about Diana. And I was like, oh, fuck. Like, this song is great. Actually, fuck Charles. Like, I might go play it outside fucking in Puck and Palace. Like, fuck you. It's, I was going to say, like, it's not about Diana. It's about me.
Starting point is 00:47:50 Yeah, yeah, of course. It's just like, this is the most, like, easy to understand one. Like, I'm in love with someone who just doesn't love me as much as I love them. Yep. And it is. Oh, my crommation. Isn't it? Like, I do everything I can to make them love it, and they just don't.
Starting point is 00:48:13 And, like, just reading these again. I'm literally going to cry. While you were out building other worlds Where was I? Where's that man who throw blankets Over my barbed wire? I made you my temple, my mural, my sky Now I'm begging for footnotes in the story of your life.
Starting point is 00:48:27 What's the part? I'm begging for footnotes in the story of your life. Yeah, that is a beautiful lyric. It is so good. That's so good. Like who used to throw, I'm sorry, what was it over the barbed wire? Is it blankets?
Starting point is 00:48:40 Yeah. Yeah, who would throw blankets over my barbed wire and now I'm just asking for even a little bit of acknowledgement? Just something. It's tragic. It's so tragic. So fucking sad. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:48:53 It's so fucking sad. I don't even. He's actually crying and I think Ria's reaction is worse. Ria's just staring blankly. Like, oh my God. Are you feeding off on my sadness? My heart just got ripped out of me.
Starting point is 00:49:04 I feel like my sadness is like palpable. And also the lyric I love when something just makes so much sense. Oh yeah. Like when Kanye West said none of us would be here without. come. And I was like, yeah, that's correct. You know? Big facts.
Starting point is 00:49:21 Oh, man. Big facts. Bringing that lyric into this discussion is such an insult to tell. Swift. I did that on purpose. I know you guys. I know me that I did that on purpose. If I was already starting tears in the mood, okay?
Starting point is 00:49:36 Thank you for that. I appreciate that. For all we being thinking about our exes that we really wanted to be with. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm just like out of your talking. talking about we're here because of come. That's all right.
Starting point is 00:49:49 Whenever I'm feeling sad and I feel like, you know, the world's evolving around me, I'll remember that. Yep. But yeah, no, the lyrics in this one are just from start to finish, like, incredible. So for that reason, even the last like chorus or whatever, she says, it almost turns around where she says, break free and leave us in ruins, took this dagger in me and removed it, gained the weight of you then lose it. Believe me, I could do it being like, I could make this fine, but I'm still just like,
Starting point is 00:50:11 I'm so wrapped up in this feeling. And I can't get it. It's so good. And you know what's crazy? Like you say at the end it kind of turns around a little bit. I feel like that is, it's always bad in like the trope about Taylor. She writes about breakups and blah, blah, blah. I feel like between folklore and Evermore, they're more uplifting her breakup songs.
Starting point is 00:50:31 Her like her gut-wrenching songs do have a light at the end of the time. Like Death by Thousand Cuts was like the saddest fucking song on Earth that it's very upbeat and I will sing it but I'll still cry. But even like the one, like the one on folklore. Yeah. The one is like it's about how, you know, like they were perfect. They should have been together and it didn't work out. And, but like, and that's okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:52 And I feel like she had like most of her breakup songs now are like, and that's all right. Like, and we'll end. It's a lot of, it's a lot of acceptance. It's a lot of acceptance. Well. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that I feel, that's another one where she's just like telling a story.
Starting point is 00:51:03 I mean, we can move on to that. No, absolutely. No crime with me. But I think with these, some of these songs, like, I respect them so much lyrically where I'm like, that is a beautiful song. Will I listen to it all the time? Probably not. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:13 Because it's like, you know, and that's why I feel would tolerate it. It's a beautiful, it's an A plus song. Like, that's an A plus. That's an A plus. But like, it's not one that I listed to do all the time because it's just, just, just. The song's so good. I bought the song. Oh my goodness.
Starting point is 00:51:27 Wow. Wow. Yeah. I did buy the $40 candle. I bought the candle. I bought, I bought, I bought the candle. I bought the $600. I bought the vinyl.
Starting point is 00:51:36 I'm really, it's all going to be here 22 weeks from now. Yeah. Same with me. I forgot to hit the split shipping. I'm waiting for the email back from Universal Music. group to see if they can send me my sweatsher earlier than earlier than it was like this I was literally sleep purchasing that at 145 on Thursday be like merch I need it's the only way I was very close to buying the socks I mean they're great socks yeah they looked like great socks man so can I just
Starting point is 00:52:02 voice a complaint I don't know what these music labels are doing and how they can't ship merch like at a normal time it's every single artist for someone who buys a ton of artist merch like Taylor Swift George Brothers, Beber, Harry Styles. Like, it takes months to get your stuff. It's really insane. I ordered this sweatsh and a vinyl on literally July 24th. Oh, I got it like three weeks ago. Not even three.
Starting point is 00:52:28 Yeah, I would say two. I had to email them December 1st. To change my address because I moved house. Oh, fuck. Yeah, that's right. Like, I was like, I don't even live there anymore. Oh, no. Now when I buy stuff, I send it like to my parents' houses.
Starting point is 00:52:40 I'm like, I know they'll be there. I don't know we're all being in five months, but I know that someone will get it. Exactly. With folklore and evermore, I give a bit of a pass because that's not like, you know, there was no plan at all. Right, it was like. It was surprised. Even to the record label, it was a surprise. If you were doing a regular album, you've been thinking about that.
Starting point is 00:52:57 You've been working on that for quite some time. They got to, like, figure it out. Figure it out. Okay. So A plus is all around for tolerated. Let's play No Body, No Crime, Fearing. Haim? Ham?
Starting point is 00:53:09 Don't know. I always say Haim. Hame the band. I say Hame as well. I don't know if that's right. That's true. Okay, sure. I think Hame the band is what I've heard.
Starting point is 00:53:17 Yep. I need up every Tuesday night with dinner and a glass of a wine. Estes. Been losing sleep. Her husband's acting different and it smells like infidelity. She says, that ain't my Merlo on his mouth. I ain't my jewelry on our joint account. No, there ain't no doubt.
Starting point is 00:54:02 I think I'm going to call him out. She says, I think he did it. But I just can't. But I just can't. But I just can't. Nobody, no crime. But I ain't letting up until the bird. Okay.
Starting point is 00:54:33 So, yeah, we can cut it off there. There's a good Olive Garden line, but we'll let it go. It's, it's, obviously, it's very much. I have really good redsets. I've only been one time. I've been a lot of times. Yeah, it's very good. My brother and I go a lot.
Starting point is 00:54:48 So this is like a full story. I mean, this is another one that you could, like, make an entire show or movie out of. It's not, this one to me is not, like, this is like a separate song from Taylor's. It feels very, very country-esque. It's very, like, scorned woman country song where that ends in murder or maiming of some kind. People were saying that it's a throwback a little bit to goodbye Earl by the Dixie Chick. I fucking love that song, by the way. And because she had the Dixie Chicks on the Lover album, it's like, oh, maybe.
Starting point is 00:55:17 It does kind of seem, it seems a little goodbye Earl. I feel like it's more Carrie Underwood because Carrie Underwood's love is murdering people. Yeah, that's true. She does. She do be loving that. It is a good mix. Now, this, it's, none of you guys are going to relate to what I'm about to say, but I'm going to
Starting point is 00:55:36 say anyway, because I think that my Jarz Brothers fans listening will get it. So the Jarz Brothers have a song called Don't Charge Me for the Crime with Common. That is maybe the worst song that they have ever created. Common, like common? Like common, yes. Okay. And so at the beginning of that song, there's also
Starting point is 00:55:59 sirens. And my friend Claire said this to our group and I'm, you know, she had said it to us and was like, I don't think I can like, I don't think I can get to that point with no body, no crime because I have PTSD from the sirens from from this song. That's funny actually. It's the same kind of thing where it's like, it's the same like, it's the same like sirens in the back and I had no idea I could you not this is the worst song they've ever put out I had no idea this exists
Starting point is 00:56:31 but like just the names I feel like are similar nobody no crime don't charge you for the crime I'm like already I'm out on this one I can't do it I can't do it I was out on it kind of like from the beginning again I'm not you know don't tell anybody I said this but I'm not really a huge Hame the band fan
Starting point is 00:56:44 I just am not I never I haven't honestly to be fair given them a real guy I've tried it's not for me the only song I like which I think is by them is the now I'm in it but that's like a remix, like, high, upbeat song. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:57 And that's, like, a fine song, but it's not even my favorite. This is, like, it's just not, I don't know. I think this is my least favorite song. It is. It's a skip. Bottom, my bottom. It's like, um, uh, exile on folklore is a skip for me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:11 This is a skip too. Exile is not a skip for me, but it's, actually it is, but only. Yeah, it was one of my favorites when it started when the first came out. Yeah. No, see, I don't think it's that sad. Oh, no. I think it's sad as fuck. I'll get into Bonnie there on.
Starting point is 00:57:23 when we get to Evermore. But the, but yeah, this is just a skip. This is not a very good song. I don't think it. And I think we can have a larger conversation about how it's problematic in country music
Starting point is 00:57:34 that women always murder their lovers. And everyone's like, I love except. The Carrie Underwood will be out of a job. They always, you know what though? But do you listen to the lyrics? You listen to the songs.
Starting point is 00:57:43 They always fucking deserve it. Like this guy. No, see, problematic. Problematic. No. What are you talking about? Taylor and her friends,
Starting point is 00:57:51 her bestie, Esty, was literally murdered by her husband. And now he moved in the mistress. She's sleeping in her bed. It's a fucking ridiculous. No. No. Then where'd she go?
Starting point is 00:57:59 And all of a sudden he meets in this mistress. No, no, no, no, no. I'm on the side of the murderers. I'm on the side of the murderer. In this one, yes. It is assumed that he's a murderer. Thank you. Of course, yes, you deserve.
Starting point is 00:58:09 But Carrie Underwood, again, if we want to have a larger conversation. She's a little crazy, I think. She's got, she's like, oh, he cheated on me. I'm going to literally fucking kill him and have two black Cadillacs. I love her for that. I'm going to show up at the. This one goes back and forth. It's not even.
Starting point is 00:58:23 Even like we murdered the husband. It's like we suspect the husband. Then the husband murders the wife. And then we murder him to get back for murdering the... Right. Yeah. Like what's the wife? The last...
Starting point is 00:58:36 So just avenged. Yeah. The last verse of this is almost overly murderous. Like, it's like, thank God my dad taught me how to drive a boat. Well, he said, I wasn't letting up until the day he and then I paused. Oh, yeah. Thank God I got a boating license. It's like, thank God I got a boating license.
Starting point is 00:58:51 And thank God I have, like, cleaned so much. I know how to like that. Like, you have a crime basically. It's like the lyric. You're right. By the way, he bled a lot. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:01 Yes. Yes. Yes. I know when it's up the body. I know how to clean up and also gets rich now. It's also funny because sometimes I think lyrics aren't this detailed. You know, with like actual specific details. It's like, oh, I killed him.
Starting point is 00:59:15 Did I kill him? Like very wishy-washy kind of buzzwordy. But this is like, no, I have, I had a boating license. I was 15. I can clean up a crime scene. We're talking about life insurance policies. Like, it's very detailed. No, I dumped him in the lakes.
Starting point is 00:59:28 Well, that's what I said. He's in the lakes. Remember the bonus track on the last album? Yeah. Yeah, he's down there. That's like in, I keep going back, goodbye Earl. It's probably the only other song I can think of that so graphically describes. Like, like, wrapped up in that tarp, like, shoot, they say.
Starting point is 00:59:44 They also say, like, stuff you in the truck. And then also, like, are you feeling weak? The food tasted all right to me. Like, it's very much like, I'm poisoning you. Those are the lyrics. Yeah, it's a great song. Those are the lyrics. They're like, I poisoned you.
Starting point is 00:59:57 I stuffed you in a truck. I wrapped you in a tarp. And then I threw you, like, threw you down some quarry. And now I'm fine, like, with my girlfriends. That's the end of the song. It's like, yeah. It's a really good song. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:06 Well, yeah, this is, this is Dixie Tricks. Carrier. We're falling into, like, this is the stuff I think Taylor really likes because she makes up this whole fictional world. Yeah. Which is what she talked about, being able to, like, really dive into these stories. So, with that being said, this, this, One is like a C for me.
Starting point is 01:00:27 I'm giving it like a C minus, I think. I would give it an F if I was like not being rude. Yeah. Or if I was trying not to be rude. I think C. I think it's a C. It's a solid. In a Taylor C in a C of A pluses, it sticks out as like real.
Starting point is 01:00:42 Because it is. And honestly, when Noah started playing it, I was like, actually this is better than I remember. Yeah, it's catchy. But it is just surrounded by great songs. So it falls behind. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Okay, let's take a brief moment to talk about figs.
Starting point is 01:00:59 Because right now, Figgs is celebrating the awesome healthcare professionals putting themselves on the front lines this holiday season. They are the new icons, the risk takers doing more than we could ever imagine whose game literally never stops. And we want them to be in the best scrubs that they could possibly be in, which is Figgs. Figs are supremely, they have a supremely functional, focus on design and comfort. They have this proprietary Fion X fabric, which features a Salvador
Starting point is 01:01:31 anti-microbial and four-way stretch technology. Sounds like a lot of big words, but really what I say is that it's moisture wicking, anti-wrinkle, and ridiculously, ridiculously soft. We have heard great things from those who wear figs. Obviously, Ria and I ourselves are not wearing them, but we know firsthand that figs are so. great and they make a great gift. They have lots of pockets.
Starting point is 01:01:58 Some of their styles include over 10 pockets, which is so, so useful right now. And they look good. They look good. They're comfortable. They're inspired by like very cool athleisure style right now. So they are fantastic. There is also accessories. You can get the face mask that comes in tons of different colors as well.
Starting point is 01:02:15 They also have lab coats, jackets, compression socks, and accessories. And right now they awarded five lucky recipients, $250,000 to help pay off med school. loans for their new icons grant. So whether it's donating over 35,000 sets of scrubs to hospitals hardest hit by the coronavirus or donating $100,000 to organizations that support Black Americans pursuing careers in medicine, Figgs shows up for their community. Figs wants you to wear the scrubs you deserve and enjoy 15% off your first order using code Chicks 15 at checkout. All right, track 7 is Happiness. We won't play the whole song because it is over five minutes. It's a really long song. It's also one of my favorites.
Starting point is 01:03:12 It's an emotional marathon this song. Oh, it's, ugh. In my veins. Shit, we're divided enough. Even shit. Yeah, I just love it. I know, I'm like, ooh. Yeah, I was like, I'm anxious that.
Starting point is 01:03:52 Say it. Dancing when the music stopped. And in the disbelief, I can't face reinvention. There'll be happiness after you. But there was happiness because of you. Both of these things can be true. There is happiness. Pass the blood
Starting point is 01:04:26 As the curses and cries Beyond the terror in the nightfall Wanted by the look in my eyes That would have loved you for a lifetime Leave it all behind Okay There's so much This song is like
Starting point is 01:04:49 It's beautiful And And happy, kind of Like the whole discussion of happiness and how there's even happiness in past relationships and like but still very like still depressing. I think it goes back to your
Starting point is 01:05:08 you still listen being like oh it's supposed to have a silver lining. Back to what you're saying about. It's almost like just playing a joke on us between champagne problems and this. She's like what is it I can't think of the meme but it's almost like champagne problems and happiness and you're like
Starting point is 01:05:23 you're going like all right this might be like a Taylor Bob yeah. She just opens the door and she's like bitch you thought. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, it's, it's the, it's the surprise bitch. That's one it is. Yes, yes, yes.
Starting point is 01:05:33 Surprise bitch. It's my favorite meme of all time, by the way. It's just, it's cool. Another question one. It's supposed to back, I think you said it before, John. It's like, break-up songs are supposed to be upbeat, but not really. Like this to me, or I'm sorry, and have also become more of like accepting than, like, within anything. This is very much like that, I think, in the, even the words of, like, there was happiness after you, there's happiness because of you.
Starting point is 01:05:57 Both things can be true. Because I feel like sometimes not hurt pun from personal experience. Yeah. I feel like sometimes people can be like, I can't be responsible for your happiness. And that's why like this is like if your shit that's going on with you is like too much and I can't be responsible for it. And so you kind of feel like, oh no. Right. Now my heart is broken and nothing will ever get better.
Starting point is 01:06:15 But it's okay to think like, okay, like you were the cause of my happiness then. Yeah. But I can still be happy after you. Right. Yeah. Or you think about like an ex relationship and you're so used to talking about an ex and a bad way or being like oh that was such a tough like that that that relationship didn't work was awful but this song is like yeah you had a bad relationship but there was you can still find
Starting point is 01:06:40 happy moments that you had during that relationship so maybe you should focus on the yeah you can like some things can be okay so i don't know but like some of these this this is why i say that like she's lines like i can't make it go away by making you a villain like it's like oh i could i can hate you you could be that guy in my life. My favorite. My favorite's the tell me when your winning smile begin to look like a smirk. When did all our lessons start looking like weapons pointed out my deepest hurt?
Starting point is 01:07:06 Oh, I can go all day. This is my favorite one. No one teaches you what to do when a good man hurts you and you know you hurt him too. That's sad. That is tough because it's like when from the outside you're like, you are a good person, but I hate your guts. Like I know that. Or not even that I fucking hate you.
Starting point is 01:07:27 It's almost like I'm just so, like you are just not on my brain anymore. Like I just, I am not interested in you in the slightest. And I feel like you are definitely in love with me still. And I just like, I can't do it. Like it's just too much. And it's very sad. I think there's a lot. I think these two albums, because again, they're sister albums.
Starting point is 01:07:43 I think they both showed like musically a lot of growth and maturity and all that. But I think even more so lyrically. I wrote in my notes. She feels grown. Look at us. Yeah. Same page. I think everything is because like, again, again,
Starting point is 01:07:56 Like when you're a kid and when you're younger, you always think like every breakup. It's like, fuck them to the worst person ever. I hate them. But like, it's okay to just be with someone for X period of time. And then be like, look, we had fun together. And it didn't work out. And I don't hate you. I don't wish you death.
Starting point is 01:08:12 I don't, I'm not going to call you crazy all the time. Like, it's just, it just didn't work out with us. And that's, and I feel like heard the message in almost, particularly her sad songs, but in most of her songs, they're like, and that's okay. Yeah. It's very much that. It's that okay. And that's okay.
Starting point is 01:08:28 I also think it's interesting. With this song, I feel like she does a little bit with champagne problems too, where she writes from the perspective of her being the bad guy a little bit. Like I feel like a lot of the time, Taylor will say things that make her feel like the victim
Starting point is 01:08:39 or like she's the one that's been wronged in her songs and whatever. But she like in champagne problems, she sort of like says that whole thing is her fault. This she kind of implies it's both their faults. Like she's now, and in folklore as well, taking like responsibility for her own emotions. which I feel like is something I personally
Starting point is 01:08:57 I never took responsibility for my own emotions for a really long time now it's like all right fine whatever but I also think it's for yeah and for recognizing the other person's feelings like I feel like so all of early Taylor and all of her early songwriting was like that man made a mistake and I'm right and he's wrong
Starting point is 01:09:15 I'm the scorn person here and like let's get him and it's always but now it seems like these songs and maybe it's also because she is now putting like she's writing from other people's voices and writing from different kinds of people that now these songs about her relationships it's not just one-sided.
Starting point is 01:09:33 She puts both sides into it a lot more. It's not just one-sided. Yeah. That's a good way to say it. Which is interesting. It's very, so, this song is beautiful. It's another one that is really hard to listen to again. Ria's like, I'm online shopping.
Starting point is 01:09:50 Yeah. Yeah. So, okay. I'm glad you've, By the way, I'm happy you pointed out earlier how good she sounds. Because I think she sounds great. Sounds beautiful. Very, very good.
Starting point is 01:10:01 So, but this is another one that's like lyrically for me. Fantastic. Well, I listen to it a lot. Probably not because it's five minutes of just like stomping on your heart. Yeah, it's sad. This is a lot. This is an A for me. This is an A song for me.
Starting point is 01:10:19 I'm going to go A plus personally. It's really fucking good. I love it. Fuck. I'm in between. I just can't decide which one I want to agree with. I'm an A or an A plus. I also, the only reason I say A plus is because it's like a tug specifically at my heartstrings
Starting point is 01:10:30 more than other songs. Like whenever I give it a higher grade, it's like if it's the worst it makes me feel the higher grade I think I give it. Yes. That's kind of really what it is. A plus. Yeah. And therefore. Okay.
Starting point is 01:10:42 There it is. I'm going to give this one an A plus too. Yeah, you are. I actually really like this one. It's good. It's good. Wonderful. Okay.
Starting point is 01:10:52 Do do do. Let's play the next song. Dorothea. And if you're ever tired of being known for who you know, you know, you always know me. I love when she throws, like, throws away notes like that. Yeah. I like that, too. I like this song very much, I think.
Starting point is 01:12:28 Like, it's not, it's not like a, it doesn't make me sad, it doesn't make me sad. But I do. Oh, buddy. Oh, man. So, like, I think I could let it make me sad if I wanted. To me, it sounds like a, like a friend breakup, like a, which I have bad in my life. Have you ever had like a really good friend that you like just like started hating or they fucked you over? You'd like stop being friends with them like for whatever reason.
Starting point is 01:12:51 And I just, I don't know. I'm still confused because I can't tell like from what perspective this. Like is this a friend that she's left at home? Is this the boyfriend that they're talking about in Tis the damn season that is now watching her be like this movie star? And then there's all these people saying that this is Selena Gomez, which I don't. I don't get the Selena Gomez connection, but people keep saying. I get it solely from the selling makeup and magazines. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:20 But other than that, I'm like, why would Taylor Swift write this about Selena Gomez in a place of like, hey, it's never too late to come back to my side? Like, Taylor Swift is what side? They're both megastars. There's no side to come back to. They're on the same side. I'm also wondering, like, what is the significance of Tupelo? Like, I don't get it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:41 The Tupelo, I don't understand. I mean, it's just a small town, I imagine. But on my first listen, I just thought of this as basically Taylor writing a song to Taylor. And it's her childhood friend being like, and with my distinct ability to shoehorn myself into anything. Of course. I was like, that's like, you know, like, especially like the stars and your eyes shine brighter in Tupelo. And it's like, to me it seems like a childhood friend who had a friend get famous or noriety. I'm so happy to see you're doing well, but like you used to be so much happier.
Starting point is 01:14:16 Yeah. And once we shoehorned myself into that, guess what, kids? Yeah. Oh, no. Suddenly, I'm crying again. Wow, I didn't see like that. I was thinking only strictly like, I was trying to take Taylor out of it. Me too.
Starting point is 01:14:34 Putting her back in that. That does make a lot of sense. I like that, John. It does make a lot of sense. I was openly weeping. Yeah, that is like, I, your description just there was, like, made me cry a little bit. Right. Your friends are like, you were better than this, John.
Starting point is 01:14:50 Are you? Like, I'm sorry, I only see you on small screens now and I'm happy you're doing good. But, like, boy, you used to be. Yeah. I can see your cheers. It's giving me tears. I don't know. It's all too real.
Starting point is 01:15:04 I get tears when I see tears. Damn it. Next song. My friends hate me. This is going to be Ria's new favorite song She's going to listen to it down Be like, What the fuck? A hundred percent is going to happen.
Starting point is 01:15:18 I think this one also Has old Taylor vibes. Like this song, the sound of it, it could have been on like Taylor Swift The album. The album, self-titled album from, you know. I feel like a lot of these songs are like country viking, but a lot of them are.
Starting point is 01:15:33 It has a little, definitely more of a country vibe. I actually feel like this one does what nobody, no crime wanted to do. where it does have like that vibe and also like I think it sticks to landing whereas no buy no crime I just didn't yeah I'm with you okay
Starting point is 01:15:46 this one to me I do like it a lot but I don't know you guys are probably gonna hate me for this B plus no I think I was gonna be you through a C out I might have left no yeah no I was gonna go B plus
Starting point is 01:16:00 I would say like no you know what B plus I'll also say B plus because it's not bad it doesn't tugging me like it should yes when she has a song that I can, that I can't even speak, that I am singing afterwards, so I'm like, hey, like then I'm like, okay, that bumps you up like half a grade.
Starting point is 01:16:17 For sure. You know, I don't feel that with some of the Saturday songs. I mean, if we're going on the last grade, grading system, which is like, the more it hurts me, the higher it is, I'm literally crying. So, A plus. You can choose the A plus. I understand. Yes.
Starting point is 01:16:32 I understand. God. Ria, do you want to throw a grade out for this one? B plus. Okay. B plus? Is that what you gave? I gave A. I gave B plus. Because John's crying. Us too said B plus. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:47 Yeah, I'll go B plus. What side do you want? I was like, pick a side, choose wisely. I'm going to go B plus. All right. Next song, Coney Island featuring the National. Which Joe is also. Yes. Joe is also a writer on this.
Starting point is 01:17:02 I'll jump out ahead of this before the song even starts. I have no idea what this song is about. Wait, can I fucking tell you? I looked it up because I also didn't know. It is about a dead line. lover. Like a guy who dies of like, he dies. And Taylor, whoever is the person singing the song, feels as if they didn't get any closure. Like, there were so many things that were left unsaid. And there was like a kind of a weird breakup. And then they died. Like, suddenly. That's what it's about.
Starting point is 01:17:25 Wow. What? Yeah. I did not know that either until I looked it up. But it makes sense when you look at the lyrics after hearing that. But it's like, it's not my favorite. But this is the long haul. How'd we get here so soon. Around something delicate did I shatter you And I'm sitting on a bench in Coney Island Wondering where did my baby go The fast times, the bright lights the merry go
Starting point is 01:18:01 Sorry for not making you my centerfold Over and over Lost again with no surprises Disappointments close your eyes And it gets colder and colder. What's a lifetime of achievement? Okay, we can cut it. Yeah, it's depressing.
Starting point is 01:18:40 It is depressing. I'm looking at more things. This one says that, like, maybe this is about a romance nearing its end. There's a lot of callbacks to old lyrics in Delicate. Like, she has a lyric. Is it cool that I said? I mean, in this song, is it cool that I said all that? Is it chill that you're in my head?
Starting point is 01:18:59 Because I know that it's delicate. thinking of that. And then when I got into the accident, the site that flashed before me was your face. That's a reference to out of the woods. It's a reference to her and Harry Styles brought someone over. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:19:10 murdering someone literally. Oh, I like that line. There's a theory that. The accident, I saw your face, but when I went to accept the word, I think I forgot your name.
Starting point is 01:19:17 Yeah. That's the line, yeah. Yeah. Being like, I remember you in like the most important in my life moment, but not in like my life. Right.
Starting point is 01:19:23 I was seeing, yeah, I was seeing people talk about like old exes. Maybe had some references in here. That maybe there was, there was a hairy reference. maybe there was a Calvin Harris reference because I think
Starting point is 01:19:33 I think closure is about Kevin Harris but we'll talk about that later. Yeah, I think that they referenced some in some acceptance speech that Taylor had thanked him for whatever it was
Starting point is 01:19:46 and that when the roles were reversed and Calvin was in that situation he didn't thank Taylor so I'm not quite sure the details of that but this one is by far the most was the most confusing one for me to be like what is the song
Starting point is 01:19:58 about it? What is this telling? I think it was the variety review that said that it was about like a dead lover. Like I wrote dead lover sad face. So I don't know what that means. Dead lover, sad face, no closure. That's what I wrote. I don't even want to dive into the Taylor Swift Reddit of what people think that this is not.
Starting point is 01:20:14 Oh no, I can't even go in there. I'll never come out. This one is like I think in my original review of this, I compared this to this album as a whole to Taylor Swift. I only know how to compare things to Tom Brady. And so I compared it. I said it was like this one. was her 28 to 3 game in the sense that, like, it was, she was already the greatest. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:36 Like, folklore was the Seahawks game where that was the fourth win, that was like, you're in a different conversation now. There's no one who can compare. And this is the one that put it completely out of contention. Like, there's nothing else. But I did say also, like, it's like the 28 to 3 game because there are misses. Like, there are, like, he did fuck up a couple of times. Like, there are misses in this as well. And I think Coney Island's a huge miss.
Starting point is 01:20:59 I don't think it I don't like the sound of it I don't like anyone knows what it's about I think that's why it's like there are a lot of stories It seems like it's kind of like a just a full Maybe
Starting point is 01:21:11 So many different like It almost feels like so many tale of relationships That you just threw into this one song That it's like all about like Past relationships dying Yeah kind of situation Because there are a lot of references Like were you standing in the hall
Starting point is 01:21:27 With the Big Cake Happy Birthday Apparently that was about Jake Jelenhall not being there for her birthday. Did I paint your bluest guys the darkest gray? That's a dear John reference. When I got into the accident, like I said, Harry Styles. It's like maybe she just took all of her exes and threw in little pieces into Coney Island and then was like, hey, goodbye to all of you. In which case, I love it.
Starting point is 01:21:50 When you try and tell seven stories at once, like it doesn't. It's hard. Yeah, it's hard. And again, also, like, they really don't sound good together. No, that's what I'm saying. They don't blend at all. And I also think. and I like, hate to say this, but I feel like the rest of the National was kind of like, hey, Adam, what the fuck?
Starting point is 01:22:03 Like, let's put us on a, put us on a track, get us involved. Well, he was like, no, I know. That's what I'm saying. But, like, right? Like, he came in and was doing the Shiva Taylor by himself and he would, like, reference the National, whatever. But then obviously wanting him to come in, but I almost felt like it was more of a forced thing than like a talent. Well, I would have, I think, I think maybe another kind of. I think.
Starting point is 01:22:21 Yeah. Another kind of voice because he does kind of have a very similar, like, Bonnie Verne. Bonnie Verre. Yeah. I think that's fair to say. You know? Yeah. Or it's like the deep haunting also.
Starting point is 01:22:31 Like we already have that. Like give us something else. Right. Right. He's clearly here. You already got that. So it's like, I don't remember.
Starting point is 01:22:37 I'm sorry to imagine. It's like it's just like it just I don't for like it's and I don't understand, you know, music. I don't understand sound. I don't have that kind of ear. Yeah. And if even my bad ear is like that doesn't work. That juxtaposition is bad. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:50 It's like something about the pitch or something. Listen to what our fucking assholes. Yeah. I'm like, oh, you guys don't know. Actually. But I'm saying like I actually. The pitch is not quite right. No.
Starting point is 01:22:58 I know. know these things and for some reason even I can be like that it just doesn't work I'm with you I'm with you I would think like people who are very musically inclined should be able to hear that and go eh right doesn't work out yeah could be um okay so this one's like a B minus for me
Starting point is 01:23:14 I might go C I'm gonna hit a C minus yeah that's crazy yeah that's crazy yeah so I was like C minus that's below average yeah I'm going C okay Ria C Okay.
Starting point is 01:23:30 Good guess. Good guess. All right, let's go to Ivy. Woo! I love this song. Yeah. Love Ivy. Ivy might be my number two for real.
Starting point is 01:23:37 Woo! No, I did. All right, so she's cheating? Is that where... Sounds like it, friends. Sounding like a cheating. Is that this... Sounds like cheating.
Starting point is 01:24:44 Leading lady is in a... A little bit. A little bit. Yeah. love the song. Now that you said that, I'm like, I love the song,
Starting point is 01:24:53 it's a lot awkward now, but I love the song. She's got a lot of lines in it that I like. It is very mysterious. I like the roots in my dreamland. Like I can't stop you from putting roots in my dreamland. Like my house of stone is covered in the ivy that's now growing with you,
Starting point is 01:25:10 whatever the actual lyric is. Like that imagery, I love a lot. I think that that paints a picture of like a, I don't know, I feel so weird when I get serious about it. But it's like a visceral thing. Like you feel it. You can see like Ivy growing into a house. You know how that goes.
Starting point is 01:25:25 You know how it's like you think about. And I thought this was a great foundation. I thought this was perfect. Yeah. And not right. And Ivy fucks everything up. Like literally every time and it's amazing. And she also has some line that's like grieving for the living, which I thought was a good line too.
Starting point is 01:25:38 Her imagery and I've not first noticed it, but it was very clear on folklore. Yes. And Mirabal is a number one favorite. Last Great American Dynasty. Like the imagery she paints. is exceptionally vivid. Yeah. And this is one that I would put in the conversation with those other two.
Starting point is 01:25:57 Yes. I can literally see this movie happening. Like it's... A hundred percent. And not like this song fits in a movie. Like, this is a movie. Yeah, this song is a movie and I'm watching the movie on fold. You're painting it for me.
Starting point is 01:26:08 I don't even get... My mind doesn't get to wander. I don't get to compare it to myself because it's so clear how you're describing it. Yeah. I'm just seeing it somewhere. I mean, I still come compared to myself. Let's be honest. I can definitely draw the shoehorn.
Starting point is 01:26:20 myself into it. However, I do think that something that she does is so good is paint these pictures like this. And I think that's why I like it so much as myself personally, someone with a really vivid imagination almost like in a bad way, like almost too much. But this is, this song was one of those songs that I listened to it. And I read the lyrics and I was like, you know what? It's for real. She should do some kind of like art installation thing when we're allowed to like go like, because all these songs could be some kind of like painting or statue or something. Like I would go see that.
Starting point is 01:26:49 Yes. A billion percent. With different rooms. Yeah. I feel like in fashion weeks they'll do that. They'll do presentations for different things. And specifically Alice and Olivia, who maybe she's worked with before, but they do this whole like woodland type set and like one of those big warehouses.
Starting point is 01:27:04 But everything's covered in vines and it's like beautiful and there's, you know, models walking around with the clothes. But I feel like Taylor should do something like that. Like makeup, like each spot is a different room. And it's looking like one of these songs and the song's playing. I feel like an Ivy room would be beautiful. Now we're talking. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:18 We're really cool. We're really talking. Okay. This one for me, I love the chorus on this one. I think it's another one that when she hits that, oh, god damn,
Starting point is 01:27:29 you're like, yes. So good. I'm going to call it dabbable. Yes. That is. As far as dabbable moments in an album that is so not dab worthy,
Starting point is 01:27:38 that is definitely one. God damn. It gives me that arms up like this. Like I do like, like, for me, this one is a, A minus. I was going to go A.
Starting point is 01:27:51 I'm going A plus. Just because A plus. I like it. I like my top three. Like I really love it. Lyrics wise it just doesn't like cut me as much as some of the other ones. That's fair to say. You know?
Starting point is 01:28:00 Because it's just a little more story. Storytelling. Right. That's what I mean like I can't see myself as much because of the story is more of a, this one to me is like my favorite upbeat song. Like I feel like it's an upbeat song. Right. For sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:11 Okay. Number 11 is Cowboy Like Me. Musically for me doesn't. doesn't do it. I think that's... It's... It's... It's...
Starting point is 01:29:22 It's... Right? Yes. Okay, yes. Wait, what? Marcus? Yeah. Is it Marcus?
Starting point is 01:29:28 Is it Marcus? I think is his first thing. Yeah. Is singing the background vocals in this? Oh, I didn't know. Okay. Which is interesting because... Like, there's no credit.
Starting point is 01:29:36 You know, I feel like he could have almost been featured on this song, but I don't know what they... I like kind of what she was. Yeah. Well, but... But, I don't know, musically, this one's kind of boring to me. Which sucks because I like this story of this story of this story of this story of this story of this story of this story of... this one. You know where this song can fit perfectly?
Starting point is 01:29:51 It's a happy song. Like this song to me is like the lyrics are really happy because it does, it seems like this person is finding like their other half. Yeah. But the song itself is like the music doesn't match the lyrics to me. I'm like I feel sad listening to this, but I don't, it should, I shouldn't feel sad listening to this. I feel like it's, in my opinion, like the most country song on here, obviously it's literally
Starting point is 01:30:12 has Cowboy title. However, I think that it makes me think of a song that could be sung by Leighton Meester in country. I feel like this could slide right into country strong and fit right the fucking. Like it just, that's what the vibe it gave me. But I like her, she says things like takes one and no one. I love dancing is a dangerous game. Yeah, I love that too.
Starting point is 01:30:32 Yeah, yeah, yeah. You asked me to dance, I said dancing is a dangerous game. It's such a like. It's a good one. It reminded me of one of one of my favorite films, that awkward moment. Love. Love that movie. When the frat boy from Murray Hill
Starting point is 01:30:48 asks, Image and Puts, like, do you want a drink? Love her. And she's like, do you know what that means? And she explains like everything that can come. And it takes me up to your shitty parents
Starting point is 01:30:58 and your shitty mother. And I, because no one ever will be good enough for you. It's like, it was just a drink. And that's what that's what I feel like. But wasn't it not? You want to dance?
Starting point is 01:31:06 It's like, do you know what a dance means? It means forever. Yeah. Literally. Is that really what you want? And it sucks because this one I do, when I read it, I like a lot of the lyrics.
Starting point is 01:31:17 Like I love, now you hang from my lips like the gardens of Babylon with their boots beneath my dead bed forever is the sweetest con there's a lot of i like a lot of the lyrics but just the song i mean that's great like let's acknowledge that's a it's a fantastic 10 lyric but just i don't know for some reason the way the music is delivered on this one it doesn't do it for me can i say i it i didn't even know that lyric was like from the song like that is a fantastic lyric i haven't even listen to it and not for paid enough attention to you know that's right at the end too
Starting point is 01:31:50 but it's just because I think it's like kind of very much the same all the way through that you're like okay so this one I like the idea of it and I kind of wish it had a different sound behind it because I love the lyrics but I think I'm going to go with B minus yeah I'll probably go I'll go B just because I feel like I was rude earlier
Starting point is 01:32:13 I was going to be myself yeah yeah I was actually going to go B plus but then I'm, I don't know, impressionable. I don't know, I just got bullied. Thanks to be honest. That's so fair. Okay. I'm going to go be minus. Be minus.
Starting point is 01:32:28 The music doesn't carry me either, friend. I'd agree with you on that. This one, it's just like a little boring. Yeah. And it needs a little like something. It's a transition song in the movie country strong. I wish there was like a little bit of maybe a, not a beat, but something in the bridge that made the song sound like people are falling in love.
Starting point is 01:32:46 I'm not like, you know, I just sometimes with the happier songs, I feel like that. Okay, 12 is long story short. Another one I just love. Yes, it's a great one. Love the shit out of the song. Yeah. Just lying in my bed with like my phone two inches from my face reading all the lyrics on Thursday night. And I was like, oh, that drum.
Starting point is 01:33:07 I needed something to pick me up at this point. Of course. Like it was like sad song after sad song and I was confused. I'm with you. Okay, so this one I think, I did see some people saying that maybe there are some like scooter Kanye situations in here. Like, you know, long story short. But I also, I don't, I don't vibe with that. Hiddleston.
Starting point is 01:34:19 Tom Hiddleston is what I like write about this. Which I like that one way better because when I think of her relationship, with him. Long story, shorter was a bad time is exactly how I would describe it. This is such a fucking joke. Him wearing that,
Starting point is 01:34:33 all I can picture is him wearing this stupid shirt part. Yes. In the ocean, I'm so pissed off the fact that even our house in Rhode Island it's like you don't deserve it, Tom Houston. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:42 Yeah. No. No. No, I don't really know anything about him. All right, fine. Okay, okay. No, this one does just kind of seem like maybe this was one of,
Starting point is 01:34:50 yes. Yeah. Right. Maybe not. Bad time. Yeah. She's telling us right here. He's a shipper.
Starting point is 01:34:56 Yep. No, it seems like the last, perhaps the last story before finding Joe and, like, falling in love and being like, look, long story short, that, all that shit was a bad time. Let's not think about all that. Yeah. Like, it's a long story. I love the felt from this pedestal right down the rabbit hole because I have an Allison Wonderline reference always. And then even that, like, the push, what is it? It's push from the precipice.
Starting point is 01:35:20 Clung to the nearest lips. Presuppus is a great word. Clung to the nearest lips, though, after that. is like that, again, paints a picture for me. Like, she just was like... Who was the poor of Hiddleston? I mean everyone. Calvin Harris.
Starting point is 01:35:33 Calvin Harris? Okay, so I was going to say that was another one I heard about. Between Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston, it was like, it was like, it was like the mat ball and whatever and like all that stuff with Tom. And it makes sense if you think about like her life at that time. Yeah. We forget now because she's been with Joe for so long. And like, Tom Hiddleston was there.
Starting point is 01:35:51 So it's like, well, okay. Yep. Here we are. Now you're my boyfriend. Yeah. It's just doesn't seem. No, it's... We played a guessing game with like, who is Taylor's West boyfriend for years.
Starting point is 01:36:01 And now it's like, you kind of forget that it was so much now because she has been with Joe for so long where it's like that's not not even a question sometimes. Yeah. So, yeah, I feel like that was more referenced here for sure. Yes. I love it though. I love this one. This one for me is a solid A. I'm going to say the same.
Starting point is 01:36:24 I would say A plus, but again, I'm handing out too many. A plus, I would say solid A, leaning towards plus. Okay, I'm going to go B. So it's good. It's fine. And more importantly, can I ask you a question? Yeah. What do the stars mean?
Starting point is 01:36:37 Those are my favorite ones. See, but I feel like you've given, that's what I figured, but I feel like you've given higher scores to, by I'm referencing Fran's notebook. No, that's definitely true. I think you've given higher scores to ones without stars. Well, because when I'm grading songs. That's a good point. Yes.
Starting point is 01:36:54 When I'm grading songs, I think, like, I think, I take other. If you were a teacher, the students would be, well, no, I take other things. When I'm grading, I'm actually grading, like I was a teacher. Like, I'm taking other things into consideration. These are like, if I just said, it's an A, because this is my favorite. Like, you know, like, these ones are my favorite. And I'll, like, the ones that I have started, the ones that I'll listen to all the time. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:37:18 I got you. But, you know what I'm saying? Like, happiness to me is a beautiful song and deserves a high-ass grade. Will I be listening to it all the time? No, therefore it is not one of my favorites. That makes a lot of sense. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 01:37:30 Thank you for clarifying. You're very welcome. And I'm sorry for staring. But it's just like I can't not see it. It's right in front of me. It is right there. It is right there. Okay.
Starting point is 01:37:38 Did everyone do grades for long story short? I missed it. Yeah, did you? Uh-oh. You don't know what any of us is. I was like, oh. B. B.
Starting point is 01:37:48 Nice. A. There it is. Okay. There it is. 13 is Marjorie. Which is just, it's sobs, sob fest. Sob city, literally.
Starting point is 01:37:58 Yep. Yep. Be so kind, you forget to be clever. Be so clever, you forget to be kind. That line alone, like on my face, on my cheeks, like, on each side, post-malone style. Like, please. I didn't know better. Be so polite.
Starting point is 01:39:16 You don't such power. You forget to be. That one, too. Love that. I love this one because it does feel like, you know, This is about her grandma. And it just has grandparent isms in it. You know,
Starting point is 01:39:32 these lines are things that you imagine something your grandparent would say to you. And it's all, like, it's not, I guess it's a compliment to grandparents as a whole. But it's also just great advice. All of it is like, yeah, it's very, sage advice. It is grandparent-like advice. But it is all just like, it's just smart. Everything's saying. It's like, yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 01:39:51 Like, don't be so polite. You forget you're powerful. Don't be get so powerful you forget you're polite. It's very basic stuff that is just also beautifully, beautifully said. And also works for it, it, I actually, I feel like I'm doing a disservice in the sense that it reminds me of Game of Thrones because that fucking sucked. Yeah, but what died didn't stay dead, it sounds like what does dead man never die? Yeah. It's fair.
Starting point is 01:40:15 But it is, it's a beautiful sentiment that works even just for regular dead people. Yeah. No, I totally agree. I agree with you. It doesn't have to be grandparents. It's just like any, any person you know who's passed away is like, you're still with me. Yeah. I know.
Starting point is 01:40:31 It's a beautiful song. No, I know. No, this one's a beautiful song. And this is, John, this is like exactly what I'm talking about. Like, that's a beautiful song and I love it. I can't listen to that one all the time. Because it's true. And I can't listen.
Starting point is 01:40:45 I'm like obsessed with my Nana. My Nana is my bestie. And it's like, I know she's old and whatever. But it's like, she's my fucking bestie. So this song I listen to this. I'm like, wow. No. Like, okay, maybe I could just skip over this for a couple of this.
Starting point is 01:40:55 That's how I thought what soon you'll get better on lover. Like, I was like, oh, God, this is objectively a beautiful song, but I will listen to this one time only because this is so sad. It's so sad. I'm like, oh, my God. Yeah. So I feel like that with this one. And I don't know. It is nice.
Starting point is 01:41:15 I love that she tied, you know, track 13, about her grandma. Same thing as track 13 on folklore for her grandfather. So. I also didn't know. of this other information that her grandmother was like an office thing or all that. I had no idea. I didn't know that either. I don't know if she has mentioned and I've missed that or nobody's ever written about
Starting point is 01:41:30 that. I was upset with myself for not knowing it, but I'm glad I do know. No, you're in good company. Okay. I also did that. Makes me feel better. It makes me feel better. Good.
Starting point is 01:41:38 Score? Yeah. It's just, these ones kill me because it's like, yeah. She sums up so well of when you're a kid and you take for granted kind of what you have with your grandparents and then afterwards. you think back and you're like wow I probably should have like asked more questions and talked more. She says like I should have saved every receipt.
Starting point is 01:41:58 She said I should have asked you questions. I should have asked you how to be asked you to write it down for me. Should have kept every grocery store receipt because every scrap of you would have been taken from me. I can't even read it. I'm going to start to cry. So anyway, it's this one, it's very beautiful. I can't listen to it all the time.
Starting point is 01:42:17 But it's a it's an A for me. It's an A for me as well. See, I actually, like, it's not, it's, it's, it's an A for me. Out of respect for Taylor and a grandmother. Yeah, I don't think about grandparents with this. Yeah. Which is weird. Oh, yeah, okay.
Starting point is 01:42:33 Because, like, I, I wasn't, I didn't have a bad relationship with my grandparents at all. But, like, one died, I was very young, and the other one died, we just, like, didn't live with each other. But I related to other people I know who have passed away. So I don't have, like, the grandparent connection to it. But it is. Definitely plays for any. It's anything. It's worth for anything.
Starting point is 01:42:52 Lost and grieving in general, I think is a good. Definitely does. I'll give it in that as well. Yeah. Okay. Same. Perfect. Okay.
Starting point is 01:43:00 14 is closure. Is this the last track? The second to last. We're almost there. No. I just was curious because the name closure. Yes. It would make sense to be the last one.
Starting point is 01:43:15 This was another one. But the last one is Evermore, which also makes sense. True. This was a surprise, upy one. I thought this was going to be depressing as fuck, and it's upbeat and kind of bitchy. It's a little too slam poetry for me on this one. This one, it's a little too chaotic.
Starting point is 01:43:32 I like, I don't know if I, like, it sounds like somebody's banging on something in the back. I said it's eloquently bitter was the way that I put it for myself. Because she was like, is that the variety reviewer in you? I know, literally. It's just literally all the wheat I'm smoking, Fran. Like, that's why. I don't like that banging in the back.
Starting point is 01:43:54 I don't like it either. I don't like that either. Yeah. It's over at closure. Glorier. Free me like some situation that needs to be handled. That line I like. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:44:14 I'm fine with my spite. I like this one too. All right. We can stop it. Yeah. I like that one too because it's like, whoa. I have a camera into my apartment when I'm sad. Yeah, like how does it just know?
Starting point is 01:44:30 my beer with a candle lit, like, watching TV, like, being like, I'm sad. That's exactly what I want to be doing right now. Yeah. I want to make it feel better. I want to sew it. Yeah. Exactly. I booked the night train for a reason.
Starting point is 01:44:42 Yeah, yeah. Yes. Yep. Yeah. Love that. Love that. Um, just, despite, like, loving that line, this one doesn't do it for me. This is one of the misses.
Starting point is 01:44:51 Yeah. I don't like this one. I like it. I like it's a, I think it's a kind of like a fuck you. Like, I don't know. I don't think she ever finishes the story. Yeah. I do.
Starting point is 01:44:59 I do like the idea. of it, like a scorn lover. I don't think the story ever finishes. It feels as like, it's untold. There's two, like, rumors to this. One is that it could be about, like, Scooter Braun or whatever. And I, can I say that I don't think it's fucking about that, because I don't think that much about Scooter to, like, write multiple songs about this asshole.
Starting point is 01:45:14 Like, I just don't think that's true. Right. I like to think of it as Calvin Harris, and the picture she paints to me is, like, Calvin Harris, like, wrote her a letter after she had all this fucking success and he looks like an asshole, because what the fuck is Calvin Harris right now? Tell me right now. Like, where is he? And I imagine him being, like, he?
Starting point is 01:45:30 like, because he's kind of dushy in my mind. I don't even know if that's true. But to him just like, write her letter being like, oh, like, we good. Like, it's cool. Like, congrats to you. Like, let's bury the hatchet. And she seeing it and being like, oh, fuck this guy. Like, you are so far in my past.
Starting point is 01:45:42 Like, I want nothing to do with you. Like, yeah, I got your letter. I'm doing better. I don't need your shit anymore. Like, leave me alone. I agree with that. I also think that, like, I just think, again, this fits kind of what I was saying earlier where it's just like, yeah, like, things happen in our life.
Starting point is 01:45:56 And it's okay to just like, it doesn't matter that much. It's not, like, why, what is wrong with you? Like, you're going to send me a fucking letter? Yeah. We don't need that. And also, I think the idea of closure is just stupid. I think the idea of closure is a silly thing. I think that's just something like people say because they want to fuck their ex.
Starting point is 01:46:14 Probably, yeah. I just need a closer. I was like, I disagree, John. John, I absolutely agree with you. Yeah, like, I don't know. Let's just end this. What? We're going to see each other and then, oh, are you magically going to want to be with me?
Starting point is 01:46:26 No. No. And then I feel like it's kind of what she's saying. And this song is like, I don't look on your side. Yeah. Oh, yes. Yes. Yes.
Starting point is 01:46:34 Because she says, she says, I know I'm just a wrinkle in your new life. Staying friends would iron it out. So nice. Guilty, guilty. Reaching out across the sea that you put between you and me. But it's fake and it's oh so unnecessary. Yes. Like the only people who say, like it's a line someone uses because they want to see their accident.
Starting point is 01:46:53 Right. Yeah, of course. I just need closure. Can we meet up one more time? I'm going to try to fuck you. Yeah. I don't need it. It's like.
Starting point is 01:47:00 Exactly correct. Yeah. It's exactly correct. I just, yeah, this one still doesn't really do it for me just from like a music standpoint of it. So this is a, this is a C. I need to double check the lyrics, but like I do think she starts telling a story. That is interesting. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:47:16 And I just don't think she, yeah. I don't think there's ever a finish. She goes back to the like original chorus lyrics and there's not really any anything different. It's real. The whole song is basically like you send me a letter, fuck you. I don't want your class. Yeah, it's very, I said it's, that's pretty much it. I said it's almost like, it's a little, like, robot, like, machineish.
Starting point is 01:47:37 It's a C for me. Like, you know, whatever. But I still like it. I'm going to go, honestly, like, A-minus is one of my favorites. Really? Yeah, I really like it. I think it's kind of, like, bitchy. I also think it's kind of a, like, a song of like, yeah, I'm doing fucking fine.
Starting point is 01:47:49 Don't come and knockin. Like, fuck you. I'm good. Don't come and knockin. Don't come and knock it, because I ain't answer it. I'm not answering. I lean with Francesca. I'm going to go C-plus.
Starting point is 01:48:00 Ria. C plus? C plus. Yeah. Vastly different. It's okay. I stand by my words. Okay. Last song.
Starting point is 01:48:08 Track 15, Evermore featuring Bonnie Vair, which also has a Joe songwriting credit on it. Yes, it does. Sad as fuck as well. Just picture Joe playing the piano. It's so beautiful to imagine. It's so beautiful to imagine.
Starting point is 01:48:26 It's so fucking hot. We don't talk enough about hot Joe Allen is. It's like he is like. It depends. Oh, I think he's amazing. He is objectively attractive in a very vanilla way. Yes.
Starting point is 01:48:37 Yeah. Okay, yes. You're, that is a... In a very, like, Taylor Swift. Like, he looks like the boy version of Taylor Swift. Yes, he does. Which is probably why I love him. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:44 Oh, I love him. It looks like Brett Merriman in that picture. Like, he's fine. Yeah, no, he does, for real. Shut up, Brett Barrierman. He's, he's, to finally, not an ugly person. No. But never would I describe him as.
Starting point is 01:48:57 I also, I met him in person one time for two seconds. And so, I kind of had that, like, yeah, I had to brag about that. So the Tom Ford Fashion Show, not a big deal. So this one's just extremely sad and it's just kind of feels like it's about Yeah it's just a sad fucking song like when I was just really sad. The first listen I had I was like wow is this just everyone who is this just everyone who is like wow is this just everyone who is like maybe Taylor was thinking if everyone locked in their houses this year being like staring out their window being like is this going to last forever? Yeah, literally.
Starting point is 01:49:57 You know? I'm pretty sure that's exactly what it is. It's very sad. I think that, you know, our boy Justin Vernon's words are also very sad. Oh, yeah. This whole thing about it. Can I say something controversial? Yes, brave.
Starting point is 01:50:09 Say it. Why say something? So controversial. Yeah. It's so brave. Say it. I have lost respect for Bonnie Vair. What?
Starting point is 01:50:20 I think it... Let's go! What do you mean? I'm interested to hear the reasoning behind this. Yeah, why? I think he's so clearly not up. Like, I used to love Bonnie Bear. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:50:34 And, like, one of the first albums I bought when I got a record player was Bonnie Bear, Bonnie Bear. Yeah, yeah. And, like, I just won all those Grammys. Right. And it's, but, like, it's almost like putting, I'm trying to think, like, Like, like, it's when he's side by side with someone like Taylor, it's like, oh, Taylor's just so much better than you did. Oh, that's fair to say.
Starting point is 01:50:55 Oh, that's sweet. You have Taylor so much. That he's like, like, she washes him on exile. She washes him on this. That's less of a diss to him and more like, compil. Right. Props to her. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:51:05 It's like, all right, like, you're just. Well, because he has created this guy being like a background vocal. Yeah. He's like, he's like, but he's a feature on both. Like, I don't. Yes, but there are parts. And I think in ever. And ever more, more that he, it sounds like he's singing her background vocal.
Starting point is 01:51:21 Yes. Yeah. Not as much in exile. That feels more split. But this one a little bit. Exile, at least they work too. And it sounds, he sounds great. He's great.
Starting point is 01:51:30 Yeah. But it's just like, I'm just like, oh, wow. Like, I wish you was still singing. Yeah, he's just not, he's not doing it for me. He also doesn't, uh, Bonnie Vera, like, in general doesn't do it for me. I think what's the last, I do the last happen like, was it I? I do really like the combination of these two together, though. I think they sound really cool.
Starting point is 01:51:46 I like it more on. exile than I do. Way more. Way around. Oh, really? I like, because you're like he's talking less. I like exile.
Starting point is 01:51:54 I like exile way more. I really do. This one, obviously, another one with Joe playing the piano too. I forget if we set that before. I think you did. It's, it's good,
Starting point is 01:52:03 but it's just fucking sad. Like, the lyrics. Right, it just ends the album, like, in a very sad way. Yeah. Like I heard. And I was catching my breath, floors of a cat,
Starting point is 01:52:11 and creaking under my step, and I couldn't be sure I had this feeling so peculiar, this pain wouldn't be forever more. Like, it's sort of, flips at the beginning. It does flip at the end. It'll be forever. It'll be forever. It does slip in the end. Right. That's her light at the end of the tunnel. Yeah. After it's always like, all right. But maybe it'll be okay. Yeah. I appreciate a light at the end of the time. But I did need to take a shower after I heard this.
Starting point is 01:52:29 After first listen, it was like I couldn't fall asleep. I was like that. I literally got out of bed and went to shower. This is incredibly sad. I said, I got to take a shower. Like, like, I watched an episode of Schitt's Creek at like 2 a.m. to make myself. Of course. I don't think I slept all. night. I think I just listened to it like on repeat all night. After buying all the merch, of course. I didn't buy it until the next day, but I guess I didn't check again. When it first dropped, it was the only thing on the shop was the digital album. Well, that's what I haven't gone back and looks since then. I figured there'd be like more of an announcement. You guys are talking about your merch and now I feel really fucking left out. Obviously I'm so mad to have only gotten this
Starting point is 01:53:08 just now. I like need more. I need ever more. Make sure you don't do the Apple Pay and you alter shipping. No, I definitely won't do that. Can I ask a serious question right now? Yeah. These are sweatshers you guys ordered off of Taylor Swift's website and waited months for? Yes. Yes, they are. I feel like you're about to be rude. You guys could have made these yourselves in one day. For sure.
Starting point is 01:53:26 But then it would be Taylor's merch. It's a really good point. You guys could have hit up Allison for merch and say, hey, can you guys make us the sweatshirts? Because they look so fucking simple. They're super basic. It's the most simple thing. And we do it here at Barcelona. Hey, that looks cool.
Starting point is 01:53:41 Let's slap it on a t-shirt. Square. It doesn't fit the sweatshirt whatsoever. It looks awkward, not even stylish or anything. I'm sorry, guys. I like this sweatsh. I'm like, damn, bitch, I fucking like this sweatsh. You're like ugly, but whatever.
Starting point is 01:53:54 I got the one with the stars that doesn't have the picture on it. Just want to get that. It would have been on me. I bought the class. Maybe it would have been a little harder for us to do ourselves. I got my screen printed at the mall. It absolutely does. I literally thought Kelly's was a knockoff fucking folklore sweatshirt.
Starting point is 01:54:12 I would never show up in a knockoff folklore merch. I will say. Such a good point. I'm definitely just gonna have all this stuff I just bought made in the square tomorrow. Are you kidding? Can I see what you guys bought?
Starting point is 01:54:23 Can I see what you guys bought? Like, yeah, let's just start selling it. Hey, you want Taylor stuff? Like, we'll get it to you by the end of the week,
Starting point is 01:54:30 which we won't. It's also a lie, but at least it'll be short in 22 weeks. I am very much really just hit me. Like that's some fucking... That is very true,
Starting point is 01:54:39 but it's the... This thing on the arm and there's a little Taylor's stuff on the back. Because there's some like Harry Styles' tuesday that we could also totally like that. Oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 01:54:46 That are pictures slapped on that we could make ourselves. Yeah, no, that's true. I have that's what sure as well. It's the splitcher says that. This one has the track list on it. But I like that way more. Same with the George Brothers. Like the drugs on the stuff the Jones Brothers puts out, like I'm like, I could make that as well. No, artists in general need to fucking up their their merch game.
Starting point is 01:55:03 It's so bad. Some of it, I'm like, Jesus. Who's making the... I bet the artist doesn't even have a say. Somebody's just making it. Yeah, I would buy it. People will buy it no matter what. Look, you fools. I'm shocked that there wasn't a I come back stronger than a 90s trend. Anything for merch-wise. Like, how is that not scrunchies?
Starting point is 01:55:21 Like, they should put that on scrunchies. They should put that on, like, I don't get that. Let's just cut all of us out. Yeah, yeah. Do it. And just start making merch for real. There's no way you can copyright. I come back stronger than a 90s trend.
Starting point is 01:55:32 Let's just do it. All right. I'm going to text out of all. Yeah, just see what's up. All right. Let's grade Evermore and then we'll wrap up. It's a B for me. I'm going to go B plus.
Starting point is 01:55:46 I'll go A minus. Yeah. So we're all the same round. Yeah. Yeah. I bumped mine down a little bit for a consistency say. B minus. B minus Ria.
Starting point is 01:55:54 I really don't like that one because it's so sad. Honestly, I think that's my whole problem in general with these albums is that it's really, really sad. And I don't typically like to listen to slow, sad music because I'm already sad. So I like to listen to like music. Yeah, that's not my thing. Again, that's why I take. the night drain. Yeah, no, I, I like to listen to songs that make me forget about all that,
Starting point is 01:56:19 and I just, you know, pump me up. So this is not my flavor at all. I get that. That's probably a healthy way to think about things. But yeah, I like to put things on, just like listen to it. Really? No more tears left. When I'm feeling down, I try to make myself happy and we're like, that's crazy. Yeah, yeah. You're fucking nuts. But I also have been watching tons of Grace Anatomy, so that really bad. That will kill you for sure. That is, yes. I told my sister that, and she was like, oh boy yeah yeah that's tough
Starting point is 01:56:46 alright let's let's wrap up by if we can it's tough each give our and this is different from grades because like I said
Starting point is 01:56:56 there's a different scale here your three top three favorite songs oh wow three is hard three is hard
Starting point is 01:57:05 okay I'll go champagne problems the really long one that's like five minutes yep happiness happiness so champagne problems happiness
Starting point is 01:57:13 and I don't know the names. I don't know the names. Maybe. Maybe. By the way, I completely understand. Oh, Tis the damn season. Duh. Dabbing.
Starting point is 01:57:26 Great song. I completely understand the starring system now because the three I'm going to give. Probably I have higher grades on other things. Yeah, yeah, exactly. But I'm going to go, Tis the damn season. Duh. Da. Really good one, yeah.
Starting point is 01:57:43 Love it This is the damn season Dorothea and Dorothea wow I didn't expect that She's completing the whole story Can't have one without the other
Starting point is 01:57:51 I was openly crying I was talking about Yeah yeah I keep forgetting I'm sorry I forgot that your experience is different than mine I'm only thinking of myself Okay so
Starting point is 01:58:00 To the end season Dorothea And I think I'm going to go tolerate it Okay That's a good one Buc stocks Yeah I'm gonna go Champagne Problems
Starting point is 01:58:13 Gold Rush and long story short wow I love long story short too Willow is Willow is like 3B on that one like 3A is long story short
Starting point is 01:58:27 3B is not even in the discussion like in the brain right now I think I'm going to go I'm going to go Ivy champagne problems and happiness but with tolerated and long story short
Starting point is 01:58:40 are like they just they would ride out the 5 if we were doing 5 I really like how all of ours are very different. Yeah, they're super different. Super different. I like that for us. I love that for us.
Starting point is 01:58:51 We're different, we're different, you guys. Love that for you, David. This was great. I think ever, oh, last, now this is actually the last question. Did you like folklore or Evermore more? Oh, it's so hard. I think folklore.
Starting point is 01:59:06 I liked more. Folklore, definitely. I love Evermore, but folklore. Both beautiful, but as of now, but as of right now, folklore, I think still. of now I choose folklore, but it's almost not fair because it's been out for so long. Right. We have sat with folklore for a long time to really grow
Starting point is 01:59:19 to love it. So it comes to me and six months. That could change. Ask me what I think. Yeah. I'll say folklore for now. Evermore, though, is really making it a word for the first month. But if folklore didn't exist, then you'd be evermore. This would be like, you know, this is unbelievable. I can't believe she did it. And it's like, well, yeah, she just already did it two months ago. Yeah. Right. Yep. Totally agree. Okay. Kelly, John, Ria.
Starting point is 01:59:40 Thank you guys very much for going through Evermore. Thank you very much for having me. You know, I'm part of the show, so I would be here. I said everybody's name. You don't have to, but we thank Kelly and John for joining, you know what I mean? You don't have to thank me. This is my job. Still thank you.
Starting point is 01:59:54 It was a personal thank you. It's not like a. Thank you for being here today. You know, all of that. Yes. I'm sorry for burping. Oh, we're still on that? We forgot.
Starting point is 02:00:03 Did you? I was going to say, you were you thinking about that the whole time? It's the only thing I've been thinking of it. You reminded me and now it's all I'm thinking about. I'm just like shifted for a second and just like, well, sometimes it's, it's, Chicken fucking gross shit over there. Gross. All right, guys.

Welcome to the show, Sophia.
Starting point is 02:01:49 Thank you, guys. Happy to be here. We're excited to talk to you. You have a new movie coming out December 11th. It's called Songbird. And I'm not going to lie. We watched. And it's a slightly terrifying thought.
Starting point is 02:02:07 But why don't you kind of describe the movie for everybody? so that we don't like, you know, puttrait. Yeah. So Sondred is the first movie in history to be shot during a global pandemic, about a global pandemic. But despite the terrifying reality that we are living, and it is a work of fiction based in the future, songbird is, as our director said,
Starting point is 02:02:31 a Roneo and Juliet story based during the greatest survival story of our time. At the heart of it, it's a story of love and of the power of hope and our capacity as humans to choose to never let go of hope, even in the darkest of circumstances. And that's the reason why I fell in love with this story. Was there any, like you said, you guys filmed this in the pandemic, about a pandemic. Was there any kind of hesitation to make a movie like this at this time?
Starting point is 02:03:02 Or like you said, you just fell in love with this love story? On my behalf, I didn't hesitate. But it's because, you know, the proof of it. protocols, the technology, and, you know, the safety regulations that they established, which are now the norm in Hollywood because of Sondford, were extraordinary. I have been quarantined. We had all been quarantined leading up to the film. We were tested four to five times a week.
Starting point is 02:03:27 The crew was a skeleton crew, so the people that we were exposed to as actors were, you know, I could count them in one hand. And everyone was masked and shielded. So in that sense, we felt very safe, thanks to production. And I just was so honored and so grateful that Michael Bay, Adam Goodman and Adam Mason believed in me to be able to tell the story and to join this remarkable cast, like Demi Moore, Bradley Whitford, talking Oscar nominees, KJ, who's incredible.
Starting point is 02:04:00 And, yeah, it was such a challenge, but it was the most rewarding and the greatest challenge of my life so far. Yeah, and it probably felt good just, getting back into the swing of things, right? Because it's the first movie that you shot after. Exactly. I mean, walking onto a film set, that day felt almost like the twilight zone in the best way because, you know, Los Angeles was in lockdown.
Starting point is 02:04:24 I remember driving to set, I was driving through the freeway and it was empty. And even being on set, the set is a, it's a quarantine zone. So you see like these quarantine signs everywhere. But the crew, everyone from our grips to cameras to our cameras, to our, cast or producers, everyone was just so thrilled and so grateful to be working first and foremost. And to be telling a story as important as this. And something that we were literally living as human beings meant a lot to us. Did you get to interact with your, with your co-stars? Like you said, so many amazing actors in this movie. But when I'm watching it, I'm like,
Starting point is 02:05:06 you know, there isn't everybody's kind of in their own. Yeah. Like there's just so I'm like, I'm like, I'm at, you know, you get to be in a movie with these amazing people,
Starting point is 02:05:16 but like did you get to interact with them at all, really? I mean, for our safety, no, that's the reason it's written like that. It's kind of inspiring Babel,
Starting point is 02:05:24 which is, you know, it follows different lives at the same time. However, I mean, KHA and I worked very closely together, but the day that DeMe
Starting point is 02:05:32 was on set, because she was only on set for a couple of days, I asked for permission to come just for watch. And I was just expecting to kind of be a sponge in the background and watch her. And she was so sweet when she heard that I was on set.
Starting point is 02:05:45 She had to be coming to her trailer. And we spoke for a good long time about life and the pandemic and politics and being in this incredible journey together. And she was just so humble and so grateful to be a part of this. And it was just so cool. And I met Bradley in passing. I also met Paul Walter Hauser, who was incredible because he had a fitting one day that I was on set. but it was definitely minimal interaction.
Starting point is 02:06:12 But overall, the tone was just excitement from everyone, which was so cool. Yeah, yeah. That's amazing to work with such a wonderful cast like that. I mean, especially, like I said, just getting off a quarantine and you're going into a new movie. Like, that is just amazing. Guys, I was petrified. I mean, I was like, what am I doing here? Like, what am I doing here?
Starting point is 02:06:34 And it was, you know, I feel so grateful that they believed in me. And I gave it my everything. And I learned so, so, so much from them and from the whole production. Yeah. Did you have any relationship with KJ before you guys did this movie? Or did you not know each other? No, I think we knew of each other. We had like distant mutual friends.
Starting point is 02:07:00 But that's it. That's it. We had never, we had never properly met. And actually the day that me went was my first day on set. So we had two days to bring to life this extraordinary Romeo and Juliet pandemic love. Right. And there's got to be such a challenge to, one, connect with your co-star in like a romantic way when you're able to actually be, you know, so much of your interaction is through your phone.
Starting point is 02:07:32 Like it's like what so many people have been dealing with. whether it's dating or meeting new people, obviously, you know, not as terrifying as it is for you guys in the movie. But it's, it was an interesting dynamic to see that play out when so many people I think have had to deal with not seeing loved ones or maybe even starting,
Starting point is 02:07:56 like, new relationships during this time if you meet someone and you can't actually meet them in person. That was what for me was so incredible to wrap my head around and catch it. And that's how we want. wanted our love to feel so real because like you say, it's definitely heightened in the movie because she can't open her door because it can kill her. So they're separated by three inches and yet it's like an ocean is between them and everything that they've ever wanted in life. But I was like,
Starting point is 02:08:24 how does someone fall in love without ever looking into each other's eyes, without ever feeling their touch on their skin, without ever listening to their voice in your ear? Like, how does that happen? We were trying to like imagine how it even happened. He dropped off a package and he heard my voice and he was like, this is the girl that I love. Like, how does that happen? So we kind of created the story and it was like, it's crazy, but it's real. Yeah. Yeah. The movie, it sounds intense, but also the way that you described it in the beginning. It also sounds hopeful and inspiring at the same time. Yes. And that's the story. That is the heart of songbird. Of course, it's a Michael Bay thriller.
Starting point is 02:09:06 And of course, it's dark and there's action because, you know, what we are living is scary. But the heart of it is love and the heart of it is hope. And I think that's what people will take away from it. Yeah. I also think it's really cool that you guys made this movie when you did because Hollywood always takes stories from real life. You know, like I'm sure as we continue on,
Starting point is 02:09:34 we will have plenty of movies that are surrounded through the pandemic or have the pandemic involved in some way. So you guys are like the first ones. I mean, it's incredible how they were able to pull this together. I mean, in history, it's the first movie to shoot during a global pandemic. And even saying those words is incredible. And the turnaround was written, started to write on March 17th, and here we are, December of the same year.
Starting point is 02:10:03 Yeah. Yeah, so crazy. So fast. So amazing. You have to wait. You have to wait years for movies to come out sometimes. Usually I wrap the movie and I don't watch the cut until a year later. At least nine months. This time we wrapped August.
Starting point is 02:10:20 Pretty sure I watched the first cut at the end of September. Wow. Wow. That's crazy. It's just a, like you said, so much credit to the crew and everybody who are able to put that together because that is. so, so fast. Wow, yeah.
Starting point is 02:10:37 Well, Sophia, we're big fans of you. We've watched tons of your things, like tons of your movies. I love, like, Rie and I always joke because we're like a little bit, not like aged out of Disney, but like we're still like, oh, we're like, oh, wait, can we talk about how much we love the descendants or is that really embarrassing for people? and they're like early 20s. I was at UCLA and like up until I was 18 years old
Starting point is 02:11:08 and I had watched Disney Channel proudly. I was like the Hannah Montana Golden Years like Wizards of Waverly plays high school musical. So let's talk about, I mean, it makes me so happy. And honestly like you're not the only ones. Like I close me away
Starting point is 02:11:24 every time, you know, pre-COVID when I could travel and I would do press stores, the age range. Yes, there are the little girls, but majority is like teenagers or early 20s. And I was like, this is so cool that this spoke to such a wide, you know, range of like men and women everywhere. It's wild.
Starting point is 02:11:46 Right. And I feel like I almost talk about it too much on the podcast how often I like watch Disney Channel sometimes. Like I'm like, oh, like, yeah, I was watching Sweet Live and Zach and Cody the other night. Just because it's like a comfort thing, you know, like you think back to when you're a kid and you just feel comfortable. Helps with anxiety, I feel like, re-watching something that you just know.
Starting point is 02:12:06 Well, that's true. Like, I've re-watched Skilmore Girls, I think, four times during quarantine, and it's just comfortable. But that's a good point on re-watching, like, classic Disney Channel, because it is comfortable. And also, the writing was great.
Starting point is 02:12:19 Like, the writing is so clever. Yeah. I find myself chuckling sometimes. I'm like, I'm, like, actually laughing at this right now, huh? Like, this is good. Yeah. But you, like, Like now with Songbird, right, that's a thriller.
Starting point is 02:12:33 It's a different genre than what you're used to. But you started off on Disney Channel. What was that like? I feel like everybody has a different experience, and I want to know what yours was like. You know, my experience was incredible, but I had a very different experience because I started. I was 21 going on 22 when I was cast and descended.
Starting point is 02:12:53 So I was, I mean, I would say grown woman, but I was a woman. You know, I had lived and had gone to high school. I was in college. So I'm very grateful for that because this is a really, you know, Hollywood is not real life. And it's very easy to confuse that with reality when it becomes your reality. And I'm, you know, in my 20s and sometimes it's easy to lose your ground. So I can't imagine. I always give so much credit to what, you know, my Cam, who started when he was seven years old.
Starting point is 02:13:22 And he was just the realist boy. He never lost that. He was a real, genuine, true human being. And that's rare. So I had a beautiful, beautiful experience as, you know, being on Disney Channel. It changed my life. Descendants, like, literally took me from being a girl who had spent 10 years working for this, being in school, you know, hustling, writing songs, doing that whole thing, going on auditions.
Starting point is 02:13:49 To remember I left final exams and I got cast and I was on the plane a couple weeks later and my life changed forever. And, yeah, it was magical. Everything about it, you know, descendants was an absolute. fairy tale, but it was a fairy tale for me too. That's amazing, because you just, and you love to see, um, the, the cast really connect. Like, you know, when you think about those classic Disney franchises, like you said, like high school musical, where still we love seeing when they're all together. We love hearing the stories about all of them on, on set.
Starting point is 02:14:20 And I feel like descendants has had that same power where people have always loved seeing you guys, um, and, and connecting with you guys. Like how much, like, did you expect to make three movies out of that? Well, you know, when I signed on, you always sign on for the option of having two more. Yeah. But, you know, you hope, but you never know. And even when we signed on to this, like, you know, I was actually called something else. I had like an alias.
Starting point is 02:14:50 And I knew that the channel was really excited about it. But I don't think any of us anticipated that it would grow to be this global phenomenon, it still is. Like, like you said, it's been over a year and a half since the last movie came out. And the fans adore it more and more every single day. And you can't explain. What can you expect or wrap your hat? I mean, I remember when I went to Japan with descendants, too, and I went with that. I remember in my head, I was like, I'm not going to know who I am in Japan. Like, it was crazy. And it was our biggest premiere, you know, like the story transcended. cultures, transcended languages, and it was beautiful. Do you think that your guest spot on Austin and Allie put you into the descendants?
Starting point is 02:15:41 Because I've seen so many, I think why this is coming to my brain, China and McLean, I remember her being in an episode of Hannah Montana and also her co-star, and they were an episode of Hannah Montana, and then all of a sudden they were on Ant Farm and they were starring an ant farm. So I was like, I feel like they always couple times. Yeah, they always put people in. That was fully like, that opened the door to everything. And it actually
Starting point is 02:16:07 happened shortly after Austin Alley. Because I remember, I shot Austin Alley over the summer. And I think my first audition for Descendants was that fall. And I had already, you know, Disney Channel the casting world had already kind of gone to know me a little bit. But when I
Starting point is 02:16:23 was up for my first role for descendants, I didn't get it. and get it. And then it was not until, I think, February, gosh, this feels like forever ago. It was February, and I was up for a role on Live and Maddie, another guest starring role. And I got sick. And for some reason, I couldn't do the guest starring role. And that was the reason I was able to go to the Descendants callback. It was this whole weird thing that have I got in the Live and Maddie role, I wouldn't have been able to be cast as Eve. Wow. So, you know, everything works out. Everything happens.
Starting point is 02:16:57 for a reason, like they say. So that is so incredible. Yeah, we've loved watching it. It's like one of those things, you know, I, my, um, my boyfriend has two nieces that are seven and five and they adore descendants, like, you know, Halloween costumes, the whole thing. Yeah, when they come over, it like, and they put a movie on. They're like, if they want to watch Descendants, they're watching since, maybe we're all eating dinner and his whole family jokes because they're like, Francesca, can, can you talk?
Starting point is 02:17:24 Like, you're watching the movie. We see you watching the movie. I'm like yeah sorry it's great like you can't put on descendants and think I can talk there's yes yeah I'm what am I supposed to do I love that so much do you guys have a favorite oh uh I mean I'm a sucker for like number one like I just think yeah like I just think that like and I feel the same way with other other trilogies and things like that like the first one just always feels the most nostalgic to me I know. Yeah. And I it's funny because but you go through this right, you're like, oh, but the third one, they wrap everything up and you love seeing it all come to an end. And then you're like, oh, but the second one, like, the second one needs love. It happens with every single Disney Channel movie that has had more than two movies with me where I'm like, I feel bad saying that I like like high school musical too, right? Like low key, my favorite. But if if I was put on the spot, I'd probably say one. I'd probably say one just because I'm like, that's the original.
Starting point is 02:18:29 I mean, of the high school musicals, I think the first is like, like you say, it's just iconic. And I guess it's different because, you know, I wasn't outside looking in. So I don't know what it's like to watch the Descendants movies like you guys did. I almost kind of wish that I could and see what they'd do when they watch them. So for me, the second one I always thought was a really special movie. but almost always I hear the first or the third. And especially now I hear the third all the time, which, you know, it's cool to hear that, but I wouldn't have expected.
Starting point is 02:19:03 Yeah, yeah. It's just everybody has their favorites, and it's so nice to see. And it's really just like such a cool thing to be a part of. And we've, we watched tons of, you know, tons of your other stuff. I got to say, Ria and I also both loved, famous in love. And we were robbed. We were robbed. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 02:19:24 Like I still to this day, like, I'm like, I can't believe we didn't get more of that show. What, it was it two seasons? I can't remember if it was two seasons or like, yes, I believe it was two seasons. But it ended so abruptly, no answers. I think I was in the last episode. I was, because I was a couple.
Starting point is 02:19:47 That was right when I was cast for PLL. Yeah, I remember now. Yeah, yeah. Pretty little liar. too. I mean, you've done a lot of cool shows. And I feel like, what was it like being on Pretty Little Lires? Because, I mean, at that point, the show was on for a really long time. Oh, yeah. I mean, it's funny. I didn't watch the show when it was on ABC. I watched it. I streamed it later. Actually, right before I was cast, like, my sister introduced me to the show and I, like, binge-watched it,
Starting point is 02:20:16 of course, I was obsessed with it. I think a couple months later was when I was cast. I mean, it was surreal to be a part of something as massive as that, like the PLL fan base. I mean, the designs and PLO are really, they're just so passionate. So to be a part of those two things at the same time was incredible. And also like Sasha and Janelle, Mona and A are, I feel like TV icons forever. So to be, you know, part of their story was, it was so cool. And we shot in Portland, which is such a cool city. And it was, you know, every time I get to shoot a movie, usually, except for song,
Starting point is 02:20:53 because of lockdown, I usually get to go somewhere else and I get to like live somewhere else and really kind of step into that world and that's always such a cool experience. And if you guys haven't been to Portland, it really kind of captures that world of PLL. And it's, it was really cool. Love that. And you also had a movie come out on Netflix called Field the Beat. That was like, it came out at the perfect time because we were all, you know, still totally locked down.
Starting point is 02:21:20 And I put on that movie. and just like had the best time. And when it ended, was just like, wow, that was exactly what I needed. Yeah. I can't tell you how happy that makes me. I mean, when we shot the movie, we had no idea that when we released if this is going to be happening in the world. And like you said, you know, the movie, I adored shooting this movie.
Starting point is 02:21:44 I mean, just working with Netflix, first of all, was a dream. And, you know, it was this beautiful, like, comedy. that was also nostalgic and kind of a coming of age movie and the kids, the actors in it were so... So cute. So cute. Yeah. It was so funny and so cute.
Starting point is 02:22:03 And I love like the representation that we had, all the characters. It made us feel happy when we were shooting it. And that's what I feel people have taken from it as they watched it. And there's nothing more important for us to do right now just to make people smile. And I'm so happy that that's what our... Oh, he did. Yeah, absolutely. Really did.
Starting point is 02:22:26 It really did. And I got to say, I feel like it kind of get catapulted. You know, Netflix always gives us, like, those young, hunky stars. Like, you know, we get Noah Centeno out of, like, all those Netflix. And Wolfgang, like, finished watching that. I was like, he is super cute. We saw him and we were like, uh-oh, Wolfgang's going to be in trouble. Yeah, definitely.
Starting point is 02:22:47 And I feel like it automatically, like, you just get more Netflix movies after that. Like once you get in the door, it just opens up the door. No, I was going to say, was that... Sorry, go for it. No, no, no, go ahead. What you say isn't wrong. Adam Mason, the director of Songbird, was watching Netflix the weekend that it premiered, watched Field the Beat.
Starting point is 02:23:09 Two days later, I was meeting with him. There you go. It just works out like that with Netflix. I mean, would you say that, yeah, yeah. Would you say that that was kind of a goal for you to get into a Netflix? film because I feel like right now actors and actresses, the goal is getting on a streaming service at this point because that's what everybody's watching. It's the world.
Starting point is 02:23:31 I mean, yeah, to be in a Netflix film right off your PLL was a dream just to open the door to that platform. And especially at the time that it came out when we had nothing else to do but to watch Netflix. So it was so, I mean, you know, I obviously watch Netflix every day. And for some reason, because Netflix wasn't around when I was little. So when I was little growing up, I dreamed of, you know, a billboard or I dreamed of being on a big stage. But when you see your face on Netflix, it's like a whole other ordeal. I was like, when I saw it was like, you know, when they say top in the U.S.
Starting point is 02:24:07 And it was like, feel the beat number one. I was like, feel the beat. I think a Jennifer Anniston movie. And then like Gilmore Girls. I was like, like, what is happening right? Wild, wild, wild. I have chills listening to that. Honestly, that must be an incredible feeling.
Starting point is 02:24:25 So well deserved, honestly. Yeah, yeah. And I was going to say, Ria, we had Brandon Cal Goodman on our show, too, right before the movie came out. And he was so amazing. We loved talking to him. And he had such a great role in that movie. And I really hope we see more of him.
Starting point is 02:24:48 He had like the nicest things to say about you because we were like, How was Sophia? He was like, oh, she's amazing. Right back. Like, we really bond, you know, we were living in Toronto for five months, so you really get close to your cast. And most of the classmates were quite young. So Brendan and I were the closest in age. And we really got really close and we're still very close for dear friends. And I admire him so much for everything he's been doing the last couple of months. He's such a powerful voice and just such a fine soul. Yeah, he was amazing. I mean, we remember when we wrapped, we went out and had dinner and celebrated together. So, and we've had,
Starting point is 02:25:20 had dinner a couple of times apart, you know, the free pandemic. And we get plans to continue that. But, you know, post-pandemic, we will. But he's, he's amazing, amazing. Yeah. Yeah, he seems like a really great guy. And I've honestly really enjoyed following him after interviewing him. I just, I, I love seeing where he's at. The big mouth thing is just super cool. Like, he was, he was writing for that show, too. So awesome. Yeah. And we, I got to, I want to ask you about maybe, like, some music from you? Like what do you have anything coming up? What's going on?
Starting point is 02:25:55 Because I love like you are so talented. And like I love listening to your music and I love, I'm a big like dance pop kind of in that, you know, quote, EDM worldish sort of sort of sort of thing. And some of your features are like some of my favorites. So what can you tell us about like maybe a little maybe something coming up if there's anything? Yeah, for sure. I mean, one of my favorites, this is not coming up, but the last year that was kind of in the EDM world, missed you more than you know, my rehab club was one of my favorite
Starting point is 02:26:30 songs I was ever lucky enough to release. I love that record so much. And there's something cool about the EDM world because the harmonies and the melodies are always kind of so haunting. Coming up, so I just really had gas I'm on art that came out not too long ago, which was so cool to release that. It premiered on Times Square, which was very cool. Very cool. I do have music coming up. I don't think it can reveal too much, but I have been recording and writing quite a lot through quarantine. And, you know, I shot, I may or may not have shot a music video last week for something. And exciting. Yeah. So there's coming up. Maybe an album at some point? Yeah. I've been teasing the album for a century.
Starting point is 02:27:13 Yeah. The business has changed so much. It's become a business of singles. And especially for an artist who is, I mean, not starting, but you know what I mean. I'm still growing in the music world and the music business. And it takes a second to really kind of define who you are and your sound and I'm at a place. I'm really loving where we are. And yes, soon and everything will compile into an album.
Starting point is 02:27:37 But I'm just going to keep saying soon. Yeah. That's smart. That's great. We'll take it. That's what Rihanna does. we just say okay. Exactly.
Starting point is 02:27:47 We just, you know, we're along for the ride. So can't wait to see what you have coming up and everyone can go stream. If you can watch Songbird, it's released December 11th. This episode will be out December. I believe this airs on next Monday. So the movie will be out at this point. Go watch it. Songbird will be available on demand.
Starting point is 02:28:12 I was going to say, is it everywhere? On demand, everywhere. Everywhere on demand. Awesome. Sophia, thank you so much for joining us. We're so excited to see what you do next. Thanks, guys. Thanks for your support.
