Welcome to another episode of Christ with coffee on ice. I am your host, Ali Yost. It is a joy and honor to be here with you guys today. Hello, everybody. Happy Friday. Um, today is May. 22nd, which means that my birthday was officially two days ago. And I'd imagine it was really nice.

I don't know. I'm filming a little bit more in the future right now. So I actually, technically, at the time of me recording right now, I am still 30 years old. But when this comes out, I'll be 31, which is so crazy. I'm excited about 31. I don't think it actually has anything to do with the number specifically, but more so, like I, I've just been praying a lot. And I don't know if you guys feel this way around your birthday. I mean, I think it can go one of two ways either. You're really, you know, you anticipate all of the exciting newness that comes with a birthday. But also, I think more times than not, maybe we kind of get the birthday blues where it's just like, I don't know, another year has gone by.

And I think that it's around this time, too, that if we had had expectations for, you know, the year that we just lived. doubt and maybe we're getting to this birthday and it's like wow okay um that year looked different than i had hoped it would um sometimes it can lead to the birthday blues you know i can't say that i feel very bluey i don't feel very bluey though actually i mean there are things that i thought would happen for me i guess in the year 30 but also a lot of things happened for me in the year 30 where i'm just so unbelievably grateful to the lord about so yeah i mean i'm not going to lie and say that like my life looks exactly the way I thought it would a year from now, but also there's so much that I actually am genuinely so grateful for that the Lord has done in this past year. And I think it's really

important to also reflect on all of the things that did go right, you know, and all of the ways that you have grown as an individual. Like, I think even looking back to who I was a year ago, the Lord has grown me so much. And he's matured my heart. And, but he's also continued to bring back child likeness in me as well. You know, I think maturing doesn't mean that it's an absence of the wonder that comes with being like a child. And so I think he's been continually restoring that in me of just learning what it means to actually be matured in Christ while also becoming more like a child. It's such a paradox that way, you know, where like two things that's, you know, where like two things that seems so, I mean, you'd think that those things would be very contrary to one another,

but I really, that's what I've been learning. And, yeah, so I'm very grateful for the year of 30, and I'm very anticipate for 31, and the rest of my 30s. And yeah, I'm just super grateful. So anyway, like I said, I'd imagine it was a nice birthday. I do know that right now in present time, I am doing a dinner with a few of my friends, which will be sweet. And today I was just shopping online to find a cute dress.

We're going to go to dinner. And so yeah, I'm just going to be really cute. And I'm going to be really girly. And birthdays are the best as a girl because you just get to like really be a girl. Like I want my birthdays to always be something where like I can just dress up and look cute. Okay? I just want to be a girl. And I want to wear a cute dress that potentially has some sparkles on it somewhere or all over.

And a really little kitten heel because I hate heels. It's got to be a kitten heel, but it can't be like a sneaker. So that's what I want to do. I want to be able to do my hair and makeup, and cake is definitely involved. And some sort of favorite food like a taco or a few tacos. I love tacos. I think we're going to a Mexican restaurant too. So it's just going to be amazing.

It's going to be amazing. Anyway, okay, guys, sorry, thanks for letting me share that with you. Happy Friday. I hope that you guys are doing well. Today is an exciting episode because we did hear your feedback. on two episodes ago that we did, so not last week, but the week before, where we were reading from the book of Genesis, and we're talking about the story of Joseph. And in that episode, we read chapters 37 and 38. And so today we're going to continue to chapters 39 and so on, to whatever that

means, maybe into 40, 41, I don't know, however long it takes us to get through it, but we are going to continue that story. I was very invested. I know you guys were also very invested. That's what we you're seeing in the comment section. I was hoping for that response because I was having so much fun reading the scripture with you and breaking it down and just like kind of digesting it and like chewing it up with you guys. We were in the same boat. We were all doing it together. And so I'm excited to do it with you today. And we're just going to continue to learn from the Lord. So I'm very anticipate and excited for today's episode. But before anything else, we do have our Christ, of course. We will be reading from the Bible today, guys.

So let's jump into it, guys. Let's go into Genesis. If you have your Bibles with you, that's amazing. That's ideal. That's perfect. I have always said this on the podcast. I'll say it again right now. I personally think it's the best when you can also like sit with your Bible alongside with me and just physically read along with, right?

Take notes, highlight, do all the things. I think that in this generation of the generation that we live in, I just think there's something about going back to the basics of like paper and pen, paper and highlighter. There's so much digital and obviously there's so many good things about you guys will see me. reading from my phone almost every episode right so we love digital it's helpful but i think what it comes to like impact at least for me maybe this isn't everybody's learning style but for me it's like i remember things so much better when i'm like physically reading it in front of me on paper and i'm physically writing and i'm highlighting like i don't know i just absorb it a lot better i don't know if anyone relates to that if you don't cool i want your brain if you could just hear something and it's there i love that for you

But anyway, I would really encourage you guys to follow along in your Bibles. If not, I'm happy to read it to you. If you're not in a place to have your Bible in front of you, that's okay. So yeah, so let's just break it down. Well, first off, let's start just reading. And then we'll do as we did last time where we'll just kind of jump around. I'll probably put in my commentary. And we'll just, we'll walk through it together.

And actually, before we jump into 39, because it has been a couple weeks, just as a good little refresher for you guys on what we read in that last. episode when we were reading Genesis 37 and 38. In 37, we have Joseph's story kicking off. His father Jacob loves him more, gives him that special coat, and his dreams of ruling over his brothers make them jealous. They sell him into slavery, and he ends up in Egypt. In 38, we paused Joseph's story for Judah and Tamar. Judah's sons are wicked and die. Tamar, his daughter-in-law, eventually secures her rightful place by disguising herself, leading to the line of Perez. Now, as we move into 39, Joseph's in Egypt in Potipher's house. So now as we move into

Chapter 39, we're going back to Joseph. Okay, so we took a little pause there. And now we're back into Joseph's story and remember he's in Egypt now. Okay, so he was sold into slavery and now he's in Egypt. When Joseph was taken to Egypt by the Ishmaelite traders, he was purchased by Potipher, an Egyptian officer. Potipher was captain of the guard for Pharaoh. the king of Egypt. The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master. Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did. This pleased Potifer, so he soon made Joseph his personal attendant. He put him in charge of his entire household and everything he owned. From the day Joseph was put in

charge of his master's household and property, the Lord began to bless Protifer's household for Joseph's sake. All his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops and livestock flourished. So, Potipher gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn't worry about a thing, except what kind of food to eat. Joseph was a very handsome and well-built young man, and Potipher's wife soon began to look at him lustfully. Come and sleep with me, she demanded. But Joseph refused. Look, he told her, my master trusts me. with everything in his entire household. No one here has more authority than I do.

He has held back nothing from me except you because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God. She kept putting pressure on Joseph day after day, but he refused to sleep with her, and he kept out of her way as much as possible. One day, however, no one else was around, and he went in to do his work.

She came and grabbed him by his cloak, demanding, come on, sleep with me. Joseph tore himself away, but he left his cloak in her hands and ran from the house. When she saw that she was holding his cloak and had fled, she called out her other servants. Soon all the men came running, look, she said, my husband has brought this Hebrew slave here to make fools of us.

He came into my room to rape me, but I screamed. When he heard me scream, he ran outside and got away, but he left his cloak behind with me. She kept the cloak with her until her husband came home. Then she told him her story. that Hebrew slave you've brought into our house tried to come in and fool around with me she said but when i screamed he ran outside leaving his cloak with me pottafer was furious when he heard his wife's story about how joseph had treated her so he took joseph and threw him into prison where the king's prisoners were held and there he remained but the lord was with joseph in prison and showed him his faithful love and the lord made joseph a favorite with the prison warden before long the warden put joseph in charge of all the other prisoners and a over everything that happened in the prison. The warden had no more worries because Joseph took care of everything.

The Lord was with him and caused everything he did to succeed. Okay, that's the end of chapter 39, and I do want to just take a second. Let's talk about that. Okay, let's talk about everything that just happened to Joseph. Because Joseph walks in God's favor with things like integrity and humility and honestly full reliance on God's wisdom, it becomes. evident to others. So when you walk in that kind of posture with the Lord and you have that kind of favor with God because you walk with God with integrity, humility. And it's honestly just fear of God.

Joseph just has fear of the Lord. Like he genuinely acknowledges that God is the very person that he gets his reliance on. Joseph's favor was first shown when he was in Potipher's house, right? what I think is really special too when I hear this part of the story is it's evident that Pharaoh doesn't actually share the same faith as Joseph. Okay. Even though Pharaoh didn't share Joseph's faith, he still recognized something exceptional about Joseph. And so something I think that would be a really cool takeaway in this part of the chapter is that the favor of God in someone's life often spills into the natural world creating trust, respect, or opportunity. It's not just with people who also share the same faith as you. Because of the favor that you have from God over your life, it absolutely can spill

into the natural world. That means that people who may not share the same faith as you can see that you are trustworthy. It's creating trust, respect, or opportunity. Okay, this is also a really, really important takeaway about the story of Joseph right now is just because you have favor from the Lord doesn't mean that your life is going to be easy, right? Or it's going to be a guarantee pass that things are just going to be smooth sailing because it's obvious that in Joseph's story, okay, he has been highly favored by the Lord. But yet he's had to go through so much. Like, his brother's basically like kicking him out of his family, hating him, lying to his own father saying that he had died, but really he was sold into slavery. So he's now a slave.

Then Pharaoh's wife, which we'll get to in a second, tries to seduce him. And when he said, no, I'm not doing that multiple times, she got mad, lies. Now the guy sent to prison, right? So it's obvious that like Joseph's life is not smooth sailing. But, But he somehow has had the favor of God over his life this whole time. And honestly, that also can be looked at as a bit of a paradox. Because it's like, how could all of these awful things be happening to Joseph? Apparently, he has favor of the Lord and, like, God's really pleased with him. How does that happen?

But honestly, I think even our episode from last week, I think this all beautifully kind of ties together is like, it's just a part of the journey. And God doesn't actually ever promise us that the journey is going to be easy, but he does promise that his presence will always be with us. and he will always turn everything for good at the end of the day. And he will be with us and we will have his favor and his love and his support. And he provides through all of it. It's so beautiful that we've already seen how much God actually is providing even for Joseph in this. Where it's like even as he's in prison, like one of the worst places to be, he actually receives so much favor. And there's like good that's brought out of that in such an awful situation.

where he has been unrightfully sent to prison for something he didn't do. So anyway, I think that both of these examples of, you know, Joseph being sold into slavery, now working in Pharaoh's home to then going to prison, it's a reminder that God's grace on us can positively impact others, whether they share our beliefs or not. It's about living in such a way that the light is undeniable. And I think that that's what was so undeniable for everybody who encountered Joseph and got to know him. is okay there's there's this light about him and whether you know that individual is a believer or not it's undeniable the light that came from joseph and so because of that he just received favor everywhere so a few key takeaways that i think we could take from chapter 39 here is obviously

as we've already discussed god's presence doesn't mean an easy life joseph is faithful but still faces injustice right so even in his faithfulness injustice happens but the The Lord has always made a way for Joseph. I think another really important key takeaway in this is that integrity matters. So obviously Joseph chooses what's right, even at a cost. Finally, God's favor is still at work, even in setbacks, positioning Joseph for bigger things ahead. Here at Christ with coffee and ice, we obviously talk a lot about purpose here, about finding the path God has set for us. And when it comes to education, that path should lead to a future that matters.

Sometime later, Pharaoh's chief cupbearer and chief baker offended their royal master. Pharaoh became angry with

these two officials and he put them into prison where Joseph was. In the palace of the captain of the guard, they remained in prison for quite some time and the captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, who looked after them. While they were in prison, Pharaoh's cup bearer and Baker each had a dream one night, and each dream had its own meaning. When Joseph saw them the next morning, he noticed that they both looked upset. Why do you look so worried today? He asked them. And they replied, we both had dreams last night, but no one can tell us what they mean. Interpreting dreams is God's business, Joseph replied, go ahead and tell me your dreams. So, the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream first. In my dream, he said, I saw a grapevine in front of me. The vine had three branches and began to bud and blossom,

and soon it produced clusters of ripe grapes. I was holding Pharaoh's wine cup in my hand, so I took a cluster of grapes and squeezed the juice into the cup. Then I placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand. This is what the dream means, Joseph said. The three branches represent three days. Within three days, Pharaoh will lift you up and restore you to your position as chief cup bearer. And please remember me and do me a favor when these things go well for you. Mention me to Pharaoh so he might let me out of this place. For I was kidnapped from my homeland, the land of the Hebrews, and now I'm here in prison, but I did nothing to deserve it.

When the chief baker saw that Joseph had given the first dream such a positive interpretation, he said to Joseph, I had a dream too. In my dream, there were three baskets of white pastries stacked on my head. The top basket contained all kinds of pastries for Pharaoh. But the birds came and ate them from the basket on my head. This is what the dream means, Joseph told him. The three baskets also represent three days. Three days from now, Pharaoh will lift you up and impale your body on a pole.

The birds will come and peck away at your flesh. Pharaoh's birthday came three days later, and he prepared a banquet for all his officials and staff. He summoned his chief cup bearer and chief baker to join the other officials. He then restored the chief cup bearer to his former position, so he could again hand Pharaoh his cup. But Pharaoh impaled the chief baker just as Joseph had predicted when he interpreted his dream. Pharaoh's chief cup bearer, however, forgot all about Joseph, never giving him another thought. Okay, moving on to chapter 41. Also, I just want to say I have faith that Joseph's time will come.

I'm very bummed for him that at the end, the chief cup bearer actually totally forgot about Joseph. but we do have to remember that he does have favor of the Lord over his life, right? So surely his time will come when he will be released from prison. Two full years later, Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing on the bank of the Nile River. In his dream, he saw seven fat healthy cows come up out of the river and began grazing in the marsh grass. Then he saw seven more cows come up behind them from the Nile, but these were scrawny and thin. these cows stood beside the fat cows on the riverbank. Then the scrawny thin cows ate the seven healthy fat cows.

At this point in the dream, Pharaoh woke up. But he fell asleep again and had a second dream. This time he saw seven heads of grain, plump and beautiful, growing on a single stalk. Then seven more heads of grain appeared, but these were shriveled and withered by the east wind. And these thin heads swallowed up the seven plump well-formed heads, Then Pharaoh woke up again and realized it was a dream. The next morning, Pharaoh was very disturbed by the dreams. So he called for the magicians and wise men of Egypt.

When Pharaoh told them his dreams, not one of them could tell him what they meant. Finally, the king's chief cupbearer spoke up. Today, I have been reminded of my failure, he told Pharaoh. Some time ago, you were angry with the chief baker in me, and you imprisoned us in the palace of the captain of the guard. One night the chief baker and I each had a dream, and each dream had its own meaning. There was a young Hebrew man with us in prison who was a slave of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he told us what each of our dreams meant, and everything happened just as he had predicted.

I was restored to my position as cupbearer, and the chief baker was executed and impaled on a pole. Pharaoh sent for Joseph at once, and he was quickly brought from the prison, after he shaved, and changed his clothes. He went in and stood before Pharaoh. Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, I had a dream last night, and no one here can tell me what it means. But I have heard that when you hear about a dream, you can interpret it. It is beyond my power to do this, Joseph replied, but God can tell you what it means and set you at ease. So Pharaoh told Joseph his dream. In my dream, he said, I was standing on the bank of the Nile River and I saw seven fat healthy cows come up out of the riverbank and began grazing in the marsh grass. But then I saw seven sick-looking cows,

scrawny and thin, come up after them. I've never seen such sorry-looking animals in all the land of Egypt. These thin, scrawny cows ate the seven fat cows, but afterward you wouldn't have known it. They were still as thin and scrawny as before. Then I woke up. In my dream, I also saw seven heads of grain, full and beautiful, growing on a single stalk. Then seven more heads of grain appeared, but they were blighted, shriveled, and withered by the east wind. And the shriveled heads swallowed the seven healthy heads. I told these dreams to the magicians, but no one can tell me what they mean. Joseph responded, both of Pharaoh's dreams mean the same thing. God is telling Pharaoh in advance what he is about to do. The seven healthy cows and the seven healthy heads of grain both represent

seven years of prosperity. The seven thin scrawny cows that came up later and the seven thin heads of grain, withered by the East Wind, represents seven years of famine. This will happen just as I have described it, for God has revealed to Pharaoh in advance what he is about to do. The next seven years will be a period of great prosperity throughout the land of Egypt, but afterward there will be seven years of famine so great that all the prosperity will be forgotten in Egypt. Famine will destroy the land. This famine will be so severe that even the memory of the good years will be erased. As for having two similar dreams, it means that these events have been decreed by God, and he will soon make them happen. Therefore, Pharaoh should find an intelligent and wise man to put him in charge of the...

Ooh, this is good. Okay, I see where this is going. Do you guys see where this is going? Listen, therefore, Pharaoh should find an intelligent and wise man to put him in charge of the entire land of Egypt. Who do we think that could be? I don't know. Okay, let's keep reading. Then Pharaoh should appoint supervisors over the land and let them collect one-fifth of all the crops during the seven good years. Have them gather all the food produced in the good years that are just ahead and bring it to Pharaoh's storehouses. Store it away and guard it so there will be food in the cities. That way there will be enough to eat when the seven years of famine come to the land of Egypt. Otherwise, this famine will destroy the land.

Joseph's suggestions were well received by Pharaoh and his officials. So Pharaoh asked his officials, Can we find anyone else like this man So obviously filled with the spirit of God? Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, Clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. You will be in charge of my court,

and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours. That's crazy! That's so crazy that Joseph's so crazy that Joseph's life was just immediately changed from literally being in prison to now being one of, if not the most powerful man in Egypt aside from Pharaoh himself. Pharaoh said to Joseph, I hereby put you in charge of the entire land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh removed his signet ring from his hand and placed it

on Joseph's finger. He dressed him in fine linen clothing and hung a gold chain around his neck. Then he had Joseph ride in the chariot reserved for his second in command. And wherever, Joseph went, the command was shouted, kneel down, so Pharaoh put Joseph in charge of all of Egypt. And Pharaoh said to him, I am Pharaoh, but no one will lift a hand or foot in the entire land of Egypt without your approval. Wow. Then Pharaoh gave Joseph a new Egyptian name. Okay, no offense, but Joseph was a way easier name than this. What the heck is this? Zaffanath. Panna? Okay, bud. Do I have to keep saying that? Or do we still call him Joseph? Okay, cool.

No, I'm just, I would have just called him Z-P. I'm not going to say that. He would have really just been Z-P from now on. Okay. He also gave him a wife whose name was Asineth. Maybe. That's how you say it. She was the daughter of Pidofara, the priest of On. So Joseph took charge of the entire land of Egypt. He was 30 years old when he began serving in the court of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. And when Joseph left Pharaoh's presence, he inspected the entire land of Egypt. As predicted, for seven years, the land produced bumper crops. During those years, Joseph gathered all the crops grown in Egypt and stored the grain from the surrounding fields in the cities. He piled up huge amounts of grain like sand on the seashore. Finally, he stopped keeping record, because there was too much to measure.

During this time, before the first of the famine years, two sons were born to Joseph and his wife. Asineth, the daughter of Potifera, the priest of on. Right, okay, I guess we're just emphasizing again who his wife is. Cool. Joseph named his older son Manasseh, for he said, God has made me forget all my troubles and everyone in my father's family. Joseph named his second son, Ephraim, for he said,

God has made me fruitful in this land of my grief. At last, the seven years of bumper crops throughout the land of Egypt came to an end, and the seven years of famine began. Just as Joseph had predicted, the famine also struck all the surrounding countries, but throughout Egypt, there was plenty of food. Eventually, however, the famine spread throughout the land of Egypt as well. And when the people cried out to Pharaoh for food, he told them, go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you. So with severe famine everywhere, Joseph opened up the storehouses and distributed grain to the Egyptians, for the famine was severe throughout the land of Egypt, and people from all around came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph because the famine was severe throughout the world. Should we recap? Well, I think one important thing to, or at least I'll say the first thing that's very important for us to point out about this chapter. And something that could probably be painfully relatable, even in the year 2026. Okay, we're talking about something that happened a long time ago, but also nothing new is under the sun. I think this is something that we go through, obviously, even to this day, is that God's timing can feel painfully delayed, but it's never accidental.

So Joseph waited, right? This guy waited and waited and waited to get out of prison. I don't know how long he was in prison. Obviously, it started with him being betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and then forgotten in prison. So he was in prison for something he was falsely accused and then he was forgotten about. Right? And yet suddenly in one chapter, which is chapter 41, we just read, all of a sudden everything changes for Joseph. So I think a huge lesson in this is that God may develop you privately before revealing you publicly, right?

I think that God was doing a lot of that with Joseph during this time. Joseph's prison season wasn't wasted. It prepared him for leadership, wisdom, humility, and dependence on God. That's so good. God did not even waste Joseph's time in prison, right? Because it's not only like, I'm sure that Joseph was drawing closer to God and I'm sure that his relationship, I mean, he probably had all the time in the world. to like deepen his relationship with God, but God actually put him in a position of leadership even in prison.

So even his time in prison, even his time in waiting was actually time of preparation. Our God is an efficient God. Okay. So even if you are in any kind of waiting season, if you're in a season where you're like, hey, God, I'm waiting for the breakthrough. God is going to use that season for your good.

And it's likely that he's preparing you. He's not going to waste that time. there will be preparation, okay, he's cooking you. He's preparing you. He's maturing you, right? And so God was actually helping Joseph become a better leader in his time in prison. He was preparing him for leadership, wisdom, humility, and dependence on God. That's so stinking good.

That alone is such a relevant topic because I think we often actually just want the promise without the process. Like the truth is is that if we're ever put into a situation of having to wait or be patient or it feels like it's delayed, a lot of us just want the promise. We want the results. We want God to just come through and we don't want the process of which that actually leads us to the promise. I think all of us are in some kind of process right now. I just I can't imagine that a single one of us listening right now isn't in some kind of process. He's always molding us. There's always a process of some sort. Okay? And so I fall guilty to that too, where I'm like, I don't want to go through the process. This actually kind of hurts. And I'm done being patient.

And I don't want to be here anymore. I'm ready to get on the other side now, God. Okay? I'm ready for the promise. I'm done here. I don't want to do. It's uncomfortable. But the truth is, it's like there's got to be a process.

It's just how the Lord works. Okay? There's actually a lot more good in the process than our flesh probably wants. to believe, right? Because it's just uncomfortable most of the time. I think another really cool thing that I do love about Joseph, okay, is that it's very evident that Joseph never takes any glory for himself. He never takes any credit. Like when Pharaoh called him back and was like, hey, I heard that you're like literally the only person that can interpret dreams. So whatever you got, like whatever it is about you, I need it. And Joseph was like, yeah, it's not me. It's actually just God. But,

happy to help you and it's just cool that Joseph again he's just demonstrating such humility he's such a humble being like he even in that moment I'm sure he could have he could have taken all the credit but he was like uh no it's actually not me the only reason I'm capable of this is because of God it's because of the relationship I have with him it's because he speaks to me um so yeah I can tell you but it's God it's not me Joseph had every opportunity to make himself look impressive in front of Pharaoh but instead he said, I can't do it, but God can. And so, yeah, it's just like a really beautiful representation of humility, security, dependence, and reverence for the Lord. It's so beautiful. I'm so proud of our brother Joseph. He did such a great job at that. Joseph understood the difference

between being gifted and being the source. Okay. So it's also not that we, um, we don't have to have any kind of false humility where it's like we can't admit that we have gifts, but even our gifts are from God. Yeah, I think it's really cool that Joseph had such wisdom to be able to separate those two things where he knows the difference between being gifted and then what the actual source is. Joseph did not use God to elevate himself. He allowed God to be seen through him. Oh my gosh, Lord, let that just be like the biggest prayer of our lives, Lord. Let us be the vessel that just glorifies you and it is never about exulting ourselves but it actually just points unbelievers and people who do not know you to you like what's so cool about what joseph is doing in this is he's low key high key

evangelizing he's literally telling the king of egypt by the way he's like yeah pharaoh it's god he allowed god to be seen through him i think that's so beautiful this one i feel like i don't know We're kind of beating a dead horse with this one, but favor doesn't mean an exemption from suffering. I think we went over that, right? So the favor of God didn't remove hardship from Joseph's life. It sustained him through hardship. I think that's really good. I think favor of God actually more so sustains us through hardship rather than taking hardship away from our lives. It's our fuel. It's the very thing that we live off of through hard times. I think something that also is very beautiful. about this chapter is I think more of God's character is obviously revealed to us through the story of

Joseph. Chapter 41 is showing us that God is sovereign, right? God is orchestrating events long before people realize it. Even the delay of the cup bearer for getting Joseph becomes part of the perfect timing. Another characteristic that's shown to us of who God is is that he's faithful. God keeps his promises, even when circumstances look opposite of the promise. We are also shown that God is provider. God warns Egypt ahead of the famine and provides wisdom for preservation. So I think that that obviously reveals a lot of God's heart for his people. Is that obviously a famine was coming, but he warned, he actually warned the king.

Obviously, King Pharaoh didn't know how to interpret it. So then he gives Joseph this gift of interpreting dreams. But like all through that, that's God's mercy, you know, and his way of providing for everybody in Egypt, while also blessing Joseph, where he gets to be exalted to being the most powerful man in Egypt aside from Joseph. And that leads us into another characteristic that is shown to us of who God is, which is exaltor of the humble. Joseph doesn't force his way to the top. God actually lifts him up in due time. I think something that's worth like really sitting with God about, I think even after this podcast and into next Friday, like something that we could continue to ponder with and just

reflect on with God and allow him to even speak to us more about is like what it really actually means to have favor of the Lord over your life. And it's actually so insane that this is happening right now. again, you guys already know this about me. I actually, for the most part, don't really plan these episodes. So sometimes they unfold in a way where I'm like, it's like reflecting even things that God is personally walking me through. But something that I even woke up this morning about was like, and I even said this to him in my secret time. This is crazy. I said this to him in my quiet time today. I was like, God, I've always, like, I've always had like the definition of what it means to have favor. Oh my gosh, this is crazy. Sorry, I'm just like actively having a revelation right now. But I was always, like, I was always, like, I was like, I'm just going to admit, I don't really even know what it means to truly actually have your favor. Like, it's not that I don't believe I have favor. I just don't think I've really understood the deep, deep, like, actual meaning of what it means to have favor of the Lord, to, like, literally be a friend of God, and he favors you. Like, he actually cherishes you and

listens to you and cares for you. Like, these are all characteristics of God that we've always known. Like I've always known this. You've probably always known this. Like as long as you've been a Christian, you're like, yeah, of course. That's who God is. What do you mean? But like there's a deeper opportunity for all of us right now, you guys. Okay, Holy Spirit, have your way.

Do your thing. Like, this isn't even me anymore. There is a deeper revelation that God is inviting all of us in as children of really understanding what that means. Like truly understanding what it means to have favor of the Lord. And I don't have the answer for you right now. I don't because this is something that I'm also actively walking through. and maybe this is something fun that we can do for next week's episode.

We're like, you know, I don't know. I don't know. We'll see how long this is something that I like sit with God about. But it'd be cool for us to bring it up again sometime in the future. But some homework that I will give you right now. That's honestly just from dad. Dad's giving us all homework right now is to sit with him and really ponder about what the definition of, or like just what it really means to have favor of the Lord. What does it actually mean for God to favor you?

What does that look like? What does he think of you? If you have favor of God, what does that mean he thinks of you as his kid? What does that mean he'll do for you as his kid? What does that mean for you as you walk in your everyday? What does that mean for you as you're living life and walking around and just doing your everyday here on earth?

Like, what does that look like? Because for Joseph, it was undeniable, the favor of God that was on his life by other people, whether they believed in God or not. And so what does that look like for you in your life? And just to list off some things, maybe to get the juices flowing, this is going to be so fun for you. Because if you haven't had a really good excuse to, like, sit with Jesus and ponder with him and invite the Holy Spirit into just having deeper revelation, it's so cool to learn from the Holy Spirit. And your world is probably going to be rocked.

There's a good chance you'll probably weep about it. I'm just so expected and excited for you guys in this. But anyway, some things to kind of get our juices flowing is I think something to challenge. if this is an idea that we've had of what favor looks like, the idea of favor always looking like comfort, success, visibility, or ease, some things that are going to maybe challenge us in our time as we reflect with God is sometimes favor actually looks like being sustained, being refined, being hidden, being prepared, and becoming trustworthy before promotion arrives.

This is a really good question that we're all going to write down in our journals right now. If you haven't been writing and taking notes during this episode, that's totally fine. But whip out your freaking notes app. Do something. This is the question that I want all of us to ponder on, including myself. We are all in the same boat, okay? What would change about the way you walk through life if you truly believed you already had God's favor? Not because of what you do, but because of who you are to him.

That's so sweet. So this question is going to help us to think of. a little bit more about who you are in Christ and what you mean to him, how he sees you in his eyes and then how the world sees you because of that. That's good. Because I just think the real truth is that we will just show up differently in the world when we actually walk in a posture and in a way that believes that you have the favor of God. Like if you start showing up in the as someone where you're like, no, I am favored by God. And this is what he thinks of me.

This is who I am to him. I was once an orphan and now I have been adopted into royalty through Christ, through his blood. But it's like, this is who I am now because of Christ. I'm not adopted into the kingdom of God. I'm not adopted into royalty because of anything I did or earned, but it's because he is the king of kings. He is Lord of Lords.

He is the name above all names. And so when he chooses you, it's nothing that you did. It's actually because of him that you are now an heir of royalty. Why don't we believe that? That's another question that we're going to reflect on is, and what is the obstacle? What is the roadblock? What is the thing that is actually severing you from believing that? That is your identity and that's what you mean to Jesus.

That's actually how much you mean to him. okay let's pray everybody we're gonna seal this by the blood i love this i'm very expected and i'm super excited for all of us jesus i thank you for today god i thank you for your blood i thank you that we truly are adopted into your kingdom through your blood and sacrifice and honestly you're you're just picking us like you've you picked us you chose us and we don't really know why but we ask God that your Holy Spirit, we invite you Holy Spirit into this, that you will bring us into deeper revelation and understanding of what it truly means to have our identity through you and that we are chosen by you and we have your favor. What does that even mean? So I pray God

that from this moment until we come back together next week that you just continue to speak to your children. God, I pray that you continue to speak to your son or your daughter on the other end of this podcast and you continue to just reveal to them who you are and who they are in your eyes. What do you think of them? How do you see them? Who are they really that they have been blind to seeing? And I pray that because of that revelation, they are able to show up differently in the world and they are able to reflect more of you because they believe in who they are through you. and they believe in all of the really sweet, beautiful, romantic, loving ways that you think of them. And so I pray all of these things in Jesus' name.

And I plead the blood of Jesus over this episode. God, thank you for the gift of Revelation. Holy Spirit, we couldn't do it without you. In Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Everybody. What a great episode.
