Hello everybody. Welcome to another episode of Christ with coffee on ice. I am your host,
Ali Yost, and I am so grateful to be back with you guys on this episode. Welcome. I have my
coffee on ice. It's almost gone, though. I really should have poured myself a little bit more.
I've been sipping on it a little bit today already. So, and I did another pumpkin spice because tis, this
season. I know that this whole podcast is now branded on iced coffee, but we are now entering the
season of hot coffees because it's going to be fall and then it's going to be winter. Who the
heck is drinking an iced coffee in the middle of winter? I didn't think that one through.
I mean, I guess there could be some people. Sometimes you are just craving an iced coffee instead of a
warm one, but I legitimately don't use my curing. Unless it is from September.
to like February.
And then I don't use it for the rest of the year because I just don't,
I don't want a hot coffee in the middle of like April or May.
I don't know.
That's just me.
But anyway, welcome to another episode.
And I'm really excited to dive into the word.
And I'm also so excited to just talk about Jesus with y'all.
And I think we need it.
I need it.
I need it so much today.
and I just pray that today's episode impacts somebody and blesses them.
The scripture that I'm going to read today is also from Matthew.
I say that because last episode, if you already listened to it,
we break down a parable that's from Matthew.
Matthew is one of my favorite parts of the Bible as of right now.
I know that that can change, but right now I love it.
I really want to just talk more about it.
And it's funny because I spoke a little bit about this online.
And if you haven't watched The Chosen yet, first off, I could not recommend it more.
That show was a show that helped me grow so much more in my faith.
I was already so on fire for Jesus.
But watching that show while also reading the Bible, there are so many times that I've read the Bible after watching that show.
And I will come along a part of the Bible that was an episode.
And I'm like, I see the scene in my head.
And it's just such a cool thing what they're doing with that show because, first off, it is incredibly, incredibly put together.
Like the cast, the crew, the visuals, the wardrobe.
I mean, it is incredible.
It is definitely not a show that's going to make you fall asleep.
even if you are not a super religious person, it's insanely entertaining.
And I personally felt like I learned so much.
Like I was putting visuals to these events that happened in the Bible.
And it's just so cool to see it firsthandly.
So I talked about this part of Matthew online.
And I kept getting all of these comments from you guys saying,
this scene in The Chosen brought me to tears.
Like this scene was incredible. This was so good. Like, have you seen the shows and Allie, you have to watch it. You have to watch it. You have to watch it. So I was officially peer pressured into watching the show. And I did it after getting so many comments from y'all being like, Allie, you have to watch the show. What are you doing? You're literally talking about parts of the Bible that is covered in the show. You have to watch it. And wow was it the biggest blessing. The biggest blessing to watch that show. I do have to say I'm not a big like TV person. I'm not a big like TV person. I'm not a
big show person. So for me to sit down and binge something, I would have to be so obsessed with it.
I can't even tell you the last time I sat down and watched, just binged a show. Like, I just don't have
the patience. I don't have the time to do that anymore. But I was like, but this is for Jesus.
This is for educational purposes. This is to strengthen my faith. I can sit down and binge this all day
if I want. And was it rewarding? I am the biggest chosen fan. I am. I am the biggest chosen fan. I
am such a big fan. You have to watch it, y'all. If you haven't watched it, you have to watch it.
So anyway, incredible show. So grateful for you guys for just encouraging me to watch it. And they just
finished season four. I know this because I stocked their Instagram and I'm just like all over them.
But they just finished season four in July. I think they stopped recording it. So it'll be out by
January maybe. I think they said it would be out by January. Like the beginning of 20.
I am so insanely excited for that. Y'all, I was wrong. I was so wrong. This is in Luke. So this is Luke
840. It is the story of Jesus raising a dead girl and healing a sick woman. I heard this in church
and it just lit up my mind, blew my mind. I loved it because I feel like there were two different
kind of perspectives that came from this story. And I want to share both of them with you guys.
But first we're going to read it and then we're going to go back and kind of break it down.
Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. Then a man named
Gyrus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus' feet, pleading with him to come to his house
because his only daughter, a girl of about 12 years old, was dying. As Jesus was on his way,
The crowds almost crushed him, and a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for 12 years,
but no one could heal her.
She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
Who touched me? Jesus said.
When they all denied it, Peter said, Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.
But Jesus said, someone touched me. I know that power has gone out from me.
Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet.
In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed.
Then he said to her daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.
While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader, and said, your daughter is dead.
Don't bother the teacher anymore.
Hearing this, Jesus said to Gyrus,
Don't be afraid, just believe, and she will be healed.
When he arrived at the house of Gyrus,
he did not let anyone go in with him except for Peter, John, and James,
and the child's father and mother.
Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her.
Stop wailing, Jesus said.
She is not dead, but asleep.
They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead.
but he took her by the hand and said my child get up her spirit returned and at once she stood up then jesus told them to give her something to eat her parents were astonished but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened so you hear that story and i know it's hard to believe because like who the heck can just bring someone from the dead or who can just heal somebody who has been bleeding for 12 years essentially this woman
had a condition where she was constantly bleeding. And I learned so much even just from watching
the chosen because it just put it all together, you know? Because of this illness that this woman had,
she was looked at as untouchable, as dirty, filthy, contagious, gross. Okay. So she basically
was forbidden by others because of this illness she had. She had tried everything. At this point,
in Jesus's life, he had already performed miracles.
So word was getting around of who he was.
So with that, there was a huge crowd around him of people wanting to see him, wanting to know him.
I mean, he was the word of the town, as you can imagine, okay?
So he's trying to get through this crowd to get to this synagogue leader's home,
Jiris's home, to heal his daughter.
This woman is basically shoving herself through this crowd to get to Jesus.
She has tried everything.
She's heard what he's done for others and she says, I need to see this for myself.
I have tried everything else in my life.
I need to see this for myself.
I need to touch him.
I need to know him.
I need to reach him.
She just simply touches the edge of his cloak and it heals her.
This woman is all of us.
And the crowd is life.
is obstacles, is the enemy. Her faith and her hope in Jesus, she was so determined that she shoved her way
through that crowd and just touched him. Now the thing about the Holy Spirit and just touching Jesus,
just a little, is that once you get a taste of how unbelievably kind and loving and healing he is,
you will not go unnoticed by him.
He stops in that crowd and says,
who touched me?
He knew exactly who touched him.
BT Dubs, he knew.
She realized that she couldn't go unnoticed.
God sees you.
God sees you.
When you are reaching for him,
when you are crying for him,
when you are desperate,
even when you don't have the words,
he sees you.
After that moment,
she knew she couldn't just run away.
and say, okay, thanks, bye.
That's not how it works with Jesus.
She trembled and fell at his feet.
And in the presence of all the people,
she told why she had touched him
and how she had been instantly healed.
That's her testimony.
That's our testimony.
That moment when she realized
that Jesus was the only thing that could heal her.
Her bleeding for 12 years was her sin.
Her bleeding for 12 years was her trying to do life without him.
him. Her bleeding for 12 years was her depression. Her bleeding for 12 years was her addiction.
Whatever your bleeding is, Jesus can heal that. Jesus is the only answer. He is the healer of all.
Each and every one of us are so meant to have a testimony because we are supposed to be living
proof that he exists to encourage one another and prove to the rest of the world just how real God is.
if she did not bleed for 12 years, she would have never had the testimony she would and said,
I suffered for a majority of my life.
And the minute I touched Jesus, the minute I knew him, I was healed.
Now, the other part of this story is that as Jesus was on his way to Jairus' daughter, she died.
And everyone laughed at him.
They said, you know what?
Don't even bother coming anymore.
You call yourself the healer of all.
I'd like to think of those people in this story as people who don't have full faith in him at all.
Those people in the story are obviously people who can also represent nonbelievers.
Something else that you can take from that is that it is so important to have people in your corner
and people that you are surrounded with who are also encouraging you in your faith
and our believers, if you were ever at a point in your life where you felt like Jesus wasn't showing up on time
to what your standards would be or your expectations would be or your timing would be, right?
Our timing is always going to be different than gods.
We will think that we know exactly when things are supposed to be happening when they're supposed to happen
and we're going to think that we know what's best for us.
and sometimes we can feel disappointed because we're not getting it when we think we need it.
But in reality, God knows so much more,
and he has so many more little pieces lined up behind the scenes
that we don't even see or know or realize.
That could even happen years down the road.
So if there is something in your life where you feel like God didn't come in time,
didn't save this 12-year-old daughter in time,
and you have people in your life like these people who love,
laugh at your faith in God and say, oh yeah, well, if your God is so real, why didn't he come and save you?
You need people in your corner who encourage you and remind you how good God's timing is and that when
it looks like it's the end, it's never the end.
If it looks like death to you, if it looks like he hasn't come yet, if it looks like he didn't
come in time, you need people in your corner that remind you that God's timing is
perfect and that he can quite literally heal people who have been bleeding for 12 years he can bring
people back to life from death god is never late it is never too late for jesus to perform a miracle
that's for darn sure this little girl had literally died and jesus was still able to save her
isn't that insane he can make anything happen now the other cool part about this scene from the
chosen is that regardless of all the people who were laughing in Jiris's face, his faith in Jesus,
he was skeptical, right? We can all kind of stay a little skeptical and unsure about God,
especially when we're in the midst of pain and confusion and it doesn't seem to make sense.
But as long as we continue to have our faith in him, he will always show up for us.
So the cool thing that they showed in this scene as well, in the chosen, was
that they showed the people laughing and crying and being like, she's dead.
What do you think you're going to do now?
Like, just go home, Jesus.
There's nothing you can do here.
She's gone.
In the midst of all of that, Jiris told those people, looked at him, looked at Jesus,
Jesus says, it's going to be okay.
I got this.
Because of his faith in Jesus, seeing how Jesus has said, I got you, get everybody out of the house.
He said, leave my home, tells all those people to leave.
Jesus goes upstairs, performs the miracle, raises this little girl from the dead because of
Jairus's faith, regardless of the people who laughed in his face.
Come on.
Regardless of the people who told him it was impossible.
Regardless of the people who laughed and said, it's not possible.
He cannot revive her.
And you can see it, like the way that they perceived Jiris.
too in this scene. Like, he was definitely still a little like, okay, Jesus, I'm going to trust you,
but also I'm a little confused. I don't know how possible this is going to be, but I'm still going to
have my faith in your hands, right? We can always stay a little skeptical and a little nervous
about what God's plan is until he shows us just how capable he is. Imagine if Jiris in that
moment was like, you know what, they're right actually. Jesus, go, leave. Get out of my house.
They're right. She's dead. You're too late. You had the opportunity to perform a miracle for me and it was too late because you were too caught up in performing this other miracle for someone else. You were too late for me. You prioritize someone else over me. You blessed them and you didn't bless me. First off, he would have given in to the enemy because the enemy wants us to believe that God can't perform the things he can perform. He also wants us to believe that God can be late.
and that if we are not getting the results that we want, right when we want them,
then he doesn't love us and he doesn't care about us.
He's off blessing other people and he's forgetting about us.
Another incredible perspective that you could take from this too
is just because you see God blessing other people
doesn't mean that he's not on his way to you.
Doesn't mean that you're not next.
Just because you see Jesus working miracles in other people's lives
and you're still waiting, doesn't mean he's not on his way to you.
It doesn't mean that you are not that little girl that he is on his way to.
If you had just stayed a little bit longer, if you just hold your hope and your faith a little bit longer, he will be there.
And just like we said in the last episode, God has enough blessings for all of us, more than enough.
God's blessings are on time.
Even when it doesn't feel like it, even when you feel desperate, even when you feel confused,
even when you feel lost, even when you feel burdened.
I'm telling you, he has a plan and his blessings are so on time.
The biggest part about having faith in him is trusting him in the unknown.
Having faith is trusting him in the mud.
And even when it feels like it's too late, even when it feels like he hasn't come soon enough,
he's never late.
I just love that story.
I think that there are so many things that you can take from it that are just such beautiful.
reminders of how faithful God is and how he loves every single one of us. And as long as you stay
faithful. And that was the common denominator between both of these people. The woman who pushed through
the crowd just to get a taste of Jesus, that's her faith. And same with Gyrus. Even walking through
the crowds with Jesus, even hearing the news that it was too late, even with not really knowing what Jesus
was going to do, he still held his faith with him. And in both scenarios, their prayers were answered
and they were both healed. God is good. God is good and God is faithful. He will always bless
the ones who stay faithful. He will answer the prayers of those who stay faithful. He will reward
your faithfulness. No matter what. No matter what, you will not come out of this lifetime,
having faith and never being rewarded for it.
He will answer your prayers.
He will take care of you.
He is a loving father.
So I think that is where we're going to end this episode.
I love you all.
And I pray that this episode spoke to someone.
Definitely spoke to me, honestly.
I hope that this was just a reminder to you of how much God loves you and how faithful he is.
Please show somebody today just how cool.
Jesus is. Spread his love. Spread his kindness. Spread his patience. Spread his acceptance.
Spread his forgiveness. Let's all walk a little bit more like Jesus today. And show someone just how cool he is.
