You know, the thing about Taylor McCargg is he's a college football analyst for CBS Sports and a former Rice Owls quarterback. Yeah, we're good. I got my, a new deal with CBS, which is great. In the years past, I've done like kind of a hybrid, some with ESPN, some with CBS. I just did one with the SPN. That's probably the only one I'll do this year. So I'm the rest of the year. I'll do the show for the Big 12. And then I'm doing a lot of stuff with CBS.

I'm doing the games on the weekends. And then some stuff during the week. And yeah, man, joining you guys a couple more times this fall. We love that. When are you getting to work? When's your first game? So I had one of those high school showcases last week, which is my first ever high school game.

It's where Luke Brian's son was a quarterback. And then. Could he spin it? Philip Rivers. Yeah, he's really good. Really? Philip Rivers' son where Philip Rivers coaches, it was those two teams. But there were, one of the teams had a bunch of dudes.

The other one did not as much. But it was like a reminder of how insane Texas high school football is where like D1 guys are D1 guys, right, no matter where they play. But the depth for these backups compared to like a Duncanville were like, it's just dramatic. Yeah. Or like a Cedar Hill or whoever else. like an Anderson high school. And Anderson High School.

Yeah. Where everybody's high cut. Yeah. That's what they're doing. By the way, I was right. High, high cut athlete is a tall sports player with long legs and a high center of gravity. That's so you.

That's what Dylan is judging all the high school kids on Mr. Trojan. The player has long legs compared to their torso. That's you. It's also why I can't put it on mass. And that's why every guest that sits on that couch just. That's my theory. So there's a, for anybody that doesn't, not familiar, there was a fight at some point during fall camp. and they're starting safety that had transferred in from Louisiana Tech and a receiver who I think is out of the hospital now but was in the hospital for a while.

There's a police report. And I forget the exact charge, but it's either you are brandishing a weapon and using a weapon or you beat them so badly that it, you know, is classified as this type of assault. Aggravated assault. Aggravated assault. There we go. So not good.

we just talked about this, and I'm drawing a blank on Caleb. Jacob Fields. Jacob Fields. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I had him last year. We had a lot of tech game with CBS on one of those weeknight games. And he, like the quarterback that transferred in for TCU is very good. Came in from Harvard.

Harvard kid. And everybody wants to talk about him, Jaden Craig. But this dude was probably the better player, arguably. And so it's a big loss for them. The thing that's interesting is like TCU has tried to keep it so hush, hush. And the story broke like a week after it happened. there's a police report. Like this is not,

you're gonna keep the ass forever. So TCU yanked their credentials for the, the Fort Worth Star Telegram and they're like mad at them. Legacy paper, yeah. Guys, like, this is not one of those that you were going to be able to, you know, this is going to come out at some point. Yeah, this isn't high school. Right.

It's like small town like West Texas high school shit. This shit's going to get out. It's kind of wild because, yeah, like we said, they've got a game overseas. Yeah. So it's like, and it's, you know, it's a big game. A lot of people picking them. kind of a dark horse.

Yeah. To at least make it to the Big 12th championship. And I don't know. I don't know. It's weird. It doesn't seem like them. The poll and the credentials thing, that got the journals. Yeah, that got them.

Twitter was fired up yesterday in my little Big 12 bubble. Yeah. But anyway, you don't have to just, we don't have to just talk Big 12. But I did have, I did want to ask about a few things. Everybody wants to talk tech. Can we talk Oki State real quick? Yeah. We had our first show for Inside the 12 yesterday, and they asked, you know, everybody pick your offensive player there or whatever.

I said Mestemaker. Like anybody that does not know who this is, Drew Mestemaker, he's from Austin, played at Vandergriff, did not play on his varsity team in high school. He's the backup. Walks on to North Texas. They have a bowl game. This is two years ago now. Went off. Through for, I don't know, 400 or 500 yards.

Went nuts in this game. Yeah, it was a big story because the, the, the ball game. The headline was like, this kid hasn't played, you know, hadn't started a quarterback like literally ever. Since JV. Yeah. The next year, this was last year, they're the number one offense in the American conference. Eric Morris, head coach, they all go to Oklahoma State.

But the crazy part is like go look at draft projections for next year. He's one of like the top five or six guys from projections. And he's only played, started one year at North Texas. And I think that's going to actually go up. I saw him. He's one of the guys that I saw at the Manning Camp. And like I said, everybody throws it well, but he's a big dude. He's a good player.

And their defense, he's eye cut. Their defense is, I don't think it's going to be great, but they're going to score a ton of points. And they haven't, Oklahoma State, we remember the teams like the Zach Robinson days and Des Bryan. They've had some really good teams. They played in the Big 12 championship a couple years ago. They, it's been a rough couple years. They haven't won a game in league play in two years. A ton of roster turnover.

Yeah. I think they had to bring in like. Over 70. kids. I felt like it was like three years in a row where you're like this has got to be it for Gundy right? And then finally like it felt that way because they were struggling and then you know the portal would open everyone would jump in and they had to replace you know literally almost the entire team. So it's like oh they feel like they're not getting any kind of NIL support whatsoever. Gundy's struggling. Yeah, they were down. I think they have Oregon early this year. I think that'll be a

tough. That's going to be it. You got to think. They won't. And Moore is a matchup nightmare for them. I think they're my preseason number one. Oregon. I know a lot of analysts would agree with me, but they're just loaded, man. They are loaded. Yeah. How about around Waco Way?

The Lagway show. Probably the biggest volatility of any, like you could, the butterfly effect for their season. Like you could have a four-win team, or you could have a 10-11 win team. Like, you know, it's, Their schedule, we will know immediately if they've got a shot at having a good year because they got to play Auburn, but they're playing them in Atlanta. They don't have to play them at Jurdon Hare. If they beat Auburn, then you've probably got a pretty good team.

If they lose, you know, probably back around 500 for Baylor. Yeah, struggling to get a bowl. Yeah, and it's like, yeah, and they were in the Big 12 championship, what, four years ago, five years ago? They were there against Oki State. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, that was that team. And yeah, that was a rando with, I think he mainly had Matt Rule players at that point. Yeah.

And you're thinking, oh, okay, like, wow, no drop off. And then, yeah, they've been kind of, as a guy married into a Baylor family and a T-shirt fan, I've, I've followed them. And it's been, it's been not fun. Yeah. I mean, the last year was supposed to be right out of the gate, like Sawyer Roberts and their quarterback last year, they threw it for a billion yards. Mm-hmm. but couldn't really stop anybody. No, it's weird.

Yeah, he did. He put up some big numbers, millions of yards. No, you know, we don't have to bore people with Baylor. I know Dylan wants to talk Texas. No, we don't have to talk Texas. You want to talk Texas State, don't you? Not a big 12 team, a Pac-12 team, but.

Back to the Big 12. Do we think this Castellanos, I don't know how he says his last name, is transferring to tech. Yeah, he's going to be the backup, though. Okay. Will Hammond is a better player than Castellanos. Okay.

Like, and it was a, the NFL stuff, like these kids that are coming back. Actually, it's kind of still remains to be seen if he's going to be able to play. If he does, he's going to be the backup. He's not going to, he's not a better player than Will Hammond. Now, it's, you know, you're at insecurity because Will Hammond at Tours A. A.C.L. last year. Right. But, uh, okay.

There's a third kid that transferred from Tulsa. I think tech could play him all year. And I still think they probably go undefeated. Yeah. Their defense. They're going to coast. Their defense. is unbelievable.

They're going to coast to the Big 12 championship. And they were last year. Like when they went and lost Oregon and it was ugly, it wasn't the defensive side, right? I mean, it was the offense that was horrendous. But the defense looked like a big time top eight or ten defense in the country. They held their own, no problem. And they're going to be, they might be better this year on defense than they were last year. Oof, man.

Anything you want to say? Looking to the camera, maybe proclamations. Come on. I got no hate for them boys out Lepiquet. They got after both of us. I mean, they got after you a lot worse than me, but they, yeah, I remember that. What did you do? What did you come at you for?

I remember I had this, on the show, I was talking about, you know, the only way that you could beat tech is if they got, uh, took somebody out of the game. Yeah, I was like, you know, the quarterback's injured and I phrased it pretty poorly. And they were like, you want our quarterback to get hurt. You were advocating violence. No, no. Like, it was like the first time I've ever had a fan base, like really get, get after me. Oh, that's right. I forgot that happened.

That was eye opening. That's funny. a small timer analyst like myself that's not the normal. It's good to get that under your belt though. Yeah, you know. You got to get one. You know,

it's like a quarterback that goes out and like they don't really get into it until they get hit hard. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, you know, you're off conference, not me. But, you know, it's like that. So now you can really start doing some analyzing that you've had your little dust up with a cactus,

square toe mafia. Taylor's just out there bounty hunting. Yeah, you kind of all. I got it. Yeah, I got accused of that. I went back and watched the clip. It was like, oh, okay. I was getting eviscerated, man.

There were some good insults in there, too. They've got a couple of go-toes that I don't really like to repeat. I suggested that their star linebacker was wearing a hat backwards, and they called me everything. I don't know. I remember. It was great. There were some good ones for you, too. Some good ones, a lot of uncreative ones, too.

Yeah, a lot of ones like, man, come on, dude. We're not doing that anymore. I mean, if you want to talk Texas, if you want to talk Texas, if you can talk Texas. It's all that's not a big deal. Are you nervous? Yeah. Look, Texas has a very, very good team. I understand that.

I think the defense is going to be a top 10 defense. They got some dudes from the portal. I agree. Must champ is obviously the new defensive coordinator. I have high hopes for the defense. The offense, the left side of the line at guard, left guard is what I'm concerned about. They kind of swung and missed in the portal. They finally got this kid.

Lawrence Seymour, who's out of, where did he come from? Western Kentucky? Western Kentucky. He's projected to be the starter. He's like 6-1. I mean, he had a great season, but I don't know. I don't know to expect there. I mean, that was like a revolving door last year at Lefgard.

And it caused a lot of problems for the offense. The O-line should be improved. And, of course, we got reports. reports that Arch has been inconsistent in camp, which I'm not too concerned about. You know, he played he played well the second half of the season last year. But I mean, I'm nervous, but mostly because of the schedule. Texas is good enough to be a playoff team, but they have they can only afford, I think, two losses. And they, of course, they've got to Ohio State coming week two.

Then you got to go to, you got to go to A&M, you got to go to LSU, you got to go to Tennessee. You got OU neutral site game. So it's a tough schedule. hopes are high, but I'm not letting get action control. I think I agree with all that. I think it's two losses depending on, you know, it really would depend on who the third loss is and how it looks. Like if you lose close to Ohio State,

OU, and at LSU, you know, that's different than losing on the road at Florida last year. Yeah. Right. So I do think at some point, like one of these SEC teams will get in with three losses. It hasn't happened yet, but it will happen at some point. point. The thing that I'm, you know, if I'm a Texas fan against Ohio State right out of the gate, I just want to see can we run the football. And I know that sounds super elementary. They could, which they could not do last year. There were way too many third and longs.

And I don't care who the quarterback is or what program. Like they have got to, Relique Brown coming in from Arizona State is a really good player. Yeah. And I know there's another one that now I'm drawn. Hollywood Smothers. Hollywood Smothers. NC State. They will be able to run the football. at a much better clip than they did a year ago. And it will actually help Arch running the football as well. So I'm not worried about Texas. I think they're a one or two lost team. I think they're in the playoff again.

And I think if they can get in the playoff, they can beat anybody. Their biggest challenges, like you said, can you get through and make sure you're not, you know, you've got these peaks and values of their schedule where they have, you know, really tough. The month of November is brutal. It's just, it's an unrelenting schedule.

I mean, you can't, you can't take a game off. You can't. You got to bring it. I would tell anybody, like the camp reports, throw those in the trash. Like, for quarterbacks especially, there's going to be days where they look horrible. And a lot of times it just, it does not matter. Like, there are days, because you're also working on stuff. You're in different situations where you might throw three picks in a scrimmage or in a certain, you know, part of team in camp during one of the practices.

And beat reporters are there and they're like, man, this is not great. It's not that big a deal. It's never as good or never as bad as the reports lead you to believe coming out of camp. I saw David Pollock do the, did you see the tweet that was going around, not from him, from somebody else? It was like the three red flags for Texas right now. It was like you mentioned, the camp reports about Arch. Tianti Smith getting booted from the team. And then the kid's dad that you mentioned.

The true freshman defensive defense dad who's crying about his kid getting passed over on the depth chart. I got served, David Pollock, you know, former game day, he's an analyst as well. I saw it. It was him. And I was like, oh, this, so everybody's kind of running with this. Yeah. Like everyone. It's just, you know, the season hasn't started yet.

You got to talk about something. I think they're making much more out of that than there actually is there. I mean, parents are going to get upset. I mean, you got how many kids on a team and, you know, not every kid's going to get playing time. This kid was like a three-star cornerback. Like, he shouldn't be expected to, like, move up the depth chart. But then they brought in that kid, John Meredith, who reclassified to 2026, he was a number two overall player. Apparently he's

past this kid on the depth chart and the dad was like not happy about it. But because he's been there for like three weeks. That's okay. Texas is loaded at every position. Do Cam Coleman. Cam Coleman's in blue. I can't wait to watch that. He's like Calvin Johnson.

Is it possible to have like your week one game be a trap game if you're Texas? Because that's what I've seen a lot of buzz that is like a sneaky trap game for them. No. You don't think it's like a sneaky trap game? No. Wow. And I love that camera right there. Talk to G.J. To G.J. Coach Bayliff. I love you guys. No. The number of things that would have to go wrong, in my opinion, for Texas State to

win that game, we would be talking about like Armageddon for Texas. I look at it differently. I look at it as a number of things that would have to go right for Texas State. For the Bobcats. Yeah, man. Okay, just said, just Brad Jackson, you know, got that whole, basically that whole offense back, cleaned up the offensive line a little bit. They should both sparks. Much better on defense than last year. T State? Yes. Defense was tough.

The JMU game. That was a track. Yeah. GMU was great. They were great, but they were a playoff team the season before. It looked like they were playing. No, last year. I'm sorry, it was last year.

It looked like they were playing Oregon. It was cool. They will have no problem in this new look, Pact 12. I don't think they're going to beat Texas. I'm not saying I think so. this college football thing is turning into a real circus huh all these guys coming back and whatnot things of that nature yes i want to provoke some thought that's been a big one um you call it a circus online it is a circus yeah it stinks for the the good news is and i've had to walk back some of my classic me, walk back some of my takes on this. It is a short-term problem. This will not happen every year. It's because this class,

the NCAA had this five-for-five ruling after these players declared for the NFL draft. So guys who had moved on, like, oh, wait. A lot of them would have transferred and stayed, you know, the guys that are, okay, six, seventh round or worst draft grades, a lot of times, most of the time, it's more beneficial for them.

and make more money if you go transfer to a P4 school and your starter and get another year film and see if you can improve your draft stock. But it is a circus. I mean, the whole thing, the problem is there's just, there's no real rules. Like, anytime the NCAA says anything, the question everybody else asks is like, what if you just didn't listen to them? What if you just said no? And I think that's the problem.

Like, there's not really your kind of enforcement mechanisms. Yeah, and you're having to go to, you know, circuit judges. in Louisiana to be like, can these guys come back and play pretty please? Or I'm shopping. So I don't know. It is a mess. It's a circus. It's also like the offseason for college football just sucks because every year from whatever,

February through middle of August, there's conference reallignment, there's the portal, there's coaches moving around, and there's a lot of it with NIL too that like, you just don't feel like there's anybody in charge. You're like, this is exhausting. You don't know really what to believe, what to trust, and I think fans get worn out by that. Absolutely. It's been pretty hard to follow, even for people who kind of get paid to follow it. We're like, oh, we should talk about this.

Let's go look it up. Like, oh, man, you kind of have to be like a legal scholar to understand a lot of this. So the left guard who, Cole Hudson is his name, who was at Texas and he did camp for, I think the Cowboys and the Browns. he got so he returned to Texas because of some loophole he's actually allowed to stay and that's the same thing like he didn't sign or something I work in the sport and I don't understand

there are some players that can and there's some players that can I don't get it yet. I'm going to get killed if this is wrong but I believe there was a class action suit where they are protected by that judge in Louisiana and it wasn't players that were in Louisiana they were all over the place if they weren't in that suit There were others that they're not able to. There are some that got cut out of mini camp back in the spring and elected to go back,

and they're allowed to. I don't. It's really, I'm not the expert on this, clearly. The only thing I do know that I'm certain of, this will not be a problem moving forward. It's just relative to this, because these guys are the class of 2022 that they're coming back to get their fifth year, basically. You mentioned the five for five. Did you ever take down all five roast beef sandwiches? Arby's because they used to do the five for five they don't do it anymore.

I did not. I used to do it often actually. Like power ranking fast food, I feel like Arby's would actually be higher for me than a lot of people. I'm with you. But like, don't think Cam Coleman's going for 200 against Ohio State. Texas has played Ohio State each of the last two years. And obviously they didn't win either game. However, Jeremiah Smith has done literally nothing against Texas. I don't. And of course, that'll get clipped and he's going to go for 200 days.

Ohio State. But that would be a great problem for me. Yeah, it's not, the defenses are both phenomenal in that game. And the quarterbacks are also really good in that game. It's just, it's going to be a, it should be an unbelievable football game. Like, your, you're spreading that game is going to be Texas minus one. Yeah. Texas minus two and a half, something like that.

And it's probably about right. I mean, that's what it is right now. I mean, it's minus two or something like that. I think it's Texas minus two. Yeah. I'm not saying this is going to put someone on the hot seat, but if Sark loses that game, I feel like, I feel like the people, the people of Austin are going to start to get a little bit like, when are we going to do this?

I think if they miss the playoffs again and you go back to back seasons with this roster, definitely. That's where, you guys, you guys, you guys, The schedule is so tough, and there are so many opportunities. Like, if they beat OU again and win on the road at LSU and win on the road at A&M, like the totality of the season, I think Texas fans would be like, all right, we're good. But, like, if, yeah, if they lose by two scores at home and turn around and lose to OU, then, yeah, all of a sudden, it's like, this is not feeling great.

Yeah, Sark has a Ryan Day and a Kirby Smart problem. Those are the teams. I think against every opponent, minus those two teams the last, I don't know, like three years, the record is like incredible, but he has trouble with Georgia. And also like those are the two of the best teams. Right, right. You're right. I think they, yeah, I still think,

floor for me for Texas is 10 and 2. I don't think they lose three games. I think A&M is not going to be very good this year, relative to last year. I think they will take a step backwards. I think you win there. you should beat Oklahoma. Yeah. Good defense.

But it's Texas OU. Like, who knows? But you should beat them. You should beat LSU on the road. Like, they will be, I think they will be favored at LSU, which is crazy, but I think it will be favored. I don't know. So, you know. I heard something crazy in this office the other day.

I'm not going to put anybody on blast. Nobody in this room. Someone suggested they moved Texas OU to down Arlington way. Oh, that, that's, That's been suggested for years. And I said, dude, there's no fucking way. I said, dude, you don't know what you're saying. My, like.

If you say that you haven't been to that game. My, like, hottest. I don't even know. It's a hot take. I think a lot of people agree. I would totally do away with the neutral sites. Until you get into the playoffs and there's a, you know, after the first round. You'd rather be a home and home.

But like, and it's a small example, but like, Baylor going to Auburn. That should be played at Jurden Hare. Why is that not? I can never get, like, there's always different answers. They always do on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

Okay. And they go have that at a neutral site. And they play them in Jerry World or in Atlanta or in Miami or wherever. Like, I want those on campus. Like, don't play that. I totally agree with that. A college football game played in an NFL stadium, it takes so much of the, like, feel out of the game.

Yeah. It makes it, it just, I hate it. But no, Texas OU is different because it's, I mean, the Cotton Bowl is very far from an NFL environment, you know, you got the state fair and the way they do, you know, half the stadium is, you know, crimson, half of its burn orange is so much fun. Yeah, I've actually, I've never been the game.

It's incredible. You know, one day, hopefully. But I'm always friggin working. It's hot from time to time. Yeah, that's my worry this year. It's going to be a scorcher. Scorcher. Is it ever rained?

He's got a C-D-S. Yeah, same thing as Taylor. He has no more free weekends for the family. We got Murray State. Very State. Got to see, man. The racers. Yeah.

A lot of people talking. Yeah, it's going to be a football weekend. Randall. Going out to a swimming hole on Saturday. That's about all I know for sure. Might go back to that pirate bar. We were supposed to do last weekend, but we never did. This is the last weekend.

It's going to be up. might go and get all dressed up for it. So we'll see. But that's about it. Just hanging around, doing stuff around the place. Maybe you go to... I'm at all ranchos. I don't know.

Alyssa and I do a little date night. We're going to, we're basically doing our normal Labor Day trip up to Duncanville this weekend because of some scheduling conflicts,

mainly on my end, actually all on my end, because next week I'm quite busy. But yeah, so we're going to be up there. We're going to hit Los Palmas. That's the place that we went as a group before the Dallas meetup on that Friday last, last spring. It's a great spot. Very good. What I need to, Alyssa was like, what did y'all have that you really liked? And I was like everything was really good. I need to get the standouts. I know the queso. I said it was the best queso in the world.
