Starting point is 00:00:04 Ranchos and metal ranchos Hey, all right, we're back. Circling Back podcast, it's Tuesday morning. My name is Dave. It feels a cool one here. I love cool. Producer to show today, Randall Trumbacky. Hi, Dave.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Is that a new t-shirt? It's a new t-shirt from a little easy. You guys should know it from the virus. I'm a viral frozen reviews, but yeah, this is the new little easy t-shirt. I like it because he's sitting at the bar and he's looking at you. When you look at the back of my shirt is the back of him at the bar. Wow. So it's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:00:56 Imagine now watching this live on YouTube or after the fact on YouTube or Spotify. You totally miss out on that. Yeah, you missing out of my cool shirt. People are going to wonder if it's a conflict that you got a t-shirt from there. also did two frozen reviews from there two frozen reviews hey i got news for you i have two t-shirts from there god bless i got the i got this second one because uh the first one has been commandeered by the girlfriend so i need to get my own classic girlfriend stuff yeah you know how they were always just commandeering yeah did she take your hat and like put it on like wear it the rest of the party too
Starting point is 00:01:34 yeah it's a good sign man those frozen reviews made me want to go crack hog maybe like just get a frozen hog you love cracking hog oh frets out there cooking we're not getting the beverage market shut off uh two special guests today please dillon is in chicago um so he had to call in the big dogs barrett dudley of occ how's it gone barred dudley of retail therapy also that one yeah yeah bear dudley formerly of club cool yes and just barrett dudley of friendship. Yeah. That's how we know you. That's the big one. What's up? Happy to be here. I got a question for Randy on the shirts over there, though. I just didn't want to, I didn't want to jump in until I'd been introduced. Were the, were the shirts gifted? Or did you? No, no, I bought them. You can buy
Starting point is 00:02:28 him there. Okay. Okay. You sure? So you're, you didn't just like leap into levels of food and beverage influencing where they're like, oh shit, it's, it's Randy, Randall Trumbachy of the viral frozen rating frozen's content we better we better swag this dude up no no i just i just got it because i like the restaurant and i like the little little gator look at him it's got sunglasses on okay so i'm glad you asked that question because i was wondering if like maybe there was something going on randy's no stranger to a side deal you got those you got some side hustle i wish i did no i just promote stuff i would love a side deal yeah well once you Once you get a couple few of those under your belt, Randy, you can't just be buying the t-shirts.
Starting point is 00:03:13 That's true. I mean. You got to wait for them to be like, please, sir, sir. Rep us. No, you're worth, King. Let us give you this t-shirt, yeah. You're right. You're right.
Starting point is 00:03:25 I won't. I just like a little easy. Have you been? No, no, no, no. It is good. I do recommend it. The food is fantastic. Do they take reservations?
Starting point is 00:03:36 I think so. Yeah. Is it a QR code on the menu? They have both. They have a paper menu and a QR code. Wow. I got to, I don't know about you, David Ruff, but I got to have a reservation to get all the way over to the east side, you know. Yeah, I'm kind of in that boat as well. It's weirdly not that far, but it weirdly feels like it's half a day.
Starting point is 00:03:59 Yeah. It feels like you're devoting like a quarter of your day to get over there, even though it's like at worst, like 25 minutes. Yeah. Ladies gentlemen, Will to Freeze in the building. It's good to be here. Do you guys plan this? We did not. No, no.
Starting point is 00:04:14 We've, uh, Will and I have just been on, you know, on the same wavelength the last several weeks. We keep showing up to, to retail therapy recordings dressed almost the same. And today, today we're both, we're both GPSing and, and tie-dying. It's just, it's kismet, man. You know, it's just two, it's just two guys that are, that are tapped in. Yeah. You guys are locked.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Yeah. Yeah. When you can ride the same way with your home. me without even trying. That's when you know it's clicking. I used to have this t-shirt as a long-sleeve t-shirt. It said like it had a guy on like a wind, wind surfing.
Starting point is 00:04:48 And it said, ride the wave. And I've always thought about it. And it's just kind of how I've approached life ever since then. People are clamoring for a new run of those. I'm clamoring. Mine did not last. Mine lasted about 10 years.
Starting point is 00:05:00 A lot of armpit holes being reported on the old ones. It's okay. They're 13 years old. That's what, yeah. What do you do? I have shirts that I've owned for a year that already have holes in. them. Yeah. What are you going to do? Yeah. Can I say something? Please. I'm a fan actually of QR code
Starting point is 00:05:15 menus at bars. If I can order a beer to my picnic table directly from my phone and I don't have to move, that is the one scenario where I actually think that QR code menus have really done a good job. Golden Acres down the street. Yeah. It's nice not to have to go up to that bar as well. You're not managing other people's tabs. You're not having to run and, you know, bring five beers back to the table. because everyone sees you getting up. Like, it's just kind of nice just to have them drop the beer off. I agree with you.
Starting point is 00:05:44 Yeah. And with that app, I think it's a Tivore app. Whatever, if a place has that and you don't have to actually deal with like the waiter and you're just like,
Starting point is 00:05:52 oh, I want my thing right now. With the what app, Brandon? I think it's like T-A-V-O-U-R-T-V-O-U-R. Oh, okay, okay. I thought you, I thought he,
Starting point is 00:05:59 I thought he was saying the word devour. No, no, no. Devor. I think it's T-V-O-R. Viola. Micah. You know what?
Starting point is 00:06:11 It really exposes people who are just don't have a full charge on their phone. I feel like a lot of people who grab about the QR code thing, it's like people pull up to the function with about 40%. It's like, yo, man, you got to charge that thing. Yeah. Get yourself one of them battery packs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Juice packs. I got the oldest phone in here, I bet. What's your battery life like these days, David? Not as bad as previous phones that I've held on. to way too long. When I first moved to Austin, my phone had such bad battery life that I could have it fully charged when I left the house. And then at midnight, when I needed to go home, it would be at like 2% battery. Yeah. And it was always a very stressful thing. Like, I need to leave before this happened. Yeah. Haven't been out past midnight a long time myself. BGP.
Starting point is 00:07:04 Dave, you know, you're talking about getting into the drink market. I hear that. Well, I got, I got big news. There's a void in the market, a vacuum opening them up, opening up, if you will, because Junshine is closing. They're shuddering. They're shutting down. I know you're a big fan. June shine. June shine. Tell me about it.
Starting point is 00:07:24 Yeah. That's the hard kombucha day. You brought the hard kombucha one time to my in-laws pool. Man, they really thought the hard kombucha was going to hit in a different way. Well, that was like the new thing. June shine, gone. So you're saying there's. you're saying there's an opening
Starting point is 00:07:42 I'm saying that's your opening yeah that's the window right there I think people it's just you're looking to get the if you're doing the hard kombucha thing you're like trying to get the people into wellness into their gut their gut bacteria
Starting point is 00:07:53 but also people who like to get a little effed up and so it's just hard to find those things and make them coexist yeah trying to find a balance like atmosphere yes was that that did slug
Starting point is 00:08:08 right that shot out Minnesota yeah he did Yeah. Yeah. Randy, do we drop the Patreon yet? No, I'll be dropping this afternoon. We did cold calls yesterday. How to go for you. I thought it was, we always say this, it was the funniest cold Carl we ever had. Like, I was laughing my ass off the whole time. I think Dave and I were having a lot more fun than Dylan was. No, Dylan laughed.
Starting point is 00:08:32 Dylan. Was he in vacation mode? There was a certain word that Dave and I really enjoy that Dylan doesn't as much. Well, I'll give you without, without spoiling cold calls. it was, we had a guy who went to a cockfighting ranch and got to see like the roosters as they were training and sparring. I don't know how much of it he was making up. It didn't sound like much. And then there was also the next young lady who didn't even like,
Starting point is 00:09:00 her form was like, oh, I got into a college football game and I found like an all-access pass. And I was like, all right, we'll call. And then like she led with, yeah, I have a bearded little. And we feed it cockroaches that get delivered. So we spent like way too much time on that. Just had a lot of questions for the bearded lizard owner. And then we had the guy, the sauna guy, it was just a fun story about it.
Starting point is 00:09:28 That one just let, I don't even want to try to explain it. It was just a very, very fun cold call. Those will be out this afternoon. Do you have to buy cockroaches to feed? Yeah, because like this thing apparently eats like a ton of. eats like a ton. That sounds terrible. 40 a day. That's what I said, she said. I didn't like buying grasshoppers for my chameleons. Buying cockroaches and bringing those into my domicile simply isn't happening. Yeah. Like I try to keep them outside. Like it's a, it's a problem. If I see one cockroach
Starting point is 00:09:56 a month in my home, it's like, like Alyssa's like, like, call the pest company, call them now. They need to get here like tomorrow. I'm like, uh, we do like quarterly service. Like, and that's like only, we've only seen like two this year. Are you sure we need to like go out? out of her way and she's like, yeah. All right. What's the first five seconds after seeing a cockroach look like in your life? When I see a cockroach, it's on sight. Dude, I like how it, there's the shot of adrenaline that goes to the body.
Starting point is 00:10:23 It still hits and you're just like, all right. It's like it's the, it's the GTA or whatever the meme is, you know, here we go again, that guy. It's that. And it's usually Alyssa leaving. It's always Alyssa leaving the room. And it's me going in there and like, like, pink, you know, trying to figure out, What's the least mess I can leave?
Starting point is 00:10:42 I'll go get like the cleaning stuff because I'm going to have to bleach the area. It's a whole thing. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Mine has changed significantly. I'm very much a bug guy. So I used to be when I was single, it would just be like, oh, cockroach. All right, let me figure out how to, you know, put this in a jar and throw it outside.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Very calm. Now it's if I see one and she hasn't seen one yet. It's like, I need to get rid of this right away before. Yeah. Before she sees it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not killing it with the shoe I'm wearing. If I'm wearing a shoe, I'm not using that shoe.
Starting point is 00:11:13 I try to find something that I don't wear or like find a way to take care of it. I'm never using a shoe. Yeah, no sand. I don't have enough access to shoes in the situations where I need it. So I'm grabbing anything. I might go pull out my flofers. Yeah. And use those.
Starting point is 00:11:28 Those have so much give and comfort though that it might just pat around. Well, you can just rinse them off too. Yeah. T-man knows. I mean, this is where like people in the. 90s probably just grabbed a magazine off their giant stack of magazines in the middle of their coffee people mag yeah we got people magazines like that's what i'm like you pulled that bitch over it's a weapon i'm still looking for like you know like the the the the sofa envelope that they won't stop sending me
Starting point is 00:11:52 a dozen of every week right and then i'm using that to smash from grand x oh god we had a sofa i have a retirement account with grandex that has like oh no i know i didn't 800 dollars in it in the amount of communication that they send me regarding it i'm like yeah you guys have made it really hard for me to transfer this anywhere, so please stop talking to me about it. Yeah, you got to roll that thing over, man. You got to roll it over. I'm trying to roll over, dude. Yeah, dude, we'll talk. I'm trying to, I'm trying to Beethoven in this situation. I got mutual funds. I don't know. I'm really exposed myself. Yeah, you're dangerously close to publicly talking about finances, Dave. Yeah, hey, I was joking. That's a character. You know, I would never, ever talk about this publicly. Um, yeah, check out
Starting point is 00:12:29 the Patreon. Listener voice-bless will drop Friday, as they always do, as will our substack, wash.substack.com. Um, but yeah, listener, or excuse me, cold calls. We recorded it yesterday. It will drop today. It's Randy's favorite of all time. And that's, my, I thought it was great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:45 I, my face was hurting from how much I was laughing. Really? Yeah. Damn. Sounds like it was a movie. Oh. I got a question for you, Dave. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Uh, I haven't, I haven't gotten to, uh, to, to, to avidly listen to any circling back episodes and say the last three, four weeks. Hmm. Okay. But it seems like you, okay, it seems like you've got a bit that is, uh, absolutely dominating the,
Starting point is 00:13:12 the, the subreddit, the circling back subreddit. Can you, oh, can you give me like a, like a quick explainer on, on what's,
Starting point is 00:13:19 what's happening there with. Okay. I mean, I think I get the gist. Your wife or your significant other, your spouse, your husband even, you know,
Starting point is 00:13:26 I don't think it's, I don't think pulling a Dave is exclusive to the, to the, uh, to the, uh, certainly not. Uh,
Starting point is 00:13:31 you're, so your partner, your, goes out of, and you take the opportunity. It goes out for the night. Basically leaves you, goes out and does something fun. To cook a steak and get housed on wine.
Starting point is 00:13:43 I say, oh, you're, okay, you're going to go play mage, as you know, a little bit of its resent, you know, built up, a little bit, like, resenting the fact that she has, like, a standing social thing. Yeah, yeah, okay, okay. With the girls and they seem to go have a lot of fun. Cool. You know, God forbid I play golf. No, I'm kidding.
Starting point is 00:14:02 So I'm like, all right, cool. So I'm like, all right, well, I'll make spaghetti for the boys or whatever. And then I'll just, you know, I'll just cook because I don't want to, I don't want to doordash something. Yeah, yeah. I like to spend a little time. So I will typically hit H.E.B. I'll go grab a steak. Typically a ribby, sometimes a filet, sweet potato, which I'm in on, traditional baked potato.
Starting point is 00:14:28 I am in on, always have been. Whoa, whoa, whoa, you were backing on it. That implies that you were once out on it. Whatever. And a green. And I'll cook it. And usually because I'm cooking for myself and I don't have to worry about two steaks, possibly cooked at different temperatures, have to pull them at different times.
Starting point is 00:14:45 It usually turns out a little bit better than it would otherwise when I was cooking for two. Because you got full attention on just the one steak. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And maybe there's a little bit of motivation in there, too. Well, you're also freed up, you know? When you're just cooking for yourself, you have the freedom to make decisions that you otherwise, might not make for fear of, you know, bad feedback. Bad feedback.
Starting point is 00:15:07 Maybe I want to try a different rub. Maybe I want to put less on there. Maybe I just want to do salt and pepper the way God intended. Yeah. And also, like, I'm not up against it. I don't have to worry about like, you know, Alyssa, she wants dinner before six or something. It's like, oh, yeah, I can pull the steak and let it sit for 10 minutes like it should.
Starting point is 00:15:28 All that. This isn't throwing shade at my wife by any means. But I started doing this and talked about it. And then some people, it's really ramped off the last couple months. Yeah. And to the point to where people are going real hard. People were going hard. People were making like homemade chimichir.
Starting point is 00:15:45 Yeah, I was about to call you Paul Wall because you got the internet going nuts. Thank you. It's just, I'm like, wow. Okay. And then it's almost like I feel like I felt the need. I kind of have to address it because I feel like I'm building up. I don't want to get anybody in trouble. you're a wedge, though.
Starting point is 00:16:02 I kind of feel like you're your own general wedge. I feel like I'm creating a rift or a wedge in certain relationships potentially. And I just wanted to get out ahead of it. And this ladies, you can do this too. Your man's is going out to, he's going out with Bryce and James and the boys. You know what? How about you cook some Putin-esque? Whatever.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Do something. Make some ravioli. It doesn't have to be Italian. food. It could be anything, really, just a steak. Could it be a ribby? Could be a ribby. Although, Alyssa's a, she's a filet gal, which I respect. I don't know what I am anymore. You don't do a ton of red meat. I just, which is admirable. I've been a fan of the general trend socially of ordering a steak sliced and bringing it for the table. We've been doing that at home. When Alyssa and I do steak, we're slicing it up. Yeah, it's, but I love. But I love,
Starting point is 00:17:02 I like not having the pressure of ordering my own steak and just eating a giant piece of meat before possibly going to a second location at a restaurant. I think at this point, if I'm with a group, I'm okay with getting a big steak and going hard on sides and stuff. I like that a lot and you don't feel like if you get, let's say you get a 12 ounce filet or something or like a bigger rib eye, you will feel the pressure to finish it because. Yeah. Ods are if you are going to, if you're going to a second location, you're not taking it with you.
Starting point is 00:17:30 And you also don't want to be the guy who wasted meat, you know, an animal died for this. So you want to finish it. But, you know, we've been doing lately. If there's like leftover steak, we've been taking it with us, thinly slicing it the next day and putting some flaky salt on top of it with some olive oil for a little appetizer the next night. It's been a nice little appetizer, got to say. Yeah. That's, I like that a lot.
Starting point is 00:17:55 Yeah. So they're calling it the Dave, pulling a Dave. I wish there was a better name for it that didn't involve my name. Like, I do love, you know, it is a nice ego boost, but like to see like good food associated with my name. But like there should be a better name for it. One that maybe catches on. I like Dave maxing.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Okay. Thank you. Continue to Dave Max. I've dived before. I've done it with steak. I've done it with nice piece of fish. I don't want to mess up like a $23 piece of fish times two. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:26 That's going to be the type of thing I just do once. My fish game is weak. Like, I'm also cooking it for all my boys out there, you know? Yeah. I want them to see that I'm just because I'm at home doesn't mean that I'm chained down. It kind of feels like you're in the arena. Yeah. Doesn't it?
Starting point is 00:18:39 Yeah. It's like you got the whole, like all your boys on your back. Like you're, you're doing it's for everybody. All the dudes at home, you know, and you're like, you know what? They would kill to be in this position right now. You know, a dad move I've been pulling lately around the grill? What? I've been like looking up how long I need to do something for at what temperature.
Starting point is 00:18:58 And then I've been trying to find a song that I can either time it perfectly with. So I'd flip halfway through. Okay. Or if it's a shorter song, then maybe I'll just ride that out, flip, find another one similar length. Yeah. I know you and I share a common interest in late 80s, 90s punk, where you could like put on a Green Day album and each song is like two minutes long. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:24 So you could really get creative there. You can get wild with it. Yeah. sometimes you can toss on like a 10-minute dead and co song and you can have everything grilled five and five right there is there it is sometimes you can do it yeah you like know exactly when like when the solo or like hits you're just like well time to flip i like that a lot you have like one song like oh that's my rib-eye song oh that's oh okay see this is good yeah that's actually good you need what's the ideal rib-eye song i don't know that's tough because like you know depending on how you're cooking it uh if you're doing it in the cast iron
Starting point is 00:19:58 skillet like I am indoors uh if I'm doing like the hot seer uh you know maybe two three minutes aside see we don't have the ventilation for that we don't either i'm operating differently has to open the windows it's not it's not a good thing and it bothers my son he hates the smell i set off the fire alarm at a hotel recently at about 1030 at night doing what it wasn't like a hotel hotel but it was some connected things okay and uh we had a fireplace and And what I didn't realize is that our two-way fireplace was putting a bunch of smoke into the room that we were not in. Okay. And about 10.30, after being really proud of my fire, I realized what I had done.
Starting point is 00:20:39 And I started trying to wave it out the windows. And when I started waving it out the windows, it rose and caught some fire alarm. Did you ever have a friend or hear of a friend who was in like a hotel room, like probably a total dummy, like 22 years old? And he had a shirt and he hung it on top of. of the sprinkler thing in hotel. And now they specifically have like the little sign that says, do not. This will set off the entire thing.
Starting point is 00:21:07 Yeah. I've heard of that happening. Oh, dumb enough, when we were in high school, we were like at a, it was called Business Professionals of America. It was a competition about how business we could be.
Starting point is 00:21:20 One of the guys put a hangar on there because he thought it was funny that it said not to. And he got fucking chewed out. It didn't set it off, but I almost did. It's like, why, why, why would you do something that clearly says not to do it? It's fun to do bad things. I know a couple of people like that in my life.
Starting point is 00:21:38 How did he get caught? Because they were just doing room inspections like the chaperones were and then saw it and went like, what, like, what, why would you do this? It's like, dude, taking it off of that thing, it's like, uh, Mel Gibson and lethal weapon, like, you know, clipping the wires of the bomb, not sure which ones are clipped. Because you're taking that thing off like, okay, hasn't set it off yet. and you're trying to not. Yeah, it's like we're in the Hurt Locker.
Starting point is 00:22:02 It's just like that. Shout to the troops. Shout to Warby Parker. Love Warby Parker. Dylan's probably rocking those transitional lenses right now. I've got the sunglasses. How did I try them on? I could have gone to the store to try on my Warby's.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Instead, I did it virtually. It's the best virtual try-on I've ever used. Randy, you're a store guy. You went to the store. I did. I've got over 300 locations. Great customer service. Great customer service.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Look, why did buying glasses always feel so complicated and overpriced? I'm just trying to buy glasses and not feel like I need a spreadsheet to understand what's going on. You know, I don't rock with spreadsheets. That's something that's eluded me over the years. That's why I love Warby Parker. Again, I've got the bremers. Dylan's got the same frames with his, again, are transitional lenses. I keep pointing that, Barrett.
Starting point is 00:22:52 That's not Dylan. That's Barrett. I'm Barrett. But you can pretend that's Dylan. And here's the deal with Warby. When it comes to quality for the price, they're the best. It's not even close. You used to have to choose between flimsy outdated styles or spending half your paycheck.
Starting point is 00:23:05 Warby changed the game. Their prescription glasses start at $95 so you can actually get quality and stylish frames at an affordable price. Maybe the best part. For every pair they sell, they also give a pair to someone in need. So check that out. Right now, buy one pair of glasses and get 20% off any additional pairs at Warbyparker.com slash steam. That's 20% off any additional. pairs when you purchase one pair at W-A-R-B-Y-Parker.com slash steam.
Starting point is 00:23:36 It's time for a game that we play all the time on this show. It's actually a game that I didn't know what it was until Will sent it to me. It's called Sniff Puff. Do you ever play Sniff Puff? I can't say that I have. Will, explain to the folks at home about Sniff Puff. Who I believe is a backer sent me a clip from a podcast. podcasts that seem to cover British soccer.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Okay. Or football, as they call it over there. Lad Football Bruv. And they did a game called sniff or puff, where they started going through a bunch of different players and saying whether they'd rather sniff with them or puff with them. Putting two and two together, I think they're talking about drugs. It feels very drug coded. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:26 By the way, you've seen these... We could do Sip Puff Snort. Hmm, I sure have. Sniff Puff Snort? I would assume... Bear and I are actually wearing our tie-dye in defiance of the THC band in Texas. Dude, I wish I got the memo. I would have, I've got something tied-eye, surely, or I could have had my son make one at school for me.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Yeah. Wait, hold on. So what's the difference between sniff and snort? I think the sniff is the smith. Yeah. I was saying Sip Puff. Snort. Let's do Sip-Smith, poth.
Starting point is 00:24:54 Wait, yeah. We could do that. There's really no, you can, I mean, look, it's our show. We can do whatever we want. Sip puff snort. Sitpuff snort. Is that what we're saying? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:05 We're going to find out. We can just do whatever we want. I don't know. I found three names that are extremely heavy in the geist right now. Okay. I was feeling zesty when I woke up today. We've got Jonah Hill, Mario Lopez, Hunter Biden. So let's start with Jonah Hill.
Starting point is 00:25:24 Have you seen why he's in the news? I have. Yeah. Yeah. And to be clear, like, this is all for fun. We don't want any smoke. I don't, so to speak. I don't get on Twitter too regularly. I don't believe you. But when I got on it the other day, boy, it sure wanted me to know about this, this Jonah Hill jiu jihitsu thing. Dude, my for you, I would, sometimes I'm, like, feeling dangerous and I pop over to the four you just to see like, uh-oh. I can't get mine off of the four-you. It just all, it constantly gives me for you. I have to switch to following every single time. To tie it to a show that's popular, it's like ancient Valeria to me when I go to 4U. It's like I don't know what's going to be over there. Yeah. It could be like unicorns.
Starting point is 00:26:03 There could be like volcanoes, destruction. I live on that 4U page. It's wild. It's trash. It's like so wild. It's I hate it, dude. It's on that 4U page. It's a lot of Burnerverse. It's just terrible. But everything was a quote tweet and none of it was positive for Jonah Hill. there wasn't anybody like yeah you guys actually you know he's been training since 2018 you know actually you know what he's trying to say is it was nobody it was just like well i'm gonna it's the same take just put differently by a hundreds and hundreds of accounts so jonah hill sip snort puff i can go first okay yeah please do i'm puffing with him and here's why he just
Starting point is 00:26:54 seems like a puffer. Here's the thing. Okay, he seems like he's in the same crew as like Seth Rogan and formerly James Franco before he creeped on a bunch of girls in gross ways. Right. And I feel like Jonah Hill would want to buy stuff from Seth Rogan's company house plant that makes a bunch of like heady home products. Right. I've seen this. He was supposed to star as Jerry Garcia in Martin Scorsese's Grateful Dead movie that, definitely isn't getting made at this point. And I'd also prefer that Jonah Hill not be that guy at this point. Certainly not now.
Starting point is 00:27:32 But I just think like he just seems like maybe he needs a puff, dude. Maybe he needs to commit a Texas felony real quick and just like chill out and not try to fight people at panel discussions. Yeah, I think puff is where I was going to. That's the right answer. He seems like maybe the most obnoxious person in the entire world to snort with. Yeah, that could go like South real quick. If I'm snorting with him, I'm going to want to do a bunch of bits from Superbad.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Yeah. Like that's how, that's where it devolves to. And if he's not going to be open to doing that. You might want to do that puffing with him too, though. No, I'm just going to be like, can we watch Super. Please let us watch Superbad right now, dude. Can we please watch it? Dude, do the laugh from war dogs.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Do the laugh from War dogs. Like, think about when he's snorting in Wolf of Wall Street, right? Like, I just imagine that that's probably pretty true to life. He just can't, he couldn't stop talking. Apparently this movie that he made for Apple TV is just God awful. Not getting released? Is that right? No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:28:31 The one that's like that Apple, that your Apple TV probably has pushed on you a million times at this point. The one with Keanu. Oh, not the one with Kristen Wig? Because he had a movie that's not getting released with Kristen Wig. That's what I was thinking about. It's a comedy about kids that are getting an inheritance and they need to do something in order to get it. Okay. This is called outcome.
Starting point is 00:28:52 Outcome. Outcome is apparently awful. It's got Keanu Reeves. Yeah. Cameron Diaz. And Matt Bonner? Former Spurs Great. Matt Boomer, excuse me.
Starting point is 00:29:03 Not former Spurs Great. Matt Bonner. Yeah. That would be cool. You don't want to drink with him. Look, you don't want to, the answer is puff because, like, anybody who's they got that much aggression from years of being like, yeah, you don't.
Starting point is 00:29:19 We need to take him down a notch. I'm not trying to like, he's the dude who's like, dude, let's go, come on. Let's wrestle real quick. And I know, man, I'm good. Like, that, that era of my life stopped, like, after high school, really. Like, where we, like, go out and, like, wrestle in the yard. I think, like, real MMA guys when they drink, they, they know their limits and they know, they know to honor the sport. Sure. I don't think fake poser MMA guys like Jonah Hill are going to do a good job of, like, not trying to show that their hands are weapons. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:48 He has to tell you how they're registered. He's like, yeah, I had to go down to the. police station register these hands it's a very generous read of professional m m mfiders because i i picture most of them like nate dyes not going to go on a podcast and talk shit about m m m fighters we live in not really not really the exposure i want myself yeah you can't get caught doing that yeah i i i might have misnamed a choke in a viral clip remember randy like five years ago on too much that and like the clip was like our biggest clip ever people are like actually it's not a ninja joke that's actually called blah blah blah. Like, wow, this fucking idiot misnamed the choke. I'm like, I don't know how
Starting point is 00:30:23 man. I'm sorry. You should be. Yeah, they're going to come fight you one day. Mario Lopez, a connoisseur of AI slop, brockslop. Have you seen the... No, no, I'm not sure. I'm not familiar with why Mario Lopez is in the geist. So he took a lot of the heat off of Jonah Hill, who is the main character over the weekend. Yeah. When he went to a Dodger game with his niece, still don't have an answer to your question on Slack yesterday, Ray? I did not ask that. Also, you did not slack it to me. I didn't know.
Starting point is 00:30:55 I, I'm sorry. I thought I thought Barrett might have seen it. It's a clearly AI video of his daughter or his niece, excuse me, housing two glizzies and then wiping the mustard all over her face. It's not like the most sexual thing you've ever seen, but it's also just weird. And it just said, the tweet says, can't bring her anywhere. Can't bring my niece anywhere. And people are like, okay.
Starting point is 00:31:16 I'm scared to ask how old, how old is the daughter? Yeah, Randy wasn't. I'm not joking. I'm joking. See, that's the joke. That's the joke from Slack. The niece, she's, uh, I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:31:26 But it was, you're like, it's her picks up two fully loaded dogs and just stuffs them in her mouth. Is she a kid or is she an adult? You know. It's hard to say. Closer to adult, but probably teenager to early. We don't know. We don't know. He deleted it after just people, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
Starting point is 00:31:44 most often, the most common quote to what I saw was, what do you, what's Mario Lopez doing? Which you don't want that. You don't want to ever see that. If I'm Mario Lopez and I was like trying to post that or somebody posted it for me, I'm just going to be like, all right, I'm just going to look at my team and be like, raise your hand if you were against this, but we're too afraid to say anything. And then I'm firing that person. You ever, you ever throw something out in the group chat and like the worst thing other than like people just straight of ignoring it is somebody hits it with a question mark. And you're like, oh God. Yeah. That's what happened to him, but on X, the Everything app.
Starting point is 00:32:18 And like two millions of people. I'm drinking with Mario. I'm sipping with Mario Lopez. I think that's the move. I don't know if it's because of his heritage, but I just feel like he probably would look really good pouring me a sipper of tequila wearing like dress pants and a tucked in form fitting shirt. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:39 And I think we're probably going to slow sip. Yeah. I mean, he's somebody who is a special. part of my my childhood um dude you're gas and beers with ac slater yeah if i could tell the boys like yeah dude i put back like 10 hogs i crack 10 hogs or i don't know 10 miller lights whatever randy with with with with with with with with with with with with with with with i got no notes i got i got i got nothing out i think that that's that that's the call hunter biden where are we at on you you've teed this up too easily i mean that that's who you're snorting
Starting point is 00:33:13 Well, I believe is a recovering in recovery. Yeah. Yeah. So let's just say you have Hunter at his prime. No, I don't want to say it in like a mean way. Hunter when he was like still doing things of this nature. Yeah. No, I don't even need to go back.
Starting point is 00:33:28 I'm just looking to knock Hunter off the wagon one time for like a night we'll both remember forever. Well, here's the problem. He is addressed online. He wasn't a snorter. He smoked it. He didn't snort at all. He just a crack smoker.
Starting point is 00:33:40 He was a pipe smoker. So I don't know if you really want to snort. him. I don't know if he really knows. No, I still think he knows the best way to snort things versus the other two. Like, we're going to get the best use out of our drugs. I mean, I would always imagine that Hunter Biden probably had a pretty good dealer. You'd think so. You know, you'd think so.
Starting point is 00:33:59 You'd still Hunter Biden. All the access, you know, like he, this, this is a guy that I'm sure, like, has your back on the, the, he's got the little testing things. Yeah. Right? He's got those locked and loaded, ready to go. He knows how to work those quickly. There's no downtime when we're cutting up lines. And with the heater that this guy is on right now,
Starting point is 00:34:18 he's probably got as much access to any place you want to go as you could possibly imagine. Well, he also has probably like some sort of, he knows the security of it probably better than the other two. So if I'm going to do the most, I don't even know if it's the most illegal at this point. He's getting caught with Coke and Austin, the same is getting caught with a weed gummy.
Starting point is 00:34:38 Coke is still a felony. Okay. But anything other than Delta, weed, I believe, is a felony. Okay. So, yeah, I mean, I guess stuff that you was legal a month ago to have is now, could now get you locked up. Can you imagine if you were just like on 6th Street and you had like a gummy in your
Starting point is 00:34:59 Zen container, cops got you and suddenly you're doing two years because you had a, you had a weed gummy. Yeah. That wasn't the right. Should have read the law. Should dispose of all your stuff, dude. Why didn't you do that? Dude, go look in like your dop kit.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Dude, I think Dan Patrick should stick to sports radio. Oh. Only real ones know that. Yeah, dude, my dop kit, I need to go do an assessment. Because I've got like ballmarkers, coins, old allergy pills, golf teas, and then probably an edible. Definitely some early bird, but God knows what else. How does this affect drinks? Like I believe anything there's still drinks you can still get a drink in a tincture it just has to be delta nine
Starting point is 00:35:50 I'm just thinking about like uh what total wine by us they changed a whole wall into tc drinks they did that's why that's where hog comes in to fill the void oh a delta nine alcohol mhm twisted hogs oh we're just workshopping we're having fun did you have to holster this segment till Dylan was gone because he would have said snort for all of them. Yeah. He would have been like, okay. He would have checked out by now. He would have been like just looking at Twitter for something else to talk about.
Starting point is 00:36:21 I can always tell when he's like, all right, well, let's move on. He's like, yeah, yeah, I don't know. Yeah, sure. Oh, you can tell at the, you can tell at a bar when Dylan's tired of what you're talking about. It's like, okay, I should switch the subject. You see Arch lately? Yeah. How we feel about Arch?
Starting point is 00:36:37 This would be a fun game to play with just to go, the entire cast, we'll just go down the list of my new favorite reality show on TV, Nation's Dumbest. Not familiar? No? We'd like to know. I believe it's on the, uh, is it, Will's got it pulled up here. Is it ABC?
Starting point is 00:36:54 Is it ABC broadcasting, Nation's Dumbest? Says here it's streaming for free on Tooby. Okay. All right. It's also on Hulu and Disney Plus. It's on one. Okay. That makes, that makes it.
Starting point is 00:37:03 Too many platforms. Yeah, it's, but it's on broadcast, which is where I've been, been catching it. Okay. And, uh, they got together a bunch of C&D list celebrities. Um, notable names include IceT, Matt Liner, Jojo Siwa, Steveo, former presidential candidate, Andrew Yang, Dr. Drew. Okay. Uh, Carmen Electra is in there. Colaria Baldwin, bunch, bunch of randos.
Starting point is 00:37:27 Oh, dude, you didn't tell me, uh, Huddy was in there. Who? Huddy? I don't know who this kid. He just looks like a Gen Z. Oh, streamer type. I think he's the one, he's like the one guy. I don't know who that is.
Starting point is 00:37:40 Chase Hudson? Is that him? Are you watching this, dude? It looks terrible. There's no way this is good, man. It looks terrible. And the goal is to, here's, the concept is interesting because the goal is to get off the show. The goal is to get off the show so that you are not, you are not crowned the nation's dumbest.
Starting point is 00:38:00 And I, I, look, this happens to me every year. August rolls around. There's no more sports left, except for I did catch a pretty thrilling Mercury, Chicago, WNBA game last night. I've been following my wings. And, but yeah, so I always lock in on, on some terrible reality show that they, that they throw on to fill, to fill the void on the broadcast channels. It's just my, it's like my seven, seven p.m. I'm, I'm getting dinner ready or we're sitting
Starting point is 00:38:28 down to eat. I'm not ready to lock into a show yet. I got to throw something on. And I'm, I, I, this is sober, boomer of you? Well, they don't call me boomer bear it for nothing, Will. Dude, he's chopped. So I get, I get locked in on, on this type of schlock, but, but this game is making me think of several of the names on this is a show Dylan, Dylan would be in on. And I don't mean that as a slight. Do I have any, do we, do we, do we have any nation's dumbest, uh, enjoyers in the chat?
Starting point is 00:38:56 I don't know, ask Will. He's too busy chopping it up in the chat. I can't chat. Why can't do them like that? I can't chat with the homies. He's just, he's just engaging. Come on, dude. He's in the arena.
Starting point is 00:39:09 I'm chatting with the homies. This is interesting. I don't, Jojo, I mean, fresh off her cruise. I'm shocked she rolled right into this. Also, Alex Baldwin, his wife. Hilaria. Yeah, yeah. Who is Spanish?
Starting point is 00:39:25 Wait, wasn't she just on Dancing with the Stars? Who? Hilaria or Jojo? Alex Bar, the wife. I think she was. A Baldwin. Alex Baldwin's wife, Hilaria? Maybe.
Starting point is 00:39:37 She might have been. You know her, ma'am. Just an authentic Spanish woman. One of those things where I'm like, how do you, how do you survive that? How do you survive coming, like, when people are like, you don't, you're faking the accent. She's got the accent on the show. Oh, yeah, she had to. You can't, she had to stick with it.
Starting point is 00:39:55 You can't just stop doing it. You have to fully lean into it, like the way I've fully leaned into factor meals at home. Oh, wow. Man, it's tough out there. I got two, I got two kids. I mean, we got three dads on this show. show right now and Randy's his Addy. Like cooking, man, it's a lot.
Starting point is 00:40:15 Like cooking healthy, what if I told you there's chef-crafted dietitian design ready to eat meals, so you don't have to choose between real food and convenience? That's factor meals right there. With over 175 band ingredients, every factor meal is designed around what supports a healthier lifestyle and nothing that doesn't. Starting point is 00:40:40 They got the add-ons too. Don't sleep on these pumpkin-flavored cheesecake and protein shakes. How about that? Yeah. You like he? Yeah, I like you a lot. Sounds like a nicey. 97% of users agree that factory meals help them live a healthier lifestyle
Starting point is 00:40:54 so you can feel confident that you're doing something good for yourself. I'm a huge fan after my second son was born. Brett says he didn't make this happen on purpose, but we got home from the hospital and there on our doorstep was a big box of factory. Meals. Clutch. And it was huge. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:11 We had two kids at that point. Factor Meals was huge for us then. And it's huge for us now. Let's eat real. Head to FactorMeals.com slash backer 50 off and use code backer 50 off to get 50% off. And one free breakfast item per box for one year while supplies last until October 31st, 2026. Starting point is 00:41:34 Where are you guys at on your Sheridan? Your Taylor Sheridan viewing. Are you guys consuming any of his content? No. I'm not. Have you ever dabbled? Yellowstone? I have dabbled.
Starting point is 00:41:49 I have dabbled. Ross and I covered two seasons of Yellowstone probably five or six years ago. Okay. So before you realized what it was really about to become, like first season. So we were not live with the seasons. We were, the show was, you know, probably at its, at maybe its peak with, with the buzz. Okay. Around season three.
Starting point is 00:42:11 And we decided to try to catch up because it was, you know, it was in the geist. It's what people were talking about. And I think we made it through two seasons, but we may not have finished the second because it gets soapy fast. Yeah. It really did. And that, that's essentially, I think that's the extent of my, of my Sheridan verse. watching now you've got some films he's involved like sacario yeah yeah um yep uh hell or high water hell or high water i always say hell or high noon uh wind river all ones that are like
Starting point is 00:42:47 critically acclaimed yeah different ways then you got landman land man land man yeah i watched most of the first season of landman i'm still watching landman what uh willst randall whilst acknowledging that what i'm better than Yellowstone. It's just, it has like the gimmicky angle of like, it's West Texas cool. I know people in this world kind of. It's interesting. Yep. And also like it's a lot of fan service, whatever. Then you got Lioness. Zoe Saldania. I will say for my money, I liked the performances from Billy Bob and Ali Larder. Sure. I enjoyed more than what I was getting from any of the performances on on Yellowstone. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So Lioness season three dropped and I'm like, oh yeah, I forgot I'm into this show. Essentially, she is a, she's a top dog over at the CIA, not a director,
Starting point is 00:43:47 not a deputy director, but like she's like a point person. She runs a team in the Lioness program. And they, in the first couple of seasons, her job is to like find female active duty military and run them through the program and they are going to be, this is like the top of the top. They are like the badasses and they are running these ops and only a woman could do.
Starting point is 00:44:12 They can do anything. They can do anything, as we've said, ally point for Will. And season three, here's the thing. With Taylor Sheridan, there's a lot of like, he has his boxes he has to check
Starting point is 00:44:27 and there's things now that he's very like synonymous and self-aware that he is associated with like the manosphere, the quote, manosphere, like he's in, he'll do Rogan.
Starting point is 00:44:37 He's a, he's had Rogan a few times. He's very into like, his dialogue, especially in Landman, he likes to editorialize, and you realize that if you know what he's doing, it makes the show almost unwatchable.
Starting point is 00:44:51 Actually, it does make it unwatchable. When you realize this, like, monologue that Billy Bob Thornton's doing about like windmills and oil and gas, you're like, okay, let him go off for two minutes on like, this talking point, this straw man argument against like a chat GPT,
Starting point is 00:45:07 uh, left wing criticism of the oil and gas industry. We're going to let Billy Bob address that, even though it doesn't really fit in the show, but go off. You're like, okay, cool. Uh, he loves doing that now. And it makes the show, it's, it's hard to get past that because it's not subtle. The problem is it's not subtle at all. And he likes to insert these little things into the show.
Starting point is 00:45:26 And in the first scene, uh, there's a, okay, well, there's a, uh, a month. That leads off season one, season three, episode one. And Zoe, her character working out in the garage. Cool. Looks great. It's not overly sexualized. It's like, here she is. She's lifting weight.
Starting point is 00:45:43 She's doing some abs and stuff. You know, she's the lioness program. Yeah. And then it's her in the shower. And it's a see-through. It's a glass shower. And there's her naked Zoe. And there's her looking great.
Starting point is 00:45:58 It's Zoe, right? Academy Award winner. And then her husband, like, comes in. Her husband's kind of, he's not in the military. He's not a total cuck, but he's got, he's clearly not the alpha in this one. And he, like, he tries to get in there and like, you know, going to do some sex. Yeah. And he like, oh my gosh, water's freezing cold.
Starting point is 00:46:18 And she's like, yeah, it's a cold shower. It's good for inflammation. And it's just very like on the nose. Like, yeah, okay. Taylor's been taking some cold showers. He's, yeah, this guy's really into, yeah. He's in his cold plunger. Yeah, it's just very like written.
Starting point is 00:46:34 It's like, I'm going to throw this. I'm going to throw a nod to all the bros out there doing the cold plunges. And she just is like, yeah, it's a cold shower. Take them every day. It's great for inflammation. And you're like, okay, cool. Don't let that stop you from watching the show because the show itself, it rules. Why?
Starting point is 00:46:52 Go ahead. Well, now I want to know why it rules. Because you get a ton of like, it's, it's a lot of like military porn, like CIA, Black Ops, off the books. Oh, but also fucking Delta Force. Is he writing all of this? Yeah. Just alone?
Starting point is 00:47:09 Yeah, and he does not take, he does not have writing partners. So he is. This, okay, this is actually a red flag to me. He's so prolific. He's got, what, six different shows on the air right now? Don't know how he's doing it all. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:47:20 And he writes all of them. It's incredibly impressive. I'm not trying to, I'm not trying to, you know, I don't know much about Taylor Sheridan, but, you know, just at a quick glance, he has the vibe of a guy who types like Dylan types and I just don't believe that he can put out
Starting point is 00:47:35 this many shows at this rapid of a clip that is absolutely true especially when you see him another thing he does and he did this in Yellowstone and he's done this in a few things now he comes from an acting background so it's not completely crazy
Starting point is 00:47:53 but he acts to write himself into like the dope his characters not main characters but like In Yellowstone, he was like a horse trainer who was badass, just a cowboy. And he got to have like sick, you know, quick one-liners. And it's like, oh, that dude, that dude flocks. Cassabelle Hadid is his girlfriend in this show, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:13 Yeah. Who is also in the horse world. She was dating the Venezuelan cowboy or whatever. Bull rider. Yeah. Has he written himself into lioness? The answer is yes, he has. What kind of character do you think?
Starting point is 00:48:29 think he wrote himself into? I like a total like a nerd like, you know, behind the scenes like guy. He's a sniper. No, I'm going to get. He's he's either like a big wig behind the desk, CIA, you know, manager or he's or he's some male equivalent of the, the lioness agents. Randy, look up Cody Spears, lioness. Okay.
Starting point is 00:48:55 Cody Spears, Delta Force team leader. Yeah. Yeah. He wrote himself in as the Delta Force team leader. And he's a big part of this episode. Like he's not like a fringe guy. He's like leading the ops. And by the way, he looks just as sick.
Starting point is 00:49:10 When you picture like, what's a team lead Delta Force? Like best is the best. This is what you picture. Yeah, Will, he does some sniping. Yeah. He does a little sniping. And yeah, his name's Cody Spears. And it's just hilarious.
Starting point is 00:49:24 It's exactly what I would do if I were to, if I were him and I was like, I can write myself into this show. Like, may as well be the, uh, the unit leader and get the cosplay as like, uh, one of these guys.
Starting point is 00:49:38 Yeah. So yeah, it's just, it's just fucking hilarious. And, but the show is compelling and the storylines are usually pretty good. They sneak some like, Nicole Kidman's in the show by the one.
Starting point is 00:49:47 Yeah. Yeah. Uh, Morgan Freeman. I believe it's still in the show. It's a huge cast and like, you get a lot of like editorializing where it's like, here's Nicole Kidman back at like,
Starting point is 00:49:58 like with her husband who's like a weird miscellaneous Wall Street guy and like they're talking like the real threat isn't Russia or China, it's AI and it's like ooh and but like it doesn't really have anything to do with like the plot. It's just like him throwing these things in there that he clearly read about. And he's like, well, people should know about this. It's just hilarious and also cool because there's a lot of like drone warfare. So how would you is it, is it do you think it's an atmosphere?
Starting point is 00:50:28 description to call lioness like red meat homeland oh yes yes less of a spy she's not really a spy oh she has worked for the cia she's not under but there is like she does have people who go under it's more it's way more military than than spy then yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah but you're that's a a good call now i've recommended the agency yeah so i'm i'm having a hard time selling my wife on the agency We keep watching the trailer for season one, and it's just, it's not, you know, it's not passing muster for some reason. I get it. I get it. And so I imagine that Lioness is going to be an even more difficult sell.
Starting point is 00:51:09 Well, let me tell you, because I don't mean, I know, I bet Laura would appreciate a strong female lead. True. Yeah, true. And Zoe is that. Zoe is that. And I know I do, Al at point, coming my way. Zoe is that. She's a badass in this show.
Starting point is 00:51:29 But not like, is she what? Is she her? She's absolutely her. But not like so much so where you're like, okay. It's like a good like depiction of like maybe what this character would be in her life. It's good show. But there are some things that I may have ruined the show for anybody trying to watch it now because they're going to be, oh my God, he's doing the thing. He wrote this dialogue.
Starting point is 00:51:52 He's clearly pandering to. you know, oil and gas industry. Yeah. Yeah. Whatever faction of geopolitics. That's how I enjoy shows through that prism. And it is, it is worth watching, I think. So that is my pitch to y'all.
Starting point is 00:52:06 Okay. On Lioness. Plus, as always. Bring on. I haven't noticed. Might have to fire up that, that Showtime subscription. Once again. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:19 Just brute force, the agency and Lioness, you know, have a little. have a little geopolitical fall. Yeah, man. Then you'll really start seeing things for what they are. Yeah. It's the only way to do it. This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. You've heard us talk about BetterHelp for a long time,
Starting point is 00:52:37 but I don't know that we've ever actually talked about how much people love the service when they use it. If you ever go check out the reviews, you'll see it for yourself. I'm curious. I'm a fan of retail therapy. I feel a little left out. I'm not wearing a tie-dice shirt today. Yeah, you fucked up. I feel very left out that I'm not wearing cool Nikes today. Yeah, yeah. But I feel like we can we can all agree or maybe we can all agree that there is a song in the summer and it might not be what people think. There's one that's been tossed around a lot. I'm not going to name it. But we'll see if we get there.
Starting point is 00:54:24 Well, I'm curious, if you guys have kicked this around at all on the pod. We've not. We've not. To be honest, it's been a bit of a down year in both summer TV, which we have talked about on the pod. But I would also say summer tunes. I actually don't necessarily agree that there is a song of this summer. Okay. Now, I'm sure I know which song you're thinking of that.
Starting point is 00:54:52 Ooh, should we all say it on the count of three? That maybe is the leader in the clubhouse. I have a leader, too. I just wonder if we're all thinking of the same song. Male or female artist? Female. Female. All right, how about this?
Starting point is 00:55:07 One, two, three. Choosing Texas. Bruce Horns be in the rain. Says Bolnar. Yeah, so choose in Texas is in the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the, is the guyst's choice. It is. I haven't listened to this song, full through. time. Can I join you?
Starting point is 00:55:24 Uh, same. Like, I've heard it. I know some of the words to it. I know the hook. I've seen clips of it online. I've seen it used on a million reels. I have never been driving in the car and had it start and then finish it. I've never put it on my own Spotify. From what I've heard, I understand why people think it's a good song. It's a great hook. I don't understand how it has this much staying power on the charts. It makes no sense to me. You know where I heard the song first was a a reel that was a video grab of a TikTok and it was a guy and it said me when World War III pops off and it's a guy in like a poorly photoshopped or added in face in a tank and it's like him with the ox the whole point is like what he's listening to and he was listening to this
Starting point is 00:56:14 song as he's like driving around in a tank like shooting at buildings okay and that's where I heard this song. And then I heard it, then it became like, this is like five months ago, it feels like. But yeah, that, that's the song. And will I join you? I don't think I've listened to it all the way through. I definitely have. Which isn't a flex. I'm just saying this. I mean, I probably have it a restaurant. That's fair. Like, yeah. Can I, do you mind if I hijack the, this entire conversation real quick for about five minutes? Please. Are you familiar with on the country charts anyway, the one song that is potentially going to knock off choosing Texas. It's by another female artist, who I literally learned about yesterday.
Starting point is 00:56:56 It's not B-Her by also Ella Langley? No, it's not. It's called Boston, and it's by Stella Lefty. Okay. Have you heard of this? No. Stella Lefty. Stella Lefty.
Starting point is 00:57:07 She's wait. Well, I was bearing the lead, but Will went right there. Oh, sorry. The song Boston is an interpolation of Noa Conn. stick season. Oh, okay. And so it's, it's, I did hear this. It's, it's obviously like, the, the, the, the catchiness of it is, is built in. Um, I, she apparently had like, she's from Chicago. She had a massive, massive, massive crowd at Lollapalooza this past weekend. The type that, that we typically call like the Lizzo crowd at ACL, because they put her on a way too small stage.
Starting point is 00:57:41 And then there's like, you know, a hundred thousand people trying to, to, to crush. Bailing on third I blind as they're playing their encore to go over to yeah yeah I remember it well um so I started looking into her yesterday listening to her songs she's got like a seven song EP um that is incredibly well produced every single song is extremely catchy and extremely listenable and um yes she is a nepo baby the the likes of which make gracie Abrams look like she pulled herself up by her bootstraps her dad is worth $5 billion because he founded Groupon. And, uh, okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:58:21 Okay, but, but, but, but, not a musical Nepo baby. Not a musical Nepo baby. But okay. Yeah. Yeah. So it's, you know, I know, I know, I know nepo babies are a tale as old as time in, in the entertainment industry,
Starting point is 00:58:34 but I do feel like, I don't know, it feels like, it feels like, it feels like the percentage of entertainers, performers, actors, musicians, whatever. I, I just feel like, percentage is climbing higher and higher and higher and higher of who gets to to be that. I think it's like it feels like it's 90% Nepo baby. Devil's devil's advocate. Much like people feel creatively freed up when their wife is not watching them make dinner. Like are these Nepo babies just feeling creatively freed up because their dads are
Starting point is 00:59:06 billionaires who found a group on and they can just go out there. Yes, that's the, that's the whole point is that they have the, I mean, I don't, a safety net is like not even the right word for it. They can, they literally don't have to do anything except for focus on the art. They're not playing a Friday night covers with a jar at Eurasia with a guitar. Right, right. And also like, they can get in, they have resources of networking that other people don't have. Like, even though like he's a coupon guy, I'm sure she could probably get into some sweets with some people.
Starting point is 00:59:38 And one of her, one of her other big songs right now besides the Boston one is like this, was co-written by the same person that co-wrote, she was in Texas. Like, her production is insane because she can already afford that level of, of productions. And I also don't want to take, like,
Starting point is 00:59:55 like at the end of the day, yes, she has to have a good, good voice. She has to have some sort of presence. She has to have some musical bone in her body. Like, and she is clearly good at this.
Starting point is 01:00:04 Sure. In the same way that I think Gracie Abrams is. But yeah, the, the, the, they start so, so much further.
Starting point is 01:00:14 head than literally anybody else that it's you know it's certainly a a bit of an unfair advantage it's tough i don't and i don't i don't know i just don't want to like like it kind of sucks to be reaching a point where every single person that gets to do something creative didn't didn't have to struggle to yeah yeah to create agree and like i i don't know i that my to compare her fairly or unfairly to other country um female country artists where i see like casey musgraves and i don't know her stuff is on the charts. Like, I don't know, because she had an album that's come out, came out this year.
Starting point is 01:00:48 Yeah. And it's like, I wonder if she's, like, are people listening to her still? Like, is her demographic now like solely 30 and above? Casey's. Can she compete with these, you know, the people, these songwriters or these singers, I should say, that come up and like make stuff like hoping it just goes off on TikTok. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:08 Whereas Casey, like, has been around for a long time. It is like a very unique artist and yeah. just an East Texas girl, you know? Yeah, yeah. I think Casey is absolutely still successful in her own right, but I would say that her recent album has probably been a bit of a disappointment. Really? Hasn't disappointed on KJ, I'll tell you that.
Starting point is 01:01:30 I think he's in the chat. Oh, sorry, KJJ. But honestly, I'm sort of like talking out of my ass there. I don't really know. Okay. I know she had to drop a couple. Like she had added dates to her tour, which she then had to drop. man, I base a lot of this off of like...
Starting point is 01:01:44 Yeah, she canceled the first few tour dates that she had for her new tour without any explanation. Which is usually a bad sign. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I've seen that happen a lot. Yeah. I mean, middle of nowhere,
Starting point is 01:01:56 says it debuted number one on the top of albums. I liked it. Pretty good. Yeah, that's a little bit of it. Yeah, it was a real bummer. I know you were sad because you were scheduled to go to the jelly roll post Malone show. And they canceled that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:11 Yeah. What happened there? I don't know. I don't know. You know. Despite the question, Dave, like, if we're talking Nepo baby, it's like, where do you think Mary Cutter be if her dad was super successfully, you know? Do you think that she'd be at the top of the charts? You got to think so, right?
Starting point is 01:02:28 I think she should be regardless of anything. Isn't her dad the Cutterwater guy? Cutwater. Oh, is it Cutwater? I think so. Randy, get us some nominations from the chat for Song of the Summer outside of Ella Langley, choose in Texas. Will's right.
Starting point is 01:02:42 It is Valley Road, Bruce Hornsby. I just want to put that. I mean, if you're rocking with us, then that's what we're rocking with. Yeah. If I'm getting the touch tunes, putting my control anytime in the next few months, like I'm going Valley Road first. You know when that song would have hit real hard back in the PGP touching bass Miata days? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:03 When we're just us in a Miata, just listening to that. I was driving to work yesterday and I was stuck behind a Merlo Miata. Oh, really? Took me back. Nistalgia much. Spotify told me that Shibuzi has a new album out. Shibuzi is also the face of college football this season. So, yeah, we're in for a Shibuzy.
Starting point is 01:03:23 What a come up for him? A Shabuzi fall as well. Can I pitch you, how about, can I nominate Dye-Dai by Shakira World Cup Summer? Yeah, that's a bot for me. If any, if I saw that get first place votes in the AP poll for the song of the summer, I'm like, that's kind of a great choice. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:38 Okay. So do you think that Stella is, going to be she's going to be at ACL yeah you think that they're going to change to her bigger stage then I think ACL likes to do that yeah I agree they were chapel her own right do you think it's a coincidence that her big song is a geographically specific song do you think the songwriters are like all right choose in texas popped off what if we did boston is it a tennessee disc track choose in texas yeah uh is it she talks memphis she talks smoky mountains so is it a texas this song well
Starting point is 01:04:11 Texas wins, because he chose Texas. Right, I know, I know. But so, I don't know. Whereas she's a Tennessee girl. Yeah. It's almost like, she's not, she's a Nashville artist, but she's from Alabama. Oh, we'll see. Come on.
Starting point is 01:04:24 And Stella Lefty, no connection to Boston. She's from Chicago. Stella Lefty is such a, like, old school, like troubadour, like. Yeah. Oh, Stella Lefty. She kind of sounds like a lot, like, I showed her music to Laura last night, and we were talking about how she sounds a lot like country music from when we were in college.
Starting point is 01:04:42 Like, it sort of have is like a Josh Abbott band, Eli Young sort of, it's obviously way more pop than that, but that's the sort of like... I'm going to give it a listen. It's good. I hate, like, I hate to say that, but like, I will go back and listen to it more and more. What day ACL is she?
Starting point is 01:04:56 I'm not sure. You know, I'm a Friday, that's the only thing I was going to say, though, Randy, is that I think her crowd was extra big because she's from Chicago. So I think Lala was kind of her, you know, that's her home base. I don't know if she'll be quite as big at ACL,
Starting point is 01:05:10 but I'm sure the crowd will be. huge and full of all of the 17-year-olds. You don't know what it was like living in Chicago back during the chance years. Oh, God. He would pop up at every single music festival and do a surprise set. It was awesome.
Starting point is 01:05:26 Chance. Man. Talk about a falloff, though. New album had some good songs. Did it? Yeah. I thought it did. I didn't listen to it all the way through. I was never that into Chance. He was like, I would listen to like selected songs, but I never did like a full album, die. So I can't. Never leave it up to chance, dude. I like his style. His style seemed cool.
Starting point is 01:05:47 It's an interesting one, but it's not one that I want to listen to over and over and over again. Yeah. I have a couple chance songs that find, find their way into the rotation. I get it. But it's not much. You know, if you've ever found like a subscription, find its way into your rotation, you don't want it there. It's great to have rocket money. Oh, I've been thinking that, actually. Rocket money will find those subscriptions and be like, hey, you know you're paying for this, right? And it helps you out. It's not just a financial dashboard. Of course, it's that. But we love Rocket Money. It helps you to track those subscriptions, and it can even help you cancel the unwanted
Starting point is 01:06:18 ones within the app, just a few taps away, giving users an easy way to stop paying for things they don't use. Like I said, I've done that before with an old podcast platform where I listen to one show and then paid for it for like two years. It's a whole thing. It'll tell you, it'll give you like a whole outlook on like, hey, you've got X amount of bills coming out this week. This is the best time to start saving money.
Starting point is 01:06:40 It's awesome. The app consolidates checking, savings, loans, and investments into a single dashboard. It gives you the clear view of the financial picture. Starting point is 01:07:02 That's RocketMoney.com slash circling. RocketMoney.com slash circling. Speaking of bands that might be at ACL, they're not. But I did see this Puddle of Mud tweet going off. And I just, I want to see if you agree or disagree. This new segment's called Agree or Disagree with this tweet. They were at Russ Fest or whatever and Silicon Valley. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:27 It's a good poll. Just read the tweet first. You want me to read it here. It says, um, puddle of mud, blurry MTV spring break, 2002. This video is a perfect encapsulation of everything that's been stolen from us. Yeah, you didn't
Starting point is 01:07:43 think I was going to pronounce that correctly, did you? It was really good, Randy. I just want to ask, like, is it? It's puddle of mud 2002. Like, if you think of like the new metal slash butt rock of 2002, puddle mud, were they even like of that tier of artists? Were they one that you're like, man, I miss them? I mean, are you going to play the very? video? Play a video. Yeah, people are like, it's Creed and Nickelback that people are really... You remember this song? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:17 Not necessarily the song you'd want to hear at Spring Break. Gotta be honest with me, but the girls like it. Do they even blow up a boat in the background? That, Randy... You guys keep stepping on my toes. Not every band got that treatment, dude. Come on.
Starting point is 01:08:34 They got the Fear Factor. The sign in the back. Back with old Joe Rogan. I read that this song is about a custody dispute with his X, so it's like, yeah, spring break, song in the summer. Sick. Pudel of Mud, she fucking hates me, right? That's it, that's it.
Starting point is 01:08:53 Which probably my choice of track. No, but they did steal stuff from us, guys. I think we're overlooking. Did they? I think we're overlooking. Like, MTV barely exists anymore. We don't get MTV Spring Break. Okay, they did.
Starting point is 01:09:06 You know, shitty bands like this don't get the opportunity to be. be the number three video on TRL anymore. Will and I, inexplicably. A band like this is a band that starts in someone's garage. And, you know, I'm worried that we don't have enough. I think too many people are starting on garage band and not a band in a garage. Oh, dude. And you can print that.
Starting point is 01:09:28 Well, Randy stole my bit already. But, like, what a missed opportunity to not use the limp biscuit blowing up the boat at spring break here for this tweet. There's been a ton of Limbiscuit nostalgia. If you're Limbiscuit and you find out that puddle of mud blew up a boat during their performance, you're like, well, then what do we get to do? Like, if they got to do it, then we get to do something more extravagant. I think you have to sacrifice a band member. I'm just saying, like, Will and I have talked about Limbiscuit blowing up the boat on retail therapy, no fewer than three, four times over the last three years, I would say. It was sick.
Starting point is 01:10:00 Sure. Like, that is a core memory for me. And so I respect the take here of, like, that 2000. to MTV Spring Break is absolute God-tier content that was taken from us. My, my, but I just, the, the choice of puddle of mud doing like a pretty slow burn. Yeah, like a song you listen to and like your girlfriend stopped talking to you. Yeah, yeah. It's just driving home, like in your Jeep.
Starting point is 01:10:27 That's a weird choice. That's a weird choice. Yeah. My, my core spring break, MTV Spring Break memories are one, Daisy Fuentes. I just love 90s kid. I love Daisy Fuentes. Two, Eminem,
Starting point is 01:10:42 when it was still like 1999, 2000 Eminem, like Slim Shady, like, hi my name is. And him doing that song at spring break and just like all like the, I don't know,
Starting point is 01:10:53 the model, the swimsuit girls coming out. Yeah. And just walking, like doing the runway. And him just like, just awkwardly trying to dance with every one of them. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 01:11:02 And like, it was just very, like, they were clearly like, didn't know what to do. It's one of the more awkward. Yeah. I think it was sexual harassment.
Starting point is 01:11:08 It was. It's not something that aged well. No. I mean, for me, I think the number one memory of MTV Spring Break, outside of Spring or Break, whipped cream bikinis, was probably bullish
Starting point is 01:11:22 performing glycerin in the rain. In the rain, yeah. Like that was all time. Gavin. Speaking of MTV Spring Break, whipped cream bikinis and aging well, Carmen Electra also on Nation's dumbest, not aging well.
Starting point is 01:11:32 Sorry. You can subtract an ally point from me, Randy. Oh, God. No, no, no, no, time out. Give him one back. They cancel out because he called his own foul, and I respect that. Wow. Integrity point.
Starting point is 01:11:44 Time out. All right. Take one from me. Yes. For assuming that that should be a, yeah, I'm not one to give out. I'm not in the position to give that. Can you give him a male friendship point for taking a fall? Gotcha.
Starting point is 01:11:56 Thank you. So I think as we, everyone is at one point. Actually, Barrett's at zero. I'm at zero. I thought I had two ally points. Women can do everything and something else. That was just the one thing. Hey, Will, dude, shout out to this hat.
Starting point is 01:12:12 I know, I saw it in the Instagram story the other night, and I was thinking, damn, that's a nice hat. Will gave me this hat. Will has a treasure trove of hats that are dope, and he just doesn't wear a lot of them. Male friendship point for Will. I meant to bring in all the hat. I keep forgetting.
Starting point is 01:12:26 I have two stacks of hats that I've gone through in my closet that I'm going to bring into washed HQ to see if anybody wants any. Part of the reason I feel. okay doing this is because one the hats are dope two a lot of them have been worn less than one time and zero are you feeling like the pressure like you need to because your wife put you on blast did she damn i think she posted she said i think will has a hat problem and there's like it's so many hats i just buy hats and i don't wear it just really like that i separated them into five different
Starting point is 01:12:56 piles i have chill cool guy hat okay that's one pile okay i have golf hats I have hotel hats, which are golf hat adjacent. The golf hat pile is the biggest. And then I have, I think just random graphic hats. And then I have a Grateful Dead hat stack. Hotel hats hit hard. I tried to, I stole Alyssa's and she, because she has like a Palmetto Bluff montage hat she got.
Starting point is 01:13:27 And it's like she bought it for me, but it's hers. I tried to wear it once and she was like, you're going to sweating that hat and I was like fuck you're right I am going to sweat I sweat in hats so I stopped wearing it so I've decided to stop caring about sweating through my hats I just don't care anymore I respect that like kind of ungovernable yeah yeah I've also learned that you know just getting them wet really cleans them off pretty quickly I've got some pool hats that like I just love like I should wash them but I just wear them to the pool on the weekends dude if you give a hat with some sweat stains just a quick dunk in the pool sweat stains are gone it's fine
Starting point is 01:14:04 Integrity, the hat's not going to ever be what it was, but it still gets rid of it. Stumble in the fall. Wait, I don't even remember. I saw a puddle of mud on the Death Tones back to school tour. It, Coca-Cola Starplex and the Ferris wheel at the State Fair was in the background. They could see it. And the guy just stopped and goes, man, the Ferris wheel is fucking huge or something. It's one memory I had.
Starting point is 01:14:33 It wasn't a good show. blown up the Ferris wheel. They should have. Or just set big techs on fire. You'd burn some years later. Yeah, he would. I read an anecdote on Twitter last thing on Puddle of Ludd that said, I used to work at the guitar shop where with one of the ex-band members of Puddle of Mudd.
