Citizens of the World: A Stoic Podcast for Curious Travelers - A Quick Hello, Plus Free Audio Tours Until May 31
Episode Date: April 28, 2018Hi. I’m trapped in no-wifi land at the moment. Just wanted to say a quick hello and let you know that my favorite audio walking tour app — Detour — is offering free audio tours until May 31. I ...wrote a review of Detour a few months ago, which you can read here. Unfortunately, Detour has been purchased by Bose and the future of this great walking tour app is unclear. After May 31, the Detour app will stop working. Until then, have an awesome time exploring the world’s best cities with Detour. Even if you don’t live near one of the cities offered, you can still listen remotely and soak in some great storytelling. Have a great week and talk to you in a few days. Hey guys, Sarah here. I just wanted to say a quick hello from ancient times. That is my friend's Berlin apartment. She does not have the internet, if you can believe it. And she's also super secret East German, so she does not want to come on the podcast to talk about being roommates in New York. I'm thinking of doing a little episode on people I've lived with around the world, because that list must be up to 100, at least by now. Anyway, all of this is to say, I will be back in a few days with the
new episode. So thank you for your patience. Before I go, I will just quickly mention that I just
have discovered that you can use Facebook to find businesses that offer free Wi-Fi. So on your
phone, open the Facebook app, and then click on the little hamburger icon, so the button with the
three horizontal lines. Scroll down until you find free Wi-Fi, where is this free Wi-Fi?
And you'll have to enable this, but after you do, you will see a map of the different places that
offer free Wi-Fi around you, and you can also look at this in list form. So you will only
find the places that say they have free Wi-Fi on their Facebook page. So some websites will be
missing. Of course, in open Wi-Fi spaces, you should always take security precautions
and use a VPN app like NordVPN. That's N-O-R-D-V-N. One more bit of travel news. So sad,
my favorite audio walking tour app detour has just been
purchased by Bose. I really love detour in its current form, which offers great audio guides
to the world's most traveled cities. It's unclear what Bose wants to do with the detour content,
but after May 31st, the detour app will stop working, which is so sad. However, until May 31st,
all the tours on detours app are free. So you can even listen remotely. So if you can't join me in
Berlin this weekend or go to another major city, you can still participate in a virtual tour through
the app, which is detour, spelled D-E-T-O-U-R. Okay, that's all for now. I'm going to go on a search for free
Wi-Fi after my friends wake up. You can tell them whispering. I'll talk to you guys in a few
days. Have a beautiful weekend wherever you are. Do you ever go blank or start rambling when someone puts you
on the spot? I created a free conversation sheet.
