Citizens of the World: A Stoic Podcast for Curious Travelers - Summer Break + Special Announcement

Episode Date: July 13, 2021

It’s my 10-year anniversary in England, and I want to give you a gift. But first, a story. In ancient Rome, when generals rode in on chariots during military processions -- triumphant, everyone che...ering -- someone stood behind the general to whisper, 'Hominem te esse memento. Memento mori,' which translates as 'Remember, you are mortal. Remember you will die.' It was a recurring wake up call to LIVE. Then and now.I started this podcast to inspire people to take action on their dreams before it was too late. To make every moment matter. I’ve interviewed many women who, like me, packed up everything to start a new adventure in another part of the world. I’ve been living abroad for more than a decade now. First in Italy and then in England. That was my dream. It's my mission to help other women get clarity on what they want in life, whether that's to live abroad or something else, and to take action on those dreams. So in honor of my England Anniversary, I’ve given myself the challenge of offering 60 free coaching sessions to 60 women in 60 days.Book your free session by going to sarahmikutel.com/2021clarity and using code 2021CLARITY at checkout***Hello! Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to Live Without Borders, a travel and wellness show for expats, the expat curious, and globally minded citizens of the world. We are the travelers, the culturally curious, the experiences and not things kind of people. And we know that freedom is about more than getting on a plane. It's about becoming the most heroic versions of ourselves, which is why on this podcast you will hear insider travel secrets, inspiring expat stories, and advice on how to live abroad. but you will also hear episodes that will help give you the clarity, focus, and skills you need to create a life that will set your soul on fire. I am your host, Sarah Micatel, a certified clarity coach trained in the Enneagram, and I first moved abroad on my own at age 18, and I have been permanently enjoying life in Europe since 2010. If you are ready to make some big moves in your life
Starting point is 00:00:52 and want my help moving from someday to seize the day, visit live without borderspodcast.com. Well, hello there, and how is life in your part of the world? I'm enjoying a mild English summer at the beach where I live, and I wouldn't have it any other way. 90-degree weather? No, thank you. Life here is getting back to normal, and we will soon be celebrating the Fokston Triennial, which is the biggest exhibition of newly commissioned art in the United Kingdom, in the entire United Kingdom. And for months, artists from around the world are going to use Fokston as their outdoor art gallery, which is just so much fun. And the art that they're creating is meaningful and reflects what's happening in our region, but also global issues. And you know how in some museums, the descriptions next to the paintings
Starting point is 00:01:42 are so abstract and obscure. And you know, they're just written by like, I don't know, PhDs who are trying to impress other academics. Well, the stories behind this art is actually interesting and it makes sense and it's quite fun to read. So if you're in England, I recommend coming down here and checking out the triennial. And maybe I'll do a podcast on the triennial someday. But for now, Live Without Borders is taking a summer break. But I'm not just going to be loafing around at the beach and hanging out with artists. No, no, no. I have a special announcement. It's my 10-year anniversary in England, and I'm going to give you a gift. But first, a story. In ancient Rome, when generals rode in on a chariots during military processions, triumphant,
Starting point is 00:02:28 everybody cheering. Somebody was standing behind the general and whispering, Hamanum teace memento, Memento Mori, which translates as, remember you are mortal. Remember, you will die. And this was a recurring wake-up call to live, then and now. And you might remember this story from my episode with Donald Robertson on Stoicism. When I first moved to England, my godparents had just retired and they were planning a trip to the UK and France, and I was really looking forward to spending time with them and showing them around my adopted city, taking them to Haiti and walking along the River Thames from the giant Ferris wheel to the Tower of London. But then they both got sick with really serious illnesses, and they
Starting point is 00:03:16 never traveled again. And I think about this a lot. I started my very first podcast, which is now called Live Without Borders to inspire people to take action on their dreams before it was too late, to make every moment matter. And I've interviewed so many women like myself who have packed up everything to start a new adventure in another part of the world. I have been living abroad for a decade, more than a decade now, first in Italy, then in England, and that was my dream. And I want to help other women get clarity on what they want in life, whether that is to live abroad or something else and to take action on those dreams. So in honor of my England anniversary, I have given myself the challenge of offering 60 free coaching sessions to 60 women in 60 days.
Starting point is 00:04:02 And I really feel like this is my soul work. So maybe you're the type of person who is a rock star helping other people, but you have a really hard time showing up for yourself. Or maybe you have an idea of what you want next in life, but you keep saying, yes, someday. And you just hope that the perfect plan is going to fall into your lap when you're ready. And no, that's never going to happen. And you don't have to be ready in order to gain traction in your life. You just have to be willing to take the next step. So if you want to take advantage of my coaching offer, you can sign up by going to sarah megatel.com slash 2021 clarity and use the promo code 2021 clarity. And I will have this in the show notes as well. And let's have a conversation. One of the biggest,
Starting point is 00:04:48 things that I've learned through helping other people podcast and something that I learned through doing it myself is that the toughest challenges when it comes to podcasting has nothing to do with technology or how much time you have. It's all about mindset, self-worth, people pleasing that leaves no time for you, feeling scared to share your voice, confusion about what your purpose is. And that is why I feel called to disturb you in a deeper way and why I am offering these coaching sessions. And I especially love helping Gen X women get crystal clear on what they want in the next half of life and how to get it so that part two of life is going to be absolutely epic and fun and free and focused on what you really want to do. And by the way, if you are 40, you have roughly
Starting point is 00:05:38 15,500 days left on this earth to live estimated. Just let that sink in for a second. 15,500 days. It's a limited number. We are not going to live forever. And the ancient Romans would remind you, you might not even wake up tomorrow. Memento Mori. So if this were your last day on Earth, would you be happy with how you spend it? What would you change? What are you looking forward to? Imagine a life with more zest and adventure, sipping cappuccino in a charming Italian piazza, being fully present in the moment. Relaxing. You are not sweating the small step. Can't even remember the time you had this much energy. Imagine having more clarity and focus about work. When you're sitting at your desk, you're totally in the zone, you're clear about your priorities, you know
Starting point is 00:06:25 exactly what step to take next. You've never felt this inspired or creative. And imagine relationships that feel lighter and more affectionate, more handholding and less arguing over the dishwasher. So let's design a life that sets your soul on fire. Take me up on my England anniversary offer for a free coaching session. by going to sarah megatel.com slash 2021 clarity and use code 2021 clarity at checkout for your free session. Again, that is 60 coaching sessions, 60 women in 60 days. That's all for now and see you in a few weeks after summer break. Do you ever go blank or start rambling when someone puts you on the spot? I created a free conversation sheet sheet with simple formulas that you can use so you can respond
Starting point is 00:07:21 with clarity, whether you're in a meeting or just talking with friends. Download it at sarahmicatel.com slash blank no more.
