All right, the breaking news this morning, a live look at the White House where any moment now, CNN should be allowed back in because a federal judge ordered the White House to let us in. Our Betsy Klein is on her way back into the White House this morning. This is a major ruling, and I know you will be back at work soon. But right now, some CNN staff have been unable to access White House grounds, and we are hopeful that we can get onto White House grounds soon. It could be just a question of bookkeeping at this point, of trying to get that back in. All right, the breaking news this morning still not inside. Our CNN reporters trying to get back on White House grounds after a judge ordered the administration to let her and others in. As of a few minutes ago, it had not happened yet.

Our White House correspondent, Betsy Klein, has tried to get in more than once this morning and she has been denied access. Betsy, if you can hear us right now, explain to me why you are outside the White House and not inside the White House grounds. Yes, that's right. And so I was denied access this morning. We thought maybe this was a clerical error. It could be processing, could be bureaucracy, but you've tried three times. It's been several hours now. White House reporters are always on the lawn at 7 a.m. There are people to let you all in there. So interesting that it hasn't happened just yet. Yeah, not only is this about a judge's order, it's also a day that is incredibly busy and important at the White House to have our reporters inside. Our cameras. We need our cameras.

Betsy, thank you so much. All right, let's continue the conversation. I want to bring in CNN senior legal analyst Ellie Honak. Look, normally by now, we have had reporters on the White House lawn doing their jobs and for a journalist for hours. It is now almost 930. This hasn't happened yet. I mean, is the Trump administration blatantly breaking? the rule here that the judge has ordered. Well, yes, the Trump administration is flagrantly in violation

of the order that came down. Is this just sloppiness? Is this just a failure to communicate? Or is this intentional? Completely inexcusable. And that, of course, is just sheer lawlessness. Or at the very extreme level, there can be imprisonment. Trump's going to jail. And they needed to be allowed back in immediately. Now! But it hasn't really happened yet. Katelyn has this news coming in. Caitlin, what are you learning? This lady will put you to sleep. The press passes are not in the hands of the journalists that tried to go to the White House and enter this morning. And this is already heating up in court. I can't do it.

Between the White House press corps and the White House itself. Spit it out. And the credentials haven't been restored. Why? Are you serious? Like, that's just not the way this should work. This is problematic where I don't want to be overly dramatic. Well, you are being.

We're in a tough place, John, Kate and Sarah to say the least. We're watching three major breaking stories at this hour. An emergency hearing has just been filed by all three news outlets. Is that there is not compliance yet from the White House. Refusing to abide by Judge Kelly's clear order would be a dangerous escalation. Okay. And a clear affront to the rule of law. That business hours.

But right now, we are still unable to get into the White House. And this is notable, particularly because right behind me, you may. We see President Xi Jinping, the Chinese leader, is arriving here at the White House. And what that means is that there will not be televised coverage from these five networks, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and Fox News. Wow, that, I mean, I don't remember a time, Betsy, where you wouldn't have that kind of coverage for a big visit like this with the leader of another superpower like China. Never even dawned on me that something like this could happen. This is embarrassing to the United States, that you cannot unilaterally ban certain outlets of reporters from the White House. Is that CNN is due to be the pool, the TV pool, for the visit by the Chinese leader Xi Jinping,

and the events, of course, this evening at the White House. And so the access to the White House is key for that to happen this afternoon, this evening. So we've never seen anything quite like this, and that is why it's a test for press freedom. As our colleague, Caitlin Collins, put it to me a moment ago. Right now, the Chinese communist state media are allowed on the White House grounds, but we are not. And I think that says it all. Breaking news. Welcome to Inside Politics. I'm Dana Bash.

She did so earlier today, multiple times, and she was denied despite a court order. There you see, Betsy. in the backpack with the trench coat on. We're just going to follow this because we're getting this in as we speak. Trenchcoats. She's the one to the left. She's talking to the Secret Service, trying to find out if, in fact, the White House is complying with a federal judge order.

We're also waiting to see if our photojournalists who are trying to get in with her to do their jobs are able to do it. You see Betsy in the front there? She is walking towards the White House gate, and we are waiting to hear from her what happened when she actually tried to gain access. Just by way of geography, what you're seeing now is her walking, as I said, to the Northwest Gate. If you're familiar with the campus, the executive office building, the EEOB, is to her right. And she's walking to the guard shack that we all go through in order to get all of. of our bags, batteries, swept, and just like you would at an airport, going through a MAG. That's so good.

And generally, for people who have a White House hard pass, which was taken from Betsy and other reporters, you put on the hard pass, you plug in a pin, and then you go through. We will see what happens any moment now to see if Betsy and others who were banned are able to get in. as we wait to hear. All day long. Betsy, we're told now has just been able to get in. So that is an update and it appears that perhaps now
