Starting point is 00:00:00 Well, I think it's illegal. I mean, federal law ignated it. What? It's illegal. It's illegal. It's against the law. Concerned about the fact that what we're doing is almost piracy. It's like imperialism.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We're national courts. Yes, the way this is being done is illegal. We should be following the law. This is a country of laws. We don't, though, guys. Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Obama, Bush, Trump won, like Biden. We should be better than this. Clinton Jaws is exactly 10 o'clock a.m.
Starting point is 00:00:29 The view. is start well just started one second ago the introduction i think i'm going to be doing a video about the view because i'm watching trump on air force one last night and i know that i know the view if i'm a good predictor the view is going to bring this up instantly this is what trump said last night take a look who's in charge we got everything back got everything back and nobody killed I like her. The next question is who's in charge of Venezuela right now? Have you spoken to the newly sworn in president there, Rodriguez?
Starting point is 00:01:07 And what are your thoughts on the entire situation when you said the U.S. would run Venezuela? We're dealing with the people. We're dealing with the people that just got sworn in. And don't ask me who's in charge because I'll give you an answer and it'll be very controversial. What does that mean? That means we're in charge. Have you spoken with her? We're in charge.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Uh-oh. Have you spoken with her? No, no, I haven't. But other people don't. At the right time, I will. Whoopi, it's not gonna like that. This is how well I know the view. They're gonna have a meltdown over this,
Starting point is 00:01:37 and we're gonna watch live. It's now 1002. So let's watch the view live together. Had to turn on the heat, I'm freezing to death. And that's not smoke. Whoopies there. What are you gonna start with? And this is our first show of 2026. Yes.
Starting point is 00:02:11 2026. Damn. And I was little. I used to think, what is it going to be like in 2020? Weird. My gosh. Well, we're here and we're back
Starting point is 00:02:25 and we're happy to see you. Remember when you know who kept campaigning on this promise? We're getting out of the nation building business. We must abandon the failed policy of nation building. And regime change. Our current strategy of nation building and regime change is a proven absolute failure. So remember all of that. Well, now America and the world have a lot of questions.
Starting point is 00:02:55 As the U.S. captured Venezuela and President Nicholas Maduro and his wife Celia, who are about to appear in a courtroom right here in New York. And the administration can't seem to get the story straight about their plans in and out of Venezuela. Take a look. We're going to run the country until such time as we can do a safe, proper, and judicious. Air Force one clip coming up. Is the United States running Venezuela right now? What we are running is the direction that this is going to move moving forward, and that is we have leverage.
Starting point is 00:03:26 This leverage we are using and we intend to use. Don't ask me who's in charge because I'll give you an answer and it'll be very controversial. What does that mean? Listen to the crowd now. I haven't watched us. By a sick man. So there will be an operation by the U.S. and the North.
Starting point is 00:03:41 It sounds good to me. We need Greenland from the standpoint of national security. So while perhaps no one is going to miss a tyrant like Maduro. Oh, perhaps. Perhaps. Perhaps. A legal thing? I mean, who voted for this?
Starting point is 00:03:59 Who said, hey, yeah, go on in there and do this? Because originally wasn't it? We was concerned about the drugs coming in and out, and yet he pardoned like a giant. What's a conservative going to say? So what is this all about? I can speak to the legal part of it. I think Anna can certainly speak to the geopolitics of it all, but it's not legal to do this. It's not legal guys.
Starting point is 00:04:21 It tells you why not. But several members of Congress and other legal experts have said this operation to take Maduro was illegal because you didn't see congressional authorization. Why wasn't congressional authorization necessary? It wasn't necessary because this was not an invasion. We didn't occupy a country. This was an arrest operation. This is a law enforcement operation. Well, it's not legal because it violates international law, right?
Starting point is 00:04:42 And this sort of represents this new, I've never seen it before, the president of the United States to kill, I believe he killed over. I believe. The U.S. government killed over 100 people, including civilians and military in Venezuela during this kidnapping and capture. I haven't seen that headline. And international law doesn't allow it unless there is, unless Congress declares, And Congress did not do that. So this country was founded on the premise of the balance of power, right? So you have checks and balances. So you have co-equal branches of power. So you have the judicial branch and then you have the executive branch, which the president is a part of. And then you have,
Starting point is 00:05:26 of course, the legislative branch. And that's Congress. And they're supposed to check each other. This president is doing whatever the heck he wants without any checks or balances. And I have never in my lifetime seeing this type of regime change, which is what we just saw, work out well for the United States. It just doesn't work. And in my view, this is completely, completely 100% illegal. Well, so I do think, oh, go ahead. Look, I don't think this is at all. Nobody cares what Alyssa thinks. The Venezuelan people. Donald Trump doesn't give a damn about the Venezuelan people. If he did, he wouldn't be taken away temporary protective status and 600,000. be arresting the Venezuelans that are seeking asylum here. This is a very, very happy day when
Starting point is 00:06:14 we see a dictator who has been part of oppressing and abusing the Venezuelan people for 25 years. When we see him in handcuffs and held to some sort of accountability, it brought me into tears. It brought me great joy. What's the problem? You know, I live in South Florida. Are you okay with the way that it was done? But you can, I think both things can be true. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:36 I think you can criticize and ask questions and have concerns about the way it was done and what this means in the future. Right. And I think you can still celebrate that this murderous, corrupt sadistic son of a bitch is out of Venezuela. I hate Trump, but. People have fled from this man's tyrannical rule. So for me, I am very disturbed by Donald Trump's words about the opposite. leader who legitimately won the elections that Maduro stole. He said that she, her party, won the election. She said he, she, Maria Corrina Machado, has no respect or support of the
Starting point is 00:07:20 Venezuelan people. She won the elections against this dictator by 70% of the vote. This is important. I think that's very well said. Two things can be true at once. I am celebrating that Nicholas Maduro is out of power. This is a man who has starved, impoverished, jailed his opponents. He is a bad man and a dictator. I just want you to know that. Two key things that stand out to me. The lack of congressional authority is incredibly important. There's a long history in this country to be clear, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan,
Starting point is 00:07:46 where we've had very fragile congressional authority to go in. But what I care about is what happens tomorrow because I saw the news and like Anna, I was celebrating. I'm like elections and move on. Can I ask you this though? Because the thing that's interesting to me is Venezuela, I don't think a lot of people know. He owns 20% of the world's oil, more than Saudi Arabia. And Trump, for months, we've been saying at this table, this is about the oil.
Starting point is 00:08:16 But for months, Trump was saying this is about narco-terrorism. This is about drugs being brought to this country. When you look at the indictment, it's about drugs being brought to this country. And so isn't anyone concerned about the fact that what we're doing is almost piracy. It's like imperialism. We're going to another country. What have they done? What McGeara do for 25 years or however long?
Starting point is 00:08:39 If we can do something like this, who's to say that Vladimir Putin then doesn't go to Ukraine and arrests of Zelensky? Who's to say that maybe the other could happen because we're talking about the Democratic nations of Ukraine versus. But who's to say China won't go in it and take time? The dictators are the problem. But I think. But would you be okay with that? What I'm saying is again. I would be okay with taking out Putin.
Starting point is 00:09:05 I would be okay with taking out Putin, absolutely. But right now I think the problem is why leave part of the regime in control? Because you're leaving his vice president and all the people that were an extension of his dictatorship. The people that punished and led with the corruption and all the other problems he did. And you're saying we're in control, but we kind of left them in charge. And there are also already warrants out for some of them. So you're leaving part of them there, but you're saying we're in control. What could happen here is every time we leave a country, there's a power vacuum.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Yeah. I know who comes next in this. I know people that today are still political prisoners in Venezuela. And so my question is, if the U.S. is running the Venezuelan government, if the U.S. is running the policy, if they are telling Maduro's minions what to do, why in the hell are there still political prisoners being held in Venezuela today? The next day. Can I add real quick? The Venezuelan people are very, very confident holding elections even under unsafe environments. I met Juan Guaido, the former opposition leader.
Starting point is 00:10:10 They turned out in droves tens of millions of people to support him, despite the fact they could have been jailed, they could have been imprisoned. They know how to show up for their rights. They have wanted this for decades. So just told an election, they know what to do. Yes, well, that's all well and good. Oh, here we go. But what happens the next time? Right.
Starting point is 00:10:28 If Vladimir Putin wants to then go into and take and in prison Zelensky is that okay. Well, he's trying to assassinate him. What do you mean my next? Is it okay for us to do that kind of thing? Well, my concern is if it's good for us to do, who else are we going to do it to? A bunch? How many? A bunch.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Listen, there are a lot of bad people. But I also watch this man release really horrible people. back into life. I watched him release people who had people killed, thrown out of airplanes, all kinds of stuff. I do appreciate though that he's standing trial in a U.S. court. There was a world in which they would have sent him to Guantanmo Bay. He wouldn't have had the same rights of due process. He should stand for his crimes.
Starting point is 00:11:18 Everybody who's guilty should stand for their crimes. And it should mean that once you've stood for your crime and you've been convicted, you don't get to come. You don't get to come back. Frankly, he should be standing trial in the international criminal and he should be accountable for the crimes against the humanity. That's the other question is where is the international court? Yes, the way this is being done is illegal. We should be following the law.
Starting point is 00:11:46 This is a country of law. We don't though, guys. Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Obama, Bush, Trump won like Biden. We should be better than this. But also Greenland, I think you can. Greenland, we're not okay. with taking over. Okay?
Starting point is 00:11:59 We'll be right back. Sunny. You know you've been watching the view too long when you can predict what they're going to say in the morning. I didn't know what this was going to be about. It's the first time I ever tried this. But it's obviously a clip about Sonny Hosten and how clueless she is. What'd she say? What'd she say again at the end?
Starting point is 00:12:21 Where is the International Court? Yes, the way this is being done is illegal. We should be following the law. We don't know, guys. Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Obama, Bush, Trump won like five. We should be better than this. Effective. We should be better than being effective.
Starting point is 00:12:41 You can't get more effective! It's good that Maduro's gone, but not like this. We need to be better than this. You can't get any better. You can't get any better, you clueless tit. My posting this? Why not? Bye-bye.
Starting point is 00:12:59 I was right. Clinton Jaws was finally right about something. So several artists canceled their gigs after you know who slapped his name on the Kennedy Center. What do you think of his attempted rebrand? Well, I think it's illegal. I mean, federal law designated it. So what?
Starting point is 00:13:19 I mean, to your point, we'll be like, it's illegal. Federal law designated the Kennedy Center as a national memorial and you can't change the name of a national memorial without Congress, right? So it's illegal. You're not supposed to be. You're not supposed to. It's against the law.
