Former cop Clinton Jaws talks about the sad killing of a police dog named Jago. Cpl Macleod lost his partner on June 17 2021 after a suspect he was chasing shot the dog. Cpl Macleod and Jago might be responsible for saving police officers lives that day. The suspect has yet to be arrested. Police have identified the suspect as Lionel Ernest Grey from the High Prairie area. He’s described as weighing 190 pounds, six-foot-two with black hair and a dark complexion. Clinton Jaws. Hi Prairie RCMP. I wanted to come down here and acknowledge this, that a police dog has been shot and killed, and it needs to be acknowledged. It's sad. I don't really know what I'm going to say because I'm not good at this kind of thing.

But I just wanted to show you the dog. Good looking dog, good-looking owner, trainer, Constable McLeod. I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm sorry that you lost your partner. It's terrible. and they're looking they're still looking for the bad guy and I'm just going to show you a short clip from the media what I've learned what I've heard and I can't confirm but I guess there was a

gun battle between police and the suspect at some lake when I win a gammy lake there might have been two gun battles that's what I heard I can't confirm it and the dog ended up getting shot Most likely from the suspect. And I don't know the full story, but when you think about it, that dog possibly saved lives of those members yesterday. Thursday. And Constable McLeod might have something to do with saving some police officers. I'm guessing.

as an ongoing police operation is underway near High Prairie involving a man wanted on outstanding warrants. RCMP just wrapped up a press conference at the headquarters in Edmonton and that's where our Sarah Ryan is with the very latest. So Sarah, what is the service saying? Well, Jen, we know that yesterday morning RCMP attention. intended to conduct a traffic stop and arrested man named Lionel Ernest Gray. Lionel Ernest Gray.

There are a popular provincial park called Winogamy. The officers say his vehicle got stuck in the mud and he fled into the forest on foot. Officers and the canine unit gave chase and RCMP confirming this morning that the suspect killed their service dog. Officers are continuing to search for Gray today and they have evacuated parts of Winogamy Park. Now, of course, the loss of a service dog is a major hit to the RCMP. The mayor actually lowered the flag. It almost, well, did kind of put some tears into my eyes when I heard that he did that. I thought that was pretty cool.

Hopefully they can tell us more about the dog's service later this afternoon. By the way, I want to say this. I got to say this. I just want to say this, okay? Lionel Ernest Gray. There's no picture of him. Like the other guy. Why isn't there a picture of Lionel Gray?
