So I feel like now it's just like the evolution of it where you can actually see people reacting to the music and all that.

Some of it obviously is like performative and shit and that should be hilarious. But I think it's a good like tactic for DJs to get themselves out there. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? And I was in a school of communications and shit. And I found out they had the W.HBC, like, the radio station. Yeah. So I used to be, like, on the mic, like, hosting shit next to, you know, I had, like, a radio show and all that. And then, like, when artists would come to the school, I'd be, like, the MC on the mic on the mic. like hosting shit, like, all right, coming to and say, that's how I met like Big Sean,

like all these niggas back in like, even like Cole, all them niggas, like, first college runs and all that. I'd be like the emcee, like, you know, egging people on, doing whatever. And I used to be in the club. This is when I was like 19, I used to take my IDs so I couldn't like drink and shit. Damn. I'll be on like an emcee next to the DJ. And I'm like, I'm not going to lie this shit kind of lame a little bit, like to

be like next to the nigga with all like the juice and on. So I was like, you know, I just want to do both. So I like, soul of shit, got a little set up. I would just practice. Because when I first started, I was terrible. And then, like, Howard was like, I'm not going to lie. You kind of tripping. Like, you might stick to the host and shit.

But, you know, I just put the reps in and all that. And I moved up here and then, you know, I figured it out. That HBCU life, man. No, it's different. I can imagine that campus life a little bit different. Yeah. And it's just, like, as a DJ, I credited so much just because, like, Howard was different. It wasn't, like, a local genre.

Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, where if you go to, like, a prayer view back in Texas, it's like, a lot of people from Houston and Dallas go there. So it's, like, more local to that. Howard is like, niggas, niggas from Atlanta, the Bay, Jamaica. So, like, you really learn all this music. Like, it's like a crash course

to just like black culture, hip hop, R&B, whatever. So I really just knew all this different type of shit. My sorrano was loaded just with everything you can imagine, you know, when I left school. So I was just prepared for everything, you know what I'm saying? Damn, you went to, Howard. I went to predominantly white school. How was that experience?

You know what I was? It was different. You know from where I come from. My old school, high school was black, so it was a little different. But to go to Howard, I just know what the mom. parties was like. Like I said,

fucking, like, culture clash type of shit. Now, it was loaded. Like, I didn't go to, you get in your bag, actually, make you work. That's what I'm saying.

So, like, that's when you first see, you're a freshman, you on the yard, you're just seeing all this shit. You've never seen before. I'm like, who the fuck? Why do these nakers talk like this? And why they dance like this?

You know, you just learn it so much, like, as soon as you get there. So that's like how, that's like the real, like, Howard experience, you know what I'm saying? How old is, they had a BET weekend. 2012, you was a freshman? I was, freshman I was, freshman I was 208. That was my, I walked across the street to vote for Barack Obama. And that's, like, my first month at a highman's special. Oh, yeah.

I was there in the golden years. Yeah, yeah. Kyle and Curtis. Yeah, I seen him out to fire out there. Shout to Carl Rale. And them things was out there, boy. You know that. You know that?

There was like some DJ canceled at, it was the Derby back then.

It's like 2014, 15, some shit like that. And I got the call to DJ there. And so I did my thing with I was playing like, man, you know, shit, I'll play a Howard. And then the next day there was like, can you come back? And they were like, All right, today, gonna be like a little more commercial than yesterday.

And I'm like, what the fuck is it's commercial? Like, I really didn't understand that the time. They were like, top 40. I'm like, what the hell is top 40? So then I literally was like in the middle of the DJ set, just downloading everything from like the billboard, whatever, and just like mixing it in as best I could. And incorporating like the rap with it.

And that's when it was like, all right, this thing might be pretty talented. So, yeah, I used to be there like every, pretty much like two, three times a week. Then they closed it to turn it into up and down, which I think. And my personal, like, club life is still like the best club to ever exist. Okay. And my entire shit. shit, I probably did Thursdays there, like, every Thursday for like seven years or something like that. It was just, and the thing is, like, back then it was like people albums always come out,

you know, like Thursday night, midnight, whatever. So you come to New York, do your press, and then everybody after party would be at up and down. So, like, Nick, it was every week with just somebody album, come to do the after party. So it was just like a rotation. And when you had that little string, you're like, you know what I'm saying? That's when I was like, all right, this shit rocking out. Like, I'm good, you know. Now to jump around.

Is it hard to play new music in the club or like, was something just dropped unless it's like a major artist? It's tough. Like, people just aren't as, like, hip to shit as you think. You know what I'm saying? Like, even I was playing some of future shit last night. And, you know, people know it, but it's like, it's not just the entire crowd that really just, you know,

but that's a part of, like, breaking records and breaking artists. They still got to have, like, the confidence to do it. So, you know what I'm saying? You ever have a service with you? so you switch from that shit to be different. And it's like, nah, this shit ain't working, you know? So it's not been times where I just, you know, wasn't thinking like the highest of myself. But then you just, you know, come back and have a great setting and, you know, go from there. I know you got a bunch of sets on that other than guaranteed winners, though.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. I'm about to say, dude, you got, like, a song that you thought was a slap. And, like, because I, I, and I, you know, I DJ my house parties. Yeah. It's songs. It's true.

With my head that slap. Yeah. And then when I play for everybody else, everybody that's shit. Yeah. Go on say it. Right. And it's stuck back in the area when you was a Howard.

That's his all around. He getting his bag. He'd do well. Yeah, yeah. But when we start hitting 16, 17, 18, it's quiet. Yeah. It's quiet. Yeah.

It's wild now because, like, just even being in clubs and all that, It's like now, you know, being 36 is like, the club isn't like catered to us no more. Hell no. Hell no. Hell no. We're the old niggas in the club, loki. Yeah.

So, like, now it's like the new, like rich niggas, like the new athletes and shit, they run in the shit, they bind the bottles, whatever. And they want to hear the shit that they were too young to party to, it's like, oh, hell yeah. Like, you know what I'm saying? I grew up to it here and now is in the club. To them it's like, oh, yeah, play like some like 2016 Ouzi or some shit. Like to them, that's like, oh, yeah, I remember being in middle school, high school,

and this was this shit. And now I'm old enough to really go up with this shit. So, like, it's like a resurgence of all that. You know what I'm saying? That's what thing about that. When you pull up, you'll see, we get a lot of praise for our DJs because they blend real well. They transition real well. We'd be having some crazy mixes in the city. But, like, in the club, you'll hear something.

You may have heard before the way that they just transition. Yeah. Be fired enough to you. But all right, I can focus on this old ass on. Yeah, it's all about delivery for us. all about delivery at the end of the day, like sneaking in, like them classic joints and all that. So, you know, that shit just be fun. I'm never going to get tired of it for real.

So I actually went to Indy where the headquarters is at. And with them, they were like,

they wanted me to do like three like Houston colorways, like for the Astros or some shit. And I was like, I kind of had like some of the ideas of my sleeve, whatever. So I had the idea for the first, like the what they had, the maximal joint. And honestly, I was surprised at how like easy and seamless, like they made that creation to be because there's different fabrics and all this different like type of satins and shit

that they had never used before. But shout out to Jason. man, he's like a super talented, just like fucking design, graphic designer, all that. So he made that shit come to life. And, yeah, we released it March of last year, and that shit just flew off the internet, flew up the shelves. And then from there, Lawrence is like,

now we got to make this bigger than like a partnership. So that's how the whole creative director shit came about. And it's been a beautiful process for real. So, yeah, I just love, you know, just creating, getting ideas off, getting other people involved. I want to get all involved. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's like a whole thing.
