Starting point is 00:04:20 So how you what, nasty? What's up, bro? Let's get to it, baby. Now, Gabby, listen, we know you keep your feet right. Jordan Brand, you know what I'm saying? We know how you what for sure. Have you ever seen the black Air Force ones with the white laces before?
Starting point is 00:04:30 I have never seen that, actually. I was just looking at them. I don't like it, though. I mean, I'm I don't hate it. Gabby, shake my hand. Why, you don't hate it? No, that's his thing. That's what he do. OK.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Talk to Jordan. You're going to be my first female signee. So I'll just take her. Jordan? What size you wear? I'm gonna talk to Jordy, you're gonna be my first female signee. So, I'll just be a friend. You're gonna take her for Jordy? What size you wear? I got a little feet, I wear eight. Oh, okay, that's light.
Starting point is 00:04:51 I'll make sure you get something for your head back on the plane. All right, sounds good. Hold on, hold on, what you? You all right? You stuck? Nah, I just think she got really nice shoes on then she championing that shit.
Starting point is 00:05:02 So, it's all right. Now, I'm just saying right now, you coming to Total Fist of the Black Fortune, you definitely getting five fouls that game's all right. Now I'm just saying right now, you coming to tunnel fist with the Black Fortress, you definitely getting five fouls that game for sure. Yeah, and she already in the fist. Yeah, and she already in the fist. Why you still the ball? She in crash on the ace of spades.
Starting point is 00:05:14 She's a hack. Uh oh, okay, might be on grand. Yeah, yeah. All right man, tomorrow right my dog, young Nacho, young Tig, how you what? I'm chilling man, special W edition like you said, we excited. Come on man, we gotta talk about it man.
Starting point is 00:05:26 High school legend, went to college, got a chip. First year All-Star, the one and only Ms. Gabby Williams. How you doing? Appreciate you just pulling up on us. Thank you, thanks for having me. Have a season you're having right now. How you feeling? Like you know what I'm saying, first time ball show.
Starting point is 00:05:38 What's this experience like? I'm feeling good. I mean, it's been kind of a weird two, three years. You know, I've been like in and out of the league a little bit, like with, you know, national team and overseas commitments. So it's just nice to have a full season in the W and for it to be going so well. Most W. All right, now for our Boost Mobile question. Shout out to Boost Mobile. $25 unlimited nationwide tap-in with Boost Mobile. You familiar with Boost Mobile?
Starting point is 00:06:00 I know Boost Mobile. Hey, tap-in. Gabby said she's trying to lock in. You see the Vox for sure. Yeah, fuck. You know what I'm saying? Nice for you. You know you're a joy brand athlete. You know what I'm saying? Having a little Mobile. Hey, tap in, Gabby says she's trying to lock in. You see the box for sure. Yeah, fact. You know what I'm saying? Nice piece, you know you're a Jordan brand athlete, you know what I'm saying? Having a little bit of up and downs in the W. What's that like when you sign your first shoe contract?
Starting point is 00:06:11 I see the commercial, you know what I'm saying, dropping. What's that feeling like? My first contract, specifically with Jordan, was crazy. I was like, I couldn't believe that Jordan wanted to sign me and I was excited about it. Our national team, you know, France is all Jordan. ESG is Jordan. So I thought that was a really cool crossover
Starting point is 00:06:25 today because I was doing a lot of stuff. My first presentation with Jordan was the K-54 in Paris. So that was a dream come true for sure. For sure. What's that like, you know what I'm saying? Obviously, you know, you're big into the fashion and stuff like that. To have those two combined obviously with the home country and then the whole Jordan one way stuff. And they go crazy over there every year. What's that like to be involved in that? Like you said, I mean, it's like where fashion meets sport meets culture meets everything meets street. So it's just so fun because all the things that I love and I think Jordan Brand like really represents me as a person and what I like. So just lucky that it kind of worked out that way.
Starting point is 00:06:56 Yeah, I was in the commercial. I was like, oh yeah, that's fire. Yeah. Yeah, commercial is dope. So since you're a Jordan Brand athlete, like he said, we beg on here. So since you're a Jordan brand athlete, like he said, we beg on here. We don't get to it. We love George's story. Now let's go ahead and get to it. Now find Tony, we like George now. You look around, everybody over here got a pair of J's
Starting point is 00:07:18 on the side of him. Committing to sin right now. He missed a workout in here. He ain't getting ahold of it. Shout to Malkman. Go ahead and tap us in though. Oh, they just dropped. Does the truck just pull up?
Starting point is 00:07:28 Like how is that? Like when you get your merch, are you getting 20 pair of shoes, 100 outfits? Yeah, honestly, yeah. Like everything I have on now is the first time I've put it on. Like I feel like I don't really gotta wear things twice, honestly. Oh, you ain't cold. I'm so honest.
Starting point is 00:07:43 Like Jordan, between any of the brands I've ever been with, like, they send us these elite packages every month, so you have us coming out. So they always keep us looking nice, for sure. OK. I'm going to shout out Jeff. Jeff Jordan. You know, he be writing me on the pile.
Starting point is 00:08:00 You know, he text me sometimes, like, yeah, I'm a pile legend. Type in. George Damir got the best way suits, bro. I ain't seen that one. That's some new shit, but. I got to shout out Jazz then. Okay, yeah, no, shout out to that. Jay, the one who signed me.
Starting point is 00:08:12 Okay, shout out to Jazz. Her husband rock is my guy. Yeah, for sure, King, that's my man. Shout out to the family for sure. What do you decide to play in, you know what I'm saying? I know you very peculiar with the fashion. You go whatever's new. You just rock the same pair of couple shoes.
Starting point is 00:08:24 You switching it up too, like the outfits. I switch it up. I switch it up. I usually do like the same two style, like pairs, like shoes, and then I'll switch up the colors as much as I can. And Jordan has made me some P.E.s, which I've been, which I love. So sometimes I wear my P.E.s so much that I get sick of them. And then so I try to like mix it up.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Now this flexing is high. She's going, flex. I just wear my custom set so much. I get sick of him. And then so I try to like mix it up, you know? She's going flexing. This is the craziest flex. I go back to the reading stuff. This is flexing out at all times. I loved it. I loved it too. The Blasey Blasey Nervous, man.
Starting point is 00:08:55 For sure. Talk about a high school legend, you know what I'm saying? Growing up in Reno, what was it like? What was the hoop scene out there? Oof. It was like the tumbleweed. Honestly, but honestly it was it's like a it's a small town everyone knows everybody and then my dad had an
Starting point is 00:09:12 academy that I grew up playing in but I would go to like the Bay Area a lot to get you know a bit more competition and exposure but it was cool because you know a lot of my best friends to this day are people I grew up playing against and playing with so the basketball community is small, but I'm trying to give back and help it grow a little bit right now. Most definitely. Did you play anyone in high school that we would know that was like, yeah, I met my match a little bit?
Starting point is 00:09:37 Not necessarily in Reno. Dang, oh my. I mean, when I was starting playing in Cali maybe a little bit, I started playing against like Jordan Canada a lot or Mooney Billings. I started playing against like Jordan Canada, a lot of them. When you're in Billings, I was playing against them all the time. I'm too, Hoopers for Show. Yeah. They're my generation.
Starting point is 00:09:51 I think I played against Kelsey a little bit, but not necessarily in Reno. I mean, listen. No disrespect. Just a small town. No, respect to Reno. You understand yourself. You was like that. We looking where you at now, your journey.
Starting point is 00:10:03 You was killing the hospital, for sure. Nothing wrong with it. For sure. I don't want to skip ahead a little bit too much with this, where you at now? Your journey? You was killing the high school for sure. Nothing wrong with it. For sure. I don't want to skip ahead a little bit too much with this, but you know what I'm saying? You having a relationship with like the Bryan family. So them coming out to your high school games and stuff like that, like what's that like when you like, all right, I made it now. They come to watch me play.
Starting point is 00:10:17 I mean, that was a full circle moment for sure. And then getting to work out with them and literally learning from the best effort to do it was insane. It's a memory that I'm just so lucky that I have. What's a Kobe workout like? Because we always talk about, you know what I'm saying, first in the gym before everybody else. Was it at three in the morning?
Starting point is 00:10:36 Four in the morning? It wasn't, but I asked him, I was like, what do you do with your day now that you're done playing? What is a normal Kobe day? He's like, I still wake up at four, I work out, and then I drive the girls to school, I make breakfast. Like, he's just still very disciplined in just his day of being a dad, which was crazy. But the workout, it was a lot of reps.
Starting point is 00:10:54 I remember he would rep everything like 20 times until you like did it perfectly, and then you would go on to the next thing. That's one thing that like stuck out about his workout for me. Yeah, that was just not my workout. You got five makes. Next spot. Yeah. Your dad have you played against the guys growing up? Yeah, I played against the boys all the time. My uncle, he ran the boys side of the academy and I actually played growing up actually like probably primary school, middle school. I was mostly just playing on like the boys team to be honest, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:25 All right, so that's how you just skills up for sure. You think playing with the guys? I think it did, it did. It was a bit more competitive. Little bit more physical. More physical. Now the defense makes sense now. Yeah, I get it.
Starting point is 00:11:39 It makes sense now. The fouls, yeah. Yeah. That's what a black airport is. That's what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:11:48 You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:11:55 You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:12:01 You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? She unlimited the bitch for sure. Obviously, you go crazy in high school, and then now it's time to make that college decision. You know what I'm saying? What's that like for you? Because obviously, everybody wanted you to pull up. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Yeah, that's... Yeah. She's probably sick. She's probably sick. This is not it. No, I'm internalizing the question. I'm not. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:12:19 That's not that. I think it was like once UConn started recruiting me, I was like, I'm going to UConn. Yeah. It was pretty... Well, I mean, having Gino come to started recruiting me, I was like, I'm going to Yukon. Yeah. It was pretty cool. I mean, having Gino come to my game the first time was wild. What's actually crazy is the first time they came to watch me play, the assistant, Shay Ralph, came to Reno to watch me.
Starting point is 00:12:34 And the next day I tore my freaking ACL. What? The next morning I tore my ACL. So something told me like this is destiny that like Yukon saw me play like right before I was hurt. And I was like, they got a chance to see me and recruit me and get to know them. But I was like, divine timing, I think.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Yeah. Man, I couldn't imagine an emotional high and low like that back to back. Like, all right, UConn here and then you have an injury. Like, damn. What grade was you in? I was a junior and then I redid it my senior year. Yeah, I read the, yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:00 I'm actually the tourer right there, two years in a row. That's crazy. Wasn't fun. But luckily, UConn got a chance to check me out before, so things still worked out. And UConn was like, come get the surgery with us, come rehab with us.
Starting point is 00:13:11 So. Like, what is that like though? Like, I had surgery before, but like doing it back to back years, do you get to a point where it's just like, man, I don't know if I'm gonna keep doing this? When I found out that I needed the second surgery, I like, I broke down.
Starting point is 00:13:24 I was, that was tough. The first one I was like, okay, I'm still young. I'm gonna get through it. It surgery, I like, I broke down. That was tough. The first one I was like, okay, I'm still young. I'm gonna get through it. It's fine. Like I'm a junior. And then I found out about my senior year. I was like, I have to do that all over again. Like it was an exact calendar year.
Starting point is 00:13:36 Damn. Yeah. It was like January and then I had to do it again in January. So that was tough. But once I got to UConn, because I went to UConn like three or four months later, it was cool. I was like, all right, I'm in something new. I'm in a new environment.
Starting point is 00:13:49 So. Yeah. People don't know what after that, they said them first two or three weeks for like years. Yeah. He tore his, he didn't go to the hospital. Yeah. And I wasn't asked, I wasn't asked either.
Starting point is 00:14:00 No, I definitely couldn't. I had to wait. I tore in the club. He thought he was gonna walk it off. I said, boy, if you don't leave. I'm gonna take you to the hospital. I'm gonna say it was crazy. You know what I'm saying? I had insurance, but it wasn't a athlete either. No, I definitely couldn't. I had to wait. I tore in the club. I thought I was gonna walk it off. I said, boy, if you don't get it, I'll take you down again. So obviously it was crazy, you know what I'm saying? I had insurance, but it wasn't the coldest insurance.
Starting point is 00:14:09 I tore my shit in December. And December was gonna fuck me. I tore my stuff in December, the second week of December. What's in two weeks? Christmas. What's after that? New Year's. So all the doctors are like,
Starting point is 00:14:19 yeah, I'm fucking with my family. So I didn't get mine done until after the New Year's. I would definitely quit walking around the city. Boy. I'll have to ask CL for that. Some people don't ever get it done though. Like some people just live their lives like, no rehab, no nothing.
Starting point is 00:14:31 What? Like people, non-athletes. But still like. Yeah, I know some people do it. God bless. Yeah. It's like, who can hit a truck. If you don't get it fixed, boy, you a demon.
Starting point is 00:14:42 I ain't no tell what else you battlin' in your body. At least in my problems. If an emergency break out, you are in trouble, man. No run-ins, no, you ain't got no side to side. No duckin' at all, man. Shout out to the Survivors for the show there, man. But listen, before we go any further,
Starting point is 00:14:59 we got y'all some love. We got a gift for you, you know what I'm sayin'? Shout out to the people at Tommy John. I got a gift? Of course, We appreciate you Okay Sorry about that and man shout out to the good people at Tommy John man, they sponsor this episode It is underwear with game pause
Starting point is 00:15:15 It's what you need to breathe sweat fighting fabrics. I love the Tommy John keep you cool, man They got all the technology to keep you safe and cool in the summer and shout to Tommy John I saw you know what I'm saying? Tap in, Club 520, get you a little percentage off there. Oh, shoot. Okay, you tap in? I got Tommy John on the day. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:15:34 We don't want to close up with that. Shout out to be here for sure. We're refreshing. Thank you, Tommy John. Hey, tap in. Tommy John, you know what I'm saying? She's like, what you seeing so far? Ooh, it's nice material. We know the vibes. This is nice. Thank you, tap in. Tommy John. You know what I'm saying? She's like, what you seeing so far? Ooh, it's nice material.
Starting point is 00:15:46 You know the vibes? This is nice. I'm on code club520. Tap in. That's TommyJohn.com. We appreciate y'all for sure. Yeah. Nice and comfortable. Come on. You know the vibes, man. Summertime, we get wicked outside. Stay dry out there. I know. I'm a clammy girl, so... I'm just sweating.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Was defense always your primary thing, or was you like the scorer first? Both, I think. Like, growing up, I was just a lot more athletic, I think, than everyone. It wasn't even about like the basketball at that age. It was just like, who can run faster and jump higher? So I think that allowed me to be a good defender and scorer. But when I started going to college and playing the pros, I learned that defense is gonna keep me on teams.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Defense is gonna get me minutes. Defense is gonna get me paychecks. So I think that's when the, okay, you are actually a defensive mind, or player, kinda came into play. And you started off with a cheat code, because you started off in track. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:42 You was a real athlete before. You started off a little crazy, dude. Damn, what you run? I did hurdles and high jump was a real athlete before, you started going crazy, dude. Damn, what you run? I did hurdles and high jump. High jump. Damn, you dunking? I used to, I can't dunk no more. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:16:52 I believe, you run hurdles, you cold. Did you ever try volleyball? I think I played volleyball like one season in middle school, but nah. You probably would have been raw, though, in volleyball. Yeah, volleyball is probably banned. I mean, clearly you're doing what you love, but you were probably steaming on the volleyball field.
Starting point is 00:17:09 You said make it an awesome team. But you put your arm like. Nah, but sure though. It was a cute little moment, but it wasn't for me. Wasn't the vibes at all. All right, Naila, you know what I'm saying? You get to the point. Prestigious, UConn, win or don't matter.
Starting point is 00:17:23 What's that like walking on campus day one with all them type of expectations? Yeah, I think I didn't realize like just I mean, I knew UConn was like the best school and had all these championships, but you don't actually know. Oh, that's debatable. You don't realize it? Debatable. Who has more than more championships? I mean, they don't got more, but the best.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Who is the best? I think Tennessee up there. That Tennessee got some trouble. Ooh, South Carolina might have some trouble. No disrespect, but I obviously disagree. I love that. Obviously disagree, but anyways, cute moment for the… Shout out to Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:18:03 I felt reminded and cute. No, mad respect though for especially what Don is doing right now. moment for the... Shout out to Tennessee. I'm not sure why they're so cute. MAD RESPECT though for especially what Don is doing right now. I think he is building a dynasty. That's no debate about that. But the dynasty at the moment is definitely for Ariana. And you feel it as soon you step on campus. And then you have to ask yourself, oh am I actually built for this?
Starting point is 00:18:21 Because everyone wants to be cute and everyone wants to have the championships. But it is actually an insane kind of like, like, I don't know, just pressure cooker. You got a crazy story about Coach you can tell? Publicly? Publicly, I don't know. I'm kidding. I was actually just talking, I was talking about this yesterday because Paige and I are obviously like, what, 10 years, 12 years apart. And she was like, what was Coach like when you were there?
Starting point is 00:18:50 And I was like, you know, there's a lot of times where it's like a bit, you know, he's going to get at you, it's going to be really hard, you're going to hate him. And then you get older and I'm like, he was right about a lot of things. And I don't want, I didn't want to admit it, but that man was right about a lot of stuff. He a legend for sure. And we gotta talk about your squad too. Damn near everybody in that squad in the W and dang they're all stars. Like what's that like you walking in with future Hall of Famers on the squad? Yeah, I was thinking about it yesterday when I was seeing like Fi and Stewie and everyone
Starting point is 00:19:20 and Paige, I was just like, dang, we do have still Mad UConn people everywhere. Like, and it's just, yeah, and like, even if we all didn't play with each other, it all still kind of feels like a family because we all know what the other has gone through. So like I said, he is right. He knows how to make the best product. Yeah. What's old girl from here that played at UConn? She went to her just... Yeah, I forgot her name.
Starting point is 00:19:43 She was raw. She was nice too. She was raw. Kristen? nice too. She was wow. Kristen? No. No, not Kristen. She was a killer. She went to heritage Christian. Yeah. She had a burner. I can't think of her name off her hand. Man, I'm mad I don't remember her name. She was real good in high school. She went to UConn. He came. Ferris? Oh, Kelly Ferris. Yeah, Napstow legend. Kelly Ferris. Yeah, she's fromis. Yeah, Naptown legend. Kelly Farris. Yeah, she's from Indiana. Yeah, she was a bucket.
Starting point is 00:20:06 She was fun to watch at UC. And she held it down at a small school. Yeah. Shove, shove. What was them battles like in practice though? Yeah. Did y'all add each other? Like...
Starting point is 00:20:14 They were at us. I think like they were hard. I mean, coaches just make you, I just remember never feeling so out of shape in my whole life. And I was like the athlete. I was like the athlete. I was like the athlete. I was like the athlete.
Starting point is 00:20:22 I was like the athlete. I was like the athlete. I was like the athlete. I was like the athlete. I was like the athlete. I was like the athlete. I think like they were hard. I mean coaches just make you, I just remember never feeling so out of shape in my whole life. And I was like the athlete, you know. I was the one running miles and da da da. And I came out, I was like, dang, maybe I'm not... Well, yeah, I wasn't as good as I thought I was. I wasn't as in shape as I thought I was. Definitely not as disciplined. So it's kind of like you go and catch up or we're going to leave you behind kind of thing. And we would always make sure that they always make sure our practices were harder than our
Starting point is 00:20:47 games so that we were kind of prepared for anything. Was that like that for y'all too? They were good. Like her coach was proven. Something like my coach was improving. My coach died. So the assistant coach was improving. So we did whatever we wanted. What?
Starting point is 00:21:06 You know, like they say, the prisoners was running. Who was running the jail? There was another dark-ass story. It's true. He didn't smoke a bottle of baby time. It's true. Like, her coach was proven. When you went to UConn, you knew you were going to UConn because you wanted to play for him.
Starting point is 00:21:23 And he had set a certain standard. I went to school, my coach died when I got there. So whoever got the job, nobody was like, nah, who's this guy? Just so we had to save a program. We had to save a program. He was process. Life's so damn hard over there.
Starting point is 00:21:38 It ain't, it's just the truth. So I mean, I didn't want to go to a school like that though. I didn't want to play for a team that had that kind of like prestige. I just remember Coach, like my, when he was recruiting me and he sat me in his office and he was just like, you can come here if you want, but if you don't, you'll just lose. Like we'll win a championship with or without you. Like he's a gymnast.
Starting point is 00:21:58 I wouldn't have been, I wouldn't have felt good. Yeah. How did that make you feel? I was like, okay, I'll come tomorrow. Like, I'll be like... Oh, okay. I'll be like... But he does it to almost all of his recruits, I learned, as kind of like a test of like,
Starting point is 00:22:13 do you want it to be about you or do you want it to be about us? Oh, okay. He would have lost me. I was out of here, I was like, okay, I'm going to beat y'all. That's how I would have took that. You would have tried to draw 40 on you. I'll try to drive 40 on you, man, I'll try to get 75 where you come.
Starting point is 00:22:29 So what happened at Chappaquiddick? Well, it really depends on who you talk to. There are many versions of what happened in 1969 when a young Ted Kennedy drove a car into a pond. And left a woman behind to drown. There's a famous headline, I think, in the New York Daily News. It's, Teddy escapes, blonde drowns.
Starting point is 00:22:48 And in a strange way, right, that sort of tells you. The story really became about Ted's political future, Ted's political hopes. Will Ted become president? Chappaquiddick is a story of a tragic death and how the Kennedy machine took control. And he's not the only Kennedy to survive a scandal. The Kennedys have lived through disgrace,
Starting point is 00:23:07 affairs, violence, you name it. So is there a curse? Every week we go behind the headlines and beyond the drama of America's royal family. I'm Maria Hinojosa. I dreamt of having a place where voices that have been historically sidelined would instead be centered. For over 30 years now, Latino USA has been that place. This is Latino USA, the radio

Check out Behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved.
Starting point is 00:25:50 San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team. We need veteran players and we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch and so the succession plan of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. You're building a team from scratch, and so the succession plan of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier, and we watched Paraguay against Chile, pouring rain, just watching the fans jumping up and down.
Starting point is 00:26:19 I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only was that gonna be my game, but it was gonna be my life. but it was going to be my life. Listen to San Diego FC Behind the Flow. Now on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Alright, now listen, second year, you know what I'm saying? You do what you kind of does best. What's that feeling like? Yeah. I don't know. That was a crazy feeling, national championship.
Starting point is 00:26:45 A defeated season. Undefeated too. I just remember those stewies last year and we should've like, let's just make memories. Was it easy? Yes. Be honest. No. No, it was not easy.
Starting point is 00:26:56 You didn't pop shit all show. Keep it real. Y'all was ruining the shit. It was not easy. Y'all walked through that. Yeah, but like I said, because of what we did behind closed doors was a lot. Okay, so practice was hard. Was the games easy?
Starting point is 00:27:10 The games, we were well prepared for them. That's what it can't be on. They put built ass all season. Playing with Brianna Stewart though, also makes life, yes, games are much easier. Man, y'all killed people. Y'all was killing people. I was Yeah, man, y'all killed people. Y'all was killing people.
Starting point is 00:27:26 I was like, oh my goodness. You remember your best game that year? I was excited about the Final Four because I got to like start and I had like a big role in it and everything. Cause my first year that we won, I didn't really play very much. So it was cool to be like, okay, I played a part in this one.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Nah, that's fine. Now the next year, what's that like? The next year was... The next year actually started off pretty good. Yeah. Started off good because everyone was like, what are they going to do without Stewie, Moe, and Tuck? And it was kind of up to like Mee-Fee and Lou.
Starting point is 00:27:58 To kind of like be the next, you know, core. And it was going better than anyone expected, which was cool. Like we were beating all these expect, uh, beating everyone's expectations. And then the Mississippi State game. Yeah. Just weren't ready for the final four. Going to the final four though, like, dude, like, are they excited? Like the UConn fans are like, yeah, we made it to the final four. Is it like, ah, they still let down. Nah, they live for the final four. UConn fans. I mean, cause I feel like if you don't go to the championship and is they're like, ah, they still let it down. Nah, they live for the Final Four, UConn fans. I mean, cause I feel like if you don't go
Starting point is 00:28:27 to the championship and you're at UConn, they're like. Yeah, and one loss, that's crazy. Like one loss is like, oh damn, we had a messed up CA. Like damn, everybody else is like, we had a hell of a scene, we lost one game. Wait for it to go to the Final Four. Oh, we build new things at the school. We're gonna lose.
Starting point is 00:28:41 It's definitely buying beer kids. Yeah, for sure, for sure. That's a good. kids. Yeah, for sure, for sure. That's a good. You caught it like, damn it, gotta get them next year. My record was like something, however many wins and three losses. But two of those losses were freaking National Shadow Fanship, you know?
Starting point is 00:28:57 Like, they were two big losses. I mean. I don't care about that record. And how it's like, I lost a game. You lost three games. I don't know. Real record. And how it's like, I lost a game. You lost three games. Realistically. That is unbelievable.
Starting point is 00:29:07 That's helpful. I know I'm jumping ahead, but what's that like when you only lose three games in college and then you go to the W or you go overseas and now you lose, you know, three to four games in a week? Yeah. Like what? I think it was kind of a weird relief and like not having kind of pressure. It was a different kind of pressure because it was America's year.
Starting point is 00:29:29 I was trying to find my way. But I just remember just trying to keep like my head above water and just trying to like learn the ropes of the W. And I was just focused on, we weren't winning. So I was just focused I think on a million other things of just trying to like figure myself out in the league. Now, Freaky Mike pulled up your record. That's crazy. 148. Yeah. But all I think about are the two, even the one, all three were in overtime. All three were, yeah. So you damn near went 151.
Starting point is 00:30:01 And you just said it. She was like, well, not to rehash or something. That missing you saying, I know that's a little tough. That's a sensitive subject for a lot of y'all. You out there. I was on the record that was playing Missing State that year. She was the guard. I kept the guard name. Morgan Williams?
Starting point is 00:30:15 Yeah, she was ballin' that. Oh no, my fault. What'd she say? She was like, Morgan Williams. I didn't have a question. Morgan Williams. No. That's crazy, 1483. Yeah. Morgan Wood. That's crazy. 1483. That is crazy.
Starting point is 00:30:26 That is insane. Now, I want to ask you this question. How do you feel like your college career would have been with the NIO? Oh man. Oh my gosh. I don't know. I remember like me and Stewie after the national, her fourth national championships. Yes.
Starting point is 00:30:44 Inter-roll, which is crazy. Yeah. 4-0, we're getting all this media coverage, and we came back, we were like, what we got to eat? I was like, we got some minute rice, and some frozen vegetables. And that's what we made for like our...
Starting point is 00:30:55 The celebration. ... celebratory dinner. I think I had like maybe some dollar stakes from... I don't know where. Y'all was supposed to be in the row, we're going, you better be glad you didn't get gout. You didn't.
Starting point is 00:31:04 Yo. Wait, you went 0- glad you didn't get gout. When you went 148.3, I'll submit a right to a legend. I got your back. That's what y'all hate for real. For real. So Sebastian, as Napier said that before, like they wasn't. Yeah, because UConn was different because we lived on campus, so we didn't get like stipend and stuff. We got like food points to the union, but you use those food points like in the first two weeks.
Starting point is 00:31:26 I remember like, this was illegal, but I was selling my shoes and stuff. Like I was selling my Yukon stuff trying to. Wow, they should just. Like camps. That's really crazy. Cause we wouldn't like that away from it. Nah, facts, you was taken care of, but.
Starting point is 00:31:41 For sure. For y'all to do all this winning, and you talking about what we finna eat Should be the last thing. Yeah How do they get y'all there? Yeah, what is the sale? I mean nobody had any like nobody had any of us. It's not like we were the only school that broke college You know broke college kids Nah
Starting point is 00:32:01 It was but they weren't champions. We We older than you, it's some schools, people got different perks. He went to Wake Forest. They weren't winning nothing over there. They was not gonna tell him, hey, we got some men in rights and some pros and veterans. No, I mean, they fed us. Before I get in trouble, they fed us after every practice.
Starting point is 00:32:23 We had training table, we had breakfast and everything. But you know like we just got off the plane or a little probably hungover and get to the apartment and like we know we're not ordering no steak dinner. Nothing. So. Oh no it would have been lit. And we're joking for the sake of the problem. I'm telling you right now yeah I need Outback to open up right now actually. Like that's what I'm saying like they didn't like wait for us. We be beat Duke, they have everything opened up. Like come eat for free. Like y'all was at National Chip Show.
Starting point is 00:32:51 I would think like whatever the restaurant. We just got old Trump. This is what's up. They didn't like have a celebration. Like when y'all landed, like y'all got back, it wasn't like people going crazy. Or y'all just went too much. So people just.
Starting point is 00:33:02 No, no, no, we definitely party. Like we definitely, yeah, yeah. It was like the plane, no, no. We definitely partied. Like we definitely... Yeah, yeah. It was like the plane landed, all the fans were there and everything. Like we had already partied. I think it was in Indianapolis, I think. Oh yeah, then party. And then...
Starting point is 00:33:13 Intercontinental wasn't open yet. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They didn't party. They didn't party. If you know, you know. No, we definitely had a time. It was like more of the... When everything kind of settled and we were just like in the apartment after and we were
Starting point is 00:33:24 like, oh, by the way, we gotta go grocery shopping. Like, we have no money, no food point. Back to reality. They don't like, they like, people around the city didn't get y'all free stuff? What city? Storrs, Connecticut.
Starting point is 00:33:39 Yeah, Storrs. There ain't nobody there. Damn, but if people work at ESPN. How do they, how do people go to ESPN? It's a subway out there. On my mom, it's a subway. Only person with the subway at the train end with Jussie. You got anything?
Starting point is 00:33:53 He didn't make it back. You got Chick-fil-A. You got- Chick-fil-A, they got Chick-fil-A now? Yep, they do, I heard about it. McDonald's, they just wanna tap the old child. Me and them were crazy. My boy tested in stores. They take care of the girls, they're taking care of the Storrs, you tap in? Me in there, we're crazy. My boy's tapping in Storrs.
Starting point is 00:34:05 I was just saying, I'm taking care of the girls, I was taking care of the city. We're giving all that money to that city, that's crazy. Nah, but now it's a little bit different. How many people fit in that arena? In Gample? I think it's like 12,000. Aw, man.
Starting point is 00:34:17 They oughta be. Go for me, tap in. But now it's up. They probably getting good money now, but I'm just amazed, cause I'm like, even like the boys teams, they have really good teams. Yeah, they been watching since we was kids.
Starting point is 00:34:28 Yeah, like I wanted to go to UConn. Since being born, the Mecca Okafor, all those. We was in high school and middle school. Yeah, but I'm like, how did they get Rudy Gay to go there? And Ray Allen went in the 90s. I gotta go up there. Go to the league, that's what we owe. I gotta go up there and see what's going on.
Starting point is 00:34:44 Shout out to UConn, man, procedure program for sure. All right, now we talk about what's going on. Shout out to you, Kyle, man. Procedure is programmed for sure. All right. Now we talk about the league, you know what I'm saying? Find your footing. I want to talk about, you know what I'm saying, playing for the national team. What's that feeling like? Holding it down for your people, going crazy, especially this last summer. I know y'all metal, y'all went crazy, but what's that moment like to hoop against some of the best talent in the world?
Starting point is 00:35:00 And you know, it's a little bit of a different game from the W, I imagine, as well. Yeah, it's a very different game from the W. Playing for your national team is so different. Like it's, it's a really special feeling because you're just playing for so much more than just like basketball. You know, you're playing for your country, playing for your family, playing for your people. And it's just like every game you feel like you're fighting for your life. Like every game feels so heavy and like so much pressure on it, which makes it more exciting. But yeah, it's a different feeling. Especially when you're, you know what I'm saying, the host country is your home country.
Starting point is 00:35:30 That's why hella pressure. Yeah. It was like as soon as Tokyo was over there, like y'all start preparing for Paris right now. Like it was a lot of pressure on us for Paris for sure. Man, you got to fight some really good teams, you know what I'm saying? Obviously you're playing in W. What's that moment like when you're playing against USA? I love playing against Team USA. for Paris for sure. Man, you got to face some really good teams, you know what I'm saying? Obviously you playing in W, what's that moment like you playing against USA? I love playing against team USA.
Starting point is 00:35:49 I love playing against familiar faces and I love like showing like, hey, we can hang, you know, and like showing not just them, but showing ourselves. Like look at us, like we can hang with them. We just gotta like believe you. Most definitely.
Starting point is 00:36:02 I don't want to bring this up as well, but we got to over here. Yeah, big KD moment. Oh, a big toe? Yeah, a big toe. KD moment. Yeah. What's that feeling like? It was like, I wasn't that upset about that moment,
Starting point is 00:36:14 to be honest. Like, everyone asks about that, you know, like the foot on the line, but I wouldn't change that moment. I would change like 50 other moments that happened before that. Cause we definitely just like cracked and kind of bubbled under the pressure the last few minutes, you know, I was like, why would we take this time out now?
Starting point is 00:36:31 Why are we shooting contested threes over and Brianna Stewart? Like, where's our help side in this play? Like those are the things I was thinking about in the last three minutes that if we could have changed that, maybe we could have silver medal in the home country. Nothing to, you know, still proud of that for sure. Most definitely. But it's just funny to detail. That's film work right there.
Starting point is 00:36:51 With Wabish, you know, for contention. How many times did you watch that game? Yeah. How many times did you watch that game? I think only like once or twice, to be honest. I probably could have never watched it. It took a long time for me to watch it. I would have been like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Especially like the third, third, fourth quarter. I'm like, oh, just cringing at a lot of it. But, um, yeah. I'm like, oh, I'm just cringing at a lot of it. I'm like, oh, I'm just cringing at a lot of it. I'm like, oh, I'm just cringing at a lot of it. I'm like, oh, I'm just cringing at a lot of it. I'm like, oh, I'm just cringing at a lot of it. I'm like, oh, I'm just cringing at a lot of it. I'm like, oh, I'm just cringing for me to watch it. Especially like the third, fourth quarter I'm like just cringing at a lot of it. But yeah, I don't know. I know it's a moment that people talk about and everything. So most definitely. But would you say that that summer in North St. Perpetual
Starting point is 00:37:17 is a great season you've had so far? I think so, honestly, just being able to like show myself that I can be good in these high pressure situations. You know, like I can be the moment, I can arrive in it, just like proving that to myself. I think I needed that. Most definitely. I want to talk about your game a little bit, you know what I'm saying? I'm tapped in, you know what I'm saying? You got the strong right to left pull up.
Starting point is 00:37:37 Where'd that come from? Is that from Pops being in the gym? Because you hoop a little bit differently than everybody else. And obviously, you know what I'm saying, the defense is there, but the offensive game, you got the halfspinner, that right to left, you getting buckets off that. What's that like? Don't be telling them my scout now. Wait, hold up. You are an all star.
Starting point is 00:37:49 They know you. They can't stop it. Go on, answer the good one first. I think like, especially with my mid range, it's come because I used to be just so much more athletic than everyone. So it used to be like all the way to the rim every time I get to the rim, get to the rim finish. And I'm not kind of like when I'm playing year round, so I'm tired.
Starting point is 00:38:08 But also the kids are catching up to me a little bit as far as like athleticism. OG. So I'm trying to like, yeah, the midi helped me kind of still, you know, get to my move, but I just, I don't have to get all the way to the rim, you know, to finish. We talk about it, you know what I'm saying, especially with SGA and other people, the midi is back. The midi is back. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:32 The midi is back. All right. What's the, what's the weakest part of your game? Now you're really on my scalp. Yeah. I watch real film. I'm going to see if you tell what I've been watching, then we can talk about it. I think my biggest, I'm streaky. So if I start good, I'm, I know I'm going to if you tell what I've been watching, then we can talk about it. I think my biggest, I'm streaky.
Starting point is 00:38:47 So if I start good, I know I'm gonna shoot well that game. If I start bad, it's gonna be, it might stay bad, you know? Yeah, I saw that in a couple games. Yeah, yeah. When he was doing the scout. Yeah, what about going left? You comfortable going left? Why you think it's a right to left midi?
Starting point is 00:39:01 That's okay. That's all he is, Randy. Talk to him. Respect, respect. Why you think it's a right to left midi? What? That's okay. That's all you hear, it's Rondi. Talk to him. Respect, respect. Nah, you call it, though. I'm fucking with you.
Starting point is 00:39:11 Nah, I love it. Right to left, but, uh, go ahead. Right to left, not a right to left finish. Right to left midi. Aw, man, y'all telling the whole report. I don't know. They watch it, but they just can't stop it. They can't do nothing about it.
Starting point is 00:39:19 Nah, for sure. Most definitely. Listen, this season, obviously, going crazy, what's that like? Y'all got a hell of a squad up there. A lot of good girls. They watch that film, they just can't stop it. They can't do nothing about it. Nah, for sure. Most definitely. Listen, this season, obviously going crazy, what's that like, you know what I'm saying? Y'all got a hell of a squad up there. A lot of good guards, a lot of vets. Shout out to Skyler, a lot of oldies. They got a lot of oldies. O-G-E-W-E's and all.
Starting point is 00:39:35 What's that like? Obviously the Karate is there when y'all play, but what's it like in locker room, especially since y'all having a good push as of late as well? This has been like an amazing locker room and an amazing environment. Like all year everyone's been like just about the culture and investing in it. So obviously like everyone knows the energy that E-Weezy brings and everything. She iced us out, she got us all these, you know.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Oh my God. I'm so okay with that. Me and E-Weezy. We ain't getting money. We got to run them feet. That's our dog right here. That's they dog, we got to run them feet. E-Weezy ain't got to run them feet.
Starting point is 00:40:04 Nah, that's my dog. I love E-Weezy. Mind everybody's change. Ice them out That's they dog, we got a running beat. We ain't got a running beat. I love weenies. Mind everybody change. Ice them out. You get money, yeah. You probably watching up here for sure. That's dope. Her energy is always high. Always high.
Starting point is 00:40:14 She was our first W guest. For sure. Oh really? For sure. I always tell her she's always doing side quests. 1000%. Where you got this time to be doing all this? Always on my TikTok.
Starting point is 00:40:24 1000%. So you stay on the party floor. Yeah, oh yeah. They turn her scout reporter. I'll tell you. Shout out to you, we, man, good people. For sure, now listen, great season so far. What's going on, what you got going on this week?
Starting point is 00:40:40 Are you going crazy? First All-Star, you going to get them FGAs up? What should we look forward to seeing? For sure testing sure testing out that logo, the four-point shot. I'm going to test it out. I'm going to test it out, but I don't know. I'm just going with the flow, going with the vibe, seeing if it's like, if we're really hooping, are we hooping or what are we doing?
Starting point is 00:40:55 But I'm excited about it. All right, if y'all really hoop it, you're going to get out there and really lock up, though. You're really going to get out there and be trying to get out there. Playing defense in the All-Star game is crazy. No, I'm not going to. I'm showing up in those shoes. So everyone knows that I'm locking up. No, I'm kidding.
Starting point is 00:41:11 They thinking you about to commit felonies. You're gonna rob the locker room. But being most improved, like, obviously you on the, you know, you're in contention for most improved defensive player of the year. That means you play both sides of the ball. A lot of people, you know, they appraise you for your defense, but not a lot of people talk about your offense,
Starting point is 00:41:32 and you gotta let people know you're a bucket in this All-Star game. You gotta go for MVP. Oh, okay. I mean, why not? Give it a go. Why not? You out there? I was going to ask you again, because some people in the NBA or whatever,
Starting point is 00:41:46 they like to take that break, right? Because you said you play all year around. So, you know, All-Stars, that break, would you rather have set out and like chilled and like watched them? Nobody knows All-Star. No way. Absolutely not. No, I'm super excited. Starting point is 00:43:04 Yeah, execution plays. Yeah, you got to execute overseas. Where you playing at? I'll be playing in Fenerbahce, in Istanbul, Turkey. Okay. Yeah. I'm going to Turkey. Are you?

Starting point is 00:46:18 Well, it really depends on who you talk to. There are many versions of what happened in 1969 when a young Ted Kennedy drove a car into a pond.
