They're both. actually pretty hard to move around in. L.A. I would say is worse just because there's more people, but Miami has gotten a little crazy. I mean, when I, when I lived in Miami full time, it was a completely different city. I say she's grown up now a little bit. She's like in her out of college era, got her first big girl job. Like Miami was just a place you would go out and party huge clubs. There wasn't really like a sophisticated scene when I lived there, it's changed a lot. It's, but I feel like a lot of places

have changed. You still have like big mega clubs in Vegas and you still have 11 and live in Miami, but it's not really the scene anymore. I feel like people are more, more chill just in general in society. People want to be able to like talk to each other and, you know, you have

your time to like go pop bottles and act nuts, but it's changed a lot. L.A. is a very, actually, surprisingly, not sleepy city, but it's it's just like you go to long dinners there. I'm also older. So, like, maybe there is, and I just don't know about it. I love Miami.

I love Miami, too. Miami in like 2012, 2009 to 12, Weber to 15 mansion. When DJ Cal and first broke and break cross pre-bed. Yes, club bed. What a place. What a time. A vibe.

Watching the Steelers was a Dan Marino fan as well from Pitt. I went to Pitt. And just, you know, Pittsburgh is, it's kind of similar.

And it's a very sports-centered town. Everybody has to, you know, pay attention when the Steelers are playing, have football kind of as the center of everything. How you guys have basketball sort of at the center of everything. Like everyone plays football. Everyone's had peewee games, the high school games. And I just grew up with women who were very opinionated about sports. Like my aunts and my grandmother and my mother just my mom loves the cowboys.

I don't understand why or how that happened. She likes Emmett Smith. Queen. Yeah. Oh. Well, she is a queen. But the Cowboys thing is weird. And I played sports.

I played basketball. volleyball, soccer, ran track. Where you? Who? She participated. Actually. What sport did you do well?

Track was my best sport. Okay. I ran track from college. Soccer. I also got recruited for soccer, but you know, I stopped growing in seventh grade, so basketball was not going to be my thing.

But that's really how I fell in love with sports. Well, your brother started playing football as junior year?

Yeah, he actually got discovered by the high school coach. He was mowing a lawn because he played basketball and he thought he was going to play basketball. And he was mowing a lawn and the coach saw him, the head coach of the football team and was like, do you play football? And he was like, now I play basketball.

So I wanted to ask you, though, with being in this space, how do we be ourselves, be authentic without giving the people too much of our personal life? Like, how did you decipher that? I'm still figuring that out, honestly. especially because I've worked in sports my whole career.

So I'm talking about someone else. If you do a show about you, you have to talk about you. Exactly. And I'm a pretty private person. And I don't like everybody in my business, but that's not how that works. So what I try to do is just have things I know I'm not going to talk about. Or, you know, I've never been like a name person. I'll talk about experiences, but not ever say this was the person that this happened with.

But I think just remember that everything that you put out is forever. Right. So have boundaries that you feel comfortable with. And don't compromise them just for the cliques. For the cliques. Do you drink while you're potty? I don't. Okay.

So maybe we need to tone it back a little bit. Because once we get started, oh. It's tipsy time? Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I'm drinking on this show, so we'll see how I go. I'm drink on my show. I'm also shooting in the afternoon on like a Tuesday. So it's not really drink time.

And if I don't respect you, there's no way I can be with you. So if you're going to disrespect me, it doesn't matter how many clamps I put on you. You're going to do it anyway. So, I actually feel more comfortable with someone who's like, oh, you know,

so-and-so text me, happy birthday, whatever, like, or not even knowing. Like, it's like, okay, you're cool with that person. Thank you. Move on with your day. I'm not really like a territorial person because I can't, I can't deal with one percent of jealousy.

I can't deal with a man that's jealous. It's like, not only is it super unattractive to me, it just pisses me off. And I can't, I don't, I got like two modes, like cool. and absolutely not cool. I have no great area at all. And I just do too much

to deal with someone who's insecure at all. And I can't control someone texting me and I'm not about to be like, don't fucking text me, I got a man. I'm not doing all that. Every time you see that text, it's definitely text me. For sure.

Anytime they say that, don't text me, I got a man. That means text me later. He next to me. That's what I'm out of. He said next to me. I call you later. No, jealousy is overrun.

Everyone is very different. Everybody's different. I've realized over the past couple years, I don't know what's going on over here.

without you praying on them or wanting something from them or trying to sleep with them. So you have the capacity to see women as more than just sex or your family or someone that works for you. Oh, I thought she was talking like our cousins and shit.

No, I'm saying like, because they don't count that. Like, oh, I got girl cousins. I got sisters. Like, you're not ever trying to fuck your cousins or your sisters or your mom or your aunties. Like, that doesn't count. Of course you love them.

That's your family. Right. And then it'll be like, oh, well, my secretary are like, you know, so-and-so that works at the bank. Like, that's your co-worker. Yeah, Barb. Oh, Barb. Barbie. Okay.

I was like, yeah, like Barb that works with you at the bank. Those are your nose. I need to not look at that. That doesn't count. Like, those are, those have boundaries. I'm saying, like, you have a friend from high school that you're cool with that has seen you through different parts of your life. You respect her opinion.

And you're not trying to fuck her. Like, I think that's a good character trait. for a man to have. I want to know that he respects and cares about women. I want to know women feel safe around him. Like, not for nothing, but a lot of men, not all. Because I got a lot of girls. A lot of men are unsafe.

Like they don't treat women well. They're only trying to sleep with them. And also I've had some experiences with men who do not have any female friends whatsoever. They have no women around them that are nightmares. Like, they're kind of the worst. Scary spooky. They're scary spooky. Like, why can't you be around women without

So, you know, if you are, then that's what you want to do. I'll find out. I'll leave you. It's, you know, life goes on. But I do think, like, that whole, like, oh, I'm friends with them because I'm trying to get with them. Like, not for nothing. That's shit lames do.

I'm sorry. Like, I'm sorry if you're involved in that kind of situation. But, like, if you're a girl that has to pretend to be friends with a man to try and get with him, you're a lame. And if you're a man who's, you're a man who's. like just waiting around a woman to like get her to notice you, you're a lame. Like that's not in my blood. So I don't,

I can't relate. You've always seen when a niggas out there trying to wait it out. It was like, that's nasty. It's nasty. That's nasty. You're talking about a long game. It's nasty. So it's cool to have female friends, man.

There's nothing wrong with it. If you ain't touching them. And also, don't you just want some other perspective? Like I actually feel like I get great perspective on business, on moving around certain situations, on places I would, never be in because men are there on dating,

But I'm saying like I would never tell one of my female friends about my relationship. Oh, no, no, no, no, I totally agree. I don't, I don't think you should do that.

you shouldn't be talking to really nobody about your relationship. Like, you should have maybe one friend you've been to, and it got to be about light shit. Yeah. Like your marriage or a very serious relationship, you can't be, you know, bitching to your mom. You can't be talking to your friends. Like, it introduces.

I try to make Barbie like my home girl, but she gets bad advice. Yeah. She's like, I'm like, man, I've been thinking, man, I'm trying to get by this gift. She's like, go to all stars tonight. She don't want you to be great at all.

You've been a part of some legendary shows. first thing as first, being part of one of the best shows on TV for a long time period. What was that like, man, with Undisputed? Undisputed was, man, that was so long ago, it feels like. It's 10 years ago. It was a really great experience for me. It was my first network television show full-time. I had done some work with CBS in Miami.

But, you know, full-time, obviously. And it was a huge network launch. It was a big deal. because Skip had just left ESPN and Shannon obviously hadn't done that type of television before. So it was a big launch for the network so being a part of that was cool, just making

commercials, doing a whole rollout and the expectations that people had for the show because everyone was watching. Like everyone wanted to see how it would do, how would Skip do without Stephen A, what was Shannon going to be like? And, you know, we traveled a lot. We were all over the country, NBA finals,

Super Bowl, Mayweather, U.S. Open, so many different places and doing live shows of that magnitude with the live audience was just a crazy experience. And while I had done radio for years before that, it was a whole like another step up of doing live stuff and just the expectations from it. But it taught me a lot. I mean, Skip obviously notoriously has his quirks about him, not resetting his clocks. And, you know, he's just a very regimented person and had high expectations. of everyone, which really taught me how to be discipline. Yeah.

Because I was not going to be late. Like I was not going to be the trouble on that show. And it was intentional on my end to really be prepared, really work hard at the show, work hard at that position. And I've always found like in any new position doing the work first and getting, getting to like an expert level at your role, almost always. grants you the opportunity to expand. So I think sometimes, like, when we get an opportunity,

we think we're better than we are at it. Like, if you'd have told me at 22, like you'd have asked me if I could do that show, I'd be like, yeah, for sure. There's no fucking way. Like, you have the delirious confidence that you can do anything. And so you get there and you're like,

fuck, I do not have the skills for this. But if you do an excellent job at it, the people who are experts, then start to trust you. And they know that you're willing to, like, do the work to expand in it. Like, Skip wasn't sure that he wanted me for that role, because being a moderator is a very, very specific job. All the lights are on you, but you're not necessarily the voice.

But it's very important. Like, if you let the conversation go off the rails or you're not getting to break on time, and like, there's a lot of technical work that goes into that job. People screaming their ear and earpiece, you tell you to go to commercial and you try to get some people to stop talking. Wrap up. And then you got to, then you sound rude because you're cutting them off.

Like, you got to have their respect to know, like, hey, guys, we got to end it here. All that's like behind the scenes stuff. Yeah. That seems very easy. But, you know, you're dealing with big egos and people want to get the last word in. So there's a lot of dynamics that go into doing it. And Skip wasn't sure if I could do it because I was coming from the radio side where I'm doing four hours of morning drive radio on my own show.

Like, that's a lot of talking. That's a big voice to have. Yeah. To then move to that position where it's important, but you're not necessarily talking. And I told him, I was like, I know what this show will lead to, and I know, like, the opportunity that it is. So I'm going to do the job that is assigned to me. Like, I'm not going to force myself into the show. And when it feels right and when it works, I'll get my opportunity.

And that's how it grew. So that's how I've always treated those jobs. And it really worked out for me. It was a great experience. Man, you know how you have the game on with just a few friends over. It's really kind of background noise. Then, dang, something crazy happens. A big play or momentum shift that changes the whole stakes of the game.

I want to ask you this, obviously, someone's been in the field for a long time. You think shows like first take undisputed, a lot of people attribute those shows for ruining

sports media or player podcasts for ruining sports media. You think that's true or there's just been evolution of how things are conveyed and media is given to people now? I think it was an inevitable journey. Okay. So sports and news kind of follow along the same line. They're the last thing that we watch live. Like if there's some huge emergency in the city, yeah, you might go to social media to check it out, but you're probably going to check in with your local news

to see what's happening. If there's a big international event or something like, God forbid a terror attack or something, like you're going to the news and you want to get the live information. It's the same thing with sports. It's the last thing that we watch live. Everything else is on demand.

Everything else is on the internet. It's on our own time. And that shift happened in sports. At the same time, it happened in news because you used to have to be in front of news to get the news. You used to have to be in front of sports center to get the highlights. Once we were able to get them on the phone, the natural evolution of the consumer became, well, I want to know what people think about it now. And because news shows like Fox News and CNN were

exploded. Like, this was all happening really when I was in college. Not so long ago. A long time ago. It was a long time ago. It was a minute. It was a minute. It was a minute. It was a long time. No, but it's what I always wanted to be. It's about O-Fo. Yeah. I graduated high school at O-4. You did, so you've been out of college.

Oh, damn. 0-7. She'd been out of college about 18 years. This is all Googled. It was happening when I was in college. And I always wanted to be a personality, but it's why I went into radio. Because I wanted to get the skill set to be able to do the shows that I'm doing now. Yeah.

And long form, you know, talking was really only available. on radio at that time. These shows didn't exist. Podcasts didn't exist. But the point is, the consumer kind of created that. Like, you didn't have to watch sports anymore. You could get the highlight.

You could get the stats. You could get the reaction on your phone instantly. So now I want to know what people think. News was already doing it at a really high level. And that's where people were going. And they were getting outrageous ratings. So sports kind of mirroring the things that we watch live went in the same direction.

also I think that sports conversations have always been like this like this is how we have always sat around and talked about sports barbershop. Yes. So it just got translated to TV. And when it gets to the network level or the national level, you're going to talk about the Cowboys. You're going to talk about LeBron. You're going to talk about controversy. You're going to talk about the things that most people are talking about. And so I can't say that it ruined sports television.

I think sports television and television in general changed. This is a really long, and technical inside baseball answer. Not get this shit off. But I do think it's changed again. Like I think panel shows are what people want now. People want multiple perspectives. They don't necessarily want to see two people arguing across from each other.

Yeah. So I think it's changed again. No, we'll say. I agree with the podcast damn near is like the, I don't know. I just think of athletes more. of a voice to speak on what's real instead of like skipping Shannon

just going at it and just that is what it is. Yeah. I take that for it. And athletes have a perspective obviously that people who haven't played do not have. But you also need entertainment. You need fun. You need somebody to move the conversation around.

So I think it's just evolved. And I love the athletes are in the space now. It should never have been this crusty old media guy decides what someone's story is. That's a fact. Like, that's, that's bullshit. You know, I'll never forgive baseball. Barry Bonds is like, what are we talking about?
