Go ahead and click that subscribe button below so you don't miss a single episode of Nightcap. That button right here. Come for the sports. Stay for the story. Hey, y'all take me back, bro.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Take me back to 2009, 2000. When we were running through the ATL streets, T, what, what? Oh, man, that was the best time of my life, boy, I met your boys, man. Oh, man. Y'all changed my life. Boy, I was just a little green kid from Indiana. Boy, I ain't no nothing. I get on our house, boy, I ain't know nothing.
Starting point is 00:03:24 Hey. These boys got me by a challenger. All type of stuff. Man, I tell, hey, I tell the story. One night we got in, it had to be by two, three in the morning. And, uh, me, you and John. had a challenger and we was on the freeway racing. I'm the only one guy pulled over and y'all ass kept going.
Starting point is 00:03:42 I said, man, listen, I went on Porto because I don't want no problem. He let me go any damn way. So, you know, cool. But, hey, hey, there was some good times, bro. There was some good times. You know, I hate it. You know, it had to end the way it did.
Starting point is 00:03:56 But I always say it's the house that Dominique built. Hell, me, Josh, and T, we put a little stucco. You know, we put some new lighting, you know, some new side and in there. Trey came in and renovated that thing. You know what I'm talking about? I think Jalen Johnson got a chance to redo the whole thing, bro. I'm just going to keep it 100, bro.
Starting point is 00:04:14 I think this Hawks team is going to surprise a lot of people. Obviously, defensively, we can guard. We just got to be able to score and rebound. I just think the size. Like, as much as I like the Fleming's kid from Houston, I love him from point guard perspective. But we do need a little more beef down there, bro, to help them boys out.
Starting point is 00:04:35 because that's really what hurt us against the Knicks. I don't know. I've seen that they had a trade in for, like, people have been talking about Jared Allen. If we can get Jared Allen. Oh, man, I'll take that. What? Y'all think, hold on, hold on.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Y'all think Cleveland's going to get rid of it. Nah, I mean, they got to get out of that second apron, though. They're going to have to go some money around. Yeah, the facts, because they, they, they, they, they, uh, Jeff. Yeah, they got that one of the highest payrolls for sure. And Donovan McElrain, he ain't holding back on nobody. He just got that new incentive.
Starting point is 00:05:05 He didn't plan around. He said, I put a ring on. I just put a ring on it, too. I got to feel me. I got that. I got that again, bro. I need that. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Oh, yeah. Hey, the NBA has definitely, uh, the landscape of the league has changed, bro. You know, you look at from how the game is played now. It ain't, it ain't no post players no more. You know, you probably got three post players, for real, for real, M.B., Yolkich. Yeah, who else? So I said they copy the basement. It really ain't no postplayes.
Starting point is 00:05:39 It's not, bro. It's not. The game has changed, man. And, hey, the way they getting up and down the floor scoring these points, it's a guard heavy league. Boy, I wish I was just 10 years younger. Why didn't have a pass about you, niggas? I mean, you guys.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Hey, you know, I'm going to show a little different. My, my father. My show a little different, bro. My father. Hey, hey, hey, hey. You know, you know, timing was a little different. You know, you got thrust into that, but you held your own, bro. But yeah, we needed that, we needed that peak teed when y'all was out here running the Eastern Conference, running.
Starting point is 00:06:17 You know what I mean? Yeah, that's the one. That's the one. I ain't going to lie. I was too young, bro. I ain't going to lie. Y'all was already a season team, bro. Y'all, y'all just came off that playoff match up with Boston.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Y'all was already kind of heading towards the right way. Y'all needed Bidbee. Y'all needed Kurt Himer. I wasn't ready. but boy when we got D-Rowe I was like hey can't say with this young boy I can't say with it
Starting point is 00:06:41 but I can fake it hey you had to get on your horses boy man what it's it's a big difference I think the point guard spot bro I watch my guy Darius A Cuff play for the Sacramento you know you you're gonna have
Starting point is 00:06:55 your lumps and bruises at that position because that's the hardest position to come into the league and play because you're going to come in and you're going to have your two guard like Zach Levine, who's been in the league for quite some time. Now you've got to try to figure out how you can get yours off and how you get these other guys involved as well. It's similar to the quarterback and football.
Starting point is 00:07:15 You know what I mean? Like, you got to know how to distribute. You got to go through your read. You got to be able to pick stuff up a lot faster than a guy who's not a point guard or a quarterback. So that point guard position hard, bro, especially when you come in and you ain't played the whole first round tee. And then damn, you run into it.
Starting point is 00:07:33 You got to guard the MVP. Like, I get it, bro. I get it. I know that was challenging. It was challenging, but the hardest part is, like, realizing that y'all have grown in. Like, I just came from everybody 19, 18 on my college team. And I come to the team with y'all. Y'all are 28, 30, Mary got kids.
Starting point is 00:07:51 I'm trying to lead. I'm just trying to tell y'all what to do. Y'all like, hey, boy, swing it over here. I ain't worry about nothing they talk about. And, you know, I didn't know about contracts and all that stuff. As a young boy, you don't know none of that stuff. Hey, but that's why I heard you said before, that's why it's great to have ex-vets on your coaching staff.
Starting point is 00:08:14 You know, T, you had Nick Van Exa. When I was a rookie, I had Lester Connor. And they would tell you straight, they would tell you straight up, hey, look, bro, Lester Connor told me to say, hey, man, you need to be in the bed by noon, I mean, by 12 o'clock midnight. You know what I mean? You don't need to be out all night.
Starting point is 00:08:30 You need to eat this way. You need to eat that way. You need to get to the gym. If we got practice at 12 noon, you need to be there at 10 o'clock, getting your work in. By the time them dudes get there, the vets, hell, you didn't already work out twice.
Starting point is 00:08:43 You're just ready for practice. So it's little stuff like that, like even from him, because y'all know, hell, y'all played on the Lester Conner with me here in Atlanta. Man, listen, the man will call me to his house at night, bro, his wife will cook
Starting point is 00:08:55 and, like, you know, just teaching me certain things to eat. Oh, yeah, no, don't put too much, not too much mail. Not too much ketchup, you know. It's just little things like that that as a professional athlete, bro, you appreciate because, man, you come in, you be so green.
Starting point is 00:09:10 You don't know you're just so happy that you made it to the league. And you're like, I'm going to put on. I'm going to put on you. Man, listen, you got to fall in line, bro. You got to figure it out. That's the hardest part. That's the hardest part by being a pro.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Yeah, I understand. Yeah. I know that was tough for you, though, Josh. I was coming out of high school. I couldn't imagine, boy. Now, hold, hold on, hold on. Not just coming out of high school, but smooth, you got drafted to the hawks.
Starting point is 00:09:36 You're from here, bro. Yeah. Like, tell us, like, real talk. Tell us how that first year was. And then, because I know, I think y'all only won 13 games. Your rookie year. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:50 What they were hitting on, bro? What that was like, real talk. It was, boy, that was a hard time, boy, as a rookie. Because I, you know, you thinking, like, whatever situation you're stepping into, you're thinking like, this is, this has to be the scenario for everybody.
Starting point is 00:10:05 Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like, so I'm thinking like, every ownership, every, every team is, is getting treated like how we're getting treated. So I'm like, I'm just a dear head. Like, Antoine Walker. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:20 He was, he was probably the best, the coolest vet. But we had like Kenny Anderson. Yeah. Kevin Willis and stuff. Like, they used to get into it all the time. So then you had Al Harrington, but he still, he was like on his, he was like on his deal. So he really wasn't trying to, he really weren't, he really went messing with me like that. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:41 You in my way. I ain't got nothing to tell you. I'm like five. He's like six years, seven years in. He's like, man, I'm still in the league, bro. I ain't got nothing to tell you. Yeah. And so I used to kind of like lean on Antoine because like Kevin, like, Kevin Wilson.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Like, Kevin Willis just wanted to give me, like, the rookie experience, but he never wanted to do nothing. Like, I remember, I had, I was coming in with a nasty number from number 42. I was coming to that for that. I was coming to that. I was coming to that. You number. That shit was nasty as hell that I think about it.
Starting point is 00:11:15 But they was like, we're going to sign Kevin Willis. Can you, can you, can you charge jerse? I'm like, I, I just pick five. I like, man, just give me five. It was for, like, no reason. I just threw a number out there. Yeah. So that's how it worked.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Then when he came in, they was like, people were telling me how, oh, man, they go, you know, the veterans show love when you get your jersey up. They're going to give you somebody. You know, they're going to miss that the third. I'm like, oh, all right, good. I'm bad.
Starting point is 00:11:43 I'm rubbing my hands together. You know what I be? I see him. What up, young fellow? He comes and Joe just messing with me the whole time. I'm in there. I'm like, all right, bro. I guess I'm getting the Ricky Hayes of him.
Starting point is 00:11:55 So I used to stay connected to Antoine. whenever the chance I got, he was showing kind of everything, though, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was a real one, though, for sure. Yeah, now, listen, you know, Twan and Kenny Anderson,
Starting point is 00:12:10 smooth, you know, they were my best one. I was a rookie in Boston. See, that's what I'm saying. See, these kids, they don't have, they, they threw, it's like training day with them type nigs, you know what I'm saying? Oh, man, you're talking.
Starting point is 00:12:22 Hey, hey, hey, hold up, T, did you have to carry the backpack when you was looking? Nah, y'all know y'all popcorn my car. Y'all did all that stuff to me, man. Yeah, because he didn't want to carry the backpack. He didn't want to carry the backpack. That's why he had. He didn't want to carry the backpack.
Starting point is 00:12:39 You know what I carried? I carried the backpack. You know what I said? Swank is to have dust in that, Jack. Hey, I know that feeling, boy, because I had two other rookies with me, Joe Forte and Keogh Brown. Yeah, and we all had to carry backpacks.
Starting point is 00:12:53 Not only backpackers, we had to get coffee in the morning, Don't. I'm talking about these dudes wasn't even eating this stuff, drinking none of this stuff. Oh, I know. Oh, trust me. I know. Oh, I know. Oh, you had to make a few store run. I had to get crispy cream every morning. I left them in my locker. I put them at the top.
Starting point is 00:13:14 They was green. I remember smooth. I opened one up. They was green because I just kept recycling them. I'm like, they don't even eat them. We had some hell of a time, bro. Hey, I think about those times. you know, it was always something going on. I always tell people, bro, I say, listen,
Starting point is 00:13:33 yeah, they always talk about, man, why the Atlanta Hawks ain't never won no championship? Said, yeah, man, it's something going on every damn night. Soon we leave the arena. Listen, we go right up the street, hit Lucky Loud. We probably go to the comedy spot. Before we hit the spot, it might be a concert.
Starting point is 00:13:51 It might be a concert one night. Somebody may have a big party. Man, shit, what was something going on. It was something jumping in. We were going to fall in a drug. but it's time, two of the owners was trying to go low budget on the coaches, too. What'd you say? It was like, take the, who got this one point?
Starting point is 00:14:04 It's one point five high. Hey, they folks ain't give us a chance on that end. We're, we were blessed new coaches and stuff, now. Guys had their first coaches' careers off the ladder hawks, now. Don't do that. We had no populous. I remember one time we went out, man. I knew the schedule to go out
Starting point is 00:14:29 because y'all know I wasn't playing so I knew who to go with on Wednesday who was going to... Joe ain't answering that phone after the game. Joe answering that phone. No, you know he didn't answer the phone. He's going to tell you where he's going. He's not answering that phone.
Starting point is 00:14:41 He'd be like, just meet me there. He ain't going to answer the phone. He's going to tell you, he's going to tell you, we're going to do this net right after the game and then don't answer that thing. Hey, don't do that. Because we used to get there. You used to get there.
Starting point is 00:14:54 I used to get there. I just just wait by the door. Yeah, because I know. because he told me where to go now. If it was, if it was something going on, damn it, we was there. I'm talking about we was there. You hear me? I don't care what it was.
Starting point is 00:15:05 We went to the club at 10. We opened the club up and listened to No Hands for two hours. Hey, hold on. We had just left like a concert or something. Yeah, we were the first one in the spot. That Roscoe dash, come on, that no hands, boy. We were, hey. We was in there for two hours before somebody got in there.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Oh, yeah. You had a time, man. Oh, yeah. Hey, T, but before you got to the A, bro, we were lean with it, rock with it. We were doing all that in a spot. I'm mad. I wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:15:35 I hadn't hurt. I remember they tried to send me to the G League one day. Y'all was going to Miami. Y'all was like, boy, you got to go to the G League? I was like, yeah, he was like, dang, well, we're going to Miami. I was like, I beg Rick Sun. I was like, please. I was like, please, man.
Starting point is 00:15:54 I don't think I would get better down there. Hey, after that, they said it's time out for the foolery. They went and hired that, hired that other man, and he came in, he started with me. You got me up out of here, got Marv up out of here. Next thing you got to know, things weren't the same. It wasn't the same at all, boy. It wasn't the same. Y'all was ready to get on up out of here.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Hey, smooth, hold on. So when you went to Detroit, tell me something, because you want to, over there and you played the three and you have been playing pretty much the four with us. I'm saying that's what they was telling you before you came over there? Oh man, when I signed the contract, they were like, boom, you're going to play the three. I'm like, huh?
Starting point is 00:16:38 I'm like, no. Like, no, brother, let me, you know what I mean? I've been playing the four for nine years. Like, I don't got to custom to that position. Like, just bring one of us up. Like, if you just sign me, just bring Greg or drumming off the bench, one of them, you know what I'm saying? Because
Starting point is 00:16:53 both of them kind of similar games. they just, you know, well, drum is, I mean, Greg was more of a post-up player, but, like, as far as, like, just down low scoring, like, they were more, like, down there in the paint. I was, like, more perimeter base, and I could be more versatile, like, guarding people. So I'm like, just, they're like,
Starting point is 00:17:13 nah, we're going to play all three of y'all together. I'm like, man, this is somebody getting fired, bro. It's like somebody. It's not going to work, bro. It's not going to work. So I got the weight down. And, you know, I start figuring out the position probably like a month into the season because, you know,
Starting point is 00:17:31 it's a different position playing the three from the four. Yeah, yeah. He was chasing guys around screens and running through pick and roads. Hey, that's the scores position, the two, three in the league. Man, Paul George cooked me, bro, the first game season. But he's talking he just got the 90 ball. He was like, yeah, that's why y'all gave me the 90. He, it ain't nothing I can do, though.
Starting point is 00:17:55 You know what I'm fighting through screens, contesting. But I was so mad, brother. The next time we played him, I woke his ass out, though. I was like, boy, I got paid to you, bro. Like, they just had to be bad, bro. I had marked the calendar. I'm like, bro, wait until we play in the end again. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:12 He just got paid, man. He went slap off. When y'all boys left, man, it wasn't the same, dog. Hey, it was. But it was a little better for you, though. I see you went ham out there. Yeah, I got the ball. It was a little different.
Starting point is 00:18:30 But it was, we ain't go out. Like, I was, I was still trying, I was still trying to hold on to the memories, bro. I'm going out by myself. I've been invited people, ain't nobody showing up. It was just different, bro. I can imagine, bro. But listen, y'all brought some,
Starting point is 00:18:47 y'all brought some love to the city, bro. What y'all made, Jeff, to the Eastern Conference? Yeah, we went out. Oh, yeah. Y'all playing against a club. Cleveland team with Braun, Kairee. You guys do it twice? Yeah. No, we went once, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:00 We got swept, though, so. Damn. Hey, when y'all be shooting that, T? Where y'all be shooting the 520 at? We got a studio. In where? In Indianapolis. Oh, yeah?
Starting point is 00:19:12 Yeah, why are you going to come to the studio, man? Yeah, man, I'll pull up on y'all, bro. We got coming town. We used to shoot at my crib. I don't shoot there no more. I'm smooth. Came to the crib. Hey, I'll come there, man.
Starting point is 00:19:24 I do some yoga with y'all, man. Y'all come do some yoga with me. Yeah, matter of fact, last time, yeah. I need to pull up. I'm glad you said that. Hold on, smooth last time we came to the letter. We came for Joe. Yeah, remember that?
Starting point is 00:19:36 That's why that's right. Man, we, hey. You know, I had to serve me in. He didn't talk. We didn't talk about this and got over this already, though. We didn't talk about it and got over. We went up to the ISO yoga spot looking for him. He would have like, he might be here.
Starting point is 00:19:54 doing yoga, bro. We're going to pull up, man. Hey, hey, listen, listen. No. Y'all got a good yoga studio I like out there in Indiana, bro. I'm going to pull up on y'all for real. I come out there, man, and, you know, come out there and bless the studio, man, see what y'all got going on.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Please do, bro. I do yoga. I'm never done it before. Behind every night spent making the kids' lunches, there's a lot of suspense. Will they finally eat the veggies? Will the pesto survive the first bite? Will the lunchbox come home empty, have full or come home at all. And will you finish episode 8 before you're done slicing the cucumbers? What's up fam? I'm sports journalist Ari Chambers. Hey, what's up y'all? It's your girl, Sam J. And we're the host of Everyone Watches Women's Sports, a new podcast from Together and I Heart Women's Sports. Because let's be real. Women's sports is giving us way too much to talk about these days.
Starting point is 00:20:58 So Kelsey Finler, she became the first female solo rower to go from California to Hawaii. My first thought is, like, what's up with the snacks? Like, what are we eating? The highlights, the rivalries, the breakout stars, the moments that take over your entire timeline. And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week. Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women's sports. Naomi Osaka showing out, she's. Beat. Sabalinka. Shout out to you, Naomi. You get the palm, Naomi. You get the palm for that.
Starting point is 00:21:29 Because we're not just interested in what happened. We're interested in why everyone's talking about it. Because everyone watches women's sports. Listen to everyone watches women's sports on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, Portlandia fans. Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here. You know us or rather you know them. Tony and Candice, Nina and Lance, Spike and yes, the chicken. We've played a lot of iconic characters over the years. But today, we're showing up as ourselves to tell you about Podlandia AEO rewatch, our brand new podcast. Each week, we'll revisit an episode of Portlandia from the very beginning, breaking down the
Starting point is 00:22:06 sketches, exploring the backstories of our most iconic characters, revisiting the Portland locations you know and love, and opening up about our creative process. How did any of this get made? Why do we think that was a good idea? We're ready to talk about it. And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life, guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Chrysall, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more. Kyle is going for it here. You fully improvised, not just words, but a song, a melody.
Starting point is 00:22:38 Well, I thought he was going to write. I thought you were all going to write a song. I remember you thinking that. Listen to Podlandia. Ayo, rewatch on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, this is Hayes Davenport. And Sean Clements. We host the podcast Hollywood Handbook. Every episode we're trying to help our guests improve their careers by mainly focusing on how they can help us improve our careers.
Starting point is 00:23:03 The show is famously super accessible so you can easily jump into any of our 650 episodes and understand what's going on. We recommend some of our recent episodes with Ben Stiller. The definition of what is a movie has kind of changed anywhere too, right? What do you think it is now? It's images and words being spoken, captured by some sort of technology. Danny McBride. He loves over. Oh, that's fantastic.

Starting point is 00:28:48 you really had a chance, bro, to make it to the league? I'm saying, like, that was the plan the entire time. I was just trying to play basketball.
Starting point is 00:28:57 You know what I mean? I'm saying even like in junior high and all that? I didn't know. I had no idea. You know what I'm saying? You didn't, now you,
Starting point is 00:29:04 now you get, older, you'd be like, okay, I see why my dad did this. Like, he quit his job. When I was in high school, he was at home a little more. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, he knew. Like, now I know, like, man, shit, I got to stay close to this little, you know, this little niggas.

Because I still was thinking about going to college. I was talking about going to Indiana and all that. He was like, bro, we ain't doing that. We ain't doing nothing. Hey.
Starting point is 00:29:37 Hey, hey, I love Pete. Boy, hey, we might have to get old school on. We might have to get Pete on. Hey, that's real Atlanta right there, I don't know if you remember me at John David, bro. Hey. He played, he from Albany, but, you know, we was over there Ben Hill.
Starting point is 00:29:53 You know what I'm saying? He played from Ben Hill. That's why. Oh, on that west side? That west side? Yeah, that's why I started playing, you know what I'm saying, basketball at over there at Ben Hill.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Why you got good, good. Yeah, yeah, man, started with, where really, yeah, with the real pros happening at. Yeah, it's going to be in with it really. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. That's how you learn how to play, bro. You know how you put the little, the court together?
Starting point is 00:30:24 Yes, sir. They had that back in the day. You know what I'm talking about? Hey, hey, but that's how you learned, bro, when we was kids, bro. We just played. You know, we just played the game. DC, what you played coming up, bro? You know what?
Starting point is 00:30:37 I played baseball all way to the end. That's how I know I'm real good at that. I played everything. Baseball, football, basketball, but baseball for show, for show. I know. I talk a lot of shit about everything else, but baseball for sure.
Starting point is 00:30:53 I can back that up all day every day. Yeah. Smoke, you played in other sports? No, straight basketball. I tried to throw the helmet on my dad with not playing. Ooh, he wasn't going to. for it. Build of school, I was like, I want to play football.
Starting point is 00:31:08 He's like, but hell no. So I was like, he went on the road because he drove trucks. I had slides slid over there to my mama. Ma got there signed me up. So when he came home, when he came home, he seen the pads on the ground
Starting point is 00:31:19 where he gave it to me, boy, because my schoolbound. No. He's like, he's like, he ain't brown, and ain't buy your dumb ass no cleats.
Starting point is 00:31:27 You got to play on my wife, call and talking to him. I don't go, but he was a hot, boy. He was hot, boy. He was hot, man. He was not. I was out there slipping and sliping
Starting point is 00:31:35 sliding. I'm like, but I was like, man. I ain't playing no more, man. I don't know. Oh, yeah, I already know what he didn't play? Hey, hey, hey, speaking of football, speaking of football, what's up? Y'all, Falcons fans, what's up? Absolutely. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:51 Keep it a bean, keep it, being. I got to take a drink. I'm a pain free, bro. I'm a pain free. Oh, he's going to tell a lie if he got to take a drink. I need to take me a drink, too, bro. What's up? What's going on, Smoo? We pain freaks, bro.
Starting point is 00:32:07 I mean, I'm in the land of everything, Braves. That's what I'm saying. I'm in a lot of everything. You know what I'm saying? They owe me, man. They owe me, too. They owe me a couple of times. They owe me from that situation.
Starting point is 00:32:20 What? They owe me from that too. We haven't even recovered from that. No, no. I'm talking, even if, no. That was the one, brother. He had the city of so much on fire, brother. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:32:31 I don't think people, listen to me. I ain't seen a lot of people. people play. I ain't never seen it like that. I didn't really get a chance to see Jordan play. I saw AI at the end. Bro, we didn't even have TV like that. But my phone won't even watch a shit. You feel me? We weren't going on no games, bro. I actually got a chance to see it. I used to hear stories. I used to, we used to sit down and watch this nigga as a family. I'm in high school. I'm in high school. It was the greatest thing we ever had, bro. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:02 Man. I ain't seen none like it. Yeah. You see me? Hey, listen. We needed that. Man, listen. You know,
Starting point is 00:33:13 28 to 3, 2, man, I was in China. I ain't got over. I ain't got over. I ain't got over. I don't know exactly where I was, boy, that was, that was crazy, bro.
Starting point is 00:33:21 I remember it, too. Let me break. Let me tell you something. Let me break it down for you. I was talking so much shit. Ooh. Let me tell you something. This is why I'm so mad,
Starting point is 00:33:31 bro, because them nigger could could have walked my ass in there, bro. The niggins were like, fall in D. I'm in there saying. Boy, you know me. It's 80.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Yeah. It's all that. And we're playing the Patriot. I'm going to all that. It's three of 283. Nigel, I'm talking so much cash money. I'm like, you know what? I'm going to go take a smoke break.
Starting point is 00:33:54 I'm chilling. We won this. Yeah. By third quarter, my energy chain. By full. I remember this shit like yesterday. We done transferred to go watch the game.
Starting point is 00:34:09 Now I'm at a whole other nigger house, but I'm glued to the TV though, yeah. I'm like, we down. It's four minutes now. Listen, when he talked the ball on his helmet, my heart started being fast. Listen, because I knew something was up. I said, I know they're not about to do this shit.
Starting point is 00:34:32 I know they're not about to do this. man, them folks scored again game. And the score was still 28. Those folk came all the way back from three points. All we had to do was score one 10 down. And we stopped doing everything we were doing in the first quarter. That's why I love the foul here. But y'all ripped my heart out my chair then, boy.
Starting point is 00:34:55 Oh, man. Hey, hey, y'all know. I know, man. Hey, I apologize, bro. because they built their Mercedes that beautiful stadium right after that thinking they were going to make it right back. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:35:07 I ain't trying to rub it in on y'all. I'm just saying, bro. I like going to the game. Hold on. What are you, though? Can I ask you? I'm a cowboy fan. I ain't going to lie to y'all.
Starting point is 00:35:17 I'm a cowboy fan. Hey, you're a cowboy fan for it. See how you get these TV. Listen, D. Hey, I'm from, I'm from a cowboy. Cowboy. I'm from Little Rock, bro, so, you know, hey, man. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:35:37 The closest thing, two of the Dallas, bro. I've been a cowboy fan. I was born in it. You know what I was in? I was saying. I was born in a man. So listen, I don't know if we play the falcon this year, but if we do, man, me, you and smook and, you know, put a little something on it, you know.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Oh, absolutely. I don't, you know, I don't mind. Oh, you're talking about on the falcons? Yeah, you're going to be. I know you're going to bet. You got to get our quarterback situation. They're going to be. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:36:08 You don't think they're going Oh, man. Jay, why you keep doing it? Why y'all keep doing it? Hold on. They're going to be. Same conversation every year. Do you think we know?
Starting point is 00:36:24 No. Hold up. I'm going to tell you when I'm telling you, what we're going to have to do is, first of all, we got to stop. I don't know. What's our quarterback status now? That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Starting point is 00:36:38 Previous. Oh, yes, sir. We are giving guaranteed money to injured players who was already injured injured coming off the injury list. Let me tell you something. We ain't had a quarterback to finish a season. So let that sink in. Tell them how you feel.
Starting point is 00:36:58 And he got guaranteed money. Amen. So who money is that? I'm not. and keep doing that. I'm going to go watch these hoax. And y'all going to have to tell me about a link. Hey, hey, hold on, hold on.
Starting point is 00:37:13 Speaking of that, hey, we got a video I want to show, man. You jumped out with a trampoline at, uh... Come on, baby. Come on, babe. Good right there, but this is the... Hold on. Here we go. Hey, y'all check D.C. right here.
Starting point is 00:37:28 Yee! Hey! Hey! I missed the first, man. How in time. Hey, D.C., tell the truth. It's a lot harder than what people think, though, ain't it?
Starting point is 00:37:38 Hey, people don't understand. First of all, you, you, you, it's a lot of pressure. It's pressing. People watch it. People act like they ain't watching, but they watch it. You're almost 15, 20 feet away from the goal, bro. You hear me?
Starting point is 00:37:51 You ain't no, so when them bar be doing them flips, you got to respect that, you feel me? I miss the first one. I had the time, but once I got it, oh, I was up. Yeah, yeah. Hey, when y'all think about those times, you know, be it before.
Starting point is 00:38:07 Well, we traded for you to come to the Hawks, bro. You know, me being a huge fan of your game, obviously, Arizona, and everything that you did in Sacramento, when you think about those Sacramento teams that you played on, bro, early in your career, what you think made those teams so special? I mean, obviously, the chemistry y'all had and, you know, your high IQ for the game, the way y'all passed the ball, the way y'all made the game easier for one another.
Starting point is 00:38:33 What do you think? What was so special about those kings? liked each other. You know what I mean? So that's why I tried to bring when I came to Atlanta. Like, even like we'd gamble on the plane, you know, we'll fuck around on the plane.
Starting point is 00:38:47 We'll, you know, go to dinner and stuff like that. I just wanted to make sure everybody would hang out with each other and really liked each other. You know, like us going to the mall. Like, come on, everybody put your shit down. Let's go to the mall. We go hang out.
Starting point is 00:38:58 Everybody just shoot the shit in a little bit. But that was the thing. Like, we competed, though. Like, when practice, that second squad that we used to have, like Scott Pollard, Bobby Jackson, Hito Turkleude. They used to beat our ass in practice.
Starting point is 00:39:13 You know what I mean? And so that used to get us ready as far as like, okay, shit, we know that like once, if we don't start that good with Howard plays, we knew where was the alpha dog on the team. We just knew coming in, like we just had to make sure we show up when he needed us. Yeah, hey, man, it was fun watching you guys.
Starting point is 00:39:32 It was fun playing against y'all. I never forget, bro. I mean, from C. Webb to Vladi Dvots to Doug Christie, those guys were hell of a passers and IQ through the roof. And then you add you to that mix, bro. Y'all was just a hell of a team. Think about those legendary kings versus Lakers battles. Tell us a little bit about those battles, bro.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Knowing what we know now, you know, no, you know what I'm saying, smooth, knowing the history of the game, y'all may have been robbed a little bit. A little bit. Do you honestly, hold, hold on, hold on. Do you honestly think it was real? Hell, yeah. You seen that shit? Man, look, that's a whole,
Starting point is 00:40:11 that could change my whole, that could have changed my whole career. You know, I was rolling at that point. Now, what if it looks like if I get, if we go to the finals, I get finals and I get finals an MVP, that's going to look a whole, a whole lot better on my resume
Starting point is 00:40:24 than the shit I got now. Oh, no, listen, Bib, I ain't going to lie to you. Y'all, y'all probably should have had one boy. Y'all ain't, no, no, no, no, because y'all had a whip. y'all had a whip. I'm talking about, man, listen, I didn't think, I didn't think nobody could beat that Lakers, Kobe and Shaq, but, bro, when I tell you, y'all push him to the brink, obviously, under certain circumstances, maybe y'all would have wanted. But, man, that was a pleasure to watch, you know what I mean? Because I was a young, but I was just coming into the league in, in, oh, one, bro. You know, that was everything to me to see great, great basketball like that played at the highest level. Just to be a part of that. I think Shaq's the biggest, the best big man that ever played a game, you know, Cobb.
Starting point is 00:41:05 is top two for me. Just to be in those battles and going to L.A. and seeing all those movie stars and the guys that you look up to, you know, in the movies coming and cheering against you, knowing we had them beat. I mean, I couldn't ask for nothing else, man. But, like, I'm going to pump you guys up a little bit, too.
Starting point is 00:41:22 You know what I mean? Coming to you guys, I mean, it was probably the easiest games that I have had to play. You know what I mean? They always talked about my defense, how bad my defense was, but shit, I didn't have to be good. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:41:34 I got smooth back there. You know what I mean? So that blocked out a lot of stuff and like, and send screens for you, Joe, a lot of these guys, a lot of these point guards, I said the best,
Starting point is 00:41:44 I thought I used to set the best screens. Oh, hold up, Bibby, baby, baby, hold up, I've never in life, even playing with Nash,
Starting point is 00:41:52 Marbury, Kenny Anderson. I play with some grace. Boy, ain't nobody said no screen. How you said a screen. You hear me? That boy ain't nothing but chest over there.
Starting point is 00:41:59 Boy, do what's smooth? What's wrong with the boy? Oh, shit. All shit. all chair. He don't do number of bitch press when he go in the gym.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Now, he in the way room, ain't gonna lie. I feel like a corner bag. Hey, hey, he in the wait room and that boy gonna sit a mean screen, I ain't gonna lie to you. That's it, but that shit, no one never wanted to switch.
Starting point is 00:42:21 You know what I mean? I always had a little guy on me, so I set a screen and he was not, he did not want none of you, Joe, and he would, Joe had a wide open jump shot. And whatever, I mean, even was smooth.
Starting point is 00:42:32 So, I mean, like, even playing with you guys, man, it kind of changed my game to it was like, you know, I looked up and, like, Atlanta was, like, Atlanta and Sacramento is the two best places that I've been, the two best teams that I've played on. You know, like, I still talk to you guys. I still, you know, talk to Jamal when I see him. I saw A.C. Law a couple weekends ago. Hold on, hold on.
Starting point is 00:42:50 That's saying a lot, bro. You play, you play with the heat with DeWay and Brun. You went to New York. Look, man. You giving us love like that, bro? I mean, that's the, I mean, being there and being with you guys, like, the most fun I have, like, as far as being on the court. and playing basketball.
Starting point is 00:43:05 Like, that's the way I wanted to play. I got out, I was just all fast break. I mean, you can look at the highlights of me and Smooth. I was throwing that bitch from anywhere. I just took it and just throw that shit up. I know he's going to get it. Like playing with you, Joe, just know a guy that's going to get it. And all I had to do is go find an open spot because they're going to double team you.
Starting point is 00:43:25 You know what I mean? And I was like, shit, I just got knocked down the shots. I wanted to say, I remember, Samud, remember that bet we had, remember you guys that said, smooth, not to shoot, 10 threes all season, remember? Yeah, yeah. We were just talking about that with Jeff the other day.
Starting point is 00:43:38 Yeah, yeah. I think I shot about the six of, remember I was supposed to be an all-star game? Yeah, you should have been an all-star game. He was like, that wasn't the three. I didn't shoot the three. I said, smooth.
Starting point is 00:43:48 I ain't keeping stats. He don't see the speed after day. He's like, like, I didn't shoot no three. He didn't shoot no three. We had the, we had the most fun of that, man, being there, being with you guys. And like, Joe, I'm the only one that could stop you. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:44:03 remember if you remember. Oh, man. Hold on, hold on. So right before the game, right before the buzzer by the sign, starting line up probably by the last five to six minutes, me and Beah play one-on-one. Every game, we used to play one-on-one before. Hey, Joe, hold on sake.
Starting point is 00:44:16 My son just came in here, look. Hey, what's up, bro? Man, I remember, hey, hey, I remember you were a legit. You're going, bro. How are you doing, man? Y'all good. Hey, we're good, man. Good to see you, bro.
Starting point is 00:44:32 keep doing your thing. I know you out there. I appreciate that man. Y'all. Good to see y'all. Yes, sir. Good to see you. So go tell our story, Joe. I used to lock. I'm the only person that can lock you up. So, so me and Bibb, you just play one-on-one before every game, bro. And it's like, you know, good, good, honest defense. He claimed he thinks he don't know why he used to lock me up. But we should have some good battles, though, Bibb.
Starting point is 00:44:53 Hey, hey, because you know what? That she used to give me going before the game. You know what I mean? It gets your juices floored. You couldn't block shots, though. You couldn't. You couldn't, the rule was you couldn't block the shots and you couldn't do anything.
Starting point is 00:45:04 I used to hit him in his top of his head. And we just played in the, remember with the big three? I was fucking. Okay, I was like, let me guard him. I can garden. I'm over there grabbing his arm and catching him and pulling his head, man. Hey, hey, hey, chat, he's talking about when we play in the big three
Starting point is 00:45:19 and he was playing with the ghost ball and talking about let him guard me. Hey, hey, hey, smooth. Hey, I were handing out buckets like they were skilled or what I, man. You have something. You have something. He was killing him about that. I'm the only one next stopper, man.
Starting point is 00:45:35 He's the next stopper. Hey, hey, listen. Hey, we had a hell of a time here, bro. Look, you know, Bill, before we got, before we traded for you, we wasn't in the playoffs yet yet. We end up making the AC with you and we end up playing against the Boston Celtics.
Starting point is 00:45:50 And we all know how that historic series. We couldn't, we weren't competing worth of damn in Boston, but in Atlanta, but that ass couldn't. Boy, that ass couldn't get no dub over here. You hear me? At least we had home now. Hey, hold on, smooth.
Starting point is 00:46:06 Smooth. Bibb, no lie. I've never in my life seeing Atlanta rocking like that, bro. Me neither, man. Me neither. And they'd had some good teams. Trade them took them to the Eastern Conference finals. I ain't never seen that building jumping like that.
Starting point is 00:46:21 We had the highlight factory moving, man. Man. Have some good times, man. Hey. Oh, it was definitely, definitely. Y'all pay Mo, yeah. Oh, man, come on, bro. Come on.
Starting point is 00:46:37 I'm the only one that pay Mo. I'm crazy. Hey, you got to chill. Hey, you got to get my money back from Mo. Hey, you got to chill. Hey, hey, we got to send one prayer up, bro, for a good friend. I, man, Big J. I know we had some great times of Big Jay.
Starting point is 00:46:56 We had some great fun times. We all used to go ahead, smooth, say it again. I said, all right, be to the big fella. Big R&B. Oh, man. Oh, man, we used to have some great times. I tell cats all the time how he used to play cars with us, too. Me, it used to be me, Bib, Josh, and Big J.
Starting point is 00:47:12 And we cranking jokes on each other and everything. And if I had a little shit and dig at the crib, Big J was the first one to show up, bro. So I actually, not accidentally, but I ran into him at Atlanta Hawks game last season, bro. I don't know if he had already got diagnosed, but, you know, he didn't say nothing about it. And me and him sat there and chopped it up for probably about 10 minutes.
Starting point is 00:47:34 It was a game. I can't remember what game it was. And I hadn't seen him since, bro. And then when I heard the news, I was like, damn. And it took me back to all those memories we had on the plane, the bus rides. Because at the end of the day, y'all know, bro, once we stop playing professional, that's the one thing that you really missed. That camaraderie that you have with a cat, me, Josh, Josh, you know,
Starting point is 00:47:55 where we're talking on the plane, the bus playing, and it just made me think back how, man, life is short, bro. But Big Jay was a great dude. He was a great deal. Real quiet, but who gave him the name Big RV? I think you did. You gave everybody a nickname, bro. Hey, Smooth.
Starting point is 00:48:13 Then you say he was a bad influence, bro. Bad influence, man, man. Alligator hands. Remember he, Big Jay said he said that lotion on. You was getting on his head and skin. Yeah, he had to grab me cars like that, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They were so dry.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Hey, hey, hey. They were so crazy. Hey, there was days, bro. Yeah, we had some fun, man. That's one of the best times I had, man. Like I said, like, no matter what team I play, but I put with you guys in Sacramento up there, man. It was just fun times.
Starting point is 00:48:49 It was basketball. You know what I mean? Like when I went to New York, that shit, my career was old, man. I didn't want to. I ain't going to lie to you. I was done playing. Woody was like,
Starting point is 00:48:59 Mike, come play one more seat. I'm like, Woody, I'm done, man. He's like, just come play. I said, Woody, I am done. So, like, when I got there, I had no intention to play no games. I'm not going to lie to you. So when I got there, I was like,
Starting point is 00:49:13 man, I'm working out. Okay, you know, I'm going to try. I was out there trying, but I just didn't have it in me no more. I thought like in the games, Woody would be like, you want to play today? I was like, nah, Woody, I'm cool. Just leave me over here.
Starting point is 00:49:24 Don't feel like you need to play me, Woody. I worked out already. Then, you know, be some games, like four minutes left. Like, you're going to play, yeah, foot me, and let me go ahead and just run a little bit. So, I mean, I was done already, but, I mean, it wasn't the same as, um, with you guys and come there. Like, going to you guys, I felt, I felt like I felt like I had a little bit left in the tank.
Starting point is 00:49:42 You know what I mean? Come in there and just playing it. Okay, I'm the older guy on the team. Let me try to see if I could rejuvenate these guys and, you know, give them to play. And we kind of gotten a fast-paced play. And we just played, I mean, and it showed, like, it showed, um, just the talents that you.
Starting point is 00:49:56 guys had and for me to be like an old wheel to come in and just trying to push you guys alone you know made my time like so that was one of the best times of my career being in the line with y'all yeah hey we appreciate that bro we had a great time not not only just playing on the court but off the court as well life was great behind every night spent making the kids lunches there's a lot of suspense will they finally eat the veggies will the pesto survive the first bite will the lunchbox come home empty, half full, or come home at all. NBA players, Achilles tendon tears are linked to small spikes in playing time, study finds. A recent study found that players log more minutes than their season averages during the 10 to 15 games before the Achilles tendon rupture.
Starting point is 00:55:32 What do you guys think about? Achilles tears, smooth you tore your Achilles. the big three. Hold on before you get to your story. Jeremy, he tore his Achilles and the big three. Guess who had to wheel him through the airport? Yeah. Look, like, look how God worked.
Starting point is 00:55:48 Look, I see, I come to the airport. I see Smooth. He's struggling and buckling. He's in a wheelchair. I'm like, damn, what going on? I said, come on, man. Let me get that man rolling, man. Hey, hey, smooth.
Starting point is 00:56:00 Tell us, man. Tell us about that Achilles tendon, bro. It's nothing to play with, man. It's no joke. I'm saying Did you feel Before you tour it Did you feel anything
Starting point is 00:56:12 Like did you feel it getting weak Did you have any problems A week prior? It just, it was normal No, I didn't I mean, I think I think when I dunked the ball Because I haven't did it in the long time
Starting point is 00:56:23 I think it probably put my body in the shot You know what I'm saying? You know what I mean? Like, kind of like, you know When I was playing the big three I already had my mind made up on how I was going to play it I was going to I wasn't trying to go 100%
Starting point is 00:56:37 you already know it's a great league but you know you don't want to go out like you don't want to blow a tire like that in that type of environment you know what I'm saying I would rather did it
Starting point is 00:56:51 in the NBA if I was going to do it you know what I'm saying but for me to be able to have a healthy career like that and then go to the big three and then do that it was kind of like I didn't pick a ball up for a minute
Starting point is 00:57:02 but I don't know them low shoes. I used to wear like mid-years and eyes. I don't know. I'm trying to blame all kinds of stuff. Maybe because I had some lows on. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:57:14 I don't know. I don't know how it happened, but I pump faked it and try to pull off that right. But it fell. I'm saying, did you look back? You thought somebody tripped you like it normally happened? Yeah. When I looked back and I didn't see nobody there,
Starting point is 00:57:27 I was like, I knew what it was. I just shook my head, man. I was like, I couldn't believe it. Man, listen. When we were playing here for the last, Atlanta Hawks, 2000, this had to be 2009, Germany. I was sitting out. I don't know if Smooth remember this,
Starting point is 00:57:43 but they had set me out for like a week. Smooth, y'all went on West Coast trip. I think you had them cut up, you had them bawled out West Coast trip. I was here in Atlanta with Wally Blaze getting treatment every day. It was your cab, right? Yeah, it was my calf. My calf was sore.
Starting point is 00:57:59 I had a knot. I literally had a knot in my Achilles in the middle of my Achilles, and doc told me, he's like, it's going to pop if you keep playing. So they end up shutting me down, German. So the team going off, I'm just going to the arena every day, just getting treatment. Me and Wally Blades, and after about two days of treatment, I'm like, Blaze, man, I got to break a sweat, bro.
Starting point is 00:58:18 I ain't broke no sweat. Like, they're going to come back off this road trip. You know, they're going to throw me back out there. I'm already 35, 40 minutes a night. You know what's going to happen. He was like, because, you know, with that type of injury smooth, German, you can't, it's hard to walk, let alone jog, get on a bike. You can't do none of that. Like, when that thing in front.
Starting point is 00:58:36 flame, it's a rap, bro. You know what I mean? So, so he said, he said, man, you should come try high yoga with me and my wife. I look at him, generally like, man, I ain't fin to do no damn hot yoga. That's exactly what I told. I'm the man, ain't fend doing no damn hot yoga. And boom, I grabbed my bag, shmoo. I left. His wife called me on the way to the crib. She's like, Joe, I think you should come try to hot yoga. It'll loosen up your quad muscles, take the pressure off your knees. It'll loosen up your hamstring. Take the pressure off your low back. it'll loosen up your calf muscles and it'll take the pressure off
Starting point is 00:59:07 your Achilles. So I'm like, all right, she didn't told me something now. I'm willing to do anything to get back right, get back healthy care of you. I'm going to, get back out there, get to some action. Right. Boom. Jeremy, I'm going now. I meet them up there. We do the high yoga class, bro.
Starting point is 00:59:24 I've never in life sweated this hard in my life, bro. I felt like a totally different person after class. After class, I'm talking about it. I felt like my movement was better, my body had that opened up, you know what I mean? I ain't here. I still got some aches and pains, but I feel pretty damn good. Boom. Blades tell me, he said, just meet me at the arena the next day and we just come follow up with treatment. I said, all right, cool. But I was so
Starting point is 00:59:49 geek. I'm like, man, I'm going back tomorrow because I felt good. I feel like if I go two days in a row, he was like, nah, don't don't go two days in a row. Just come to the rent and get treatment. I was like, all right, cool, but I still went anyway. I ain't telling. Man, I almost passed out in because I ain't understand hydration. Hydration. I ain't understand like how to hydrate, how to replenish the body because hot yoga, although it's a detox and it takes all the bad out,
Starting point is 01:00:16 hell it takes all the good too, so you have to put the good back in. I ain't understand that early. I'm just going, you know what I mean? I'm getting my little stretch on because I wasn't flexible at all. I couldn't like, you know, touch my toes or none of that. And without flexibility, you know, you're bound to get injured.
Starting point is 01:00:32 You know what I mean? what they kept telling me. So, man, I took a liking in the yoga, bro, for Wally Blaze who hooked me up. But if it wasn't for that, I probably would have had a real major Achilles chair. I'm talking about I literally had a knot in mind. Like, I couldn't even walk in the morning, bro. That's how bad it was. So hopefully, you know, we won't have no more Achilles tears to, you know, none of our top guys in the league, bro. But it's unfortunate because this is what we talk about, German, smooth. You know, these guys take the regular season. kind of take it as a joke. Not necessarily as a joke, but they don't really take it that serious.
Starting point is 01:01:07 They want to, you know, hurry up and get to the postseason. Well, when we get to the postseason and you out there going full throttle and you even went full throttle all damn year, that's when we're starting to see these tears because every possession is idle at an all-time high. You know what I mean? Like, you playing your hardest, like you...
Starting point is 01:01:28 So I can kind of see how these Achilles tears are happening, but I hope I hope they can crack down on it, man. I see him my boy, Dame Little. I said he'd been in the gym. He looked good, man. He looked like he's getting back. And you seen him German?
Starting point is 01:01:42 Man, that man, that gym every day, every day working hard. Got it, my man. Got it admired, for sure. I do, bro. You know. You feel so good. I seem to running some 17s like you back in high school. I seen it too, bro.
Starting point is 01:01:56 Yeah, but you see. And don't sleep on what's going on up there in Portland right now. What you mean? What's going on? What you got? You see what they just did in the first round. You're getting Dane back, and they just made a move, man, them, them people.
Starting point is 01:02:07 Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. And people, what they got doing something? They went and got job, German. They can't keep all them guards. You got school Henderson, you got Drew Holiday. You can't keep, you can't run for it. Some got to change. But what they got up there, they got something up there.
Starting point is 01:02:23 They got something, but here's a second round team, for sure. Hold on, hold on, hold on. They got something, but here's a question. will Jai as great as he is with the ball in his hand smooth will Jai be able to play off ball because we know Dane can play off ball
Starting point is 01:02:40 hell he can catch and shoot with the best of them that's what I was about to say he has we got to see what Jai been doing as far as his floor space can he catch a shoot can he can he space for like like how you said Dame can do or like how Drew the master
Starting point is 01:02:58 the art of space and the floor as well. So that's going to be the next evolution, the next step of seeing, that's the only way that this whole thing is going to be able to work. If guys are able to play offball a little bit, let the other guy kind of like run the offense or be able to get touch paint whenever to be able to, you know,
Starting point is 01:03:18 make teammates better as well to kind of take that pressure off with a job of other guards. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And, you know, hey, y'all both know, man, the point guard position nowadays is at a premium. him meaning, man, if you can't score the ball, hell, if you can't shoot the ball,
Starting point is 01:03:34 and that's my only concern, Germany, when we talk about Portland, Jop 3.0 percentage has been bad, bro. I think he had, I think he's low 20s, man, if I ain't mistaken. You don't have, job's having to take more off the dribble. In Memphis, he ain't had nobody can get off the ball and that handle that ball and create for him. Now you're getting up there to Portland where you got Dana's going to handle the ball, you got Drew that can handle the ball, and you got scoop,
Starting point is 01:03:58 whether they bring him off the bench or not, that can also create open shots for him. I'm not saying he's going to go up there and shoot 45%. But when Dame's shooting that ball at the clip, he's going to shoot it at, they got to help off somebody. And that's an easier shot for Jai to take his time. And I'm sure he's in the gym
Starting point is 01:04:13 because he's got some get back he wants to get him, I'm sure. For sure, yeah, you want to get you. I want to see Jai get back to having fun, man, enjoying the game, smiling, you know, doing his little celebration antics. But I ain't going to lie to y'all, bro. I ain't going to lie. I'm a little worried because,
Starting point is 01:04:30 You know, it's a lot different when he was in Memphis and he had the ball in his hands every damn possession. So it ain't really that hard, you know, to get in rhythm. Now you're in Portland, you got, you're going to have at least two other elite guards next to you, meaning Dame Lillard, Drew Holiday or school. You're going to have at least two of them. And I don't know if the rep's going to be enough, bro.
Starting point is 01:04:55 I'm going to be honest with you. I don't know if the rep's going to be enough for him to really get in ref form, for him to really kind of get that, gain that confidence back. I hope it is, but if he struggles with shooting, with shooting the basketball, you know, playing
Starting point is 01:05:09 off these guys, it's going to be a lot tougher than what I think people anticipate, bro. I think they got better, I think they got better players around him now. Like, Danny, Danny has come on in a... That's exactly what I'm saying. You're making my point. But, but they make that move,
Starting point is 01:05:26 they got to let him be who he is. They got to let him be who he is. Because if you don't. I think, but I think, I think he's the, he's the only point guard out of all those four that could just touch paint whenever he wants to, though. I agree. So, like, he, he creates a different type of advantage over the rest of those guards, because, you know, you got, like, like, Damien Lidd is coming off of an ACR injury,
Starting point is 01:05:48 so, but even before that, he wasn't really trying to go to the hole and touch paint, for real like that. He was, he was doing step back jump shots and shooting deep threes. Yeah. You know, I think Drew Holliday is more of a set-up guard, but he's getting older, so I don't think, you know, touching paint at will is part of his game anymore. Yeah, yeah. You know, School Henderson, he's another guy that could touch pain as well,
Starting point is 01:06:15 but I haven't seen him be an elite playmaker yet. So I would like to see him take the next step of being more of an elite playmaker. You know, because he has the athleticism. and the physicality to be able to get into paint. But I want to see him make his teammates better as well. See how he can see the floor a little bit better. You know what I mean? Hey, I'm with you on that, smooth,
Starting point is 01:06:38 because he showed me something in that Spurs series and that first round, them first two games in San Antonio. I'm telling you, look, we know the defenders that San Antonio guy, they couldn't do nothing with him that first two games, bro. Yeah, that confidence doing that moment.
Starting point is 01:06:52 When that confidence, that confidence carrying over into next year. No chance. Yeah. But look, though, that's what I'm talking about. Like, damn, school had a great showing in the postseason, but now he's coming here. He's behind three damn other point guard. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:06 How he posed to be able to get his off? You feel what I'm saying? Yeah. Mm-hmm. So I don't know, man. I hope Portland figured out. Obviously, they got a good problem. Hopefully, you know, all those guys stay healthy.
Starting point is 01:07:19 I'm looking forward to a dame, one of my favorite players of whites. So they're going to be a lot of fun. Hey, Portlandia fans. Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here.
