It gets weird. It's now your go-to podcast for staying up to date and in the weeds with Major League Baseball. No topic is off limits or too small. Bad umpires, great pitcher-catcher duos, new rules, old rules, three things that I want to talk about.

I'm the host. My name is DJ Wells. Special guest, Midwest legend in the building. We're going to introduce my man's last to my far left. We got my dog, Bishop B. Head out the Pearleys. How you doing, Nasty? Cool, Nasty. Let's get to it, baby.
Starting point is 00:02:36 Now, Dre, I know you done been a lot of places. You know, you grew up in the Midwest, but you see, have you ever seen the... Oh, he ain't even got the uniform on today. Normally, he's going to show you. Have you ever seen that before in your life? I see you got the Tiffany's on. You ever seen the black with his head into the white laces? Nah, that's crazy. he ain't even got the uniform on today. Normie, he going to show you. Have you ever seen that before in your life? I see you got the Tiffany's on. You ever seen the black with the white laces? No, that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:02:50 I ain't never seen that. They coming out soon, bro. We still in the works with Nike, but yeah, they coming. Get your 15? Yeah. Yeah, I got you, bro. I'm cool. I'm cool.
Starting point is 00:03:01 I don't really want them. They come with a pistol and a box cutter. You know what I'm saying? That's a package. They go right with your fit, bro. The strings, you feel me? That's the accent. They go with the whole narrative. It all works out.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Dre might be the first to get with me, robbing me with the blackboard. That could be your farewell tour. Nah, they don't love you like that. Still to my right, my dog, Young Nacho, Young Tig. How you doing, man? I'm good, bro. We got a legend in the building, bro.
Starting point is 00:03:35 Midwest. Midwest legend. Come on, man. Champion. I appreciate it. One of the realest, man. I'm so glad to have you. I'm going to let you do your thing. Hey, man, you already said it.
Starting point is 00:03:43 You know what it is. Volume game. We got a champ. Hall of Famer in have you. I'm going to let you do your thing. Hey, man, you already said it. You know what it is. Volume game. We got a champ. Hall of Famer in the building. Podcast destroying that out the gate. Draymond Green. Appreciate you sliding the 520, big dog. I appreciate y'all having me, man.
Starting point is 00:03:53 I'm a big fan of the show. I be watching. What y'all bring to the podcast space, bro, is absolutely incredible. So thank y'all for having me on. Jeff, I don't know how the fuck you remember all them stories. But it's crazy. Man, I don't know how the fuck you remember all them stories, but it's crazy. I appreciate it, bro. You was one of the first people to really shout us out early.
Starting point is 00:04:11 We appreciate it. That was love, bro. We really appreciated that, bro. No doubt, man. I love what y'all are doing. It's like, it's organic, you know? And I think the thing about the podcast space is like everybody, you got to find your lane and your niche in it.
Starting point is 00:04:26 You know what I'm saying? Because it's room for everybody. And I think the lane that y'all created, like not found, but created, the lane that y'all created is special, man. I appreciate that, bro. That's love, man. Obviously, man, we can talk about so many things, but we a real hoop spot.
Starting point is 00:04:41 We got to talk about before you got to Michigan State, the AAU days, you know what I'm saying? Be him. My man up here, he's a big AAU basketball. That's his thing right here. World War I was, Julian. You see the jacket? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:52 My Rashad swag. Shout out to Just Don and him. Mitchell and Nancy. Hit boys. For sure. But now, man, Hooper Days High School, man, who was that dude in your area outside of you growing up? Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Newpy Crater. We had Newpy Crater from Flint. He went to Flint Southwestern. We was the same grade. Newp was top 15, top 20 point guard. And I feel like Newp was the last true point guard of our era where he was just dishing. And he was great at it, you know, like getting people involved.
Starting point is 00:05:32 And it was love. And then you kind of seen him get to college. And all of a sudden they're like, yo, he got to score more. He got to do this. But I'm like, no, y'all been praising this and him being a true point guard. And you kind of started to see a change in them. But Newt was that dude in michigan like for sure like it wasn't me it was nupey and then it was this little white dude named
Starting point is 00:05:51 brad reffert who played as xavier yeah he had a partner it was those two like in my high school class that that was doing it cool like nah i know I know him. He can shoot like a mug. But I love how you play. And it's all geared towards being at Michigan State. Like, we had some kids from here. Andy went to Michigan State. Gary Harris. We had Xavier Booker who's there now.
Starting point is 00:06:18 Why Michigan State, though? I know, I could tell why you went. But I'm like, I try to ask them the same question. Like, why they picked Michigan State. What do Izzo do to make you get there? Also Aaron Henry. Oh yeah, Ben Davis. Shout out to the Westside little brother too. And y'all had
Starting point is 00:06:33 Aaron Harris too. Yes sir. Yeah, for sure. A lot of Nat boys, man. I think for me, number one, Michigan State was always my dream school. You know, I grew up watching Mateen Cleese, Mo P, Dave from Flint, I'm 20 minutes away in Saginaw.
Starting point is 00:06:49 Then Jason Richardson, who is from Saginaw. And so growing up, it was always Michigan State for me. Like, that was the gold standard, where you wanted to be. Now, I committed to Michigan State when I was like a sophomore, but they didn't really accept my commitment. It was like I was committed. It was like I was in a bad relationship. Like I was committed.
Starting point is 00:07:12 And they weren't committed to me, but I was committed to them. Twins. I've been there. Shout out to Purdue. Shout out to Purdue. I feel like Drake finished. I'm committed to them. And they ain't really honoring. So my junior year, I end up taking an unofficial visit to them. And they ain't really honoring.
Starting point is 00:07:25 So my junior year, I ended up taking an unofficial visit to Kentucky. My high school coach played with Tubby when Tubby coached at Tulsa. Okay. And I took an unofficial visit to Kentucky, and I ended up committing to Kentucky. Damn. And they were pissed. But I'm like, y'all ain't honoring my commitment like I'm going to Kentucky.
Starting point is 00:07:45 And Tubby ended up leaving. I ended up going there. But long story short, why I picked Michigan State was because Tom Izzo winning. He was putting out pros. When I was coming, it was like seven first-round picks, nine first-round picks or something like that in seven years. And then this probably won't go over well with people, but I went to Michigan.
Starting point is 00:08:12 I was going to go to Michigan. And, like, say I announce, say today is Thursday. I announce, I mean, today's Friday. I announce that next Thursday I'm having a press conference and I'm deciding my school. I was going to Michigan. Manny Harris was there. And so they had Manny start calling me.
Starting point is 00:08:32 And I was talking to Manny. And Manny like, Dre, tell me something good. And I'm like, just chill. It's cool. Like, it's good. And they're like, you need to come down one more time. The coaching staff now blowing my phone up. Come down one more time.
Starting point is 00:08:43 Come down one more time. I'm like, I'm good, man. I'm all right. Like, it's cool. Come down one more time. Come down one more time. I'm like, I'm good, man. I'm all right. Like, it's cool. Come down one more time. So finally, I go down on Monday. My mom takes me down. We play open gym.
Starting point is 00:08:53 They show me the dorms we was going to live in, which I'm a dummy. I didn't even see the dorms I was going to commit there. And Manny wasn't at that open gym. He had class. But all the other players was there, and I was busting their ass. Shout out to Steele Douglas. Yeah, and I was talking crazy to them boys,
Starting point is 00:09:13 and nobody said a word. And I was like, bro, I go to Michigan State, and I'm talking crazy to them, and we all about to fight. Out the gate. That's home for me. That's it for me. That's it.
Starting point is 00:09:26 That's it for me. Like, this is a family, and everybody's standing on business here. Ain't none of that, like, soft. I don't think I would have made it at Michigan. They a little softer. A little bit more preppy. They go a little that way. Michigan State is definitely grit, for sure. Absolutely. So that was it for sure. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:09:45 So that was it for me. That's crazy. Then obviously, you know what I'm saying, you have a crazy career. Michigan State, tell them to clear. How was your draft process? Awful. I did 21 workouts.
Starting point is 00:09:56 God damn. I had a guarantee from Indiana that they was going to pick me if I was still on the board. And I was here doing my second workout the day before the draft. And I woke up that morning and Larry Bird resigned. Came across the screen. If you was light-skinned, we would have got you. Y'all drafted Myles Plumlee.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Not even Mason. Y'all drafted Myles. I remember. Oh, he don't know everybody. Yeah, y'all drafted My Miles Plumlee. Not even Mason. Y'all drafted Miles. I remember. Oh, he know everybody. Yeah, y'all drafted Miles Plumlee. I had a guarantee from Atlanta they was going to pick me. Come on. Yeah, we fumbled the bet.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Rick Sun stepped down, like, or got moved over the week of the draft. I had a guarantee from Memphis that they was going to pick me. Chris Wallace got let go the So we could have drafted. God damn, Dre. That's a bad look. And I had a promise, which has been publicly said. I had a promise from Chicago. Shout out to Moog.
Starting point is 00:10:55 And they actually drafted your brother. Shout out to Moog. They drafted your brother. Shout out to my dog. You know how he got drafted? You remember Omar Ashik? Yeah. Omar Ashik. Yeah, Omar Ashik. We had to my dog. You know how he got drafted? You remember Omar Ashik? Whatever his name is. Omar Ashik.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Yeah, Omar Ashik. We had the same agent. Okay. And they wanted him to resign. And they was like, all right, you got to take my brother
Starting point is 00:11:13 in that draft spot. So he resigned. He ended up going to Houston anyway. He signed that like poison pill that was like three for 35.
Starting point is 00:11:20 Yeah. Him and Jeremy Lin. Yeah. Yeah, they had already picked my brother. So I knew my brother wasn't going to play in Chicago. They was pissed. I was like, he ain't about to get Jeremy Lin. Yeah. Yeah, they had already picked my brother, so I knew my brother wasn't going to play in Chicago.
Starting point is 00:11:25 They was pissed. I was like, he ain't about to get no clock. Damn. So that was, and needless to say, all those people passed me up, and I ended up falling in 35. And it was like, it was the most bittersweet thing, bro. It's like, I just got drafted. Y'all fucked over me.
Starting point is 00:11:43 I'm a second-round pick. And so that was, I mean, I hated the draft process. You know what's crazy? sweet thing bro it's like I just got drafted y'all fucked over me I'm a second round pick like and so that was I mean I hated the draft process you know what's crazy now we talk about it all the time boys
Starting point is 00:11:52 Dan Merrill would rather be if you're not going lottery Dana would rather be second round now cause you get to your bread faster that's a fact that's a fact
Starting point is 00:11:59 I was I made I made money before anybody else in my class that's a fact that's a gift real money shout out to Wes Matthews absolutely Wes did that the year I made money before anybody else in my class, man. Yeah, that's a gift.
Starting point is 00:12:05 Real money. Shout out to Wes Matthews. Absolutely. Wes did that the year. Man, that was my draft, bro. Yeah. I'm looking like, damn, what the fuck? He making $7 million a year? I only get $2,000 a month to spend on myself?
Starting point is 00:12:18 Like, this is some shit. Well, yo, let's do this real quick. Top three second-round picks of all time. Him, Gil. We can all go crazy. Just three second round picks of all time. Him, Gil. We can all go crazy. Just toss some names up there, bro. Him, Gil.
Starting point is 00:12:30 Manu. And Manu, bro. Joker. Joker. Ooh, yeah, Joker. I'm sorry. That's what I was about to say. I had to say slow down, y'all.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Nah, bro, you got four rings, bro. You can say that for sure, bro. But damn, Manu, Joker. Joker. I forgot Manu was the second round pick. Gil. Gil up there. damn, my new Joker. I forgot mine was a second-round piece. Gil. Gil up there.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Yeah, Gil. I can move myself out of that. But your career is probably better than Gil's, though. Yeah, the career, for sure. Yeah, for sure, my career is. But Gil's talent is undeniable. Yeah, that's why we do pure hoop shit. Yeah, pure hoop shit.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Gil is one of my favorite players. I wore a zero because of him. Ah. Yeah, that was why. Gil is one of my favorite players. I wore a zero because of him. Ah. Yeah, that was why I wore a zero. Okay. It was a means, bro. Yeah. See, now.
Starting point is 00:13:11 It ain't Drew Gooden. See, now, motherfuckers. I said I like Drew Gil, bro. This nigga be going back on his fucking word. Fucking liar. And you had these weird weird ass YouTubers talk about he's always trying to go against T. Man, fuck T.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Talk about Drew Gooden was my idol. I never said Drew Gooden was my idol. I said I liked Drew Gooden, bro, when he was in college. Man, let's pause, man. For the March Madness game, man. All right. I'm on your ass today, folks. We on that. We got company, bro.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Nah, I'm sorry, bro. Dre family, bro. It's cool. Nah, you know what I liked about him, though? He talked shit from day one. Remember one day we was in the game? Me and him talking shit on the bench. I'm trying to talk shit.
Starting point is 00:13:57 He talking shit to me. He on the court. He look at me like, shut your ugly ass up, motherfucker. I'm like, get your money up. He said, what? You got money? Get your shit up. I'm like, get your money up. He said, what? You got money? Get your shit straight.
Starting point is 00:14:10 I said, damn. I couldn't say that he ran down the court. I tried to go to the end of the bitch. He's lying. I ain't talking to you. I ain't talking to you. I told you, this nigga dangerous. Then he got paid. I said, oh, I got to eat that word. Goddamn. He got more money than me. Shout out to you, bro. You been that. That's why when I see it on the court, I'm like me. Shout out to you, bro. You been that. That's why when I see it on the court,

On every season of my podcast, Against the Rules, I take a broad look at various characters in American life. The referee, the coach, the expert. My next season's all about fans
Starting point is 00:16:42 and what the rise of sports betting is doing to them, to the teams, and even to my family. I'm heading to Las Vegas and New Jersey and beyond to understand America's newest form of legalized gambling. Listen to Against the Rules on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. I'm Renee Stubbs, and I'm obsessed with sports, especially tennis. Starting point is 00:17:22 I think I just genuinely loved what I did. I loved this waking up, putting on my sports gear. I still believe it was so rewarding. Maybe you can relate to it as well. As a woman, I think it's a very powerful feeling to have a job at which you're able to see improvements in real time. On the show, we dissect everything going on in the game straight from the biggest players in the world. Plus, serve up recaps of all the matches and headlines in the game,
Starting point is 00:17:49 including a rundown of the US Open every Monday. Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis Podcast every Monday on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. Bro, you have so many legendary moments in the NBA, bro. My favorite Draymond moment is the Paul Pierce, bro. They don't love you like that. It's one of the hardest rants of all time, bro.
Starting point is 00:18:16 Because we clipped it up. Luis clipped it up. When the fan threw the, he threw the headband in the crowd. The dude caught it and threw it back in. The funniest shit. That is your fucking fault, dude. That is your fault, bro. Man, when I said that, though,
Starting point is 00:18:31 number one, I didn't know everybody was here. No, because he pissed me off, man. Like, at that time, you know, he had just came over to the Clippers. And we had a thing with them. Like, you know, it was B. And so he come over and he on the bench and he And we had a thing with them. Like, you know, it was B. And so he come over and he on the bench
Starting point is 00:18:46 and he like, cook him, BG. Talking to Blaine. He too little, BG. And that's my biggest pet peeve. Don't fucking call me too little. Like, my height is my height. There's what.
Starting point is 00:18:58 And so, you know, he's talking back. Like, and we come down. And so Blaine catches on mid post, he face up. And he shot catches on the mid-post, he face up, and he shot fake me, and I fucking jumped for it. Like, why am I jumping for a Blake Griffin pump fake?
Starting point is 00:19:11 And so it really pissed me off, because I'm like, now you got me off my square. You got me jumping out a Blake Griffin pump fake. And I'm just like, bro, shut up. Like, you ain't like that. Like, you chasing this farewell tour, and you ain't like that. And, you know, the reality is you don't get a nickname like the truth if you're not nice. So Paul Pierce is nice.
Starting point is 00:19:33 However, with Kobe passing away, that statement, it did not age like spoiled milk. Because we saw the magnitude of cold once he passed. Like, the world stopped. Literally. And so, you know, when you look back on that statement, it was the truth. Nah, you speak the gospel. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:58 We didn't say he was lying. It was funnier than the motherfucker. He crazy as hell, man. I was like, damn, when he said it, I was like, that nigga crazy. Imagine you giving a finish, hey, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:20:09 You walk through the tunnel and they be like, nah, that's crazy. And for him to catch it, it was going to somebody and he was like, nah,
Starting point is 00:20:16 get this shit out of here. That's why I said, nah, that's up for Draymond. Draymond's an asshole. Who else up there be talking shit in the NBA though, bro?
Starting point is 00:20:25 Who you got? Man, you know, KD used to talk a lot. He don't talk no more it seems like. He used to talk crazy to people though.
Starting point is 00:20:35 Like, real crazy to people. I can definitely see that. Eric, what about A.E.? Pat, Ant talk more than anybody
Starting point is 00:20:45 by the way. And he's so good so it's not much you can say but I mean I'm gonna go there with you. Like I'm gonna talk
Starting point is 00:20:52 non-stop. But he he don't he talk to everybody and he that good. So it's not much you can really do
Starting point is 00:21:00 or say. But he he know he good and that's dangerous. Yeah. And he, he know he good and that's dangerous. Yeah. And he carrying that, that team. That's a fact.
Starting point is 00:21:09 Which is nuts because they got some guys that have lost a lot on that team. And he carrying them like. Trust me, you know,
Starting point is 00:21:16 I was over there. Yeah, I was over there. Shout out to Minnesota. Yeah, yeah, shout out to them, man.
Starting point is 00:21:21 He carrying them like, like they some winners. Yeah. And that's, that's a special gift, man. Yeah. I like him back down, but. Not at all. When you talking trash, to me, like, if I talk shit,
Starting point is 00:21:34 like, I'm talking shit to get myself going. In a way, I feel like you do that. Like, because I hear you sometimes just be like, fuck out of here. I'm like, bro, don't say nothing back to him. Just keep playing, bro. And people used to, like, when we used to play cat, you would say, like, that out of here. I'm like, bro, don't say nothing back to him. Just keep playing, bro. People used to, like, when we used to play cat, you would say, like, that shit's soft.
Starting point is 00:21:49 And I used to be like, cat, just hoop, bro. He gonna take you out your game, just hoop. And he wouldn't say nothing. He'd be like, I'd be like, don't say shit. Don't say nothing to him. But you do that shit to get yourself motivated and get yourself going. I don't think people know that. I used to talk shit a lot just to get myself going.
Starting point is 00:22:07 Nowadays, ironically, I don't. I only talk when somebody say something now. It may not seem that way these days, but I really only talk when somebody say something to me now. I be out there like, man, I didn't think I'd miss like 24 games. I got suspended this year. The most games I've ever been suspended. And I think I smile more on the court than I ever have.
Starting point is 00:22:31 I'd be out there laughing with niggas. But I used to bark up that tree. But yeah, man, I used to talk a lot just to get myself going because that's how I grew up. You know what I'm saying? Like we grew up on the court. If you ain't talking, like, you might as well not even be hooping. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:22:50 So, like, I have to talk. But now I think I've learned to not have to do that, like, to get myself going. And I think that's just growing with age and maturing. But once somebody go there, I don't know how to stop. Oh, we know. Your mixtape this year been crazy. The one with Buddy from the Lakers.
Starting point is 00:23:15 Bando. I said, bro, you having too much fun, bro. Fuck out of here. Check this out, though. Answer this question for me. I got a question for y'all. Hey, man.
Starting point is 00:23:30 Every time I do something, y'all start doing this. What does that say about you as a man? He trying to get you fun. That's weak. Yeah, that's crazy. That's corny to me. Yeah, that is. And so I have a hard time respecting that.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Like, every time I do something, the first thing you do is jump up, like, yo, review him, review him. Nasty. Like, bro, I got kids. Like, why you trying to get them to take more money from me? I think that's corny. That's corny. And so for me, I just can't, like, I can't respect that. I always say, like, that's saying more about you than that's saying about me.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Yeah. And so I just can't respect everybody, like, hopping up. Like, yo, you need to review him. I'm like, bro, I filed him. Like, relax. Like, it's all right. So I don't know, man. I'm losing more and more respect for these guys in the league.
Starting point is 00:24:14 The niggas be knowing what you up against, too. They already nitpicking on you. Yeah. They're trying to, you know, take money away from you. So that makes sense. That shit was just funny, bro. Your reaction. I wouldn't expect you to do that shit.
Starting point is 00:24:24 That shit was funny. I didn't want you to do this. That shit was funny. I didn't want you to get fined or none of that shit. But I'm like, bro, he's a fucking clown. Look at this nigga out here, man. He enjoying this shit too fucking much, bro. That's what I'm saying, B, bro. Like the other day when y'all played the clips, I said, bro, clown. Bro having fun, bro.
Starting point is 00:24:41 Bro, so why was the camera on me in that moment, man? Let me be. The camera was going to be on you, bro. You know what time on me in that moment, man? Let me be. The camera was always going to be on you, bro. You know what time it is. Come on, man. Let me be. I wasn't even in the scuffle. No, you earned this, bro.
Starting point is 00:24:52 You earned the ISO. ISO, Tim. All game, bro. ISO, Dre, for sure. Oh, man. We went back to Memphis. My first game back. They review a file.
Starting point is 00:25:04 Camera come in my face from this angle I threw the towel on this camera I grabbed another towel camera came in this angle I threw the towel they like
Starting point is 00:25:12 yo you gonna get fined I'm like if they fine me for getting the camera on my face then you know what man it's just here
Starting point is 00:25:18 it's what it is bro nah shit I know we don't got a lot of time before we got here I wanted to give you your flowers because you
Starting point is 00:25:25 you really changed the way basketball is played when I first came in the league we had two bigs we had a big power four and a big center we had Zaza and Al
Starting point is 00:25:35 we had Josh Smith and Al and then you came in the game with the Warriors and you 6'7", 6'8 on your best day whatever you want to say you getting the ball pushing the the break, throwing passes. You really a point forward.
Starting point is 00:25:49 You got Klay and Steph. They playing a two and a three, basically running the win. And y'all changed the game. And I think a lot of people like a Grant Williams, all these guys should be paying homage to you because, shit, you really fucked up the NBA because it was easy to do a 1-4 pick and roll, 1-5 pick and roll, the big sitting back, I get to shoot or I get to make a little
Starting point is 00:26:09 pocket pass and you came and you switching. And I'm like, shit. And then when you switch, you're like, don't help. I got him. Don't help. I'm like, ah, he got me fucked up. I'm like, and you really couldn't get by. He was just as fast as you. He moved just as good. He taller than me. He blocked shots. I was like, damn, he fucking up the game.
Starting point is 00:26:26 And then all of a sudden, y'all just start running the league, bro. That's all because of you. Clay and Steph, they are who they are, but you played a huge role in that, bro. I appreciate that, bro. You know, it's an interesting thing for me because I only really get that love from, like, hoopers. You know what I'm saying? Like, people who really appreciate know the game and at times like we all look for a little validation you know what i'm saying like
Starting point is 00:26:52 yeah it's you gotta have confidence and know what you bring and believe in yourself but at the end of the day like as a human being we all like some type of admiration. Yeah. You know, and that's not really what comes with the job for me. You know what I'm saying? It's like you screen, you pass, you play defense, and it's never really viewed that way except for from guys who really know the game and hoopers. And so, man, I appreciate that because it's been a lot of times, bro, where it's like, I don't even want to do this shit no more.
Starting point is 00:27:29 You know what I'm saying? Because it's almost as if you falling on deaf ears. You know what I'm saying? Like, I'm doing this, I'm doing that. But you don't necessarily get the credit for it. Like, even if I look at, like, people like, yo, you made a bunch of money. And I'm like, I have, and I'm very appreciative of the money I made look at, like, people like, yo, you made a bunch of money.
Starting point is 00:27:46 And I'm like, I have, and I'm very appreciative of the money I made. But, like, I've never signed a max contract. Like, coming off of championships or whatever, like, I've never signed a max contract. Nowhere near. Like, right now, my max was $150 million more than what I got. You know what I'm saying? And so, but to feel that love from hoopers,
Starting point is 00:28:12 you know what I'm saying? Like yourself, guys who I respect, because, you know, I don't respect everybody that play basketball. Just because you play basketball, you don't gain my respect. That ain't the benchmark for me, you playing the NBA. But, like, guys that I respect, that's, ultimately, that's ultimately,
Starting point is 00:28:29 that's what kind of make you want to keep going. You know what I'm saying? Like, just knowing that you get that appreciation from the real ones that know. So I definitely appreciate that, bro. They should know. Like, when you got suspended that game in the finals, that turned the whole finals around. Like, you was the most important player on that team,
Starting point is 00:28:45 like, during that stage, because you really run everything. Like, if you play against him, you know, like, all right, Draymond get the ball, he gonna push that shit. You gotta close out the step in there. They catch it on the run, it's over with. Draymond get downhill, he gonna make a pass,
Starting point is 00:28:58 he gonna skip his gun. Like, everything was like, all right, fuck. Keep this motherfucker. Hey, you gotta damn near guard him. He was like Rondo for the Celtics. He's like, you damn near gotta guard, like, like, all right, fuck, keep this motherfucker. Hey, you got to damn near guard him. He was like Rondo for the Celtics. He's like, you damn near got to guard, like, guard, guard him. Don't let him sit back and make plays and just pass open. I'm like, yeah, this motherfucker really special.
Starting point is 00:29:14 That's when I started like, yo, we need Paul Millsap. I'm like, we need somebody that could do the same shit. We wasn't good. Y'all know we're, but I'm like, we need some shit like that. And then the whole NBA trying to do it now, so. It was fun during that run where y'all was y'all I mean you had Brian obviously but as a team y'all was dominating these yeah we was in the west and and it was kind of like we were playing similar styles yeah you know what I'm saying like you you coming off making the reads you got Kyle Corver flying off. You got, um,
Starting point is 00:29:45 y'all have Baze for a minute. Damari Carroll. And y'all was really putting it together. And I thought, um, it's just unfortunate y'all. It's just unfortunate. If Brown want to pick you apart, it's over with.
Starting point is 00:30:01 Yeah, because he just walked the game down. And he'll make every play. He's going to run and transition if they got a layup. If they don't, he's going to stop. He's going to get everything he wants, everything he's playing. That's tough, man. It's tough to beat. Wake up with

And he said with you, bro, like, you are the intricate part of a dynasty. I think people don't understand, like, you are an intricate part of a dynasty. You are the reason why everybody's able to play the way that they are.
Starting point is 00:34:02 Like, how is that to, like, obviously you get that love, but, like, to be a part of so many historic situations, like, y'all team is historic, you've been a part of historic battles. What's the craziest game you played in? Man, the craziest game I played in... The craziest game I played in was game six in 2016, Oklahoma City. Yeah. And we was down 15 in the third quarter, and Klay went apeshit
Starting point is 00:34:35 because we had no business winning that game. Like, it was over. They was going to the finals. Yeah. And that was that. And to see, like, we got every stop we needed to get. We made every play we needed to make. And, you know, OKC was a tough place to play. That must be rock. Like, it's still, like, they back good now.
Starting point is 00:34:59 It's tough again. But when K and Russ, that was a tough place to play. And everything was against us. We down, we was down 3-1, but now at this point, we down 3-2 and it's, we down 15 in the third quarter. KD
Starting point is 00:35:18 and Russ gonna score the ball. And for us to come back from that, that was like the one. Because it's 2016. Like, I ended up getting suspended in the finals if I did not think we'd go on and win the finals as well. But that's neither here nor there.
Starting point is 00:35:34 But that was after the first championship. Everybody was still questioning us. Like, oh, such and such was hurt. That's why they won. Kyrie was hurt. Kevin Lowe was hurt. That's why they won. That's why they won.
Starting point is 00:35:41 Kyrie was hurt. Kevin Lowe was hurt. That's why they won. And that game was kind of like that thing, I think, that really sparked us going forward because it was like, oh, we can come back from anything now. You know, like, we can come back from now. We can do anything.
Starting point is 00:36:01 And like I said, we lost after I got suspended. But that was, I think that game was like really the thing that set us on that path that we've been on. What's your favorite championship year? 2022. Because 2015, which was the first one. Shout out to Harrison Barnes. Boys forget. Facts. HB was very integral in that championship. On my life. Boys forget. On my life Boys forget. Facts. HB was very integral in that.
Starting point is 00:36:26 On my life. Boys forget. Absolutely. Facts. Go ahead. 2015, we didn't really know what we was doing. You know what I'm saying? Like, you just chasing it.
Starting point is 00:36:34 Like, you don't really know. And so, at that time, I always say, like, irrational confidence. That's essentially what we had at that time. You know what I'm saying? Like, we just out there like, we gonna go in. We think so.
Starting point is 00:36:48 And, and we won. 2017, KD comes and Christmas Day, we were still trying to figure out like,
Starting point is 00:37:01 who getting the ball, K. And after we got, we lost to Cleveland. And after, K. And after we got, we lost to Cleveland. In the game. Yeah. And after that game, K told Steph, like, don't worry about me. I'm good.
Starting point is 00:37:12 I'll find mine. Be Steph. And from that point on, we wrote, it was just a matter of time to get to the date that we were winning the championship. Yeah, y'all was cheating, bro. 2018, just a matter of time, a date, we're going to winning the championship. Yeah, y'all was cheating, bro. 2018, just a matter of time, of the date we're going to win the championship. 2022
Starting point is 00:37:30 wasn't really a championship team. Like, of the championship teams that I've been on. You know what I'm saying? Like, it wasn't really a championship team. And I'll tell you, like, after every series, me and Steph would be walking to do an interview after we won a series.
Starting point is 00:37:48 And we'd walk and laugh. Yeah. And we'd laugh like, yo, how? How are we doing this series? How are we winning, like, these series right now? And we'd literally laugh like, this is funny. But that's also when Steph took that next step of like, no, I'm really one of them GOATs. For sure.
Starting point is 00:38:06 And he carried us. But that was the toughest one. We weren't favored. Like, everybody was calling us too small. Boston, they too athletic. They too big. We didn't stand a chance. And we went and made it happen.
Starting point is 00:38:21 So that one was my favorite one. And then also, you know, I told KD, I'm going to win when you leave here. Out the gate. And, um... You did that shit. I did that. So that one was the most fulfilling for me.
Starting point is 00:38:34 I got to ask you a random question. We talked about Klay going crazy game six. What was more crazy, that or what he did to my Pacers? Ooh-wee. Well, he dropped majority on him. He ain't dropped that shit on me. I told you who was guarding that nigga. It wasn'te. Well, he dropped a Jordy on him. He ain't dropped that shit on me. I told you who was
Starting point is 00:38:46 guarding that nigga. It wasn't me. Look at him. Tross and White go crazy. Glenn Robinson. That nigga on the stand there.
Starting point is 00:38:53 It wasn't me, bro. I had Steph. Steph might have had 30 that game. I don't give a fuck. He ain't had 60. The 60 was crazy. That was crazy.
Starting point is 00:39:01 Didn't dribble. But you know, Klay also kind of, like there was added things to that. Him and PG both same year from Cali, Southern California. And then Monte and Klay. You know, Monte was there, Klay coming in. Didn't necessarily feel like he embraced him his rookie year.
Starting point is 00:39:24 So it was an added sense of, I want to destroy these dudes. didn't necessarily feel like he embraced him his rookie year. So, it was an added sense of I want to, I want to destroy these dudes. And he did that. I was on the court like, we was going to the locker room, all right, it's when you go to Golden State,
Starting point is 00:39:37 you play at Oracle, even in the new arena, you know you're not about to win. Like, at these moments, no, for real, bro, you be like, all right,
Starting point is 00:39:43 we got to keep it close because if they go crazy in the first quarter, it's over. Fans going to start going crazy. They going to start running around on the bench, throwing towels and shit. So the first quarter, we was down like 12. I was like, this shit over. He started his shit.
Starting point is 00:39:56 I was like, oh, it's over. I see them start throwing towels. Steph running down the sidelines. I said, oh, they clowning us. I'm about to be on TV all night. Then they threw a lob to KD. They tipped the ball. I run it back to chase it down.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Steph just threw it behind. You just see me in the camera like. Boom. Yeah. You're going to see it, bro. It was crazy, bro. They team was too good. We used to be like, they cheating.
Starting point is 00:40:19 Y'all was worse than the Heat, bro. Yeah, it was. I mean, I think that was the greatest team of all time. In my opinion. Like, who over it? I ain't tell me
Starting point is 00:40:30 people don't smoke with y'all. Nah. Man, hold the fuck on. Who? We'd love to know. Let me think. I don't get another question. Y'all and that
Starting point is 00:40:40 O1 Lakers team would be real. I was like, yeah, that'd be. My only thing with the O1 Lakers team, I think we had a better team overall.
Starting point is 00:40:48 For sure. But like, we had nobody that could guard Shaq. Yeah, but they probably got the nod. Y'all there though.
Starting point is 00:40:56 Talent on the paper. Paper crazy. On paper, it's not. Paper warriors, y'all silly. Yeah. But with the Diesel
Starting point is 00:41:04 and Coaster, y'all had a run. Only thing about Diesel. Because who the fuck is guarding Shaq? Loom Loom? That'd be tough. We would have struggled with Shaq, for sure. And they had shooters. But Shaq had to come up.
Starting point is 00:41:21 Shaq couldn't play that drop. Yeah. Steph was going to shoot. Him and Klay was going to be teeing up, bro. And they didn't even have to scream because, oh, my God, what Steph would have did to Derrick Fisher. Oh, my God. He thought Matt Barnes was bad.
Starting point is 00:41:35 Nigga, Steph would have torched his ass. No, Steph would have. Steph would have torched his ass. Nigga love throwing jams. Shout out to Fish. Get well soon. See y'all? Y'all stupid as fuck.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Nah, I'd love to see that matchup, though. That'd be fun. Just a matchup and stuff. Yeah, that'd be classic. I'm talking shit, though. KD, bro, it's over. Y'all can fuck around this thing. It was DeMora.
Starting point is 00:42:01 I was just like, damn, man. Y'all can get everybody at it. But y'all played perfect basketball. I think that's what the dope part about it was, like, damn, man, y'all can get everybody at, but y'all played perfect basketball. I think that's what the dope part about it was like, the kids emulated y'all. Like everybody wanted to be Steph, but y'all played basketball the right way. So the people who copied y'all just off mimicking
Starting point is 00:42:14 had to play the right way. And that's what the dope part about it was like, for you, your impact on the team was just like, no, what he does don't always show up in the stat book, but he dictates the flow of a game. And like you said, the league had to transition that because what you gonna do? Yeah, you can have Shaq
Starting point is 00:42:26 get twos all day, dunk crazy, but what happens when that ball screen come out and you get open threes? Absolutely. Now it don't matter.
Starting point is 00:42:32 I commend you for that, bro. Nah, that wave. Playing with all them, bro. Nah, you a different kind of nigga, bro. It used to be a different wave, bro. They'll be chilling
Starting point is 00:42:40 and it's like, all right, we ready. And then you down 15 and then next thing you know, you just down 30. Y''s like, all right, we ready. And then you're down 15, and then next thing you know, you're just down 30. Y'all start, they tying, they taking their shoes off, they icing up. You're trying to get your stats now. I'm like, I love it.
Starting point is 00:42:54 I need three more shots. Hold on. Because you know, they used to blow people out. You'd be like, man. That's why I hate the whole Stetsonville game winners. Nigga, he up 30 in the fourth. He's not playing no more. You don't need to hit a game winner. He won the second half. That is a dumb conversation
Starting point is 00:43:07 to like try to take him out of because bro, how the fuck am I going to get a game winner when I'm just blowing my fucking by 67? Bro,
Starting point is 00:43:16 that was one year. It's my mirror. Me and Steph minutes used to mirror each other. We literally mirrored to the T. That's one of us was in foul trouble. There was one year I think we didn't play 34th, fourth quarters.
Starting point is 00:43:33 Come on, bro. That's what I'm talking about. That's out of pocket, bro. That had the real PTO. 34, fourth quarters. Damn. That PTO balance was crazy. Y'all was ready for the club after the third quarter.
Starting point is 00:43:44 That's a lot, bro. That is a lot. And y'all weren't playing scrubs after the third quarter that's a lot bro that is a lot and then y'all weren't playing scrubs all those games those were against contenders absolutely and it's crazy though
Starting point is 00:43:51 because I also see like I be seeing them talk about these records and all and I feel like Clay and stuff never like he had 60 on y'all
Starting point is 00:44:01 he didn't play the fourth quarter he could have had 80 he could have broke Kobe's record, bro. He was that hot. And so that's one of the things that put them two dudes in a different category for me is you got guys who score a lot of points. They still be in close games.
Starting point is 00:44:16 Yeah. We used to blow people. Like, when they was scoring like that, it was a blowout. It wasn't like it was against a bad opponent, but it's a blow people. Like, when they was scoring like that, it was a blowout. It wasn't like it was against a bad opponent, but it's a blowout. And so they never got to finish whatever it was they was up to. And I don't think they get enough
Starting point is 00:44:34 credit for that. And the ego wasn't there because the ego could have said, nah, we're going to stay and do this. But the ego was just like, we on the mission. Like, y'all know we're going to win anyway. We're going to get y'all up out of here and get y'all up out of the way. We ain't got to see your past. We're getting it, like you said, in 30 minutes, we're getting what you anyway. We're going to get y'all up out of here and get y'all up out the way. We ain't got to see your past stats. We're getting it, like you said, in 30 minutes, we're getting what you get in 40. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:44:49 Don't even matter. You crazy, man. But on that note, man, we got to get up out of here. Dre, appreciate you sliding in. I'll come back. Appreciate you. I'll come back anytime. I appreciate you.
Starting point is 00:44:58 We got to pull up, man. We got to get on your show, man. We got to get on the U-Stream. Let's do it. We'll do that. Whatever U-Stream, man. They got all this technology. U-Stream. Let's do it. We'll do that. Whatever U-Stream, man. They got all this technology. Y'all know me.
Starting point is 00:45:07 I'm in the hotel room. I can't say nothing on here. They ain't going to pause me, but... My God. White flag. He was adjusting
Starting point is 00:45:17 crazy. I was like, bro, in the studio. On the whole future? Relax. My God, man. We appreciate you, bro. We appreciate you, man. Thank y'all, bro.
