Yeah, I'll bring them back one time i got a couple more left it's cool they're gonna be pissed but to my left my dog nba going crazy i like the one thing i like about seeing him is like i saw him when he was on your team in minnesota and like to see him now in a row, especially you on the cheating-ass team now, man, doing your thing. Just see you on the internet last week, catching bodies. J.O., Josh Coggins, appreciate you pulling up to 520, my boy. Thanks for having me, y'all. Man, y'all see my boy got
Starting point is 00:05:13 Rolexes and shit. I remember when he was a young buck. That motherfucker wouldn't leave his apartment. Now look at him. That boy shining. You was dropping out of the studio rookie year? Nah, I picked the studio up this summer bro oh man but I for sure
Starting point is 00:05:27 wouldn't leave my apartment Teague actually got me you out the league now so I kinda said everything you actually the one who got me out my apartment bro we had a thing
Starting point is 00:05:38 I think it was my second year in the league we had a thing like you know what I'm saying we was we weren't that good trust me I think we had Minnesota thing like you know what I'm saying we was we weren't that good oh trust me
Starting point is 00:05:47 I think we had Minnesota doesn't like me we had like a 14 game losing streak 12 game losing streak in the same season it was just bad damn
Starting point is 00:05:55 bad time Minnesota Pistons nah it wasn't that bad no they broke it up they broke it up no no no and they broke it up
Starting point is 00:06:02 in the middle of that season we weren't the Pistons we weren't the business. Yeah. We weren't the business, though. Our problem was we would be good. We just couldn't finish games, bro. Yeah. We just couldn't finish games.
Starting point is 00:06:13 So T used to go out. And I ain't never really been out. So one day he was like, you know, J.O., I'm going to take you out, man. I'm like, all right, cool. Took me out. You know, we had a good time. And then, like, Aries City. This shit would be so so funny i used to sit in the back teague sitting in the front he'll be like jo and he'll turn and look at me like this and i'll put my head in the uh in the
Starting point is 00:06:35 aisle and we just give each give each other that look pause and he'll just do this and that's how i know he's waiting for his text but where we Where we at tonight, bro? Hey, wife, that was some time ago. I don't do that no more. All right, boy. Now we were trying to clean up. Like when we said, you know what I mean? We had to have some type of fun, bro. It was terrible.
Starting point is 00:06:55 I mean, no, it wasn't no crazy. Like, we was around a whole bunch of people. I'm not saying all that. Nah, but we was outside. We was outside. Yeah, we was fine as fuck. The funniest one, though, when we landed in Houston one night
Starting point is 00:07:04 and the OVO plane was outside. The funniest one, though, when we landed in Houston one night and the OVO plane was outside. T, look back. My head already in the eye. I'm on that. No, we outside. No, man. We outside that plane. I'm already like,
Starting point is 00:07:16 I'm already looking up front waiting for this nigga to turn around and bust. I was like, hey, yeah, we outside. Oh, you already know. OVO plane right there. Champagne poppy somewhere. We gonna be there. For sure. Without yeah, we outside. Oh, you already done. OVO playing right there. Shit, if I ain't popping somewhere, we gonna be there.
Starting point is 00:07:27 For sure. Without an H down side. Man, well, we was outside. Nice. J-O, we already started the show with a fried question for you. You know what I'm saying? Since you've been spending time in the league. Okay.
Starting point is 00:07:37 What's the craziest thing or, like, the craziest moment you've been a part of the NBA so far? Man, I've been a part of a lot of crazy moments. You've definitely been on some, two nice teams. Man, I think there's two of them.
Starting point is 00:07:56 One was when I, when I got drafted with the Jimmy. That was a crazy situation. That was just messy. As soon as I, I just got, I just got in
Starting point is 00:08:05 in the middle of it. And then I feel like last year when we got Katie, that was crazy too. Because I was trying to make sure I still lost the team. He was looking at that play like, I don't want to be in this train.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Because, you know, when Rose tweet, it's just like one tweet. Like, Phoenix Suns, the choir, Kevin Durant. I'm like one tweet. Like, Phoenix Suns acquire Kevin Durant. I'm like, okay, cool. Who the other team acquiring though?
Starting point is 00:08:32 You know what I'm saying? So those two moments, I would say they were one of the biggest moments. That's crazy. You started your rookie year in Minnesota. How was that the first time y'all linked up? Because you was already there, obviously. Yeah, it's crazy because I remember Tibbs.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Tibbs was my dog. He know me and Tibbs was tight. So when we was doing the draft process, I seen him play at Georgia Tech and I seen the other rookie, which was Kata. They was debating
Starting point is 00:08:57 on picking him or Kata at that spot. And I'm like, luckily we ended up getting both. But I was like, nah, that nigga play hard. That's you, Tibbs. And he was like, yeah, motherfucker, I'll run through a wall. And I'm like, luckily we ended up getting both. But I was like, nah, that nigga play hard. That's you, Tibbs. And he was like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:06 Motherfucker run through a wall. And I was like, so I knew he was getting picked. So when I came there, I was already hyped to know him, like, play. Because I knew who he was. Watched him play. Because it's me and Tibbs was looking at film over him. So I was like, came, introduced myself. And he was real cool.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Cool as shit. That's what's up, bro. I want to take you back to the beginning, though, bro. When did you come back, or when did you move to the States from Lagos? Like, how much time did you spend there? Yeah, I was born in, you know, Lagos, Nigeria. I moved to the States when I was three. Oh, you ain't spent that much time.
Starting point is 00:09:39 I ain't spent too—I don't even remember. I don't even remember. But I've been back a couple times, so I know who's who when it comes to like extended family and kind of around the cities and stuff. But being born there, I don't remember. Are you tapped into the Afro beat world? A thousand percent. Who's your favorite artist, bro?
Starting point is 00:09:56 My favorite artist is Ashakam. I ain't heard of that. You got to, bro. He probably, he was the most, he was number one in Afrobeats last year. Like, most listened to. For real? Like, Nigerian.
Starting point is 00:10:13 Who do you think got it cracking so far as, like, the blend from Nigeria to the States, though? To the U.S.? Like, was it Wizkid? Was it, who got that merge going? You got to go Wizkid. And the reason why I say Wizkid is because Wizkid been in the game for a long time. I remember I was in eighth grade when we went to Nigeria for winter break. I'm listening to Wizkid and that's eighth grade. That's when-
Starting point is 00:10:38 Rob Markman, Damn. That's, I don't even know what year that was. 20- 20- Like 11, 2012. Yeah, that's around that time. So that was, like, 12 years ago. And he's still relevant.
Starting point is 00:10:48 He was popping back then, and he's still relevant. I think that's when he had a song with Chris Brown. I can't think of the name of it, but he had a popper song. That's wild. And then, like, you know, when Drake 2016, I think it was 2016, did the one dance with Wizkid. That's when it started, like, transforming and transforming. I was like,
Starting point is 00:11:05 we don't need like American artists no more to release music and be popular. Yeah, now y'all number one for sure. Yeah, Joe, he got pulled his car.
Starting point is 00:11:13 He swear he the Afrobeat's king. Nah, they call me Afrobeat Henny, bro. We'll tap in. Nah, for sure. Who calls you that? The U2. Oh.
Starting point is 00:11:21 I ain't heard that one yet, but respect. Nah, but where'd you start hooping though? Funny story. My oldest brother, he, uh, ain't gonna lie. My house was boring as shit. Like growing up, it was boring as hell. It was really nothing to do.
Starting point is 00:11:36 My oldest brother, um, he wanted to find out what he wanted to do. Like if he wanted to play football, he was trying all different type of sports. So he bought a basketball goal but never played it and um i went outside one day and i was just like shit fucking let me try and ever since that one day on the driveway i just fell in love with it okay when did you realize he was like really cold uh when i started playing like organized basketball i was playing some some bs when i started playing, like, organized basketball, I was playing some BS. When I started playing organized basketball, it was, like, sixth grade.
Starting point is 00:12:09 And I, like, I was last one picked on a team. Only reason I made the team is I was tall. Like, I was this height for, like, the longest. Damn. Yep. And so they picked me up. Like, I was 5'11", like, the eighth grade. Six feet in eighth grade.
Starting point is 00:12:23 So they picked me up in the sixth grade just because I was tall. Like, I didn't even practice with the team. That's how sad I was 5'11", like, the eighth grade. Six feet in the eighth grade. So they picked me up in the sixth grade just because I was tall. Like, I didn't even practice with the team. That's how sad I was. First day of practice, like, they practicing. I'm on the side doing mic and drills. Fucking it up. And I was happy, though, because in my mind, I'm like, I've never received instruction before from, like,
Starting point is 00:12:42 somebody who knows the game of basketball. So, like, you know, you might see, like, might see like dang like that's embarrassing i wasn't embarrassed i was having the time of my life doing a mic and drill for an hour five times a week i got i got so good so quick. Like, by seventh grade, the same team, because, you know, it's sixth grade, and then you become seventh grade. By seventh grade, I was starting. I went from not playing in the sixth grade when, you know,
Starting point is 00:13:14 like you get a blown out. I was in the coach put all the sorry niggas in. I still wouldn't get in. I will never forget this. We beat a team 48 to 8. Damn. I didn't play. Coach T, were you
Starting point is 00:13:25 satisfied? Coach T, would you do it? He would have got in, bro. He would have got in. I ain't going to name drop. He would have been on that bench fucking with him. We ain't going to do that. Finish your story, J. But by that seventh grade, I was
Starting point is 00:13:41 starting and I was one of the best players on the team. So it took a year and and I learned real quick, and then just kept elevating from there. So they was grooming you to be a center, or you always been groomed to be a PG low? Nah, they was, I played post. I ain't come out that post till, till, like. What, CP3?
Starting point is 00:14:03 11th grade, for real. Damn. Yeah, 11th grade for real damn 11th grade is when I but I was I wasn't like a post like a I was like a Giannis I'm not trying to
Starting point is 00:14:14 I'm not trying to compare myself see I'm a Giannis I was like a Giannis in the sense where you could do stuff like perimeter wise I'm not out there shooting trades
Starting point is 00:14:22 but if I get the rebound there's not people looking at me like, you're passing the ball, I'm pushing that. I initiated the offense because usually the other center would be on, but I was always fast. So the other center used to guard me, and I'd just go by him, and as soon as somebody come out, I'm passing the ball to the shooter.
Starting point is 00:14:37 So it was like I was a post player. I didn't shoot threes, but I could dribble, and I could pass, and I could finish. So you was a wing on that CP3? But at CP3, I was a wing. But by that time, I had already established I could dribble and I could pass. And I could finish. You was a wing on that CP3. But at CP3 I was a wing. That's when I, but by that time I had already established like a jump, I was shooting jumpers, trays, pull ups. What other league players was on your team?
Starting point is 00:14:56 It was me, Harry Giles and Grant Williams. So you never played with Theo? Nah, I never played with Theo. Harry Giles was. High school phenom. That's probably one. I'm not gonna Gary Giles was... High school phenom. After injuries, high school phenom. I'm not going to say one of them. That was the best player I've had as a teammate in high school. Man, he was crazy.
Starting point is 00:15:13 He was unreal. His highlight tapes on Instagram was legit. I remember my first time, because I had to leave my EYBL team to go to CP3. I was originally with Southern Stampede. I moved to CP3 and they were like, look, if you go to CP3 because I was originally with Southern Stampede and I moved to CP3 and they were like,
Starting point is 00:15:28 look, if you go to CP3, ain't no coming back. But I ain't like the team. So I'm like, man, I'm just going to bet on myself. I'm going to go head to this.
Starting point is 00:15:34 They didn't really have tryouts, but it was practice to see if they thought you was fit for the team. So I went there, you know, went out there to practice in North Carolina
Starting point is 00:15:42 and, you know, we run it. They told me to go set a screen for Harry I'm like set a screen for Harry I ain't set I don't really set screens
Starting point is 00:15:54 you know what I'm saying they said go set a screen for Harry so I'm like it's coach so I'm in a new environment so I gotta listen so I set a screen for Harry, and they came through, snaked that bitch. Oh! I told them to look, bro.
Starting point is 00:16:10 How many screens? You fucking idiot, bro. What the fuck? That shit was impressive, bro. He had MVP that season. We ain't losing. We lost like one or two games. We were regular season champs.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Look it up. We lost on some bullshit to Jason Tatum's team in the Final Four. Yeah, that game on YouTube. Yeah, it was crazy. I remember it was a tie game. And CP, you know, he coaching his ass off. He like, no matter what we do, we're going to take the last shot of the game. He drawed a play up for Harry.
Starting point is 00:16:43 Harry went a little early. Left hook. Hit that motherfucker. They called timeout. We up two with three seconds left. So we all thinking that shit about to go to Jason. Everybody in tennis is on Jason. Man, I don't even know his name.
Starting point is 00:16:58 They had a point guard. He just dribbled like five times down the right side of the court and shot it. And then one of our players contested and and he, like, double clutched it. It's about half court. And I'm under the goal, and I'm looking at the trajectory of that whole shit. I'm like, bro, this motherfucker is cash.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Nothing but that. Game over. We done. Yeah, bro, that motherfucker got a hell of a million views on YouTube. I don't know exactly what you was talking about. Man's going to get blasted by the Georgia Stars, bro. Who else was on Jackson Tatum's I know exactly what you was talking about. Man's gonna get blasted by the Georgia Stars, bro. Who else was on the Jackson Tatum team?
Starting point is 00:17:29 I think it was just him. Daniel. He didn't team up. He would. He played with somebody else in high school, though, too. Another league nigga, but I think they only
Starting point is 00:17:36 came together for a couple tournaments. And I had, like, a similar role on that team. I used to guard the other team's best player, right? And, you know,
Starting point is 00:17:42 I guarded Malik Monk. He was cold. Malik Monk was cold. Malik Monk, I think he might guarded Malik Monk. He was cold. Malik Monk was cold. Malik Monk, I think he might have played with him. Nah, Malik Monk was Arkansas. I know, but I think, damn, I can't think who Jason played with. But Jason was probably, like, the only player at that age where I would say, like, his footwork was so ahead of.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Damn. Like, he would post up, mid-post, got the, I'm like, bro, I don't know which way this nigga about to go. Yeah, he was cold in high school for sure. I think he was doly on his St. Louis team. Y'all played in St. Louis. Yeah, St. Louis. St. Louis Eagles.
Starting point is 00:18:11 Eagles, that's what it was called. Y'all think he was the best player you played this summer? In AAU? Yeah, most advanced. I respect that. Probably the most advanced player. I'm trying to think who else was on that circuit. Miles Bridges was pretty good too, though.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Yeah. Yeah. That nigga's cold. He was just bigger and stronger than everybody when we was younger. Athletic as hell. He'd just move out the way. You can't do nothing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:41 He was cold. Like I said, Malik Monk was cold. Facts. That nigga had so much bounce he did his high school mixtape is a sleeper too it's all just
Starting point is 00:18:51 going crazy straight high school Smith he was J.R. Smith in high school but still is for sure that's a great NBA

Hey, it's Jake Halpern. We have a new limited series of my podcast, Deep Cover, out now. All about George Santos,
Starting point is 00:21:57 the Republican congressman from New York who told a lot of stories about his life and his credentials, many of which, turns out, were not true. It's like, you know, Mr. Ripley meets Catch Me If You Can. I mean, the guy hoodwinked everyone. He was very ambiguous and sketchy, quite honestly, about what the company did and how it made so much money overnight. What prosecutors allege in the indictment is that most of that $12,000 goes directly to Santos' personal bank account. I would go down these rabbit holes and start thinking about, like,
Starting point is 00:22:32 what is the nature of truth? You know, like, what can I actually, like, tell the reader is real about this guy's story? My phone is literally blowing up. Inquiries about saying, is George going to jail? What's going on? And I'm like, why are you doing this?
Starting point is 00:22:50 Like, why? Listen to Deep Cover George Santos on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. But obviously you was killing it in high school and got time to make some college decisions. We know you went to Georgia Tech, but if you didn't, what was the school that almost got you? Tennessee.
Starting point is 00:23:08 You and Grant? We actually went on our visit together. But you could tell they love Grant a little more than they love everybody else. It was like four of us. It was like four of us. We all went together. Like that was like Rick Barnes' first recruiting class at Tennessee. So he was like, you know, he wanted to get like a recruiting class,
Starting point is 00:23:33 be like the face of his, you know, program, whatever. So it was me, Grant, this dude named Jordan Bone. We actually ended up going there. I remember him. And a dude named Derriante Jenkins. He actually went to VCU. So we all went there and I was just like, man, they showed so much love. That's one thing that I never really felt was like that college feel.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Like Tennessee, you know what I'm saying? And I love that part. And I love it wasn't far from, you know, the crib was like a two, two and a half, three hour drive. But then when I went to Georgia Tech, I didn't want to go. They were wearing Russell. Facts. Why do they? Somebody went to Georgia Tech.
Starting point is 00:24:17 The owner of Russell, I think, yeah. Georgia Tech alum. Yeah, he, Georgia Tech alum. So they had Russell, hard ass classes. You know know growing up being an adult now I'm like that shit didn't matter
Starting point is 00:24:28 but when you're a little kid you're not trying to take all those hard ass classes that he got over there yeah I was just like huh
Starting point is 00:24:34 damn but then when I thought about it I'm like they were graduating like seven seniors and then I'm like
Starting point is 00:24:42 damn I'm gonna have a chance to play start you know what I'm saying then I'm like, damn, I'm going to have a chance to play, start. You know what I'm saying? Then I'm playing Duke, UNC, you know, Miami,
Starting point is 00:24:49 Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Louisville, all these schools. I'm like, if I have two good games against these motherfuckers,
Starting point is 00:24:56 I'm going to be straight. That's how I'm thinking. So I'm like, man, fuck the classes, fuck the Russell. Come on, let's do it.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Fuck the Russells, Chris. I'm nothing on wearing Russell, but... But they said, you know, they sold it. You can wear any shoes, though. Yeah, I over-exaggerated. It was just a jersey. But the team gear is crazy.
Starting point is 00:25:13 It wasn't fit at all. So it was already fashionable by the time you got there. I just wanted a hoop. But, you know, you a kid, you still want to wear, like, Nike. You settle for Adidas. They ain't got no Nike tits. They got Russell.
Starting point is 00:25:30 He got spoiled. His ass was in the EYBL. Oh, yeah, he had that shit playing with the TTP3. But TTP3 was different, though, because we used to get all the EYBL shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:39 And we'd get all the Jordan shit. That shit was love. So you went from that to Russell. Ain't that a damn shame? He playing, dude, them niggas got dry fit. He shit was love. So you went from that to Russell. Ain't that a damn shame. He playing, dude, them niggas got dry fit. He got a Russell. But I was really mad, though, because all I could do was red. Like, our team color was red.
Starting point is 00:25:52 So everything we had was red. So I come to the gym one time all red on. I'm thinking, I'm starting. My coach was like, take that shit off. I'm like, what? But I was like, what you mean? He was like, you know, our rivals are Georgia. We don't wear red on campus.
Starting point is 00:26:07 That's my whole closet is red. He's either I'm wearing some nice red shit, or I got to go back and wear the bullshit that I had. Because I'm like, bro. So I just had to rock with the Russell. And then they were stingy with the Russell gear. Oh, yeah. I'm going to take you out.
Starting point is 00:26:23 I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take you out. I'm going to take, yeah. I want to get a plug in with the Russell gear. Bro. You want to take a look at the plug in with the Russell? If you go ahead and put that on, I put this on everything, bro.
Starting point is 00:26:32 If we go wear a Russell, you got to flood us with Russell bags, bro. Bro, you look too small. We bagging for Russell like, yo, can I please get some extra
Starting point is 00:26:40 compression shorts? Come on. You don't even get enough compression shorts. I know I got no chance with the shirts and the sweats. I just wanted some extra socks, coach.
Starting point is 00:26:48 Or the crew manager. It was bad. Y'all think we'll be ethical. Y'all have the Georgia check. Man. I mean, they Adidas now, so I can talk all the shit
Starting point is 00:26:56 I want. Oh, they Adidas. I was about to say that Russell shit was crazy. The year I left, the next year, they were Adidas. You made the best
Starting point is 00:27:04 college choice because the SEC wasn't really cracking back then. And also, Tennessee, they had like hella sophomores, hella juniors when I was going in. So I was like, I'm all about competition. I love to compete, but I'd rather go somewhere else where the odds are more in my favor. And as soon as I got there, it was like I was rolling. So it was, like you said, it was the best decision. For sure, bro.
Starting point is 00:27:27 Shout out to Russell. Shout out to Russell. And the ACC was the best conference in basketball by far at that point. What? I gotta ask you, how was it like
Starting point is 00:27:35 playing in Cameron Indoor? Like, how was it like playing in, what's the USC shit? It's not the Dean Dome, is it? Yeah, it's the Dean Dome.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Like, how was it playing in them like historic places? Because like, you don't get that everywhere in college basketball. Okay, so Cameron Indoor and the Dean Dome. Yeah, it's the Dean Dome. How was it playing in historic places? Because you don't get that everywhere in college basketball. Okay, so Cameron Indore and the Dean Dome are two hostile environments, but I'd rather play. I'm not saying I'd rather play because it really doesn't matter to me,
Starting point is 00:27:57 but Dean Dome was less hostile. Facts. And why I say that is Cameron like, Cameron Indoor has, it holds 3,000 people. You taking that ball out of bounds, they, they scratching your neck.
Starting point is 00:28:11 Like, you, like, I'm, bro, it's crazy, bro. The floor bounce. Like, it's loudest because it's small. It's not, I mean, it's popular,
Starting point is 00:28:18 but it's not as big as you might think, bro. Yeah, I didn't realize that until I got older. Like, seeing it on TV, I'm like, damn, and I got older, I was like, damn,
Starting point is 00:28:24 that's a little, that's small. It's't realize that until I got older. Like, seeing it on TV, I'm like, damn. And I got older than real, I was like, damn, that's a little, that's small. It's very small. The guest locker room, everything's small. It's like AAU. Damn. But then Cameron,
Starting point is 00:28:33 I mean, not Cameron, the Dean Dome is huge. So it's like, they're yelling and they loud as hell, but they like, back there. Like, you're not even worried about them for real.
Starting point is 00:28:41 Like, they yell, it's like echo. Like, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was still hot, it was still loud, but it, it's like echo. It's like, yeah, yeah, yeah. It was still hot, it was still loud, but it's just like, over there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:48 But like, it's like you're feeling like they're right behind the bench. Like, they are right behind the bench. It was crazy. And then the team, the teams that both,
Starting point is 00:28:57 they had, that they had at the time, made it worse too. Because when I played, because I didn't play in the Dean Dome until my sophomore year. And I played, and I played because I didn't play in the Dean Dome until my sophomore year and I played
Starting point is 00:29:05 and I played in Camden during my rookie year my freshman year but my freshman year they had boy we got smack bro they had Frank Jackson
Starting point is 00:29:23 Grayson Allen on one wing shooting they be we ran Jackson, Grayson Allen on one wing shooting. They be running floppy. Grayson Allen coming off one way. Luke Kennard coming the other way. Harry Giles sent one screen. Jason Tatum. Then they got
Starting point is 00:29:36 Emile Jefferson, who's 24. I was 17 in college. Shout out to Emile. I actually ended up meeting Emile. But he was 24. I'm actually end up being Emile. Emile's cool as fuck. But he was 24. Facts. I just turned 25.
Starting point is 00:29:49 He had helicopter years. Facts. Man, I play with Emile. I'm like, bro, but they, man, they were really good,
Starting point is 00:29:56 bro. And we got, like, we got smacked by, I remember, I put on my Instagram because he was on ESPN. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:30:01 yo, tune in ESPN. I deleted that shit at halftime, bro. I snuck my phone and deleted that tune in shit at halftime. I didn't delete his story at halftime. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:30:11 man, I didn't see this shit. I'm turning this shit off, bro. And the thing is we had a good game, but it was just like, that was a protein. It was like,
Starting point is 00:30:23 we went hit a two, they hit a three. We turn the ball over. They hit a three.. Like, we would hit a two. They hit a three. We turn the ball over. They hit a three. We hit a free throw. One for two. They hit a three. The score is three to nine.
Starting point is 00:30:32 And we ain't really do nothing bad. And that's how the whole game. But I think they scored 100 points, bro. In college. Now I was like, whatever. But back then, bro. That's a lot. That's a lot now, bro.
Starting point is 00:30:43 In college, bro. That's a lot now. Y'all got to bro? That's a lot now, my nigga. Y'all gotta see the, if y'all can get the, I don't remember what the score was. It was 100? Oh, don't worry. And we scored like 50? 50 to 100. What you had? What you had?
Starting point is 00:30:57 I don't remember, bro. I think I had like, I don't think I had more than 15. Something like that. But you know, when you get beat that bad, like, stats don't even matter, bro. At all. I could have had 30. This shit don't, nigga, this shit don't matter.
Starting point is 00:31:12 Trust me. I got beat like that the other day. Tell us more. Don't worry about it. We scored two points in the first quarter. Nah, real shit. Yeah. This high school team. This is the first part. How, real shit. Yeah. This high school team.
Starting point is 00:31:25 This true story. How do you balance that, though? It wasn't no balance. It was like... I said, how do you balance, like, the coaching? Like, how do... Because I seen somewhere, like, a couple years ago, it said that you coaching high school.
Starting point is 00:31:35 I was like, damn, I can't picture Teague as a coach with, like, kids, bro. Funny. Comical. Jokes. But I know Teague, but, you know, Teague, I feel like he a real, like, I feel like, I know he a real good nigga, so I know, T, I feel like he, I feel like, I know he a real good nigga.
Starting point is 00:31:46 So I know like he out there trying to make a difference in the kid's life, but I just couldn't, can't see, I can't see it though. Yeah. He trying his hardest.
Starting point is 00:31:53 It ain't nothing to see. He trying his hardest. I promise you it ain't. But my nigga ain't losing his hair, man. I don't want words. We ain't that bad, but we bad.
Starting point is 00:32:01 But we be all right. Speaking of coaching, hey, big three, what's up, man? I don't know why they put that out there like that. Yeah, they just dropped that.
Starting point is 00:32:11 Yeah, they said, let me warm up a little bit first, man. Nah, I'm like, damn, why they do me like that, Q? What team you gonna be on? I don't know. I get to pick my team a little bit. I'm trying to call Paul Millsap. Answer my call, Paul. Damn, Paul. I need some Hawks connections. Man, Paul's so cold. Cold, ain't he?
Starting point is 00:32:27 Man, he the first guy. You know, I live in Atlanta in the offseason. And so does he. He the first guy I ever seen dominate open run with barely shooting. Yeah, he different. You know, in the summer, that's when you get your rocks. That's when you go crazy. You shoot all the shots you ain't get to shoot in the season. Oh, yeah
Starting point is 00:32:46 You're gonna see that in the summer. He ain't do all that, bro. He Poster spin move shoot it like doing all this and screens rolling like dude be like, bro I've never seen no shit like that in my life, bro I'm gonna pick up the next car. So he do shoot is a bucket for show facts It cold one of the coldest. Shout out to Ben Simmons. His mixtapes in the summer be crazy.
Starting point is 00:33:08 Bro. I'm not getting into that. Bro. Golded. Bro. Golded. Every summer I see Ben Simmons trying to hit threes,
Starting point is 00:33:14 I'm like, yes, let the propaganda begin because we're not going to see any of that shit for the next nine months. Golded. Facts. He's not going to even play.
Starting point is 00:33:21 What I will say about Ben Simmons, though, I think he be trying, though, like, to get healthy. Nah, yeah, for sure. I seen him, I ran into him in the gym. He, like, we work out like an hour increments. So, like, when I come in the gym, it's like the last 15 minutes of somebody else's workout.
Starting point is 00:33:41 We came in to work out at the same time. I'm thinking, I'm about to work out with this nigga. Nah, he spent that hour like on the table like just getting ready for his workout after mine you know what i'm saying so i was like damn like two things either he his shit really fucked up or like he really trying to get back bro so shout out to him for trying i ain't gonna get out of other stuff oh yeah i know how that shit is as a player it's bullshit nah. It's bullshit because realistically, you can tell, like, he not faking. And that's the thing I don't like about it. I mean, say what you want to about the situation, but you can tell that nigga not faking it.
Starting point is 00:34:12 When it comes to certain stuff like back injuries and stuff like that, that's, like, really severe. Like, you used to look at what Steve Kerr and, like, Phil Jackson, you just couldn't even sit in the chair and coach, bro. You want somebody to go hoop? Yeah, they couldn't. Yeah, he had to take time off, bro. Yeah, bro.
Starting point is 00:34:23 And he's not even hooping. Come on. Nah, back is crazy. Back't. Yeah, he had to take time off, bro. And he's not even hooping. Come on. Nah, back is crazy. Back injuries. Yeah, back injuries could be tough. But I'm just saying, him shooting jumpers and shit.
Starting point is 00:34:32 Like, I was like, you ain't gonna shoot no jumpers in real life. But, nah, shout out to him. I hope he get healthy. Josh Dabney. I'm a fan. No double teaming.

We have a new limited series of my podcast, Deep Cover, out now, all about George Santos, the Republican congressman from New York who told a lot of stories about his life and his credentials, many of which, turns out,
Starting point is 00:37:45 were not true. I would go down these rabbit holes and start thinking about, like, what is the nature of truth? You know, like, what can I actually, like, tell the reader is real about this guy's story?
Starting point is 00:38:20 My phone is literally blowing up inquiries about saying, is George going to jail? What's going on? And I thought, like, why are you doing this? Like, why? Listen to Deep Cover George Santos on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
Starting point is 00:38:39 you listen to podcasts. Now, let's talk about, like, how you came about, like, entering a draft. Like, why you cut to podcasts. Nah, let's talk about like how you came about like entering a draft. Like why you cut out early. Shit was time to go. Who made that decision? Nah, I ran into some it's too long of a story
Starting point is 00:38:57 to tell right now, but I ran into some trouble in college. And I ain't like the way the school handled that at all. Like, I feel like I got thrown under the bus. Yeah. I mean, I take my part in what I did. At the end of the day, I did it.
Starting point is 00:39:13 You know what I'm saying? But, you know, they came to me and they were like, you know, let's walk you through it so we can, you know, find the best way to go about this. So it helps you. It helps the school. Man, I told them everything. And they just, it's like I was talking to NCAA myself.
Starting point is 00:39:30 They just shit right for it. And then like I ended up getting suspended like the first six games of my sophomore year. And then I ended up getting hurt in the exhibition game. I dislocated my finger and the bone came out the skin. So that actually made me miss the first eight games of my sophomore season. So when I came back,
Starting point is 00:39:49 I came back mad. Just like, you know what? I ain't come back to this school next year. That's how I was just like, I'm just going to play like I don't want to come back.
Starting point is 00:39:59 And then after my season, I'm like, bro, because my name entering the year, because I did the USA under-18 team. Yeah, select 19 team. Yeah, after my freshman year, I got invited to that. So then after I did that, my name was on the, you know, on the boys and stuff.
Starting point is 00:40:17 So going into my second year, I'm looking, I'm 23. I was supposed to be going to Utah or something. I think it was 23 to Utah. So like every day I'm in the gym, I'm like, one extra rep. I was a head ass like that. Like, if I got five line jurors, I'm going to Utah or something. I think it was 23rd Utah. So like every day I'm in the gym, I'm like, one extra rep. I was a head ass like that. Like, if I got five line drills,
Starting point is 00:40:29 I'm gonna do six. If I got, I'm gonna do seven. That's it. That's it. You know what I'm saying? I was locked in like that. You just tapped in. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:36 So, so, and then after, that was before I went through what I went through. And then right when that stuff happened, I was like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:40:43 my name was off. I feel like they wiped my name off the surface of the planet. Like, you couldn't find my name on nothing. And not that I was looking at it as like, oh, if it's not there, it ain't gonna happen. But it's still good to see your name every once in a while on the board.
Starting point is 00:40:56 So I stopped looking at the boards and I'm just gonna put my head down, work, and that's what I did my sophomore year. And then after the season, I'm just like, you know what? I'm just gonna go ahead and get up, get up outta here. Yeah. How was your draft process?
Starting point is 00:41:08 Like, did you work up for, obviously, you know what I'm saying? You probably working for a lot of teams. Was there a different team you thought you was already gonna end up with? Nah, see what happened was I had, I had a great draft process. I actually, I was hooping in every, every single one that I was in.
Starting point is 00:41:24 The only one I didn't hoop in was Atlanta. I didn't hoop in Atlanta at all. You weren't trying to be a hawk? Is that where you wanted to go, though? Man. I know you did. And they had pick 19. I went 20.
Starting point is 00:41:37 They told me to go back to school. Damn. Damn, for real? Yeah, they told me to go back to school. They was like, what's the rush? You still got two years. Damn. Two years left.
Starting point is 00:41:45 You thought they would be familiar with you being in, you know what I'm saying, that close of proximity. But I bombed, I ain't gonna lie, I bombed the shit
Starting point is 00:41:50 out of that workout. Nah. They had us there at eight in the morning, but the workout didn't start until like 11. Damn, who was the GM there?
Starting point is 00:41:58 Was it, I can't tell you. I ain't know nobody. I know who it was. Was it solo workout too? Nah, it was still six people. Damn. It was six people. Damn.
Starting point is 00:42:06 It was six people. We did all that testing, testing that we just chill, had breakfast. Then we worked out. But that time, I'm just like, I've been in the gym four hours
Starting point is 00:42:14 and didn't touch no basketball. I don't know if they did that. They probably did that on purpose. That's the setup, man. Yeah. You got to see if you come in focused, man, if you can keep your mind right
Starting point is 00:42:23 while they got all that shit going on. What does that translate to, though? Like, in what, and during the season, at what point were you being in a gym for four hours without teaching basketball
Starting point is 00:42:31 and then just go out there and go hoop? They just try to mentally break you. And that's so crazy because, like, CJ Stroud, when they were talking about him and the poor testing and stuff,
Starting point is 00:42:40 what gives a fuck about a test if you can do your job right? Yeah. I've seen that, too. I'm like, the testing. Yeah. I like what he said though like I don't do tests
Starting point is 00:42:48 I play football yeah facts what are we doing he proved that shit he did oh my goodness nah for real
Starting point is 00:42:55 and he had swag doing it and he felt like his poise like he been doing this for a minute at the NFL level that's what I like about it he took over a franchise
Starting point is 00:43:03 and low key I mean we gotta see what's up with A. Rich I think A. Rich is gonna what I like about it. He took over a franchise and low-key, I mean, we got to see what's up with A. Rich. I think Anthony Rich is going to come back solid, but he low-key took over a division
Starting point is 00:43:09 because before this year, they was all talking about Trevor Lawrence. We ain't heard Trevor Lawrence's name since. That's a good point. I mean, Georgia Tech got a new coach,
Starting point is 00:43:19 Damon Stoudemire. How you feel about the pickup? I feel good, man, because the thing about Tech, right, and I've talked to Damon, too. I, you know, seen him this summer the pickup? I feel good, man. Because the thing about Tech, right? And I've talked to Damon too. I, you know, I seen him this summer when I was in the gym hooping.
Starting point is 00:43:30 I've obviously seen him in the league when he used to coach with the Celtics. Jordan Tech need a coach. And I'm pretty sure his X's and O's are, you know, what they are. I'm not even talking about his X's and O's. They just need a coach that got some pool yeah they know people you know i'm saying it's not like our school's already hard to get in it's hard to stay
Starting point is 00:43:51 in you know what i'm saying and um kids don't kids like like i said i dealt with that shit too i know how it is as a kid like man i gotta i do this work and i was always a good student like my gpa was high in school i was always smart but just having to like man I gotta put you just want to hoop as a kid I don't want to have to go to class and do this essay and be hard as hell you know what I'm saying so but if I know I'm gonna play for a coach who got some league connects who who cool who been in my shoes played in the league did all that stuff I'm like I might be able to be like okay I'm gonna have to I'm gonna deal with the with the school because I can play for that coach. I mean, we ain't had that type of coach in a long time.
Starting point is 00:44:29 That's real. Yeah. And like you said, if you, now you got Adidas now, it's different when you go to a college and you either got that big brand pool or you got it from the coaches, got the connections. You went there, you had a coach who did, made a hat, all the resources, and it was Russell. So you really made that shit work. And he know, like he's been around the league for a long time. So he know what, like, league level stuff look like.
Starting point is 00:44:49 Like, our lounges and our stuff, our facility, like, that's the first thing he's saying. Like, man, that's what y'all shit look like. I'll go there now. This shit looks nice. Like, he broke all that shit down. Like, he broke all that shit down. He put new shit up there.
Starting point is 00:45:03 Like, the lounges look good. The shit actually got snacks. Like like when i was in college like i knew when we had a recruit in town there was snacks in the lounge like you go there some power raises like oh yeah who in town today you got power rays that was the delicacy of georgia tech that was what that was that was what white was on yeah that was on that i'm there too. Man, I'm like, we got Powerade today. Oh, yeah, we got a recruit in town. Them shits lasted two days. They need to destroy that drink. That's probably the worst sports package ever.
Starting point is 00:45:30 I had a big Powerade the other day. That shit was pretty good, bro. Hell, we got Powerade. That's all fucking Pike. Serve at them damn basketball games. That might be all, nigga. Do y'all remember All Sports? The drink?
Starting point is 00:45:43 Yeah, that was trash too. Damn, you ain't fucking All Sports? All Sports was solid. I ain't top 10 with them. That used to be a thing, but those was trash. Damn, whacked. So going through that draft process, making it to the league, you know, played in Minnesota.
Starting point is 00:45:56 I was there with your rookie year. Like, what's the best part about being an NBA player? Like, fuck all the other shit. Like, you living your dream. But what's the best part of it? Uh, I feel like the best part for me, because I'm big on community,
Starting point is 00:46:14 the best part for me is seeing the influence you have on people. Like, and it's funny that you're a high school coach. That's what I want to do
Starting point is 00:46:21 when I'm done playing, to be a high school coach. Because it's like, I know, like like kids, man, they face a lot of problems these days. And, you know, a lot of them don't even be their fault, you know, their kids. But one bad decision can change the course of their life.
Starting point is 00:46:38 And, you know, I was, one time I told this kid, I was like, bro, bro, don't do that. He still takes me to the day, bro. I'm so glad that you told me not to do that. I'm like, damn, I don't even, I didn't even think it meant, like it meant that much to him. You know what I'm saying? But seeing it had a positive impact on somebody and not saying that he would be in a bad position now
Starting point is 00:46:53 if he did do it, but like just seeing that, like that, for me, that's the best part about being in the league. Yeah. That's the worst part. The worst part about being in the league, I would say is like, people don't think you human.
Starting point is 00:47:10 Yeah, they treat you like a... Like, if I go, like, I play video games. If I go stream, first thing they're going to say on the stream is, you ain't shooting threes. Why are you playing video games? You should be in a gym.
Starting point is 00:47:23 I'm like, it don't work like that. This shit don't work like that. Everybody got. I'm like, it don't work like that. It don't work like that. Everybody got work hours, nigga. It don't work like that. Like, bro, I seen you talking about, I seen one of y'all podcast. You told somebody, man, go to sleep. Yeah, bro, like, don't get through so much of life. He's like, man, I don't sleep.
Starting point is 00:47:39 I work out. I be in a gym. I be. And I think, you know, obviously, people look at, you know, when everybody think about, like, working hard, the first person that come to your mind is, like, Kobe and the mama mentality, you know what I'm saying? But I think there's a big difference between not working hard
Starting point is 00:47:55 and being in the gym all, like, there's a spectrum. It is, bro. It's tears, bro. Yeah, just because you're not, like, it's because you're playing video games don't mean you in the gym. Yeah. And it's because you in the gym don't mean you can't have a life.
Starting point is 00:48:11 That's the one thing Derek, when my rookie, Derek Rose, told me this. He was like, he was like, I asked him, I'm like, yo, what's your biggest regret in basketball? And he told me, he was like, my biggest regret is when I was you know coming up i didn't give times to a lot of things that mattered in my life like i was so involved in like if my my
Starting point is 00:48:31 people going to like a concert i wouldn't go because i want to go to the gym or if i wanted to do this i wouldn't go because i want to go to the gym but then you go you fast forward 10 years and all your homies and your family they having having all these memories, you were never a part of no memories. That's right. It's cause you're in the gym and yeah, you getting better, but just, I could have missed that and still did the gym. I mean, I could have went to the events and still went to the gym,
Starting point is 00:48:54 but I was just focused on thinking that if I did do the concert, if I did do that, it would take away from basketball. And that was never the case. That's what he told me. Cause I ain't miss a concert. and that was never the case. That's what he told me.
Starting point is 00:49:04 I ain't miss a concert. I was at every concert at motherfucking State Farm Arena. It was called Phillips Arena back there. I ain't miss a shot. I should have been in the gym. But it comes with it, though, bro. Man, you get your ass on that stream, it's a motherfucker coming, see?
Starting point is 00:49:22 That's why that nigga missed all them shots. Yeah, that's why he missed all that. That nigga fucked up my parlay because he played too good. Man. You got out
Starting point is 00:49:30 at the right time, bro. No, no, no. These niggas with the parlays now, bro. Nah. These niggas booed me in Milwaukee because I grabbed
Starting point is 00:49:39 a rebound from Bobby Portis. I'm thinking they start chanting Bobby, Bobby. I'm looking like they start chanting, Bobby, Bobby. I'm looking like, they're like, dude, you fucked that up. You fucked it up.
Starting point is 00:49:50 I'm like, what the fuck up? I got two rebounds. Man, now that that banner is illegal in so many more states, bro, I mean, I'll tell you a story. I ain't gonna tell you what teammate, bro.
Starting point is 00:50:01 One of my teammates, the nigga got in at the end of the game, scored four straight. He was probably in the game for like, I don't know, a minute, scored four points, got to it. He got a DM. And he barely
Starting point is 00:50:16 played. I know who it is. He got a DM. He was like, why did you score? They went, and they told it no cap. The end, they're like, why did you score? You're, and they told it, no cap, the end, they're like, why did you score?
Starting point is 00:50:27 You're the reason why I'm still racist. I'm like, what? When niggas don't score, it's a problem. When niggas score, it's a problem.
Starting point is 00:50:40 I think he said it was a problem. Because I guess he fucked up the spread or something. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I know, I know, but that's what I'm saying, though. He went in the game, and he did his thing.
Starting point is 00:50:50 He did his job. He did his thing. He scored 100% from the field. Shout out to that black man. But he is fucking up. That person that said that to him, fuck them. But your man's getting there. The four points he need his ass his asshole from scoring the four points.
Starting point is 00:51:09 Because he probably fucked up a lot of points. He did. With the pointless ass four points. That's what I'm saying. But he looking at it like, look, when you at that type, I ain't going to say that type of player, but when you a player who don't play a lot, every minute you play is precious.
Starting point is 00:51:22 Because if you get four points, coach might be like, okay, you might get like four minutes of garbage time next time. You scored ten points. Then niggas might knock on wood. It might be a situation when a lot of people aren't playing. Coach is like, okay, he has scored four points. He's scored ten points. People ain't playing. Coach has a little bit of trust.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Throw him out there, maybe coming off the bench. Now he going crazy, but that started because of that game he had four points. No, J.O., look. I'm talking to you. I know parlay, man. That's your points, man. Y'all got to understand why niggas be tight.
Starting point is 00:51:53 Niggas be on edge, and that's why niggas be thinking the shit is real, because it's like, y'all didn't even think about putting this nigga in the game. This nigga in the game to score four points. But also, if you do parlays, use DraftKings. That's fair. That's fair. That's fair. Shout out to them. Niggas bet on me all the time.
Starting point is 00:52:09 I say, look, if y'all bet on me, do not let me know, bro, because they be trying to tell me, J.O., that three you missed in the third quarter? I'm like, bro, don't tell me about no bets. I don't want to hear no bets. Don't come to me about no advice. Yo, but what's your usual, though, bro? Are you plus, what?
Starting point is 00:52:27 What are you? I tell you what, bet the under. What? So I can have a good game in this bitch. Bet the under. Hey, shit be like my boy LSU. He ready. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 00:52:37 What he do? What he do? Oh, my gosh. I'm going to fuck his name up, though. He was betting on himself? Yes, bro. Oh, he wild. Bro, he got, he went, He went up half a mil, bro.
Starting point is 00:52:47 Like 600K in earnest, bro. What? They just caught his ass and arrested him. They just caught him. He got arrested, bro. I downloaded FanDuel. No, he played football. Oh, he was wild.
Starting point is 00:52:56 Yeah, he played football. And he played with the Patriots. They caught him after he did that. They caught him after, bro. He was up 500 bands, bro. Betting on himself. But I watch football all the time. So I'm about to start betting on this shit in this football.
Starting point is 00:53:06 I download a FanDuel, made an account. The next day they suspended my account and said, we got to verify. Send a picture with your name or your ID and a date. I'm like, but I ain't finished sending FanDuel a selfie, bro. So I'm like, bro.
Starting point is 00:53:18 Shit went with DraftKings. That's why I ain't even, that's why I probably going to do DraftKings. You got to use the burner account. No, don't do that. No, just don't bet at all that's why I don't bet nah for real though
Starting point is 00:53:27 cause like working for the Pacers they do a monthly thing they send your name through a database and if your shit come up it is non-negotiable
Starting point is 00:53:35 we don't give a fuck what it is you out the door so even if you bet on like football if you want nah you can do other sports
Starting point is 00:53:42 you just can't do anything NBA related I mean that's across the board. You can't bet on NBA, WNBA, G League. You can't bet on WNBA? Huh?
Starting point is 00:53:51 Shout out. No, you can't. NBA, WNBA, 2K League, NBA. There's one more.
Starting point is 00:53:57 There's something that's the basketball league. Oh, okay. Whatever the NBA owns, you can't bet on. Yeah, I couldn't gamble on J. Cole.
Starting point is 00:54:07 Take the under. J. Cole's a real one to know it. We didn't put him in the conversation. That nigga was over there 16 games and came back home. I ain't gonna lie, but you gotta love basketball to go to Africa to go hoop when you come to the United States. You can't say that. You can't say that. I can say it because I've hooped in Africa. I can't say it.
Starting point is 00:54:25 Because I've hooped in Africa. I've been there, bro. And I've hooped in Africa, bro. What's it like to hoop in Africa? Bro, I kid you not. See how I'm making this up? Y'all making this up. I wasn't even trying to make it, bro.
Starting point is 00:54:42 I'm trying to tell you. The conditions, bro. It's different. Y'all making this sound like I wasn't even trying to make it, bro. I'm trying to tell you. The conditions, bro. Oh, my God. No, we're not doing this. Listen, listen, listen. Listen, bro. You know what, Josh? Fuck that.
Starting point is 00:55:00 Take your black ass back to Nigeria when you done hooping and coach high school basketball over there. No, what I'm saying, no, this is what I am saying, bro. This is what I'm saying. Because y'all trying to, y'all, y'all.
Starting point is 00:55:11 What's the conditions, bro? What's the conditions, bro? I'm saying the conditions, like, I'm not saying nothing other than basketball. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like,
Starting point is 00:55:20 I'll give you a perfect example. Hello. We had like an Olympic qualifying, qualifying tournament in Nigeria, right? So they set up the court in a convention center. And they put hardwood on carpet. They did that here before. Yeah, we had that.
Starting point is 00:55:38 But like, okay, but this is to get to the Olympics. The shit you put on that, that shit wants to get to the damn Olympics. But y'all got a different type of build, bro. Some of the strongest people come from your homeland. A thousand percent, bro. I feel like
Starting point is 00:55:51 if we are able and that's why I love what, you know, what the NBA is doing investing in Africa with the Bachelor of Africa League. Because I feel like
Starting point is 00:55:58 if you can get like there's a lot of players in Africa who have given a fair chance. But if the conditions we have here, if you take that over there, it's going to be Embiid's, Giannis' every year.
Starting point is 00:56:08 Every year, bro. I kid you not. But it's just so, and basketball is not really like a fan favorite over there. You know, soccer is king. So because it's not, you're not going to see a lot of people putting their money into development in basketball. That's why you seen that one kid, I know
Starting point is 00:56:24 he went viral he'd be working out like he he got like the tires and like the water water jugs and he's going crazy working out because like there's nowhere else to go to to do that stuff that's why i said for j cole to leave america and go to africa and go play over there that means he really loves basketball yeah because you're not playing over there if you don't love it. That's a fact. That's what I was trying to say. He was making a sacrifice. No, it was funny how you said it.
Starting point is 00:56:48 It was funny how I said it. Because I was like, look, he should be better. Because Master P was in the G League. Shit. Yeah, that's true. He did. That's true. Y'all crazy, man.
Starting point is 00:56:59 We got to talk about it, though. You talked about it, man. Obviously, with your current team now, y'all going crazy. You know what I'm saying? Y'all at full strength, looking scary. How was it last year? You was on that team, and then you realized, oh, shit, we about to get KD. I remember where I was, but I can't tell y'all.
Starting point is 00:57:14 I can't say it. But I was. Allegations. I was like, you know, it's Atlanta, so I'm in Atlanta. Oh, he was at Magic. Uh-oh, no. He was at Magic. I was not at Magic City, bro. He was at Magic was at Magic uh oh I was not at Magic senior year
Starting point is 00:57:26 he was at Magic but nah I was not at Magic but I was I was chilling cause you know all my homies I'm chilling with the homies
Starting point is 00:57:32 and stuff definitely and bro my phone and trades ain't supposed to happen
Starting point is 00:57:39 that late but that shit was the latest trade Josh Josh Josh come on I was not at Magic training I was supposed to happen that late I was supposed to happen That shit was the latest trade. Josh. Josh. You tell him, tell him, Josh. Josh. Come on.
Starting point is 00:57:47 I was not in that city, They're supposed to happen that late. I was supposed to happen that late, This is my room. I know where you was at. We trying to work with you. No,
Starting point is 00:57:54 no, no. I'm chilling, bro. And I'm like, and I'm like, dang. And I wasn't even playing
Starting point is 00:58:00 at this part of the season. So I'm like, man, I'm just chilling with my homeboys. And I see the trade So I'm like, man, I'm just chilling with my homeboys and I see the trade. I'm like, first thing I do,
Starting point is 00:58:09 I call my agent. First of all, that was the trade deadline that was in Atlanta. So my agent called me three hours before. We had, because we had like
Starting point is 00:58:18 a team dinner that night in Atlanta. The whole team was there for dinner. Niggas were scary as motherfuckers. So, we had dinner.
Starting point is 00:58:27 My agent called me during dinner. I'm like, I'll be right back, y'all. Scared as a motherfucker. What? I go to the bathroom. I'm like, hello? He's like, I just want to make sure you're okay. I'm like, bro, do not call me no more, bro.
Starting point is 00:58:42 Until after the deadline, bro. What? So then I go back to dinner and do my thing, you know what I'm saying? And, you know, it was like the open dinner where, like, you know, you can invite, like, your homies. We the homies chilling.
Starting point is 00:58:51 And trade happened. And I'm like, bro, what? And that's like I said, all that popped up was Phoenix Suns acquired Kevin Durant. So I'm like, who did the other team acquire?
Starting point is 00:59:03 So then I called my agent, make sure I'm still straight. He was like, yeah, you still there for now? I mean, you know, sometimes other stuff happen under that. So then I'm like, okay, all right, cool. So we heard that Mikael and Cam and J you know, Mikael, Cam and Jay Crowder. You know, he was part of that trade and like some picks or whatever. And it was so sad because like,
Starting point is 00:59:33 if you know anything about Phoenix basketball, you can't say Phoenix basketball without like Mikael and Cam, they call them the twins. They still call them twins. Like them, you know, the epitome of Phoenix basketball. So we was at the hotel and we just had like a one last like kumbaya and it was all in the hallway just like joking laughing just trying to console them because they were man they were man they were sick but shout out to them because they hooping right now yeah they hooping in the nets over
Starting point is 00:59:59 there in New York but they were so they were so sad man it was sad to see them go um But I told my homeboy, I got to go to sleep, bro, because I might be playing tomorrow. Which is crazy because we actually played. We didn't have nobody playing, bro, because Dario got traded that morning and went to OKC. So, and Book at that time was hurt. I think that was CP first game back. So, it was like eight people playing.
Starting point is 01:00:27 That's the best. Was it, bro? I was playing a lot, bro. I was hooping. I love playing Atlanta. Yeah, you always had. When we was, when y'all rookie year,
Starting point is 01:00:35 you had a good game in Atlanta. Yeah. I just always loved playing Atlanta just because I'd just be remembering my draft workout. You'd be like, okay, man. I told y'all, you big niggas are the pettiest people on earth.
Starting point is 01:00:44 Y'all have been through something. It ain't petty. It's just like, it, man. I told y'all, y'all ain't bad niggas. Y'all have been from something. It ain't petty. It's just like, it's motivation. It's like anything with life, though. Say you go, you're working for Deloitte or something, and Deloitte drop you, and then another consultancy agency hires you, and then y'all get the
Starting point is 01:00:59 big contract over Deloitte. You're going to be flexing on Deloitte. It's just a natural, it's just natural. I don't even know who said that about meitte. Oh, for sure. It's just a natural, it's just natural. Like, I don't even know who said that about me when I was, I don't even remember. It's just something in my mind. Everybody got to pay for it.
Starting point is 01:01:10 Yeah. Put that chip on your shoulder. Welcome. That's how Gigi Jackson did, Steph Curry did. My fucker. Oh, yeah. He unabided him from the camp.
Starting point is 01:01:19 Yeah, he unabided him. Yeah. Steph Curry was like, shit, we was already full, bro. We had to let some people go. Gigi was like, yeah, it's cool. That's why he went crazy. But that ain't invite him. Yeah. Steph Curry was like, shit, we was already full, bro. We had to let some people go. He was just like, yeah, it's cool. That's why he went crazy.
Starting point is 01:01:28 Ain't a lie, that's years of plotting right there. That's years of plotting. You really don't forget. You're different. That's funny, because even with you, I know some people used to go at,
Starting point is 01:01:38 even I had known that before, but the Reggie Jackson is always funny. It's only Reggie Jackson, bro. Anytime I see Reggie Jackson, it's always me. That team probably one of the funniest teammates I ever had, bro. We're all ranking funniest teammates, bro. Anytime I see Reggie Jackson, I always look. T probably one of the funniest teammates I ever had, bro.
Starting point is 01:01:46 We're all ranking funniest teammates, bro. It's funny. I tell things all the time, bro. You top three. You top three. That's hot. That's hot. And I've had a lot of teammates, gang.
Starting point is 01:01:59 I've had a lot of teammates. I mean, he's a motherfucker fool. Yes. Minnesota too? Let me tell you a thing about T. He mean, he's a motherfucking fool. Yes. Minnesota too? Bro, let me tell you, let me tell you a thing about T.
Starting point is 01:02:08 He's an instigator, bro. Ah, shit. So, so, so, shit me. We had this, we had, we had this, I had a,
Starting point is 01:02:16 we had a teammate, shout out Jared Bayless. I just ran into Jared Bayless a couple weeks ago. Oh yeah, Phoenix, Phoenix. Yeah, he is Phoenix.
Starting point is 01:02:22 Man, Jared was, first of all, he wasn't even my natural vet because he got traded to the team at the jimmy bella trade yeah he just took up all the vet ownership of the team like you know i had and i when i came in the league it was like the tail end of the old nba when teams had like were a lot older. Now teams want to go younger. When I came in, like, teams were still older. Like, you know, Teague, that was his 10th year in the league. I had D Rose, Taj Gibson, Anthony Tolliver.
Starting point is 01:02:54 I seen ATS today. Anthony Tolliver, who else was on the team? Luau Dane. Like, I had an old team, you know what I'm saying? And after me, like, the next youngest guy was Cat and Tyus Jones. That's how old our team was, you know what I'm saying? And after me, like the next youngest guy was Cat and Tyra Jones. That's how old our team was. You know what I'm saying? So when we got to the league, it was just me and Kata.
Starting point is 01:03:10 And Kata spent a lot of time in the G League. So basically, I was the only rookie for like five vets. So it was smooth. And I was a good rookie. I didn't have no attitude. One time Teague sent me on a trip. He wanted some candy at 12 in the morning in cleveland cvs one opening to say i had to go to the suburbs i drove 20 minutes to
Starting point is 01:03:32 the suburbs in the uber to get some candy uber didn't wait on me then i had to wait you know in the suburbs in cleveland i had to wait 20 minutes for the car to get back and then take me back to the city oh okay was this regular that's so lovely so jared bayless man he used to just like he used to just like do this so i'm a popcorn in your car if you don't do this i'm a popcorn car and i just got my my my array of range I'm a popcorn car. And I had just got my, my, my array range. Man,
Starting point is 01:04:04 I ain't, I ain't want nothing. So whatever, man, whatever they told me to do, bro, I did it. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:04:12 But Teague, sometimes he will be like, but Teague, he a good individual at heart. So he wouldn't want to do none of me pause, but he know if Jerry gonna do something, he gonna instigate. So Jerry,
Starting point is 01:04:23 he be like, yo, Jerry, you ain't gonna believe what J.O. just did. He would tell all this shit to Jared. And then Jared be like, J.O.? Oh, that's true. We going to go popcorn this nigga car. And I mean, that bitch.
Starting point is 01:04:35 Because I used to talk a lot, right? I was like outgoing, vibrant. As soon as they say popcorn in my car, I'll be in my seat. Like, I won't say a word. The rest of the plane trip. We all on a plane trip. I'm over here like this. That nigga bought a book,
Starting point is 01:04:48 bro. That nigga told, that nigga Jared Bayless, he said, he said, shout out Michelle Obama, he said, oh,
Starting point is 01:04:56 Michelle Obama's book will come in. Hey bro, go give me five copies. I'm like, who the fuck want five copies of the same book?
Starting point is 01:05:05 So I bought five copies for him. He gave me one copy back. He said he got a month to read it. And if you don't read it, I'm going to popcorn your car. That's some bullshit, dude. That nigga was walking around with that book, nigga.
Starting point is 01:05:15 Before the games, my legs crossed in my locker before the game. Niggas listen to music, getting tape. Nigga, I'm reading my book, bro. I'm like, nigga, why the fuck you reading
Starting point is 01:05:22 this weekend's book? I swear to God, why you reading this shit? He was like, doesn't matter. I'm reading my book, bro. I'm like, why the fuck you reading this weekend's book? I swear to God, why you reading this shit? He was like, doesn't matter. Why you reading this shit? I ain't from the popcorn market. He said,
Starting point is 01:05:31 I just got out of school, nigga said, and after, I'm going to test you on it. Nigga, no cap, nigga gave me a test. The nigga gave me a test, bro.
Starting point is 01:05:39 What the fuck was your advance on, man? That's his own bullshit. He used to come in and sue every game, bro. Sue every game. He was just a professional. He was to come in and suit every game, bro. Suit every game. He was just a professional. He was one of the most
Starting point is 01:05:47 professional teammates I ever had. Facts. He was a professional-ass motherfucker. Arizona legend. We got respect for Jerry. Let's show.
Starting point is 01:05:52 He wore a suit to the club with me and, I wish Jay Luke was here. He wore a suit to the club with me and Jay Luke when we was about to get beat up by the, who the people that run
Starting point is 01:06:00 Minnesota? The African people. The Somalians. Oh. Damn. Nigga, they was on our ass. How the fuck you get it all down?
Starting point is 01:06:09 I didn't. They was 60 deep. And J.O., I mean, J. Luke looked like one of them. Yeah. So they like, Tony, Tony though.
Starting point is 01:06:17 No, J. Luke does not look Somalian. I can't wait to tell him you just said that shit. No, he did. Because they was like, what's up to him? And he ain't say
Starting point is 01:06:24 what's up back. And they look at him like, what's up to him? And he ain't say what's up back. And they look at him like, what the fuck? Like, nigga, you... Nigga. Dang, you're what? Man, I didn't grab the bottle. Minnesota dangerous ass city, bro.
Starting point is 01:06:33 Yeah, Florida guy. You might not think it is, bro. That trip into Minnesota is crazy. That nigga J-Luke grabbed a Hennessy bottle, nigga. I'm like, what the fuck you got going on? Swear to God,

And then Stacey Adams. They got Jared. I'm like, they got Jared. So me and J. Luke did right out the club. Man, that nigga Jared all the way down the street. Then you see the motherfucking Stacey Adams. See them Stacey Adams clean
Starting point is 01:07:01 out the whole shit. We yelling that shit. That shit was funny, bro. But it's the funniest, I think, me and Jeff story, bro. So we pull up to Portland, I think, and we was gone for like 10 days, like a little 10-day road trip. So our per diem was looking high. Probably got like, I don't know, 2K, 1,500 2K in per diem. like, I don't know, 2K, 1500 2K in per diem. And you know, being a rookie, you know, T's always look out like,
Starting point is 01:07:29 give me some of the bread for his per diem, D Rose, some of the guys that give me some of the bread for the per diem. So T used to always play his game on the road, but this specific trip, he forgot his game at home. So he said, J-O, hey man, can you go to the store and can you go give me a and he'll give me a xbox and then give me 2k then give me madden and i need a controller too i'm like bet i got you but i
Starting point is 01:07:53 didn't have no i ain't had no issue doing shit like that and i'm like all right i got you bro he gave me the whole per diem it's like like i said like 20 to 2000 i go to uh gamestop so i'm looking at all the different games, and I'm like, let me get that used one right here. I said, let me get that used Xbox. But I ain't trying to be cheap, bro. No.
Starting point is 01:08:14 I'm trying to get it. I'm like, this... No, no, no. I can't... No, no. Listen, bro. I'm like, the nigga already got an Xbox. What the fuck does he need a new one for?
Starting point is 01:08:24 You know what I'm saying? He just need one for as long as he need a new one that's what I'm saying he just need one he just need one for the trip so I got the used Xbox but he gave you two bands
Starting point is 01:08:33 wait wait wait did you get the used games too I can't remember I don't remember no they was new games they was new games okay that's cool
Starting point is 01:08:40 so so I it was the funniest shit cause the game didn't come in the Xbox box it came in an Xbox box. It came in like a GameStop box. Like a green or a white box. So, I come to the hotel room.
Starting point is 01:08:53 He say, because, you know, Jeff, he like, just knock on my door when you're here and you can leave. You don't got to give it to him. So, I dropped the box and it was open. It had the system, the wires. That shit would get over there. It had the wires on that shit.
Starting point is 01:09:05 The controller, the games. I knock on his door. Go to my room. Finally, the wires. That shit would get over there. It had the wires on that shit. The controller, the games. I knock on his door. Go to my room. Finally, the nigga called me. J.O., you gave me a used Xbox, bro? I was like, yeah, you said you just needed something to play on the road. He was like, bro, I gave you two bands.
Starting point is 01:09:21 He's like, all right, bro. All right, bro. So that was it, right? The nigga, bro, the nigga, because he was upset. You know what I'm saying? Get on the bus tomorrow.
Starting point is 01:09:36 Hey, J.O., man, you can't believe what the nigga J.O. did. You can't do that shit. You can't do that shit. You ain't gonna believe what J.O. did, man. I gave this nigga two bands. All that shit, he could have said to me. You know what I'm saying? All the mad shit, he could have said to me.
Starting point is 01:09:53 He waited till we got on the bus where everybody was like, you ain't going to believe, man. I gave this nigga two bands. He gave me a used Xbox, used controllers, bro. And then everybody was like, oh, man, yo, we just going to have to popcorn this nigga's car. Now I'm sad as fuck, man. In my corner, I got to go on my shell, bro. And then everybody was like, oh, man, yo, we just going to have to popcorn this nigga car. Now I'm sad as fuck again.
Starting point is 01:10:07 In my corner, I got to go on my shell, bro. I'll wear an outfit to the game, bro. I'll wear an outfit to the game. This is when I was trying to put that shit on, but I already, you know, when you friends get money, you just buying whatever you think look nice. Nigga, I'm getting, true story. I'm in a training room, reading my room reading my book, getting my table time. Niggas is passing the phone laughing.
Starting point is 01:10:30 Just giggling, looking at me giggling. I'm like, what the fuck these niggas laughing at? And him and Tyus, bro, them niggas used to play games on me all the time. Try to make me look like the funniest nigga, right? So it was Ty's phone. They looking at Ty's phone. It was like, nah, they say, you gonna see what we laughing at.
Starting point is 01:10:52 I'm like, but let me see. I grabbed the phone. Nigga, they took my outfit and taped it to the wall. The shirt hanging out up top. The jeans hanging out under the shirt. And then they put the shoes on the bottom. And then they put up shoes on the bottom and then they put up match the pot
Starting point is 01:11:07 they put a piece of paper put match the pot type of outfit so I'm like what the fuck I put my book down I walk out I see
Starting point is 01:11:16 I see I look out in the locker room my whole outfit just taped to the fucking wall and I had to do that bro I'm like
Starting point is 01:11:23 who the fuck did this they was like they was like JL and then that's J Luke and Luke did fuck did this it was like it was like jail and then just jay luke luke did that shit jay luke was like jo i gotta teach a little something man that trash yeah he like that outfit right there that's how you talk that outfit right there man that trash man i'm like i thought i put that on too i'm walking slow coming out the bus it was like a silk shirt with some 11 lows it was looking skinny jeans it was bad i think it grew like he grew into himself no that was bad though for real that shit was bad except with the 11s
Starting point is 01:12:00 and then the top of it all off t go yeah, and every road trip, this box, he's just going to carry it with you. He said, if we go from city to city, because I used to carry my game too. If we go from city to city, he's like, before you get on the bus, I'm going to leave my box outside my door. Come pick it up. Then the next city, come drop it off. When we go home, keep it at home. pick it up. Then the next city,
Starting point is 01:12:22 come drop it off. When we go home, keep it at home. And then when we come out on the road, since you want to give me a used Xbox, just carry it around with you. So I used to have
Starting point is 01:12:31 the used Xbox box here. And my ex-boyfriend, I used to walk in. He had that nice shit, though. He had like a whole system. Man, I used to walk around. He thought I was an equipment manager.
Starting point is 01:12:40 I used to walk around my room. That was my nigga, man. He was always good. And then, funny thing, one time, one of my homeboys, his Xbox room. He my nigga, man. He was always good. And then, funny thing, one time, one of my homeboys, his Xbox broke.
