Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:47 My name is Brendan Patrick Hughes, host of Divine Intervention. This is a story about radical nuns in combat boots and wild haired priests trading blows with J. Okay, okay. I see you, I was rushing. I was rushing. Shout out to the guys. He got a wrestling shirt on too. I know, I did, shout out to Kane, shout out to Pac-Man. You got me together.
Starting point is 00:02:56 You got me together. Shout out to everybody who believed in Kane when I'm talking about it. It's me, I'm Niggaz. For sure. I still believe in something. Yeah, I still think they relate it. Y'all still believe it's something. It's something.
Starting point is 00:03:06 It's something. It's something. It's something. For sure. Somebody write my dog, Young Nacho, Young T. I'm chilling, man. Happy another day. You know me, I'm in heaven right now in WWE, WrestleMania.
Starting point is 00:03:16 It's my first WrestleMania, but y'all know I'm a huge fan, so I'm hyped. Appreciate Chyna for bringing us out here, but I'm gonna let you do the honors. Come on, man. Shout out to Chyna one time for the one time, man. It's all the right, man. We got some champions out here since we out here, but I'm gonna let you do the honors. Come on man, shout out to Tom. One time for the one time, man. It's all the right, man. We got some champions out here since we out here for WrestleMania, man. Long overdue episode, man. You know what it is, Street Fighter, excuse me, Street Poppin.
Starting point is 00:03:33 That's that liquor from last night. You still spilling it? Oh man, what's going on, man? Street Fighters, man. Street Fighters, man. Street Fighters, man. Street Fighters, man. Street Fighters, man.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Street Fighters. You know what I'm saying? We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it.
Starting point is 00:03:41 We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. We're gonna get it. we're gonna get it. We're about to have fun.
Starting point is 00:03:46 Hey, some beat up the Gorgias for me, y'all. Everybody give me a hug. We promise a chance to the building. Appreciate y'all slide through, man. Thanks for having us, man. This is dope. Nah, I love, man. We appreciate y'all for real.
Starting point is 00:03:58 We know y'all tapped in, man. We heard y'all had some words with BM, man. Y'all see him on the internet talking about his profession, man. Let's get straight to it. We ain't even gonna play with that. Hey, man, they starting out hot, bro. And I, uh, I fuck, y'all see him on the internet talking about his profession, man. Let's get into it, we ain't even hit today. Hey man, you starting out hot, bro. And I, I fuck with y'all, you know what I'm saying? But what I, I hate clips.
Starting point is 00:04:13 It got, took out a proportion of what I said. I ain't backing down, I'm standing on what I said. What you say? I went to a wrestling match, and a motherfucker swung him, he missed, and the motherfucker fell. I'm not wrong for being mad at that. My brother paid good money for that shit. Shout out to the entertainment, but I was pissed. Shout out to y'all, y'all journey,
Starting point is 00:04:34 but that was some bullshit when I was eight years old. So that's why I said, you know, that shit was fake. I just told y'all about my experience yesterday when the motherfucker really got punched. And they went in the motherfucker ring. Bro, so, so shout out to y'all. And bro, they, they, you know, educate me about it like,
Starting point is 00:04:55 cause they, we went to Royal Rumble to see, shout out to J.R.E. So, big oos. We see somebody, who was it that got their head put through the ladder? Kevin, Kevin Ong. Y'all about thought he died. So that kind of woke me up, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:05:08 To say, okay, some of this shit, majority of it is for real, for real. This contact is for real, so. I mean, now I'm thinking about it. You said he fell by the force. You didn't go see no wrestler. You went to go see Darth Vader at this point, man. Like, that's probably what you saw.
Starting point is 00:05:21 I mean, he just fell like that. You just couldn't believe your eyes. You couldn't believe your eyes, man. You know what I'm saying? You didn't believe. Oh, okay. Is that what probably happened? It ain't.
Starting point is 00:05:31 It ain't. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Try again, man. You know what I'm saying? No, I ain't. It ain't. No. No. No. Nah, I was telling y'all, they took him to him. Bro, he a big fan, you know what I'm saying? So he what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:05:45 They took him to him, bro, he a big fan, you know what I'm saying? So he helped, you know, it just caved me on the shit. So I definitely salute what y'all do. And I always tell people too, that's very hard for them to understand about it. You got to think about like your favorite Hollywood movies, right? Like you see Fast and Furious, you see all these action movies, but these action movies they put together, that's in multiple takes. Like we out there live. Like live, one take. all these action movies, but these action movies they put together, that's in multiple takes.
Starting point is 00:06:05 We out there live. Like live, one take. So if something happens, the magic of it is getting back on course and getting everybody emotionally involved back into it. But we go out there on one take, we get one take and that's what the fans see. So I compare it to a live movie,
Starting point is 00:06:24 but it's like one take, if that makes any sense. It's definitely a beautiful art to it. You know, like I compare it to like a live movie, but it's like one take. If that makes any sense. It's definitely a beautiful art to it. That's what I was trying to tell them. I'm like, man, it's art. Like I'm playing basketball. Like you said, you got teammates and whatever, but you can mess up on a basketball court.
Starting point is 00:06:37 Nobody knows cause you make a mistake, but it's like viewed on national TV all the time. Rewind it, rewind it. That's a tough job, but y I'd do a great job at it. But before we go any further, I watched last night. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:53 TLC is on the way. Yeah. I'm excited. Table of Letters and Cheers, I got a match coming up. Yeah. With the Warriors. It should be interesting. What's it?
Starting point is 00:07:03 TLC, what is it? Table of Letters and Cheers. Okay, I was thinking, you know who I was be interesting. What's it? TLC, what is it? Take a look at the last one. Take a look at the last one. Cheers. You know who I was thinking about. What you thinking about, Sexy? You think it's up to you. I was thinking about all that.
Starting point is 00:07:10 Stop. Don't go, don't go, don't go, don't go. Don't go too high to my height. Hey. See, I'm learning. See, I'm learning. I'm learning. Yeah, they call it TLC match.
Starting point is 00:07:21 And actually, this year is the 25th anniversary of like the first one they did actually at WrestleMania. Oh, it's not the... Oh yeah. It's cool that we actually... It's going to be a fun time. Yeah, it's cool that we actually a part of it, walking in as champions, you know, to try to make history.
Starting point is 00:07:36 So it's dope, man. Like I've been watching this as a kid too. So to see us like watching it as kids and then now being part of the 25th anniversary is like mind blown. You know, it's like, it's mind-blowing. It feels like you blink, and all this just goes by so fast. You go from being a fan to now being an employee. So.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Yeah, for sure. While you're there, I was gonna ask you, who's the one and somebody I've heard wrestlers growing up, or some people you rock with? Man, I was always the rock, man. The Rock, Booker T, Stone Cold, Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Kurt Angle. I feel like everybody brought so many different elements to wrestling that made me like them.
Starting point is 00:08:09 I love Brock when he first came in, the aggression he brought. He was just a monster. Just like a balling people. And obviously the Hardy boys, all the tag teams, because everybody brought different elements to wrestling and made you feel something. Even with basketball and other sports, it's so hard to say who's your favorite point guard of all time, who's your favorite center of all time,
Starting point is 00:08:32 because everybody had they like, possessed to it. So, yeah. That's dope. Man, I gotta go with obviously the Rock, Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, Brock, the Hardy Boys, Too Cool. Shout out to Hunter too. Gotta shout out to Hunter. Just got inducted to the Hall of Fame
Starting point is 00:08:53 and to emotionally have fans involved and make you not like you for such a long period of time. And you evoke that emotion. And like I said, shout out to him and congrats again on the Hall of Fame induction. Way past doing well deserved. Also, I would definitely like to shout out Hunter for this reason right here.
Starting point is 00:09:12 I can't tell you how many beat downs from my mom I got because of you, Sean, Road Dogg and Billy. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? Suck it. You know. DX baby. Yeah, elementary school, middle school.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Yeah, I got a lot of detentions. A lot of suspensions. You was all around school throwing up the, boom! Yup. Suck it! Yeah. It's insane and it's crazy.
Starting point is 00:09:36 I definitely got suspending for that. I mean, we still, like, even now, we still like throw the dresser up a little bit. And it's vicious too. Like, suck it, you know, it's like, dang, man. This is how we get paid for it, though. Yeah, yeah. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:09:48 We're getting detention to get paid for it. You know what I'm saying? That's a hell of a up-grade. See that? We turned out come and in come, you know? No, push up, push up. The crazy thing about it is they weren't wrong, because we was really wild.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Yeah. We are not supposed to be doing that in school. No, no, no, no. I don't think those two words really need to be telling the young gentleman at that age, you know. But it was all fun and games and it's like, like I said, like those are the memories they gave us and like we're just trying to basically do the same thing now. For sure.
Starting point is 00:10:16 It just give more memories, but like more memories in a new form. Like obviously time has changed now. Like you know, the world's different from how it was when we was watching it. So just trying to add to that element now. That's dope, man. I wanted to ask y'all a question, man, because obviously, you know what I'm saying? Rillin' be handed to this rest of the world.
Starting point is 00:10:33 The Travis Scott situation is hilarious because he really stole on Buddy. Yeah. So when you talking about him using the force, that's obviously something that's like, nah, bro. That was, hey, yo, that eardrum was messed up. Yeah. Bop! Oh, like, actually nah bro. That was, hey, yo, that ear drum was messed up. Yeah. BAM!
Starting point is 00:10:46 Oh, they did it! Honestly, you'd rather be that way than to be the force. The force. We're so next, so. What's that RIP C supposed to be like? That's what they call him when you return a favor. So, like, you can't do nothing to Travis Scott. Yes, you can.
Starting point is 00:11:02 No, you can't. You can't get his ass, bro. See, look, this is my problem with Ristler. I'm gonna let you guys pay. I mean, you know, make sure sure I make a trip to one of these. So when they feed feed feed, we just hopped out right there. I mean, hey, look, look, there was one time I had to give a receipt back. You know what I'm saying? A couple years ago, Braun Strowman had made his return. He beat everybody up. He put me through the announce table.
Starting point is 00:11:43 And then we ended up having to wrestle him again a couple of years ago in LA. And so that was like one of the craziest moments. I feel like that WrestleMania was when I hitsticked him. I trucked his ass. Smoked him. So you got your lick back. Oh yeah, I got my lick back.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Okay, see? Receipt. I do go have some new lingo, so receipt is when you get your lick back. Yeah. Okay, I'll take that. You point up to his job. You know, he back at city.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Hey, yo, hey, pull up to my job. You know what I'm saying? I'll pull up to his, what's up? I mean, I'm gonna have to fight through like 50 security guards, you know what I'm saying, and all that. But hey, you know what I'm saying, I play football. You know what I'm saying, I got some moves, you know what I'm saying, moves, you know what I'm saying? And all that, but hey, you know what I'm saying? I play football, you know what I'm saying? I got some moves, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:12:26 Moves, you know what I'm saying? Hey, y'all play a little basketball tour, got a little crossover in. Sizzle! Who is you a linebacker? Lime, man. Much way bigger than what I am now. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:12:36 And he rocked with Ohio State, so. Yes, sir! Me and that's where we connect. That's where we connect, you know what I mean? That's why they made me be in Ohio State. You know what time it is in the middle's what it means to be in Ohio State. You know what time it is in the middle of the year? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:47 I'm gonna die hard in Ohio State, man. I've seen this man cry on like certain games. Well, actually, it's been the last couple of years because Miz has been making y'all day again. Damn. So, I love you, man. They had a moment this year, bro. I love you, bro.
Starting point is 00:13:03 We got a chance. I love you, man, but I just want to tell like the chance. I just want to tell you the truth. I just want to tell you the truth. This is where he don't want to go at it with me, okay? You know what I'm saying? He was at my house, you know what I'm saying, when the Bears made it to the playoffs with Mitch Trevisky at quarterback.
Starting point is 00:13:19 You know what I'm saying? I think we believe Matt Nagy was the head coach. And I forgot the kid's name, the kicker. He missed the kick. My man was sitting there just. And then I was like, in your arms, I'm an angel.
Starting point is 00:13:37 I was like, hey, bro, this is gonna be your ass. You a very hot. You a pair of slaps. Oh, you been going through the real thing. But you see, first off, he knew it was March, and that's when the policy didn't start. So how you know that when my allergies keep coming back? Because it was the playoffs, it wasn't March. It definitely wasn't March, sir.
Starting point is 00:13:54 That's different than our season. That's spring ball, my boy. It definitely don't work. I'm saying March the season. March the season. March the season. They definitely do a workin' job. I'm sayin' Markz and Steve. Markz and Steve. Markz and Steve. Hey, he make it sound receipt. What? Loaded up the drink for sure.
Starting point is 00:14:12 Oh, man. Man, listen, man. Shout out to Chyne, man. One of our favorite segments here, making it milestones, man. I want to ask y'all a question, man. Obviously, we know y'all had great success, but early on, what was that first moment for y'all?
Starting point is 00:14:23 Y'all was just like, man, I made it, or you having that one breakthrough. I would say like when I first got the email after my second trial, because I had a prior trial in like 2013, and I was about like, man, maybe like 200, maybe 200 pounds.
Starting point is 00:20:55 And they said, hey, you speak well, but maybe put on some size. So man, I took that to heart. I showed up the next trial, like at least 50 pounds bigger, 50, 60 pounds bigger, just eating everything massively for like the next year, year and a half. Ended up having the second trial. And what's crazy about the second trial is actually when I met Dawkins. He took me upstairs and it was like me and five other people. And we were kind of the people from that class to actually got signed. And just so Lord behold, up in the upper room, they were having a promo class and it was actually being ran by Tom Dusty Rose that was still there. And they
Starting point is 00:21:33 took us to class and I remember right before I walked in there, I'll never forget it, Dusty Rose was like, it just be yourself kid. And he sat me down up front in front of the class and it was like Kevin Owens and Dawkins was right up there front row. And the crazy part about this is it's like my mom always told me to wear suits when you go to like business or do anything. And in the morning, I thought promos were in the afternoon. And I showed him my gym clothes and I had my gym clothes and these moccasins on so I'm like, shit, man. I felt like I'm professional, I ain't dressed up to the tee. Just so happened they took me upstairs and I sat down with the moccasins and my compression shirt
Starting point is 00:22:10 and Kevin Owen was like, look, Dawks, he wears house shoes just like you. You guys will fit well together. Because Dawks everywhere, all the time, wear house shoes, Devo shoes, he's so chill and everything. Right now he got the Gucci's because he in Vegas. He had to do it all. But he's all damn good.
Starting point is 00:22:26 He was on the stone. He was in the time moment. He was in the stone head. He was in the financial freedom right there. I see the flirt. Yeah. He was on the stone head. But I always remember that moment because that's where
Starting point is 00:22:44 everything started and it just so happened. The first person I seen accidentally thinking everything was supposed to be in the morning, afternoon, whatever it was, showing up in moccasins, was my brother. So it's cool. Yeah. So I say that's one of the moments. I got a whole bunch more, but I ain't trying to take up all y'all time and everything. Man, good dog.
Starting point is 00:23:03 I got a couple as well. Shoot, even like because obviously I tried out before him. So started and tried out in 2012. And, you know, like college kid, I got no suits, nothing whatsoever. Bro, I'm strictly sweatpants, house shoes, hoodies all day, every day. So I obviously get a tryout. I walk in and everybody's dressed up. So everybody's just looking at me bad as heck.
Starting point is 00:23:31 Like, dang bro, you ain't got no suits? I was like, nah, I ain't know I needed a suit. And then so from that point on, like obviously everybody was just looking at me and then I just started, I'm saying, going in there. They had me to go do stuff in the ring and clown around a little bit. And they were like, oh, this kid is good.
Starting point is 00:23:51 And like I was beating up people with suits and I was like, oh, sweet. This was pretty cool. And then I wrapped baby got snacks from In Living Color. That's how I got hired. That's when I knew I made it. That's how you sealed the deal. Oh yeah, that's how I sealed the deal.
Starting point is 00:24:04 Shout out to Jamie Foxx, shout out to the Liver Color, the Wayans family, you know what I'm saying? Thank you guys. All right, now obviously we're going fast forward just a little bit. Now we got the real big, big bag. What's it like when y'all get that first check? Y'all first birthday, y'all locked in.
Starting point is 00:24:19 What y'all doing with that first direct deposit? Man, so I went and bought a Bible. That's the first thing I did. Okay. I was like, man, you know what? Everything's good for us. This is the first time we've put in so much time and we feel like, not that we made it,
Starting point is 00:24:33 but we're just in a whole different level or time that we were when we first signed. I mean, the first thing I did was buy a Bible and let it be put inside my truck just so I can keep reminding myself each, you know, because I bought myself a Bible and I was bought, I was wanting like, my dream car was a Chevy Silverado. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Some people feel like that's basic, but I was just wanting a black Chevy Silverado, bought a Bible and lady put the Bible inside of my, the middle console and it's still in there to this day. And just to remind myself in these high points in life, like, you know, this is where it all is. And I was always raised in the church, born in the church, and I always humble myself to know like these great things that happen, but still can be taken away any day. So just a blessing to myself, man.
Starting point is 00:25:20 That's the first thing I did really. I haven't really bought anything crazy either. Like I feel like, like I wear, you know, Gucci, Fendi, whatever it is. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't.
Starting point is 00:25:31 I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't.
Starting point is 00:25:38 I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven't. I haven know, I mean, oh, here we go, man.
Starting point is 00:25:45 I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean, I mean,
Starting point is 00:26:03 I mean, I mean, I mean, you gotta enjoy yourself. I mean, you gotta enjoy yourself when you're on the road 300 plus days out the year, you know, when you're home, you wanna enjoy yourself. So you might, you might buy a boat. Or two. I mean, you might buy a house or two. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:26:23 You know. Hey, hey, I ain't mad at that. I mean, yo, first thing I did. Yeah. Paid off Sally Mae. OK, perfect. I did, I did. Paid off Sally Mae.
Starting point is 00:26:39 I called, I was like, hey, yeah, how much I got? Oh, yeah, I'll just take care of all of that real quick. They sounded so deflated, so heated. You know what I'm saying? Because there was a lot of deferments. I said, yeah, you know what? Ha ha ha, solid man.
Starting point is 00:26:55 No more, you don't know me no more, hey. And then after that, I went and bought a couple pairs of house shoes. Yeah, yeah. I went to the house again, man. Because he was wearing a pair for like, at least like bought a couple pairs of house shoes. Yeah, yeah. Come around with that. That's a game, man. Because he was wearing a pair for like, at least like about seven, eight years, man. And like, I'll never forget this too.
Starting point is 00:27:10 Like when we first got signed, Docs had this Toyota Camry, literally like, it probably had like 600,000 miles. And the reason why people say Docs is rich, because literally, Docs will keep stuff until the wheels fall off. Respect. And I remember one time,
Starting point is 00:27:25 this is way before, you know, the wives and everything, we got involved with it now. Like we was just getting in from coming out one night and he was driving that Camry. And like that thing literally was hopping as it was getting me to my apartment. It was skipping. I was like, it was like, I kid you not.
Starting point is 00:27:43 And I look over at Dawks, I'm like, bro, you're going to be straight to get home? He said, with the dashboard, I'll be all right. I swear that was the last night he drove that car. It made it to his house. And then like, I think a couple of days later, a week later, you end up getting that charger after that. Oh yeah, I'll get a charger.
Starting point is 00:28:02 That's a little strange for him. No, it was funny because like how I got that car was, charger out there. Oh, yeah. You get a charge. It was funny because like how I got that car was pretty dope because the person that had that car originally, he was wrestling at NXT. That was when we lived in Tampa at that time was FCW named Sakamoto and he he got let go. So basically gave me the car for $100. Dang. So I bought the Toyota Camry for $100. And like that already had like a lot of miles on it anyway. So then like, what?
Starting point is 00:28:33 That was 2000, yeah, 2013. Yeah. What year was the Toyota Cam? 1990. But how many miles was on the dash when you bought it? 1998. See, I had an 88 when I was on the dance floor? 1998. See, I had an 88 when I was in high school, so that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Yeah. Right? 20 years like. That's trash. Bro, it was 30 years like. Both y'all have multiple giddas. For sure, for sure. Yeah, but listen, like we talk about with y'all,
Starting point is 00:29:01 y'all have this job, because boy, you've made a hundred dollars stretch, didn't you? Yeah, I was making a hundred100 stretch right then, man. Man, you was making a play for financial freedom, because the last thing you want is debt, man. You don't want no credit card debt, man. So please tap in with Chyna, man.
Starting point is 00:29:14 You want to play for that new whip, like you was talking about? You want to get the Bible going crazy. Like you said, financial freedom, get the debt taken away, take care of those two loans, man. The first step is always your best step, man. Tap in with Chyna for sure. Listen, man, a little bit more about them. It's a credit bill, a credit card, no care of those two loans, man. First step is always your best step, man. Tap in with Chime for sure. Listen, man, a little bit more about them.
Starting point is 00:29:26 It's a credit builder, credit card, no annual fees, no interest, no credit check to apply. Use it everywhere, use a Visa card, you know what I'm saying? Just use it like you use everything else. Everyday purchases, take care of that, bid your credit up. Secure credit builder with Visa credit card and Chime. Man, let me go through the bills one more time. The Chime credit card builder Visa credit app

Starting point is 00:30:01 Listen boy. You play fire. Boy, boy. Listen, tap in. Boy, you lit. Fire. Boy, fire. Boy, I ain't gonna lie, boy. That's probably education paying off, boy. No, man. It's your head. They don't pay me for nothing, them.
Starting point is 00:30:13 Oh, boy, child. One more to go. Because I always say, get your child on. Get your child on. Get your child on. Get your child on. Get your child on. get your charm on. Hey, hey. Get your charm on, get your charm on. Yes sir, man, first of all, shout out to y'all, man.
Starting point is 00:30:33 Champions, man, but I wanna go back. How did y'all get into wrestling? Cause I know both of y'all are superior athletes before y'all even got in the ring, man. You talking about your days, but you ain't no slouch either, boss. Man, dog, it's weird. I got into business like, so I played football at Harper College. I was born there strictly for
Starting point is 00:30:54 football because I wanted to go D1. So like I just focus on that. It was a juco. So trying to get my feet wet and like get out there and try to go D1. So then obviously, like a bunch of heavyweights got hurt on the wrestling team or they either got hurt or they quit. So the wrestling coach came and like tried to get me to wrestle. And when I wrestled in high school, I had to cut weight to 215. So I had to like the last two years, I missed Thanksgiving. So like, so, yes, like at that point, I was like, man, I kind of. So like. So yeah, so like at that point I was like, man,
Starting point is 00:31:26 I kind of want to eat. I ain't really trying to, like, I was already above, what, heavyweight is 285, I was 295 at the time. So I, so I was like, nah, I ain't trying to cut weight, man. Like I just want to go home and eat, eat some of my mom's cooking, you know what I'm saying? Enjoy Thanksgiving, enjoy the holidays and I'm good. So he's like, all right, cool.
Starting point is 00:31:48 And so obviously come back, got the bowl game. We go on Christmas break. I come back second semester. Our defensive coordinator at the time drags me to the wrestling room. He's like, hey, I got your heavyweight here. And he's like, hey, you ready to wrestle? And I just looked, I was like, I guess so.
Starting point is 00:32:07 So long story short, I joined the team like the second half of the season was like, what, two months left, one match away from All-American there. And that was when I met Jerry Briscoe and Jerry Briscoe. And it was Coach Kelly and coach Tato. They were the ones that were like the catalysts and making where I am now pretty much like they were the ones that got my foot in the door because they came up and they was like,
Starting point is 00:32:34 hey, yo, yo, Jerry Briscoe's here. W.E. Jerry Briscoe's here. And look at the time, I'm like, man, shut up, bro. Whatever, dog, let me go wrestle real quick. Like and and so basically they was like, no, this is like, yeah, whatever, bro. Whatever, dog. Let me go wrestle real quick. And so basically they was like, no, I'm dead serious. I'm like, yeah, whatever, bro. So I go wrestle, coughed Matt, sweating, tired, trying to drink Spagatorade or something.
Starting point is 00:32:54 And Jerry Briscoe walks up and says, hey, Jerry Briscoe from WWE, like to talk to you about getting the tryout. So we talked for a minute, like talks, like we talked for a minute. And like I said, like two months later, I got tired of doing homework. Locked in. Yeah, I got tired of doing homework, you gave me a tryout and the rest is history. And like,
Starting point is 00:33:18 I always look at thank coach Todd or coach Kelly for that, because like, if they never got my foot in the door, hell, if my defensive coordinator never took me to the coaches, the wrestling room, I'm probably not sitting here right now. Like how I got into business was insanely lucky. Now that I think about it, it's like, yo, this is crazy. Like I had no plans of wrestling in college, none whatsoever. And it's like, I never knew that's where that would take me to this right here. You know what I'm saying? That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Oh, for sure. I watched it as a kid, watched it like my entire life. I started watching it like when I was like seven, eight years old. And then when I graduated high school, I actually ended up going to the military. And so, loved wrestling and everything, played different sports in high school and actually did wrestling as well. But once I graduated, I went to the Marines from like 18 to 22.
Starting point is 00:34:15 And while I was in the military, I was just thinking like, man, I could keep doing the military or I could actually do something that I wanna do. And it's not saying the military wasn't something I wanted to do, but I felt like do. And it's not saying the military wasn't something I wanted to do, but I felt like I had something else to offer to the world. With wrestling, I didn't know how to go about
Starting point is 00:34:32 of getting involved into wrestling. So after I finished the military, I was looking around at the city I was living around the time. I was in California, San Diego, California. I was looking at the different independent promotions that they possibly have to possibly get your name out there for wrestling. Trying to put on size, train at the same time.
Starting point is 00:34:52 And I remember at the time in 2013, WWE had like a WWE recruit on their website tab. I don't know if they still have it, but you can submit your videos and your photos and they can possibly contact you for a trial. So I said, all right, man, let me try this. Submitted my name and Lord, behold, maybe seven months later they contacted me and said,
Starting point is 00:35:13 hey, we want to bring you in for a trial. Lost my mind, lost my shit. I was like, oh damn. So got ready for the trial, did the first trial that I told you all about. And like I said, they said you speak well, but maybe put on some size. So in that whole year, almost year and a half process, when I say I ate and I trained and I literally went to a place where,
Starting point is 00:35:34 it wasn't a bad place. It was just like, I said, if I'm not going to get this opportunity, then I want to make sure that when I do this second trial, if it's possible, they tell me no. At least I know I put everything in to provide them to make sure that whatever I need to do to get hired this time, I've done everything and I can consciously close this dream and go try something else.
Starting point is 00:35:56 Because when I went into the military, the first year I had my oldest son, he's here this weekend, my kids here this weekend, I had my oldest son. So I didn't really have time to try to figure out what things I want to try in life because I got miles to feed. And by the time I was finished with the military, I had all three of my kids. So everything at that time was not just taking care of them, but trying to figure out what I want to do too. But when you got babies, time is very limited, scarce, because I never wanted to stop my
Starting point is 00:36:30 cashflow taking care of my babies. So like I said, once military got finished and I did that first initial trial and they told me, you speak well, put on some size the whole next year, went all in, gained the weight, did the second trial I think I came in like extra like 50 52 pounds y'all like swear just just Yeah, like you know I have some some pizzas some burgers some cakes like it was it was It was a meat pause, you know You know, so it was... We appreciate that. Speaking about that, have you ever had turkey ham before? Y'all don't know what it is?
Starting point is 00:37:10 Don't worry about him. You don't want to talk about it? It's not turkey ham, bruh. It's sliced turkey, bruh. What's your boy? He trying to disrespect my mama right now. No, shout out to my Dukes. But he, y'all talking about Thanksgiving and stuff,
Starting point is 00:37:26 it kind of sparked in my mind. She was talking about the other day. He told me eating ham is like smoking cigarettes now, don't nobody eat ham no more. He's out of pocket. I mean. But he said even his mom make a turkey that tastes like him. No.
Starting point is 00:37:40 So I'm trying to fool him a little bit. And he said they put pineapples on it. Oh. Oh. Yeah. So you know what I'm saying, son? You know what I'm saying? It's up for ever, bro. It's up.
Starting point is 00:37:54 You know what I'm saying? I'm glad you was on the same guy that I'm about to exude. I know. I wouldn't say I don't think I ever seen a guy with a turtleneck. You know what I'm gonna'all about them solo cuts. Hell! My mom's supporting, does it taste good?
Starting point is 00:38:08 Nah, it's fire. But I ain't about to fool with him. Because I told my mom about this, and she was like, when we get back on Monday, she got something for you. So I don't worry about that. I don't know, Mr. Schmeck. I just wanted to look at the reaction that they, you know what I mean? Mr. Schmeck, you got what you're looking for.
Starting point is 00:38:22 It's up now. So Turkey, hell, that's clearly some A.I. shit. I don't leave that apart in your plan. I'm going to put two different names. I'm actually a maid. Really? I'm going to make it a segment. This is like a hybrid. Half and half.
Starting point is 00:38:31 That's bad. It's like the best you can get, the best of both worlds. Half and half. Half and half. Half and half. Half and half. Half and half. Half and half.
Starting point is 00:38:39 Half and half. Half and half. Half and half. Half and half. Half and half. Half and half. Half and half. Half and like a hybrid, man. Half and half. Half and half. This is like the best you can make the best of both worlds.
Starting point is 00:38:50 You can get the best of both worlds. You know what? I can't wait for you to come out. I'm gonna get this beat that's over here. And they're going in. And you're laughing! I love it. All right, I like this. I like this.
Starting point is 00:39:07 All right. This thing is over here. Oh, that's how my man's laughing too! I love it. I am not. You know what I'm talking about? I'm talking about turkey hair. Turkey hair?
Starting point is 00:39:15 Hey, bro. I was like, what do you mean? As soon as he said pineapples, I was like... I'm not talking about turkey hair. I'm talking about turkey hair. I'm talking about turkey hair. I'm talking about turkey hair. I'm talking about turkey hair.
Starting point is 00:39:23 I'm talking about turkey hair. I'm talking about turkey hair. I'm talking about turkey hair. I'm talking about turkey hair. I'm talking about turkey hair. I'm talking. You know the guy who walks in the living room talking about turkey hair. Turkey hair? Hey, bro. I was like, wait a minute. As soon as he said pineapples, I was like, that don't care. Yeah, that was a case. I like that.
Starting point is 00:39:33 You might have walked around thinking, you see that dish? Yeah, he said it looked just like him. I said, you better be careful, boy. You know what I mean? I said, what do you mean careful? He said, be careful. You crazy? All careful, boy. You better be careful. You better be careful. You better be careful.
Starting point is 00:39:47 Anyway. Nah, so, y'all come out with the solo cups we used to. Like, what was that for? Like, what made y'all do that? Cause us hanging out all the time, all we use a solo cup. We got a show when we go back home, we drink out of solo cups.
Starting point is 00:40:04 And when y'all first came out and I seen y'all I was like, that's a vibe. Like I see what they're doing. They making me feel like I'm back in college with it. They drinking, throwing them in the air. They coming out on the entrance. Sending the bobs. Who made that play? Who set that up for y'all? What made y'all go with that? Starting point is 00:43:27 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. So it was actually, I was at the house one time and I was talking to my wife, Bianca Belair. She actually wrestles with the WWE as well. She got a match this weekend, WrestleMania 2. Shout out to Bay, good luck. But I was in the house one time, like man, Bay, like me and Dark Sleep, like something that like relates to the crowd. That's like something that they to the crowd,
Starting point is 00:44:05 that's something that they can carry in, something that makes them feel like one of us. Obviously we share culture similarities, but what's an item or something that they can use, and it's like a gesture, and what's something that's a symbol of a good time? I say, man, I think I might go out there with a red solo cup.
Starting point is 00:44:24 And it's loud, it's a red solar cup. And everybody knows what a red solar cup is. To us, it means a good time. And like Street Profits, like what we've always been about is just having a good time. We're gonna still beat your ass, but we gonna have a good time. So that's kind of like what the vibes came from.
Starting point is 00:44:44 Like you said, like when people have solar cups, they know it's like, it's a vibe. It's about to be a good time. That's kind of what the vibes came from. Like you said, when people have solo cups, they know it's a vibe, it's about to be a good time. Yeah, thanks. I wanted to ask about the music, because we talked about that. Like that's the fire part, is everybody hear that music? They go crazy before they see y'all. What's that plan in life?
Starting point is 00:44:59 You know, say, all right, this what we pulling up to. Y'all got the solo cups in hand, but it's gonna set the tone when we come out. Banch, dog. I give this shout up to with y'all. Got the solo cups in hand, but it's gonna set the tone when we come out. Banch, dog. I give the shout out to Hunter on that one. That was Hunter. Yeah, he was like, hey, y'all like the music? I was like, eh, seems straight.
Starting point is 00:45:15 You know what I'm saying? And like at that point, he was like, but obviously we were like, all right, we're gonna be fine, you know what I'm saying? But we ain't expected to be like, as soon as that music hit, crowd started just going nuts. I'm like, oh snap, alright bet. I was like, as soon as you hear that crowd war,
Starting point is 00:45:30 you know what I'm saying? You get that crazy energy, you know what I'm saying? It's like, oh alright, well we gotta bring it down. Now it's up, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, we talk about it all the time, like you know, hoop, you know what I'm saying? You out there with your teammates and stuff, when y'all come down there, it's y'all,
Starting point is 00:45:44 and that whole arena is just staring at y'all. Music playing, solo cups, so you out there with your teammates and stuff. When y'all come down there, it's y'all in that whole arena just staring at y'all. Yeah. Music playing, solo cups. What's that vibe like? I know that's got to be nerve wrecking at the same time. You like geeked up because you about to go get to it. But all eyes on y'all, man. That's crazy. Look, I'll say this. It hasn't really happened lately because like, luckily, we've been doing this,
Starting point is 00:46:01 what, 12 years now. So like, I remember when we first got the call up to Raw and we went out there, like I never even told him this. I was like, bro, cause go out there in the ramp, you just see an arena. So I was like, oh snap. I got lightheaded there, almost passed out. And then our first mania, or not the first mania
Starting point is 00:46:23 where we were at the performance center, our first mania, or not the first mania where we were at the performance center, our first mania in like in front of a stadium. I almost forget, I almost passed out there too. That's like, cause you go out there, it's like a different view, you know what I'm saying? You went from watching whoever was in the ring, you went from watching who was ever in the ring to like all eyes are on you.
Starting point is 00:46:43 So like you come out and you just see, and it's just like, oh snap, like, whoo, all right, cool. Like, you know what I'm saying? This like, it gets you pumped at the same time, but it's also like a little nerve wracking because you obviously want to go out there and put your best foot forward.
Starting point is 00:46:59 You know what I'm saying? You want to put on a show, give something everybody to talk about, and you don't want to mess up when you go out there and like every time you step in front of the crowd, man, it's just unreal. Cause like, once they're looking at you, all eyes on you.
Starting point is 00:47:11 So you got to make that impression on them. Yeah. Cause we were talking about the Royal Rumble joint. I was like, that stage was so long. I said, man, my nerves would have fucked me up. I did something. I was like, man, that's a different type of locked in. Man. You see what they did at the Rumble? Is this okay, man?
Starting point is 00:47:27 They put a red one in. Yeah, they scared the shit out of me. Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? I was like, I can't talk, I can't talk. I can't talk, I can't talk. I'm like, I can't talk. I got this so big, so.
Starting point is 00:47:41 Okay, so at that point, we were out for a minute. We were out for a month, because towards the end of the year, like the holiday tour, I had tore my meniscus, so I had to get surgery, so I was out for a minute. And he was out, like we were both out for a minute. And so I was kind of close to coming back at that point in time.
Starting point is 00:48:01 And so they were like, hey, you know what I'm saying? Y'all going to interrupt the tag match between Motor City and DIY. So obviously, but the only problem was I still couldn't like run yet. So like they were like nervous about that. So I was just chill. They had me chill. I like a hoodie. I was hiding. I was like one of the cameras just chilling with the crutch right beside me the whole time.
Starting point is 00:48:26 So like the ramp, because it's like a lift. So yeah, it's literally like a lift. So I was sitting on like one of the guard rails just chilling there the whole time. I had a mask on. I was just laughing the whole time because I'm looking. I'm like, dang. Oh, nobody don't trip or fall on this entrance, bro. Because like that was a long entrance.
Starting point is 00:48:43 But at the same time, I'm like, man, I'm about to whoop these mugs ass, bro. I was like, watch this, dog, y'all think y'all gonna win the tag titles, dog? Nah, no, don't watch. That was crazy. The funny part about it is, we was sitting probably like right to the right for you to do the right round of barricades,
Starting point is 00:48:57 so we see you, we just like a crutch, oh shit. It's like, is this hand push? I was so, I felt like y'all was like, people running out during the basketball game. Was they supposed to do that? I was like security, what the fuck? That was good. That was dope.
Starting point is 00:49:20 That was dope. I got to ask you, you know, you do the splash from way up top and I mean, you jump. You go up there, like, you know, one of my favorite wrestlers was Eddie Guerrero. I asked him to do the frog splash and I'm like, when you go up top, you go up there. And I'm like, that shit gotta hurt. You know what?
Starting point is 00:49:39 Not only does it hurt, but it's scary at the same time. I'm actually afraid of heights. So that's why I do the move to like, try to break my fear of it. But like, it's like, I use it like a, like how Batman is afraid of bats. Like he afraid of bats. So like, I just do the frog splash.
Starting point is 00:49:56 I'm trying to be like symbolic right now. You know what I mean? But I use a frog splash just because like, I love Eddie, love Rob Van Dam, and I feel like I gotta pay homage to these guys, man. They've been doing this for so long, and those are the two guys that, like him, those two, D-Lo Brown, D-Lo, the way they done the frog splash and innovated it, I feel like if I'm doing it now, I gotta take it to another echelon, way up there.
Starting point is 00:50:27 And I even changed the name of it to From the Heavens, because I wanted it to look like I'm literally coming from the heavens. It's crazy. I'm like, he really jumping. Right. I was like, ain't no way, bro. I gotta hurt, bro.
Starting point is 00:50:39 I'm like, ain't no way. Oh man, there was one time I was like, you know what? I'm gonna test how far he can really jump. Oh my God. So I just got a hot dude on the other side of the ring and just walked off. And he just looked at me, he's like, for real? I was like, oh, oh yeah, you got this bro. Usually when he sets the guy down,
Starting point is 00:50:58 he's in the middle of the ring. So like he sets the guy down all the way nearly to the other side of the ring. Like it's almost at the other corner. So I can't yell at him, they're your dogs. Bring them closer. I just look at him like. Wow.
Starting point is 00:51:15 That's crazy. I mean, I made it, but I ain't trying to brag. I made it. But I ain't trying to brag, but I made it though. I made it. I respect you. High fly right here. I definitely made it though.
Starting point is 00:51:23 High fly right here. It's not bad. I fly right here. I fly right here. AirDogs. No sir. AirDogs. Ground-based entertainment. He's the most athletic big man of all time, man.
Starting point is 00:51:33 I seen this man take a dive and leave land on his feet. They got clips of it. They go look it up, man. Oh. They got clips of it. Don't worry about that. Ground-based entertainment. Nah, man.
Starting point is 00:51:41 Don't sell yourself short, brother. GBE, Ground-based entertainment. Charlie Worley. Hey, you know what you say, you say you have some, you hoop a little bit, what's going on? I mean, I can hoop a little bit. Okay, so who the best hooper in WWE? What'd you say, you?
Starting point is 00:51:59 I smoke everybody. Oh, okay. That's a lot of people, bro. Yeah. I smoke everybody. What's up, bro? What you got to say? Sweet Eves. Oh, it's Christmas? Sweet, sweet, yo Bees.
Starting point is 00:52:13 You smoke everybody? That shit not that, oh, you didn't tell me about me because we tag partners, I get it. Ah, I understand. Oh yeah, yeah, you right, you right. Tag partners can get work tips. You know what I'm saying, you my boy. But you know, if we play one on one.

Starting point is 00:52:39 Yeah, you six. That's fair. Hey, you know what, man, that's cute. It is cute, but accurate. That's cute, bro. You know but it's accurate. It's cute, but it's cute and accurate. Nah, not even close. Not even close. He said you're gonna cover the spread, but you're gonna take the L, man.
Starting point is 00:52:51 Nah, not at all. Not at all. He quiet though, he quiet though now. It's gonna be 10-4. He get quiet when the truth come out. Well, you know, that's 10-6, bro. Come on, bro. I gave you six.
