I'd be remiss if we get out of this interview without bringing up the old ball coach. We haven't talked about Bill one time yet.

Yeah. I see so many. thing, and this started happening while you guys were still in the league. Is it Bill? Is it Tom? Like, who is responsible for the greatest era of success in the history of the NFL? Yeah. How do you react to those kind of, I guess, clickbaity arguments as well as, like, what do you think of Bill and what he meant for your success? First of all, I think he's the greatest coach that, you know, ever, a greatest head coach in terms of preparing a team to win. There was nobody better. I was my privilege to play for him as his quarterback.

There's no coach I'd rather choose. And it's just a dumb analogy. It's like, what's more important, the left tackle or the center? Like, I don't know. Well, left tackle. We'll be honest about that. I'll love to agree. I disagree.

There's nobody more important to winning Monday through Saturday than the head coach. Especially in football. Especially in football. And there's nobody more important on Sunday than the quarterback. Now, everybody's important. The person who washes the clothes. is important. The quarterback just has an outsized kind of

ability to help the team win because he touches the ball so much. But I need everybody to do their job. But if you have bad quarterback play, it doesn't matter what else you do, you're not going to win. And if you have bad coaching, it doesn't matter how well the players are doing. You're going to lose. So I just think that question is like

they're all important. There's no way I could have been the player I was without him. And I think we pushed each other to get the best out of each other. And I think he's just, he's incredible. Anyone who played underneath him would say the same thing. Hall of Famers should have been first ballot, man. Crazy.

Besides all that, man. One of the most respected ever to do it, man. That's facts, Joe. And that right there, bro, is why everybody loves and respects Tom Brady. You can disagree with him. You can say he doesn't say some crazy stuff, but you still go respect him in. Do he gives as much as respect, probably more than he gets. He gives people, like, it's so much respect.

It don't matter if you were a practice squad dude. If you were a dude on the team for 10, 15 years, man. And him saying what he said is, bro, it's facts. Bill Belichick is the greatest coached ever coached the game. You're looking at it. You see it. You see his championships. You see his coaching tree.

You see everything that dictates that he should have went first, Hall of Fame. The fact that he didn't go first battle at Hall of Fame, man, the NFL Hall of Fame has lost all in absolute credibility. We talked about it. And this is what I say, Debo. I agree with him 1,000 percent because we see these quarterbacks. If Tom Brady wasn't drafted to the right situation where you have a coach that's able to hold everybody accountable, his stars, all of his players, him and Tom Brady may have been.

in bumping heads because he's holding that man accountable. And that's what you need from a great coach to be able to push you to be able to get the best out of you, to not let things slip to not let that stuff just get so, just any, like Blasey, flowy. No, it's none of that flowiness with Bill Belichick. You're going to be held to a standard every day. And that's what makes the coach so great because great players, if you want to be great and you know how much it takes, you will take the coaching because you know it's to make you

better. It's nothing to harm you. It's only to help you. So if you want to be great, come take this. coaching. Come, let's watch this film together. I'm willing to put in the hours because when you're a great coach, you can't deny. He's doing everything he can, sometimes maybe a little bit too much to get the edge, but the edge is going to get, you're going to know your coach is going to put you in the best position to win. So that's one with Tom and he could have went to a different team, got

to drafts to a different situation. And like Aaron Roger, that's when you put, if you put this quarterback in this situation, how many wins does he get? What is it the coach or quarterback? Right. It all works together because you can't say if Aaron Rogers was drafted to the Patriots because he wasn't. And Bill Belichick wasn't coaching Aaron Rogers. And that situation didn't happen. It happened to be Tom Brady that got drafted there. Happened to be Bill Belichick coaching him with all of these players that he coached up all these years to have this greatness and be able to do what they were doing because that's a great coach that's leading amazing talent on the defensive side, offensive side, special teams bringing you in with execution. doesn't matter with it.

Just sometimes being able to get rid of good players that you need knowing, like, it might be a year. He was doing it a year early before a year too late. Bill Belichick just was able to cut the emotional side out of it and be like, what does the tape look like? What is going to be the best process for this team? And that's why when him and Tom Brady could start getting a little, he's like, I need to be playing for the future past Tom Brady.

Like that's a situation where you're a coach planning for your team all around, no matter what's going on, how is it looking? We were knowing like, okay, boom, boom, boom, just that's what great coaches do. So I respect Tom Brady talking about him in such a high level and the same thing with Bill Belichick because they know what it takes. One couldn't do it without the other. It takes a great quarterback. Tom Brady was great. He wanted to be great.

He studied. He loved the game. And the coach at the same time is bringing in everybody, other coaches, schemes, coaching other players and having his team and his system ready for each other. Both of them, it was a perfect match made in heaven. So we can't take away one from another. He's like, I needed him. Or it wouldn't not look like that. And I needed him or it would not have looked like that.

We needed our players. We needed Randy Moss. We needed, you know what I'm saying, Gronkowski. We needed this team. So I think they both, they're speaking very highly on each other. And you can't have one without the other. Yeah. I mean, you actually said everything that needed to be said there, man.

Like, would it look different? if it was, you know, somebody else, I don't know, who knows. But I know, like with Tom Brady having the skill that he has and all that, could he have went somewhere else and got seven or eight without Bill? I don't think so. I don't think Bill could win anywhere else with any other quarterback and got seven or six or seven, whatever it was without time. So, you know, one can't go without the other,

even though y'all want to try and separate it and point to who's the best. They're not ego-driven. Nobody wants to have more credit than the other person. When you start getting ego-driven people who want more credit and want to be seen, things start getting destroyed and tore apart, like teams, players, whole organizations. You know what I'm saying? You know, so that, yeah, that's one of the biggest, football is the biggest team sport. You need everybody.

Like, when he's talking about, that's why Tom speaks highly on, you know, is the tackle better, more than important to the center? He's like, if the center wasn't snapping me that ball, every time. And maybe making the center might be the ones being able to make the checks, being at the center of the line. You know, they always say the tackle because you're guarding the quarterback's blind side. So, but Tom Brady's like, okay, that's cool for sure. I need that. Right. The center isn't making those checks and he's in control of everything. Right.

Right. Right. I would say my center was more important than my tackle. You know what I'm saying? And that's Uncle, that's Tom Brady. And that's not for other people like, no, no, no, he's protecting his blind side. I'm like, my center can't stop that nose from running him over. immediately when he snapped that ball, we're in trouble. Then we're in trouble. The players don't get started. Don't even get started. The center quarterback exchange.

He got to get me. He's touching the ball every play too. Right. So, like, just for him to say that, like, it's just, quarterbacks understand. Everybody's hard. Tom didn't even hold onto the ball long enough to get his blind side. He was getting out of there.

Out of there. I had a free shot on that dude a couple times, and I'm like, I just whipped this dude in, like, 0.5 seconds, and he still got the rock off. That's a lot. It was literally times where all they had to do was just touch you, bro. And that was enough time that you'd be getting there as he'd letting it go. I'm like, dude, I'm like, what the hell?

It's the brother next. He already know. He already know where he's going to go. Like, yeah, it was, it was, dude, it was, it was, it was ridiculous at times. And now, you know, of course, they, you know, they did, they did a little, uh, fan, uh, you know, little fan dangling over there, you know, in that one year, you know what I'm saying? Like the year is undefeated, we popped them and Philly back to back,

and then they came to a championship game, bro. When I say they caught us on, they only missed one blitz. What in the world, Joe, how many times in your career have you ever seen where a offense get y'all on every blitz, y'all, do but one. Now, don't forget, we, we blitz, blitz, now. We, we're blitzberg back then, boy. You're talking about 25 blitz, something like that. How many times, Joe? I can't tell you. You know, I can't. How many times you don't had to where your blitz did not get there? They threw right into traffic looking at everything is telling you that, hey, man,

they're coming from here, they're coming from here, they're coming from here. And they're like, nope, no it ain't, no it ain't. They're throwing it right where you wouldn't want to throw it if You're looking at the, you know what I'm saying? If you're looking at this false setup, we got coming to you. Yeah. But dude, they was doing that, uh, they was doing that hurry up. It ain't even hurry up. It was just, you know, call at the line.

So we're throwing their signals. Man, they're catching all that. I don't care. Nobody said, they're catching all that. They're just catching all that. They move. Bro, they, bro, we hit them by like 21. The, the, the, the, man, they came back and popped us by like 21.

In, in, uh, in a, in a, in a, uh, playoff game. championship game. Well, y'all running the same plays. Bro, we was running the same defense. We was doing different blissies. You know our coached the bowl, though. Yeah, yeah. He go line it up, do like this, whatever, whatever.

But what they did is they caught a signals. So that's when you signaled everything in. So it was, you know, you got to do it with the hat and he signaled, whatever. We didn't have a throw-off call. We didn't know what cats were still in signals. Oh, man. No, so yeah. You got the throw-off call now, too.

Yes, yes, yes. You got the dummy call. He had no dummy call. We didn't know. what they's doing. Oh, man. Okay. Yes.

You know what I'm saying? Yeah, you got to learn. You got to learn the finagle, Debo. You had to throw the finagle route. Well, we started after that whole thing went down. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. We started doing that.

But then they brought in the headphones for it for the defense. You got the little green dot. Yeah. How long did the green dot on until what? 15 seconds? I want to say 15 on both. For the quarterback and for the Okay. Well, see, that's,

they stuff was on the whole time. So they had to line 40 seconds. They call in defense. They lining up. So we're trying to get whatever. Hell, they got a whole, what, 25 seconds there to communicate. Dibo, they had the extra time?

No, they got 25. So you do it 40 seconds. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. So, but they already lining up. So as they line it up, we're looking, and they call him. So they got that whole 25 seconds to figure out what's going on for this even cut out.

So that's a whole, I could be like, oh, yeah, it's blah, blah, blah. It's coming from over here. Don't pay attention that they're showing hard here. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. That's all I'm saying, bro. Like, that's like playing Tecmo Bowl and I get your play. Yes.

It's over with it. Looking at my controller. Right. I got A, B, or X. And that's, that's, you know, that's basically what it came down to, bro. Like, they was, they was hitting. I'm like, good. long.

You know why he felt like football should be played on the grass show? He said, that's for safety purposes, number one.

And he said, I wanted to look like a game was played even if it's an indoor facility. You see grass stains and everything else. I wasn't going to a stadium without it being grass once I knew the capabilities was there. Obviously, it added a lot of costs, but it's worth it. the man is putting his money where his mouth is. They've got an indoor facility over there. It's hotter than witches, whatever. Yep.

Brough, they roll it in and out. Every stadium, if y'all want to have these indoor stadiums, every stadium required to have a rolling in-and-out indoor turf. You got to roll it out, roll it in. You know what's so crazy? When I did NFL Europe, dude, it was, they had, I can't think of the name of the place. I was in Ducey, though, of Germany.

The name of the soccer team, I couldn't remember it. But they had rolling in and out turf back then. That was like 2002, bro. They rolled the whole turf out. Like, if they did an event, they rolled the whole turf out. And when I say the whole turf, man, that turf was like, it had to be like maybe eight or ten feet, like, yeah, tall, roll it in and out.

They bring it out for water, grass. I mean, water, lots. All that. Yeah. No, that was some good grass out there. I ain't going to lie, brother. I ain't going to lie to you, brother. Like, this is the owner that actually really is like, yo, I don't care about the cost.

Safety. That's number one, Joe. Joe. Yes. What do you, what are you thinking? Football should be played on real grass, 1,000 percent. It just is the way. It feels so much better.

FIFA came in and they were saying that basically they know grass is the way. If you're not worried about no money, and you go switch it back. You go switch it back to turf because they know that's just cost efficient. If you want to have something that's just people can, you can put stuff on, you can roll events on there and have different things happen. And then it's going to stay more the same.

But as far as wearing tear, if you want to have your best ability on it, plant on grass is just the way to go for your joints, obviously. And then when it's that good grass, the grip. And it gives a little bit more. So you're not. It won't get, it won't get, your ankle won't get caught in it. It's just, it's naturally going to give a little bit just because that's the way grass works.

So just him saying it is the most, is obvious. But knowing at the end of the day, when the owners, if you were to say, I do have a product out there. I am playing, what is the best thing? We're talking about player safety. Grass is obviously better for players. So it just, if you want to say that, I know it's going to cost a little bit more, but you are investing into your product. You're investing into the players.

So obviously, like you said, unless they make it mandatory, then you could see some owners not doing it because financially it's not, it's cost more. It's not efficient for them. They have to move, just make another step. But if you're just saying, boom, I'm managing my asset, my football team, I got my players out there. I want them to have the best playing surface.

We use natural grass. We can do that. And then you'll see the owners that do step up and do that. It's just because they are, they know. cost more. Some people, some owners and some people that own things, they'll do stuff for their employees, knowing it's not as cost efficient for them, but it's just the right thing to do. They're still making money. It's not going to take from everything. They're not going to go into the red because they're buying a new field. No, it's just going to, this year might not be

as much profit because we ended up putting this into the field. Cool. So next year's numbers will probably be, you know what I'm saying? It's just the, when you see an owner say it like this, like boom, I know. Hey, listen, listen, when you see a owner, He is the only owner that has said it like this. What are you talking about? But the other Jackson. I'm surprised they ain't went and tried to put a leash on his mouth or something. No, the other owners that have switched it to grass, the ones that have grass, they say this.

They say it. So it's the ones that aren't saying nothing that do have turf that are still chilling. They know why they're not doing it. Put it out there that they said it's for safety purposes, number one. How many owners have said, I'm changing this for the safety purpose, period? put it out there to the public can you name one was it the

was it the Jacksonville Jaguars that just switched off of there whoever somebody if the Buffalo Bill Jacksonville was always grass the Buffalo bills grass but if you if you're grass

I mean it doesn't have to be I don't think so I think Buffalo they switched to grass the new stadium is turf if they switch from grass to turf no they were

turf and that's switching to grass yeah That's what he said, because Buffalo bills. Oh, they might still be turf. I don't know. Let me. Anybody tell me what Buffalo's new stadium will go be.

Chat. If a team, if a team is already grass, though, and it is grass, they don't have to state. I mean, they would obviously, if they would have been turf, it's because they could hold other events there. If a team already has grass, that's because they're obviously probably looking out for the best of the team. Maybe the stadium is so far away that they don't have the opportunity to hold more events. and it could be a situation where you know what the grass is a lot cheaper now why because i'm in good weather it's easier to take care of it's going to be one team playing on this it ain't going to be 20 30 30 40 games played on this thing you know what i'm saying like you go and like that's what it is

but i guess they switch from turf to grass the bills okay those did yes all right so now they got an underground heating system grow lights moorce to control all that like they just put some money money into this thing. Why? Cold in Buffalo. You can't, you can't, you can't let the, you can't let the field go and just do a, what was it? What was the, what was the frozen tundra of land? Then it can't freeze over. Then you can't.

You're skating on ice. Then your cleats can't go into the ground at all. Cleaves can't go into the ground at all. But you know what? That's part of, that's part of, you know, that's part of the game, though. You got, you got to go on here, put them seven, you got put them seven studs on. Get it going when it's snowing out there real thick. What Cleveland go do, Joe?

They go put in turf or they go put in grass? Grass. Are you sure? Oh, but I don't know for sure by the end, but I definitely would expect us to put in grass. Expect it to feature artificial turf, Joe. No. With a retractable roof, watch.

Artificial, no, no. That's what it says, Joe. Artificial turf. Well, synthetic surface to accommodate a year-round event. See? Yes. Concerts, conventions, and motorsports, Joe. That is obviously what I was saying right there is showing you.

You know, cleaning them right there. That part of it, we just let them know. That is for the, that stadium is also used for the bag. That stadium is also used for the bag. We will have concerts in there. It will be a lot of events going on. Got to be more careful. But it's going to be turf and we're going to be able to hold it Super Bowl.

But that's not what, that's not one. You could have got grass and still held the Super Bowl. I know. I know. I know. this is not player-efficient turf. Hey. Player-efficient turf.

You mean just grass? We needed grass. Play-friendly surface. Player-friendly surface. God. All right. Joe. That's how y'all do it, man.

Y'all go spend a billion and then put turf in that thing. We're going to hold a lot of events. It's the, it's the, I can't, I mean a lot of events. Who coming up to all these events in the middle of winter when it's And it's, they get real snow up there, Joe. I'm only 40 minutes away from that and I get some of it. Higgins, and then they say they're going to get some, they got some defensive pieces. They know if the defense is just average, they're going to be able to score 40. That's how they look at the Cincinnati Bengals.

They can score 40. They can score 40. Their defense is just comparable. So when they have the young Joe Burrow with Jamar Chase and T. Higgins, they look at that as an offense that's unbelievable. So if you just have a competent defense, they're always trying to put the Cincinnati Bengals to a high level. He didn't play a lot of last year.

They're saying the injuries, but they're always saying if Joe Burrow is on that team, it's Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase, that offense, 40. Defense, give me something. They're up there. That's how everybody, analysts, the sports world, they look at them with, y'all got Joe Burrow, Jamar Chase T. Higgins.

You all have 40 on offense every time if they're out there. Get you a defense that does anything, y'all she could be able to get to the Super Bowl. But for us, they're like, oh, do y'all got Aaron Rod? Y'all don't, who's y'all's quarterback? The defense has been not doing the way that they've been doing. Like, like, y'all are just going to be average, average, average, what is the next thing? So, you know, we can say, I believe that we're still going to be nice, but everybody else

outside nationals, like, distillers, when is the last time they won the playoff game? The Bengals were already to the Super Bowl with Joe Burrow, with Jamar Chase. They've seen them do it before. So they're always like, oh, health. healthy Joe Burrow, they're going to be able to get there. They're going to be able to do it. Just defense do something. Defense do something.

I'm like, no, they're not just better. Like, we can play against them, lock that defense, lock that offense up. You know what I'm saying? They can't just go down and score on us at bay. So we play our game. They're not just beating us. And everybody's looking like, no, Joe Burrow out there, they're going to be able to score how many times they want to score. So outside looking in, it's easy to say, you've seen Joe Burrow, be Joe Burrow and do it with Chase and Higgins. So they're always just, oh, no, with the hell they're just putting 40 on the board. And now defense do something.

So that's why everybody nationally thinks the Bengals are going to be so good. And I'm just like, you're going to have to play the games. They're going to have to score 40 still. You know what I'm saying? Joe Burr's going to stand up right. These dudes are nice. You got ballers. So I'm not mad at you when you say it because it does make sense.

I just want to see us play the games the right way, not hurt ourselves offense, run the ball, Aaron Rogers, hit the dudes when we need them, when a running game's hitting, one safety come down, decay, time to work on the outside when we get doing one-on-ones.

Like just basic football stuff, so it's not nothing going to be crazy, but it's just going to be you're watching a good-ass football team perform and not having people running around looking like an undisciplined team.
