Tom Brady had missed tension and had developed with Coach Belichick during his tenure during the end of his quarterback time with the Patriots.
Starting point is 00:05:14 In the latest edition of his weekly newsletter, Brady briefly spent some time talking about the split from the Patriots. First Brady said he knew he likely wouldn't end up finishing his split from the Patriots. First, Brady said he knew it was likely wouldn't end up finishing his career with the Patriots. His first thoughts about leaving the team happened two or three years before it actually happened. It was a creeping decision that livingly passive in back of my mind two or three years, uh, until March of 2020, when the world went on a few
Starting point is 00:05:41 days made me realize that decision was coming sooner rather than later. After 20 years together, a natural tension had developed between where Coach Belichick and I were headed in our careers and where the Patriots were moving as a franchise. And it was kind of tension that could only be resolved by some kind of split or one of us reassessing our priorities. Right. I mean, we could see that from a mile away. Everybody saw it.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Everybody saw it. When that Seth Wickersham article came out. Yeah. And they talking about the Jimmy G. Yeah. As a matter of time. Wait, listen, you understand that as a quarterback, why you think Aaron Rodgers felt the way he did
Starting point is 00:06:23 when they got Jordan Love? Why you think Brett Favre felt the way he did when they got Jordan Love? Why do you think Brett Favre felt the way they did when they got Aaron Rodgers? Yeah, so the writing was already on the wall. He understood that, Brady understood that. That's why he had to go upstairs and go to the higher up and ask, listen, I don't want this over my back. I don't want this over my shoulder. I'm not comparing the situation, but as a competitor, you Brady, you shouldn't be worried about nothing that's coming in there at all because of the decisions that Bill Belichick
Starting point is 00:06:57 wanted to make as far as moving on. He was supposed to be your predecessor. Am I using predecessor in the right context? No. Damn. Predecessor context? No. Damn. Predecessor mean he proceeded. Fuck. Oh, my bad.
Starting point is 00:07:10 He came after. What word am I supposed to use? My what? You mean like Jimmy G? Yeah. Era parent. Era parent. Hey, my bad, my bad.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Hey, my bad, Jack. I'm using big words. I don't even know what they mean. It sounded good though. It did. It did. I'm using words I don't even know what they mean. It sounded good though. But anyway, you know the competitive in him understanding that you on the tail and you on the back end obviously is listen, I want to be able to play freely. I want my mind free. I want to, I don't want to be out here being hesitant, being gun shy, knowing that if I mess up
Starting point is 00:07:45 being hesitant, being gun shy, knowing that if I mess up, y'all gonna start the whole, you know, it is only a matter of time before they start the rumors and the chants, we want Jimmy G and all that stuff, so I understand that. I want him gone, I don't even want him here. And I know that was a Robert Kraft decision. I know it was. What happened was, is that if you study the 49ers,
Starting point is 00:08:08 for the most part, after 10 years, Coach Walsh, you look at Ronnie, you look at Roger Craig, you look at a lot of the guys, only they start, and so you start, you move off a guy, the thought process was, Ocho, you move off a guy one year early as opposed to one Year late. Mm-hmm coach Belichick had studied the history and says, you know what guys start to taper off
Starting point is 00:08:32 And if we don't have that bridge, we're gonna be like the Pittsburgh Steelers until they got Rothenberger from Ted Bradshaw We're gonna be like the Miami Dolphins. We're gonna be a lot like a lot of these other teams the book Excuse me, the Buffalo Bills Jim Kelly until they got Josh Allen. So if we don't start a succession plan now, successor, heir apparent, whatever you want to use the term, what Jimmy G was supposed to do. Coach Belichick says, what I've learned is teams wait too long to find the successor or the heir apparent to said great quarterback. I don't want to make that mistake. I want to have a guy in place, get him a couple
Starting point is 00:09:10 years under his belt, push him out the door, the guy steps in. Right. That's what he wanted. But Tom was saying, hold on, man I'm going to the sumo damn near every other year, every second or third year. I'm still an MVP candidate. I'm still going to Pro Bowls. And you talk about I'm slipping? What are you watching? And when they redid Tom's contract and they didn't add years, they just took that bonus and gave it to him.
Starting point is 00:09:42 I said, it's done. Go back and look at it. I said, it's done. I back and go back and look at it. I said, it's done. I said, you're not coming back. I remember. I remember. He ain't coming back. He ain't not coming back. But the grip, because here's the thing, Ocho. Uh huh.
Starting point is 00:09:55 When you have success, see, as long as you don't mind who gets the credit, you don't realize how successful you can be. There we go. It started to be a push and pull because everybody, because we talked about it all the time, who deserves more credit, Belichick or Brady? Belichick or Brady?
Starting point is 00:10:12 There is no way to definitively tell unless they left. One left, if one leaves and wins without the other, well, it's another person, dude, there it is. Right. Tom leaves, wins the championship in his first year, gone. Yes sir. Okay, now, Coach Belichick, now you get a chance to answer.
Starting point is 00:10:31 I ain't saying you gotta win one the next year, but you gotta win. But it went the other way. He got to the playoffs like, okay, maybe he got something. Yeah. But then boom, boom, he stepped off a cliff. Tom still played at an elite level.
Starting point is 00:10:47 Yes, sir. Won the Super Bowl. He got to the playoffs every year. There you have it. Yeah. The reason why the Patriots won was because of 1-2. Not the only reason, but now people was willing to give him more of the credit.
Starting point is 00:11:03 More credit, yeah. And also you have to understand when one two leaves when he leaves up leave New England in order for bill Patriots Robert Crafter still has that continued success You got to have the heir apparent at the most important position on the field that touches the ball every play You got to have one of those on You have to have one of those to compete you got to yes one of those, huh? You have to have one of those to compete. You got to. Yes.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Now those are some big shoes you got to fill, but it's a tall task, especially when you talk about filling the shoes of the greatest of all time. Yeah, but the thing that I'm concerned about is that Coach Belichick had an up-close and personal look at Tom, and he know how motivated he was by the slightest of slights. Oh yeah. You put the biggest slight on the world on this man. It wasn't that he was drafted in the sixth round. It wasn't that he had to start as a backup.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Even after the greatness in which he had displayed for you for 20 years, he was willing to push him out. Can you imagine Ocho? Yeah. 20 years of excellence excellence six Super Bowls All those appearances nine appearances And so, you know what we appreciate your services, but we think the guy that we got behind just better Yeah, so what do you think that was gonna do for Brady?
Starting point is 00:12:17 If you think he was motivated by not being the first quarterback taken or one of the middle quarterbacks taken He was taking in the sixth round 199 quarterback taken or one of the middle quarterbacks taken. He was taken in the sixth round. 199. You just put the biggest, you just put the biggest target on your back. Right. Puka Nakua's NFL career is just beginning, but the wide receiver has already has already has a retirement age in his mind as he entered his third season with the Rams.
Starting point is 00:12:42 I want to retire at age 30. Puka said. The Pro Bowl Wild Out explained that he wants to follow a similar path to Aaron Donald to go out on top. I think it would be super cool. By the time my kids could be 18, I could be barely walking if you play this game and you sustain all those injuries and stuff like that.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Don't think like that, Puka. No, you don't. You don't. You won't have to worry about no injuries if you go back on our diet. If you go back on our diet, you know, now I'm your nutritionist. You know what you came in eating when you had that historic rookie season?
Starting point is 00:13:16 You know what you was eating, right? Then all of a sudden you changed it up, you know, in the off season and you got nicked up a little bit. You know why? Because of nutrition. If it's not broke, don't fix it. Okay, I played very long time, no injuries. And I played reckless.
Starting point is 00:13:31 I was all over the place. I was in the air, I was on the floor. I was running people over, no injuries. If it's not broke, don't fix it. I don't care what kind of specialist or what they give or what they put in front of you. You're going to be one of the greats. Puka also said Julio Jones is the best wide receiver in NFL history. The perfect mixture of size and speed.
Starting point is 00:13:54 Like he could run every route on the route tree. He absolutely could. And for that size, a wide receiver body, it should look like Julio Jones. Do you agree? Oh, that's a good one. He could run the... He could. receiver body, it should look like Julio Jones. Do you agree? Ooh, that's a good one. That's a good one. He could run the, he could. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:09 And normally guys that come out of Alabama, one thing they can do, is run that tree. Oh yeah, they can run that tree now. Calvin Ridley, Amari Cooper, Jerry Julie, Devontae Smith, Julio, all those guys. Calvin Ridley, all those guys can run the tree. But none of them had the size that Julio, all those guys, Calvin Ridley, all those guys can run the treat, but none of them had the size that Julio had. Yeah, he's different.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Because you're looking at a guy that's six foot three, 225 pounds, dropping his hips. And that dig, on that comeback, that speed out, the over, the skinny, he could do it all. When I think about it, you know who I view? Now, I'm gonna get back to the question at hand. When I look at Jeremiah Smith, I see Julio Jones a little bit.
Starting point is 00:14:53 I see a young Julio Jones a little bit. So in comparison, when his time comes up, you know, his junior year, leaving Ohio State, I guarantee you that's gonna be his NFL comparison. Mm hmm. Um, now back to Julio being. Hey, he got to be top, top five, maybe top 10, depending on who you ask. Yeah. Hey, I'm talking about one of them. And I'll bet on what you like.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Look for me, the three until I'm going to have to reevaluate in another 10 years. Right. But the top three for me is Jerry, Tio, and Randy. Yeah, absolutely. Now, you can debate two and three, but Jerry's always gonna be number one for me. Okay, okay. Now, you can debate two and three.
Starting point is 00:15:32 You like Randy, you like Tio. Tio two, Randy three. Right. But Randy three, Randy two, Tio three. Yeah. So, that's where it goes for me. Now, Chase, Jetta, and some of these other guys maybe CD lamb Tyreek maybe gonna have something to say about that right but
Starting point is 00:15:52 Man Julio was special Julio and his prime. Yeah, I mean guy that size running four three Jumping out of the gym. Yeah, he was very well my fingers on show Julio reminded me of Tio. Tio ran angry, Tio played angry. You want Tio to catch a hitch, that corner ain't gonna tackle it. No, no, and he might take it to the house. Yes. He might take it to the house.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Yes. You ain't never seen an 81 get caught from behind. I can tell say that. He uh uh uh he would like, hey Tio, he catch that hit. If you ever let him face you up, yeah oh hey you better get him while he's like this here. Yeah. If he do this, yeah. And look you and your, come on safety. I all I'm trying to do, hey I'm trying to. I'm trying to shadow it. Come on safety, come on. I'm gonna force it back inside.
Starting point is 00:16:49 Man, hey, man Julio had a stretch there man. He and Matt Ryan. They were on fire, they had a really good run now. Real good run. They had a report, I hated that Julio had to leave. I hated that Julio had to leave. I hated that Julio had to leave. I hated that Julio had to leave. But you know, it's like anything,
Starting point is 00:17:12 Ocho, you paid, you paid, you paid, you paid, you paid. You don't want a Subo, you gonna have to break it up. You saw what the 49ers had to do. Yeah. You see, even Kansas City, you know, you lost Justin Reed. Remember, you lost a Ligeria Snead. You can't play everybody, Ocho. You see, Joe Tooney, they had to let him go.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Damn. Remember, they had Mitchell Swartz, they had Wiley they had to let those guys go You can't pay everybody. Yeah, you just hope that while we're paying these guys We can get a bowl or two because if you get a bowl is what is worth it They got worth it because they're so hard to come by. Yeah but uh, no, hey, you have a poop hey Everybody says that now. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:07 It's different, because AD was in the trenches, getting doubled every day on play. And he said, man, I just, ay, I don't wanna put that kind of time in again, and you see where this receiver money going? Yeah. Ay, I'm gonna play as long as they sitting on our checks, I'm gonna play.
Starting point is 00:18:22 Especially if I go, I'm not gonna embarrass myself though, you know what I'm saying? If I'm out there, if all of a sudden, I go from catching 80, 90 balls and they tell me, hey, we want you to be the fourth receiver, I'm gonna fight it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:35 Hey, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. I can't do that. But uh. What you think about me going back to play? No? Nah. It's over. How you know, it's been over For 15 years it's been over. I know I just got the phone call off. So I'm just I'm just curious
Starting point is 00:18:54 Nah, that's your your they say you need to play your easy pass See cotton they call you right at the edge of below thatV, that's the only people calling your ass. Man, ain't nobody calling you the police man. That's a young man game, man. That lateral stuff. Oh Joe, you know what? You probably still could run straight ahead. Oh, I can.
Starting point is 00:19:16 I can run straight ahead, fast as hell. Is that lateral? Yeah. Your whole thing was predicated on lateral quickness. Uh huh. Slippin'. Gettin' up out of there, dipping that shoulder. Yeah. It's getting.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Hey, because what a guy do, hey, you, because you never, hey, you played on angles. Your whole thing was to never give him your whole, don't give him this. Oh, never. I'm slipping, I'm sliding, I'm dipping. It's hard, it's hard. You say I can't do it no more. It's hard, it's hard. You say I can't do it no more. It's hard man. And that's the thing what people don't understand. Guys can still run fast. Oh yeah. In a straight line. But as a receiver, you need lateral
Starting point is 00:19:59 quickness to get up out of there. And if you don't have that lateral quickness, you gotta be good. You gotta be good with your hands and your technique with somebody up in front of you. Or you gotta be big like a T.O. that's played through contact. Calvin Johnson played through contact.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Julio played through contact. If you're smart. That tug and pull, I still don't understand. T.O. used to do it. Brandon Marshall used to do it..O. used to do it, Brandon Marshall used to do it, Julio Jones used to do it. They welcome, they welcome the contact and want you to grab and they pull from the inside,
Starting point is 00:20:33 they pull and tug you right through. And I tried that tug and pull shit one time in practice. I ended up opening it on the sideline. It was cool. First of all, Ocho, you need to, think about the guy that you said that look at all they are Yeah to be able to reach. Yeah Now you talk about guys to 225 to 30 that's able to play through contact. Yeah See your whole thing is like you trying to play on edges. You ain't trying to get physical with nobody.
Starting point is 00:21:05 Oh, no. Because, hey, if they stab, well, hey, I show Hope Carson looking at the other side. They got me. Yeah. Well, when TJ was just the opposite, TJ wanted to play through Cardi. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:21 He liked that. TJ was a big physical receiver. Yeah, he liked that. TJ was a big physical receiver. Yeah, he liked that. Yeah, so... Hehehe. Starting point is 00:22:24 Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of iHeart Women's Sports. It's Julie Stewart Banks. I'm doing a new podcast from iHeart Podcasts and the National Hockey League, and I'm paired up with one of my favorite players, the always quotable Nate Thompson. I wore nine Inuit gel sweaters
Starting point is 00:22:40 and I have story after story to share. And believe it or not, I have plenty to say, and not just about hockey. Believe me, he does. Energy Line with Nate and JSB is the name of the podcast, and it's gonna be, well, it's gonna be quite the ride. We're officially line mates, Nate. We're the Energy Line.
Starting point is 00:22:57 We'll have plenty of folks join us, current players, some of my former teammates, Hall of Famers, and wait to see some of the connections that Julie has. She has quite the Rolodex. Okay. We'll lean into Nate's playing experience and tap into our interests away from hockey and try to do what Energy Lines are supposed to do, provide an emotional boost. How do you feel about all that, Nate? I'm vibing, Julie. I'm ready to roll.
Starting point is 00:23:22 Listen to Energy Line with Nate and JSB on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. My name is Brendan Patrick Hughes, host of Divine Intervention. This is a story about radical nuns in combat boots and wild haired priests trading blows with J. Edgar Hoover in a hell bent effort to sabotage a war. J. Edgar Hoover was furious somebody violated the FBI and he wanted to bring the Catholic left to its knees. The FBI went around to all their neighbors and said to them,
Starting point is 00:23:55 do you think these people are good Americans? It's got heists, tragedy, a trial of the century, and the god-damnedest love story you've ever heard. I picked up the phone and my thought-damnedest love story you've ever heard. I picked up the phone and my thought was this is the most important phone call I'll ever make in my life. I couldn't believe it. I mean, Brendan, it was divine intervention.
Starting point is 00:24:17 Listen to Divine Intervention on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Ojo, the Giants reportedly haven't given up on Aaron Rodgers despite signing Jameis Winston. Following Rodgers' visit to the Steelers on Friday, the G-Men reportedly haven't stopped their pursuit of the 41-year-old. Jeremy Fowler reports the Giants have not given up on Aaron Rodgers even though they signed James Winston. But reading the tea leaves here, it looks like the Steelers are in the pole position to potentially get it
Starting point is 00:24:57 done. The Giants signed Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal. Excuse me. Just hours after Roger's meeting with the Steelers. Ocho, do you see the Steelers at the proper landing spot or is it the Giants? Oh, that's a good one. That's a good one. Me, I can't really put myself in Aaron Rodgers shoes, but if you look at the landscape of the offense on where I would prefer to be Malik neighbors is nice. Yeah, he's nice. That is one
Starting point is 00:25:31 That's one good one to throw to but you got two good ones over there with the Steelers, correct? Me personally, I would be choosing over there with Arthur Smith George Pickens and DK McCabe Let me get some of that. Let me get some of that. That's if I'm Aaron Rodgers. And understand what you could do with two dynamic receivers like that,
Starting point is 00:25:54 just get the ball out your hand, that's all. Just get the ball out your hand. I'm not sure who they have. Running back, just take some of the pressure off of Aaron so we ain't back there throwing the ball a hundred times a game. But if I was a quarterback, I'm we ain't back there throwing the ball a hundred times a game. But If I was a quarterback, I'm trying to go I'm trying to go over there with that with the crash
Starting point is 00:26:09 I call him the crash our brothers The Giants doesn't make a whole lot of sense because why would you sign Aaron Rodgers and Jamis Winston and potentially that means if you do that Oh Joe, that means you're not going to get a quarterback. Oh yeah, yeah. Maybe they just talking. Maybe that's all smoke and mirrors. Maybe. Maybe it's all smoke and mirrors
Starting point is 00:26:32 because what the Giants are going to do, they're gonna need a quarterback for the future. Yes. If they signed a Jameis Winters to a one year, they mean they signed a Ron Alderson to a one year. You gotta make up your mind. You gotta make up your mind. You gotta make up your mind. So where did that, so if Rodgers goes to Pittsburgh,
Starting point is 00:26:54 so where does that leave Russell Wilson? Cleveland? That's a possibility. That is a possibility. That's the only place I see. Cause Geno Smith is at the Raiders now. Bam Darnal is at Seattle. I'm trying to figure out where else could he go?
Starting point is 00:27:11 Who else needs a quarterback? They just put Jones and Indy to challenge Richardson. So I'm looking at the landscape, I'm trying to figure out where can he go? Yeah, that's it. That's it. I really don't like what they did. Well, I kind of like it and I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:27:29 From a competitive standpoint, I don't like what they do in the Richardson. But I also like it because now that you have somebody to push you and buying for your job, maybe that gets you to play at a higher level because now you have something to worry about. But also sometimes it's pros and it's cons to that too. But now what happens if you press? What happens if you try too hard? What happens if you try not to make mistakes instead of just playing freely?
Starting point is 00:27:59 I think it'd do more harm than good when you, I don't think they like Anthony Richardson for the future. Oh Joe, they knew he was a reclamation project. He was not a high completion percentage guy in college. He wasn't a high, he came in, his completion percentage was lower than Tebow's and we know Tebow did not have a great completion percentage. That's not I'm just I'm talking about in the NFL I'm just I'm just just the facts right just the facts and the mere fact that they went out and got signed up Jones was his name. What's his first name Daniel Jones? Yeah, what does that tell you and they gave him 14 million? How they gonna pay the back up more than they pay the starter right? What are they telling you? Oh Joe? Yeah They're right out of your bull jive uh-huh 14 million you see what they gave you see they gave James Winston
Starting point is 00:28:53 backup money you see what they give on the backup money I have a chat stop talking about uh uh cousins cousins was brought in to be a starter he happened to be the backup because he lost his job. Can you answer me something? Yeah. Why they give Jameis Winston, what, one for eight or two for eight? Was it one for eight or two for eight?
Starting point is 00:29:14 Two for eight. Okay, so why they gave him 14? Why you think? They surmise he's gonna be the starter. No, or does it have anything to do with age No Because here's the thing. Oh Joe the guys like hold on if I'm coming in they's right because they won't they want you to know They won't answer Richardson to know what's not coming to be your backup. Did you feel we paid it? We paid him more than you Now all this come come late leave early. Right, right. All this
Starting point is 00:29:45 bulls, the stuff that you been doing, it ain't gonna go no more. I got a question. Hold on. Hold on. I got a question for you. Who's the backup in Indy right now? Daniel Jones. Now would the Daniel Jones show us the last two places he was at? He didn't show us nothing man, I saw it because he didn't get in. My point exactly, so with the Giants he had flashes, he had flashes of brilliance. I'm not even gonna say he didn't lie, I'm not gonna lie to you. But obviously the Giants were in a position where it was either Barclay at a position that they don't value or it was Daniel Jones. So yes, I will pay and they decided to pay Daniel Jones But the small symbol size and what we saw from him, I mean he ain't the goddamn answer He's not and that's no disrespect to him. He's not the answer
Starting point is 00:30:36 But I think it's a good thing again, like I said, there's pros and cons to it you're bringing some competition Most players if you're competitive? Oh man, this sucker ain't finna beat me out my job. No way. He ain't finna beat me out my job. I welcome you. I welcome this challenge. You talking about you don't believe in me? I got you. Hold on. I mean, I wish they would have thought about draft and bringing somebody in, Ocho. You in your third, you about to be in your third year and they bring it a quarterback in Oh Joe man, please Yeah, that better be your teeth your 12 year 14. Oh now that's different
Starting point is 00:31:12 You know, you know the third years you're making a brick of you, right? Yes, third year at any skill position is the year you have arrived where it's gonna let us know if you've arrived or not Either you got it or you don't by that point. So I'm assuming right now the Indianapolis coach feel, you know what, we don't feel Anthony Richardson has it just yet, so we gonna bring in someone else that maybe can take over. But what we saw from the person they bringing in to take over
Starting point is 00:31:39 at one year for 14 million, ain't the MF answer either. But here's the problem that you're running against. Anthony Richardson, they're like, I gotta make a decision. You see what quarterback's making after their third year? Okay, I see what you're saying. I need to know. Right. I can't see, I can't invest $300 million and I'm still,
Starting point is 00:32:00 you can't still be a project. Right. With $300 million guaranteed with that kind of money. You can't still be a project with $300 million guaranteed with that kind of money. You can't, Ocho. So they got to make a decision. And if he's not, I got to go back into the draft because I'm not going to pay him 300 million. I'm not.
Starting point is 00:32:19 You see what you just saw what Josh Allen got. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, come on. We can't do that now. We can't do that. Now I understand what the quarterback market is, but Anthony Richardson, when it's his time to get paid, he's not gonna be one of the quarterbacks that reset the market like a Josh Allen or Joe Burrow.
Starting point is 00:32:37 Or a Jack. Let's see what CJ Stroud get. Oh, now CJ Stroud is different. That's my point. Now you see it my point Okay, where if he's the guy I've got to pay this number. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's all I'm saying Okay Now being the starter and having to pay for actual play is two totally different things But still even even if that you're gonna have to pay him an excess
Starting point is 00:33:03 Is he gonna be worth? Okay, Sam Darnold got three years, 105 million. Are you gonna pay him 35 million a year, Ocho? And still be uncertain? Yeah. See, the quarterback, that mark, see, Ocho, you can't pay that guy five, six million dollars to be your starter. It's in the 30s. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Yeah. Hey, ooh, hey, you're in a tough spot. I'm hoping this is his year. I'm hoping this is his year. You got to get it. Hey, Ant, Ant, I know you're gonna see this. Take it in stride, baby. Take it as a challenge. Got to. What you looking for? Dak is on the cusp of passing Romo. Dak needs six games this season to jump Tony Romo to have the second most career starts in the franchise history, trailing only Troy Aikman. That's a lot of mileage. He'll be 32 and has missed 30% of the last five years.
Starting point is 00:33:56 It is this year the Cowboys invest in a potential heir. Now remember, Cooper Rush is gone. He is in Baltimore. He is Baltimore. Yes, sir. I don't know. I don't know what the way Jerry Jones operates. I have no idea what they're going to do. I can't even tell you.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Now, I know that is missed 30 percent of a planned time due to injury, unfortunate injuries. But this is football. It's a contact sport. It's a violent sport. Injuries are going to happen. Injuries happen at every position. Sometimes you even though you try to prevent it, it's almost impossible. The NFL has done all they can do to make the game safer. Injuries still happen. And they're gonna continue to happen. Yeah, always, always. And as far as them finding an air, it ain't nothing out there to look for or find right now anyway
Starting point is 00:34:46 True, it's not It's not and that deck is only 32 I'm not sure how long he would want to play but he got a long way to go especially at the quarterback position Finding the air if you're gonna do it. It ain't right now So what are you gonna to do? Everybody look. Ocho, that make a 60 mil. 60 mil Ocho, I need championship. Oh yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:11 I need a championship game. I need to get to the Super Bowl. Playoff. Yeah. Yeah. More, more than playoffs. I can't be one and done. Right.
Starting point is 00:35:19 I can't get just to the division around Ocho. Right. You right. What am I getting for that 60 million? That $249.5 million that're right. What am I getting for that 60 million? That $249.5 million that's guaranteed. What do I get for that? Well listen, that 60 million, obviously you wouldn't have to pay that. You paid him ahead of time. You made him play out his whole contract. And listen, this is what you get. This is what you get. Dallas did that. Jerry did that. Steven Jones did that. You're gonna pay the... They're doing it with Micah. Oh man, listen.
Starting point is 00:35:46 One thing about a cat... Wait a minute, I forgot to quote that fast. What about a cat? You gonna lay on his feet? Nah, but I'm trying to use the analogy. A leopard never changes stripes. If they done it, if they done one thing one way all the time, regardless of who the player is,
Starting point is 00:36:07 they gonna continue to do it the same way. That's why you keep getting the same results. I'm gonna do everything at the last minute. Yeah, well, you can't do well here's the thing, you do that and the guy you gotta pay extra. Then you, again, dad, 16 million. You doing that with Micah? Yeah. You see the market exploded? Yeah. And listen, while the market exploding, they're going to have to make him the highest paid anyway
Starting point is 00:36:34 at his position. I don't know what you're waiting on. You might as well get it done now. Jamar Chase brought his dream Lamborghini this week after his historic deal. Check out this ride, Ocho. He says he's dreamt of buying this car for over 10 deal. Check out this ride, Ocho. Yeah. He says he's dreamt of buying this car for over 10 years. He raced T-Heggans around Miami. Ocho, how come they ain't call you? You got a whip, Ocho?
Starting point is 00:36:54 Yeah. Is that a McLaren that T got? Yeah, T got a green McLaren. I was with Chase before I left to go to New Orleans to watch Alvin Ailey, so Chase was with me. I saw it. very nice Lambo. Remember, I had a Rosa too during my playing days. Obviously, I have a Ferrari now,
Starting point is 00:37:11 but that's too much car and it's too loud for me anyway. You know, you get to a certain age, you don't wanna hear that kind of noise. But it's a beautiful thing in person. You know, Chase was at my grandma's house. Man, we sat there for two hours, man. We talked about the deal, talked about the contracts. Man, we talked about everything.
Starting point is 00:37:29 So it was a good time. I'm a Ferrari guy. I mean, no disrespect to Lam, I'm a Ferrari guy. They got that new Ferrari. What's that new Ferrari? They got a super car out now, Ocho. I think they say they make it $799 and they're $4 million. Right.
Starting point is 00:37:43 Wait, wait, wait wait come again four million man go ahead man going man look here okay by the car no time soon yeah I mean we in the same boat hey I got a 20 I got a 20 13 Range Rover got less than 37,000 miles on it. Hey, do you even drive that? The F80, they got an F80, it's a super car, right? About 1200 horsepower. You don't even need all that.
Starting point is 00:38:17 I'm just saying a person, unless you're a car collector, you don't need that. Unless you are a chic, or you over there in Dubai, or a car, now I can see, that's a different kind of money, huh? I can get something like that. Well, let me tell you why I can't see it. Because I can't see $4 million.
Starting point is 00:38:34 That's why I can't see it. Please, get that back. Listen, all you need is an F8. You got $4 million for no damn car? You crazy? Listen, I got a simple F8 Spider, that's enough. Yeah. One day, a Sunday, a Saturday, I want to go out, car you crazy I listen I got a simple fa spider that's enough yeah one day a Sunday a Saturday I want to go out hear the noise enjoy pull up to a brunch spot
Starting point is 00:38:50 eat enjoy smoke my cigar go home outside of that I can't do it every day I don't get too much noise huh well I just thought that noise is aggravating the heir to the Red Bull fortune just bought the former F1 Eglstone he bought his collection 650 million My goodness, I mean he got Michael shoe markers. He got the Michael shoe markers that he won his seventh title Nikki louder. Yeah, he's I mean he got whoo. Yeah, whoo Yeah, I can imagine. But I, even if I had four million, which I don't,
Starting point is 00:39:30 even if I had four million, and let me reemphasize that again, I don't. Yes you do. I keep buying that for the vinyl car for that. Hold on, but wait, if you were an extensive car collector like the Jay Liz or the Rick Rosses, then you would. Let me tell you what, I'm an extensive money collector, and I ain't got four million.
Starting point is 00:39:48 That's what I'm trying to collect. I'm trying to collect money, and I ain't collected enough of it yet. But look, I ain't got no problem with that, don't you? Look, you and I both, when we grew up and we saw people purchasing things, man, 20,000, ain't no way I'll pay 20,000 for that. Right, right, right, right.
Starting point is 00:40:06 When you get, it's easy to say what you won't do. When you ain't got it. Because when you can't do it. Right. But when you can, you do things that you never thought you would, because you didn't think you'd be in this position. Position, right.
Starting point is 00:40:20 So, but no, congratulations, enjoy it. Yeah. That's the congratulations, enjoy it. That's the whole purpose of it. You might buy yourself something. What's the purpose of working as hard as you can get at least one or two things that you enjoy? Be it a car, be it a watch, be whatever the case may be. Enjoy it. Listen, enjoy the fruits of your labor,
Starting point is 00:40:43 but don't get lost in the lifestyle. Don't get lost and become handicapped to the lifestyle in general. It's okay to enjoy the fruits of your labor because you work hard to get where you at. Yeah. And you know I had to give Chase that talk. I told the T Higgins the following day,
Starting point is 00:40:59 don't get lost in it. You can enjoy it. There is nothing, and I know all the NFL players gonna see this. Chase, I know you're gonna see this. T Higgins and anybody else that's gonna get paid. Micah, you next. There is nothing you can buy.
Starting point is 00:41:14 I don't care how much money your owners pay you. Nothing you can buy that is more valuable than your name. Nothing. When you get out that car and you take all them clothes, and you take all them, that jewelry, and you look in the mirror, boy that's the true value, boy, you hear me? You ain't got to do nothing to impress nobody.
Starting point is 00:41:33 When you go to the club, you ain't got to pop no bottles. You ain't got to buy no sections. No. Huh? Cause all the chicks, they done Google how much you making already. You ain't got to do Nathaniel. Listen to me, I'm telling you,
Starting point is 00:41:44 I've been in the game 40 years and still got all my chicken. All right. Mmm. Yeah. Hey, you got to talk for me. I got the PP. Go. But hey, Chase, you weren't that one, bro. You say you've been thinking about this car for 10 years. There you are. you got your rookie contract, put that up. Hey, I'm going to get me something nice. Got him a Lambo.
Starting point is 00:42:12 And it's nice. A fake CJ Stroud got into a Houston rodeo for free for pretending to be Stroud. He even had the Texans fans taking pictures with him. Ocho, look at this. Hey, hey, hey, that's funny. What? What? What?
Starting point is 00:42:27 It looks like you're in prison. No, they had to put us in through the other door. OK, thank you. The security said to send my kid. Because I couldn't go through the other door. You know what, Gus? Pass me the smooch. Oh, no, wait.
Starting point is 00:42:38 Oh, my god. Hey, take me. Oh, my god. I was expecting this. OK, now take it from me. It becomes all your, all your career, but it's like, I love you, all your career, I'll try some like, I'll love you dad.
Starting point is 00:42:46 I think I'll accept. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad.
Starting point is 00:42:54 I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad.
Starting point is 00:43:02 I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you dad. I'll love you. So, my kids... Listen, I just got the big son of rodeo. Four, three. You're looking like CJ Stroud. Why the hell would CJ Stroud be wearing his jersey in public? Or his shirt in general? I mean, you would have to be a true, a true football fan.
Starting point is 00:43:22 A true football fan that actually knows, man, stop playing. I ain't no CJ Shroud. Now you do look like it, and you can fool a whole lot of people, huh? That don't know exactly who he is, but just know, alright, I know he looks like the quarterback,
Starting point is 00:43:37 but I don't know if it's really him or not. So that's why he was able to get away with that. But listen, a true football fan, you ain't fooling nobody. you ain't fooling nobody. You ain't fooling nobody. You know, but I was like, bro, I mean, have you ever won your jersey out in public?
Starting point is 00:43:56 Me? Yeah. Absolutely not. Hell nah. Absolutely not. I mean, the only time, Pep Rally. Were you at high school, you got a high school pep rally Yeah, I remember them days. Yeah. Hey
Starting point is 00:44:09 Actually wear that thing all day all day in school. Yeah, you don't know Joe a game day Why don't tell me that they had that number two of walking through the hallway skipping class? That would be Yeah, you don't have it. What's what's you know, hey, the girl with your letterman jacket, you know what I'm saying, Ocho? Oh yeah. You got a letterman jacket? Yeah, yeah, bitch, I don't know where that,
Starting point is 00:44:32 matter of fact, my ex, my ex from high school, she still got my letterman jacket. That would be a nice gift to get back if I could get it. If I could find out what she had, I don't know where she at. And then, you know, we got all them patches down there to put these like region champs, you know, so forth and so on. State champs, you know.
Starting point is 00:44:54 Man, this joke got a whole, this joke got a whole, a whole jersey. Hey, this is Mel Reed, LPGA Tour winner and six time Lady European Tour winner. Starting point is 00:46:03 I'm doing a new podcast from iHeart Podcasts and the National Hockey League. And I'm paired up with one of my favorite players, the always quotable Nate Thompson. I wore nine NHL sweaters and I have story after story to share. And believe it or not, I have plenty to say and not just about hockey.
Starting point is 00:46:19 Believe me, he does. Energy Line with Nate and JSB is the name of the podcast and it's gonna be, well, it's gonna be quite the ride. We're officially line mates Nate, we're the Energy Line. We'll have plenty of folks join us, current players, some of my former teammates, Hall of Famers, and wait to see some of the connections that Julie has. She has quite the Rolodex. Okay, we'll lean into Nate's playing experience and tap into our interests away from hockey and try to do what energy lines are supposed to do, provide an emotional boost. How do you feel about all that, Nate?
Starting point is 00:46:52 I'm vibing, Julie. I'm ready to roll. Listen to Energy Line with Nate and JSB on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. My name is Brendan Patrick Hughes, host of Divine Intervention. or wherever you get your podcasts. violated the FBI and he wanted to bring the Catholic left to its knees. The FBI went around to all their neighbors and said to them, do you think these people are good Americans? It's got heists, tragedy, a trial of the century,
Starting point is 00:47:35 and the god-damnedest love story you've ever heard. I picked up the phone and my thought was, this is the most important phone call I'll ever make in my life. I couldn't believe it. I mean, Brendan, it was divine intervention. Listen to Divine Intervention on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A $20 million roster bonus is earned five days after Higgins put pen to paper. The only true full guarantee at signing is a $10 million 20s-26s offseason roster bonus.
Starting point is 00:48:22 The Bengals have a practical matter, a year-to-year option that can pay him $35.9 million for the 2025 if he dresses for every game and earns $2 million per game roster bonus and they can move on before the 2026 base salary become fully guaranteed. It's not guaranteed for injury because the $10 million guaranteed is not guaranteed for injury because the $10 million guaranteed 2026 roster bonus has offset language. They likely owe him nothing if they were to cut him after one year since he'd likely make more elsewhere. Yeah, man, listen, one thing about it, that language, that language always gets tricky, boy. That language that they put in there, it always tricky and the way you just said it listen I'm oh man I don't even know what to say I don't even know what to say he wanted it well you know I'll help you out he wanted to be there yeah cuz this
Starting point is 00:49:14 is a bull job contract you know it that's why you're speechless listen man I'm happy to pay him a dog he wanted to be there I mean'm having a payment though. He wanted to be there. I mean I hate that I can't I can't be mad anymore Joe because that's it. That's his decision. He wanted to be there He wanted to play with Joe. He wanted to play alongside Chase That's the only team that's the team that drafted him and he fell from some sort of loyalty But everybody that heard what I just read y'all know that contract is Bullied but that's what he wanted. So I can't I can can't, Ocho, we can't be mad. That's not us. Listen. I don't know, I don't know who your attorney was, but my agent would have never let me sign this contract.
Starting point is 00:49:52 I had you. I had the shark. I had you. I had you. I had you. But listen, I'm gonna be happy for him. Regardless of what's in that language, the band is back together. I don't like the business side of things, don't I? That's why I was so passionate about it from you know when we were talking about it when I was on ESPN When we were on here, you know, we talked about it. I was upset. I didn't like the first time they tagged them I told you because to me it was a slap in the face Now for the people that are part of the Bangles organization the people that are fans of it I understand the business side of things That's the side I don't like because when you tag me, they let me know, you don't value me long-term.
Starting point is 00:50:29 You know what? Normally when the team tags you, you know what? We betting against you, even though you're a part of us. I'm betting against you. That's what it tells me. Again, I love my Bengals. I love the fans. But the nature of the business is the one part
Starting point is 00:50:45 I do not like which is why I played the game like a little kid because I want to make sure I kept it fun for me So I didn't have to worry about that side of it because that that side of it it gets nasty Read what you just wrote chat. You just heard it. I don't like that side of things. I like the fact that the band is back together. I like the fact that he got his money. Now with the language that I just heard, ain't no telling what's going to happen. Ain't no telling what their plans are after this season. So I'm going to leave it at that.
Starting point is 00:51:19 I ain't going to say no more. I'm just happy my dog got his money. You hear me? That's it. Yep. Got some money. dog got his money. You hear me? That's it. Yeah got some money He got some money but like I said, oh Joe I For me, I can't be mad
Starting point is 00:51:39 Because that's here that's his decision and at the end of the day the agent can put forth is like, okay This is what they're offering. This is what we're gonna counter back at.. Hopefully we, you know, this is here. This they're here. We're here. Hopefully we land here. Cause you know, you want to try to pull somewhere to the middle, Ocho. But at the end of the day, this is team decision because at the end of the day, the agent worked at the behest of the player. Yeah. Team has their negotiator player has their negotiating you get in
Starting point is 00:52:06 I don't want to hear anything because you know a lot of times the agents shield you from all the negative stuff They play it there. I promise you they're saying a lot of what people say he's a number two He's not a number one blah blah blah Rock is shooting him for that. Hey Hey, they said look they would they want to pay we just trying to get you a number that that they can digest And it fits under the cap while giving you the money that you that they feel you deserve While being able to go out and get other plans also, so I get it Like I said, I believe T wanted to be there. He gave them a discount Chat like I said, oh Joe and I don't really really need to add anything else about that
Starting point is 00:52:44 Because at the end of the day this was T's decision Chat, like I said, Ochoa and I don't really need to add anything else about that because at the end of the day, this was T's decision. At the end of the day, Ochoa comes down to T. Listen, listen, we got to get it done. Law is happy. I talked to him. He's happy. You know what you get.
Starting point is 00:52:58 You got one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, top three, right now. You know what you get. But we got to get it done get but we gotta get it done We we we gotta get it done. We got to come out if it's what you're a bingo You're a big you're a bingo fan. I mean look you played there There's so sensual or T cut you played there you played there for a better part of a decade And so a lot of your roots people associate you with being a bingo Yeah, you had the one year in in in in in New England and other things, but that's not, people associate you with being a bingo. Yeah, you had the one year in New England and other things,
Starting point is 00:53:27 but that's not where they associate you. Not at all. You didn't have a career, it's funny, it's like, I ain't never seen a thing like this, but people associate Peyton Manning with the Broncos, even though he played the largest part of his career, Ocho, in Indy. Played 14 years, if I'm not mistaken, in Indy. He played 14 years, if I'm not mistaken, in Indy.
Starting point is 00:53:46 He played four years in Denver and more people. He lives in Denver. His home base is in Denver. You see him talking about Denver. You see him at the Denver games. The only time I've seen him go back to an Indy game, and Chad, y'all can correct me if I'm wrong is When they put the statue outside of him in front of Lucas oil other than that paintings at the Bronco
Starting point is 00:54:10 Hey, hey Matt speaking of hey, I got I got a question Yes, I want me a statue right there from the Paycore Stadium Dang I know how much you think it costs me to put it out there They ain't got nothing to do with me. I know what they got nothing to do with me. How much you think it cost for me to put it out there? They ain't gonna put it out there. I'm gonna put it out there. I'm gonna put it out there.
Starting point is 00:54:29 I'm gonna pay for it and just put it out there. That's private property. Huh? That's private property. Whose property it belong to? Uh, Mike Grant. I am part of the family. Let me tell you something.
Starting point is 00:54:42 If I had a knife right now and I was a cut if I was if I was a cut my wrist right now You know what color you know a color I believe black and orange Charter Hey Mike Brown Troy Katie Duke Tobin I'm going I wait till everybody's going. In the middle of the night, I'm gonna put my own statue out there, about eight foot tall, eight foot tall, with me toe tapping on the sideline. I think the people of Cincinnati would love it. Wait, wait, I mean Denver, we got a monument park,
Starting point is 00:55:18 where all the guys that have their numbers, like not numbers, tires, but have their name up it, you know, in the ring of fame, you're in the park. I don't want to be in the park. I want to be right outside the stadium. Like you could come by, you could rub, you could rub my head or something for good luck before you go into the game. DK Metcalf spoke to Marshawn Lynch about leaving Seattle and to play for the Steelers.
Starting point is 00:55:43 The grass is greener on the other side. No joke. Excuse me, considering the Steelers doesn't have a quarterback, how can he be so sure that the grass is greener on the other side? I'm not sure, but my grandma always said the grass is greener on the other side,
Starting point is 00:56:00 depending on who's watering it. So now you got to hold on now. People gonna hold on to that clip now. People gonna, they gonna go back to that clip. Now it don't matter who the quarterback is. Now there are two different type of receivers. There are receivers that need a quarterback to elevate their play and their receivers,
Starting point is 00:56:20 it doesn't matter who that quarterback, their play will always remain at the highest level. Right. So now you get to show us which one you are, brother DK. You know, I love you to death. I love you to death. And I hope what you say is right. The grass being green on the other side.
Starting point is 00:56:38 And a whole lot of, and a whole lot of wide receivers that can play through bad quarterbacks. Deondra Hopkins might be the best one I've ever seen. Oh, quarterback carousel out this world and then nothing changed. Not an ounce of production. Case Keenum, Hoyer, Brock Osweiler, obviously he had Deshaun for that great stretch and he and Deshaun was great, but it didn't matter the quarterback. D-Hop put up those numbers. Unbelievable. And so we're gonna find out, like you said Ocho, we're gonna find out if DK,
Starting point is 00:57:12 what he said that the grass is greener. Because look, I think the thing is, you get upset, you spend time there, you ask for contract, they won't give it to you, but you had to go somewhere else and get it. But they traded, they traded me. I don't get the trade. I don't, I don't get trading Sam Donner because I don't believe Sam Donner is a better quarterback than Geno Smith.
Starting point is 00:57:32 That's just me personally. And then you like you trade Geno, you cut lock it, you trade a DK. Now you left. Now you bring in and great. I think it's the same coach that called plays, I think Clint Kubiak, if the OC, he was in his year in Minnesota, Ocho. I know Clint when he was about this big. And then was my quarterback, and he's also my offensive coordinator, Gary Kubiak.
Starting point is 00:58:00 But the decision that they made in Seattle, it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but guess what, Ocho, it don't need to make sense to didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. But guess what, Ocho? It don't need to make sense to me. It just needs to make sense to them. Damn, man. I'm hoping it will work out. And I'm thinking it is going to work out.
Starting point is 00:58:16 I like the dynamic duo. I like DK and George Pickens. You know? Two of my favorite crash out receivers. You know what's going to happen if they don't get the ball. Oh they gonna get it. They gonna get it. Arthur Smith gonna make sure they get it. They gonna make sure they, listen. Well why did he make sure, why did he make sure George Pickens get the ball last year? Hey man listen, you know they
Starting point is 00:58:41 rolling covers to him, now it's a different ballgame. Now it's a different ballgame. Okay. I hope you right. I sure hope you right. What's up y'all.
