Great news. Wait, wait, wait, wait. Don't tell me that. Wait, wait. Let me sit down first before you say it. Let me sit down first. Okay. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me. We about to look like a NASCAR. We got another one. We got another one. Oh, yeah. We got another one. Yeah. Oscar Mayer bacon. Oscar Mayer bacon. O-S-C-A-R-M-A-Y-E-R-B-A-C-O-N.
Starting point is 00:05:51 You know how far back me and Oscar Mayer go? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Back in the days. Back in the days. Yeah, not when you... When I used to take the Oscar Mayer, I used to take the red, remember the red ribbon on the...
Starting point is 00:06:04 Yeah, the ring. Yeah, man, stop playing with me. Yeah. Well, me and Oscar Mayer, when I take the red, remember the red, the red ribbon on the side? Yeah, the ring. Yeah, man, stop playing with me. Yeah. Well, me and Oscar Mayer go way back, man. We're talking about 83, 87. Yeah, when you was... Yeah, when you was spelling
Starting point is 00:06:12 baloney wrong. Yeah, y'all go way back. I remember that, yeah. I ain't never spelled baloney wrong. I ain't never did that now. Thank you, Oscar Mayer. Thank you so much. We have two sponsors.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Olipop, Oscar Mayer Bacon. Thank you very much, Ocho. Worked very hard. We're doing a great job. Clearly, we're doing a great job because obviously now all the sponsors and advertisers want to be a part of Nightcap. So I greatly appreciate all of our sponsors.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Thank you so much. We're going to give you a great show. Again, August 22nd in Atlanta, Georgia. That's the Nightcap Live Tour. Houston, August 25th, which is a Sunday. And the following Friday, Dallas, Texas, August 30th. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com. We have another sponsor, Olipop, with the first, not Oscar Mayer Bacon.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Thank you, thank you so much. Ocho, we're going to get right into it. Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown, the first Celtics duo to each record at least 35-5 in an NBA Finals game. 30 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists. Jalen Brown had, I think, if I'm not mistaken, he had 30 points. He had like 8-8, if I'm not mistaken. Jason Tatum finally broke out of his shooting slump. He got it going in the first half. J. He got it going in the first half. Jalen Brown got it going in the second half. They tag-teamed the Dallas Mavericks and put them on the brink, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:07:31 Down 3-0. No team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit. Only one team has ever come back in the NBA Finals from a 3-1 deficit, and that's the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, along with Kyrie Irving. So down 3-0, no team has ever come back in an NBA playoff game down, oh yeah, I think
Starting point is 00:07:50 so, one half. Kyrie Irving tonight, we needed Kyrie to get going, Ocho, and he got it going, 35 points, three rebounds, two assists, four of six, he gave it everything. Luka ends up filing out, I think he had 27 points. They just didn't get enough support from their supporting cast.
Starting point is 00:08:09 And that was the difference in the ballgame because Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown got going. Derek White hit some timely shots. Holiday is holiday. But give the Celtics credit. Mavs get out to an early start, have the Celtics down by as many as 12. They don't panic. did a great job.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Joe Mazzulla had them calm. They fight the world all the way back, making a one-point ball game at the half, and then kind of seize control, 35-19, if I'm not mistaken, outscore the Mavs in the third quarter. Mavs make a valiant effort to try to get back into the ball game, but it wasn't nearly enough, Ocho. Now they're faced elimination on Friday night. They've got to win or they're going home.
Starting point is 00:08:49 You watch this game, Ocho. What did you see from the Celtics that really impressed you? Besides the win, obviously winning is impressive. You know what? The Celtics did what they did best. And it made me question. We always talk about the pundits, the analysts. They talk about the best players on the analysts they talk about um the best players on
Starting point is 00:09:06 the celtics uh jason tatum and what jason tatum needs to do as far as winning mvp is concerned and all those things and putting the team on your back and and all the pressure that that is on jason tatum when i come to ask myself a certain question after some of the other series including this series maybe outside of this game tonight in is Jason Tatum actually the best player on the Celtics team, for that matter? Is Jason Tatum the right person to be asking some of the things that they're asking of him to do, being that it seems like it should be being asked of
Starting point is 00:09:38 from somebody else with the last name Brown? I don't know if my eyes are fooling me, or maybe I haven't been watching a game of basketball or the Boston Celtics long enough to where I might be wrong. But Jalen Brown is the real deal, man. Jalen Brown is the real deal
Starting point is 00:09:56 based on what I've seen so far. So for some reason, I always see Jalen Brown cooking, but then from the media pundits, I'm always hearing Jason Tatum's name. So the math ain't mathing to me. It's not making any sense to me. The one doing the work on the court,
Starting point is 00:10:13 the dirty work, the hard work, and scoring the points, and showing up in every game, no matter what the press situation may be, is Brother Brown. And then Jason Tatum at times, you know, he has nights off he has a night on
Starting point is 00:10:27 tonight he had a night on so it was confusing to me the fact they didn't have Porzingis tonight and they still they still I'm not going to say dominated the game you know at the half they were only up by three but they still won the game
Starting point is 00:10:42 like come on this is a game that you had to have. You had to have. You can't foul out by no means. By no means. Luke, you cannot foul out in that situation. You just can't. No, you can't take a chance in that situation. You got five fouls.
Starting point is 00:11:01 The risk reward isn't great enough. Because you're going to pick up six as opposed to if they call it, but nah, it's just not good enough. I think the thing that happened is like Jason Tatum was supposed to have next and he still might. He's the guy that was mentored by Kobe. He was the guy that was supposed to be the face.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Let me ask you the question. Even though you're late to the party somewhat, have you ever heard Jalen Brown be potential to face of the NBA? No. No. As a matter of fact, you heard me regurgitate it, right? Because I'm saying what I've heard other people say,
Starting point is 00:11:35 so I'm thinking he's the next one up. And I got people making fun of me on Twitter. It's about, you can tell Chad don't watch no damn basketball. He's about Jalen Brown. I mean, Jason Tatum is the face of the Indian. Huh? What are you talking about? Well, I'm just saying what everyone else was saying, and I'm thinking it's going to show up when I watch the games.
Starting point is 00:11:51 And I'm like, well, wait a minute. Are they sure Jason Tatum? You think they meant Jalen Brown? Well, he's the one playing with that mama mentality. He's the one showing up hitting clutch shots in every game. He doesn't disappear. Yeah, I
Starting point is 00:12:07 think the thing is that JT, you know, he was mentored by Kobe. He trained with Kobe. And so he was supposed to adopt that mentality. He was the better player early. He was the first team all being NBA selection for the last three years. He was the guy that went to the all-star game. And so
Starting point is 00:12:23 he was supposed to have that plate. Plus he's playing in a story franchise. He's the best player on that franchise. And yeah, he still gets some double. But right now I've said this before and people are, oh, you don't know what you're talking about. Jason Tatum, excuse me, Jalen Brown has been their best player in the playoffs. We can debate whether or not who's the best player. You can debate that till the cows come home.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Some people will say JB. Some people will say JT. Some people will say jt because he's still getting constant double team everybody's setting their defense to stop him and so jb's getting a lot of one-on-one and he's going against their second best player whoever that defensive player is all i know is this in the playoffs jalen brown has been the best selter he has has. He's taken on the assignment. He's taken Luka. They put Jason Tatum on Daniel Gafford. So it's a combination. And they got a lot of guys that can throw at him.
Starting point is 00:13:12 They got Derek White, who's in all their defensive selection. They got Holiday. We know what he is on the defensive end. You got a big Jalen Brown that's 6'7", that can throw at him. So they can throw three different bodies at him. None of those guys are Jason Tatum. And when Jason Tatumum was on him we saw early in the game he blew right by him luca blew right by jt and so this is not a question tonight whether we can debate this at a later date um i used to say the same thing that you said no joke but i can't say it with any degree of
Starting point is 00:13:40 certainty that jason tatum is the better player than Jalen Brown. I can't say that with any degree of the certainty. Once upon a time I could, but if you look at J a J B and the work that he's put in, in the off season, as far as shooting the basketball and start, we always had great athleticism, but if you watch the way he shoots the ball, you watch the way he handles the ball a little better.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Yeah. He gets a little careless sometime and his handle gets away from his body, but he worked extensively on being able to handle the ball better and you saw late in the ball game he hit big shot after big shot after big shot so for me i can't say with any degree of certainty that jason tatum is the best celtic because jaylen brown has something to say about it he was named larry bird when they win this series he's going to be the finals MVP I don't know how fitting it would be the Bill Russell award
Starting point is 00:14:32 Mr. Russell the finals MVP is named after him and so he will have two awards named after two Celtics great Eastern Conference MVP Larry Bird Award. The Finals MVP, the Bill Russell Award.
Starting point is 00:14:50 But he would have been sensational in these playoffs. We know what he did in that last series. He was the Larry Bird Award winner. Hit the big shot in the fourth overtime. And he's been outstanding. He's been hounding Luka. Luka's getting his points, but he's not doing it in the most efficient manner. So give him credit, but the Celtics have the Mavs
Starting point is 00:15:10 on the brink of elimination. Up 3-0. One game, Friday night, it could be a clean sweep, and the Boston will take the league over the Lakers. 18 titles to 17 titles. That's crazy, man. That's crazy when I think about it. It's my fault. It's my fault.
Starting point is 00:15:26 It's my fault. Pick it with my heart. Pick it with my heart, understanding my love for Kyrie Irving and his skill set and what he's done for the game and the excitement that he brings as a player. I
Starting point is 00:15:41 picked the Mavs. I said the Mavs in seven and I said the Mavs. You know, I said the Mavs in seven, and I said the Mavs in seven with confidence, you know, with my chest very high, you know, knowing that I don't even know the goddamn game of basketball like that. And here I go. I done put my foot all in my mouth, you know, and the heel, the whole foot, and the big toe. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:58 But it's okay. It's okay. I got people on Twitter, you know, talking about, oh, I'm the reason the goddamn Mavs losing and down 3-0. No, I'm not. No, I'm not. If you watch the goddamn games, you know why they down 3-0. It ain't got nothing to do with me picking them to win in 7.
Starting point is 00:16:14 But that's neither here nor there. At least, listen, at least the Mavs put up a fight tonight. They look better. They look better. Kyrie was goddamn aggressive coming out the gate. Goddamn Luke was aggressive coming out the gate. And I think that was due to not having to deal with the length and the height of Borzingas down low in the block or in the post. Not having to deal with that.
Starting point is 00:16:33 So, you know what I'm going to do tonight? I'm going to go be aggressive because I can. But again, Jalen Brown, Derek White, at times, they made every shot difficult. Nothing was easy. Nothing was easy, man. They were looking for something. They got nothing from Kleber. They got nothing from Tim Hardaway Jr.
Starting point is 00:16:52 He was 0-5 from the floor, 0-3 from the three. He had zero points. That's not fair. How much you going? How much? Tim Hardaway Jr., he played 27 minutes, right? They didn't bid it. No, he played 19 minutes.
Starting point is 00:17:03 How many minutes? 19. Okay. I'm bad. He played 27 minutes, right? They didn't bid it. No, he played 19 minutes. How many minutes? 19. Okay. I'm bad. He played 19 minutes. How many times, how many games has he played in not this series,
Starting point is 00:17:12 just in the playoffs in general? He played a lot more against OKC than he did any other series. How long ago was that? That was, that was, that was, that was what? Second round.
Starting point is 00:17:24 Second round. you you ain't making no burn all this time and all of a sudden we need a little bit more offense we want you to do something that you haven't done in a very long time something that we basically you know what you're not on the bench because we we feel you can't really help contribute in a certain area so you're gonna ride the bench oh now all of sudden, now you want to count on me. Now you want to come to me because you need a little off with the spurt. That's the job of a role player. That's his job.
Starting point is 00:17:53 It's kind of like the guy, it's like the wide receiver that don't come in and start and he plays the slot. What you expecting of him? Are you expecting him to catch the ball when he throws to him? You expecting to make that catch on third down? You expecting to make it? But then, again, we're talking about a finals.
Starting point is 00:18:07 A finals. Those adjustments need to be made way ahead of time. Understanding we're not going to win this ISO game. We're not going to win the ISO game. We need all motherfucking hands on deck. Oh, shit, I'm sorry. My bad. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:18:21 We need all hands on deck. I need all scores. Tim Hardaway, at some point, if I'm sorry. We need all hands on deck. I need all scores. Tim Hardaway, at some point, if I'm not mistaken, I'm sure he can get you 15-17 at some point. That's why they inserted him. But he had a couple of great looks.
Starting point is 00:18:37 Doing it on the back end, when, I mean, you're already drowning. I'm already underwater, but now you're throwing me a life raft. But what? I'm under the water. I'm under the water now. That's your job.
Starting point is 00:18:50 That's the job of a role player. It's not easy because they're asking you to do something when you're not in the rhythm. But that's why you go in and you get those shots up, shoot around. You get there early. You stay late. You come out because you never know when your number's gonna call. Malcolm Butler, he didn't know his number was gonna get called. But what happened, Ocho?
Starting point is 00:19:10 In the Super Bowl. He read that, he read, hey, he banjoed that, he banjoed, wait. No, they didn't, oh, they didn't pass it off, did they? They took it man. Oh, they was in man. They took it man. Hey, he jumped that so fast. Brandon Brown oppressed it. And when Brandon one Brandon pressed it was a wrap
Starting point is 00:19:26 That's what made the play Yeah Cause he don't have any traffic To fight through You're trying to hope so to make him bubble But once Brandon get that freeze on him And he can just knife it It's a dead play
Starting point is 00:19:43 But give the Celtics credit. Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown are the first Celtics duo to each have at least 30 points, at least five rebounds, at least five assists in an NBA Finals game. They put the Mavs on the brink of elimination. They forced them down 3-0 on a night in which Kyrie had 35 and Luka had 27, but it wasn't enough to overcome the dynamic duo and Jason and Derek white shipping in giving them 16 big points and the Celtics are one win away.

A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest. I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. I got swept up in Kabir's journey, but this was only the beginning. In a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron and the consequences for everyone involved. You mix homesteading with
Starting point is 00:21:57 guns and church and a little bit of the spice of conspiracy theories that we liked. Voila! You got straight away. Starting point is 00:23:01 app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Kevin Garnett says that Luka Doncic is the only one who can catch LeBron James scoring record. KG said, listen, Luka is set up to be the only N-I-G-G-A to catch Bron. Nobody wants to say this-ish. Listen to Luka averaging 30. What do you do this year? 33 on one leg, drinking beer, having fun, doing God who
Starting point is 00:23:35 knows what. Yeah? Because if you look at Ocho, he's ahead of the pace where Bron was at the same age. The question is, you see Bron's training. Now, here's the thing. It's not like Bron is done.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Bron's about to sign another two-year plus option. The record right now at 40,000, probably when LeBron is done, it's going to probably be somewhere around 43,000 to 44,000. The question is, is Luka going to get himself in shape, keep himself in shape,
Starting point is 00:24:08 because smoking hookah and drinking beer, I don't know if that's the most conducive way to do it. Stuff like that doesn't hit you on the back end of your career. Stuff like that is already in you, Unc. Stuff like that is already in you. It was already embedded in LeBron
Starting point is 00:24:24 to always train in the manner in which he trains at and just understand it in order for me to want to play for a very long time and be consistent at what I do. These are the things they have to put in. Luka been playing as a pro
Starting point is 00:24:38 for a very long time and a completely different structural system that isn't really like ours, which is why he's able to get away with what he does, where I don't think he would have the longevity that LeBron has to even reach 40,000 points. Absolutely not. No.
Starting point is 00:24:55 You think magically he's just going to click and be like, you know what? I'm just going to strictly lock in on basketball, even in the offseason, and train like a madman no if you look at it ocho if you look at the european players most of those guys grew up wanting to be messy wanting to be ronaldo wanting to be pele wanting to be maradona so the scoring you know being the best nba player is not really how on their radar you look at yokich yokich would rather be racing his horses than probably playing in a game.
Starting point is 00:25:26 It doesn't mean the same. It doesn't carry the same weight. So for a European player, probably soccer is probably their first love. Now, they got good at that. Obviously, Jokic got too big to play soccer, and so did Luka. But it doesn't mean the same thing because as an American player, you grow up knowing what numbers are if you play football you know how many yards emmett's rushed for now that brady
Starting point is 00:25:51 has the record you know how many touchdowns and things of that nature how many uh receptions and yards and touchdowns that jerry rice have same thing in baseball same thing in basketball but they they didn't grow up looking at like man man, I want to be this. I want to be that. I don't think that's how they look at it, Ocho. But I don't think the thing is, I don't think he's going to be around long enough. He said it, that nah, nah, nah, nah, I'm not going to be around that long. Because
Starting point is 00:26:15 he's able to get away this now because he's young. He's young. And you see his body. He's beat up now. His knee, his ankle, cartilage. I was just going to say that. You notice how young he is? They say he's only and you know you see his body he's beat up now hey that's so funny I was just gonna say that you notice how young he is they say he's only 25 right but if you if you watch his mannerisms you watch the way he walked the way he moves he moved like an old man move like a 35 that's funny that's funny and I think it's because he's been playing the game of basketball at a high intense
Starting point is 00:26:41 a high intense level for such a long time that has beat his body up even at a young age. Yeah. So it's going to be interesting. I don't believe, I don't believe now he could change it around, but I don't believe he's going to stay around long enough to get that record. No. Because even if he averaged
Starting point is 00:27:00 35, somebody said that if he averaged 35 points for the next 10 years, he still would be over 4,400 points away damn 30 so if he averaged 35 points a game for the next 10 years he's still 4,000 points away that's if LeBron were to retire right now I mean listen well LeBron's not going to retire right now so he might put another 3,000, probably another 3,000, maybe 3,500 points on the board, maybe even 4,000. So now we're looking at somewhere around 43,500, 44,000,
Starting point is 00:27:36 maybe 44,500. Don't think you'll get to 45, but hey, who knows? It's LeBron James. I'm not putting anything past him. But KG believes that Luka might be the only one that can catch LeBron James' scoring record. Remains to be seen. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:27:51 Nah. Ocho, we got a special guest joining us. She was the fifth pick in the 2019 WNBA draft out of Notre Dame. She ranked second in the WNBA scoring behind Asia Wilson at 26.4. We're excited to have tonight.
Starting point is 00:28:11 I've been practicing this, and I hope I get it right. Arike Ogumbawale. There you go. That's how you do it. What's up? How y'all doing? Thank you for joining us. Hold up. I see you at the Atlanta game hey listen
Starting point is 00:28:26 I saw you at the Atlanta game hey man listen listen nothing but love nothing but praise for your game obviously appreciate it
Starting point is 00:28:32 it was my first time going it was my first time going oh really so then I think we had nightcap that night right or maybe the following night yeah and all I could think about
Starting point is 00:28:41 in being at I watched the NBA a little bit the first thing that came to my mind for a comparison to you based on what I saw with my own two eyes because can't nobody tell me shit. Hey, I said, listen, she look like Kyrie Irving. That's it. That's the only thing I can say.
Starting point is 00:28:56 So you know what I'm talking about. Listen. I mean, I feel you. You know I'm going with it, man. Listen, it was a joy. It was a joy watching you play. I'm coming to see y'all play again in Dallas. We have our tour coming up in Dallas. And y'all have a game, I think, the day before in August or the day after. But either way, I'm coming to watch you again because I need the autograph.
Starting point is 00:29:17 I need a picture. I'm trying not to fanboy right now, so I'm trying to play it cool. But I don't even care. I don't even care. I don't even care. No, I appreciate that. Let's go. So, let me ask you a question. What do your friends call you? Do they
Starting point is 00:29:30 call you Reek or they call you Ayo? Reek or Arike. Don't nobody call me Ayo. Don't nobody call me Ayo. Look, there have been a lot of discussion. Everybody was talking about Kaitlyn Clark being snubbed or not being selected for the
Starting point is 00:29:44 women's team to go play the olympics in paris i think one of the biggest snubs were yourself leading the league in scoring everybody knows what you bring to the table can pat the rock as kairi said you can score um when the list came out and your name wasn't on it what was the first thoughts that go through your mind? Well, the thing is, I pretty much had an idea that I wouldn't be on it. So there's trials and stuff that go on throughout the years and previous, and you do it and you see the vibes.
Starting point is 00:30:14 And I mean, me being me, I just felt the vibes. Like, honestly, when it comes to that stuff, it really doesn't have much to do with your game. It's really about who they feel like fits with the team, which, I mean, that's on the men's side too. You know, you could have said Kyrie could have made it and stuff like that. Like they, the committee say they look for people who,
Starting point is 00:30:31 you know, I don't know, honestly, but I could already tell like that wasn't the type of vibe. So I actually took my name out the pool like months ago. So when the list came out, I know everybody in Hoopla like Arriga should have been, I knew I wouldn't be on it. Now that's not saying I didn't think maybe last year I would be on the team and I was good enough to make the team.
Starting point is 00:30:47 But when the list came out, I knew I would not be on that one at the time because I took my name out the pool. And with the pool, it's a big commitment. Like, if I know that they're not picking me, I'm not going to, you know, keep getting texted. That's what I'm saying. Keep having people pull up. Keep going to these trials when I know the vibe.
Starting point is 00:31:02 So, me being me, I'm like, I'm not about to give y'all my time if I know the vibe. So I knew for sure when the list came out it wasn't. But like I said previously, I did think I was good enough. But hey, you know, it's subjective who they think should be on the team. Everybody's great in the WNBA. So who they choose is who they choose. And I can't really control that one. You know what?
Starting point is 00:31:20 And I have a question. I'm sure the people that make or the people in positions of power that make these decisions on who they're going to assemble on the U.S. basketball team. I'm sure they are basketball heads. But when it comes to this decision making and decision process, do you think it's politics that comes into play into this? Because I heard one of the key words I heard you say is the vibe and understanding the vibe. words I heard you say is the vibe and understanding the vibe and it really shouldn't be about a vibe or anything it's about assembling the best team to represent our country so I know I don't I don't want to get you in any trouble but can you really talk about you know the the politics side of it when it comes to the decision-making process for them yeah I mean I can't really speak speak to
Starting point is 00:32:03 USA basketball in general but just when i think of women's basketball and just however many years i've been playing college and pro politics it's always surrounding it now whether that's whether that's usa basketball whether that's all-star teams whether that's first team and stuff like that there's politics even with the men's like there's politics in everything so i'm just it at that. What are your thoughts about the discourse surrounding the WNBA? We hear a lot of talk because it's the league. And there's a lot of comparison between Kaitlyn Clark and Angel Reese being the bird and magic coming into the WNBA.
Starting point is 00:32:39 And we know what they did to the NBA because all of a sudden they took the finals game off the tape delay. There was there was this new and it was a perfect storm because you got Magic and Lakers. You got Bird at Boston, the most heated rivals, the most fiercest rivals, and they go there. So speak to what's going on with the WNBA. And it seems like these rooks are getting a lot lot got a lot of credit for what's what's happening in the dub yeah I mean they they're bringing a lot of attention I think they should be getting credit to the point where they brought a lot of attention to the WNBA and the narrative that we
Starting point is 00:33:15 don't you know appreciate that is crazy because I love it I've been hooping so more people watching the better like I've been doing what I'm doing now people kind of kind of finally catching up and you know you got to give credit to Angieie you got to give credit to caitlin because they brought a lot of fans from college i watched the final four and i was at dallas because i live in dallas so i went the year before that and just how how many people was there was crazy like it was insane and i played in the final four i won a national championship and it and i thought a lot of people were there so this one i'm like they just bringing fans fans fans so we appreciate everything that they're bringing now.
Starting point is 00:33:45 It's not saying they're the best women's. No, not even close. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Like, y'all now seeing Stewie, y'all seeing Asia, y'all seeing just players like that. It was like, they've been dominating for six, seven, eight years. And these new players will do that at a certain point. But right now, I think just the WNBA, we appreciate everything that y'all bring.
Starting point is 00:34:03 But it's not going to be easy. People are supposed to sit down and put out a red carpet. It's going to be hard. It probably will be harder because of who you are, but that's just what comes with it. That's like saying, Ron, people shouldn't check him because he's the greatest. No, they're going to try even harder, and that's just what happens. That's just competition.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Are the fans getting popular, confused with best? Because two things can be true. Somebody can be popular and not really good. And somebody can be really good and not popular. So are the fans getting those two things confused, Reek? Yeah, I feel bad for the girls because they're not the ones saying it. It's the fans. I'm not understanding where the delusion is coming from.
Starting point is 00:34:43 Kaitlin and Angel have not said nothing. Like, they're the best players to come in the league. They this, they that. They just want to come. They know it's the WNBA. They know how hard it is. So they probably like, can y'all be quiet a little bit? Because y'all making it harder for me on the court.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Like, y'all putting the target on my back. So nobody blames them. Like, it's just the fans and what they bringing. But I think they learning now that this league is hard. Like, they seeing every night people that they've never even heard of killing or guarding and doing stuff like that. So, I think they're going to catch up more. Because now it's new. It's something to talk about.
Starting point is 00:35:11 They want a storyline. But at the end of the day, the league is going to keep going and the thing is going to keep being the same. So, they're either going to waste their breath every day or they're just going to enjoy basketball. Yeah. I heard you shutting down the critics, like, physicality. Because a lot of people are like, well, physicality in the dub is not good for basketball.
Starting point is 00:35:28 Oh, yeah. And listen, it's a male or female. It don't matter. The sport is a contact sport in order to play the right way. There has to be some type of physicality involved. Yeah. And people are being selective with what they're calling physical. Like if we don't talk about now, we're talking about the rookie so we're gonna talk about a hip check that's not
Starting point is 00:35:48 basketball but if we talk about somebody holding being stripping the ball and they might fall to the ground that's basketball there's a difference nobody's saying the hip check is being physical because that's obviously a flagrant foul and that's wrong like but it happens like because i watched the whole play so i seen you know kaylin talk to her after that so it's like if if you want to talk to somebody you gotta be ready for something no matter what it is like not saying the person's response is right but what they respond is what they respond is how they feel that you come at them so that's different but like i said i'm not the type of player to do that to a player like if you're gonna talk to me i'm gonna show it with my game but like people got to get confused dirty and
Starting point is 00:36:18 physical because it's gonna be physical and there will be some dirty but that don't mean we're all dirty it's just some plays might be dirty. Some plays not just like men. It's like Draymond might choke somebody out. Draymond might- Pat Bell. Don't forget Pat Bell. Pat Bell might, yeah, he might get into some too.
Starting point is 00:36:34 So it just depends really. It's like individual to the player for real. It's not the whole league. I like it. I like it. Go ahead, you guys got a mojo? I'm just excited for the WNBA. I'm excited for the path it's going. I'm excited for the path is going. I'm excited that it's
Starting point is 00:36:47 dominating the headlines the way it's the way it hasn't in the past, because if it did in the past and I would actually know about it. And as I continue to learn the game, as the game continues to grow, it's just it's really it's really dope to see. And a lot of people, a lot of people, they try to tell me, oh, oh man why'd you go to these games it's really boring it's not the same as watching nba and i say this is the funny thing now that i've been able to experience it and i've been to a game or two now i can sit here and argue with people on twitter all goddamn day see y'all y'all you see y'all fucking lied to me you told me it was nothing you told me it was nothing like so andand-so. Now that I've done my homework
Starting point is 00:37:25 and had a chance to experience what it's like in person, now I can go to bat and then the goddamn product on the court, it evens up with everything else the pundits and the journalists have been talking about.
Starting point is 00:37:37 There's a reason why y'all making the noise y'all making now. Right. We got some hoopers. I mean, you can see it. You see the highlights. You see everything. Like, we got some hoopers. I mean, you can see it. You see the highlights. You see everything. We got some hoopers. Every night, it's something.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Honestly. I mean, I play against it. Obviously, I'm a part of it, but we got some hoopers in the league for sure. I think you guys, Arik, is that you probably have to be a little better with the basketball for the simple fact you can't jump over somebody from the free throw line. You got to find a way to put
Starting point is 00:38:03 the ball in the basket without being seven foot tall, without having a 42 inch vertical. So your game, your skill set, the way you shoot the basketball, the way you get from point A to point B, it has to be pinpoint because you got obviously
Starting point is 00:38:18 the strength and the athleticism that a man presents. Women just don't have that. And then the WNBA, honestly, we hold defense. Like, the NBA hold defense probably the last three minutes. Last three minutes of each quarter,
Starting point is 00:38:31 last three minutes of the fourth. Like, other than that, they scoring 40, 50, 60, 70 because they just switching everything. I'm like, if we was switching everything in W, I'd probably have it 40. But we trapping, you getting trapped in half court.
Starting point is 00:38:42 You gotta do a lot. Like, you gotta do a lot. Like, you got to do a lot. NBA, I just be watching them like, y'all got it so sweet. Although they do got to play a lot of minutes, though, so I probably wouldn't be holding defense. Right. You know what? Ochoa and I wanted to say congratulations.
Starting point is 00:38:57 We heard that you just got engaged. I did. I did. Congratulations on the engagement. Let me ask you this. Were you nervous? I was. And I had a game that day, too. Okay. I on the engagement. Let me ask you this. Were you nervous? I was. And I had a game that day, too.
Starting point is 00:39:08 Okay. We were going on. I had a game. They were setting up. I had 35, though. I went crazy. Okay, okay, okay. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:39:14 Let's go. That's up, Flo. We lost, though. Oh, come on. I did good. How do you have 35 when y'all lose, Reed? I know, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:22 We in a tough position right now. We missing two all-stars. That's not an excuse, but we going through some growing pains. I'll just say that. But we'll be all right. But yeah, it was dope. It was amazing.
Starting point is 00:39:32 I definitely was nervous, but once it happened, like it was everything I ever wanted. So it was definitely dope. All right, that's dope. Listen, congratulations on engagement. I am also a wedding planner amongst other things that I also do.
Starting point is 00:39:43 I am also a performer. I performed at two weddings last year. So if you need somebody to perform, I can also DJ. Well, I'm like, I got everything wrapped all in one. You're going to run the track and then run to the dance floor.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Pretty soon, pretty soon, Ricky going to tell you, you know, he a minister too. Right. He'll do your bow for you too. Why would I just get ready to tell you I'm a junior? I'm a junior ordained minister too.

KGB explaining what he believes led to the arrest of his friends at a children's Christmas play. A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest. Starting point is 00:43:16 that your shoe game is crazy. Yeah, I got a lot of shoes and thankfully I'm a Nike athlete. So you can like, once you get that, you really can get anything you really want. But I got a lot of shoes, and thankfully, I'm a Nike athlete, so you can, like, once you get that, you really can get anything you really want. But I got a lot of shoes, for sure. Give me your top five shoes that you have in your collection. Dang.
Starting point is 00:43:32 I mean, I got the UNC Off-Whites. Okay. Yeah. Top five, I don't know. You got any, do you have any of the Yeezys? Remember when Kanye was with Nike, do you have any of the Yeezys remember when when kanye was with nike do you have any of the yeezys i got the runners i don't have any of like the red boots and so i know i got the black ones like some tan ones but i can't wear them like they just on ice because i'm nike um
Starting point is 00:43:54 okay okay yeah okay you got the 750 boots yeah oh yeah okay i don't wear them uh honestly i but the thing is i'll be in slides like if it's something tough, I wear it, but most of the time, I be in slides or Nike running shoes. Hey, I also heard you're one of the top five best dressed. I wouldn't say that. I wouldn't say that. Nah, we're not going to do that.
Starting point is 00:44:17 No, I agree. I agree. I agree. You be putting that shit on. You be putting that shit on, man. I try. So if you top five and you say you're not I agree. You be putting that shit on. You be putting that shit on, man. I appreciate that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I try.
Starting point is 00:44:30 So if you top five and you say you're not two, three, or four, four, or five, so who are your other four? My other four in the league right now, I'll give Tasha Cloud. Okay. Okay, yeah. Tasha Cloud. I'll give Skylar. I like her style um
Starting point is 00:44:45 Kalia Copper she got a smooth style that's Kyle Kalia Copper, Skylar Arike who would have fit? I get Diamond and Chips okay that's what's up so do you like
Starting point is 00:45:03 sneakers with all your outfits? nah I mean I. So you like, do you like, do you like sneakers with all your outfits? Nah. I mean, I used to be like super sneakered up, like Nike, Nike, but now I just do like some loafers or some like. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:14 Shoes that ain't got really no label, but they just, they, most of my shoes been covered nowadays. You know, I'm on the flare pants right now. So you might not even see the shoes. Hey,
Starting point is 00:45:24 you, you talk about bell bottles. You got see the shoes. Hey, you talking about bell bottles, you got them elephant bottles. Nah, nah, facts. So let me ask you a question. How long does it take you to put together an outfit? Do you know so far your next game? Do you have your outfit already picked out or is it like last minute?
Starting point is 00:45:41 Yeah, usually the night before. I already picked out what I'm about to wear for the game tomorrow. So, I'm not stressed because, you know, the game days, there'd be a lot going on. I don't got time to be looking. And it'd take a long time to pick an outfit. Like, unless I, you know, have somebody help me with an outfit,
Starting point is 00:45:54 if I'm picking my own, like, it'd take me a long time. So, I got to do it the night before for sure. So, can we tell the difference between an outfit Arik picked out as opposed to someone helping her pick it out? Can we tell the difference? No, because I got style. So whether it's the stylist or whether it's myself, it's all in one. I say when I use a stylist,
Starting point is 00:46:14 it's collaboration because I'm not just wearing what you give me. If I think a shoe go better with that, I'm going to wear that. Or a pant go better with this top. It's usually like five pieces. We talk about it, but if it's full fits and I really really like it, I'm going to wear the whole fit. But we usually talk about it. I'm never full fits and i like really really like it i'm gonna wear the whole fit but we usually talk about i'm never gonna wear something like like them nba players they got two thousand dollars on they look a hot mess from top to bottom it's never gonna be me it's never gonna be me so let me ask you a question when you go with so so
Starting point is 00:46:38 what what do you what are you trying to accomplish when you go to the game obviously you want to be stylish and you know because now every like everybody to fit entry to the game? Obviously, you want to be stylish. And you know, because now everybody, the entry into the game is damn important in what happens in the game. It just depends. It really depends on the time I had the night before. If I'm really about to tap in, it depends
Starting point is 00:46:57 on city, too. I like New York Arena. I like Phoenix, so I might want to get more dressed up. Or if I'm in L.A. or something. So it depends on the vibe of the game, too. But if I just felt like getting dressed, if I'm at home, I might want to get more dressed up like right or if I'm in LA or something so it depends on the vibe of the game too but if I just felt like getting dressed if I'm at home I'm gonna do that so it's never really like a rhyme or rhythm it's just whatever to be honest do you always get dressed up do you is it ever like when you go out somewhere that you might be seen um or four togs might grab you that you're not always to the nine nah no i'm no i'll be in sweats like the majority of the time like the most time i'm dressed up is the tunnel okay that's what i like
Starting point is 00:47:32 if i got somewhere to go yes but i also don't go a lot of places like right i'll be at home i'm a homebody i like to be at the house right right so what so what can we expect hey you mentioned that you guys going through a little rough patch. You're going to get some of your key players back. Are you doing your thing? What can we expect from the Wings moving forward in the reek? Fun basketball. I mean, exciting basketball. I'm a flashy player type, so I like to entertain.
Starting point is 00:47:59 I like to get a bucket. I like to keep the fans engaged. But I also like to win and compete and play with my team. So definitely, hopefully, a lot more wins. But anytime you go to a game, you're going to get something exciting. So definitely fans need to look forward to that. Who we like competing against, Reek? Who we like? When you like, you're going to schedule like, okay, yeah,
Starting point is 00:48:15 I know everybody's going to be watching that game, whether it's the Aces and Kelsey Plum and Chelsea Gray and Asia Wilson or it's the Liberty, it's the Nkul, if Jean-Claude Jones, if Stewie, excuse me, whether you go, now normally it's Seattle because they got them guards. They got Skylar Diggins, they got Jewel Lord. Yeah, that's what we play tomorrow, actually. Okay, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
Starting point is 00:48:35 Yeah, we play, oh, yes, we are, so that's the same. Some got to give, some got to give, really. Some got to give. No, me and Jewel, we be having, last time we played each other last year, we had like both games like 30 and 30. One time we had 41 and 40,, we be having, last time we played each other last year, we had like both games, like 30 and 30. One time we had 41 and 40. Like we be going crazy.
Starting point is 00:48:49 And we both went to Notre Dame. So it'd be competitive, but it's all fun. Even Skyler, like I love playing against great guards. Like, cause one, you cold, I'm cold. We about to see who the cold is tonight. Like we about to see what's going on. And I love when we guard each other too. So it's really like, we gonna take each other,
Starting point is 00:49:03 we gonna score on each other. So I'll probably guard Jewel tomorrow. She probably guard me. So it'd be fun, you know, playing against her. So I love when we guard each other too so it's really like we're gonna take each other we're gonna score on each other so I'll probably guard you tomorrow she probably guard me so it'll be fun you know playing against her so I love playing against her and other players like who get up like yeah I'm about to lock you up like I love that like I love when people come at me competitive because I know what I have I'm never you know scared to back down for anybody so we're just about to see who's gonna be the best tonight so you so you be so are you a so are you a trash dog will you be in your bag like that? Like, yeah, that's a bucket there, baby.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Yeah, but I don't talk to people. Like, if somebody talks to me, nah, I don't really talk to people. Like, I'd be more worried about the refs than anything. I'd be like, that's a foul. Like, I'm yelling at the refs. I'm not really yelling at the players, but I don't really trash talk.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Like, if I hit a good bucket, I might say something to that person. You know what? You were going Dancing with the Stars. What was that experience like? It was crazy. I was more nervous
Starting point is 00:49:51 for that than anything. Like, you think it's not, you think it's not bad until you get to that little stage and you gotta do something you're not used to
Starting point is 00:49:58 in front of all these people. just, like, it was, and then the practice, it's like, we had to practice like three,
Starting point is 00:50:03 four hours a day. I'm like, I gained a lot of respect for dancers after dancing. I'm like, y had to practice like three, four hours a day. I'm like, I gained a lot of respect for dancers after Dance With The Stars. I'm like, y'all really like, that's a lot. It's a lot. But it was fun. I met a lot of cool people, but it was a lot. Yeah, Dance With The Stars was awesome.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Obviously, I did season 10, Dance With The Stars with Sheryl Burke. And I always say it was a great experience. People always ask me about it. I say it's very humbling. Obviously, with her being a professional dancer and them critiquing and judging you as a professional, not someone that's coming in, learning week to week on how to perform.
Starting point is 00:50:32 So, I mean, it was very enjoyable. The funny thing about it is, I like it about the show. The whole point of the show, to me, it would be taking people with no background experience in dancing and watching them get better week to week. But my season, I had to go against Nicole Scherzinger, who was the lead singer for the Pussycat Dolls.
Starting point is 00:50:51 And what she does for a living is entertain and perform in front of people. So I'm like, well, why do y'all have me going against someone that already dances for a living when it comes to their respective craft? So it made no sense. But I did fairly well that season, so I really wasn't tripping. Well, at least you did good. That's all that matters. Everyone, please go follow Arike
Starting point is 00:51:15 on our social medias. That's Arike underscore Agumbawale on IG. At Arike underscore O, capital O on Twitter. Arike, thank you for joining us. Good luck the rest of the season. And congrats on that. I got to see both of y'all at the game.
Starting point is 00:51:29 Yeah, I'm going to see. I told you, I'm going to be there August. You know what? If they're the game when we're in town on the tour, we'll swing through. All right, man. I'm going to hold y'all to it. All right, why?
Starting point is 00:51:39 All right, appreciate y'all. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for coming on with us tonight. Yeah. Arike Ogumbawale, ladies and gentlemen. That was a great conversation. You can tell that she's a very outgoing person.
Starting point is 00:51:50 She has a lot to say, but she got crazy game, Ocho. She got crazy, crazy game. I got hip to her when she hit that shot. Notre Dame time on the clock, boom. And I think, as a matter of fact, if I'm not mistaken, I think it might have been against UConn. But she ended up winning the clock. Boom. And I think, as a matter of fact, if I'm not mistaken, I think it might have been against UConn. But she ended up winning the game, I think that was a while
Starting point is 00:52:10 ago. But she was a fantastic ball player. She got handles. She can flat out score the basketball. She can flat out score the basketball. And so it was really great having her on. Ocho, on a bit of sad news, the legendary great Jerry West passed away.
Starting point is 00:52:31 The basketball icon, NBA champ as a player. He's a finals MVP. He's the only man to ever win finals MVP on a losing squad. That was in 1969. He's a 14-time All-Star. He was named All-Star every single year he was in the league. He had nine NBA Finals appearances, had a series average in which he averaged 46 points a game,
Starting point is 00:52:56 a scoring title and an assist title, 12-time All-NBA, five-time All-Defensive, two-time Executive of the Year, eight rings as an exec, helped build a Shaq and Kobe and the Showtime Lakers helped build the Dynasty Warriors better known as the logo the great Jerry West
Starting point is 00:53:11 at the age of 86 has passed legend condolences go out to his family everyone that was impacted obviously the Lakers where he spent his 14 year NBA career where he was a general manager that put those teams together. He moved on to,
Starting point is 00:53:27 he was in the, with the Clippers, Golden State, then the Clippers. So, Jerry West has passed away at the age of 86. Thoughts and prayers
Starting point is 00:53:37 to go out to all those impacted by the tragic passing of Jerry West. NBA legend is gone. Well, you never know, bro. Never know. The funny thing about it is usually when it comes to celebs
Starting point is 00:53:51 or people that are well-known and death, it hits people differently. And for some reason, we take every day for granted. Every day we take it for granted because you never know. You know when you're born,
Starting point is 00:54:06 you're born with an expiration date. You never know when that date is going to be and it's one of the few reasons why people always say, boy, why you always hugging people? Why you always telling everybody I love you? Because I don't know if it's going to be the last time that I have any type of engagement with you. And if it
Starting point is 00:54:22 is, I just want the last thought or the last memory of me to always be, boy, I remember the last time I saw Ocho. Boy, he gave me a hug and told me he loved me like he'd known me
Starting point is 00:54:30 goddamn 30 years, and now my first time meeting him. Just a little, just a little. Yeah, Ocho, it says, we know not the hour of the day. And as the song says, it may be the last time, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:54:45 Maybe the last time we sing together, maybe the last time we pray together, maybe the last time we get together. Lord, it may be the last time, I don't know. Again, great legendary Jerry West passed at the age of 86.
Starting point is 00:55:01 Well, if you got any family, but you got any friends, you know, you don't talk to right now for whatever reason, y'all mad at each other. Think about it. Think about them not being able to say goodbye
Starting point is 00:55:13 and then being gone. You regret it. Man, go ahead and make amends now. Tom Brady was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame with his number 12 being retired in a sold out ceremony tonight in front of more than 60,000 fans in Gillette
Starting point is 00:55:30 Stadium Tom Brady was inducted into the New England Hall of Fame Robert Kraft announced that the like we didn't know this on show the number 12 jersey will never ever be worn again Kraft also said a statue of Brady measuring 12 feet tall
Starting point is 00:55:47 will be unveiled during the 2024 season, something the franchise has never done before. Brady expressed his thanks to Mr. Kraft and concluded by saying, I'm eternally grateful. I'm Tom Brady, and I'm a patron. I like it. Listen, rightfully so. Look at what he's done for the game. Not just the
Starting point is 00:56:06 Patriots in general. We know what he's done with the Patriots. We know what he's done for Boston. We know what he's done for that city. We know what he's done for that organization. 20 years. A good 20 years. A great 20 year run. Great. Great 20 year run. As a Patriot fan,
Starting point is 00:56:22 you know how good it has to be to know oh, you know what? It's almost football season. Guess what? Well, it doesn't matter what happens. We're going to be in contention. Oh, shit. Year two, we got Tom Brady at quarterback. Well, you know what? Football season's almost here. Guess what? We don't know how the season's going to turn out,
Starting point is 00:56:38 but guess what? We're going to be in contention. Hell, you know, some fans can't even wake up and say, well, I don't know how our season will go hopefully we make the playoffs we're going to be in that beat we're going to be in contention for 20 years straight it has to be one of the best feelings as an owner as a head coach as a fan of a certain team just knowing you're going to be there. You're going to be in the mix somewhere. Bro, he's the only guy, I mean, to play that long,
Starting point is 00:57:09 but if you take his career in seven-year increments, if you take the first seven years, he's a Hall of Famer. You take the next seven years, he's a Hall of Famer. You take the next seven years, he's a Hall of Famer. With the exception of maybe one of those years,
Starting point is 00:57:23 you can make a case that he's still the greatest quarterback of all time. If you just take out all those seven years, you still could have a compelling case based on how much he won, the consistency of what he won, and what he won. Super Bowl. Yeah. And the funny thing about it. Tom Brady, man.
Starting point is 00:57:43 The funny thing about it, if you look at Tom Brady's bad years, even his bad years, is better than most. Bro, his bad years, he losing the AFC Championship game to Peyton Manning. He losing to the Ravens. I mean, he losing the Championship game
Starting point is 00:58:00 or he losing the Super Bowl. His bad years not, oh, they didn't make the playoff. Oh, his bad year, I think maybe one year they went out in the first round. His bad year is not, oh, they didn't make the playoff. Oh, his bad year, I think maybe one year they went out in the first round. But for the most part, you could damn near pencil him in
Starting point is 00:58:11 for the championship game. Every time. Every time. And you definitely didn't want to see him there because there was a good chance that he was going to put foot to you. Tom Brady inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame with his number 12
Starting point is 00:58:27 being retired and Mr. Kraus said there's a statue that's going to be erected of Tom measuring 12 feet tall unveiled during the 2024 season something the franchise has never done there's a chance it'll never do it again the volume
