Joe, what you thinking? Yeah, man, I thought, I thought Dylan Gabriel, eh, I got to take it back. I said the man need to go get his CDLs. Dylan Gabriel, say, hell, how are you? got to do is give me an opportunity. Give me an opportunity, bro. Give me an opportunity to play with some of these guys. I bet you I can show up and show out. I thought he played great tonight, 12 or 15 passing, 186 yards, three touchdowns in the first half. I mean, he led three touchdowns on, you know, that was nice. You know, for me, he had several, several impressive

throws, including that 52-yard completion to Ben Patterson. Oh, Joe, I give him an A-plus, bro. He was accurate, he was decisive. You know, he moved to offense efficiently, and he looked comfortable attacking down field. So, hey, man, I think if you're dealing Gabriel, you done everything you possibly could to put yourself in a good opportunity, bro. You know what I mean?

So it may not be with the Brown. Somebody else can pick him up and may want him to be a backup somewhere else. You showed out in your performance. That's all you can do, bro. He had his opportunity. Did his thing. You see what happened when there's no pressure on you? Now last year when he was competing for the job, did he look like this,

I think they're as tired as everybody else is talking about Deshaun and Shador. And talking about the quarterback situation, guys. Guys were able to just go out there and relax, knowing that, hey, whatever's been going over over the last four or five weeks, it doesn't involve us. No. It got nothing to do with us.

We have no impact on who's going to be the starter. But I tell you what, I'm trying to go out here and make it difficult on them not to cut me. Yeah. There you go. The 30th is coming. The 30th is Sunday, if I'm not mistaken. Oh, yeah. They're going to have to get that roster down to 53, guys.

And hopefully I've made it as difficult as I possibly can on them because that's when I made it. I went all way to the last cut. We had five games, prior preseason game, and it came down to the last cut before your boy made it. Yeah. Hey, tonight was everybody audition. Tonight was everybody's audition. Most of the players, you know, playing tonight.

They auditioned for a job, maybe not with the Cleveland Browns, but maybe for a job or a position somewhere else. So it was imperative that they played well. And it's funny that the Browns looked this good, you know, with Dylan Gabriel at the helm tonight. So, I mean, it's a good thing for him, a good thing for the Browns in general. And listen, hopefully that momentum

can carry on into the season. Hey. Yeah. You're right, Ocho. I think you don't overreact to a preseason game, Ocho, but man, when your second and third units dominate like that 3413, you know, it tells me Cleveland may have a little more depth

than, you know, probably what we anticipated. You know what I mean? Don't tell me that. You don't tell you that? No. I mean, listen, listen, think about it. You know, those guys get an opportunity to compete, bro. They're still fighting for a roster spot.

Oh, Joe? Absolutely. And that's pressure. Amen. Two rocks in a can. Two rocks in a can make a bunch of noise. That don't mean they diamonds, Joe. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Absolutely. A lot of them dreams, a lot of them dreams dies tonight. And it's really that simple. You waited a lifetime. You were good in high school. You were good in college. You wanted an opportunity and you got it.

And your dream dies tonight. It's really that simple. Some will get an opportunity maybe be on the practice squad. Some will be on the practice squad elsewhere getting an opportunity. But eventually, all of these guys, even the guys that make the practice squad, Ocho and Joe, they're not going to be on an active roster. Eventually, their dreams die also. Yeah.

But you know what? Your dream dies also, but you live to see another day because somebody sees something in you. Somebody sees something in you to put you on the practice squad. You know what? I like this one.

We can develop him. We think he can develop into something nice and he can be of value to us later on down the road. Right now, we don't want to let him go and we don't want to cut him. So we're going to bring him back, allow him to develop,

and he can give those that are our starters and give us a look week in and week out, depending on who we plan. Hey. Yeah, sometimes, Locho, you're just like, you know what? Maybe if we give this guy another year up on his bill in our system, we have hands on him every single day.

We coaching him up. We let him. Because he's just, some of these guys are just raw. Raw. Yeah. I was a guy with just raw. I went to a small black,

I was historically black institution. And we didn't have, we didn't have A1 coaches that coached in the NFL or coached at the collegiate level for an extended period of time. They mainly coached at the black college level. And some of the coaches, this was their first time. coaching. So they looked at me and say, you know what, hey, he's wrong. I mean, he's

athletic as hell. He's big. He's fast. He's willing to learn. He works his ass off. Let's give him a chance. Yeah. But now, I mean, when I think when I came in, I think they would only have like five practice squad guys. Ocho, now you can have like that 15, 17. Yeah. And you got a lot. I mean, it's a good thing. It's a good thing. It's a good thing. Politics and number crunches, what number crunching it hurts because it's only it's only 53 spots so it's a good thing that you're allowed to have more roster spots oh yeah for sure yeah yeah yeah but i think the thing that joe before you go i think the thing is oh cho when they go to the 18 game i think people are lobbying you might need to take that that 46 man roster take it to 49 50 two by weeks in between yeah because that's an

awful taxing schedule on on the on the body now you're already pushing pushing the limits of what a body can withstand. Yeah. So now throw an extra buy week in there. You're already going to be down to pretty soon. We're going to have the Super Bowl on St. Paddy's Day. St. Paddy's Day? You got to have Super Bowl Sunday and St. Pattis Day.

Be that Monday or Tuesday, Joe. Right. You're going to go from being drunk on the Super Bowl to be a drunk on St. Paddy's Day. Go ahead, Joe. You want to say something? I'm the practice squad guys. Like, so all they do is just practice. Do they come to the game?

Do they come to the games? They don't dress out and nothing that? They don't normally travel, but they do. Some teams will let them travel. Some teams, I mean, they all come to the, I mean, I've heard like sometimes the practice squad guys have to sit in the stands. They don't get to stand on the sidelines,

like the 53 guys that made the roster that don't get to dress out. Yeah. Some of those guys have to sit in the stands and some of the guys get to stand on the sidelines. But I think the thing is, My job is to make sure I give you the best look I possibly can give. So whomever it's supposed to be.

If I'm supposed to be Pat Sertan, I'm going to be past or tan that week. If I'm supposed to be stingly, I'm going to be stinging. If I'm Christine, Donzales, hey, by the way, if I'm, if I'm JSCN, you getting work. Oh, yeah. If I'm chasing, you're getting work. I'm a, you go to, hey, hey, hey, a young fellow, no, sir, slow down. You are sure the job tomorrow. I am not.

Hello. Ain't no slowing down. Hello. Ain't nobody. That's the way I approached it, Joe. Hopefully these young men approach it the same way because you're not guaranteed because at any given time

somebody else might get released on a team they weren't anticipating. And guess what that means? Yeah. Now you go. Yeah. I'm not giving no, I was not going to give those coaches a reason to cut Shannon Sharp.

game for a very long time. He was good. He might have been a journeyman, but he had his magic, which is why we call him, you know, Fitzmagics. So it's interesting to hear him, his take on it. And I was saying at some point, no, Deshawn, we'll lose that job. I never, I never heard Fitzpatrick so, so raw and uncut either like that. Quarterbacks not normally that way when they, when they describe something.

Especially on television. Yeah. When they were buddies, they might talk a certain way. But anytime they're in public, they're on radio, they're on television or they're in a public setting. Right. They're normally not as harsh or as staunch in their critique, especially of other quarterbacks. Yeah. They normally told the quarterback line.

Yeah, they told the line, yeah. He ain't told the line. Hey, no. I thought, I thought Fitz was very blunt in the way he spoke, you know. But I don't think he told no lie, Uncle Ocho, I'm going to just be 100 with you. I think the Jaguars and the Buccaneers, their defense are, you know, are pretty good. And I think Deshaun got his work cut out for him, meaning he going to have to have, like, one of those historic games, you know, in games one.

So he's got his work he's got his work cut out for him I wanted to play well I don't want I don't want to fail I wanted to play well I just don't know

Based on the history from what I've seen of him Yeah I just don't know if it is I don't know how well he succeeds And and we don't know how well that damn offensive line gonna hold up neither Playing against some of these ones when the season starting they really down to the nitty-gritty because they've looked at their offensive line and look good at times but sometimes you know

I think obviously you're going to have to put pieces around him. He doesn't have a whole lot to work with. I like, Joe, I like your guy. I like Mike Washington, Jr. runs the ball hard. He does. Gumbun Wale, I think he's going to be there. Nice backup, nice compliment.

Trey Tucker is their best receiver. Obviously, he and Jalen Naylor. I think they're going to probably be contributors. Brock Bowers is the guy. He's their best offensive weapon. Yeah. He and Max Crosby are the two best players on the team. It's just hard when you play a dependent,

when you're the best player on the team and you play a dependent position. Yeah. Because now I really can't, folk, I can't, really showcase what I can do because we've seen what Brock Bowers can do. When he has a quarterback that can get in the ball. Now, we're gonna find out what cousins can do. Cause like if you protect him,

give him some time back there. Boy, hey, he's surgical with that ball. Oh, yeah, I already know it. I already know it. He's surgical with that ball, boy. Damn, I don't know, fellas. It's been a while since the Raiders been worth some. So, they had that one year.

The year that Cincinnati ended up going to the Super Bowl, Ocho. That was what Derek Carr was there. In your own, in y'all building. Wasn't that Derek Carr was a quarterback? Derrick Carr, yes. Yeah, yeah. I don't know, when was that? When was that?

21. 21? Yeah, they had a real good season. They hadn't been the same since. Hmm. So we're going to find out. But on the other side, Adrian Martinez, I like Adrian Martinez. Man, that boy, he got a good.

I think he got a future in the NFL. I really do. He got legs, he got a nice arm. Yeah. Matt Jones, you know, but for the most part, they let Adrian Martinez, obviously, they're not putting Purdy in the harm's way.

But I think, I think Adrian Martinez, and clearly Matt Jones is going to be the backup. Because when you feel you've got a championship contending roster, the last thing you want to do is trust that roster with a young, young quarterback that's inexperienced. Matt Jones has experience. He's been a starter. He's played well.

When Purdy went out last year, he played extremely well. Lost a couple of games that he probably should have won. They should have won. Right. He can get hot and get to get 340, 350 yards in a hurry. Yeah. And if Bosa is back, if Fred Warner is back to that level. It'll be nice.

I think they got a chair. I think the 40, look, that's a tough division. because the Rams are in that division. Seattle's in that division. In that division. So that's a tough, that's the, that's the toughest decision in football.

And they got, they got injuries to major guys though, Uncle, Ocho, these things, you know what I mean? Like they top guys, hell, all I'm dealing with some. They all in Los Pierce, all.

Yeah. Everybody coming back, though. Everybody coming back. So they, they got a clean slate. I mean, Shanahan has had to deal with some unbelievable, unfortunate injuries the wrong times.

That's it. That's the quickest way to derail a season. You get an injury to a key player? Well, first of all, you get an injury to your quarterback. Your season is damn there over. At that moment right there. Basically.

Now, you start having injuries to key players and, you know, guys out, three, four weeks at a time. Because you can only say next man up so long so many times before you're like, hold on. If it was the next man up, he'd have his ass up. He would be up.

He wouldn't be the next man. He's a man. Banks. Hey, that's a good one. Thanks. Everybody quick to say, next man up, next man up. How many next man you think you got? You're not like that.

Ain't nobody stashing starting players on their roster. All the starters that can, that's capable of starting. That's what they are. Yeah. So it's going to be interesting to see how this thing turned out for the other 49ers. But if the Raiders, if the Raiders can buy, if cousins can give them enough, can buy them this season. All things being equal, that's really what they're hoping.

When you've been a started for an extended period of time, Joe, you was a starter for 12, 13 years. Ocho, you was a starter basically from your second year own. I was a starter from my third year old. Man, it's hard to be on the bench. Yeah, it is, bro. Yeah, you figure the game out, you know what's needed of the game, you understand the speed and stuff like that,

but man, it's hard. You got to have a different down, third down. You run it out on the field all tight, trying to stretch. Hey, you pulling your leg back while you running on the damn field. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're doing jumping tracks on the sideline. Man, come on. Hey, listen, listen, soon as you're checking the game,

the dude you're checking, he already in a full lather sweat. You're like, yeah, I need by a leaf four, five trips up and down the court for I can open up this Chevy on the highway. You feel what I'm saying? So it might take me a little minute to get going. I know what you're saying, huh? Boy, I didn't jump that down on their freeway and them, them boys going 100 miles per hour

and you gotta try to catch up. Shit. Ooh. I'm stiffing the prom wood. I'm up there trying, ah. He, ah. I mean, hey, he just played it. Yeah, yeah.

Some cats, you know, especially if you're on a second unit in basketball, you might not get into the game until the start of the second quarter. Well, if you stand over there for 12 minutes of one quarter in real time, yeah, that's like 25 minutes sitting over there, bro.

Come on, man. They ain't doubling me that damn much now. Come on now. Boy, that's funny. You know, you have to bite your tongue, because like when you winning, the last thing you can do is complain when you winning. Be at least on show, you had a reason.

Yeah. I'm like, man, I don't even know why I'm playing. Ocho, I probably caught four pass the whole week. Four past the whole week. Yeah. And then go out there on, go out of Sunday, K's 12 for 214. Went crazy. Hey, hey, but you ain't had no expectations.

You probably went out there like, man, whatever, man. Y'all ain't there, you ain't threw me nothing all week. Hell, I'm just going to go out here. And next thing you know, that damn ball starts finding you. Boy, listen. I should have had, I should have had probably about 12, or about 247. I blew a route because I was like, man, you ain't throwing the route.

It was a, I was supposed to run a scene. And I run a seven route. If I step up the scene, he hit me. If you go back and watch the film, he's about to throw it too. And I break to the seven, he throw it. I catch up of like 20 yards, but it'd have been another 27 yard. It had been a touchdown.

See, man, you ain't even say, hey, you got to keep that up sleep, man. Shut up. You ain't throw me the effort ball all every day. Punch you in your face. Hey, hey, hold up, though. That happened quite a bit with wire receivers on it because I've seen some receivers, hold on, who may not have caught a catch, and then now they ain't even running their damn rouse hard no more.

You know what I mean? That happens from down to time. Hell yeah. Yeah, because I know I'll be watching. I'm like, damn, he ain't even trying to get open. Hey, some receivers are shut down on you, Joe. Yeah. You got to keep them boys involved, man.

I'm talking about your number ones. You got to hear about quarterbacks know that, though, don't it? Hey, yeah, they boy, they will check out the game, Joe. I'm talking about this, this error? Man, you play around if you want to. Hey, they start, they start giving you that bad body language, oh, Joe. And you can read it. You can read it all day, body language, yep.

Yeah. Yeah. And that's the thing, though. And the thing is like, and I was like, damn. You know, but I went to the game. I said, man, what if I run the wrong ride on this thing right here and show nothing? I talked myself and running the damn wrong route. I'd have a 47-yard touchdown.

I got a 20-yard completion, which is good, you know, 20-yard completion good. But I was like, damn. And then it's 10. And we're going in the half. Mike, uh, Coos said, hey, 84 be ready. We're going to open up with counterpads. I said, y'all said that all week. Y'all in court, y'all can't pass one time in practice.

I said, man, I said, cool, man, y'all been saying that y'all, be ready, be ready, be ready, I'm ready. Man, I cooked them boys. Boy, them some good days, well, I'm just thinking about that. I was like, hey, and the thing was, we play in Kansas City and Tony, and Tony was on the, obviously, Gonzo was on the other side. Yeah.
