Hey all you women's hoops fans, and folks who just don't know yet that they're women's
hoops fans.
We've got a big week over at Good Game with Sarah Spayne as we near the end of one of
the most exciting women's college basketball seasons ever.
The most parody we've seen in years, with games coming down to the wire and everyone
wondering which team will be crowned national champions this weekend in Tampa.
Listen to Good Game with Sarah Spayne on the iHeart Radio app, Apple podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, I'm Laura, host of the podcast
Courtside with Laura Corenti,
a masterclass case study of the business of women's sports.
I'll be chatting with leaders like tennis icon,
Alana Kloss.
I don't do what I do only for women.
I do it for everyone.
And I want the whole market.
And innovators like Jenny Nguyen.
I would say 50% of the people that come visit
the Sports Bra aren't sports fans.
They come to be in community.
They come to be part of this culture.

Let's go to a game.
Buddy Hill and Jarvan Rand was warned by the NBA
about the finger gun situation.
But, but again tonight, Jar hit the game winner.
Man, you know who he beat?
Beat the Heat.
Joe, if you could, if you could look, man. You know who he beat? Beat
the heat. Joe, if you could, if
you could look as a veteran
playing 1718 years in this
league, if you had an
opportunity to sit down with
jaw and impart some wisdom upon
him, what would you tell it? I
tell him, uh jaw come come come
spend some time with me. Come
get in this hot yoga room and we're gonna zap all that little energy up out of you and ain't gonna be none of them
maybe gonna be fine no more than we go we gonna get you right but I think
that's kind of what the NBA is lacking honestly uh that veteran presence that
can help these young guys because nowadays you got guys getting drafted
and they go on the teams and and and Ja is the guy who they looking up his job
24 he 23 24 and these are the guy who they looking up to. Jai 23, 24.
He's 23, 24.
And these are the guys who, you know, your young guys are looking up to
and emulating and want to be like.
So I think you got to have all the guys in there, man,
who can really teach these dudes a rope, show them how to be pros on and off the floor.
Yes, sir. Yeah.
Hey, Joe, do you think obviously you think about players like that,
that are young, like a jaw and some of the other players that are around the league?
Do you think trying to tone down some of the some of the mannerisms,
some of the extracurricular activity and things they like to do on the court?
Do you think that it will take away from their game
and what makes them them being that he's so young
and he can resonate with with the rest of the youth?
You think that's some of that?
Some of that that that would make Ja Ja in general.
Yeah, no, I love it.
I know they probably going to try to ban some of the stuff,
but I love the antics and the celebrations and things like that.
So I think that's kind of what makes the game.
And that's what fans love to see.
It's just like in football when when guys score, they love to see the dancing
and teams come together, the good camaraderie of teams and the fans enjoy watching that.
You know, they don't want to just see a boring game. They want to see the excitement that
comes with it. So I hope they don't eliminate or give technical fouls for all the excessiveness.
Some of it is kind of warranted, but man, I ain't gonna lie, Ocho, some of this stuff
you're kind of getting out of hand, man.
I watch a lot of AAU basketball.
I got an AAU program myself.
And man, these kids, soon as they hit one shot,
they shooting at your head.
They be talking about, they spraying something.
Hey. Hey.
Hey. Hey.
They spraying the whole building down, Ocho.
Hey, hey, man, listen, they shoot up the whole gym.
So, I love to see the fire in them and the competitive nature
that comes with it. But some of the antics, yeah, they start fights, bro.
They start fighting. They OK. OK. Yeah.
Oh, Joe, what do the younger people see?
Because think about it.
All these kids not do all they do now is shoot threes.
They saw staff three, three, seven years old. They launched it. Yeah. because think about it all these kids not do all they do now is shoot threes they saw step
guys three seven years old they launching it yeah the same thing with the nfl whatever they see
them nfl they see the gritty they see hey oh you remember they outlawed the throat slash you had
kids in high school young kids throw slashing so this is the same thing these kids they want to
emulate that they want to be that and so the n the NFL and the sports league said nah we don't we you know we're
trying to set that precedent we want you to have fun and I get it to a certain
a certain extent but sometimes I think the players do go overboard I think they
got a responsibility because these young kids look up to them.
You you you you selling shoes you selling merch you selling things
you say hey I want you to I want you to support me.
I want you to be blah, blah, blah.
But then when we do that, ah, nah, don't do that.
Nah, them kids be brought all the way in.
Everything you do, everything you wear,
how you talk, what you do, they follow that.
Yeah, and Jax polarizing, man.
He ultimately could have been,
or could be the poster boy at the NBA and kids gravitate toward that. Like,
I'm saying shoes, his clothes, how he wears hair. Like, man, I
see these kids now with their dress back up in a little
ponytail, John Blake. Man, listen, these people, they
think they jive here. And because he, the reason why they
like Steph, because you see Steph, like damn,
Steph like a regular man, Steph 6'2".
I can beat Steph, John 6'2".
I can't beat Lebron, man, I ain't finna beat no 6'9",
I ain't finna beat no Shaq, I ain't finna beat no Yokich,
but I can beat John, I can really grow up to be 6'2",
I can beat Steph Curry.
So that's why a lot of time,
people gravitate towards the smaller guys, because they see2". I can be Steph Curry. So that's why a lot of time people gravitate
towards the smaller guys
because they see themselves, I can be that.
That's why Jordan and Kobe,
the smaller guys, they seem to resonate.
Ain't nobody said, man, I wanna be Shaq.
I wanna be Jokic.
I wanna be Kareem.
Why you think nobody throw the sky hook?
The most unstoppable shot that's ever been created
and ain't nobody basically threw it since he threw it.
Hey, hey, hey. Hey, you got all these trainers out here
taking these kids through drills or nobody teaching them how to shoot
no sky hook man over their left shoulder.
Hey, they ain't teaching that.
They teaching that that twing twing side step.
Ha ha. Catch that. Yeah.
Hey, that's what it is.
Yeah. Hey, Uncle Joe, I think I like it.
I understand exactly where y'all coming from.
But when you got players like Anthony Edwards,
players like Ja Morant, I mean,
Steph is a little different just the way he carries himself.
When you look at the individual's background
and the image that they try to portray,
there's a reason why they're special
when they play the game of basketball.
There's a certain way that they carry themselves.
There's a certain group that they try to emulate
or a certain cache and way that they carry themselves.
And they wanna keep that same,
that same, that or when they play the game,
play the game of basketball.
And all I was saying is there's some things
you can eliminate that they do in game.
I just don't wanna take too much away from them
that makes them who they are.
There's a certain it factor with Anthony Edwards
and the Jameran that makes them who they are.
And I think if you take too much
and try to tone them down too much,
it takes away from their game in general
and what they bring.
I agree.
And it's gonna kind of dull it down a little bit
and make it less watchable.
I mean, they say the game,
they say the basketball game has been struggling,
but you know, our stars have been performing.
We just got to keep them on the floor.
And you remember, think about it.
Well, who did the kids love?
The guy that had a big,
it's hard to say somebody had a bigger impact
than Allen Iverson.
Allen Iverson was the first one to start wearing
the sleeve all the way up. Not damn near everybody wore the sleeve. Allen Iverson. Allen Iverson was the first one to start wearing the sleeve all the way up.
Not damn near everybody wore the sleeve.
Allen Iverson, you couldn't go to the store
and buy a 5X t-shirt, cause he had them bought them all.
He the one that buy the jeans,
and you couldn't find no 40 jeans,
cause he had them on his ass.
He was the one that changed the dress code because of him.
Because he was coming.
Oh man, hey look, you ain't lying, you ain't lying.
Hey, I had knew a few of them tall T's too,
but boy look, I remember when the league
changed the dress code, man look,
we used to come to the plane and sweats,
flip flops, shorts, man it took all of that away.
You had to come in there suited and booted.
I was like, oh my God.
Hey, guys showed up, hey Joe,
you remember that cable dude that come with durags?
They had a durag on the tall tee.
I'm like, David Stern, all these corporate sponsors,
all this money we spending,
y'all finna clean this issue up.
Right, Stern one going, he got everybody right.
I saw Tim Duncan come pick his MVP trophy up
with flip flops and shorts on.
Hey, I remember those days, bro.
I remember those days.
Those were good times, man.
Hey, he kinda went, he kinda got back to that.
Yeah, all the guys were not coming.
They used to, there was a time that, you know,
soot, soot, soot, but you know,
you see guys still coming with some sweat.
Ant-Man, Ant-Man said, look here,
I ain't spending no money on it.
Hey, I get all this free gear or I'ma wear it.
Yeah, I'ma wear it, you do it.
After the game, John called Keo Ware,
a pigeon on national television.
Taylor Rooks asked John,
tell me everything about that last possession.
John say, a pigeon was guarding me,
go get a bucket and win the game.
Hey, John, John got a chill, now.
Kale'el, that's my guy, he's from the crib,
he's from Le'Ry.
Hey, don't act like that, don't act like that.
Don't act like that.
Hey, it was a great shot, Kale'el played great defense,
it was a great shot, he made a tough shot, man,
getting the crib.
But I tell you what, I'm gonna tell you
what I think
happened in that game, the little guard was pestin' him
and impressing him so much, the little Donovan kid,
it kinda turned Jaune to the point where he was trying
to make a point, and he kinda turned around
and kinda got it going, you know what I mean?
He definitely got it going in the second half.
He got it going in the second half. Yeah, he turned up. Yeah, cause he said they was bored of him and he kinda got to go into the second half. He got to go in the second half. And because he said they were bored of him
and he kind of got to him,
because I think he had like 27 points in the second half.
And obviously he hit the game winner.
So that was exciting.
The Bucks are coming up with a win against Tuesday
in which they shot 69% from the field,
which was the highest in an NBA game since 1998.
And the 58, almost 59 percent from the
three-point range is there anybody honestly Joe is there anybody really as
well as Yonis has played Cleveland's been the best team in the East record
wise but is there anybody in the East that can challenge Boston
No, no, but I'll tell you what, to start the season, I had the Bucks making some noise, man.
I know it's been unfortunate, you know, with Dane going out, you know, with calf injury,
the blood clot thing.
And man, we can't expect these type of numbers from Yanis every night, man.
Right, right. Man, he played't expect these type of numbers from Yannis every night, man. Right, right.
Man, he played out his mind tonight.
And them other guys around him stepped up.
They had to step up and make plays.
Man, I mean, since he had.
20.
Mm-hmm.
Oh, man.
And here, he did everything.
And you know, in the postseason,
they don't let you get up and down.
And Yannis is like, he likes to get up and down.
He sees a crack.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yannis like a roach.
He see a crack. He gonna slide through it now yawning like a roach, he see a crack,
he gonna slide through it now and get away from you
so you can't split it.
Every time.
Hey, in the playoffs, boxers, nail bowls, baby,
you gonna have to pass that thing.
Them boys gonna make, if them boys gonna make
eight, nine threes together, okay, we gonna live with that.
But you think you finna get to this rim
and have a dunk fest all night?
We are not going.
Because you know when somebody has 20 assists,
there are a lot of shots being made.
Man. A lot of shots being made.
Yeah, and I think everybody chipped in tonight.
They had a bunch of guys in double figures
who made quite a few threes.
So obviously, Yon has had it going.
If he had 35 points, 20 assists.
And how many rebounds?
He probably had about 18, 19? 17 rebounds.
Man, them two, hey, hey, Ocho, them two K numbers right there, baby.
Yeah, it is.
Hey, matter of fact, I'm gonna go back to something
you just said earlier, right, real quick,
and it just dawned on me.
You said out east, there's no threat for the Celtics at all.
Well, if there's no threat for the Celtics,
basically you're saying they're going back to NBA finals.
Basically.
Yeah. Okay, well, if they're going back to NBA finals. Basically. Yeah.
Okay, well, if they're going back to the NBA finals, who do
you see them facing out the West? And do they even have a
threat out the West? Let alone forget the East?
Yeah, yeah, they got a threat out in the West partner. Yeah,
they got a threat. I'm who that I like I like okay, see, bro. I
like okay, see. Not only because they got Shay, but because all them other dudes around them,
they know their role and they defend, man.
They defend.
They sit down, they sit in their chair and play defense, outro, and then in the playoffs,
that's what it's going to come down to.
And what?
They the youngest team in the NBA.
24 years.
Yeah, they are.
They are.
Man, they finna, hey, they going to be getting up and down all night.
Shay going to average probably 42 minutes a game in the playoffs.
Right.
Out of a 48 minute ball game, he probably barely gonna sit down.
They ain't gonna do nothing.
Unless, unless, unless they, unless they blowing them out and, you know, you try to blow somebody,
you know, try to get some rest like that.
But other than that, yeah, your best players play.
The MVP race is coming down to the wire.
SGA is on pace to win his first scoring title right now.
He's at 32.9 points a game.
The Thunder record 64 and 12.
They have an outside chance to become the third team
to win 70 games in a season.
OK needs to win out to join the 95-96 Bulls
and the 2015-16 Warriors as the only teams in NBA history
to win 70 or more games in the regular season.
Meanwhile, Nikola Lokic, Yokich, they just call him Yoke,
is attempting to make history, becoming the third player,
yeah, the third player to win four MVPs
in a five-year span.
Jordan LeBron, 2008 to 2012, he won four,
Bill Russell, 61 through 65.
Unfortunately, Yoke is not gonna win the MVP,
just like the first guy to average a triple double,
Oscar Robinson, didn't win the MVP in that 61-62 season.
Yoke is just averaging 29.7 points a game,
12.8 rebounds a game, 10.2 assists a game,
and he's shooting 50, what, 54% from the field
and 42% from the three.
And unfortunately, Joe, he's not going to MVP.
Man, that dude is balling out of control.
But I'm gonna be honest with you,
I love watching him play.
I love how he plays at his own pace
and he make guys around him better too.
He's a willing passer, which makes him harder to guard
because you know, if you double team, he gonna give it right up and them dudes making shots around him better too. He's a willing passer, which makes him harder to guard because you know, if you double team,
he gonna give it right up
and them dudes making shots around him.
But to be honest, my pick will be Shea too.
I enjoy watching Shea.
I love his poise and patience, you know,
throughout the game.
And like I say, defensively,
he's always gonna be tops and steals.
He sits down and play defense as well.
So I love both players, man,
but if I had a vote, mine would probably be shared.
You know what's gonna happen?
It's gonna be the same situation.
Like we go back, Joe and I, being a student of the game,
you go back and look at that 61-62 season.
Bill Russell won the MVP,
but that was the year that Wilt averaged 50 and 25.
That was the first year Oscar had a 30 point triple double.
Jared West averaged 30.
Elgin Baylor was 30 and 18.
You go back and look at, that was the greatest,
statistically, that was the greatest offensive season
on record.
Go back and look at those guys and look at the numbers.
You're like, hold on.
And when you hear like, we'll average,
hold on, how much did he average? Or we'll average 50 and 25. No MVP.
Oscar 30 points.
Hold on. 50 and 25.
And he didn't win the MVP. Bill Russell won the MVP that season.
But Jerry West was like 36 and eight. Who else?
Who? Elgin Baylor.
Elgin Baylor average,
Elgin Baylor average like 27 and 18.
Walt Bellamy.
I mean, the numbers were crazy.
You go look at the top five, the top six guys
in the MVP race and probably any other year, they win it.
But Russell won it that year.
And I think we're gonna go back 25, 30 years from now,
they're gonna pull up Nicola Jokic's numbers
and they're gonna say, ain't no way,
if he didn't win the MVP, who did?
Right, right.
Because that's the conversation we're having now.
Like you said, hold on, we'll average 50 and 25
and then win the MVP?
No.
Boston, Bill Rustin, they must have been putting
Bill up their ass.
They did, they won eight great titles,
so yeah, they told everybody they were tearing everybody up.
We'll say, y'all will flare with me,
Diddy came back and averaged 44 and 27 the next year. Just to let y'all were playing with me, then he came back at average 44 and 27 the next year.
Just to let y'all know it wasn't a fluke.
Ocho.
Joe, I remember, we talked about this a couple years,
last year, Ocho, is that Mello was feeling some type of way,
he'd say because they gave the 15 to Yocage.
And I said, Joe, bro, they took this man
in the second round and when he got drafted,
they were doing a Taco Bell commercial.
They had no idea he was gonna turn out to be this
because if they had, they'd have took his ass
in the first round.
You don't run the risk of, this was a transcendent player
and taking him in the second round
if you think you're gonna do anything, but
Unfortunately, they're not gonna remember Carmelo Ward at 15 that number belongs to Nicole Yolkic
I
Mean it shouldn't be as great as Nicole is playing right now. Hold on
I don't you not erasing with Carmelo data negative that man got three MVPs in the finals MVP. I tell you what Joe
Who are 34 who were 34 in Milwaukee before Yannis?
Ray Allen.
Do you remember Ray Allen in 34?
Oh Joe, exactly, exactly.
Okay.
Hey, hey, hey, hey, he was a bad boy with that 34.
He was, yes, Gordon off, yes, yes.
But you look at what Yannis is doing. Right. He was. Yes, Gordon off. Yes, yes. But you look at what Yonis is doing.
Right.
Oh yeah.
And.
Yeah, he done erased that.
Hey, that's what I don't like about us sometimes.
Sometimes we become a prisoner of the moment
and we forget what those before us actually did, you know?
And listen, I understand.
I love what Joker's doing.
I love it.
But we talk about the other 15.
We talk about that, we talk about Mr. Midrange. Oh, ohcho, I don't think you realize what this man is doing.
Joe, you played 18, 19 years.
You know, I studied the game.
I've been following this game since 77, 78.
And I know a lot of the history, what Yokelch is doing.
I'm sorry, Ocho.
Yeah.
I'm sorry.
Hey, so do y'all think the big man gonna ever come back?
No.
Yeah, if he can, no, you talking about the big, no.
He gotta be able to shoot the three?
He gotta be like a Yoke-It.
You gotta be one of those big.
You talking about the big that just run his ass down
to the block and play with his back to the basket.
Oh, hell no.
Yeah, and call for the ball.
That's over.
The game has changed. That's over, Joe. Hey, but I'm saying, you know, once no. Yeah, call for the ball. That's over. The game has changed.
That's over, Joe.
Hey, but I'm saying, once in a while,
every era we get a guy who come in,
he built a little different from everybody else.
I think if you can dominate,
be the size of a seven footer
who just unguardable down there,
it'll come back, but now they don't try
to take that anymore. Like don't train for it no more.
Like don't those guys work on their post game for real?
They all doing pick and pops,
shooting threes from different spots.
So the game is totally different.
They don't even raise them like that no more.
And think about it, look at Zach Eady.
Man, you saw Zach Eady training.
He's shooting three, he's seven four.
Look at Wimby.
Wimby's seven four and a half.
He's seven five with shoes.
And he ain't playing with his back to the basket. It's over, Joe. It's over.
If you got a guy 7'5 and he ain't playing with his back to the basket...
Hey, the game has changed. I like Wimby, though. I like Wimby. He's a freak of nature.
I'm Camila Ramon, Peloton's first Spanish speaking cycling and tread instructor. I'm an athlete, entrepreneur, and
almost most importantly, a perreo enthusiast.
And I'm Liz Ortiz, former pro soccer player and Olympian and

it? Our podcast, Hasta Abajo is where sports, music and fitness
collide. And we cover it all. De arriba hasta abajo.
Sit down with real game changers in the sports world,
like Miami Dolphins CMO Priscilla Shumate,
who is redefining what it means to be a Latina leader.
It all changed when I had this guy come to me.
He said to me, you know, you're not Latina.
First of all, what is that move?
My mouth is wide open.
Yeah.
History makers like the Sukar family,
who became the first Peruvians to win a Grammy.
It was a very special moment for us.
It's been 15 years for me in this career.
Finally, things are starting to shift into a different level.

the always quotable Nate Thompson.
I wore nine NHL sweaters,
and I have story after story to share.

and not just about hockey.
Believe me, he does.
Energy Line with Nate and JSB is the name of the podcast
and it's gonna be, well, it's gonna be quite the ride.
We're officially line mates, Nate.
We're the Energy Line.
We'll have plenty of folks join us,
current players, some of my former teammates,
Hall of Famers, and wait to see some of the connections
that Julie has. She has quite the Rolodex.
Okay, we'll lean into Nate's playing experience and tap into our interests away from hockey
and try to do what Energy Lines are supposed to do, provide an emotional boost. How do
you feel about all that, Nate?
I'm vibing, Julie. I'm ready to roll.

My name is Brendan Patrick Hughes, host of Divine Intervention.
This is a story about radical nuns in combat boots and wild haired priests trading blows
with J. Edgar Hoover in a hell bent effort to sabotage a war.
J. Edgarva was furious somebody violated the FBI
and he wanted to bring the Catholic left to its knees.
The FBI went around to all their neighbors
and said to them,
do you think these people are good Americans?
It's got heists, tragedy, a trial of the century,
and the God-damnedest love story you've ever heard.
I picked up the phone and my thought was, this is the most important phone call I'll
ever make in my life.
I couldn't believe it.
I mean, Brendan, it was divine intervention.

Go ahead, go ahead, by Lou. Both his girlfriends sat next to each other. Yes, sir. During the game.
Oh, yeah, that's live.
That's live.
You're doing that, you sitting two together?
Who, oh, I mean, I would, I would, you know, I would.
I mean, if I was in my day, you know,
and if I was still playing like that, you know, I would.
All it is is conversation and being honest
and telling the truth, because when you're bringing
in that kind of money as an NBA player player you know you you will have those that
will play like that and have a great understanding. Now being that I'm over the hill now you know
and I'm I'm I'm working and I'm in an instruction environment you know I can't I can't move
like that no more. But as I see fit during that time would I be able to do it? Absolutely. Would I have two women that would be willing to do it?
Absolutely.
You know, and then you add, you factor in the NBA revenue
and salary that you're bringing in.
How many women would decline that?
Not very many.
And he ain't just have, just know anybody
sitting next to each other, huh?
These ain't just no Scrags now.
Yeah, but we talk about it.
We talk about eight. Yeah, we talk about tens.
Yeah.
Which mean?
Yes, would you do it?
Would you do it?
Can you pull it off?
No, I can't pull it off.
No.
I know I know been that.
That bold.
No. I know I've never been no Fabio Lozario.
I've never been one of those guys that could do that.
Wait, hold on. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Time out, time out.
Now, you done played the field for a long time.
I don't mean to get in your personal business.
Now, if you can have two women
sit courtside. Now I understand you wouldn't do it publicly. So I don't mean to be in personal
business. Yes, I'm nosy. So you ain't never had two women before in general or you just, or you
you got to be locked in with one? I mean, Ocho to have like,
talk to me. Have I had two women come to a game? Yeah, but I wasn't dating nobody.
Ah, okay.
I see, I see you going with it.
I like that.
Did they sit together?
Hell nah.
Okay, okay, so you hadn't.
So you hadn't.
Yeah, I wasn't, you know, there wasn't no situation.
I didn't want no, I didn't want no, you know,
and I was like, you know what, just my luck.
Somebody bump into somebody, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I was like, you know what, just my luck, somebody bump into somebody.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So I'm like, nah, I'm done with this.
See, you got to be able to talk to them and have a great understanding because if you
tell the truth from the beginning and give them my option, whether to stay or go, nine
times out of 10, they're going to stay anyway and be accepting of the fact that you told
the truth.
I'm just telling you.
I ain't telling you what I heard.
I'm telling you what I know. I believe you, I believe. I believe you. Oh, I believe you. But uh yeah. I ain't that ain't me
no more. Yeah. Now you know I'm. Yeah. What game I would take them to what I ain't playing.
Oh you talking about now. Yeah. I'm saying we're working out where can I take them that we're
going to go and go right now. Let me let me tell you something. We have a tour that starts in what?
June, right?
You can have two right there to show in the front row. What you talking about tickets cost too much
Who calls too much?
If I'm about about if my mama gonna be at the show. Yeah.
Okay, okay. Mama coming for real?
No.
Oh.
I ain't let my mama come at it.
Hey, I am, I'm excited.
Hey, can you give me one guess?
Can you tell me one guess?
No?
Not yet.
No, I can, no, I'm not bringing my mom.
Plus it's gonna be too late.
My mom be in the bed asleep.
My mama, my mama, mama, mama eight, my mama 82. be too late. My mom be in the bed sleep.
Oh, mama, mama, mama, mama 82.
OK, OK. And matter of fact, and this is for people, people, if you're watching this, people in chat, when you will be coming to certain cities, certain cities,
especially my city where I'm from, you know, don't ask, don't ask your boyfriend
no tickets. If you love me, if you love me, like you say you do, and you value me
and our friendship,
I need you to support us.
Don't ask me to get you no tickets.
Support us.
Please purchase tickets and support us.
I'm backed up on child support.
So anything you give, help your boy out.
That's how we use it.
Yeah, you know, I appreciate that. You know, Ojo, when I first started the Cognac, I mean, you know, he helped you boy. Yeah, you know, uh,
I appreciate that. You know, when I first started the cognac, I mean, Rod Smith,
My brother still buy it to this day. My brother go to the store. I don't say my brother know no cognac
He goes to the store. All right, Rod Smith. Yeah, man, Rod Smith
He was the first one. I think Rod probably purchased like 10 bottles
Yeah. Yeah. I mean most of my homeboys they they support me. Bucket, obviously I gifted everybody a bottle,
but from that point on, they go buy it.
Yeah.
But man, tell Sharp to send me a bottle note.
Mm-mm.
I need my people, I'm telling you ahead of time.
My people in Philly, my people in Chicago,
my people in New York, my people in Detroit,
my people in North Carolina, especially
my people in Miami. Please, I beg of you, don't text me, don't ask me, boy get your boy some tickets,
I know I'm your dog. If I'm your dog, support your boy. Because if you have something going on,
you know I'm gonna support you. Yeah, for sure. Give me that same grace and that love you always
talk about having for me when I see you and we dap each other up and we hug.
I mean, Ocho, I mean, every home game, they play 41 games at home and
basketball, them tickets ain't cheap.
Yeah.
Nah, I remember when I play, I think-
Oh no, they get, they, wait a minute.
They get too calm.
I think, yeah, they get too calm now.
You're right.
You're right.
Ocho.
You're right.
They get too calm.
Yeah.
They go too calm. Right. Now, you know where. They get too calm. Yeah. They go too calm.
Right.
Now, you know where they sitting.
I don't know where them calm seats are.
Well, you ain't got no poor sign calm seats.
Oh, absolutely not.
You finna pay for that.
Yeah.
And then the thing-
I think they, it's family section though.
You talking about the family section.
And see, that's the thing.
You have one by somebody that is weak.
Well, who you with?
Oh, I'm here.
Why Shannon?
You have somebody who happens to Jenna.
And then it, and then when you come out, when you come out the locker room, everybody looking
at you like, mind your business.
You married.
I ain't.
Right.
I have 15 up there if I wanted to, but now I keep you.
Like I said, for the most part part my family, you know, yeah
Hey, I didn't have my first like
Girlfriend in college she didn't come up to one game and then I really didn't have no I mean I would just like
Get the tickets away because I didn't have I didn't have anybody
Right. Hey, can I I just got it?
I'm I'm just I'm starting to think now and things are. Right. Hey, can I, I just got to, I'm just,
I'm starting to think now,
and things are starting to come to me,
as I think about just the scenario
and having two women at a game.
And, you know, with your experience and people in the chat
that have been in relationships, just in general.
I ain't been with no damn two women at once.
Oh, you haven't?
Hell no.
I wouldn't even chance it now. You couldn't pay me enough. I'm not. Oh, you have. Hell
Have I have I have I had women to ask? No, baby. I ain't with it. You said no. Yeah. Yeah, I
Said hell no
What can you wait a man you would why I told um, do you know
You never had one mess with you up north, another one mess with you down south?
It's me and her.
That's it.
That's all I got for you.
Listen, I'm just telling you,
I'm telling you this back in my day,
this is back in college days.
I ain't done none of this, none of this,
I'm too old for all that, man.
But I was trying to get back to the point about Lou Will
and having two women at a game
and understanding how smooth and how much
patience he has to have as a man.
Fellas, this is for you in the chat as well.
You know how difficult it is dealing with one woman.
Oh, Joe.
Hey, honey, what you want to eat?
I ain't got, oh, Joe.
Ask him what you want to eat.
Two?
All you do is cut the time in half.
I ain't got before, I ain't got before good minutes.
Two, you daddy just out of two.
Now you mad.
Now the group chat you was talking about on your,
I'm in there.
So that's all I got for you.
You got two minutes a piece for each, huh?
I got two, hey, somebody gonna be disappointed.
Somebody gonna be mad and say, oh, this ain't nothing. You right, you right. That John. I got to a somebody gonna be disappointed. Somebody gonna be bad. Oh, this ain't nothing. You're right.
You're right. That's all I got. So
but that ain't that ain't that ain't really never interest me
being with two women. It ain't it ain't that it that ain't my
thing. Like I said, I've had people like oh, and a no, I don't
I'm good. I don't want any of, and a no, I don't I'm good.
I don't want any of I don't
want any of that. I'm tell
you, at this juncture, it's a
lawsuit. Leave it alone. Oh,
yeah. No part of that's why
that's why I spoke in in past
Yeah, in past. Yeah. I mean,
I don't know nothing.
Remember, I told you, I got
spade. Yeah, I got two of the
possible with two. I got
double the possible. Right? Double possible. I got Spadewood, I got two of the possible. With two, I ain't got double the possible.
I ain't got double the possible.
I ain't even got a two.
It's a possible.
I got the ace of diamond,
but I got seven other diamonds in my hand.
Right, I got you, I got you.
Well, wait a minute.
Now, wait a minute.
Never say never.
I'm never.
I don't, that don't interest me, Ocho.
Let me finish.
Let me finish, man.
Me, you, and Prime, we still got a trip to the DR.
Now, you never, you can't never say never.
Never.
No.
OK.
OK.
OK.
We're leaving it up to you.
For me, I mean, look.
I might be the central figure in my family.
Say talk to me.
But I'm the least important.
If you can understand that.
Yeah.
Mom, my sister, my brother, my kids, everything.
Everything.
Everything.
So for me, whatever, whatever,
escapade or experience that I haven't gotten.
Right. You ain't getting that. I'm good.
Yes, sir. Listen, I'm with you when you're right.
I'm with you when you're right.
But I'm going to tell you one thing.
It's a roller coaster, boy. You hear me?
It's a roller coaster.
Yes, it is. I never forget.
First time in 1996.
Had three of them. Oh, no. Yes, it is. I never forget first time 1996
Had three of them. Oh, no
Hey, I had three of them had me chained to the bed. I'm gonna tell you where I was at. Change
Yeah, yeah chain. Well, I don't play listen to me. I'm gonna tell you a story. I ain't told a story I ain't told nobody except my homeboys out there in Miami
1996 I skipped school.
They picked me up, took me to the Executive Palace
in Okeechobee.
If you're in the Chattie for Miami,
you know about the Executive Palace.
They had me chained to the bed.
I ain't, I bondage, you know?
Unbelievable experience.
I don't wanna get too in-depth with it.
I don't wanna accept, I don't wanna upset, you know, unbelievable experience. I don't want to get too in depth with it. I don't want to accept. I don't want to upset, you know, you know, my people, you know, my baby, you know.
Yeah, I know. I know she I know she watch it.
I don't want to, you know, but hey, it's a roller coaster.
Boy, you hear me?
Good. It's an experience like no other.
I don't got it.
I don't got the stomach no more for one roller coasters.
You know, I'm good on Joe. You know, I say, hey, let me get on these sparks. I don't got the stomach no more for one roller coasters
You know I'm saying hey, let me get on these sparks listen, hey, let's somebody get to the possible
No, no, it ain't gonna be no turn the possible if you add the sparks to the AVR add the sparks to it Hey, you finna go I already know I got two cuz I got I got both the jokers. I won't give you two
I got both, because I got both the jokers. I won't give you two. I got both jokers.
Big joker and little joker.
The one on the bicycle and the one that's not on the bicycle.
If you play cards, you know what I'm talking about,
the bicycle card.
I got the big joker, little joker.
Yes, sir.
Now, I want y'all to know, I got a king of another suit.
It's not a spade.
Right.
I can't be certain that it's gonna walk.
Cuz somebody might somebody might throw it off and cut it
Ocho. So that's all I got for you. So you come in there to
my no don't me. I got you too. With the sparse I got a
possible but I'm just saying it might get cut. That's all. I got you. Hey, that's funny, man. I'm just saying it might get
cut. I got you. Hey, that's
funny, man. I'm just saying
that's funny. No, I could not.
I could. Hey, and I'm just
reminiscing on them days, man.
Back then, man, you know, you
know, when you're younger, you
just just you've done some
things that you just don't
understand how you're able to
do. And especially when you think about it, the age we're at now,
I couldn't I couldn't pull it off.
I don't have the energy.
No, I don't have the attention span to be able to to make sure no one is left out.
Yeah. You know, I was back in them days, you know, but when my younger
day, I was like an octopus. Yeah.
Yeah. And I make sure I don't leave anybody out.
I make sure everybody is in tune and I'm sharp and detailed
in all that I'm doing that everyone feels like they're apart.
I mean, unison, it's all about becoming one.
Okay, I ain't gonna even hold you.
I can't do it.
I ain't got it.
I know, I know, I feel you, I feel you, I feel you.
But I was different, you know?
I know you was here when you was well.
I was here when I was hey, I was here. Hey, that that
one call him. Yeah, that one.
That one. I put a, I worked the
double on him. I did a double
on him. I did a double. I did a
double now. No shame. Like
Michael Jackson say from sundown
to midnight, you got me working
day and
night. Yeah. Yeah-E. Yeah, yeah, they still got them. Yeah, La Quinta and yeah, especially when you on the road.
Hey, hey, hey, oh bro, you know,
bro, look, I had a little paper back then,
you know, a little, little 30 to 35 centi dollars,
get you two nights, little tax, ain't it all, two nights?
I go by that thing, get in that room,
I turn that AC on,
cause I'm a, I might be giving it too much,
I'm a sweater, I sweat. Yeah. The room I might be giving it too much, I'm a sweater.
I sweat.
Yeah.
The room gotta be icy cold.
It's embarrassing.
It's embarrassing cause you know,
I'm just like, man, she ain't gonna never
wanna see me no more.
Hey, I'm in that thing like a Baptist minister.
Damn, heavenly father!
Oh, man!
Boy, I did something, woo!
Yeah, yeah, man, back in the did something. Yeah, yeah. Back in the day.
Hey, when they say O'Shea was
hell, Woody was hell. Yeah.
I was way. Hey, boy, I got boy.
Boy, I got some, man, listen.
Man, the stories, man.
Sometimes I like it. And then, Ocho, I like the same room too.
Cause I feel, if it's something about that room,
and especially if I get a four ball or a five ball,
you know what I'm saying, Ocho?
I think the room, it was the room.
Hey, let me get that room.
Let me get that same room.
Is the room I Hey, let me get that room. Let me get that same. Is the room available?
They said, Mr. Sharp, it won't be available till tomorrow.
I said, well, I'll come back tomorrow, but let me get it.
I'll be back tomorrow.
Let me get it.
There was something about that bed.
I don't know what it was, but boy.
But can't do it all alone.
Oh, it got to tell you what I have thought about.
I said, now what about old Shay at 18, 19, 20 on the Sparks?
Nah, don't do that.
Oh, Jesus.
Don't do that.
Don't do that.
Hey, I had to put somebody's legs back together.
Hey, I had to put somebody's legs back together.
Hey, 18, 19, 20 on the sparks?
Yeah.
Matter of fact, the body is already producing its own spark in general, especially at the day.
Can you imagine, Ocho?
Can you add something to that?
Man, please.
Can you add something to that? Man, please.
Boy them some days, boy.
I sure hope you were at the Bible study that week.
Boy them some days, boy.
What a time, what a time.
Joel Embiid would undergo orthoscopic surgery on his left knee next week.
Embiid ruled out the further season in late February as the Sixers met with doctors to determine the best time to be a time. Joel Embiid would undergo orthoscopic surgery on his left knee next week.
Embiid ruled out the further season in late February
as the Sixers met with doctors to determine
the best treatment to alleviate the knee issues
was surgery.
Ocho, here's a wild stat.
The game's played since the start of the 2014-15 season.
The year Joel Embiid entered the draft,
Carmelo Anthony, 12th year. Carmelo Anthony
has played what? More games, is this why I'm reading this correctly Ash? More games than
Joel Embiid? And Mello has been retired for three years. And he's still played more games
than Joel Embiid. Is that correct? 470 to 452.
Shams is reporting that Carmelo got the call that he's going to the basketball hall of fame.
I thought basketball was five years,
but I guess they reduced it to three years
or you're a great player.
Like, who was that?
Wayne Gretzky, he retired, they put him in the hall of fame.
Like, what the hell are we waiting for?
Like certain guys on show, like, why you wait?
Tom Brady, why you make Tom Brady wait?
Why you make Peyton Manning wait?
Why you make like a, yeah come on now.
What are they waiting for?
Yeah, there's no point.
Yeah.
There's no point.
We talk about, and we talk about players
that are Mount Rushmore at their position.
Well actually respective craft in general.
Yeah, I mean some things you just like,
I mean why would you make LeBron wait a minute?
Oh, Bron, you retired?
Okay, we got a ceremony next week.
Make sure y'all hear.
I mean, for real though, check up on what we doing.
And I don't think LeBron is one of those guys
that he's gonna come back, come back and, you know,
oh, I wanna play like Jordan Dead, you know, Magic.
Because it'd been really cool, had Magic,
because Magic came back and played.
And when Bird was gonna go in, Magic like,
I want to go in and David Stern would let that happen.
But that'd been really cool.
Cause I really think those two guys should have gone in.
If any two guys like Russell and Chamberlain,
Magic and Bird, some of those guys should just go in together.
They should go in together, they really should.
Ocho Aisha Howard has addressed the rumor
alleged Anthony Edwards requested to pay 18 years
of child support up front amid their court battle.
She said, where do these lies be coming from?
You ever heard a rumor about yourself and actually wanted to hear more like,
no way, what did I do next? There are no court documents, motions or proceedings that have
occurred nor have I been offered or agreed to such terms. Would it actually be smart
terms. Would it actually be smart just to pay the whole 18 years one payment of only 1.8 million? Yes. Yeah, I mean, this is, I wouldn't, it's tough, Ocho, it's tough. It's tough. It's tough
because it, and we're just, I'm just speculating. I don't know, I don't know Ant-Man like that.
Have I met him before?
Yes.
It's tough because he young,
it's reported that he didn't want the kid.
Now he forced to, you know, want to be with the kid.
So I just think the thing is, I would say this,
take some time, cool down.
Yeah, sir.
You're upset right now because you didn't want to be with
her, you were just having a good time.
Yes, sir.
And sometimes when you're late, you got to pay.
Yeah.
And that's the only advice I would give him.
I say, son, that child didn't have to come
Mm-hmm. It didn't it was too. It was too grown folks. I mean
You practice long enough you gonna get good at it
Mm-hmm. Yeah
You right? I mean listen, this is unfortunate circumstance, you know, I know, and very well,
good friend of mine, and the situation unfortunate. Now, we're all different in how we operate.
I got on I can only put myself in his shoes. Yes, if I was an addition. Now, you know, me, I didn't do things the traditional way. I didn't do things in traditional way. You know, there was
an understanding between those and I that I have kids from where I am extremely active
in all minds life and always have been.
That's something that I would be proud of
whether the individual and I weren't together.
Oh, you what?
Man, you bull driving.
Is mine?
Oh bet, let's go.
I got this and I'm starting to pre-play and everything ahead of time.
What we having, a girl, a boy.
When I think about gym, club, gymnastics and football,
that's how I operate because I'm the one
who enjoys having kids.
I enjoy it.
I'm active, I'm hands-on and all that I do,
especially when it comes to that.
But his situation is different.
Obviously he didn't want the child,
but obviously you do have to take responsibility. Yeah, and it's different now, Ocho,
because see the problem that I have now is that
they have this thing called internet.
And when something gets put on internet,
it's up there for perpetuity.
And to know that one day, and this could not be true,
but for a child to read that,
to say the father didn't want anything to do with it
or didn't want to be a part of his life, that's hurtful.
So that's-
Yeah, yeah.
He's also speaking from anger.
Of course.
Also speaking from anger about the situation
and her understanding that you know,
you know this is something that I don't want now.
And then, you know, the other flip side that is,
well, if you didn't want a child,
you shouldn't have, you shouldn't have.
You can't put raw meat on them.
Yeah. So I mean, listen, it's tough.
I mean that, I don't know.
I do.
Like I said, like I understand her side, you know, hey.
I think when Coolerhead prevail, it's, a I think when I think when cooler heads prevail
I don't do all right. I don't be all right. Yeah, and he he's going to be active father
regards to the reports that are coming out. I think he's great. I think it'll be straight and if
I um, I love let me I got let me take my glass off. I love kids. Love it. Love it. I love, let me take my glass off. I love kids.
Love it.
Love it.
I love being a father.
If I wouldn't mind having them all.
Yeah.
I wouldn't mind having them all.
Matter of fact, you know what?
I'm gonna have twins.
Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna have, yeah, that's what I'm finna have twins. Yeah, that's what I'm finna do.
I'm finna have, yeah, that's what I'm done.
The only twins I want is Range Rovers or Bentley's.
Matter of fact, I'm gonna get two of them too.
Guess what I'm getting with?
That $5,200 I owe you.
Yeah, man, I don't know what you gonna pay me by money, man.
Hold on, hold on. Hey, I'm finna have twins. So you want my kids to starve?
Do you want my kids to starve? You want the 5200 or you want me to be able to provide for my kids?
What about my kids? My kids starving.
They grown. They can work.

Sit downs with real game changers in the sports world,
like Miami Dolphins CMO Priscilla Shoemate,
who is redefining what it means to be a Latina leader.
It all changed when I had this guy come to me.
He said to me, you know, you're not Latina.
First of all, what is that?
My mouth is wide open.
Yeah.
History makers like the Sucar family who became the first Peruvians to win a Grammy.
It was a very special moment for us.
It's been 15 years for me in this career.

Believe me, he does.
Energy Line with Nate and JSB is the name of the podcast and it's going to be, well,
it's going to be quite the ride.
We're officially line mates, Nate.
We're the Energy Line.
We'll have plenty of folks join us, current players, some of my former teammates, Hall
of Famers, and wait to see some of the connections that Julie has.
She has quite the Rolodex.
Okay.
We'll lean into Nate's playing experience and tap into our interests away from hockey
and try to do what Energy Lines are supposed to do, provide an emotional boost.
How do you feel about all that, Nate?
I'm vibing, Julie.
I'm ready to roll.

Lady Bruins, Kiki Rice.
Kiki, how you doing?
I'm doing great.
We're doing amazing.
Well, congratulations.
Has it really sunk in yet?
Like, hold on.
We're part of the first group of young women that's ever gone to the Final Four at UCLA.
That is a very, very huge accomplishment.
Yeah, I mean, after the buzzer went off and That is a very, very huge accomplishment.
Yeah, I mean, after the buzzer went off and we were all celebrating,
it was just so special
because like that's part of what I came here to do
and part of what my class came here to do.
So just so excited that we were able to, you know,
finally get to the final four
and kind of take that next step.
But you know, we got two more games.
So we're excited for that,
getting ready to head down there tomorrow.
You know, you think about, go ahead, Ocho.
Listen, I have one question, and I really like this.
And when you think about postseason stuff to do,
I saw something where you said you
want to become an NBA general manager after your playing
days are done.
Yeah.
What's the first move you'd make if you happen to be a GM?
I'm just curious.
Before we get into what you're doing right now in college, what would be the first move you make as a
GM in NBA?
First move? Well if I was the GM of the Mavs I would not have dressed like this.
My first move for sure.
I love it, I love it. I love it.
I love it.
Oh yeah.
Oh, you got it.
Okay.
Look at what you guys did.
You lose the USC twice.
You beat him in the Pac 10 championship.
Obviously, that was a huge compliment.
Did that guy give you the confidence or were you always confident that you had the type
of team that could advance to the final four and potentially win it all?
Yeah.
I mean, this whole season we were ranked number one
for most of the year, obviously the top team in the country,
but I do think, you know,
like losing to a team twice is hard.
And SC is obviously a great team, Juju's great,
and they have a lot of great players.
So, but to finally like to beat them
in our conference championship and to kind of get over that
hump, it definitely kind of, I think gave us some more
confidence just because we knew like, all right, like we finally kind of beat the that hump. It definitely kind of, I think, gave us some more confidence just because we knew, like, all right, like, we finally
kind of beat the one team that had beaten us this whole year.
And now we're just like kind of, you know, playing out the rest of the season.
But we were really confident at that point, for sure.
You look at you guys, you played LSU and that game was nip and tuck.
Very back and forth.
I mean, you guys get to a 10 point lead.
They will let down the two.
You race out to a eight point lead.
They will let down the three. You guys. And then all of a sudden you get a couple of big key
Rebounds and you kick it out to a hot cast and she makes a couple of threes even though Laura best said no don't shoot
Yeah, okay. What do you good job? Good job? So what are you thinking in that ballgame? You're like damn?
We're so close. We have a ten-point lead and we don't let them cut it all the way down to two
What's going through your mind as the game starts to get later in the ballgame, but the game starts to tighten up
Yeah, I think at one point I looked over at the scoreboard we were up like I had our biggest leader of like 13
It's in third quarter. I was like, alright, like we got this like wow and then when I tried to get close
They definitely get a little nervous and like can't let this slip away especially cuz like LSU
They were the team that knocked us out last year. So, like we needed that we needed that revenge.
We just wanted to get through the final four too and like obviously a lot on the line but
um like we worked we worked on special situations and just end game stuff so much in practice
this year that I really had a lot of confidence that we were gonna be able to find a way to
get it done. Um but it is like you know it was a little bit nervous at the end there
because they're a great team. Flage is a great player and so like,
it's never over till the buzzer sounds.
So I just had to finish it out.
Yeah, speaking of finishing things up,
with the Final Four approaching,
how is the UCLA team preparing to face the next challenge?
And if there were any lessons that you learned
from the LSU game, what are they?
To make sure you don't have to deal with
the next team coming in, whoever you do have to face.
Not, not the game not being as close.
They got Yukon up next in page buckets.
Yukon, yeah.
So the game doesn't be as close as it was this last time.
You actually close it out without having to be fearful,
you know, towards the end of the game.
Yeah, I mean, I do think like at this point of the year,
like we're prepared that every team that we're gonna play
is gonna be a great team. So like we know matchups are gonna be close, like the games like at this point of the year, like we're prepared that every team that we're going to play is going to be a great team.
So like we know matchups are going to be closed, like the games are going to be closed down
the line.
So we just got to be comfortable in those moments.
And I think like having played a few of those games will help us, you know, just because
we have that like post game experience.
But you know, we're, you know, we'll watch scout, watch film, kind of get ready.
I think we played UConn last year, actually.
So like having that experience
playing them and we played really well we beat them last year will be good for our confidence
for sure. Kiki who are some of the women that you watched growing up obviously being a fabulous
player that you are who are some of the women that you watch and says you know what that's I
kind of what kind of molded your game or kind of some of the women that inspired you to play basketball? Yeah, I mean, I grew up watching Skylar Diggins,
Arikay, Diana Taurasi,
and not only like in basketball, but like I loved watching like Serena Williams
and Alex Morgan, like other like, you know, really fantastic woman
in other sports, just kind of to see them be great at their craft.
And that really inspired me for sure.
Why UCLA?
I mean, obviously, UCLA is really not known as a women's basketball program.
You have UConn, you have the Lady Gamecocks, you have LSU, Tennessee, probably Notre Dame,
probably more known as women's college basketball.
What made you choose UCLA?
Yeah, exactly because I felt like UCLA is not, UCLA is not as known and like, obviously,
it was like, exactly. I wanted to, I didn't want to go to a program that had a bunch of
national championships that have been to the final four a bunch of times. Like I felt like
it makes it even more special to go to a place and help it become that level of that level
of program. So I think having that all come into like, um, you know, reality now just makes, makes it even more special.
I just swear today that Olivia miles, the Notre Dame player, she's projected to be number two,
but instead of ending the WNBA draft, she entered the transfer portal. Are you surprised by this?
I was really surprised by that one, honestly. Yeah, really surprised. I mean, look, she's
gonna be, would be probably the number two pick
and you're deciding to come back to college.
I mean, I think it speaks to like NIL
and what you can get in college
and how great the college experience is.
But like, I don't think that happens often.
Someone who's going to be a, for sure,
lottery pick decides to come back to college.
I mean, I don't know exactly what went into her decision,
but yeah, I was surprised. Yeah, it went into her decision, she's gonna make more money in college
than she would be a rookie in the WNBA. That's what we're determined to see.
If it make dollars, it makes sense. Exactly.
And speaking of the WNBA, if you could bill your starting five, any current NBA or WNBA players,
who are you picking? I'd say WNBA. Who is your starting five being?
Let's see. All right. I have Asia Wilson. At the five.
At the five. Caitlin Clark, one.
I'm putting a four at the five. Caitlin Clark one.
I'm putting Stewie at the four.
You got a roster so far.
Yeah.
Putting Nafisa at
I thought you might go with I thought you might take a butik. I thought you might take a Rike Nguboale, but okay, I like Chelsea because she's healthy now.
If you watched in the Unrival in the semifinal game,
whoo, that's the Chelsea I was expecting to see last year
when she came back, but you can tell the way she's playing
now versus the way she played.
And when she got back into the Olympics, that wasn't her.
This is her that we saw in the unrivaled,
leading her team to the first title in the unrivaled.
Yeah, she was tough in that.
Yeah, she was playing real well.
So let me ask you this.
You probably got approached by a lot of companies
wanting to do this at IL.
How do you determine who Kiki is gonna align with?
Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of it is like based on if I feel like we can build
like a long term partnership and just like how much money you all got,
like how organic it's not.
Now, yeah, God, it has to be good money.
But like, I think, you know, feeling like the brand or company is like,
you know, aligned with my values and everything. And like, obviously, you know, I don't want to But like, I think, you know, feeling like the brand or company is like, you know,
aligned with my values and everything. And like, obviously, you know, I don't want to be like,
associated with any anyone that's kind of like, you know, kind of bring harm to my brand and my
name and everything. And then, you know, a big part of it is money also. I mean, like,
got to do things that make sense. And things that I care about, too. I think like, that's when
I get like more into doing and it becomes more organic, because it's like, I care about too I think like that's when I get like more into doing and it becomes more organic because it's like I care about the the cause
Or whatever it is. You're the first you're the first NIA athlete to sign with Jordan brand. Do you understand?
I mean look, there's no there's not a knock on anybody else
Nike and Adidas and under armor or whatever the case may be
But you know the logo
That's where they go about the logo and you know the logo. That's where it goes by, the logo.
And you're the first, when you like,
have you really thought about having,
you like, man, look at these, ooh, look at these J's.
I got these ones, I got these levels, I got these fours.
I mean, what does that feel like?
What does that mean to you?
To me, it feels like a lot of,
a big shoe collection and a lot of a big shoe collection. I have.
It's great, though. I mean, yeah, one of the best parts of it is all the gear and
everything, for sure. But I do think like kind of being aligned with like a brand
like Jordan, like any, you know, any basketball player you grow up in, like you
idolize Michael Jordan, you know what he he did for the game and what he means to
all of us. So I think like for me to be the first athlete that Jordan chose to sign, like it
just like, it was kind of a surreal moment when it all happened and for it to be like
at such young age, you know what I mean? Like I signed my senior year of high school, like
going into college and everything. So it really just like kind of, it motivated me to continue
to work hard because it's like, all right, like I
have a lot a lot to live up to but also like a lot more coming
if I continue to put in the more thing on show before you one
more thing. Let me ask you this. Yeah, give me the five shoes
Jordan shoes. You don't have that you really really want.
I don't have honestly, I don't think I have any there's none
that I want that I don't have you got about damn
what's really going on kick it will shoot your boy I'm 13 I'm a 13 got you I got you Shannon
I'll be so you hey so I mean you know obviously the uh the the dunks and you know all the the
signature they don't have they don't make a whole lot of them did you get that did you get the
air did you get the uh the Dior Jordans or did you get the Virgil's? You ain't got those? You want to get those huh?
Yeah I'll ask for those for sure. Yeah I need those.
I don't blame you. Shoot for the stars. You land on the moon, you still got a great collection.
Exactly.
Listen, outside of basketball, I've learned some interesting things about you. For one, you like Marvel.
Yep.
You love to cook and you're scuba certified.
I'm scuba certified too.
Really? Okay.
No.
The first thing I have to ask,
what, I am scuba certified.
Don't worry about it.
Go ahead, go ahead, don't finish your question.
I just want to know,
where's, hold on, sorry, sorry about that.
Where's the coolest place you go on diving?
The coolest place I went diving was in Mozambique.
What? Yeah.
How was it?
It was that was the it was really cool.
The water there is so like so clear and pretty in the sea.
I think we saw it.
We saw a shark there, which is really cool.
All right.
And that was my next question.
Have there been any scares when you've been diving?
Because I got scared when I went when I went scuba diving because I ran into a whale shark by
accident and I obviously didn't didn't realize how big they were until they get right up on you.
Even though they're not hostile but just still. Yeah the shark though, yeah it was definitely,
it was not it wasn't that big. It was like a can't remember what kind of shark. It wasn't that, but it was definitely scary. I mean like it's not not cool to come up on a shark when you're diving
Yeah
Just the idea of it, but I haven't had any any crazy scares. I mean, I think like
One of the scariest parts is honestly making sure I'm doing everything right
So I'm not like messing up and like messing up the tanker all that but yeah
Listen, all right the fact that you love to cook,
I can't cook worth a damn.
I'm horrible and I think that might be one of the reasons
why I've been left by everybody that I've dated
because I can't cook, but what is your go-to dish?
Let's say if you're trying to impress somebody,
it's your go-to dish every time
and that's what you're gonna make
because you know they're gonna like it.
Yeah, I'll make some tacos.
Damn, Kiki, tacos?
I thought you were gonna say I would whip up some pasta, some linguini.
Nah, nah.
I'll keep it simple so I know I don't mess it up.
Hey, less is more.
Less is more.
Exactly.
And also, you're a big Marvel fan, so which Marvel character do you think would make the
best basketball player?
Just hypothetically speaking, if there was a Marvel character that actually played basketball, who would be the best?
Like the actor or the character?
Yeah, the character itself.
Probably Captain America.
Ah, I like that.
I like that.
Kiki, you also played high school,
you played high school soccer, one Gatorade Player of the Year.
What went into the decision
for you to choose basketball over soccer?
Yeah, I thought for a little bit about doing both in college,
but I just felt like that would be too much.
I think like playing one sport is already enough,
but to do both.
And I think the biggest thing is also just,
like I didn't wanna take my time away from this sport
that I liked the most, which is basketball.
And I want to be a pro, I want to do a lot of things.
And I think I needed to focus fully on that.
But I think the biggest thing was just feeling like,
like the basketball community,
I liked more than the soccer community.
Just my teammates, the teams I was on and all that stuff.
I think that's what really drew me
to just continue to play basketball. Well, you know what, Ankh? I like this. The fact that she played soccer,
and that makes me that much more of a fan now, but this can all change based on your answer.
All right.
Grishano or Messi?
Messi.
Messi.
There you go! That's what I'm talking about, Kiki! That's what I'm talking about, Kiki!
Kiki, Kiki, Kiki, Kiki, Kiki.
Ooh, Kiki.
Has to be messy.
Now we done.
All right, see what I'm saying?
Oh, I been trying to tell, Kiki,
I been trying to tell this man this
for the better part of two years.
He ain't wanna hear nothing I gotta say.
So whoop, there it is.
It's okay.
It's all good. I mean, she no greatness. I'm not saying. I know you were, but don't worry about it. You got what you got.
It's all good.
I'll get it.
Messy.
Messy.
It was in the documentary Full Court Press.
You mentioned that you grew up watching President Obama, and I think you had an aunt that was
like a national security advisor to doing President Obama's administration, correct?
Yes.
Did you get an opportunity to meet him?
Yes, I have met him. Okay. And probably, yeah, probably the coolest thing,
like congratulations text I got was Obama texted my aunt yesterday and said congrats.
That's probably the coolest thing for sure. Wow, that's awesome. That's that is unbelievable.
What else? So what what did you like to do in your free time? What so when you're not practicing basketball, you're not cooking tacos. What does Kiki like to do? I
Love to shop which flies in the best habit
Go so you get it
Exactly, I love to shop travel hang out with my teammates
I Exactly. No, I love to shop, travel, hang out with my teammates.
I mean, I don't have a ton of free time, but I would say just
actually, I'd like to go to the beach to like to sit outside. Well, you were the perfect place to go to the beach.
So what Venice Beach or Santa Monica?
Malibu, Santa Monica.
I mean, if I'm going to lay out, I'd rather go to Malibu.
It's much nicer.
But Santa Monica, if I got gotta go to like a close one,
yeah, over Venice.
Yeah, Venice is crowded.
Malibu, once you get on up there,
I mean, you got some nice spots.
I mean, it does get a little crowded,
but that water cold, man.
Yeah.
It's cold out here.
It's cold, people.
It's cold here.
I don't get in the water, though.
People think that the West Coast waters like the East
where the East is like warm.
This Pacific, oh no.
It is different, it's different.
I got one last question.
What legacy do you hope to leave at UCLA
and how do you envision influencing
the next generation of female athletes?
I hope to leave a legacy of championships here.
I want to bring, like I got two years left, so two national championships,
two more final fours, another conference championship.
And then I think the biggest thing is I want to influence the culture here.
I want to continue to help us, like like become, be a winning program and be,
um, you know, just a program that continues to produce like great,
great players and great people. Um, and then in terms of my legacy, um,
I mean, I want to be known as the hardest working person, um, and every,
and every room and every team that I'm on.
I like it.
Well, Kiki, congratulations on advancing to the final four.
Best of luck in the final four and look forward to watching you and your
continued success.
Hey, y'all cut down the net, come back, join Unc and Ocho and tell us all about it.
All right.
Thanks.
Appreciate your coming on with us.
Kiki Rice, UCLA outstanding player in the final four for the very first time in Lady Bruin history.
Gotta be an unbelievable honor. Seems like to me she wants to be she wants to be uh Asia. Asia
started this at South Carolina. She goes there. Yeah. She was the top basketball player in the
country. She goes to a program that's really not known for ladies basketball. And lo and behold, she starts it and now a bunch of final
fours later, three national championships later,
player of the year, Asia was player of the year,
Aliyah Boston was player of the year.
And now Lady Gamecocks are right up there with the,
the Yukons and the Tennessees.
When you think about ladies women's college basketball,
they're one of the most prominent programs in the NCAA.
So congratulations, UCLA.
Good luck.
Best of luck, Kiki.
