Please make sure you hit that like button and go subscribe to the Nightcap Podcast feed wherever you get your podcasts from. Thank you guys for your continued support. We know we're a little late tonight, but we wanted to follow the Lakers game because we thought this would be a very interesting game.
Starting point is 00:07:25 And if they were to win, it would have implications. And they did win. And now they're the number two seed in the West. Make sure you check out Shade by La Portier. We do have it in stock. If you can't find it in a city or state near you, order it. We ship it directly to your door. Please drink responsibly and stay safe.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Check out my media company on all of its platforms that's Shayshae Media and my clothing company 84 with 84 being spelled out. We just dropped our Super Bowl show shirts, hats, their bundle. There it is right there. The link is pinned at the top of the chat. Supplies are limited and once they're gone, they're gone. The Lakers beat the Clippers for the second time in three days, 108-102, to win for the 16th time in 19 games. At 38-21, the Lakers moved past the Nuggets for the number two seed in the Western Conference. Since turning 40 years old, LeBron James has the fourth highest three-point percentage in the entire NBA.
Starting point is 00:08:25 He didn't have a good night tonight. He struggled a little bit tonight, especially with turnovers, but Luker was sensational. Finny Smith played outstanding defense. Dalton Connect came off the bench with five of eight from three. He had 19 points and they win again. The Lakers are looking really good, Ocho. Hold on. Now when you say the Lakers are looking really good, now when I asked you earlier, when we talked about Lukewood coming to the Lakers, you said they didn't have enough pieces to make it out the West. Now you're saying the Lakers look good.
Starting point is 00:08:53 Are you saying they look good with a chance that they can contend or they just look good to finish off the season strong? No, I mean they're going to make the playoffs, but when you get into the playoffs, you condense your bench. You only end up playing about eight guys. Tonight they played what? They played nine guys. So you're going to be very, very limited. And you see they only have really Jackson Hayes, the big, Jimmison, the third, got in
Starting point is 00:09:23 a little foul trouble, not really sure what he's supposed to do. Um, the question is when they match up with team that has a big, uh, you know, okay, see, I don't really fear. Okay. See, I know Shay is sensational. They got two all stars with Jaylen Williams and say, shake your just, they're going to do what they do.
Starting point is 00:09:40 But the problem, the problem that they're going to have is that what Luca did to him last year. Right. And Luca about it got a better running mate, more comparable running mate, and LeBron did what he had with Kyrie. Now, what they were able to do last year was throw all those bigs at him. They had Likely, they had Daniel Gaffer. So it's gonna be very interesting. And we know what the Nuggets are. They got Nikola Jokic, and you got to be able to neutralize him.
Starting point is 00:10:03 Now, they did an unbelievable job the last time they played him. They swarmed him. Some guys struggled. Luca and LeBron were sensational and they ended up winning that game. But a lot goes into it when you to make it out because you got to win. You got to win what 12 games? Yeah. To make it out of the West.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Do I like their chances? The matchups. It's all about matchups once you get here. Now, hopefully they don't get the Nuggets in the first round, can build some momentum and then maybe meet them in the second round or the Western Conference Finals. But I like the way the Lakers are playing. I would have wished they had gotten a big, but you got what you got right now. There are no more bigs available.
Starting point is 00:10:44 You can't go to Walmart. You can't go to Kroger or Order one off Amazon. You got what you got. But I like the way the Lakers are playing. They play really good defensively on the getting after people and They just got to stop turning the ball over they had 16 turnovers LeBron and Luca had 14. LeBron had 8, Luca had 6. They could have blown this game open in the first quarter. But it was the turnovers that kept the Clippers attached to them to clean that up. But I think JJ will take it. They're playing really good basketball right now with you. Minus the turnover, they're
Starting point is 00:11:21 shooting the three ball well. They can shoot free throws a little better. They're 14 to 20 tonight. High percentage from the field. They were almost 50% from the field. You could live with that. Offensive rebounds, they were on the glass. They out-rebounded this team. But...
Starting point is 00:11:37 It's another good thing too I like about the Lakers. Obviously the acquisition of getting Luca. So when LeBron has a night like tonight where he's not on, then obviously, you're not gonna have a night with both Luca and LeBron aren't on. And Luca takes the brunt of the weight. Yes. 29.996. Yep. Shot 5 of 12, he's getting better from the three. Nine or 17 from the field. Didn't shoot the free throw, missed three free throws. So how long has it been back since he's been back from injury?
Starting point is 00:12:12 What was it about? It's probably about 11 or 12 games that he's been back. 12 games? Yeah. I mean, that's enough time to get back in the rhythm. That's enough time to get back in the rhythm. He's getting there. He's getting his legs back on him.
Starting point is 00:12:24 He's getting his conditioning back on him. You're getting shaped by playing. Whatever sport that is, you back in the rhythm. He's getting there. He's getting, he's getting his legs back on him. He's getting his conditioning back on him. You get in shape by playing whatever sport that is, you get in shape, play a certain sport. That's the only way to get in shape too. Yeah. I like the, you know, I like the, uh, uh, you know, getting on the cardio and doing all the other stuff, but you don't play foot, you don't play football, basketball, a particular sport on a bike. Unless you're in the tour.
Starting point is 00:12:47 And even in the tour, the prize, they have to get out there and they have to put the word road work and they have to put those miles in when they go into the abduwes and all that. You know that the show is a that this the show is a that's the finishing stages. But I like what I see with the Lakers. I really do. J.J. Reddick is doing an unbelievable job. He's definitely in the running for Coach of the Year. If he doesn't get Kenny Atkinson, what he's doing with Cleveland is unbelievable. But I don't think anybody thought J.J. would have this team where they are right now.
Starting point is 00:13:20 38 and 21, the number two seed in the Western Conference, playing really, really good basketball. They're defending at a high level. The offense is really fluid, except when they turn it down ball over. But they're getting up threes, they're shooting a good percentage from the three point line. Well, almost 43%, well 43% tonight, 18 or 42, has some really good looks that didn't go down. LeBron didn't shoot the three ball over the last couple of games. He's been shooting the three ball really well.
Starting point is 00:13:48 But tonight he struggled with the three ball. But that's what you got. You got a guy in Lucca that if LeBron's off, Lucca can carry the load. If Lucca's off, LeBron can carry the load, but you're going to need these contributors, Dory and Fannie Smith. I really like when Vanderbilt came and gave us off the bench. He didn't shoot the three ball well, but he's offended at a high level, got it on the glass. He had what?
Starting point is 00:14:09 Five offensive rebounds, nine total rebounds, one assist, two blocks. I like what I got from him. I love what I got from Don Connick. Even Shaq Milton came in and gave us a couple of big minutes. So you can't really complain. You got 40, what? Almost 40 points from your bench tonight. You can live with that.
Starting point is 00:14:27 You can live with that. Getting 40 points from the bench, knowing that you're going to get somewhere around what? 45, 50 from LeBron on a nightly basis. Yeah. Then your other starters chip in. And remember you play it without two starters. No Austin Reed, no Rui. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:44 How long before Reed's come back? We don't know he's dealing with a calf injury. So they say it's day by day. It could be three or four days. It could be two or three weeks. You don't know. It's the soft tissue injuries. It's dangerous, boy.
Starting point is 00:14:58 It is. It is. But I know I like what I'm seeing. I wonder what they're saying now. Because there's a lot of people talking. Hey, Wendy, I'll see you tomorrow, Wind Horse. Hey, Steven A, get at your boy. We gonna talk. Cause y'all have a whole lot to talk about.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Oh, the Lakers can't do nothing. The Lakers are like blah, blah, blah, blah. What happened now? You know what they gonna tell you, huh? They gonna tell you it was one game. That's what they gonna say. Nah. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:15:22 They gonna tell you it was one game and then's what they're going to say. Now, hold on. They're going to take they're going to take was one game and then they're going to flip things to. Well, if it was a semigame series, this and this and this and that. This is what would happen. But you notice when when the Lakers win is one game, if the Lakers lose, they just lost the series. I'm like, wait, wait a minute. It was I thought it was one game.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Oh, when the oh, they can't beat the Clippers. The Clippers, oh, really? Now LeBron got somebody to go ride shotgun with it. Boom. Now look at him. What now? I'm feeling good. I don't know, might have to bring the gold mask out or something.
Starting point is 00:16:01 You gonna bring it out? Might. Maybe. Ash got it. Ash, What you do with my mask? It's so cool. Yeah. Ash, Ash supposed to have my... She was supposed to order a new one.
Starting point is 00:16:20 This is the best time to order them. It ain't Halloween. No, he got horns. I made the crown, the crown. I go to... Yeah, I go to Party City. Oh, is Party City still there? Damn, I can't go there. Yeah, Party City gone now.
Starting point is 00:16:41 I go, what you call them? I go to, uh, hold on. What's the other store they got? Oh, I go to Burger King and called? I go to, hold on. What's the other store they got? Oh, I go to Burger King and get a crown. They got a crown. The Burger King got a crown. I go there. I go there and get me a crown. But LeBron has been playing unbelievable since he's averaged at almost 30 points a game,
Starting point is 00:17:00 nine and eight since turning 40. He's played extremely well. I just know this with Luca taking him off the ball and you have Austin Reeves, who's another ball handler, handler. Would I be surprised if LeBron played 24, 25 seasons? Nope, not now. Cause he's not going to wear him that they're not going to wear him down. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Because Reeves and, Reeves and Luca take so much pressure off of them. Listen, it's no, it's no different than, I hate to use this example. When you have a quarterback that has to rely on his receivers to do everything. And all of a sudden you get a running back. All of a sudden you get a running back where all the pressure is taken away from the quarterback. Yep. Same concept. It's the same thing. You mean to tell me I can hand the ball off to Saquon. Let's say Saquon, for example.
Starting point is 00:17:44 Yeah. Over and over and over. And I don't have to do much because he can take up most of the production. tell me I can hand the ball off to Saquon. Let's say Saquon for example. Yep. Over and over and over and I don't have to do much because he can take up most of the production. Mm-hmm. Hey, cool. You mean I don't got to handle the ball, I can give it to Luca or awesome Rega take it because he can create his own shot?
Starting point is 00:17:56 Yep. Man, and I believe you actually with the way LeBron take care of his body, the way he take care of his body, he can't play another four. Hell, maybe five. He might want to stretch it the same way Tom Brady did. Make some noise for the greatest shooter of all time, Steph Curry. We went live from All-Star Weekend for a new podcast called GOAT, Greatest of Their Era. And we ranked our top five shooters from the 2000s. Paysia 5 dirt 4. Paysia is elite. Okay. Okay. I'm mad I left them off my list but
Starting point is 00:18:30 I still like my list. You won't believe who Steph left off his list. That's so tough. That's why we have these conversations. Yes. Absolutely. I love it. Steph talked about what separates the truly elite NBA shooters. When you have a scouting report and you're on the list as not just a shooter, but we have specific rules for how we guard you. There's a fear factor that's associated with anytime you're wide open, like you might as well just count that and get on back on defense. Listen to GOAT, G-O-T-E, greatest of their era on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
Starting point is 00:19:05 you get your podcasts. I can see him playing 25 seasons. I really can. Because the way he's averaging 25, 9, and 8 right now, or 25, 8, and 7. Right. I mean, think about it. I mean, he's playing at an all NBA level. I mean, are there 10 players currently playing better than LeBron? I mean, you take Shay, you take Yonah, you take
Starting point is 00:19:37 Yoke. Then what are we talking here? Are we sure? Are we sure there are 10 players currently playing because there's three all NBA teams, you know, two defensive and three on the offensive end. Are we sure there are 15, there are 10 players, let alone 15, that are playing better than LeBron James is right now and for the season? Look at his numbers. Look at his team. Because before, y'all say he he just put up numbers in a losing effort now look at it second in the West Look at his numbers 25 or 24 points eight rebounds eight assists. Are we sure?
Starting point is 00:20:14 Are we sure? Players currently playing better than LeBron James let alone 15. We know they're not 15, but are they 10? They can find an argument. Enjoy this. I don't believe you'll ever see a guy play this long and play at this level again. No. It's just. No, I just don't. I just don't. Now I talk about Lakers peaking in March. If they were losing, it's one thing.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Let them win. I mean they just got looking for 11 games. They need to get some continuity. Now you got Reeves out, you got Rui out. It's hard. It's hard to drive it because those are two of your starters. Yes. But Phenny Smith came in, played extremely well tonight.
Starting point is 00:21:10 Gabe Vincent in the starting lineup, played well. Three or six from the three point line, got a couple of rebounds. But I like what I saw from the Lakers tonight. There's nothing to, there's nothing really to be upset about. What, LeBron James is now what, one point away from 50,000 total points? 50,000? When you combine playoffs and the postseason.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Oh, okay, okay, okay. I was gonna say he just gave me the 40,000 ball. How the hell he get the 50 that fast? Nah, he ain't getting 50 that fast. No, I don't think it. Hopefully you enjoyed it. Hopefully you enjoy what you got an opportunity to watch and appreciate it. You got to critique it and find out everything because we normally lead with what he doesn't do well. Well, he doesn't do this and he doesn't do that. He doesn't do that instead of just like, you know what?
Starting point is 00:22:03 Appreciate it while it's here. I appreciate what you got. Oh, Robert or spoke about LeBron earlier today and said, if LeBron got the same calls this year, he would average 30 points a game and it'd be no question to MVP because he's so much better physically stronger, uh, Lee, you make a, uh, a vital mistake if you gave that to someone other than him as of right now. Well, they've been stopped because what they do, Ocho, is they say it's the same thing they did with Shaq. How do you officiate? He's so big. That's not what
Starting point is 00:22:32 Dr. James Naismith, when he instituted, he didn't say if a guy is bigger than the opponents, you don't call files. If they file him, they filed him. Call him. Most definitely. But they do take that into account. They just do. It's not fair, obviously. And Robert already is right. If they gave LeBron the call that they give SGA, he would have averaged 30. He would. But again, they take into account that LeBron is so much physically bigger than most, especially
Starting point is 00:23:04 those that's having to guard them. I get it in a sense and it's not fair, but I totally understand where they're coming from when they do do that. Remember, remember what they used to do with Cam Newton too? Remember? Yeah. Sometimes I have some of those calls and now that's a blatant, blatant foul. But because it's Camdune, because he's bigger,
Starting point is 00:23:27 more imposing, you ever got him? Yeah, now in the pocket, I agree with you. But once you put that ball up under your arm, you better tee off on him. Because Ocho, if the coach, the head coach and the offensive coordinator is not going to protect that guy, why should I? Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:23:48 When you say it, when you put it like that, I got you. Hey, you're running them on quarterback power. You're pulling two guards and a fullback and running your quarterback on the power. And you're supposed to think I'm supposed to lay him down? No, I'm going to lay him out if I get a clean shot on him. Right. Uh, but I don't believe in, uh, even LeBron when he was at his peak and getting calls, he didn't go to the line like Shay. Shay go to the line 21 times a night. He would have had 70 points if they, if they would call files like James
Starting point is 00:24:19 Harden used to go to the line. You remember James Harden had this trick? Uh, Chad, I know y'all know what we're talking about. When James Harden used to go to the line. You remember James Harden had that stretch. Chad, I know y'all know what we're talking about. When James Harden was going to the line a night like 15 times a night, Shea's going to the line like 13 to 16 times a night. Man, is that letting LeBron go to the fire line that many times? Man, please.
Starting point is 00:24:39 Shea aggressive. Shea is very aggressive too. Like he's literally going to the hoop. That when James Harden had that stretch, he was literally taking people out no matter what. You know where I'm going, you're gonna have to stop it. Even Yannis, can you imagine? Can you imagine when LeBron, man, what you think LeBron used to do? He's delivering the pay. Hey Yannis, how does Yonis' move work, man? He'd do the same two moves every goddamn time. The Euro Step experience. Yeah! And they work every time. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:16 He's uh, he's gonna have to like, the thing is that hopefully he's working on a contract because he's not to always be this athletic. You see what LeBron did, LeBron developed that three point shot. You got to improve more the faster you gain, the athletic. And because the athletic, he's supremely athletic now. Um, but LeBron and the Lakers are playing well. Luca, uh, LeBron, uh, his last MVP season, he was like 30, if I'm not mistaken. It was 2013. It was 2013 because yeah, that was the second of the back to back.
Starting point is 00:25:57 He was averaging 26.8, so he's averaging 27 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists. He shot a 56, 41, 75. Right now, since turning 40, he's 26.4, eight rebounds, eight assists, 55, 44, 76. So he's shooting better from the three, better from the free throw line, averaging more rebounds, more assists, and basically damn near the same amount.
Starting point is 00:26:24 One percentage, he's 56, field goal percentage 55 right now. He's playing unbelievable. He does a great job of taking care of himself. It's really important to him. His wife allows him to do it. She ain't in his ear chirping about you need to come home. How much longer are you going to play? You know, obviously you have to have someone really, really supportive to play this length of time.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Anytime you see someone play this length of time, their partner, significant other, whoever is that person is in their life, Ocho, you have to sign on for that. Yeah. You have to, I mean, go ahead. That's so important. I don't think a lot of people understand what it takes, especially to the play as long to achieve that type of greatness. You know, and obviously having someone by your side with great understanding and having that same vision that you do, that same vision of success, not just success short-term, but long-term success, on the field and off the field. So commendable, commendable to be able to find that because everybody's not able to You know, right?
Starting point is 00:27:27 You know It's hard, boy It is Especially before you make it When you talk about before you made it i'm talking about before you make it Yeah, you have to have somebody had to understand ocho. Okay. This is what i'm trying to accomplish I need you to hope because you got I, you can't have chaos in your personal life and think it's going to be serenity on the court, don't you? You got to have peace at home in order for you to have peace on the court.
Starting point is 00:27:56 Say, say, say, say what you just said again. Say what you just said, say what you just said again for the people in the chat, even if you don't play a sport. If you don't play a sport, let's say your nine to five job. You got to have peace at home. You can't have chaos at home. You can't. And that's just on a smaller scale.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Especially. Sometimes they can't even get it right on a smaller scale. And we talk about wanting to do great things. Like the example you're talking about. If you can't do it on a small scale, how are you going to do it on a grander scale? Yeah, because the thing is that an athlete's mind is his greatest muscle, is his greatest strength. And it needs to be free. You can't be thinking about having an argument with a significant other. He can't think about something that's going on out the field. And for the most part, the really great ones compartmentalize. about something that's going on out the field. And for the most part, the really great ones compartmentalize. But even if you're trying to compartmentalize on a few occasions, you know,
Starting point is 00:28:50 maybe death in the family or something like that. But you try to compartmentalize every game for a year or for years. Nah, it ain't happening. It's really not. You really need peace. And you know, Savannah made it ain't happening. It's really not. You really need peace. And, you know, Savannah made it abundantly clear. She wanted to be a wife. She wanted to be a housewife. She wanted to take care of the home, take care of the kids.
Starting point is 00:29:14 Bronn, do what you need to do on the court. And, you know, that's what you need. You see, he got, LeBron got married early on. Locked it down. And people got mad at me when I said, I think the face of the league probably needs to be kind of locked down. If you go back and look at it, guys that have been the face of the league, have they been single? Still curve married. Kobe Bryant, Kobe'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie.
Starting point is 00:29:45 I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie.
Starting point is 00:29:53 I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie.
Starting point is 00:30:01 I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not gonna lie. I'm not and Michael. I mean, uh, Mike, uh, uh, Magic and Larry. So you go back, Dr. J. Hey, you think that's a prerequisite? It's not a prerequisite, but what did people get so mad about Tiger about?
Starting point is 00:30:29 Tiger got married, became the face of golf. And then when he did what he did, people got upset. Why? Because he was supposed to be the all-American guy. He was supposed to be a family. Pals, what? Picket fence, 2.5 kids. Okay, 2.5. I ain't gonna have 2.5. I just said that's what they say the average family has. 2.5. I'm going to say that's what that's what they say to every family 2.5 kid I Like that and they you know I'm saying it's just that's just the way it is. Yeah, I mean listen Look at the quarterbacks been the face of Lee. Look at the quarterbacks name a single quarterback There's been the face of the league. Always, always, always. I just want to know.
Starting point is 00:31:05 Chat, tell me the quarterback that's been the face of the league and he's been single. I'll wait. We can go back. How far you want to go back? You want to go back to Johnny Uninas? How far you want to go back? You want to go back to Bart Starr?
Starting point is 00:31:21 You want to go to Roger Starback? You want to go to Montana, Elway, Marina? Who you want to go back, Bob Star? You want to go Roger Starback? You want to go to Montana, Elway, Marina? Who you want to go to? Brady, Manning? I'm just trying to figure out, you want to throw Breeze in there? Who you want to go to? Hey, hey. You want to go to my home?
Starting point is 00:31:36 I'm just, I'm just trying to figure out where you want to go with it. It must be in the rule book or something. It must be somewhere in the rule book. You know, in order for you to have that greatness, you got to have that, you know what, by your side. You got to have that. It's tough.
Starting point is 00:31:52 They're outliers. Right. It's the, it seems like it's the standard for a reason. Look how far you just went back. And what does everybody have in common? What is the common denominator? A man who finds it the good wife, finds it the good thing. And what does everybody have in common? What is the common denominator? A man who finds it the good wife, finds it the good thing.
Starting point is 00:32:09 You know, I think the only last 50 years, the only guy that you could say was a face of the NFL and then when wasn't married was probably Rogers. Aaron. Yeah. But he always had a spouse on the side without the ring. It was always. I mean, he was. always had a spouse on the side without the ring. It was always somebody. I mean he was He had uh, uh, uh, uh, uh danica patrick danica patrick he had uh, shalane woodley
Starting point is 00:32:36 Yeah Yeah, uh and then he had uh, olivia mullan Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Eric, Eric, Eric, Eric, Eric had a nice little lineup now. Yeah. But I think the thing is like the NBA, when you go back and study the NBA, when the NBA, the guys that have been the face of the league in my lifetime, and I, you know, I'm just going, I go back to Dr. J and come forward.
Starting point is 00:33:03 They've all, they've all had, they've all been grounded. They've all with, you know, people like that's a family man. Yeah. It is what it is. Funny how that works, huh? Oh Joe LeBron started a bit of a discourse on Friday when he spoke about aunt not striving to be the face of the league. Let's take a listen to what Goat James had to say.
Starting point is 00:33:26 I don't know. Why do you want to be the face of a league when all the people that cover our game and talk about our game on a day to day basis shit on everybody? That responsibility, that's just weird. It's weird energy. I like that. I like it. I like it. I like it. But again, are you able to be the face of the league and deal with the scrutiny that comes with on the other side of the media?
Starting point is 00:33:53 Can you not care? The word I like to use and you use this time, can you compartmentalize and separate the two? Still go out there and do what you need to do despite knowing with being the face of the league, you got to be on-7. Are you gonna be on 24-7? Absolutely not. You won't have your nights You have your nights. You don't have your nights you off you have your night. You want your hides your highs to be You want the percentage of your high to be much better than your lows? Yeah, no one wants to deal with that though You think about it LeBron had LeBron is the right person to be able to talk about it because he's had pressure since he came out of high school.
Starting point is 00:34:29 Yes. He'd have to deal with it. Times 10, more than anybody I could think of because of the expectations coming out of high school. But you know what? The thing is, Ocho, is that look, that's not something a player says, I want to be the face. That we get to determine that.
Starting point is 00:34:45 The media get to determine the face of the NBA. The fans get to determine the face of the NBA. Not said player. That's not something. LeBron didn't say I'm the face of the NBA. That's not what Magic, that's not what Jordan, that's not what Berg, that's not what Colby, that's not what Steph did. Right.
Starting point is 00:35:02 It sustained excellence for a period of time and they won. It's a sustained excellence for a period of time and you win just because you got a couple of highlights that don't mean you bout to be the face of the league. Nah. And look I get it you know it's like, well, Jason Tatum and Shay, it's just hard for me to see a foreign born player because this is an American sport. It's just hard for me to see Americans getting behind a non-American athlete saying you're the face of our sport. But we'll see what happens. But when you look at Ja, you look at Ant,
Starting point is 00:35:47 you look at Tatum, and people are like, well, Jason Tatum, I like Jason Tatum. But people keep saying, well, hold on. Are we sure Jason Tatum is the best player on his own team? Because all I know, finals MVP went to Jaylen Brown. All I know is Eastern Conference finals MVP went to Jaylen Brown. So are we certain?
Starting point is 00:36:06 Right. Because it can be no ambiguity. Kobe couldn't come to face in the league as the second best player on his own team. Shaq had to leave in order for him to be that face. Right. Jordan was the best player on his team. Burr was the best player. Magic was the best player. LeBron was the best player on his team. Burr was the best player.
Starting point is 00:36:25 Magic was the best player. LeBron was the best player. Now, it might have taken 22 years for you to say, you know what, LeBron is the second best player, not if he got a guy that damn near 10 years, well, 14 years younger than he is. Luka just turned 26 the other day. But I mean, Zion, Zion's got to win. He's got to be on the court. So the guys
Starting point is 00:36:49 that we could say as far as American players, Ja, Ant-Man, Zion, Jason Tatum, We'll see. Make some noise for the greatest shooter of all time, Steph Curry. We went live from All-Star Weekend for a new podcast called Go Greatest of Their Era. And we ranked our top five shooters from the 2000s. Paysia five dirt four. Paysia is a lead. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:37:20 I'm mad at him, I left him off my list, but I still like my list. You won't believe who Steph left off his list. That's so tough. That's why we have these conversations. Yes, absolutely. I love it. Steph talked about what separates the truly elite NBA shooters.
Starting point is 00:37:36 When you have a scouting report and you're on the list as not just a shooter, but we have specific rules for how we guard you. There's a fear factor that's associated with anytime you're wide open. Like you might as well just count that and get on back on defense. Listen to GOAT, G-O-T-E, greatest of their era on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Oh Joe, he elaborated the next morning. Exactly made my point, made my point. But anyways, happiness converse, Convo has started it.
Starting point is 00:38:15 Ain't no face of the game. Ain't no about one person or one show. It's about a culture of basketball. The beautiful game in the world, the most beautiful game in the world. My game has never been better. Incredible young stars from all over the world, some elder ones, Steph Curry, she'll be all we're talking about today.
Starting point is 00:38:33 True. Man, Drop 56, we talked about it, Ocho. Let's discuss how great OKC and the Cavs have been this season with two completely different styles and break down why and how they have. Of course, if players don't perform, we need to discuss that too and break it and break that down. Even that can't be discussed in a way that's not a brain finality to a player's game, but
Starting point is 00:38:59 leave room to see how the player responds and let's watch the journey of that player. You're saying about me either. At this point, I really don't care what you said about me. Always, it's always something. This is about the impact of negativity is having on our beautiful game and our fans. I know it speak a lot about players. More importantly, a hell of a lot of great fans and truly love and celebrate the sport around the world.
Starting point is 00:39:22 Mind the game. the sport around the world behind the game. What you think, Adocho? Damn, that's it. I'm trying to think. I mean, you look at it. I mean, look, the sports are about stories. What's the story?
Starting point is 00:39:57 I mean, Shay, I mean, we're about to have another foreign born MVP. That's what we're about to have. Shades from Canada. You can just one three. Shade not from the crib. Shade from Canada. Shade from Canada. We don't just want three. Y'all is one to Joe Allen B.
Starting point is 00:40:23 We've been a while since we had American born MVP. Well, wow. Look, he's right. The calves, the calves be getting up threes. Donovan Mitchell didn't play tonight, but they had Ty Jerome come in, played unbelievable. Uh, who else? Somebody else. I was watching the game.
Starting point is 00:40:52 I was flipping back and forth, but they had to come from behind because they were down down to the whole game in Portland and they came back and ended up winning in overtime. But uh, they've been really good and they were down the other night against Boston and found a way to win in Boston because Boston has had their number this year, Ocho. And as I mentioned earlier, Kenny Atkinson has those guys playing really, really well. I don't think he should have lost his job in Brooklyn, but hey, you know, they got guys and they wanted to move in a different direction. And with that level of talent, when your aspirations are a championship.
Starting point is 00:41:30 And you hire a guy like. Like Steve Nash. Hey. They did. But look, if you're the face of anything. Too much is given, much is required. Yeah, you're going to get a lot of benefits as far as advertising dollars as sponsorships going to come your way. But you do heavy as the head that wears the crown.
Starting point is 00:41:53 And that's one of the pros of it now. Let's talk about it. We'll talk about it. Yes. Deandre Hunter, that's the guy. They picked him up from Atlanta. I'm surprised, but Atlanta's like, Hey, we're not going anywhere. So let's, let's offload Deandre Hunter, that's the guy. They picked him up from Atlanta. I'm surprised, but Atlanta's like, hey, we're not going anywhere, so let's offload.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Deandre Hunter can play. He was, he still can, but he, hey, he should be sixth man of the year, because he was balling, he's averaging 20 off the bench. And then people laugh at me when I said I averaged 28, 20, 12, and 10 off the bench. Nah. You averaged 28 seconds off the bench.
Starting point is 00:42:28 No, I'm just saying. You getting straight, you getting straight, you getting straight, the game's out of hand. No, come on, absolutely not. If Brother Hunter could do it, what do you think I would do if that was my game? Yeah, Brother Hunter was my most outstanding player in the
Starting point is 00:42:49 March Madness. Yeah, that's not you. Okay. I Just I was just throwing that out there. Okay, Jamie Foster defends LeBron's legacy If he came up with a cure of cancer, they would say yeah, what about diabetes? If he came up with a curing cancer, they would say yeah, what about diabetes? 40,000 points over 20 years of play carrying this bum ass league on his shoulders ungrateful No matter no matter what you do. They're always finding a way to down your greatness no matter nobody Nobody oh Joe. I've covered I followed this game for an extended period of time. And I go a ways back. Nobody in the history of sports other than Muhammad Ali, when he did what he did, ever caught the vitriol that this man did.
Starting point is 00:43:38 Nobody go, go back and look it up. Nobody has. Nobody. The man scores 50. They say, well, Kobe would have got 70. Jordan would have got 80. The man gives you a 50-point triple-double. Again, that team, y'all do realize a lot of these teams were in the league when Kobe played.
Starting point is 00:44:09 But y'all just goes, y'all do realize Kobe retired. He was 36 and 37. 37. Yeah. Y'all remember what he looked like his last three years or you, we just going to forget that. Oh, okay. Don't wait. We're going to forget that.
Starting point is 00:44:21 Don't even worry about it. Don't you? We're going to forget that. Yes, sir. Do y'all remember about what Jordan looked like in Washington? Washington. We just going just forget that. Don't even worry about it, Ocho. We're gonna forget that. Yes, sir. Do y'all remember about what Jordan looked like in Washington? Washington? We just gonna get that. See, oh, that was just finishing up.
Starting point is 00:44:34 Now, if they had won a title, everybody would have spoke about the greatness of those two guys. Now they didn't win a title, didn't come close to winning a title. I heard when LeBron first got to L. all he came, he came to be Michael B. Jordan. He came to be a movie star. Now he's been all NBA since he's been here. He's won a title. He's been the MVP of the finals and they still won't give him no credit.
Starting point is 00:45:02 They, they, listen, they, I ain't got no problem giving people credit. If you play good, I'm going to say you play good. If you play good, I'm going to say you play good. If you play bad, I'm going to say that too. Yeah. You always been fair, but listen. But that's the luxury. That's the luxury about having your own platform. That's the luxury of being in a situation.
Starting point is 00:45:20 Hey, everybody knows how I feel about LeBron, but if he plays bad, I don't have a problem saying that. Same thing with my home. Same thing with Kelsey. But see, I like it because they say I criticize. When I criticize Josh Allen, they say I'm racist. If I criticize Lamar, they say I don't like Black. So I'm doing a pretty good job, Ocho. So I'm getting on both sides. You know, I'm doing it right down the middle there.
Starting point is 00:45:42 You're right. Listen, you're fair. You're fair and everybody get the same treatment. That's it. Now I don't hear anybody said when Lamar was coming out I say I don't care what they say Lamar don't you take your ass to receiver don't do no receiver drills don't do no DB drills you are quarterback go play quarterback and then if you can't make it as a quarterback, say, you know what, I can't play quarterback, let me go head on. I'll go to wide receiver. But don't you, I'm not running no drills
Starting point is 00:46:12 at no wide receiver because I've been a quarterback. Mm-hmm. Even when he struggled, I was supportive. But if he plays bad, and I say, well, Lamar didn't play well today, he's got to do a better job of taking care of the say well Lamar didn't play well today He's got to do a better job of taking care of the football Why you know bro? Well, so what am I supposed to say if Lamar plays bad?
Starting point is 00:46:32 I just want y'all to tell me what am I supposed to say? Cuff Brady played bad. I was I said that when Peyton played bad I said that when Romo and breeze and Dak and whomever else, when they play bad, you looking at it too. The only difference is, I get to tell you since look, in a situation like this, why would he throw the ball into that coverage? When you know it's this coverage and you know you got,
Starting point is 00:46:58 you supposed to go elsewhere with the ball. I ain't got no ass to grind. I ain't jealous of the... I had an okay career old Joe. Old seventh round draft pick. Made it all the way to the high. Pro bowls, all pros, soup bowls, all. So why... I'm just trying to figure out people saying you be jealous of what? Y'all make it seem like I was a special teams guy. I did. I started out on special teams old Joe.. Led the team to tackle. Wish you was on point return. I had something for you too.
Starting point is 00:47:30 Who? I bet you can't sit on no branch and turn your head around. You. You. That's who. You scared to catch the puns. You scared to get back there? I ain't even worried about you back there. Who? You doing an awful lot of whoing tonight. I-I-You keep forgetting when my rookie here- my rookie in my-my first and second season,
Starting point is 00:47:55 I was the wedge buster and you keep talking about me being scared to do- I ain't talking about you being a wedge buster. You ain't no wedge. You're too light to be a wedge buster. You get your neck broke. Uh. You do realize... Okay, I don't want to get off topic, but I was a wedge buster. Ask my teammates. I'm sure you know some of my teammates as a rookie
Starting point is 00:48:14 when I came in who the wedge buster was. Not you. Because back then, the wedge was a thousand pounds. They had three man wedges. I know how much it was. And you ain't hitting those three man. First of all, you ran into Ray at 245 and collapsed like a deck of cards.
Starting point is 00:48:30 Time out. You saw me run into Ray and trip over my shoestring is what you saw. No, I didn't see that. No, I didn't see that. I did not see that. So I can imagine if you chat, y'all think he ran into Ray at
Starting point is 00:48:46 245 and collapsed you think he gonna run into a thousand pound wedge It's a you understand physics the laws of physics. I understand it. I was a math major I was the econ major so I understood what angles I need to take on the wedge and To to affect what they did regardless of size. Oh Joe and to affect what they did regardless of size. Ocho, you do realize the wedge back then, you had, I mean, it was like deliming, an offensive lineman. So you're dealing with 330, 340, running. I was there. You sitting there telling me like I was there.
Starting point is 00:49:20 I'm the one running. I'm the one running into it. What are you doing? I want to see some tape when you busted the wedge Sure. Yeah, that's so you add dick LeBeau No, I don't ask him out there tape like you tell me you want to take from when I drop 52 or what? I have every 30 you want to take I ain't seen no tape yet I want to see tape when you busted the wedge Now I just pull some tape with you. I could give some tape for you me on special teams if you want it
Starting point is 00:49:45 And I'm at I'm at I'm at NFL films pull it for you. I can give some tape for you, me on special teams. If you want it. And I'm gonna have NFL Philips pull it for you. So you can see it. If you, if you want me to pull some tape for me making tackles on special team, on kickoff, on punt, I was a gunner. If you want to see me making tackles, I can do that, Ocho. Okay.
Starting point is 00:50:03 I get that on you. Hey, man, if I ask matter of acid alias Thomas about me You were first of all you were no no you wasn't on no special team with ad was playing yeah He was the gunner man would you try to eat I know it was a gunner huh I don't pass with the gunner Yes, yes, and I only think was a gunner. Huh? I know Fast was a gunner, yes. Yes, and I only think I was on him. I still play special teams even then. So you was a jammer? Yes, in my prime.
Starting point is 00:50:34 I was everywhere. He, he, he, he, he. Ah. He, he, he, he. Jimmy Butler has been sued for allegedly failing to pay $260,000 in rent and leaving behind more than $127,000 in damages related to a luxury home he leased in Miami Beach. In the suit, the plaintiffs contend, Butler failed to pay two months of rent at $130,000 per month for the property.
Starting point is 00:51:04 Damn! Hold on. Oh, top-man. The lawsuit. Come back again. Hold on. How much? Oh, Joe. $130,000 per month.
Starting point is 00:51:11 The lawsuit also alleges that Butler changed the looks and would, the law, excuse me, it would not give the key to the property owner keeping maintenance workers from entering the home. Butler also is alleged to have failed to maintain the swimming pool, the air conditioning, and a lot of leaving leading to an extensive mold that require replacement of the ceiling floors on the property. A hundred, hold on, a hundred and thirty thousand dollars a month. I'm trying to think how much is that?
Starting point is 00:51:44 That's like a 25. That's like a 25 million dollar home mojo. Oh What I'm listen? Hello. How much how much? Hello How you paid how you paid? $130,000 a month on a 10 million dollar home a 10 million dollar on the home only supposed to charge you about 40,000 to 45,000 a month on a $10 million home. A $10 million home only supposed to charge you about $40,000 or $45,000 a month. Listen, the fact that you even know the numbers of how much it sure costs, that lets me know
Starting point is 00:52:13 I'm out of, y'all out of my range. Y'all out of my range. I mean, the numbers you're even saying is too much because I can see it, I got it, but it's not it's not it's not connecting 130 who a month never ever I don't care what it is. Ten million dollar home for what? Because I'm looking because I play an NBA Why because I make a certain amount of money. That means my lifestyle has to make has to match
Starting point is 00:52:41 Yeah, but Jim. I don't know why Jimmy just didn't buy, I don't know why Jimmy didn't buy a place because he had been there for this steady period of time. He knows he won't live here. It's not his home state. Yeah, that's 1.5 million. Oh, you know, and 1.5 million. Oh, he doesn't, Ocho, if that's 10 million, I'm a home. That's a drop in the bucket for some, for them dudes.
Starting point is 00:53:04 That's a drop in the bucket for them dudes. That's beside the point. The point is, Ocho, he's paying that much in rent for a place that he's sending somebody, he's paying for somebody else vacation home. Right. He's paying for somebody else's kids to go to private school and nice college. Right. 1.5 million on a $ million dollar home that's crazy and that is absolute that's his bonkers hey remember what kind of money they make
Starting point is 00:53:32 uh they make yes I get that but just because you make a few money I'm trying to let I'm trying to figure out what financial advisor let him spend 1.5 million on a house that's only valued at 10 million. That's my point. Damn, if you got it, if you got a financial person, ain't no financial person in their right mind would let their client do that. Yeah, that's, that's. Listen, I ain't telling.
Starting point is 00:53:57 I'm, I'm, I'm cause I mean, I mean, what do you have a financial advisor for? Now, maybe they did tell him and he didn't listen because like you said, he's making that money. Yeah Me what's the point of having a financial advisor if I'm not gonna take his advice? And what if the financial body didn't even say anything because he wants to continue to remain his financial advisor If you know what I mean Yeah If you know what I mean. Yeah. Hey that's a hundred and thirty. Hey, man, I'm still trying to wrap my head around that. Yeah, but every month you hear me.
Starting point is 00:54:32 Boy stop playing boy. Jesus. Add it up. That's gotta be, that's gotta be a third. Uh, what's the interest rate? God. Put in a Google, a 40 million, if I put $2 million down on a $40 million home, what would be my monthly, what would be my monthly payments? Because this, hey, this is freaking me out, old Joe. Now the, just the number, the numbers being at high.
Starting point is 00:55:03 Yes. The numbers being at high in general, It just doesn't sit right with yes Yeah, you put no say you put that 10% you gotta put down 10% of house, right Okay, put down 4 million. So that's 30. Okay. So how much is the monthly payments? And what's what's in huh 220,000? Okay, okay five percent interest rate. So come down to 20 25 million. So you put down% down, which is
Starting point is 00:55:53 $2.5 million, would come to $137,000 a month. Oh, so that means Jimmy must have been on Star Island then. I don't know where he was. All I'm saying is with that kind of money that you're paying out monthly, I know. I don't ask me how I know, but I know. 25 million dollar home. It's only so many 25 million dollar homes. Coral Gables, Star Island. It stands in Miami Beach. Yeah, so that's definitely, it got to be Star Island. That's the only place and obviously,
Starting point is 00:56:26 you're not paying for the house, you're paying for the location. Location. Real estate, what is real estate, Ocho? Location, location, location. That's it, that's all it is. That's it. Now you can get the same house that's 25 million in Miami Beach and you could be in Houston and get it for five million. Yes. Boy, do you know how much house you could get in Houston or Vegas or or Tennessee? What? Oh yeah, yeah. Crazy. Man, you'd have to have, listen, you'd have to have like maid service like they got at a hotel to clean that. Oh yeah, to clean that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You talking about 50,000? Hold on. Holyfield built the Holyfield house, the one Ross got. Yeah. That's 50 plus thousand square feet.
Starting point is 00:57:10 He built that for like $10 million. That's it? Yes! It's ginormous! Huge. Huge. You see how much grass? You got a full baseball field, Olympic-sized swimming pool.
Starting point is 00:57:26 Different. Yeah, I'm listening. $130,000 a month? Nah, hell nah. Nah, I can't do that. Not even if I got the money, Ocho. Yeah. Who you telling?
Starting point is 00:57:42 Who you telling? Hey listen, you talking to the choir. Hey, man. Man, please. Make some noise for the greatest shooter of all time, Steph Curry. We went live from All-Star Weekend for a new podcast called GOAT, Greatest of Their Hair, and we ranked our top five shooters from the 2000s. Paysia 5, Dirt 4. Paja 5 dirt 4. Paja is elite. I'm mad I left him off my list but I still like my list.
Starting point is 00:58:10 You won't believe who Steph left off his list. That's so tough. That's why we have these conversations. Yes, absolutely. I love it. Steph talked about what separates the truly elite NBA shooters. When you have a scouting report and you're on the list as not just a shooter, but we have specific rules for how we guard you. There's a fear factor that's associated with it. Anytime you're wide open,
Starting point is 00:58:34 like you might as well just count that and get on back on defense. Listen to GOAT, G-O-T-E, greatest of their era on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. 30-year-old Davis, who is undefeated and was the heavy favorite, took a knee in the middle of the ninth round before retreating towards corner and remembered to wipe his face with a towel. The unusual move, essentially a timeout, should have been assessed a knockdown and Steve Wilson appeared to begin the 10 count.
Starting point is 00:59:14 But Willis then can be heard on the broadcast telling Davis, you take a knee like that, it looks like a knockdown. However, the fight continued without Roach being credited with knocking Davis down. Davis said during the post-fight interview in the ring that he got his hair done Thursday and the grease from the hair was burning his eyes. Hairstylist denies putting a lot of grease on the hair. Especially, I did his hair Wednesday.
Starting point is 00:59:40 It's Saturday. He did press, gym, weight. That's not an excuse how much grease did. How much grease did I use? Damn. You're like, you're infing to mess up my business. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You gotta, you gotta, listen,
Starting point is 00:59:55 you gotta be careful with that answer because obviously because she's the one that does this here, her clientele is shot up because she's the one that does this here. Now you come out and say something like that, you're the reason why, now's going to mess up business up. So she got to come out and defend herself. Absolutely right away.
Starting point is 01:00:11 She has to now obviously watching the fight, watching the punch. I don't think, I think he's surprising. I think he's surprising with the punch and he hit him in the wrong spot, the wrong place and they caught him by surprise and they called him to go down. I'm just saying, honestly. Who, Roach? Yeah, Roach caught him by surprise. I didn't see, I didn't think he got hit.
Starting point is 01:00:34 You don't think so? He got hit. I don't think so. But regardless, when you take a knee, if you go back and look at, when Floyd Mayweather fought Cruz, I think, what was it 2001? And he hit him, he hit him on the button and he hurt his hand and he took a knee. Yeah. And they started, he's like, no, I just started to take a knee.
Starting point is 01:00:54 Yeah. So if they give, if they, if they take, if they give him that point, he wins the fight. Yeah. He wins the fight. Hey, hey, listen, them boys were going at it, boy. Them boys were going at it. I think that there was a part that I really enjoyed, obviously, you know, boxing is about, you know, moving around.
Starting point is 01:01:16 And there was a point where Tank and Roach decided, you know what, we tied right now. We finna sit here in the pocket and we finna bang. Man, I mean, just exchange. We tied right now. We finna sit here in the pocket and we finna bang Man, I mean just exchange But I'm boy with Thorin boy Rose didn't back down at all at all And did you see the size difference in the ring? Obviously? Yeah, obviously Roach being you know, man being being the bigger man But Roach came up Roach normally fights at 130. He came up to 135 What they look huge in the ring. Yeah. Either way, listen, they got to rematch. They got to rematch. That fight was good. Now obviously a lot of people, I've seen a lot of boxers come out and say, you know, Tank lost that
Starting point is 01:02:00 fight. I think the fight was good. I think when I looked at the scorecard, I think maybe going into the round seven, maybe seven or eight, maybe seven. I think Tank was up on the scorecard for that matter. But Lamont Roach had always been good. He had always been good. And he had the right style. The styles make fights.
Starting point is 01:02:20 And Lamont Roach's style made that fight what it is. Yeah. He made what it is. Yeah. He made it what it is. It's uh. And he made no mistakes too, all night. Yeah, I mean look, Tang, Tang. Ain't no mistakes. Tang hit him with a couple of good shots.
Starting point is 01:02:35 A couple of clean ones. Yeah, but he ain't moved. Hey, and he started countering. Yeah, right away. He was countering right back. Right back. Right back. And you know the straight right through the guard, through a southpaw, because that's what Tank is, a southpaw fighter.
Starting point is 01:02:51 Yeah. Hey, that jab, hey, he kept him up off him. He didn't back down. And you know normally Tank starts slow, comes on. Yeah. Rose said, I'm here to stay. Yeah. He said, I'm here for a long time and a good time.
Starting point is 01:03:05 I ain't going nowhere. I'm not sure what kind of conditioning Lamont Rose did, but whatever it is, I salute him. Because everyone else at some point past round seven, you know, normally when fighting, fighting tank, they die down. Yeah. They die down. They volume of punching decreases, you know, well, everybody gets tired after round seven and on but But his condition was was up the part of they they they went they went to war all
Starting point is 01:03:32 12 rounds that was a really good. Yeah, but I Me I thought Roach won the fight I did. Oh Joe if they count that knockdown, yes. I thought even without the knockdown, I thought he won it. I thought he had, I mean, look, I know Tank laying the punches, but he was the more aggressive fighter. Yeah, I mean, being the aggressive fighter, did you see the scorecard though? You go to the punch.
Starting point is 01:04:01 Yeah, I saw it. They showed the scorecards. Yeah. So I mean, it's, it's, ah, it's tough. It's tough. Listen, a great fight from both fighters. Now, to me, fight next, I would like to see them rematch at some point.
Starting point is 01:04:20 I'm not sure if that's in the foreseeable future. I mean, it should be, obviously, if it was a draw. I would love to see Tank. What do the numbers say? The pay-per-view numbers are going to tell you if people want to see a rematch. Because if they came out and bought the fight, yeah, they'll get a rematch.
Starting point is 01:04:33 If it didn't do the numbers, don't you know? I think it did the numbers. I think it definitely did the numbers. I mean, listen, it's Tank. He's a draw. He's a draw. They coming to watch. They coming to watch. They coming to watch.
Starting point is 01:04:48 I mean, listen, I'm excited. I can't wait to see him fight Shakur. But everybody had a lot to say. Shakur had a lot to say. What's his name? Haynie had a lot to say. Bud had a lot to say. Oh, uh, Bud had a lot to say. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:05:07 But I think you do realize Ocho, what this does is that it gives fighters like air because everybody knows, uh, tank got power now. They're like, okay, I want to fight it. She could like, okay, let's make this fight happen. Right. He told me. Bud look, I want to fight him. Shakur's like, okay, let's make this fight happen. Right. He talking about, Bud look, Bud looking at Canelo. Bud ain't looking, Bud ain't looking to drop no weight.
Starting point is 01:05:30 He ain't nobody wanna, the only fight Bud can make is Canelo. Right. Now that's a big jump to go up three weight classes? Huge jump. That's huge. I mean, normally somebody go up a weight class, maybe two. Right.
Starting point is 01:05:48 Because, uh, uh, uh, Roy Jones. Yeah. Roy was super middle, but Roy was fighting at was fighting at a light heavy. So he went up from cruiser to, uh, uh, to heavy. Heavy. Yeah. But that's going to be a good one though. That's gonna be a good, I mean... But I just, I thought Tank, when you know you got to the middle round though, you got around like four and five and like, okay, here come Tank. Yeah. Here come Tank. Well, he steps on the gas after round four. He normally steps on the gas and comes forward.
Starting point is 01:06:22 Just in general. But also you gotta understand, at this level of elite boxing like that, you gotta be careful. Especially when you're exchanging. One shot, boy, you're gone. Yeah. Hey, listen, one shot and you're gone. So us as fans watching from the outside looking in,
Starting point is 01:06:39 you know, you want him to just get in there and just throw it just, but hey, it's a chess match, you gotta be careful. You make one mistake you going to sleep Mm-hmm, you going to sleep when I'm look guys what they do is they put put but see that's they could put they put punches together You know as you go up in weight class them the ones that turn the lights out with one fight now Still even at the smaller weight class they catch you with a punch you don't see they can turn your lights out yeah punches boys a wrap yeah they can't you throw in a punch you throw one in there and they get through quick or the one here to quit of the overhand that you don't see until it's too late
Starting point is 01:07:19 yeah yeah or the uppercut that you never see because it's coming from the blind spot blind spot so that's why you know you never see because it's coming from the blind spot. Blind spot. So that's why, you know, you look at Tyson. Tyson was always to the body. Pop. And he comes through. He coming through the guard. He coming through the guard. Tyson going bang the body, you know, it's going to come.
Starting point is 01:07:37 You know, it's coming. Stop it if you can. But it was it was it was a good fight, though, Joe. I mean, I don't normally pay pay for fights, but I say, you know what, let me see what's really going on. Because I know we're going to talk about it. I want to see Tank. I want to see Roach. Tank bet him a quarter of a mil that he's going to get him out there.
Starting point is 01:07:56 Roach said, no, you won't. So it's going to be interesting to see if they have a rematch. Yeah, they have to. But look, there's enough fighters in that class. You got Lomachenko, you got Shakur, you got Haney, you got Garcia, you got Tank, you got Roach. Come on, man. Make these damn fights happen. Stop ducking and dodging each other. What the f- They got some goombas coming up now. There's a whole card with T.O., Ryan Garcia and Devin
Starting point is 01:08:26 Haney coming up. Yeah. There's a whole card. No, they should be fighting each other. See, that's why people don't get the credit. Because you remember back in the 80s when they had the Four Kings? Oh yeah. Kearns, fault letter. He fault Hagler. He fault Dururan, Duran fought those guys. And then you've you've crouched the Fifth Horseman. You had Iran, Barclay, those guys fight.
Starting point is 01:08:49 Go back and look at the seventies. And you look at the heavyweights. When you had Norton, you had Frazier, you had Foreman, you had Ernie Shavers, you had all those guys, they fought. Right. These guys, I love Floyd, but I hate what Floyd did to the box the game of boxing because everybody's trying to protect that oath ain't nobody
Starting point is 01:09:10 want to take no chances because they feel they feel now if I take a chance I lose oh Joe my career that bro stop it but Floyd Floyd fought everybody he Floyd he fought everybody on his terms This is the point when you're winning like that You get to call your shot on your turn. Everybody ain't gonna be Floyd Even if you end up undefeated you not gonna be Floyd. Yeah, that's what they thinking I'm trying to think then all the fights like all the all the fights to obviously you want to see all the fighters fight each other But also they have to keep building it up to maximize the person which they can get. You can't just fight just to fight just because everybody wants to see you
Starting point is 01:09:50 fight. You got to wait, you got to build it up. You got to get some fights in, you got to create some type of chaos, some type of the goddamn turmoil. Lomashenko has done enough. Shakur Stevens has done enough that they should be able to get in the ring with Devante, with, uh,ontae, with Tame. Hey, it's not that easy though. It ain't that easy. I mean, the way you say it, you know, for us on the outside looking in like, forget it, make it happen. But the money got to be right. The money right, Ocho. The fact of the matter is, this is what guys do. Instead of taking a risk
Starting point is 01:10:23 at 20 million, they'd rather fight somebody that they know they can beat for 10. That's how they do it in Ocho. Yeah. People see what they're doing. That's why UFC has surpassed them because they know why they ain't let you dunk nobody. And they ain't got, and see, you got the WBA,
Starting point is 01:10:39 you got the Ring Magazine, the WBO, the IBF, you got all these unif- the sanctioning bodies. Right. You got too many bamps. Man, fight! What you getting the sport for? I mean just think about it, Ocho, if sports was really like that, you know what? You know, Ken says like, nah, we don't wanna play Philly. Y'all say somebody else do a Super Bowl. Hey, that's what these guys doing, they ducking.
Starting point is 01:11:13 I like you put it that way for, you gotta understand. But at that level, at the elite level, you have to be careful, you have to build your resume. That you wanna maximize the type of- You don't think so Lopez don't have the resume to be able to fight Tane? Torfeeva? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, so what you saying build a resume? So he don't have a resume right now that's impeccable enough to fight him?
Starting point is 01:11:38 What about Cicero Stevens? His record ain't good enough? But again, we talk about purse, you got to think about how they thinking. They thinking about that bag. They thinking about that money. I don't want to fight you right now because financially it doesn't make sense. It doesn't. It doesn't. No, all I'm saying is, man, you got to fight.
Starting point is 01:11:58 What people loved about Sugar Ray. This is why boxers today don't get the love and the adulation that the old guys cut they fall Oh Joe Yeah, for for for no for no money. Yeah They are prize fighters, that's what they are yes We can we can want them to fight as much as you want, but I'm telling you would it come down to What is my purse looking like? Ocho, your purse looking like because you not fight nobody.
Starting point is 01:12:29 They not getting no one million dollar, they not getting a million buys. They not getting 1.5 million buys like Floyd. So stop trying to think that you gonna be Floyd. Oh, I see what you mean, yeah, yeah. Well, you ain't gonna never be that. Cause everybody was tuning in to watch Floyd lose. There's a difference, that's how I even got to that point
Starting point is 01:12:46 But but look at Tyson. I mean go back to go back and look at those guys those guys fall You got a fight you'll try to end of day you got a fight you got a fight I want you to get your money, but you ain't nobody gonna be tuning in to watch you watch you bop somebody They want to see you they want to see Lopez and Shakur They want to see a tank and Shakur or Lopez. Evan Haney, Ryan Garcia. Yeah, they want to see fights like that. All those are great matches. But again,
Starting point is 01:13:19 Where is it so hard? I say I see some people in the chat complaining and start making excuses. Why is it so hard to get fights? Why you think people don't want to send contracts? And when they do send a contract, they look at it and be like, I ain't fucking signing that shit. You ain't even paying me. It all comes down to one thing at the end of the goddamn day, no matter what y'all say in the chat.
Starting point is 01:13:36 I ain't making no excuses. The purse ain't where it need to be. Why the purse isn't where it need to be? Because they don't want to see them jokers fight nobody. They want to see them fight the best and the person be there. I'm not paying you no 25 million to fight some guy that got that's 13 and 5 and you 27 and 0. How you think we would not hold Sugar Ray in the regard has Sugar Ray not fought who he fought? He fought Benitez, he fought Hagler, he fought Hearns, he fought Durant. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:14:17 I mean, it's different. Hearns fought, Hearns, Hagler, they fought. You talk about the eighties, the Four Kings. Yeah. The best in the world. Go back and look at the seventies and look at those guys. They fought.
Starting point is 01:14:32 Yeah. Foreman, Ali, Frazier, Norton, Shavers. What's the other guy? There's another guy that George Foreman just went and they went like eight rounds, but they were just, it wasn't, it wasn't aesthetically pleasing. Yeah. But Ocho, they were throwing atomic bombs. Yeah, they's in there trying to kill each other.
Starting point is 01:14:57 Yes! Trying to kill each other. Yes! I'm speaking, you got to think about it too now. When I'm sitting here talking, I'm listening to people in the chat, but then you got to think about, I'm in camp with some of these folks man I'm listening to the conversations I'm in there literally you know why certain fights are getting made I'm in there with Boots I've been in
Starting point is 01:15:16 there with Kayla Plant been in VDs I've been in the camp with Tank the same I have been in the camp with Shakur. The same, I'd have been in the can with Shakur. It's the same conversation, the same thing over and over. So when I'm saying stuff like this, people say I'm making, no, I'm not making excuses. I'm sitting there listening with my own two ears. I'm listening to what the issues are. Well, we can't make this fight
Starting point is 01:15:38 because the money ain't what it should be. And why am I getting in risking myself or risking the L or O or whatever it may be for every case? But it's because you in the fight game. Why get in the fight game every time you step in the ring There's a chance chance. Oh, there's always a punch is champ, but I'm still telling you what it is I'm just saying I'm just saying Look here until they start that and that's why people that people don't stop watching. You gotta go all the way, uh, uh, the Saudis, uh, uh, uh, they try to make, they make fights in Saudi and in Dubai. Because the Jogawar fight over here. Fight!
Starting point is 01:16:15 Mm. It's so funny, I see people in the chat talking about me lying. I mean, it's well documented. Everything I'm saying, all you gotta do is just type it in it's there But anyway, anywho, it's all good Man, I just a I just want to see a fight. I just want to see good fights Give me a man. Hey, oh Joe man. You look I don't been the prize fight. Ain't I like it? No. Oh man They have a no, I mean when the last time we had a book I mean we got to go back to to with blood for Earl Smith Jr.
Starting point is 01:16:47 Woo, that was nice. Yes. Hey, that was nice. I remember going to see Tyson fight. Ain't nothing like a heavyweight now. Oh, no. Big time. Boy, Tyson back at his prime. Everybody came out.
Starting point is 01:17:01 The world stopped. You hear me? But you better not go to the bathroom or get concession. Because if you're gonna be talking about the bride, you're gonna want your ass back to your seat. You're gonna miss the fight. Oh, you missed it. You just spent 10 grand for nothing. Oh yeah, but I wanna see these guys fight.
Starting point is 01:17:17 I think the champ wanna see them fight too. The Volume. Make some noise for the greatest shooter of all time, Steph Curry. We went live from All-Star Weekend for a new podcast called GOAT, Greatest of Their Era, and we ranked our top five shooters from the 2000s. Asia Five, Dirt Four. Asia is a lead.
