And the LD was like, man, y'all do that shit after fucking practice, man, y'all don't do that shit during. We was running our offense. Boom, fast breakhead coming back down. No one wanted to shoot that bitch. Everybody kept swinging and swinging to somebody shoot it. Tipped the owl, out tip it back to me, bull. You owe $300.

Hey, hey, they were great times, bro. You know, I always tell people that Atlanta team, especially when we got you bill, when we got Jamal Crawford, But, hey, man, you boy with something else, man. You boy with something out. Like I said, like coming there, I had to play a different role. You know, I was with everybody.

You know, Josh coming out of high school, we had Marvin was young, chills. I mean, even playing with you, Joe, like you were like, you and me were the only people that really had playoff experience. So coming there, I knew my role was going to change. You know, I was playing with the guys. Even when I got traded there, I was like, damn, man, I don't want to go to Atlanta. And then all of a sudden. I was like, shit, okay, this is a good spot for me to be

because I kind of, I always tell people I play the Vladi Divac role coming there. You know, I mean, like trying to bring everybody together. I know I knew my time was coming to a close soon, and I just tried to bring everybody together. I remember taking everybody to the mall, and I made that rule. Remember I made that rule that said, whoever was with us at that time, making the most money got to pay for dinner.

Oh, that shit cut down so quick. The first day Joe was there. you know, Joe was making the most money. So after that, Joe paid the first time. I didn't see Joe again. And it started trickling now. Smooth was gone. The next thing you know was me, Mario West.

And somebody else, y'all motherfuckers left me with the bill. So I was spitting the bill now with two other guys. Hey, hey, when y'all think about those times, you know, Bill, before we traded for you to come to the Hawks, bro, you know, me being a huge fan of your game, obviously, Arizona. everything that you did in Sacramento. When you think about those Sacramento teams that you played on, bro, early in your career, what you think made those teams so special?

I mean, obviously the chemistry y'all had and, you know, the high IQ for the game, the way y'all passed the ball, the way y'all made the game easier for one another. What do you think? What was so special about those teams? We genuinely liked each other. You know what I mean? So that's why.

That's why I tried to bring when I came to Atlanta. I like even like we'd gamble on the plane, you know, we're fucking around on the plane. We'll, you know, go to dinner and stuff like that. I just wanted to make sure everybody would hang out with each other and really liked each other. You know, like us going to the mall. Like, come on, everybody put your shit down. Let's go to the mall. We go hang out, everybody just shoot the shit in a little bit.

But that was the thing, like, we competed, though. Like, when practice, that second squad that we used to have, like Scott Pollard, Bobby Jackson, Hito Turkleude, they used to beat our ass in practice. I mean. And so that used to get us ready as far as like, okay, shit, we know that like once, if we don't start our good with Howard plays, we knew where was the alpha dog on the team. We just knew coming in, like, we just had to make sure we show up when he needed us. Yeah, hey, man, it was fun watching you guys.

It was fun playing against y'all. I never forget, bro. I mean, from C Webb to Vladi Dvots to Doug Christie, those guys were hell of a passers and IQ through the roof. And then you add you to that mix, bro. Y'all was just a hell of a team. Think about those legendary kings versus Lakers battles. Tell us a little bit about those battles, bro. Knowing, hey, hey, knowing what we know now,

you know what I'm saying, smooth, knowing the history of the game, y'all may have been robbed a little bit. A little bit. Do you honestly, hold, hold, hold on. Do you honestly think it was real? Hell, yeah. You seen that shit? Man, look, that's a whole, that could change my hole.

You know, that was everything to me to see great, great basketball like that played at the highest level. Just to be a part of that.

I think Shaq's the biggest, the best big man that ever played the game. You know, Kobe is top two for me. Just to be in those battles and going to L.A. and seeing all those movie stars and the guys that you look up to in the movies coming and cheering against you knowing we had them beat.

I mean, I couldn't ask for nothing else, man. But, like, I'm going to pump you guys up a little bit too. You know what I mean? Coming to you guys, I mean, it was probably the easiest games that I have had to play. You know what I mean? Like, they always talk about my defense,

I mean, even with smooth, so I mean, like, even playing with you guys, man, it kind of changed my game to us like, you know, I looked up and like Atlanta was, like, Atlanta was, like, Atlanta and Sacramento is the two best places that I've been,

the two best teams that I've played on. You know, like I still talk to you guys. I still, you know, talk to Jamal when I see him. I saw A.C. Law a couple weekends ago. Hold on. Hold on. That's saying a lot, bro. You play, you play with the heat with DeWay and Brun. You went to New York.

Look, man. You giving us love like that, bro? I mean, that's the, I mean, being there and being with you guys, like, the most fun I had, like, as far as being on the court and playing basketball, like, that's the way I wanted to play. I got out, I was just all fast. break. I mean, I could look at the highlights of me and Smooth. I was throwing that bitch from anywhere. I just took it. Just throwing that shit up. I was going to get it. And like playing

Hold on, hold on. So, so right before the game, right before the ball. I was about the sign. Start line up probably by the last five to six minutes.

And me and him sat there and chopped it up for probably about 10 minutes. it was a game. I can't remember what game it was. And I hadn't seen him since, bro. And then when I heard the news, I was like, damn. And it took me back to all those memories we had on the plane, the bus rides. Because at the end of the day, y'all know, bro, once we stop playing professional,

that's the one thing that you really missed, that camaraderie that you have with a cat, me, Josh, you know, that were we talking on the plane, the bus playing cards. And it just made me think back how, man, life is short, bro. But Big Jay was a great dude, man. Real quiet, but who gave him the name Big RV? I think you did. You gave everybody nickname, bro. having a guy, like, we kept five years, we kept five kids this past year. year from the last team and just to show that just the extra year with us is life changing man like you like you get kids that want to transfer out now after one year and it's hard when you're bringing you know last year we have 15 new guys and it was like trying to put all these 15 guys together and try to put all these attitudes and the mindset together it's tough man it's not it's not the same as when we're growing up to where you know my main goal is to get to the NBA these kids are bypassing college

or bypassing NBA now to stay in college. Hey, so let me ask you this. So has it changed since you've been coaching, has it changed the way you've looked at the game of basketball or how you're perceiving now? Because it's played totally different now Big, because think about it. When you came into

the league, bro, in 90, what was it? Damn, 98. Listen, think about it. Biggs 1, shoot, 3s. If you playing with, if you playing with Web and Divas, hell, they ain't never shot no three in their life. You know what I mean?

Maybe Webb later in his career when he really, but nowadays, hell, if you can't shoot the three, you can't play. You can't play. I mean, there's a lot of people. I mean, like, you got to have, like, in college, you've got to have at least one big guy that could play in the post with a rebound to where he could cause double team still. But, like, when I was playing, it was inside out.

You know what I mean? I was on my team, my team, I was the third, I was a third threat because I had Sharif with his back to the basket, country with his back to the basket, and hopefully they get double team and pass it out to me where I can make something happen. But see, I mean, but that's the way it was back there.

You know, it's changing now where you get one guy now, but now everybody just wants to shoot threes. And, I mean, the game's changed, but that's where it is. Like, I don't know how it is for you smooth, but being at that, being at the high school level, I was there for a few years.

But, I mean, coming to NIL now, I think if NIL was there when I was playing, I probably wouldn't have made it where I was at today because everybody coming in, like we have GMs, but I deal with those guys in the money and figure if they're worthy of the money that they get because, I mean, you look at these guys, these guys are averaging two and two,

and we start at 750,000. You know what I mean? You're having two and two. And I mean, it just, you know what I mean? So, hey, so does it take the loyalty out the game now, meaning, you know, back when we was in school, Bibb, you couldn't just transfer and go play right away. Now, hell, you know, they change.

in teams like they change their draws. Five teams and five years. I mean, how, how, how as a coach? I mean, how do you police a guy now? How do you stay on the guy? How do you hold him accountable without him feeling away and be like, man, you know what bill tripping? I'm going to go over here to Tennessee or Arkansas. But my thing is, like, we're a smaller school, Joe, so it's kind of like I want these

guys to move on. You know what I mean? We don't have the six, seven million dollars for you to play here. As much as I, as what, I mean, it's going to look good. on me if we develop you and get you to those schools, it's going to look good on our staff. It's going to look good on me. But my thing is, like, you know, coming to a place like us, we're smaller. We don't have as much money as the other schools.

So my thing is, you know, get you a year or two here, you know, smooth. I talk to you about it too as well. Get you a year here instead of going to like another prep school or something like that. Get you a year at SAG State or and work your way up. Now you get played there for a year or two. now you show these guys like, hey, look, I developed, I can do this, and now I'm at that level. And I'm going to push these guys to that next level to where it's like,

go make your money. It's all about money. Go make your money. I had this one kid that wanted to come back to school. I'm not going to say his name. I wanted to come back to school, loving the death. But it'll be selfish for me to try to keep them. You know what I mean?

But the money in college is outrageous right now. It would be more than what he's making in pro. So, I mean, I want these kids to be pro. I want them to fulfill their dream. want them to go be pros. Hey, is that something, is it like, is that like, what's one of the biggest lessons you try to get these young guys, bro? Who probably, look, look, because when they get to you, Bill,

some of them probably, I already think they got to figure it out. You know what I mean? What's one of the biggest lessons you just work hard, man, like this shit, the shit ain't promised to you. No, like, I just saw somebody I saw Stack talking about today, 1% make the NBA. You know what I mean? It's not going to be, right.

It's not going to be for everybody. And everybody thinks that they're going to make it. and it's not necessarily going to have that, especially if you don't put the work in. You got, Doc, go ahead. And think about it. Smooth, think about this. Bro, it's only 450 players in the NBA every year.

Not just this year, not just last year, you know what I mean? So you got to understand, bro, just as much as we geeked about, you know, the top prospects that's coming into the NBA now, hell, there's got to be some leaving. Sure. You know what I mean? So I think, I think it's so prestige, bro, because you're right, Bibb. It's only a 1% of us, bro. Think about the millions of people who want to play in the NBA.

And hell, it ain't been but like 5,000 people ever. So to even be in that conversation, to even be in that fraternity, bro, it's a blessing. And the shit ain't easy. Like, the people that look at all the glamour, the shit ain't easy. I work my ass off. You know what I mean? Like, I ain't, I ain't playing with you, Joe. I was sitting there shooting shots in a gym that had two baskets in airplane.

pickup and I'm shooting my shots in between them. You know what I'm? So I'm there for four or five hours just getting shots up. You know what I mean? Hey, so you do shooting games, you play one-on-one with them with? That's what you got to be at to try to do. You know, I saw, I got, I got a glove son with me, right? So I, I, like, oh, you got gloves, son with us. It's the second year with us.

So he, I got it, I have to get on the court because we had a lot of injuries last year. So I got on the court, you know, I'm out there just, you know, I'm out there. I'm out there. You know what I mean? So I'm almost 50 years old. So he got the ball. We're playing.

It was like a three-on-three break coming back, right? So I seen his eyes light up, right? He's talking about, he clearing out. He's going to, he started coming at me full speed. I said, yeah, come on. He went up, I found the shit out of him. I said, I called the team in. I said, look, I'm out here.

Don't mean y'all just start attacking me, okay? I'm out here just trying to fill a body. I'm a foul the shit out y'all. Y'all come at me. I'm going to let y'all. know that right now. We ain't doing that. We ain't doing that shit in here. Hey, hey, hey, you think, you think kids nowadays appreciate the fundamentals of the game, bro. You know, think about this, Bib, smooth. When we were coming up, guys one step back and side stepping your role, it wasn't

none of that. It was basic basketball. You may have had a little flared of your game, but we practiced the fundamentals. Not only did we practice it, we mastered the fundamentals here. I know me, me coming up, like the first thing I could do was handle the rock, you know, knowing how to play the game, playing the right way. I never got into it to where I was just a guy who you go recruit and give him 300 grand to play with it, play with us in this tournament. You know what I mean? Do y'all think, do y'all think the fundamentals is gone from today's game?

Go ahead, smooth. Yeah, absolutely. Guys want to be skill-based, but this is what I was talking about a few days ago, about guys wanting to skip steps. You know what I'm saying? I mean, I didn't automatically jump off the portion on how to do all kind of stuff. I had to really put the work in in the gym

in order to kind of like, first of all, we didn't have trainers growing up. So we play, like we was like you said, you were shooting in between, like Bibb, you said you were shooting in between guys running up and down, grown men running up and down. You just trying to get your shots up in between it. And that's just like we played,

we grew up with an match. You know what I'm saying? And we cater to the imagination of what we wanted to do as far as basketball. We watched the game of basketball. A lot of these guys don't even watch the game. That's why you see a lot of these kids making the wrong decision when it comes to going to colleges because they're just picking these names because that's what they dreamed of and heard, but they're not watching like, how are they catering to my position?

Right. saying like how does this school really catering to the position that's going to help me get to the next level whatever I want to get to as far as basketball but they definitely skip steps a lot it's a lot of it's a lot of it's a lot of guys that are you know every time I every time I go out there with my son or he's training with somebody there I'm like look man before you do anything get your form shots up yeah same because you know that's that's 70 max right there if you just do it that's how we start practice every day smooth with form shots It's 54 and size.

Yeah. Absolutely. And then, yeah, you know, people take, you know, when we do have practice, you know, I'm three-man weaving, I'm three on two, two-on-one. Yeah, yeah. Like, guys got to know how to convert in those situations during the game, but how do you know if the coach is not really catering to that

and their cadence of whatever the player wants because they're afraid the players going to leave? Right, right. Right. I think that's the hardest thing to juggle nowadays, bro. Yeah, for sure. I mean, so it's, I think it's hard being a coach Bibb, and, you know, I ain't going to lie, and I enjoy seeing you over there.

And I know them kids, boy, they're giving you. I know they're giving you everything, you get what I mean? But if you could get one piece of advice that every young point guard, currently, you know, chasing their NBA dream, man, I want to make it to the NBA. What advice would be. Just work hard, man. Like, my thing is, like, you could be the greatest in the world. But if you don't put that work in, it ain't going to, it's not, nothing's going to come

to play. Like, you got guys that are. working at their craft. They're pros now. These college kids are pros now. We pay you to play. This should be nothing else that you're doing besides being in the gym. And that's the biggest thing that got me over the hump.

When I was in high school, I was the number one point guard in the country. And in high school, I really didn't really do much. Like I played at the park. Like, I played. There was no work. I didn't do no workouts. That's what we all did. I did no workouts.

Like, there was no workouts. Hold on. Hold on, call on, hold on, and we're going to get you out of here in a few minutes, but you say you played, your dad played in the NBA. You know what I mean? You was around the game as a kid. Like you say growing up, all we did was play. We didn't have trainers, bro.

Like, how did you keep that motivation to continue to play? Like, man, I'm going to make a name for myself. I know I'm Michael Henry Bibby. Yeah. Yeah. Now, think about that because I always wonder, bro, and I kind of watch from admiration as far as guys who play in the NBA and their kids happen to make it.

And, you know, whether it's past what they've done or just making it alone. I know it's tough, bro, because you've got to have a different type of mentality. Yeah, my thing was different. Like, I grew up a little bit without my dad. My dad wasn't really around. So, like, he was coaches stuff. Everybody used to, like, Henry Baby's son, he wasn't really around. He was out coaches.

So he was in Venezuela, Puerto Rico. So he was out there coaching. as I was growing up. So, like, he saw me play one game in high school. I still think they gave him the Southern California job to try to get me. You know what I mean? Because he came to me.

He's like, yeah, you want to play for your dad. You come average 40 over here. I'm like, man, I'm going to Arizona. So, I mean. Damn, you tell, hold on. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. So just like on he got game when Denzel Washington got out to get Ray Allen. Hold on, man.

You went against Pops. Yeah, I had to. You said, damn that. Damn that, Pops. I'm going over that. Arizona, man. I mean, because I knew what Arizona did for the guards.

They put guards in the NBA. My goal was being the NBA. I never, out of USC, I really didn't know any guys that went to the league like that. So I was with Arizona. I mean, Damon Stoddard,

my Sean Elliott, Khalid Rees, Steve Kerr. I mean, it was just going all the way down the line. I was like, okay, Coach Olson is a mastermind. I want to go be there and be close to. My main thing is I want to be close to home,

man. I was an hour, 15 minute drive, and I could drive home on the weekend. And I was cool. that. All right, one more question. We're going to get you out of here.

Yeah, y'all play your older guys as well. So y'all know what it is to be able to play basketball at a high level at an efficient level. And I think Russ has hit that status now to where he just, you know, going. He ain't Russ of 25 years old. And Russ is one of the greatest dudes I've ever met in my life. He is, dude. All the stories about him being a great teammate. I haven't been his teammate, but I know him and been around him a lot.

So that's a great dude. I think him walking into that locker room right now with a common goal of trying to get to a championship and win at this stage, especially older. I think it's a great place for him. Because they've been put a point guard for a long time. So you find Russ, and if Russ is cool with coming off the bench, I don't think you can get a better backup point guard than that. Yeah, no.

I mean, think about this. You know, you think about all the great times that they had in O KC, and obviously they came up short, being up 3-1 against their Warriors team and then Katie goes and join. Man, they have to think about those times and be like, what if? You know what I mean? What if we would have stayed together here? We probably would at least got one.

You feel me? So I wouldn't mind seeing Westbrook team back over Katie and Houston, bro. I think he'll bring them a totally different dynamic at that point guard position because guess what? You know what you're going to get from him every night. He's going to play hard as I don't know what. He's going to defend, you know what I'm saying? And he understands playmaking.

You know what I mean? Katie ain't had one. Boom, let me find a big fella. Let him get him an easy one. You know what I'm saying? Dump down to the other big fella. You know, I think he makes the game easy for everybody. He just got to keep his turnovers down.

If we're keeping it 100. I think them having, what's the name back, Fred back, will make that easier for Russ. Russ can play with on the ball, off the ball, him coming off the bench behind Fred. I think that's a great spot. I think that's a great spot for Russ. Russ can play basketball in that system. And like I said, man, we all older.

Russ is older now. He don't care about all the other shit that he, that was going on when he was young. Right now it's about winning and playing basketball the right way. It is, bro. Check this out, though. One NBA scout told Ira Winderman that he wouldn't touch for Asian Russell Westbrook in a million years. Yeah, he'll have you in great games, sure, but he can't shoot. He plays his own way. He's not going to fit into a system. He doesn't really defend, which I think, what I think about him saying that? He said that one. It's different. Yeah, uh, this guy,

He said, I mean, yeah, he'll put up some numbers and he'll win you some games in terms of truly building winning team. You don't get him on your team. I think that's false. I agree with what we're talking about. If I'm the Houston Rockies, bro, I'm taking that gamble.

I'm taking that gamble. Because look, think about this. Even if Fred Van Fleet, I'm sure he will start the season. But damn, he just come off of ACL surgery. going to run him in the ground for 82 games and what are you going to be able to get you in the postseason nothing so you got to have some depth at that point guard position guys who know how to play guys who know who know and understand the game and who can make the game easy for the guys around him so i always think bro and when you look at him because he up and age move and pargo

he always in great damn shape and for me y'all know me bro i'm a guy who loves a guy in great shape you're in great shape you can play with me any day hey man i'm giving that a chance i ain't I don't lie to you. You've got to give it a chance because I think he's talking about the young Russell Westbrook that had his own team. That Russell Westbrook, if he's still thinking that way, then I can agree with him. But I guarantee you Russ ain't thinking that way. This man is shown he's willing to change.

He's coming off the bench, bro. This is a Hall of Fame. Later in his career that's coming off the bench and he's okay with it, how do you hear people say how much of a great teammate and a great person is? And you put that on that man name at 30, what's for us, 38, 37? Yeah, yeah. You put that on a stage's career. Don't do it.

And it's a real true testament smooth and pargo that his love and passion for the game, bro. You know what I mean? Because at some point, you know, you keep hearing these stories about yourself, people saying, creating these false narratives, man, you'll throw your hands up. Like, man, damn all this.

I'm going to move around. But he continued to fight and work for his spot, bro. So he got the utmost respect. I got a question, smooth. What's the beef everybody got with Westbrook, bro? Why everybody be down with Russ all the time or talking down on him, bro? What's up with the disrespect?

Is he the most... Okay, I ask you this. Is he the most disrespected guy of all times? I think so. Because he, in my eyes, he's the top five point guard of all time. Man. But what point guards, you know that an average triple double in multiple seasons?

You know what I'm saying? That's hard to do. Hey. And then I think, I think what it is is people don't like his demeanor, but how you want, how you want a player or point guard to play at that position, you know what I'm saying? You want to, you want a dog with a little, with some swagger at that position. Yeah. I think he's the most understood basketball player of all time, too.

You know what I'm saying? I think, uh, he does a great job at being a family man, a husband. You know what he's doing with his kids, what he's doing for his community. Yeah. I don't know why, man. I mean, it's kind of crazy to me to see the hate when you have all of those things going on on a positive note about yourself. But I don't think people like how he answers questions to the media. You know what I'm saying?

It's mostly you got to think about it. It's mostly the media that tries to paint bad pictures on him. It's not really guys that really know. no basketball, like, you know, basketball players or like Pargo said, teammates that play with him or guys that just cross paths with him and just got, just got a, you know, a dose of who he is as a person and his character. So I don't think that, you know, the media paints a great picture of him, but at the same time, they have to have something to say in order to,

it's like clickbait, you know what I'm saying, at the end of the day. So it's like, it's a narrative that they painted on them. So it's like, why not keep saying it if I'm another reporter, you know what I mean? Right, right. It's just, it's just like Skip Bayless back in the day, making his, making his career out for bashing LeBron James. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. Hey, because once that narrative is created and put out there, the damage is done already. You know what I mean? Whether it's true or false, you know what I mean? People are going to kind of run with it. So I get what you're saying. I get what you saying. Jeremy, what you think, bro?

Why everybody be hating on Wizbrook, bro? It's got to be something from back in the day, man, when Russ was the guy where, you know, when you're the guy, you have a lot more leeway to do what you want, say what you want. Yeah. And they continue to put that on them. But that man doesn't deserve it.

That man has literally changed his entire career because it's been guys in the past that's fought about coming off the bench and not want to do this. That man has put his head down and say, I'm going to Sacramento. I'm going to come off the bench. I'm going to play for the clippers. I'm going to come off the bitch and do what I can't help the team win. You can see how he is with young guys. He's helping young guys come along. He's great for your franchise at this point. He's not a problem. So I don't understand why people

try and pick on him and put that on him. And I am a Westbrook advocate right now. I'm a big fan of what Russ does, especially at this stage of his career, because he's completely changed his game to fit any system in the NBA, any team he can fit because he's not going to do too much.
