The league is doing away with the annual All-Star game beginning this season. instead of opting to name 88 players to the Pro Bowl with no replacement selections and honor them with a celebration. The NFL revealed the change Wednesday in a press release noting that the Pro Bowlers will be invited to an in-person celebration in Los Angeles the weekend when the Pro Bowl games would be traditionally held. Ocho, are they making the right decision?

I mean, obviously I think they are. I think the creative minds on that end. they need to put them put their minds together and find something else for the players to do to incentivize them to actually take it serious it's gotten so bad unc they don't even wear pads for the pro bowl no more they turn it into flag football because the players don't want to compete they they don't they don't I mean it's so different onk from the time Joe when me and unc went to the pro bowl during those times we actually played for real we played for real they just they might have on flags and obviously to turn into a flag football game and it's just wait the NFL are just wasting money. It is just wasting money. They realize at this point. That's why they cut it out. Yeah, they cut it out. But how many, how are you going to incentivize the players to come to a ceremony in LA when they, they're not, they maybe, maybe they treat it like an awards banquet. Hmm.

And the boys ain't going. All I'm saying is I get, if you don't want to come, don't come. But, but Ocho, they was getting down to the 10th ultimate guys with 10 interceptions, guys that, the guys that, the guys that only start. started one game because everybody else would go. I can understand the first or second ultimate because what happened was you started taking started playing the Pro Bowl the week before the Super Bowl. The guy that's in the Super Bowl, they're not going to be able to play in the Pro Bowl. So I understand that there are players of each team that made the Super Bowl that's not going

to be able to make the Pro Bowl. So you needed an alternate for that. But also, when you started getting out there to a guy that started three games and he's in the pro bowl and you get guys that got 10 interceptions guys and he's in the pro bowl. Nah, do away. We let it go. Because they don't take it. They're telling you, they've been told you they don't take this game serious.

They told about the preseason. I fought the team owners. Y'all are the one that they started this foolishness with the preseason, not playing in the preseason. You think they're going to take, if they're not going to play in a preseason game that's leading to the regular season, you think they're going to take something serious. At the end of the season. Man, stop. Yeah. And it's different to,

when we went to the Pro Bowl, when you got selected, Joe, it meant some. It did. It absolutely did. It actually meant some. We going to Hawaii. I don't care where you from.

You flying eight, nine, ten hours. That's a real trip. That's a real honor to make the Pro Bowl back then, you know? And just, listen, you make the Pro Bowl now, you go to Orlando.

That's right down the street. Yeah, Los Vegas. Hey. Come on, that ain't no trip. It's different. It's different. want to go, Joe. Go ahead. The league eventually looked at this entire thing,

Uncle Ocho, and was like, man, we got to stop pretending this a damn event. You know what I mean? I think now the focus and the honor of being selected, which honestly makes more sense to me. Being a pro bowler still means something. You know what I mean? You know, I just don't think, you know, watching these pro bowlers basically a glorified recess of football, you know what I mean? Because ain't a, because think about it. Like you say, man, ain't nobody. really taking the series now all of a sudden everybody got mysterious uh personal commitments and illnesses i'm like come on man so if you don't take it serious i just think if the NFL was like

look the pro bowl didn't die today the NFL just simply i want to say unplug the machine they buried it today it's been dead joe yep yeah yeah it's been dead it was a life support that's why i'm saying they unplugged the machine that was beeping for years bro that was it Yep. You're right. They took it off. They took it off. And the thing was that they tried to talk to him.

It's like, look, we're going to cancel this. We're going to cancel this. We're going to cancel this. And guys used to, I mean, for the most part, Ocho, guys, with the exception of the quarterback, even the quarterbacks would go. Brent Farr would go. Peyton Manning State in the Pro Bowl.

Guys would really go. Elway and Marino and Montana and those guys would go. Occasionally they'd miss. But not every year. No, no, no. And it used to, and guys, you, bro, look here. There are many times, don't you. I was the first alternate three times and didn't get to go once.

Because guys didn't pull out. No. Paul. Guys. Guys, Joe, guys actually win. It wasn't no guys to my, hey, I ain't got to do it. Because that was an opportunity for them. And sometimes they had it in a contract.

They had to go play in order for them to get the incentive that was in the contract. So I'm not going to go let somebody. I'm not going to, I've made this, I got this honor and then all of a sudden not go because the teams wouldn't give them the money. So they had to go. And plus it was an opportunity for them to take the wives that's been in the, the significant other that's been in their corner all year long. It's had to put up with a lot with your bulljad, would you, you know, you moody. Yeah. Games ain't go your way.

You got late studies and all this. all that and get the family, their family, your family over there for a nice relaxing time. That's the way it used to be. And then something happened. I don't know exactly the time. But I just remember watching it. I say, man, these guys playing two hand touch. Yeah.

They play it too. I said, come on. I say, nah. I understand. You don't, you didn't play it. The only time, like the last, the last five minutes or six minutes of the ball game, it's a close ball game. Oh, buckle your chance grab.

Hey, Joe. Hey, we're going. Guys were coming. Joe, guys start coming in. DT and Tess and all those guys. Now they turn it up. And then now these guys started like that for the first from the snap. They play a two hand touch. I said, man, it's just a matter of time.

I said the NFL ain't going to put it with this much longer. They put up, and I will say this. And I'm going to turn it back over you, Ocho. The NFL. put up with it longer than they thought they would. I thought they would. Considering spending all that money, sending them over there. That's a lot of money to send that many people,

to send a whole NFL staff, take down an entire hotel, all those first class, because you get two first class tickets. I know the airlines upset about it, but I'm just like, bro, I just don't, I just don't get what you. I don't, I don't get it. And maybe some things outside of the game, that probably one of the most, the funnest part for me, me to watch during the Pro Bowl was, you know, bring back the position challenges, you know,

the fastest man, the strongest man, the strongest, the strongest, all, et cetera, things of that. So, like, I enjoy watching those type of competitions, Uncle Ocho. Now, I get it, the guys don't really take the Pro Bowl seriously, but at the same time, I still, you know, I love watching the environment. I love the camaraderie watching the greats play against, you know, the best play against the best that's in the NFL at the time. And you're taking all that away, too? Like, I mean, those were some of the most,

those iconic, you know, situations, bro. The NFL fastest man, a lot of the quarterback stuff, that was the quarterback, that was the quarterback club. When they were throwing the ball and they did the option of course and doing certain stuff, things like that. That was the quarterback club. They put that on separately. The quarterback club was different than the,

than the players association. They had their own thing. And then they started stealing certain players. like an Emmett Smith, like a Bruce Smith. It started stealing some of the high profile players that weren't quarterbacks. And then the Players Association ended up buying the quarterback club.

So, yeah, I remember what they need to have. You know what they used to have, I don't know if y'all remember this, the superstars. Used to come on ABC, where it took athletes from different genres, they'd race them, they'd have a bicycle race, they'd have a swimming race. Y'all don't remember when Joe,

They got some of the best, they got the best French toast that I've had. And I was going to that place that you've gone to in Montreal. I have had the Ielani because obviously my group, my year was the first year that we actually stayed because we used to stay in the Hillton, Hawaiian Village. But the NFL thought that was because people could just walk up. That was just a public place. And the NFL's like, you know what, no, we got too many high profile athletes over here. And the guys really stopped coming in because guys couldn't get no rest.

They couldn't be with their family because they're trying to lay on the beach. And people coming up to them wanting to take pictures. And so the NFL decided this to get something a little bit more private. And so we went a little further to the Iolani. So that was the first year. That was 93. But the Beverly Wilshire, as far as French toast. Hey.

Starting with this season, the NFL will focus on focus discipline on on field rules violation that are most likely to result in injuries to players, hip drop tackle, horse collar tackle,

launching to hit a defensive player and a blind side block. Any players who commit three, these five offensive rules during the season will receive a one game suspension. Any, you heard what I said, don't you? Starting this season, if you get called for a hip drop, a horse tackle launching, hit on a defensive player or a blind side block, a defenseless player. So you launch, you hit a defenseless player or a blindside block. You commit any of these. So, hold on, any player who commits three of these five. So which one, the hip drop horse collar and the defenseless or the blindside block?

Or do you have to commit all three of them during the course of the season? Hey, that's tough, huh? That's tough. The fact that they're even implementing this in the way the game is now, I don't want to call the game watered down as opposed to player safety, which is the main part of under the umbrella of what they what they we know why the rules are why they're as tough as tough as they are but defenses are already handicapped and implement this even further makes it that much more difficult for for teams and players especially those

that may be aggressive for them to actually play football to play the game of football that we all love that we grew up watching and obviously it's a good thing they say it's for player safety yes but it's it's also for protection checking the shield, you know, 10, 15 years down the line. So if I hold the Joe before you go, if I'm reading this correctly, so a hip drop tackle, horse collar tackle, launching hit on a defensive player, a blind side block. I guess if you get three of these five during the course of a year, it's a one game suspension.

So if I get one, if I get one of these in week one, get another one at week five, get another one in week seven. So your third offense, you got to see the game. That's correct. Hey. If I'm understanding the rules correctly, go ahead, Joe. You're making the game, S-O-F capital T. Y'all know it. Ocho, no, he ain't going to say it. Hey, I ain't going to lie, though.

A damn hip-drop tackle? I'd say he take a lot of cats out, boy. I see you take a lot of cats out. My thing is you're taking away a lot of the physicality from football, bro. You know what I mean? The fact that you're telling defenders that they can't actually play the game full speed at free will without having to think, now you got people thinking trying to make tackles, somebody's hurting himself. Somebody's going to end up hurting himself because there's no way you can change the way

you've been playing a certain game for so long. The only one of the problems is everybody's bigger, fast, and stronger. Not only that, now you're telling me I can't tackle the way I've been tackling all my life. There's only one way to tackle. All of them aren't going to be textbook. All of them aren't going to be textbook. The game of football is a barbaric sport. It's a physical sport.

It's about intimidating your opponent. If you lose the fact of intimidation, you might have put some damn flags on. if as someone that's gotten injured with a hip drop tackle, I don't know if you ever got hip dropped, Ocho. Oh, no, I don't play that. As soon as I, soon as I feel anything, and I'm going another way. If hip drop comes from, I don't know. See, the thing was, the guy got me, he grabbed me around my waist.

Yeah. And drop down on it. And let his wait for all. Yeah. And now my ankle pinned up under me. So it pipped my ankle in a little bit. Roll my ankle inside. What I don't talk about.

But the thing was, Ocho, is that he had a guy in D. Hopkins who was arguably the one or two, three best receivers. They don't have that. There's nobody on their roster that's the one,

especially offensively, that's one of the two or three best at their position. I like Harold Fanning Jr. But I don't think you're checking Halifan Jr. over Trey Hendricks. I mean, Trey Hendricks. Is that the name?

And if the talent around you is not as good as you like it to be, that means a quarterback has to be head and shoulders above everyone else. And he's not at that point anymore. I mean, they got to be on point. Ocho, you might have to give him the damn Rams style. You might have to give him the Rams office or the Cowboys office

where they're loading across the board. It'll be all world. He'll be all world. And I'm saying, but he doesn't have that. And I don't know if he have the skill position players around him that can consistently elevate him to a level that's, that you can win games with.
