Starting point is 00:00:39 Four days a week, I would buy two cups of banana pudding, but the price has gone up. So now I only buy one. Small but important ways from tech billionaires to the bond market to, yeah, banana pudding. If it's happening in business, our new podcast is on it. I'm Max Chastin. And I'm Stacey Vanek-Smith. Starting point is 00:01:04 I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on Good Company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of 2B. We dive into the competitive world of streaming. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. There are so many stories out there. And if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience
Starting point is 00:01:33 is that they feel seen. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I'm Sarah Spain, host of Good Game with Sarah Spain and the co-author of the new book Runs in the Family, an incredible true story of football, fatherhood and belonging written with and about Las Vegas Raiders running backs coach Dylan McCullough. It's the story of a football coach and father of four who sees his life forever changed by the unsealing of his adoption records. And it's got a twist you won't believe. Based
Starting point is 00:02:09 on the viral ESPN story I did a few years ago, this book will blow your mind and bring you to tears. Buy runs in the family wherever books are sold. We have our NBA Finals matchup. Indiana Pacers are going to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2000. 125-108. They had seven guys in double figures it was just too much to flurry the Knicks played well as long as they could kept the game as close as they could but it was just too much they just have too much firepower for them and they're going to the NBA finals to face the OKC Thunder thanks to
Starting point is 00:03:01 a 125-108 victory they take care of the New York Knicks in eight games, in six games, excuse me, eight games, damn, that would be something, in six games. Thank you for joining us for another episode of Nightcap. Y'all know me, I am your favorite uncle, Shannon Sharp, my partner and co-host, Liberty City's own bingo ring of fame honoree, the pro bowl of the all-pro, that's Chad Ocho-Sinko Johnson. Here he is ladies and gentlemen Dwight Howard

Supplies are limited, and once they're gone, they're gone. So please grab yours while supplies last. The end of the Pacers have done it. They put seven guys on Joe. We talked about them being a, a, a team by committee. You never know.
Starting point is 00:05:16 Pascal Siakam showed up and you look at the games in which you played extremely well, the games were not close when he did not play well, the Knicks won and Tyrese Halliburton had a phenomenal night again, 21 points, 13 assists, six rebounds. You know, he turned finally he turned the ball over, but he was great. M. Hard was unbelievable. His defense was sensational. Lee Smith played well.
Starting point is 00:05:40 I thought the difference in the ball game was guys and the white, I want to know what you think. I thought TB, Thomas Bryan coming off the bench. He hit three big threes, Ocho. He blocked the shot, I mean, his presence. And Ovi Thomas. He was all over the place. I thought they played well.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Dwight, watching this game, what do you think, what was the major reason that the Pacers were able to win this series? They weren't favored in any of the series, but they end up winning and going to the NBA finals and they make quick work of teams that were higher than them and was favored over them. Why were the Pacers able to win this series and make it look relatively easy in doing it? I would say they're one of the deepest teams outside of OKC is why they why they been winning.
Starting point is 00:06:26 They can go one through 10 or they can play the whole anybody from one through 10, they could play and go out there and be successful. So I think that's one of the biggest reasons why they offense. You know, you got Halle, he's going to give you buckets. He's going to get you a assist and see Aqua, man. He is the difference. He was sensational again. He's the difference maker. He was sensational, again. Yeah, he's the difference maker for me.
Starting point is 00:06:48 And I thought he was aggressive. I thought both guys were aggressive tonight. Remember the other night, Ocho Halliburton was not aggressive. I think he had two shots at the hal. Tonight, he was nine of 17. Two of five from the three point line, one of one from the free throw line.
Starting point is 00:07:02 Pascal Siakop, extremely aggressive, 10 of 18, three of five from the three-point line, eight of 11 from the free-throw line. He had 31 points. Neesmith, 10 points. Turner, 11 points. Nemhard, 14 points. Halliburton, as I mentioned, 21 and 13.
Starting point is 00:07:16 And then you had Obie Toppin, 25 minutes. He gave you 18. Thomas Bryant, TVK man with 13 minutes, three of five from the floor, three of four from the three-point line two or two From the free throw line Eleven big points and that was the difference in the series all series long. Okay, we talked about this Yeah, they're bitch because they're going to play nine ten guys every game. It does not matter
Starting point is 00:07:41 Tim started trying to do that. He started going dabbling into his bench a little bit more. McBride played all along. And then they inserted Robinson, Mitchell Robinson into the starter lineup and they brought Josh Hart off the bench. But you saw Landry Shamett get some extended minutes. We saw Darrell Wright get extended minutes. And so that's normally what we see.
Starting point is 00:08:02 They normally play seven guys, seven guys, but they started playing eight, nine guys. But it was not enough because their bench, they couldn't get the production to match what Indiana bench was giving you. Oh, Joe, you watch this, and I know you thought the Knicks was gonna blow this thing off. I did.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Listen, I lost big money too, man. I lost big money. Hey, Dwight, that's what really hurt. That's what really hurt. You know, I had a bet with my old lady. I had a bet with my girl, man. Hey Dwight, that's what really hurt. That's what really hurt. You know, I had a bet with my old lady. I had a bet with my girl, man. And to me, it's a shame because she ain't finna get paid either. But the Knicks. I will get my money. Oh, anyway, now back to the game, Dwight. I mean, listen, I was hurt. Honestly, I wanted the Knicks to pull this off,
Starting point is 00:08:45 not just for, not just the basketball team, for the city, for everything, you know, New York has been through. I would've loved to see them be back in that position. They ain't been through nothing! What you mean? What the hell they been through? You gotta, look, I would agree with you
Starting point is 00:09:00 if you talking about 2001, but they ain't been through nothing. They ain't been there since the 70s. I was been through nothing. They ain't been there since the 70s. I was rooting for them. They ain't been there since Columbus. No, they went to, you know, you remember when they went there with, or they lost to Tim Duncan. And when? Patrick Ewan.
Starting point is 00:09:15 They lost, the niggas lost to Tim Duncan in 99. 99. 99? Yeah. No. With Patrick Ewan? When he missed the finger roll dunk? That was in 99? Yeah. No. With Patrick Ewing? When he missed the finger roll dunk? That was a 99?
Starting point is 00:09:28 That's when Indiana went that year. You remember they lost to a Tim Duncan there? Oh, I don't remember. Let me make a look at that, 99. And then Indiana went the following year and got beat their eyes, beat out by the Lakers. But they haven't won since 73. Okay. But they've been in 99. That's what I mean. Going is one thing, but actually actually winning. But listen tonight, Unc, man, listen, the Knicks, too many turnovers. Yes. Too many turnovers. In
Starting point is 00:09:56 order for them to have to win this game tonight, boy Brunson and Cat would have had to have an out of body experience. They would have had to beat the show. I think Brunson was holding on to the basketball too much. Too long? Yeah, man. I heard people talk about that early, but that's the way he's always run the ball. I thought he was gassed. It is, but he was tired himself out,
Starting point is 00:10:17 and then nobody else was getting shots up because he's holding the ball. And Cap was just trying to drive, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Hey listen, the next Mr. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, listen, not the next missing free throws on they had what I think almost 18 18 plus some, some turnovers. Miss nine free throws. There was 17 or 26 from the free throw line. They missed free throws. Listen, and on top of,
Starting point is 00:10:37 on top of the Pacers thrive on fast break points and points off them turnovers. Yes, they do. They're the best. I mean, you mean, you watch this game, guys, about four minutes left in the third quarter, Indiana turned up their defense. And what was a six point lead all of a sudden, it went to double figures.
Starting point is 00:10:56 And from that point on, Like this. It's over with. That defense was a Nimhart, Neesmith, Obie, Pascal, those guys were on it. From that point, the last four minutes of the third quarter, and through the, excuse me, the third quarter, and then into the fourth quarter, their defense went to another level.
Starting point is 00:11:14 And they started turning them over, and all of a sudden, what was a six point lead, it went to 15, like, in the blink of an eye. Just like that. And that's what, and on Maybaskets, I'm like, hold on, wait a minute. Dwight, I know you've watched this Ocho, and you too, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:11:30 The Knicks would make a basket. They would pass the ball to Halley. He would get the ball ahead to Nimhart, I mean to a Siakam, Siakam a Euro step, and lay it in. So basically from the time they take the ball out to the balls in the back in three seconds, yeah Yeah, yeah
Starting point is 00:11:46 I'm like bro. Y'all can't own a main basket. You give it up a layup or the boys tired They tired they tired. They got no they got no leg. They ready to come home Because the thing was is that look I knew after the first game that the Knicks were in trouble Because you lost and Jalen Brunson and cat went crazy that look, I knew after the first game that the Knicks were in trouble because you lost and Jalen Brunson and Cat went crazy. Jalen Brunson had 43, Cat had 36, and you still lose? So what was the likelihood that Jalen Brunson was gonna average 40 and Cat was gonna average 30?
Starting point is 00:12:21 That's what they would have had to do in order to win. Yeah, they weren't gonna be there. And I just didn't see that happening, especially with the committee that the Pacers have. They're gonna get, when they won, they have six guys in double figures every time. Five to six guys. Now they have seven guys in double figures.
Starting point is 00:12:40 And it's hard to defend them because who's their go-to guy? Is it Siakam? Is it Halle? Because we saw Aaron Neesmith come in in that game one and make six three-pointers in the last five minutes of the ball game. And we saw, we know, actually, and when you go back and think about it, Mathburn really didn't play well this series.
Starting point is 00:13:01 He's one of their better players, especially off the bench. And he got in foul trouble, so it was really hard for him to get a rhythm. played well this series. He's one of their better players, especially off the bench. He got in foul trouble, so it was really hard for him to get a rhythm. So there's only really two games in which he played really, really well. He's due to have a stretch of games. But I just thought the Knicks at the end, they just started to like turn the ball over and they make a basket and Halle would get the ball. He get it ahead to a Siakam and he Eurostep and he laid it up or he just dive in straight to the basket. I'm like, well, damn y'all. Y'all don't, y'all don't want to stop that.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Y'all know on make or miss. They're looking to push tempo. Yeah. And that's what the problem is. And Tim, I might've did this too late. Dwight, Tim know what you think because Tim, he grinds his guys down in the regular season and damn grind them down in the post season. And when you play the first three games,
Starting point is 00:13:48 first two games, and you got guys playing 44, 46, and they went into overtime playing all those minutes, it's hard once you start extending that series, it's gonna get harder for them guys to have them legs because they going every other day. Yeah, you can tell they was tired. You can tell, if you watch Mitchell Robinson, when he got in the game, he started out
Starting point is 00:14:08 with a great burst of energy. He'll have big moments, but then he'll start lagging behind on defense. He'll come in late on plays and stuff like that. So you can tell these guys didn't have no legs. So man, Teo's gotta, I think he gotta start playing his bench a little bit more. I know he don't really, he don't really like playing.
Starting point is 00:14:25 He don't really like playing his bench. But he was like that in Chicago, it got him in trouble. He was like that in Minnesota. He like that, he like that in the Knicks. He grind those guys. I mean, you only got so much in your legs. You grinding guys, you playing guys 39 and 40 minutes in the regular season?
Starting point is 00:14:40 He tripping. Nah, and then come playoffs, it's even more because you got to focus even more so that burns even more energy out of it. And so now you playing concentrated minutes and you playing 40 plus minutes a night. Nah, I agree with you Dwight on that. He's gonna have to play, he's gonna have to trust. That's what it comes down to because you could throw guys in there, but he doesn't trust his bench. He trusted them for a handful of games and they and they served him well
Starting point is 00:15:05 But tonight they just didn't have it. They just didn't have it tonight And I thought that at the half the game the first half the Knicks couldn't script it any better We got a game. It's only a four-point game. Yeah, both teams are in the 50 So if we extrapolate and double that up, that's a hundred and eight hundred and ten But they go and get 67 in the second half. Yeah, Indiana is one of those teams though that, you know, they could be down 20 points and come back and win the game. So it's like if you gonna beat them you got to put them away. You can't play with them. They just that good. As the mix they found out game one firsthand. Yeah. They had them down by 14 in the fourth quarter under five minutes.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Uh, look at this percentage. They shot 54% from the floor. They shot 52% from the three. They were 16 of 19 from the three point line on the flip side. Uh, the Knicks were 48% from the floor, 28% from the three, and 65% from the free throw line. There's only two people that could have helped the Knicks tonight. And they might have had a chance.
Starting point is 00:16:16 I don't know if they're the one, they might have had a chance to win. We are the one that, the one I'm thinking about, he ain't, I ain't never seen him play, I never heard of him playing basketball. That was Jesus. I was about to say him. I was thinking that was Jesus. I was about to say him. I was thinking about saying that.
Starting point is 00:16:26 I was about to say him too. I was just about to say that. I don't see, there ain't no mention in the Bible. You know, I thought a scholar, a philologist, or some biblical scholar, but I don't know if I've seen any reference of him in basketball. So I guess you better, what, you gonna take Jordan? Maybe Patrick Ewing?
Starting point is 00:16:45 Who else? Willis Reed? Rest his soul? Clyde Frazier? I don't know. That goddamn, I mean Brunson didn't have the game he needed to have in order for them to have a chance night nor needed to have, but that goddamn Nemhard did a hell of a job tonight, man. Oh yeah. They had, Nim Hard and Neesmith. He made it very difficult for Jalen Watson to really do anything, find any rhythm. Picking him up 94. Hey, they got a great team. Picking him up.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Oh man, so now I got a question for you and Dwight. Now that we know who's in the finals, now based on the matchup, the styles, the benches, who do we have winning and why? I'm just curious. Man, I mean, OKC has been the best team. They've been the best team all year. They've had the best player this year. They're deep, just like you said.
Starting point is 00:17:42 I mean, both teams are gonna to play nine, 10 guys. Uh, but if I had to say defensively, I think OKC is a little better defensively. They got six guys. Uh, it starts with Dork and Jalen Williams and they come in with Wiggins and, and, and Wallace and, and, and, and Caruso, uh, Isaiah Joe, and they got those two big guys that can protect, um, they get after you. It's gonna be, I think it's gonna be a better series than people think. Now look, I know everybody, everybody wanted the Knicks.
Starting point is 00:18:12 They're like, man, OKC in Indiana? Hey, you should've told the Knicks to play better. Ant-Man, the Lakers, if y'all want big market teams, the big market teams that were in the playoffs, you should've did what you're supposed to do, and then we wouldn't have had this problem. But we got what we got now. But for me, I think OKC is a little deeper. I think they're a little better
Starting point is 00:18:34 Do I believe that well I can't oh sure I gotta do this event in a couple days But we got to predict the winner, but what I will say is this I Like both of these teams in the finals that like like I'm saying I think you just want to go I think this is going to go, this is going to be one of those finals that it's going to be really good because both of these teams are some real teams. They play they bitch. They got great coaches and they play up and down.
Starting point is 00:19:00 They can slow the pace down. They got, well, you don't know who could be the go-to guy for Indiana, like I said, but man, this gonna be a good fight. And I think the thing is, is that look, OKC, you know who that guy is, it's Shay. He's gonna get his shots. Jalen Williams has played really well the last two games.
Starting point is 00:19:22 He's starting around in the shape to look like the guy that was an all-MBA selection, an all-star. He's starting to look like that. Now, Shea, he's throwing cards. He's like, damn efficiency. I'm gonna get my shots up. Either they gonna go in or you gonna foul, but I'm getting to the free throw line. But I am not gonna look back and say,
Starting point is 00:19:40 man, I wasn't aggressive enough. He's aggressive as hell. And, boy, Neith Smith, he thought he had his work cut out for him dealing with Jalen Brunson. He got another guy. That's a little bigger than Brunson. I mean, Brunson might be six, I'm being kind, maybe six one, but you're talking about a guy that's six,
Starting point is 00:20:01 seven, he's the MVP and he exudes confidence now. He below. And that's the thing, when a guy wins the MVP, Dwight, there's something, like, when you won that defensive player of the year award, you're like, I'm supposed to win this thing every year. Every year. Every year. And you have that mindset. Shay got that mindset now. I'm an MVP.
Starting point is 00:20:20 I kind of like people talking about me. I'm an OKC, and they got to talk about us now because of what I've done. This is going to be a Mim Hard, Neesmith, those guys got their hands full. They're going to have to be on their best. A lot of times the big economic forces we hear about on the news show up in our lives in small ways. Three or four days a week I would buy two cups of banana pudding, but the price has gone up. So now I only buy one. The demand curve in action and that's just one of the things we'll be covering on everybody's business from Bloomberg Business Week. I'm Max Chavkin. So listen to everybody's business on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures,
Starting point is 00:22:39 and your guide on Good Company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi, for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content,
Starting point is 00:23:16 the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide. And hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeart radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. In the fall of 1986, Ronald Reagan found himself at the center of a massive scandal that looked
Starting point is 00:23:54 like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. No one was let go. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask it. I'm Leon Neyvok, co-creator of Slow Burn.
Starting point is 00:24:12 In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. Listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. They're going to make it difficult for Shadot. I think they're going to pick him up full court just like they did for Bronx. You got to. Bronx then?
Starting point is 00:25:02 Yeah. You got to. You got to. You know what's funny? I think most basketball enthusiasts, pundits, analysts, like you guys that really know the game extremely well, think most of you guys are picking a thunder to win. And I don't know why, just inside for some reason, I have a feeling that the Patriots are gonna win. Because they seem to be the underdog in this situation In every situation they've been the underdog the whole time
Starting point is 00:25:28 Exactly and everybody's doing it again Everybody's doing it regardless of who they're playing they refuse to pick the Pacers for some reason I don't know why. I mean I think the thing is look When you talk about OKC they were the best team. They won 68 games I mean the Western Conference was sold up so, so long ago. They have one of the best players in the NBA to have a top five player in shape. They play outstanding defense. They got, I'm talking about their wing guys with Caruso and Dorr and Jalen Williams
Starting point is 00:25:57 and Carson and Wiggins and Wallace, Isaiah Joe. They got six, seven guys to like that can defend at an elite level. And you got a check protecting the rim. You got a guy that's top three, top four in steals and shake. They get a lot of deflection. They do a great job of passing, playing pass lanes. They do a great job of helping. They do a great job of funneling. And they know where they're vulnerable. We've got to make the Indiana play at a half court set.
Starting point is 00:26:26 We cannot let them get up and down. We're going to make them play. We're going to make you execute at a half court set. And if you execute time and time and time again, you, Hey, you know, you like the, you like that transition to white cause you want some easy baskets. It gets hard to execute every single time down the floor and you got to run set. It gets hard, but that's what down the floor and you got to run set it gets hard You're right, but that's what okay see forces their opponents to do. I mean you're gonna get some I mean, it's hard to step somebody from getting zero points in transition, but they're gonna make it difficult
Starting point is 00:26:55 Tyrese Halliburton in the fourth quarter 11 fourth quarter points. He had 21 total points six rebounds 13 assists three steals Hey overrate that. Overrate that. Hey, I think that's a weak award. I don't know who voted, like 12 guys voted. I don't know who those 12 guys was. Overrate that. I think they need to take that out. I think that's disrespectful to all the players in the league to sit and vote against somebody. That's your own. We are brotherhood, we are fraternity. So it's like, I think that, you know, pushing that type of, you know, overrated player. Yeah, that kind of narrative is bad, man.
Starting point is 00:27:34 I don't like that. Hey, do I, honestly, I mean, I was talking about it when it came out and I'm thinking about, you know, when they talk about players in the NFL, when they do the top 50 or top 100. And as long as I played, I never ever voted for anything like that.
Starting point is 00:27:47 So you played the game for a long time. At any point in your career, did you ever vote for players? Nah, I do, like we do the team stuff, like the one of the best teammates and stuff like that. But not like on the court stuff. Yeah, see, that's why I think that stuff is made up by media. I don't really think, I don't think it's real.
Starting point is 00:28:05 They just say it's the players, oh, the vote, they say the player said it, but I think it's done by the media. I don't know, I don't know why. I don't like that. Man, K, what's the name just lost, man? Caleb Plant? Yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:28:21 He got knocked out? He went down. It just ended, man. He got knocked out? He went down. It just ended. Damn. Guess what, guys? What happened? The Eastern Conference Larry Bird winner is Pascal Siakam. Tyrese Halliburton was second in points, first in rebounds, first in assists, first in steals, first in starts. He was tied with threes.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Pascal Siakam received five first place votes. Tyrese Halliburton received four. Dwight, Archburner of NBA.com had Halliburton, Tim Bontemps had Pascal Siakam, Jamal Carrier had Tyrese Halliburton, and after theemps had Pascal Siakam Jamal Carrier had Tyrese Halliburton in the after star reporter had Pascal Siakam Katie George ESPN radio had Pascal Siakam Fred Katz the athletic had Pascal Siakam Reggie Miller TNT Tyrese Halliburton Steve Popper Newsday Siakam Joe Varden the athletic Tyrese Halliburton It could have good if you go back and look you look at the guy I mean those I mean
Starting point is 00:29:34 Both of those guys are so important to the to the success of the team. Yeah Yeah, but you go back and you what was that game one Tyrese I mean that game he had 39 was a game That was passed now In the game for he had another 30-point game and then tonight he had another 30-point game But look if they if Halliburton had a one, I would have been disappointed I'm not I'm not I mean I can make case, I can make a compelling argument for either guy. Somebody had to win. And I'm glad they got, because guess what happened? Glad you had a nine, had nine people voted, because if you had ten you probably got a tie and then had a split award. And nobody want those split
Starting point is 00:30:15 awards, especially today's game. But congratulations to Pascal Sialka. I mean, but Halle came, but look at, look at what Halle had on when he was in the tunnel. Now he looked like he was coming to play. I mean you know like this here. You got to look He's all tweet. I think Ben Stiller said hey, I see you packed to come back to New York. Look at hat go Halle Halle go Halle That ain't number that's a that's a funeral outfit on He bae, hey, will he bear up this? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:30:41 You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:30:48 You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:30:55 You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:31:01 You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? This finals man, this gonna be a goon. Let me say that. I mean Halliburton was trying to pull a LeBron, he trying to, or Jokic trying to lead his team in everything. I mean he was second in points, he was first in rebounds, assists, steals, stalks first, and he was tied for threes.
Starting point is 00:31:18 But Pascal, like I said, those games, I mean game two, Pascal was huge. 39 big points, and he followed I mean, game two, Pascal was huge. 39 big points, and then he followed that up in game four with boom, another big night, and he followed up again. 31 points, and every time they tried to make a run, Pascal would make a play. Either with a rebound, it was a big two point shot
Starting point is 00:31:40 or a three point shot, so I ain't mad at him. I mean, the man, hey, and plus he's the guy that probably held that thing together because you know what I'm saying, Dwight? He has championship experience. He's on the 2019 Toronto team. I was just about to say that, man. He has been here before, you know, so he knows exactly what it takes to win.
Starting point is 00:31:59 He has that experience. He has that championship pedigree. This is why he was highly sought after, coming to Toronto. So, man, just like I was saying before we got on, he went in there and said, listen, I'm the captain now. Hey, but I like that, man. Look at me.
Starting point is 00:32:20 Hey, Irish, look at me. I built it. Yeah, Irish, look at me. Yeah, he was a, and you know, they look, they tried to give him a hard time. There was a reporter asked him like, what happened in game five? And he said, they just played hard. It wasn't that we didn't play hard. They played hard. Somebody's got to win.
Starting point is 00:32:39 Yeah. I mean, and sometimes you can play your hardest, but it didn't look like they came out. Look, and the way the Knicks came out tonight, you can tell it was a sense of desperation. They were really, really desperate, because I don't want you celebrating. Look, I don't want you celebrating at all, but I damn sure don't want you celebrating in my house.
Starting point is 00:32:56 You're not finished throwing no birthday party for somebody else at my house, nah. Ooh, you gotta go. Take that thing down to the YMCA, but you ain't celebrating here. So they got him back, and you know, he's like, bro, I don't know where you're going with this. They just, hey, hey, it happened.
Starting point is 00:33:09 This basketball, sometimes the team plays. They play, you know, they get the loose balls. They make some shots. They played harder than they would have. It's not that we didn't play hard. They played harder. And now it'd be interesting to see what the reporter has to say about Pascal performance tonight
Starting point is 00:33:27 and being the Larry Bird, the Eastern Conference MVP of the Eastern Conference Finals. That's so tough. Congrats to Pascal, man. Oh, it was the guy last year that got banned from covering Caitlin Clark. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. He's doing that on purpose, don't he?
Starting point is 00:33:43 Yeah, it is dark. Cause he said something slick. He was something slick about... Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're okay, yeah. He doing that on purpose. You know what? He's purposely, he's purposely create those moments.
Starting point is 00:33:56 The same one, remember when Jim Rome purposely? Yeah. Called, yeah. Say he doing this thing. So they clip former. What they call it now? They call it Jim, yeah. They could form when they call it Forming. Yeah, no, you purposely create those moments Oh, okay. The thing is oh look, I didn't I didn't go to journalism school, but I know as a reporter
Starting point is 00:34:14 You're not supposed to be a part of the story Your job is to cover what you see talk about what you saw but never become a part of the story And sometimes that happens guys become a part of the story. And sometimes that happens, guys become a part of the story. And he tried to make himself a part of the story. Just like, look, Caitlin Clark doing that gesture to her boyfriend or whoever she was doing it to, bro, why would you fix your mouth to add to that with you? If he did it to you, why would you do it back to her?
Starting point is 00:34:38 Man, stop it. You never insert yourself in a situation like that. But I'm glad for Pascal. I'm happy that he played extremely well tonight. He's played extremely well in this series. But so did Tallarie Saliburton. That's not to take anything away from Halle because Halle had nothing to be hanging his head about.
Starting point is 00:34:56 I thought Halle was unbelievable. He's the captain. He's the captain. He steers everything. Make sure everybody's in place. He's always, hey, he gets the ball, his head is up. He looking to get an easy one. And, uh, but they went in tonight.
Starting point is 00:35:10 The Indianapolis Pacers, the Indiana Pacers are going to the NBA finals. Yes, sir. Coach, hey, you ain't played the whole night. Coach, hey, Dwight, go on and get in there. Go get this last 15, 20 seconds. What's the team? If I'm on the Knicks? You're playing the Pacers.
Starting point is 00:35:31 Oh, if I'm on the team right now? Yeah. Oh, he said go with 15 seconds left. Yeah, go on and get that 15 out of there. Go on and get that deep day, A Howard. A Howard. I would say, Coach, you want me to go in or you want me to see what the crowd want?
Starting point is 00:35:47 I might go in the crowd. Yeah, I'm going to game in 15 seconds. You gonna go get that line, hey. Oh Joe, that's like, hey, they put you in for the kneel down. Nah, coach, I'm good. What who? I'm good. Nah, I'm gonna be kneeling on the sideline. That's my deal. If I'm on the knicks, I'm good. I'm good. Nah, I'm gonna be kneeling on the sideline. That's about it.
Starting point is 00:36:06 If I'm on the knees, I'm out. Oh, so if you're on the winning team, you're gonna go and get the 15 seconds. I'm good. I was saying, Coach, man, I'm gonna be stubborn just like the rest of them had you got up there, team. This out here is so ridiculous. I'm just kidding. I love you, team.
Starting point is 00:36:23 Yeah, but hey, they tried to put me in the kneel down. I said, coach, the next time I go take a knee, we gonna be saying the prayer inside the locker room. That's the next time I'm taking a knee, man. Nah, coach, I'm good. That's disrespectful. Disrespectful. But I mean, hey, everybody, I mean, hold on, everybody got in the, nah.
Starting point is 00:36:42 You can't, that's too late. You might as well keep him in for 15 seconds. Somebody ain't play all season, you gonna put him in for 15 seconds. They ain't even out in the game. That's a sign of, that's disrespectful. What's the point? Well they got two, Colick, Dadditt, PJ, and Campagne
Starting point is 00:36:58 was the only two that didn't get in for the mix. And Jackson and Bradley were the only two that didn't get in for the Pacers Yeah, what I mean guess what? Hey, I'm going to you know what I'm gonna go in Because 35 years from now what I'm telling my grandkids they don't know hey, you know, you're papa I got it in here to both five quick points. They don't go back and look at the video The video, they got it now, it's over with it. Hey. Hold on, I'm with the player.
Starting point is 00:37:26 Hey, you know your Popeye's got him a rebound? Hey, I can grab him a rebound and get him to see us or something. Right, tell him everything. Hey, do NBA players, obviously NBA players have incentives in their contracts as well? You think maybe him going in with that short amount of time might have triggered an incentive?
Starting point is 00:37:43 Man, no, 15 seconds. No, they probably have incentives if you win the incentive. Hell no. Man, no. 15 seconds. No, they probably have incentives if you win the play, if you win the playoff. If you go to the NBA finals or something like that, you get an MVP award, Defensive Player of the Year award like that. But not know if I get in the game or the NBA. Hell no. Well, that's totally disrespectful.
Starting point is 00:38:00 What logical reason is it to put someone in that amount of time? We'll be in the game with 15 seconds. Man, let me get that bird. I've been practicing all this time. Let me get that bird. I've been practicing all this time. Let me get one in today. Hey, you ain't even getting loose.
Starting point is 00:38:09 15 seconds, you're gonna break a sweat. The other team just gonna hold the ball. I hate to break it to you, but I need 20 seconds to get loose. You got 15 seconds, by the time I get stretched, the game gonna be over, Coach. Man, I've been so tight for real.
Starting point is 00:38:24 I know, I was just saying, I'd be so mad if the coach really tried to put me in the game with 15 seconds. I might take the ball and throw it in the stands. You know, what is you doing coach? Hey, going, let me tell you, I don't know what's worse, but these might have to be the two worst things. Is for a coach to ask you to go in the game with 10 seconds or just a little bit of time on the clock Or when you was a little kid you got picked last in P Both of them is a quick bus But here's the thing there ain't no footage of me getting picked last There ain't no footage of me getting picked last and while you're bull driving
Starting point is 00:39:03 There ain't no footage of me going in there with And while you're bull driving, there ain't no footage of me going in there with no kids singing, so the clock doing no kneel down either. So I'm covered either way. But I know, I mean, some guys like, hey, at least I got in the game. But that used to be how it was when you growing up in Little League.
Starting point is 00:39:16 I mean, everybody been playing the full, play all the minutes like you and I, do I need to play that? You right. Sometimes kids just get in the game. Hey, son, go on, get in there. And kids just get the game. Hey, son, go and get in there. And be happy, be happy as hell. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:28 Cause that's the only way a uniform will go get, if you go home with a clean uniform again. Just happy to get out there. Man, no, don't put your kid out there for 10 seconds, man. 15 seconds, let's over with it. Don't let him sit on the sideline. Check this out. The last two teams to trade Paul George are in the NBA finals.
Starting point is 00:39:51 Indiana traded him for Victor Oladipo to OKC. OKC traded him to the Clippers for Shay Gildges. That ain't a bad deal. That did all right. Both parties. Yeah. It's working out well. But listen, I'm gonna give you one in soccer terms. So PSG won Champions League today, right? Yep. Yeah. Not so long ago, PSG had three of what I would like to consider some of the best players in the world.
Starting point is 00:40:41 At Messi, they had Neymar and they had Mbappe. The reason Mbappe leaves, Messi's down here in the inner Miami. Neymar is at Santos right now if I'm not mistaken, obviously after tearing his ACL in Saudi. And obviously it's a new team. They got a young 19 year old, I don't know how to pronounce his last name, his French last name, Dough or Doy something like that. And they just won Champions League today, but they couldn't even snip a Champions League, obviously. With all that talent on there when they had a barbed and they yeah
Starting point is 00:41:06 No, but I'm these ain't just know anybody on we talk about the criminal cream when it comes to players all on one team Right and they can happen like that. I don't I don't I How many how many leagues you think how many championships you played anyone if they had Neymar Ronaldo and Messi The same because they the same Messi had Neymar, Ronaldo and Messi? The same? Because they the same? Messi and Ronaldo basically do the same. Yeah, a little bit. Yeah. They're not going to win.
Starting point is 00:41:32 You got to have, you got to balance it out. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's what P.H. They have a balanced team. Yeah. Back to front. Anyway, I didn't mean to bring soccer up, my bad, but anyway. You see the Knicks fans already jinx they had game seven hats made y'all see
Starting point is 00:41:50 the can you we got it up on the screen it might as well let me get one of them yeah I would another seven on it game 77 I didn't do that. Come on, Knicks. That's crazy. Not a name out. Yeah. Guess what? That's really be some third world country.
Starting point is 00:42:17 They get some nice game seven hats. They'll get all the paraphernalia that was supposed to be for the Knicks. Just like they got what was supposed to be for the, uh, just like they got what was supposed to be for the Chiefs had they won, that goes to third world countries. Somebody go get some nice World Series, the Yankees World Series gear from last year, ay. It ain't gotta go to no third world country. Just give me a couple of hats over here.
Starting point is 00:42:39 I stay in the country. Let me get a coat. You wear the game seven hat.? You wear the game seven hat? They have me wear the game seven hat with an outfit. They be like, when you miss go to game seven? I'm like, man, I don't remember. I just got the hat. Damn, you think you're 73?
Starting point is 00:42:55 73. Yeah, that was the last game 73. Yeah, exactly. Aw, man. Man, exactly. Aw, man. Man, Spike probably sick. He so tight, he finna make a move. Steven A, my dog, Steven A, I know he throwing up right now.
Starting point is 00:43:13 Caroline finna go way back now. Hey, you know, honestly, it's really nothing to feel that bad about. Yeah, it is. Make it to the point. Because when you get that close, Ocho, it hurt, Ocho, it hurt. Okay, okay, right, right.
Starting point is 00:43:23 Because you know how it is, hey, when you, at least we got there, that don't work no more. Right. Right. Right. Listen, Debbie back next year. Who? They're not going to make it this far because the heat
Starting point is 00:43:35 is going to be the heat. But you know. The heat going to be a whole new team. No, no, no. And plus the thing is. Dwight ain't heard the news yet. What's the news? Each of my John is going to the heat and John Maran Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you gotta wait to after the playoffs anyway, so
Starting point is 00:43:58 Bingo bingo. I listen I don't sat down with Mickey Harrison and Pat Riley and Spolster So all the new coming yeah, yeah It's gonna be I can't say nothing but as for the teams in the works To get this thing happen. Okay in the meantime in between time. We got the big three basketball this song I'm planning to beat three this year. So who on your team? What team you on? LA Riot. Okay okay okay. Oh you with Jeff Teague on your team right? Jeff Teague, Jordan Crawford, Wesley Johnson, Elijah Stewart. Yes sir. I like that.
Starting point is 00:44:42 I like that. Yeah. You gonna be shooting, I want more. Dwight, you gonna be shooting four-porters? Really, I'm gonna be, I'm trying to win. I'm trying to win, man. I'm trying to win. Dwight, you gotta get one four-porter. I mean, hey, just tell him, for every fight, fifth rebound, I'm shooting a four-porter.
Starting point is 00:44:59 I like that. I like that. But I'm trying to win. I ain't trying to play around. And yeah, I'm trying to go in and win this big three. We'll be out in Miami. Wait, wait, wait. Wait, wait.
Starting point is 00:45:10 Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait.
Starting point is 00:45:18 Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait, wait. Wait? Yep. Wait they weren't even at the garden though. They were going to be back at the garden. Oh you're saying oh they came back to game seven okay.
Starting point is 00:45:34 I understand. Hold up. I ain't hear that right. Half a million? Two tickets were half a million. Each ticket was two hundred fifty thousand. A piece. Now who could afford that? A lot of people in New York could afford it. Wait, time out, time out, time out. Let's listen. I know we all got money, right? Let's just come back down. I ain't got that kind of money. Okay. I'm playing. For $500,. I'm playing. I'm getting the Jersey. I'm getting schnickers. I'm getting that. I'm getting the game.
Starting point is 00:46:09 But he just said, how many, he said is it people who can afford those tickets? And we just said, yeah. So people in New York that can afford their tickets. Hell yeah. I ain't there for. Right.
Starting point is 00:46:22 We told, we told, listen, who in the hell in this world, in this economy, right now, right? Listen to me now, stay with me. Can afford 500 grand to throw away 500 grand, not throw away, you have to actually love the game of basketball to pay $250,000 a ticket for a two hour basketball game and then you lose.
Starting point is 00:46:43 Or you win, either way it goes. You have to hope you win game seven and you have $500,000 going down the drain. Hey but look here New York City has more billionaires and millionaires than any other city in the world so there are a lot of mofos back in the $4,500,000. And they just don't pay for one night. Hold on. Hold on. Huh?
Starting point is 00:47:10 New York has the most billionaires and millionaires? Yep. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold, connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core.
Starting point is 00:49:45 It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen.
Starting point is 00:50:33 like it might bring down his presidency. Did you make a mistake in sending arms to Tehran, sir? No. It became known as the Iran-Contra affair. And I'm not taking any more questions in just a second. I'm going to ask it. I'm Leon Nefock, co-creator of Slow Burn. In my podcast, Fiasco, Iran-Contra, you'll hear all the unbelievable details of a scandal
Starting point is 00:51:00 that captivated the nation nearly 40 years ago, but which few of us still remember today. The things that happened were so bizarre and insane, I can't begin to tell you. Please do. To hear the whole story, listen to Fiasco, Iran Contra, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The funny thing about it is the people that had that kind of wealth, that kind of wealth,
Starting point is 00:51:37 to say, oh, here's five in a grand. It ain't the ones who are the millionaires. No, they're the millionaires. No, they're the billionaires. Bingo. Yeah. I mean, but what was the game for them tickets in game five was like 70,000 a ticket for Quartzide. Wait, at the guard? Yes.
Starting point is 00:52:02 70,000 a piece? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But that's up. And the closer you get to Senate Court, the more expensive they are. Hey, Senate Court right here. You see the TV back there? Right there.
Starting point is 00:52:16 I'm looking at Senate Court. That's Senate Court. It don't cost you nothing. Yo, tripping. I'm not going to spend that much money on no basketball game. OK, think about what people pay for the Swedes at the Super Bowl. They're paying a million, two million dollars for a Swede. You gotta, this is different though. The Super Bowl is a big event.
Starting point is 00:52:35 If your team don't lose, what happen if you pay two million dollars and your team lost? But hey, this is the whole point. The people at the Super Bowl aren't even the real fans. Yeah, it's a big event. That's a celebrity event. Yeah, they paying for their sweet wave before the game. Those are corporate sponsors. They bringing in all the famous and rich people. They can afford that.
Starting point is 00:52:53 Those are covered in those sweets. What billionaire you know of Knicks fan? He ain't got no Knicks gear on. They just doing that just because they got money. Because a lot of times you go to an event like that, I was there. It's like, when you paid that money to see Jordan hit that shot in Utah, you never know. Or I was there when Barry Barnes broke the record.
Starting point is 00:53:13 You pay all that money. A lot of times, you pay for the opportunities. I was there. I was there. That's it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Creating memories.
Starting point is 00:53:21 Creating memories. I can create memories without spending that kind of money. Yeah, half a million, I mean, half a million dollars? Oh, no. Like I said, for half a million, they can put me in the game. Somebody, some team is gonna put me in the game. I'm going in the game myself if I spend that much money.
Starting point is 00:53:36 I'm gonna just walk from the court. Hey, give me the ball, Bronson. If there's a game seven on, and you know I would never spend that kind of money, but if I just did, for whatever reason, and I would have to create content, and I would become part of history, because I'm gonna streak the court.
Starting point is 00:53:53 I'm gonna streak the court, I'm gonna run out there, slap the back door. And guess what, you ain't gonna be able to see the whole game. He gonna be up. They gonna throw your ass out the game. They gonna throw out the game. I just said, if I'm gonna spend that kind of money, I'm gonna be a part of history. That's the whole point.
Starting point is 00:54:10 You'll never be able to go to another room. Trust me, you'll be on camera. They'll get you on camera. They'll get you. They'll get you on camera. I mean, you spend that kind of money, you court side. I mean, look. And then they make sure the cameras get you. I mean, look, I saw Callie Jenner and Shalameh.
Starting point is 00:54:30 Shalameh. Shit. I saw Caitlin Clark and Boston. I saw Mike Epps. Did anybody, I mean, look, first of all, it ain't like any other, I mean, they got John Cougar Melloncamp, they got Mike Epps and they got Caitlin Clark.
Starting point is 00:54:46 That's about it. Man, you can't talk about Indiana like that. I mean, Peyton Living Denver. I love Indiana, dude. It ain't like New York. It's not like LA. In LA, NBA finals, you gonna see the who's who. They all coming out.
Starting point is 00:55:01 Yeah. From Denzel to, I'm talking about who, big, big, big, big, big, though. Yeah. Oh, they finna come out of Indiana now. It's up now. Who? In Indiana? Why?
Starting point is 00:55:13 Man, come on, man. Who? It's up, man. Everybody coming out. Let me ask you a question. What stars you see in the West of Congress finals that was at a OKC? Nobody. Exactly. Exactly. in the Western Conference Finals that was at a OKC. Nobody?
Starting point is 00:55:27 Exactly. Exactly. Nobody? No, I'll say the same. Chris Toghue. Yeah, same thing with Minnesota. Who they got? I mean, unless you're gonna bring out Jetta, you gonna bring out Jetta? Yeah. I mean, like, the market is New York and it's LA.
Starting point is 00:55:45 It is what it is. Dwight, you know markets is New York and it's LA. It is what it is. Dwight, you know it is what it is. You're right. That is true. Now Atlanta, now you gonna see, hey, Atlanta, you know, hey, they gonna have from Boosie to Baby to AA, DC. Everybody.
Starting point is 00:56:03 Everybody, there's somebody, Usher, gonna be at the game. But other places just don't have them, this doesn't have, they don't have it like that. In the Out of Look, and that's not a knock, but I mean, there's not a whole lot of celebs that lives in the Midwest, they just don't. And you know, the LA, when you think about LA,
Starting point is 00:56:22 it's different, we talk about the elites. Yes. About the A the elites. Yes. What about the A-list? Yeah. The whole different, whole different. You would see Hove. Yeah. You would see Hove and Beyonce at a Knicks,
Starting point is 00:56:34 or the NBA finals. If it was in LA, you'd see them. You would see that level of celebrity. You would see probably a Drake. Something you see like that. But man, I ain't going no Indiana, no OKC. Y'all true, I like both Indiana and OKC. Oh, I'm going to Indiana just to go to Country Kitchen.
Starting point is 00:56:56 I'm gonna get the fried catfish that you're on. Hey, what you know about Country Kitchen, man? I know Cynthia, I go there all the time. I got my picture on the wall. They don't they don't do me and i'm a regular I'll pitch you up there at country kitchen too now. I know about i'm a regular country kitchen They already know what i'm gonna get i'm gonna get some of everything. It ain't been that in a minute man, man. Yeah Every time i'm every there's not been one time i've been to indy that I haven't gone by Oh, there's not been one time I've been to Indy that I haven't gone by Are you been to St. Elmo's? I have yeah. Yeah, they that horse radish for that thing caught me I don't like that horse right? Maybe put my nose. Yeah
Starting point is 00:57:36 Yeah, I'm good with that Minnesota timber wolves are reportedly looking to trade for an Alpha and are expected to pursue Kevin Durant per Amico Hoops. The Timberwolves need another Alpha next to Edwards to win it all, which is why my sources told Hoops Wire that Minnesota is expected to pursue Durant in a trade again. This obviously, they tried to get him at the trade deadline, but KD made it abundantly clear. He doesn't want to lead. You know, it's a lot of coming along here. Let's get a credit cap. It's what you think Dwight? Do they have the pieces in order to pull it off? I don't know. Consider what they gave up to go bare.
Starting point is 00:58:20 I don't know if they got the pieces. I mean, I mean, all you got is Jay McDaniels, and Julius Redd is a free agent. Man, that's a... Yeah. Ooh, that's tough. I'm just trying to think about... Mekil Alexander Walker, I think he's a free agent.
Starting point is 00:58:39 So I'm just trying to... See, the thing is, all that sounds good in theory. Now, we're looking at it, Dwight good in theory. Now we're looking at it. Do I know Joe? We're looking at it like team to team. Now if we get two, three, four teams involved, now maybe somebody can swing something, but I'm not in the business of helping you. I'm not in the business of helping.
Starting point is 00:58:59 Yeah. I'm looking at, I think that'll really help ants development by having KD. I think they just need some more shoot. I don't know. And plus, KD will be 37 at the start of the season. Right. People ain't giving up a whole lot of guy for a guy that's 37 that has an injury history.
Starting point is 00:59:28 KD is phenomenal. He's a first ballot Hall of Famer. He's our greatest men's Olympic basketball player. He's an MVP. He's a finals MVP. No one is questioning his resume. But the fact of the matter is he's about to to be 37, and he has an injury history. That is not conjecture, that's not innuendo,
Starting point is 00:59:49 that's not speculation, that of those are facts. You know what, even with the injury history, based on who it is, I think they would overlook it. Same reason like- They would, that's what Phoenix did. Hey, small example, Dwight, you know, look at the Steelers. Hell, Aaron Rodgers has the injury history,
Starting point is 01:00:06 but look at his resume. Look at his athlete. But I ain't gotta give up, all I gotta do is pay his salary. I ain't gotta give up nothing to get him. It'd be a whole different thing if I gotta give up three first rounders and a second rounder and a third. Okay, okay, all right.
Starting point is 01:00:17 And so that's the thing. And see, you look at, think about it. Look at what Minnesota gave up to get Rudy Gobert. Look at what the Knicks gave up to get Mikael Bridges. Right. And people automatically think, but Kevin, because of KD's age and his injury history, I mean, Mikael Bridges had Mr. Gave, what, five, six years.
Starting point is 01:00:36 It's true. I was shocked that Minnesota gave up what they gave up to get Gobert, because he's a one end player. He can only play at the defensive end. And you can't play him in the fourth quarter unless you play in the Lakers. And the Lakers don't have a big,
Starting point is 01:00:50 so you can leave his ass out there to roam. But other than that, you go back and study, go back and look at Rudy Gobert when he was in Utah. Go back and look at Rudy Gobert, not prior to this year. Look at him in the fourth quarter. He on the bench. I'm not giving up five first round before a guy that I can't play the entirety of the game, right? That's true
Starting point is 01:01:13 But I mean But then you got to think too Like the reason why they're keeping him is because he got those four defensive players a player of the year award So during the regular why I can't play him in the fourth quarter when I need a Defensive Player of the Year on the court. You're right, but I'm just thinking how the team is gonna look at it like, man, I'm producing the best defensive player
Starting point is 01:01:36 that we've seen in history as far as awards go and stuff like that. And we can say, people can say that as people who watch and play, but this is look at He has an award four times the impact that he's having on the floor regardless 80 should have got it this year last year last year Man but Rudy's impact might not show or I know a wimby or wimby I did man but Rudy's impact might not show up. Or Wimby, or Wimby.
Starting point is 01:02:05 I did like Wimby. Wimby let him lead the block shots and played 40 something games. Now that's who I had picked who should have won it last year. I think this one did. Okay, okay, I won't fight you then. That's who I had picked, I just think that his presence is why they keep him around.
Starting point is 01:02:20 He's 7'2". I mean come on, just think about it. He's 7'2", You can't teach height. You can't teach size. He can get up block size. Tell me how I teach him to stay on the court in the fourth quarter. Tell me how I teach that. Wait, it's hard. And he's a liability on defense in the fourth.
Starting point is 01:02:36 And the thing is, Dwight, he's not an own ball defender. He's a help defender. I'm not giving up no first round picks for no help defender. He's a help defender. He's not an on ball defender. He doesn't do good and they put his ass in the pick and roll. He can't move side to side. Guys get him going side to side to get him going downhill.
Starting point is 01:02:54 He's not like what you and Ben Wallace, when I think of guys, Draymond, when I look at guys that not only can they help, but they can defend on the ball. That's not what Rudy is. I think he's got better though. If you go back and look at a couple of years ago. To when he played Luca this year in the playoffs, he was able to play him one-on-one a little bit better.
Starting point is 01:03:15 They allowed him to actually play one-on-one defense. So I have been somebody who's always been saying like, man, it's crazy Rudy kid. You know, I don't see like his defensive like passion, but I could see that he's gotten better over the years with his defensive presence. It's just not, I don't think it's him. You know what I'm saying? Like he gots to get on the offensive end.
Starting point is 01:03:41 I think he got to get, yes, he got to get something going like end. I think he gotta get, he gotta get something going. Like at least he don't get, I mean, 10 points. Look, I get it. If he was giving me, let's just say for the sake of it, but Dwight, he was giving me 15. He was giving me 15 and 13. With those two and a half, three block shots again.
Starting point is 01:03:59 You got me. You good. Got me. Pick and roll, seal the small in the paint. Throw up the duck and he don't even have to look at the rim. He can go Pick and roll, seal the small in the paint. Go up and dunk it. He don't even have to look at the rim. He can go up and dunk it backwards. I'm damn serious.
Starting point is 01:04:10 Like he's, bro, I'm 6'11, 6'10, 6'11. So every time I wanted to dunk, I tried to jump my highest, my hardest, so I could clear the rim and dunk hard. He's 7'2. He ain't gotta jump that high. All he gotta do is be close to the rim. So he get this pick and roll action.
Starting point is 01:04:28 He go seal the big, he gotta be another option in their offense. That's the one thing that I think is messing up Minnesota is he's not an option on the offense again. So he becomes a liability. And I think later on in my career, that's what it was with me. I was great for the defensive side,
Starting point is 01:04:48 but I think a lot of times offensively, teams wanted to space the floor and I was not a floor spacing. And he had his lowest points since 2015-16. I mean, yeah. He averaged 12 points a game, that's the lowest he averaged since 2015-16. How many have? He averaged 12 points a game. That's the lowest he averaged since 2015-16. That's the second, he had the second fewest rebounds
Starting point is 01:05:11 since 2017-18. So what we, again, what we talking about about the white? I mean, I think about that. You got the numbers. He's not the own ball defender and his points and rebound are coming down. Now, I'm meant to say it like this, when you get on that island with these boys and these young men in the NBA, it's hard man, and you get deep up in that water.
Starting point is 01:05:34 What big man been dunked on more than Rudy? Nobody. Exactly. But look though, that's good. Everybody got a post-it with Rudy. He trying though, that's good. Everybody got a poster with Rudy. He trying, at least he trying. Hey, he gonna challenge everybody. Man, I don't play, hey, hey, Dwight,
Starting point is 01:05:52 I don't play 40, I don't pay 40 million for effort. I pay 40 million for results. But guess how he can back it up? He got four defensive players in year awards. He got it. Let me ask you a question. If we were to take a vote and we ask the players or we ask writers, who's gonna say Rudy Gobert
Starting point is 01:06:13 is the best defensive player in NBA history? Even though he and Big Ben got the most defensive players. Who's gonna say Rudy's the best? Who's going to say Rudy's the best? But is he a better defensive player than Hakeem Elijah one? Is it simple? Yes or no? No. No. I didn't think so. Okay.
Starting point is 01:06:36 But I mean, why? Say it. Okay, so I'm just thinking, I'm just thinking. Both ways like, all right, so Rudy is a team defender, help defense. Hakeem could play all positions, play defense against everybody. Could help own ball? Yeah, but the rules was different back then. The court is extended now than it was back in the day. So I'm kind of looking at it from both sides. Like I want to give Rudy some credit extended now than it was back in the day. So I'm kind of looking at it from both sides.
Starting point is 01:07:07 Like I want to give Rudy some credit because he got four defensive player of the year awards. Like regardless of how we want to put it, slice it, you still got four of them. They can't take the YouTube awards you got and all the awards you got. Everything you got back then, you earned it, right? No matter what anybody say, you did it.
Starting point is 01:07:27 That's what I'm saying about Rudy. I only got three, he got four, so. You got them all back to back, Dwight. They got tired of giving it to you, Dwight. They got tired of giving it to you. They ain't get tired of giving it to him, he French. And he must be talking another language, man. I should have learned another language
Starting point is 01:07:43 if I was in the league, man. I would have got another language, man. I should've learned another language if I was in the lead, man. I would've got another war, man. Hey, they got, they got, they got, but, but you, you're right. But, uh, can you imagine with Elijah Wong, with his, with his, with his footwork, if he had to play, how many points he would average? Because they, everybody had Biggs back then. Everybody, and you had two of them.
Starting point is 01:08:04 Yeah. Four. So you go you had two of them. Yeah, four. So he'd go against David Robinson, Patrick Ewan, Rick Smith, Mark Eaton. I mean, Robert Parrish, I mean, everybody had, I mean, it was true, it was the big. And everybody played inside out. Not everybody played outside in. And it's so far out that like,
Starting point is 01:08:23 if you were traditional big, like Rudy, it exposes the type of big you are. He's a traditional type of big. So he started out. He'd have been better in the 80s and 90s. Think about it, he started playing in my era. So he's used to the bigs being the four and fives, it's a six, 10, six, 11, and everybody's in the painting.
Starting point is 01:08:47 He used to be unable to tag and get back to a big that's rolling. Now it's picking roll, it's picking pop. So he trying to get back into a pick, they throw it out to his name, he's spotting a four, three, that's tough for him. Yeah, that's Yogi, that's a B. Yeah, yeah, that's pretty tough for him, but yeah, I just say he got full he got full he tried he tried
Starting point is 01:09:12 Boxing during the summer. He's trying to get his footwork, right? I just think his shoes to be he wears size to the phone You be true. What's how they wear? Size 24 issues be so tight shoe strings do with that. It look like he wear a size 24. His shoes be so tight, shoes straight, tight as hell. That's why he can't play defense. Hey, and plus he got a knee brace on. Yeah, I think he did he tear his knee at some point, so it's hard. I'm sorry, I don't know if we can say that word,
Starting point is 01:09:35 but them big old knee braces, they be in the way. He can't even move. Yeah, he can't move. They gonna pop, he look like a lineman out there with those knee braces on. He trippin'. Dwight, let me ask you this. Yannis has, do you think Yannis, you pickin' the, I'm pickin' you.
Starting point is 01:09:50 You got Dwight Howard. You're the starting center. And you get KD or you get Yannis. You can't have them both. You get one or the other. And the product? Yes. Ooh, that's so tough.
Starting point is 01:10:08 That's a good one. That's a good one, but I'm going KD. KD inside out attack. Me and KD inside out. That three level score. Yeah, I'm going to get guys that foul-tongue early and running the flow, get points in the paint soon. You going to easy buckets, because they going to have to that foul trouble early and running the flow, get points and the pants too.
Starting point is 01:10:26 You going to easy bucket because they going to have to get KD and then you going to dump it down and you going to dunk on them. I'm doing that but I'm getting easy busters, easy fouls early so now you can't foul KD so you can get the any shot you want to get to. Now the fourth quarter we picking up poison. We get to a drop, he playing a three, a drop 35, we catch it in the mid post, I'm gonna come send him a screen,
Starting point is 01:10:48 he come out that, he got his jump shot to the rim while he got me on the lob, it's over with three shooters in the corner. Do I live ask you a question? If you had played with Luca, and you know Luca loved the lob threat. Oh my God. Oh, my God. Crazy.
Starting point is 01:11:13 It's probably like Jason Kidd. Yeah, when I was playing in the Olympics, Jason Kidd, big tall point guard can see over everybody. Would have been crazy. Would have been crazy. Would have been crazy. The Volume The Made for This Mountain podcast exists to empower listeners to rise above their inner struggles and face the mountain in front of them.
