Starting point is 00:03:39 We've got Chargers receiver and the son of legendary. Jerry Rice, Brendan Rice, is joining us a bit later to talk about Rashan Slater's injury today and the Chargers' offense. But first, Ocho, Anthony Richardson was injured. Anthony Richardson was injured on the coach's second drive. He dislocated a pinky on his throwing hand. Damn. We can't show this because it's NFL property. Right.
Starting point is 00:04:08 Huh? Oh, no, I'm saying the play that happened. Ocho. I don't know if you saw the play. Yeah, somebody blew a assignment. I could, I could have seen it. He did. Hey, um, tell me not.
Starting point is 00:04:21 The tight end went out right. Isn't the running backs supposed to pick them up and not go to the flat? Both on free-released, Ocho is hot. Everybody seemed to run the right, right, know what it was except him. Oh, so the ball's supposed to go. Remember Justin Fields, his rookie year got his helmet taken off? Yeah. Because he missed it.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Right, the hot read. It's two people seemingly ran hot. Right. Because think about where the line went. The line went that way. To the left. Yes. The tight end hooks up.
Starting point is 00:04:51 the back runs a flat okay so okay okay okay so i thought somebody look i hope i pray it wasn't him because in your third year it can't happen oh cho you got to be able to see that but this is what i thought on i thought the titan went on his route right and i thought the running back was supposed to step up and pick up the end coming up since this since the line slid to the left that's what i thought the ends coming up and I thought the back was going to pick up from where the tight end left so I could be wrong I hope it's I hope it wasn't his fault we might not ever know yeah but there are a lot of people Jeff Schwartz said this is day one empty protection installed bummer for Richardson he didn't see it Kurt Warner
Starting point is 00:05:44 an early preseason example or having pressure plan O line sliding to the left quarterback responsible for the linebacker on the right he comes OT correctly squeezed for the guy way hot AR has to see this and ditch to the running back or the tight end right away days Daniel day one install damn damn when I saw it's like I show I show hope they blew this and not him right that's what I say it yeah Yeah, you got, you got to be able to see that. You got to be able to see it. Obviously, obviously when the quarterback comes to the line,
Starting point is 00:06:24 you point to the mic, anything outside of the mic, if more comes to the line sliding to the left, and more comes and you can block, boom, you got to know you hot. Mm-hmm. You got it, you got, you got to know it. You got to be able to see it. I hope, I hope the tight end or the running back blew that. I really do, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:06:42 I really do. If anything, it wouldn't be the tight end. Actually, I'm assuming maybe. I'm not sure. I just wanted to be somebody. other than Richardson's right yeah yeah I'm hoping because he's a quarterback right that is really day one empty protection because the line goes one way so anything that comes off that side right now I get it now if you got if you got if you slide the line one way and he's like
Starting point is 00:07:04 okay tied in you hot back but but if that's the case oh Joe why would it that's the why this is why makes me think it's Richardson right if the tight end think the back is going to pick him up he wouldn't need to be hot. You're only hot if nobody's coming, if nobody's there to block him. Okay, see, I didn't even know. If the tight end turns around and he thinks the back's there,
Starting point is 00:07:26 he's not hot because I got somebody. It would take two to make him hot. One doesn't make you hot because you got a blocker. Right. That's what makes me think. Now, I could be wrong, but we play. Actually, if the quarterback points to the mic, is too outside of the mic that would make you know it would be one guy came mocho huh one guy came
Starting point is 00:07:51 right if the line is sliding to the left outside line flies to the left it would take one it takes one okay if why if the tight end thinks the back is going to take that guy why would he run a hot route i didn't even know he ran a hot i thought he went into his route so you can you can be right you can be right i just saw the play i didn't he only ran five yards it's i mean it's a stick which would what you'll be, you know, the equivalent of a hot, right? Maybe it's a built-in hot. Right. Building inside adjust. But my thing is, is that
Starting point is 00:08:21 and that's what made me think, line goes here. Okay. If two come, yeah, we're hot. But only one came. So if the back was supposed to pick him up, the tight end wouldn't run hot. But like I said, the back could have blow the assignment. The back, theoretically, Ocho,
Starting point is 00:08:38 that could have been his responsibility. Right, right. I'm afraid we won't ever know because nobody going to throw nobody's under the bus. Listen, even though nobody's going to throw anybody under the bus. Now, you know you're going to have analysts, you're going to have punnings that are going to replay this tomorrow on TV, on all football platforms, and they're going to talk about it on who's at fault.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Yeah. Now, just based on what I saw, I was thinking, I thought the tight end just went into his route and I was thinking maybe the running back is supposed to step up and take on the end, which rarely happened because that's a complete mismatch. but you do sometimes get mismatches like that depending on which way the line slides. Oh, see, what they did is that they kind of ride a cross buck.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Right. The tackle squeezed down. Right. You take the most dangerous. You take head up, you take inside head up, most dangerous man. I'm going to turn the farthest guy. I'm going to let him run the furthest distance.
Starting point is 00:09:40 Right. Because I know the guy that's in the gap, he has the shortest distance. I see the guy coming. He has a shorter distance than the guy that's outside of the tackle that's coming from distance. So as I'm looking at it,
Starting point is 00:09:54 they brought two. Man, Ocho. It's hot, huh? I don't know if just the tight end, but all I know is he take like three steps and get his head around. Yeah, that's hot. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:10:05 That's hot rock. That's hot, right. That's hot on. And the back, and the back goes to the flat. I look I'm hoping that one of those other guys and I don't mean to put this on them but this is a horrible look. If Richardson missed this, Ocho, a third year guy and this is day one protection, this is not a good look. This is a downright awful horrible look for a guy that's in his third year and he's supposed to be the guy that's going to take you to where you want to go.
Starting point is 00:10:39 You can't miss that. No, you can't. You can't. Listen, you saw what Chase Daniels tweeted, right? That is take one install because when you install, you always install the hots for every single play. Every play, Unk has an install because at any point that they do blitz, defensively, they're always at an advantage because you can only block so many people. You can only block so many.
Starting point is 00:11:01 The other guy can block and Richardson block them with his chest. That ain't what you won't, though. You don't want your quarterback to be a blocker because he got the ball, Ocho. Yeah. Yeah, you got to. I mean, you look at the guy in the sloth. lot he take three steps and he gets his head around you see the back the back doesn't even make the the back tries to avoid him he didn't try to touch him no no so he's getting in the flat
Starting point is 00:11:24 damn man but here's the and and the thing is Ocho he's looking so I don't know man I don't know this is just a bad look if if he's the one that that that goof this I hope not I'm hoping it's the ladder I'm hoping I'm right you know for for for his sake obviously Yes, I do too. Yeah, I have a question. You would know that I have no, no knowledge of the extent of injuries and on how long it takes to recover.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Dislocated finger, how long are we looking at? It all depends. Do they have the, I mean, look, he can't throw without a pinky. You ever seen somebody throw with three fingers? I mean, four fingers? No, pinkie's very, very important. Yeah, that's the one that, how are you going to hold it?
Starting point is 00:12:11 Hey, man, where is the, AC, it's freezing in here. Hold on. This is a bad look, chat. I, like I said, and, and I'm saying this because as a quarterback, you cannot miss this. So maybe the, maybe the slot receiver, which is the, they said he's a tight end. I don't know. That's what Kurt Warner said.
Starting point is 00:12:42 he's a tight end. So I'm going to take Kurt Ward for it. Maybe that's what they had him listed as. But he was in an up position, Ocho. So basically the slot, he takes three steps. He turns around. He gets his head around.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Look at the back. The back is B-lining for the flat. So you have two options to go with it. Get the ball at your hands. You should go to the back because if you look at it, the safety cheats down. He takes that guy right now.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Right away. So you should go. to the flap right away yeah damn and then on not only do you make the mistake making the mistake and not seeing the hot now you hurt i can see if it was the sack and okay look we get we get to come back you've seen it on film obviously you're in your third year so you should be used to that look they're not they're not doing nothing everything is vanilla unc it's the preseason that is nothing exotic everything is vanilla so you should be able to see it ahead of time and i don't i don't know i don't know i'm hoping i'm hoping we're going to we don't know tomorrow though because
Starting point is 00:13:47 they're going to break it down everybody going to break it down yes god that's crazy man and the thing is oh cho the injuries i mean he's hurt he missed 13 games as a rookie he missed another four last year due to an injury that's 17 games in 34 so he's missed half he's missed half the snaps in his career 34 games 17 and 17 he's missed 17 so he's missed 50% wait a minute so he hasn't had a full season yet no I remember his shoulder last year
Starting point is 00:14:25 was it last year he dislocated his shoulder uh it's the shoulder he dislocated as a rookie okay and so okay but he he re-injured it if I'm not mistaken damn man and this is the year this is a make a break of year especially being in a quarterback competition with Daniel Jones. Well, hell, Daniel Jones looked no goddamn better.
Starting point is 00:14:43 No disrespect. Unk, he didn't look no better. He didn't look too promising. Oh, this is the quarterback of the future. Oh, Joe, but you got to realize he was also bitched. Oh, that's, yeah, for coming out the game. Coming out. That's right.
Starting point is 00:14:59 So he's missed more than half. What's next, um? I don't know, man. He's got to figure this out, Joe. Yeah. Damn. But, I mean, when you take a guy that's a, and everybody said, he's a project. He has phenomenal God.
Starting point is 00:15:19 He has gifts. Yes. Size, strength. He has a nice arm. He has an unbelievable arm. Yeah. You need to refine the touch, but he's a project. He's a project.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Damn. And this is not a good look. first game of the season, the second drive, Ocho? And you injured? Yeah. I could imagine, especially as a quarterback on, you already know how much. I might mess up, but I ain't messing up something that's going to get me hurt. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:53 You know, you know how much they have to deal with too. Yes. How much is on their plate coming to the line, you know, knowing what everybody's doing, being able to, you know, point out, I mean, oh, it's so much. Remember when I told you sometimes that I go in the huddle and I know how much Carson has to deal with and I want the ball and instead of bothering them or saying something verbally I'll just tap his hip just to put it in his mind just to let him know and then once I get out there I'll still won't say anything but let him know listen I know you got a lot to go through
Starting point is 00:16:25 you got to read to make you got to make a call and do your points talk to the officer line just to let you know I'm there yeah subconsciously that's the middle of the regular season this is the first game of preseason yeah ain't nobody running ain't nobody ain't nobody ain't nobody putting anything on tape they want to run at all this is this is day one day yeah yeah obviously yeah end up like damn gay this all we got yeah how about yeah cover one cover three you might get a look that's it i ain't doing nothing exotic at all i ain't doing no two man i might run i ain't clouding it I ain't doing, I ain't banjo in no coverage. I ain't doing none of that.
Starting point is 00:17:08 Yeah. Man, I just, like I said, Ocho, and I hate to put this on the running back or the tight end, but it would be better if you guys goofed this than him. Yeah. Damn, man. I was, I was looking forward. I was looking forward to him competing, you know, for that position. You're going to miss time.
Starting point is 00:17:31 Yeah. I mean, they probably went back in it. And the question is, what's his pain tolerance? That's a good one. Well, obviously, you could take these two, huh? No. As a quarterback and throw the ball, that's his throwing hand. He ain't catching no passes.
Starting point is 00:17:47 He ain't rushing no passer. He had a quarterback. You ever seen the quarterback tape two fingers together? On his throwing hand? Not on his throwing hand, no. No, it's okay. There you go. And you saw his finger.
Starting point is 00:18:00 It was sideways. Yeah, I know. i've had it i did my uh my ring finger like that and then i had to tape two of them together but i'm catching the ball i'm not throwing the ball right yeah damn man damn and his accuracy is is is it's challenged when all with five fingers are perfect come on i'm just being i'm just being truthful ocho and so i mean ohcho man you know look you know when when things aren't going well you need you be you need to be everything needs to be right your body needs to feel right i mean it's already a challenge right because you know ocho when
Starting point is 00:18:52 you injured and you don't have that you just don't feel like oh yeah bro it's hard to get open It's hard to cover people. It's hard to complete pieces. Now, imagine that you're nicked. It's just, it's not a good look. And I hate to belabor it. But like I said, I just hope. And like I said, they can break it down.
Starting point is 00:19:20 And Kurt said what he said. Chase Daniel said what he said. The other gentleman said what he said. But it looked like to me, the quarterback blue, it, but I'm hoping somebody else did. Right. Maybe the offensive line should have held off a little longer. I got to try to put it on somebody, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:19:38 He did. Hey, he gapped it. Squeezed it down. Right. I'm going to make this guy run the further. I'm making, it's kind of like on pump protection. You make the guy that's the furthest away run the furthest to block the punt. I don't want to get anybody an inside because they're closer to the punter.
Starting point is 00:19:55 Right. that's tough man that's tough that's a that's a that's you don't want to start the season off like that no i mean i know i don't want to get injured yeah at all that's the last thing you you you try to because you're not going to play a whole lot ocho you you're going to play 10 snaps maybe 15 snaps damn but i get nick on 10 to 15 snaps mm-hmm that's crazy hit that enough, Ocho. Yeah. Check out Behind the Flow,
Starting point is 00:20:34 a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved. San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team. We need veteran players and we need young players.
Starting point is 00:20:53 Like, you're building a team from scratch. And so the succession plan of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier, and we watched Ottawa against Chile, pouring rain, just watching the fans jumping up and down. I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me.
Starting point is 00:21:15 Not only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life. Listen to San Diego FC Behind the Flow. Now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Get fired up, y'all. Season two of Good Game with Sarah Spain is underway. We just welcomed one of my favorite people and an incomparable soccer icon,
Starting point is 00:21:40 Megan Rapino, to the show, and we had a blast. We talked about her recent 40th birthday celebrations, co-hosting a podcast with her fiancé Sue Bird, watching former teammates retire and more. Never a dull moment with Pino. Take a listen. What do you miss the most about being a pro athlete? The final. the final, and the locker room.
Starting point is 00:22:00 I really, really, like, you just, you can't replicate, you can't get back. Showing up to locker room every morning just to shi-talk. We've got more incredible guests like the legendary Candace Parker and college superstar AZ Fudd. I mean, seriously, y'all. The guest list is absolutely stacked for season two. And, you know, we're always going to keep you up to speed on all the news and happenings around the women's sports world as well. So make sure you listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain on the I
Starting point is 00:22:27 IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. I'm Jake Khofer, and this is Back 40, a limited series show on Wire to Hunt, part of Meat Eaters Podcast Network. Each episode, I'll be asking eight wide-tail hunting pros, a focused, thought-provoking question about hunting and land management. How do I hunt the best part of the farm with less than ideal access? Should you, that's what the real question is. stand without good access is not a good stand. Listen to Back 40 on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast,
Starting point is 00:23:02 or wherever you get your podcast. Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase made the best of their first preseason game of the season. Joe Burrow, 9 of 10, 123 yards, two touchdowns, chase, four catchers, 77 yards, a tub. Yeah, you saw it. You said, listen, Joe looked good. outside of that errant pass, the T. Higgins, that was a little high. But that's fine.
Starting point is 00:23:29 That's fine. This is, I will take, I will take what I just saw today. If we can do that next, if we can do that next week as well, get acclimated to the speed of the game. Get yourself ready. Get in rhythm because I don't care how much
Starting point is 00:23:43 you practice the team going against yourself. When you play on game day, it is completely different. Let's be ahead of the curve this time this season. Okay. We didn't got our feet wet. We know what the extent. expect. We know what it's going to be like. I understand Joe Burrell, okay, when I have to process
Starting point is 00:24:01 a little bit faster. Okay, I got to get his ball out a little bit faster. I got to anticipate a little bit better. Never may be. Instead of having to do that and find all those things out and try to find that rhythm week one when it's too goddamn late. There's no reason we should have lost to the Patriots last season week one. As bad as they were collectively as a team. we shouldn't have to rely on anybody else towards the end of the season in December relying on them to lose the game so we can make the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:24:33 That's what happens when you don't take care of your business. Now you're hoping and wishing somebody else do your job for you. We won't have that problem this year. I guarantee you that. We are 1 in 11. 1 and 11. I mean, you like what you saw,
Starting point is 00:24:51 the little bit of time there. I just want, hey, I don't care. Look, I want a score, but I want us to be sharp. I don't want penalties. I don't want mistakes. I want us to go in there. Hey, we got 10 plays. We got 15 plays.
Starting point is 00:25:05 I want those plays to be crisp. Clean. And they were crisp. They were crisp. If I'm not mistaken, we did get down to the goal line. It was a tripping. It was a low block, but he kind of failed. But he put the ref in a position where the ref had no choice but to call it.
Starting point is 00:25:21 because Mims was engaged with the D-N or with the tackle, actually. Oh, so he called a chop block. It called a chop block. But actually, the guard fell and he went low and it looked like to put the the ref in the bad position. He didn't have a choice but we still scored on that possession. Right. We didn't look good.
Starting point is 00:25:38 But offense isn't the problem. Offensive is the problem. We know we can score. We know we can put a points. Yeah. The problem is on the defensive side of the ball. Tama McKee look good too. Yeah, if we stole 35, can we keep the other team?
Starting point is 00:25:51 from scoring 36 and 37. That's the it. Y'all scored 14, gave up 7, and in the second quarter you gave up 17 more. Tanna McKee was 20 or 252 and two touchdowns. Hey, Tana McKee, Tana McKee, I heard you, I heard the grights about your offense of Madden rating.
Starting point is 00:26:13 You look good tonight. You look very good tonight. I know Goodwill backups ain't complaining about no ratings. No, hey, um, he, they complained about the ratings. If you look at my timeline, you probably don't look at my timeline, but chat, if you look at my timeline, you will see everyone talking about McKinney performance tonight in asking me to raise his rating based on what he's done in the preseason.
Starting point is 00:26:33 And he said in the clip in practice, oh, that's what my rating is. Okay, well, watch what I do on game day. And he went out there and actually showed out. He literally went out there and showed out tonight. It looked good. But I have a question. Do you credit what he did the day against twos and threes and fours and other people trying to make the team?
Starting point is 00:26:51 as a reason to raise the rating, I'm just curious. No, because guess what he's playing with, twos and threes and fours, and he's going against twos and threes and fours. Okay, so that doesn't... I mean, if Lane Johnson wasn't in there, if Ma Laude wasn't in there, if J. J. Benson wasn't in there,
Starting point is 00:27:04 if Dixon wasn't in there, if A.J. Brian and Devonte and Seekwan, so what are we talking about here? Did they play tonight? Let me click on this and see what they got going on. That's a good question. That's a good question. Because I see all the people tweet me,
Starting point is 00:27:20 and I didn't know how to answer it. is a player really, is it really justifiable and to raise someone's rating based on what they do in the preseason? No. I don't see, I don't see none of the names
Starting point is 00:27:35 that I don't see A.J. Brown. I don't see Devonte. I don't see Sequin. I don't see Jalen Hertz. Right. So he's going against, he looks like he's going against the competition that,
Starting point is 00:27:49 did your starters play pull up hello Ocho yeah you do realize your defense and starters played right yeah they played the first two series
Starting point is 00:28:04 and you happy with that oh absolutely not oh okay I was just checking absolutely not no oh man McKee was 2025 against your starters I don't know about I don't know about all that.
Starting point is 00:28:24 Damn. Don't do that. Don't do that. I don't do that. Don't do that. Don't do that. I mean, he did get a touchdown on the field goal against your starters. He got 10 points.
Starting point is 00:28:43 That ain't Jaila hurts. That's not Devante. That's not AJ. And that's not that. massive, that mammoth offensive line. Yeah. Are we sure? Are we sure it was our starters that were in once McKean? Is it McKean? I don't want to butcher's last name. McKean, right? McKee. Oh, McKee. Yeah, I don't know. I didn't really pay attention to to what we did defensively. Who was in defensively? I just was more concerned in making sure we came out
Starting point is 00:29:15 offensively, explosive, clean, and we were just at those first two series. Ooh. Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill. It's the preseason. The preseason is to get an opportunity for your guys to go on and bang on somebody, hit somebody that's not their teammate. Pause, pause, pause, pause.
Starting point is 00:29:42 pause come on tight up man but go ahead it's an opportunity for you to tackle block someone that's not in your uniform yes sir that's not in your locker room that you're not going to go sit in the dining hall and sit next to it and key key with
Starting point is 00:30:01 this is your opportunity to do that like what you're going to do in an actual game in the regular season so this is the first chance so you want to see how your guys handle that because they haven't done this before. Your rookies and a lot of
Starting point is 00:30:16 some of your first year players had never done this before in a meaningful situation like this, Ocho. So I want to see how they handle it. College is one thing. NFL is something entirely different. So I want to see how do they handle the moment? Completely different. I think
Starting point is 00:30:32 for the most part, based on what I saw, defensively, obviously there are things that need to be fixed. You get back tomorrow and watch film and see some things you need to correct. You're playing one of the better teams, one of the better well-coached teams at that, which is why I think your second and third stringers for the Eagles looked as good as they did against our defense, and you've got to tighten it up. As far as stuff that there's to build on to, offensively, you continue to build. You continue to build on what
Starting point is 00:31:02 we did tonight. Now, come to the second game, I don't know who we played the second game in the preseason, but I'm hoping the starters again, once again, Joe and Chase and T and Zach get a little bit more to get another point. series get three yeah bingo get get get three series you know if if if if you can then the third game everybody shut it down yeah everybody shut it down and get ready for week one yeah i agree i agree i agree with that approach um the thing is ocho the reason the reason why i don't want to do anything complex i want to be simple because i want my guys to play fast i don't want to thinking bro we got this is this is as simple as you're going to get this is steam rice this is broccoli
Starting point is 00:31:44 this is grilled chicken that's what this is no seasoning this is nothing special this is no added time no extra anything i just want you guys to play fast this is what we do we're going to call defenses that will allow you to play fast we're going to call an offense that's going to allow you to play fast yeah there'll be a time that okay we're going to add a little bit more more than that, Ocho, we're going to add a little bit, you know, you want a little season on this thing. I'm going to give you a little season. Yeah, the next game. Let's see. Now, the third game, your start is not going to play. Okay, guys. See, I mean, I like, because me, Ocho, I like that third game because we play four games.
Starting point is 00:32:26 I like the third game because we treated it like a regular season game. And you come out at the half, what you do? Because you come out of the half, you go right back in there. Hey, offense, there you are. Okay, defense, offense, be ready. Defense you up first. Yeah. To get you in the mood of coming out of the game, coming out at halftime,
Starting point is 00:32:46 and having to go back into the game. Yeah. Everything. That's it. Whatever we do in the preseason note, Joe, all it's doing is preparing us for the regular season. Yes, sir. It's giving us a dress rehearsal for the regular season.
Starting point is 00:32:58 You're going to run packages. We're going to run, hey, we want to look at, you know, short yardage. We want to look at our 12 personnel. We want to look at our 11 personnel. You want to look at our empty package. We want to look at our jumbo package. You want to look at gold line.
Starting point is 00:33:10 We want to look at a lot of different things. And so we're going to give us, give you an opportunity in the three games that you're going to play, we want to try to put you through as many situations that's going to come up in a regular season as we possibly can. Right. Sometimes we just want to get it on film, Mocho. We just want to get it on film. Nothing major, but I just want to see what it looks like. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:30 And you know what's funny. You know what I'd also like about the preseason is football and its. simplest form and it's purest form, but you line up and it just smash mouth football. Yep. No, no, like you said, no seasoning, no creativity. We're not scheming for the Eagles. The Eagles aren't. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:33:50 We just lining up and playing football. Can you get out there, make the blocks you need to make? Can you stop, stop the receivers? Can the receivers get open? Just, it's just normal football. Can you do that at a high level and can, consistently. That's all I want to see.
Starting point is 00:34:09 Oh, Joe, Trevor Lawrence says he wants Travis Hunter to play more offense. He said selfishly, yeah, I definitely want him on offense more. I told him, do you want to see, you want to come catch touchdowns, or do you want to maybe break up a pass or to a game? That's the decision you've got to make. Of course, as a quarterback, I hope he plays more offense. Travis was asked, how difficult has it been to work both sides of the ball. It's not hard at all, if I'm being honest.
Starting point is 00:34:35 the first off day that we had, I came back and did both sides, and that's the thing that got to me. After that, I've been good. Travel would play both sides in Jacksonville's preseason game against the Steelers. That won't answer
Starting point is 00:34:51 Devonte's whether or not playing at a high level. Because like I said, he's going to have basic defense when he's playing a corner, you're going to have basic plays on offense. But look, until we get to the regular season, Ocho. Right. And until he has to play both sides, until he plays both
Starting point is 00:35:09 sides of the ball, we're going to be watching the level at which he plays. That's what we're concerned. I think you and I and a lot of people are in agreeance. Yeah, he can play both sides. Yeah. But what's the level in which you're going to play at? Because football is about levels, especially when you're the number two in picking the draft. Yeah, absolutely. You know what I like, on what you like his confidence on the fact that he believes he can do it that's where everything starts with in the beginning anyway yeah the belief that i can do something having the confidence that i can do it and putting the work in to be able to do it and then not only does he have the goddamn confidence on he also has a skill set yes he has the he has the instincts to be able to pull
Starting point is 00:35:55 it off on both sides of the ball now i agree get a small sample size of that now you've done it in practice. Doing into practice is one thing. Hell, you know what's coming half the time. You know what they're doing. They know what you're doing. But how are you going to look in the precinct in the game? You get a small symbol size. You're not scheming for anybody. You have joint practices. But again, on game day, chat, I don't know how to explain it to you. It's just different. It's just different. There have been some times in practice. I feel like I'm running fast as hell and they get in the game and I'm moving, but it feels like I'm running in the sand. But I'm not. it just feels like I'm heavy
Starting point is 00:36:33 but you know and I go back and I watch it and I go come to the saddle I ask you I say you I don't know what's wrong but it feels like I'm running slow and he would look at me like nah it's not like it's not that you just don't feel like you do in practice because it's a game
Starting point is 00:36:48 the adrenaline everything is moving you know you're playing fast okay you sure okay yeah I'm good but it's different so I'm excited to see not how he doesn't practice yeah that's one thing When do they play? When do the Jack Wals play?
Starting point is 00:37:04 They play all night, don't it? A Saturday. Saturday. Saturday. Okay. Hey, they play, you know, I might go, please tell me it's in Jacksonville. I might shoot down to the game. Where's the game, Ash?
Starting point is 00:37:24 Please, please say it's in Jacksonville. It's in Jacksonville. Say less. Now I got, got. something to do i got something to do i could i could i could watch that right up in close in person okay bet hey i'm excited man that's gonna be nice yeah but it's it's it's gonna be he's gonna have to be locked in yes for the entirety of the game on on the deep you know quarterback i'm only locked in when i'm you know because guess what don't y'all i ain't worried about what the
Starting point is 00:37:52 defense do it i'm not even paying attention to the defense right i got my responsibilities he's never in a situation where he doesn't have responsibility I think I think you're going to be all right though I think I'm so excited it's like I'm almost like a kid the night before Christmas yeah the excitement that football is here that is here happy I'm definitely here but then knowing okay we got a dynamic player and where everyone's doubting what he can do, you know. No, no, no, no, no. They're not what he can do.
Starting point is 00:38:32 They doubting he can do it at the level in which he did it. They know he could do it. So that's the part that makes me excited, that has me excited. Let's see if he can. Let's see if you can. It's no different than the Canelo and goddamn Bud fight that's coming up. Again, got me feeling like a little kid at Christmas. We understand how great Canello is.
Starting point is 00:38:52 We understand Bud is going up two-way classes against someone who is a slugger. Heavy hit him. How is it going to play out? Well, what's up? What? Man, listen, man, if I had your hands, I'd cut mine off. That's about it. All right.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Without any further ado, he was the former seventh round draft pick out of USC, played two seasons at USC, play two seasons at Colorado, the son of legendary, the all-time great, the goat receiver, Jerry Rice. Brandon, how you doing, man? Check out Behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved. San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team.
Starting point is 00:39:46 We need veteran players and we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch and so the succession plan of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier, and we watched Ottawa against Chile, pouring rain, just watching the fans jumping up and down. I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life.
Starting point is 00:40:15 Listen to San Diego FC Behind the Flow. Now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Get fired up, y'all. Season two of Good Game with Sarah Spain is underway. We just welcomed one of my favorite people and an incomparable soccer icon, Megan Rapino, to the show, and we had a blast. We talked about her recent 40th birthday celebrations, co-hosting a podcast with her fiancé Sue Bird,
Starting point is 00:40:44 watching former teammates retire and more. Never a dull moment with Pino. Take a listen. What do you miss the most about being a pro athlete? The final. The final. and the locker room. I really, really, like, you just,
Starting point is 00:40:57 you can't replicate, you can't get back. Showing up to the locker room every morning just to shit talk. We've got more incredible guests like the legendary Candace Parker and college superstar AZ Fudd. I mean, seriously, y'all. The guest list is absolutely stacked for season two.
Starting point is 00:41:14 And, you know, we're always going to keep you up to speed on all the news and happenings around the women's sports world as well. So make sure you listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain on the Iheart radio app, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. I'm Jake Hofer, and this is Back 40, a limited series show on Wire to Hunt, part of Meat
Starting point is 00:41:35 Eaters Podcast Network. Each episode, I'll be asking eight wide-tail hunting pros, a focused, thought-provoking question about hunting and land management. How do I hunt the best part of the farm with less than ideal access? Should you, that's what the real question is. Stand without good access is not a good stand. Listen to Back 40 on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm good, Shay, how are you?
Starting point is 00:42:02 I'm good, man. Thanks for coming on, bro. I appreciate you having me. Most definitely. Also, congratulations, you and your brother, both in the Hall of Fame, man. That's huge. Appreciate that, man. Appreciate that.
Starting point is 00:42:14 Earlier this week, the quote was, Rice is coming off his best practice in the charges uniform Sunday. He caught two touchdowns in 11-on-11. Lance attempted another fade to, uh, to, Rice, Rice jumped over the corner, Leonard, and made a contested catch for a touchdown. You admit that you understand that I'm in a battle. I mean, there ain't a whole lot of receiver spots available. It might only be one, and it might be two or three guys vying for that one spot.
Starting point is 00:42:40 What has been your mindset coming into camp and what's been your mindset once you got into camp? Honestly, I've chased competition my whole life. So being in the battle, it's never something. something new to me, especially dealing with, like, there's always adversity. There's always another thing that's coming upon you. And it's just how you go ahead and tackle it each and every day. Hey, I got a question for you, young boy. The pressures of having to live up to the legacy of your father, have you been able to deal with that? Obviously, having a father that is known as one of the greatest and the pressures of you, most of the time, people expecting you to
Starting point is 00:43:23 be and follow in his footsteps and be just as great as he is, has it been any type of pressure on you to kind of get out of the shadows of dad and create your own way in a sense? Man, pressure is a privilege. Yeah. Oh, that's a good. Hold on. I mean, look at your son. I got to write that down. Hold on. Hold on. Yeah, yeah, go ahead. Oh, shoot. I'm going to put that in my notepad. Say it again. What was that? What you said? That pressure is a privilege. Yeah, I got the last name. You know, shoot. I dealt with it my whole life. All I felt was pressure. All I dealt with was people
Starting point is 00:44:05 commenting. And, you know, that's what it is when you're in the spotlight. Right. Especially when my dad did. He was super humble about how we approach certain things, put the work in each and every day. You got to respect that, but I'm my own person as well. but let me ask you this if you could have a conversation with Shadour because we understand that his father is Coach
Starting point is 00:44:28 Prime and there's always even though he did see the thing with you the pressure is because you played the same position as your dad. Shadur didn't play the same position as his dad but what advice would you give him honestly I have no advice to give him Shador got his head on straight he knows how to
Starting point is 00:44:45 go ahead and be that I would have to say that public figure in the media and how to go ahead and handle certain things. The dude is awesome. The dude has been terrific ever since he was at Jackson State to Colorado, man, and how he carries himself and how that whole family is just structured.
Starting point is 00:45:04 It's awesome to see. The news came out. I think it was official yesterday that Keenan Allen returned. He spent all but one year there. He left last year, went to the Bears, had a phenomenal season. Now he's back. Um, and you know, like, damn, they did bring it back for a reason.
Starting point is 00:45:24 I mean, there ain't no sentimentality here. They, hey, they feel he can still play. But you, but you understand. I'm sure your dad has told you that, you know, he got to where he got because of hard work, discipline, and dedication. And so you expect to like, I'm going to come in. I'm competing for a job. I understand that.
Starting point is 00:45:41 My last name, people are not going to keep me on the team because of my last name, because he's not out here catching passes. Honestly, yeah, man, like Keenan already has just shown that he's that leader in the group for it. You know, he's an old head. I'm giving him a little crap talking and everything. You know, both of y'all old heads too. Shoot. But just the way I've seen him go ahead and position himself and he's not coming in demanding anything of everybody. He's coming in, putting in the work just like us. And I'm just watching his craft that way he, works and stuff like that. And it's something crazy, something that I haven't seen in like my
Starting point is 00:46:25 whole career, my whole life, anything, even though, yes, my dad, cool, I wasn't, I wasn't of age yet. But like, just seeing that and see who he is, just goes ahead and drives me to put myself in a position, handle myself in a correct role, put that work ethic in each and every day, and let everything just let the dominole's fall. Yeah. I mean, what, one, One thing about it, when you put the work in, work in, and this is just not, this is life in general, no matter what people do, whether it be football, whether it be soccer, whether be in the corporate world, when you put the work in, the food's your labor, they always rise to the top.
Starting point is 00:47:04 You always get paid dividends for the work you put in. And obviously, we know you put in all the work every time you step on that field in practice, whether it be the preseason, that's part of your resume. Yes, sir. That's your resume. So when the opportunities do present themselves for you in L.A., all you have to do is make the play. That's all to come down to. Can we count on Brother Rice to make the play when his number is called?
Starting point is 00:47:29 Whether we call your number five times, whether you call your number one time. Can you make that play? And once you take care of that part of your end of the bargain, there's nothing else you can say. May the chips fall where they make. Brendan, every time you step on the field, just remember you're auditioning for 31 other teams. The charges are not the only one that pay players. There are 31 other teams.
Starting point is 00:47:54 That film, that's, that's your, that's your, that's your, your, your, your, your, your, your, your, your, your, your, your time you step on that field, you make sure, you update that resume. They say you're supposed to update your resume now every six months, but in sports, you get an opportunity to update it every day, every other day, once a week. you make sure that when you step on that field you putting that resume out there for 31 other team hey I'm the charges yeah you got first track you got first crack at this
Starting point is 00:48:26 I'm giving you first a first opportunity to buy this but if you don't yes sir that's how that's how you have to approach it every even when you year two when you in year three when you're in year four it does not matter. Because all I want is, if somebody get tired of me, I want somebody else to want me. Put that on tape.
Starting point is 00:48:55 Yeah, he's speaking that gospel. Hold on, hold on, hold on. Say that again. When somebody, what? I got, I got to put it in my notes because they ain't got that. Yeah, but you got, Ocho, Ocho, you know how it is. When somebody else doesn't want you, you want someone else to want you. Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:49:13 Ocho. Yeah. I like it. I like it. Hey, Brendan, the big news out of training camp today, Rishon Slater, signed a massive contract, offensive lineman, ruptured his Patel attendant. Wow.
Starting point is 00:49:31 What was the mood of practice? I mean, because obviously you don't know the severity of it. You just know he goes down. He's grimacing in pain. And if I'm not mistaken, I think I read they carted him off the field. But you don't know the severity of it. Now, you know the severity of it. What was the move when it happened?
Starting point is 00:49:47 What was the mood around the team? Around the team, everybody just kind of gasped out, I would just have to say. Immediately said a prayer for him after, you know, he's one of those guys that handle business off and on the field and carries himself in such a manner. Rashon Slater, just in the time being around him, he is nothing but being greatness, honestly. He's great at everything he does.
Starting point is 00:50:16 And shoot, though the worst part about it is as a team, as a unit, we're in the next man up mentality, even though that definitely is going to hurt us, but we've got to move on and push ourselves to the next step so we can hopefully win the Super Bowl this year. Look, you were there, you've been there for two years, and you've seen Justin Herbert phenomenally talented, athletic. But, like, people, the criticism that he gets is that, big games and winning in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:50:46 What's the biggest misconception that's portrayed about Justin in the media that you can set straight like, it ain't like that? Honestly, I have no misconceptions to even address. This dude literally came into the huddle the other day breaking us down. He's like, honestly, I have nothing to say to you. I'm tired of speaking. Let's just win this damn Super Bowl, like straight like that. And the doonies phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:51:12 I kid you not, I've seen to make some crazy throws. But I've never seen somebody like this in my life. Just the way he carries himself and everything, yeah, y'all are going to see. Y'all just prepare yourselves. I got a question. The fact that you play receiver son to the greatest receiver of all time. But when it comes to studying the craft, the artistry, when it comes to rock running today, who would be your top five receivers in today's game and whose film do you watch
Starting point is 00:51:42 and try to steal bits and pieces from them. Okay, number one. I'm definitely going to Julio. I watch Julio like crazy. That's a good one. Yeah, for sure, just from my archetype and everything, my body. Right. Either way he's able to break down, get in and out of routes.
Starting point is 00:52:04 It's beautiful. Him, Calvin Ridley. Ocho, of course I watch you, Big Dog. Me? Yeah, I watch you for the disease. Just so we know, we like a 20-pound difference. Wait, I'm 2. I'm 220 right now. Right now.
Starting point is 00:52:19 When you played. When I played, I was like 170, 171. Exactly. I was little. I was little. Yeah, I can give you three so far. AJ Brown, for sure. Okay.
Starting point is 00:52:31 Crazy. And my last one, I would have to go to Brennan Ayyuk. Ooh. That's a good one. When it comes to your style of play, Are you one that enjoys and welcomes contact like a Julio and A.J. Brown? Like, if somebody touch me, the play is over. Like, I'm not getting off.
Starting point is 00:52:53 I'm just saying, are you one that can play through contact and it is comfortable, allowing hands to be put on you, being able to put, you know, pull and tug and do stuff like that? Of course, of course. Shoot, contact is my friend. Okay. I feel like I'm bigger in the weight room. Right, right. I bench more. I do all that types of stuff.
Starting point is 00:53:10 I bring myself a little bit different. So when I go against certain corners, yeah, that's my friend. But, of course, no receiver like getting touched now. Right, right, right. Yeah, no, no, no. And for me, that was my weakness. I know what my weaknesses were. Contested catches, don't do it.
Starting point is 00:53:27 I'm going to lose every time, which is why I had no choice but to create the type of separation I did when I played because I suck at contested catches. 50-50 balls, dude, I can't do it. I suck at 50-50 balls. Now, everything else, I'm not. good at, but my coaches understanding my weaknesses never put me in those positions to what I would get exposed. Yes, sir. That's dope. That's dope. That's dope. That's dope. That's dope. That's dope. That's dope. Brendan, did you find, obviously, Jerry being your dad and everybody knows what he
Starting point is 00:53:57 means and meant to the league and how great he was. Did he put pressure on you? Or did you want to play, did you just want to play football and just happen to gravitate towards that position? Well, to be honest, off rip, uh, me and my pops didn't have. the best relationship growing up okay so football was my gateway it was my out and that and christ himself uh man like the way i just went ahead and developed into the game and took it as just my it was my escape from reality and even though yes i'm playing the same position everything it felt as though i was getting closer to him by playing the game of football and then i went ahead and put so much work into my craft and studying the game
Starting point is 00:54:42 and everything like that that all I wanted to do was get better get better get better and hopefully I don't know if there is one be the first father son do in a Hall of Fame just like oh man hopefully USC
Starting point is 00:54:58 Big Ten you like the chance of this year come on now come on man come on we believe that come on fight on big dog
Starting point is 00:55:11 man y'all they do too much fighting on though brend the last couple years y'all they've been fighting on y'all been trying to fight them off one more year you know they always knock you when you down man it's okay it's okay you should yeah hey you know you know what I want to ask about
Starting point is 00:55:31 Ladd McConkey is lead I call them Laddarius I'm adding he I'm called you Darius McConkey. Is he as good as advertised based on what we see on Sundays? He's better. He's better. The things that y'all see on Sundays are just a glimpse of his greatness and what he
Starting point is 00:55:54 has put into the game. I saw this dude go over here, Justin, do a beautiful ball on just so, you know, a deep cross. And he did a late hands between two defenders, and it was nasty, man. From his route running, his technique, how he carries himself. each and every day. Yeah, he does only saw a glimpse. He's special. Well, Brendan, thanks for
Starting point is 00:56:14 stopping by giving us a few moments of your time. Best of luck. Stay healthy. Hey, remember, 31 others are watching. 3,000 others will watch it. Hey, don't forget, man. Come hollet your boy, man, wide receiver workshop next year, man.
Starting point is 00:56:31 Man, I'm trying to get him working sooner than that. I'm saying you some tape over soon. Come on, come on. Send it to me. Listen, I've had a lot a lot of players. I don't want to say no name because I got in trouble last year. Devante Adams sent me some one-on-one film
Starting point is 00:56:44 and I was so excited. He didn't want to say no name. And he got in trouble. Oh, sure. Like, why you're posing? But, man, send me some stuff, man. I got you. I got you.
Starting point is 00:56:54 All right. Best of luck, man. Stay healthy. Thank you. All right, bro. Appreciate you. I appreciate it. Oh, Joe, Roma, Dunesay
Starting point is 00:57:04 has an incredibly high ceiling for Caleb Williams. ESP and Jeremy Fowler reported Roma Dunezay told me Caleb Williams can literally be the best quarterback in the NFL. Ocho, can you see Caleb making that big of a jump? Absolutely. I can see him making that big of a jump simply because of the person that's calling the plays. I can see him making that kind of jump simply because of the person that's calling the plays. Ben Johnson is phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:57:32 If you see what's able to do with Jared, with Gerrigoff, right? in the tools that Jerry Gough had at his disposal. How can I get the best version of Jerry Gough? You understand what he has around him and how to put the players in position to their strengths and you go from there. He can do the same thing with Caleb Williams because Caleb Williams has all the tools.
Starting point is 00:57:55 We saw the magic at USC. Yep. Lymphs of what he can do with the Bears last year. Now you got DJ Moore. You got a dunzee. You got Commet. Did I say that right? Cole, Commet.
Starting point is 00:58:09 You got Commet. Man, they're going to be all right. He knows what Caleb is great at. He knows his strengths. He understands that. And you just make the play calls with the creativity that he adds to the offense. That's why Rome was able to say what he did about Caleb being one of the best in the game today. Packers' offensive coordinator Adam Stenevich was asked last one.
Starting point is 00:58:35 week if he'd like Jordan Love to run a little bit more. Absolutely, Stennavich said bluntly. I think it's a huge weapon and Jordan has that ability to make some big plays down the field. We encourage that for sure. Love ranked 30th in quarterback rushing attempts. Today, Love said he's going to run more this season. I think every game that there's a couple of options or instances where I could have took off
Starting point is 00:58:59 and run. You look back and you're like, man, I could have took off and run. But excuse me, a little bit is just understanding what the defense is doing, what coverage we're getting, how the D-Line might be playing. Some of those games where they start twisting and doing different things, understanding where holes in the pocket might be and have the opportunity to step up and escape. And then just understanding that maybe sometimes, maybe not, go back to the checkdown right now. Maybe take an extra second to find a lane, get out there and create an opportunity with your
Starting point is 00:59:30 legs. So I think half and half with the injury and then some understanding of where those times are to take off and use your legs. I like it. It's cool. But there's a reason why he was 30 in the NFL and Russian, huh? There was a reason. Have you seen that FN's receiving court over there? Reed and Hicks and Watson and, and hold on, hold on. Now golden. I mean, man, listen, there's really no reason to run because there's so many viable options when you're throwing a goddamn ball. There's a reason he was 30 in the Russian last year. can he do it in certain situations being that is a dual threat he can run
Starting point is 01:00:05 he's not the slowest you know slowest quarterback in the league yes he can do it when he need be he's a dual threat in the sense but when you had that kind of weapon around you there's no need to have to run you don't they got a goddamn four by one team an underrated young receiving corps
Starting point is 01:00:22 you're right she run for run for what when you got all that but you want you know keep them honest because you know, Ocho, I'll set my defense. If I know you're not going to run, I'll play certain coverages. I want, I want you to,
Starting point is 01:00:39 I want you to worry about that. You see what happened when Patrick Mahomes started taking off? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Now they couldn't defensive me anymore. Now he'll take, he don't want to run. No. But I tell you what, he'll jump through the crack on you. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:00:52 You're right. Just have that ability. Look, we're not asking you to be Lamar. You don't need to be Lamar. You don't need to be Josh Allen. you don't need to be Jalen Hurts. But there are times, there are times, who? Just sprinkling it a little bit, sprinkling it in a little time.
Starting point is 01:01:08 That's it. A little parsley. That is all you have to do, just enough to have. So the defensive coordinator, hey, we need to close that off. Well, if I'm thinking about closing that off, I'm not this thinking pinning my ears back thinking about getting to the quarterback. Because now I have to rush with a little bit more respect. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:01:27 because you want those delameters because they'll respect you they come get you hey ears pin back so you just can't just you just can't willingly just go back there oh i'm gonna knock lamar head off okay all right oh i'm oh i'm gonna get oh i'm gonna tear josh up okay you mess ride and run past him if you want to and he jump out the wind on you you'd be mad you won't catch him to like 10 15 yards down the field exactly So I think that's a situation. That's what he said. He said, look, I just got to understand the coverage, what they're doing.
Starting point is 01:02:03 Okay, they twist, somebody vacate, and our offensive line do a great job of picking it up and pushing somebody past. There's an escape hatch. I might well take it. Yeah, sure, it might come open. But let me go on to get this easy team right now. Yeah. We come back to it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:20 Now, because the coach is going to tell him, son, you can't do that. You can't get out your lane. Mm-hmm. You can't get pushed. you can't get washed that far down. You can't get that far up field. Now he's thinking about a whole lot of other things as opposed to just coming to get me.
Starting point is 01:02:35 Right. He who hesitate is beat. Every time. Whether you play offense or defense. Yeah. As an offensive player, I'm trying to make the defense hesitate. As a defensive player, I'm trying to make the offensive player hesitate. Well, if I can just go out there with no hesitation, oh, whoa.
Starting point is 01:02:55 Yeah. Right. Listen, he'll have those opportunities. If I'm not mistaken, they go from open a lot. I mean, they run the spread a lot. He's in the gun a lot. Obviously, he is on the center. If I had the statistics or the percentage in which they go from the gun,
Starting point is 01:03:10 I think it's more than being on the center. I think on third down would be, will probably be most of the times where he would be able to be a dual threat. Yeah, for sure, yeah, yeah. The first thing he can do is they're going to play man unless they want to bless him. They're going to play man
Starting point is 01:03:26 and everybody going to have their back turn and you'll be able to use your legs and that would be advantageous for him in adding that arsenal of being a dual threat and just running a little bit more. And plus they don't expect it. I mean on third down
Starting point is 01:03:41 and third like I got to play I can't I just can't arbitrarily or willy-nilly because Lamar going to get that. Josh Allen going to get that. Jail and Hurts going to get that. They're not looking at Joe and Love as one of those door one of those dual threat quarterbacks.
Starting point is 01:03:57 So he has the element of surprise. Yeah. You know who has it too long? Speaking of quarterbacks that it's not even a surprise anymore, especially off what he did last year, Jane Daniels. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:11 But see, Harry, the thing, Ojo, the man won the Heisman trophy. You know he got wheels. He ain't got no element of surprise. He ain't got no element of surprise. Right. You trying to make him beat you from pocket. And then you say, you know what, if he beat me from the pocket, Ocho, he can run
Starting point is 01:04:27 for 100 yards. Yeah. I mean, it's like, you know, guys like Lamar and guys like Josh Allen, they can run for 100 yards. Jane Daniels can't just like, oh, he, yeah, he can beat you with his legs. The thing is, it's like when Brady used to hand the ball off on 3rd and 1, you clap. I'd rather running back had a ball than Tom Brady. I don't give a damn who the running back is. Right. That's Tom Brady. Peyton Manning hand the ball off.
Starting point is 01:04:59 Like, ooh, thank you, Jesus. So, Jane Daniels with the ball upon his arm? No, I'd rather you throw it. Right. Who's going to tackle it in the open field, Ocho? Good luck getting him down. Now, he didn't broke the line of scrimmage. And you think the first guy that see him going to get him down?
Starting point is 01:05:22 No, but it's, always going to be someone on the second level, and they are not good in open space. Yeah. They're going to be second level to try to, well, I hope I got an angle so I can push him out of bounds. I don't want to be in the middle of field with him. I don't want to be between the numbers with him. Mm-mm.
Starting point is 01:05:38 And he got a two, he got a two-way go? Mm-mm. I'm good. Right. I'm good. Man, when them Broncos played, that's what I went in a win. When y'all play? All I know, we made a play out last year.
Starting point is 01:05:56 Y'all who? Playoffs. I mean, I think if you were no, something you wouldn't know nothing about last year. Y'all made the, y'all made the playoffs last year, right? But did you end up in the same place? You ended up in Cancun? What that's just a week later, right? We got an extra check.
Starting point is 01:06:09 We made more money in y'all there. You know, a little playoff check. That, hey, you know, oh, that, oh, that's, hey, Ocho, that'll keep you for about a month or two. Yeah. The both playoff check, they hit. Yeah, they're nice. They nice. so hold on are you saying are you suggesting are you suggesting based off what you saw the small
Starting point is 01:06:27 sample side that you saw from my bangles tonight you really think that the broncos is going to be better than us offensively oh joe i saw what about you think based off that sample size i saw your defense y'all going to be better defensively i mean from based on what i saw what i saw tonight we could put up 40 a game huh i think we can put up 40 a game based on what i give up 43 three. Let's see how you put up. I saw Joe Burrow throw for 400 and lose. I saw him throw for 370 and lose. I saw you score 38 and give up 41. I saw you score 34 and give up 35. So what you're talking about? So what you're saying? No, it's a new year, right? You talk about what we did last year. You know, your defense is still same. Okay, tell me the improvements that you made
Starting point is 01:07:15 defensively. Your best defensive player has yet to get on the field. Oh, he'll be there. He'll He'll be there. He'll be there, but we're going to be better than y'all. I can tell you that right now. And I hope, I hope when the Broncos do play, I hope Bo Nix in the offense. I hope they get out there for a full quarter, too. I hope they do.
Starting point is 01:07:39 Don't worry about what we do. See, there you go. You worry about us. I'm just, I'm listening. I'm just, I'm just, we're just talking football. That's all. Yeah. That's it.
Starting point is 01:07:49 All I know is that our defense, It's better than y'all's. Oh, yeah. Okay. Now, I can give you that. Now, listen, I can give you that. I'm a man. I can be a man.
Starting point is 01:07:57 I can be real about myself and live in reality. Your defense is better than ours. It is offensive. But I don't say, that ain't say it much. That's like saying water wet. That's not necessary. That's not necessary. There's no need to take a shot at my team like that.
Starting point is 01:08:12 That's okay. I didn't take a shot at your team. I just tell the truth. I mean, I'm saying the Broncos's defense is better than the Bengals. Like, okay, Shannon, like, wow, you really went on a limb on that one. Okay, but our offense. is 20 times better than yours. I wouldn't go that far, but your offense is better.
Starting point is 01:08:28 Yes, your quarterback is better than ours. Y'all receivers are better than ours. Offensive line, I don't know. You can go either way. Yeah, but do we play off? But it balances out. And that's why the game was so close last year because it balances out because I defense.
Starting point is 01:08:44 Hmm. And that was a rookie. Bo Nix is not going to make those mistakes that he made last year. Okay. Okay. we don't play y'all this year i'm assuming right no i think we do again i think so you want to put someone that game or no no until you put 59 hundred in my pocket i don't want to bet you no more as a matter of fact i'm about to stop talking to you
Starting point is 01:09:21 Real close. Hey, Hey, Thanos said my daddy coming real close. Not to talk with you, Ocho. Hey, hell no. Oh, how about it? Honestly, matter of fact, we can make it really interesting. We can really make it really interesting.
Starting point is 01:09:36 Is you could put the dog on the line. Oh, Thanos? Yeah, put the dog on. If you're that confident in your Broncos and as confident as I am in my bangles, I guarantee you we go further in this season, host season at that. than y'all do matter y'all might not even make it and if you if the bank if if the broncos lose you got to give me thanos for the rest of the year you're going too much are he going to you can travel with me he can travel with me i got a bag and he fit right in no he'd say he don't want to travel
Starting point is 01:10:13 my man my man hey my man fading fast on me ocho i thought he's what up twin I know. Hey, let me go put him to bed. All right. Take it over. You got it. Hold on. Hey, I'm going to get a chat with my spoken word stuff.
