Boost Mobile Network together with our roaming partners covers 99% of the US population. 5G speed not available in all areas. Ocho, Matt McClung was the dunk contest. Yeah. Three Pete. Uh, Job might enter next year. Levine said he might come back one time. Uh, Yannis on the twi- Yannis, you- we've seen you in the dunk contest. No, no. You're too tall. You're too tall.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Not only is he too tall, Giannis doesn't have the creativity. He doesn't have the creativity to win. Now, you know, first round, you might do a little something, but you don't have the creativity to go deeper into the rounds for the dunk contest, man. Right. He said, I got hacked.
Starting point is 00:05:25 My kids tweeted that. They came next to my nightstand, took my phone out of the charger, went in their room and tweeted, I found out this morning. Yeah, but see, that's the thing. And people get upset about LeBron, LeBron didn't enter. I don't look at LeBron as a creative dunker.
Starting point is 00:05:41 I look at LeBron as a power dunker. And if he goes against someone that's creative, he's gonna lose. He's gonna lose. He's only a few ofer, I look at LeBron as a power dunker. And if he goes against someone that's creative, he's gonna lose. He's gonna lose. He's gonna lose. He's only a few of them, man. He's only a few of them. Right, but you look at a Zach Levine,
Starting point is 00:05:54 you look at, who was the other, Aaron Gordon, you look at some of those guys like that, you look at a Vince Carter, you look at guys like that, they're creative dunkers. You see when Jordan, see Dominique lost to Jordan, I do think Dominique was, oh, I think Dominique, but you see when Jordan came with the creativity, doing all this, and the up and under, and the doing all this stuff that we hadn't seen before, and you like, Because before that it was one hand power dunk dunk it over the free throw line
Starting point is 00:06:30 Jordan they do it for Jordan did for the free throw line and put it out there for me like this here. Yes, you see it He coming and doing it sideways rocking the baby with it You see how that look? That's why Mac McClung Mac McClung jumped over the top of the car. And then grabbed it. And reversed it. Mac McClung reversed it and then sprint and dunked it over Evan Mobley. He caught it off the guy off of a hoverboard, dunked it and dunked it.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Hold on. What about the one where he jumped over the dude, then touched the rim with the basketball, hit the rim with the ball, and then creativity. Creativity goes every time. Yes. And outside of creativity. That's the one he did with every moment. You got to be able to jump first, man. You got to be able to jump first.
Starting point is 00:07:23 And I don't think the big guys, especially the taller guys, have enough creativity to be able to jump first, man. You got to be able to jump first. And I don't think the big guys, especially the taller guys, have enough creativity to be able to do some of that stuff. Or just, it won't look the same, but they too damn tall. They too tall. You see, that's why Jordan looks so good doing it. Because he's 6'6". Mike McClung looks even better, because he's 6'2".
Starting point is 00:07:41 And you're like, how long is this guy gonna stay in the air? because he sinks too. And you're like, how long is this guy gonna stay in the air? Ocho to take it from the guy, put the ball on the rim. Look, he's looking at the rim as he touches the rim and then dumps it. Think about the guy off the hoverboard, he takes it out of his hand, boom, boom. Right, McClung got my kind of vert now.
Starting point is 00:08:05 I say. Boom, boom. McClung got my kind of vert now. I say... What you think his vertical is? Probably, I would say above 45. Maybe even 50. 50? Has there ever been anybody that could jump like that? 50? Yeah, but see the thing is is they measure their jump running you know in NFL and we've had guys to go 45 and have 46 I think Gerald Sensorpa went
Starting point is 00:08:33 46 boss Bailey went 46 we got a lot yeah I mean just athleticism NFL players they got it now. I mean, but you can tell a guy that can run fast is normally explosive because that's fast twitch muscle. So you look at guys that run the four threes, go check their vert. Those are the guys that do it 40. And so, so I would, I would not be surprised if Mac McClung has like a 48, 50 inch vert to be able to be that high over the real mocho and six too?
Starting point is 00:09:11 You got, you got, you got to have bunnies now and you got that, that bum. And he ain't, he don't have, he don't have long arms. Cause so you look at a guy like Yon, it's a guy like KD that have, you know, have wingspans of damn near eight feet Yeah, Mac McClung really is a normal dude If you saw Mac McClung walking down the street and you're not an avid basketball fan, you walk right past it He look like an average dude. Yeah And that's crazy. I know me and his vert was exactly the same was exactly the same.
Starting point is 00:09:46 Check the numbers now. Oh, but he was since all 50s. Castle, that Castle, had he not missed that first dunk, he missed it like three or four times. So I'm surprised they gave him as high a score as they did, considering he missed it so many times. Difficult. Mackleung, what, he missed the first dunk. I considering he missed it so many times. Difficult. Mac McClung, what he missed the first dunk, I think he missed it what one time
Starting point is 00:10:09 you think he ran up there one time? He's like, okay. I got it now. I got it now. 50, 50, 50. Ain't a whole lot of, if you go back and look, I don't know how many times he's got anything but 50s. I mean, bro, you dunking over Shale, you dunking over taco fall, man.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Come on now. So it's good. It was, it was, and see, I think the thing is, oh, Joe, people don't want to give a guy credit because he, because normally the old, when I first started, cause the dunk contest started in the ABA. It wasn't NBA. And when the NBA absorbed the ABA, they brought it. And you had stars, your guys that actually participated in the contest,
Starting point is 00:10:53 they were actually in the game. You had the Dr. J's, you had the Clyde Drexler, you had the Dominiques, you had the Michael Jordan's, you had the Vince Cardos, the Colbys, and you had those guys, so those were the stars. Now, Mac McClung got the G League, you got guys that are like role players, and nobody knows who they are. You're like, who is he? So that's the problem that they're running into. And then, and this was just when you thought the creative, like, what can they do?
Starting point is 00:11:30 Here come Mac McClung say, I'm gonna jump over a damn car. The body of the car, not the hood. The body. And I'm gonna reverse it. Okay, I'm gonna take it out your hand as you stick it through the sun roof. I'm gonna take it out your hand and I'm gonna reverse it. Yeah, I remember I did that. I did that at Bunch Paul. He was uh, it's gonna be yeah but he's he's saving the dunk contest. Okay. He really is.
Starting point is 00:12:03 He really is. He did an unbelievable job. It's the thing about it. After a three P now you got other players, chiming in players that can actually dunk players that are create our creative players that we have former dunk contest winners saying they're going to come back. That will make the game that much more interesting. It's getting to the point now when McClung continuing to win the dunk contest might be a little bit more interesting than the all star game
Starting point is 00:12:28 itself because they not even. Well, no, but think about it, Ocho. Now the three point competition, I mean, you get, I mean, because think about it. You get Steph, you get Dame, you got Clay, you got some of the best three point shooters, but none of the best dunkers are in the three point, is in the dunk contest. So that's what's like, when you remember, you go back and look at Clyde going up against Mike and Dominique, when Sean Kemp was in it.
Starting point is 00:13:00 I mean, they used to have guys that are- D. Brian, remember D. Brown? Yep, D. Brian, remember D. Brown? Yep. D. Brown wanted Larry Nance. Larry Nance I think beat Dr. J in the first one. I think it was back in 83, 84. But
Starting point is 00:13:16 it's tough. It's and I think the thing is like I said for me I never thought Braun was a creative dunker. Power dunk, can he dunk on people? Yes. Yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:13:30 But I think the most creative dunk was the rocker baby. I think that was maybe like after the Kobe situation, he did the rocker baby. But I would like to see Ant-Man. I would like to see Jah. I would like to see Gore and Levine and would like to see Ja. I would like to see Gore Giff and Levine and Aaron Gore. Aaron Gore says he's done. He said y'all ain't finna rob me three, two, both times. I done got robbed on this block two, I ain't coming down here no more. I done got robbed two or three times.
Starting point is 00:13:56 I ain't coming down this block anymore. Damn y'all. Yeah, and would be nice and creative as hell too. Adam Silver says he's emphatic with angry, empathetic, excuse me, empathetic with Mav fans, but believes Mav did what was the best interest of the organization. In terms of anger at the fan base, I'm empathetic. I understand Dallas was in the finals last year.
Starting point is 00:14:18 I've also said this before, I like Luca very much. It seems truly authentic that he was stunned and you could see it in his body language. I am sympathetic to the Mavericks organization. I've known Nico Harrison for a long time from his prior tenure at Nike. I've also gotten close to Patrick Dumas, our new governor in Dallas.
Starting point is 00:14:38 I can say one thing for sure, whether or not history will ultimately judge as a smart trade, they did what they thought was in the best interest of their organization. I have, I have absolutely no knowledge or believe that there were any ulterior motives. Ocho?
Starting point is 00:14:54 Chime in. They thought they did what was best for the team. Can I ask you a question on real quick? Or Chad, can I ask you a question? Yes. The trade was made has been by what? A week, maybe two weeks to this point? Two weeks.
Starting point is 00:15:09 How's that trade going right now? Has it? Okay. Okay. I'm just curious. I would like Adam Sandler to come out. Adam Sandler. I would like Adam Silver.
Starting point is 00:15:23 He come out. He come out too. I want Adam, I wish I would like Adam Silver to come out, Adam Sandler. I was like, Adam Silver. He come out, he come out too. I want Adam, I wish I would like Adam Silver to come out and speak, and speak the real. How about you tell the truth? How about you be honest? You know? What you want him to tell me?
Starting point is 00:15:37 I mean, I want him to say how he truly feels. I know, I want to say exactly how he truly feels. You making that goddamn trade was goddamn ridiculous It was but you do realize he's a commissioner The fact that he's in a position of power and he can't say how he truly goddamn feels because he's a commissioner Have you ever heard Roger Adele say how he truly cameras ain't rolling Okay, she's probably saying that with a camera they roll it Oh Joe, you got to understand people in position like that, you can't say everything that you
Starting point is 00:16:08 feel or you won't be in that position alone. I think that's the problem with society now. That's the problem with people in positions of power. Everything is fake. Everything is PC. They never get into people some of the things they want to say. The people are saying it at home, but the person that's sitting in the highest seat refuses to say it because they got to be PC.
Starting point is 00:16:27 When you had trash quarterbacks, you didn't say that. When you had trash quarterbacks, you didn't say that. So why don't you say that publicly? Let's rewind. Let's go back to my career. What quarterback did I have that suck? All your quarterbacks. I saw all your quarterbacks.
Starting point is 00:16:42 I had John Kittner good. And I had Carson Palmer. Good. And I had Carson Palmer, good. And I had Tom Hogan. What about, there were games, they weren't good. And you didn't say they weren't good. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, this is a game of football. Now, we, wait, let me finish. We strive for perfection.
Starting point is 00:16:57 Okay. We strive for perfection and greatness. If we fall short, that means we're good. They weren't bad. Everybody has a bad game. You had bad games. I had bad games. But you didn't say, when they weren't bad everybody has a bad game you had back in I had when they had a bad game why did you say that because 99.9% of the time they're good when they had a bad game why didn't you say my
Starting point is 00:17:16 quarterbacks up see why you said you. That's not what you said, chat. Chat, that's not what he said. That's completely different. How you say I want you to speak how you really feel? Having a bad game doesn't mean you suck. You know what? My quarterback had a bad game. He sucked this game. Said my quarterback wasn't good this game. For one, I don't even talk like that.
Starting point is 00:17:42 For two, I just want Adam Silver. See, that's what we need. You know, you know, you talk about you can't do certain things when you're in certain positions. Look what 45 be doing. I ain't gonna say a name. Look what 45 be doing. Acting a plumb fool. Doing all the things you're not supposed to do when you're at the, when you sit in the highest seat.
Starting point is 00:18:09 But he, but you have to understand what he is. He's their Dr. King. They, no, you laugh it, but that's how they view him because he's in bold of them to say, to say what they feel. So there's no more. There's no real respect. You throw that out to women. You say whatever. I don't wanna live in a society where you get to say whatever, do whatever, and it gets like, oh, that's how I really feel. I don't wanna live like that.
Starting point is 00:18:34 I understand what you mean. I mean, it was like that. It used to be like that in the 60s. They said whatever, they did whatever. You came home in your uniform, and you wore your uniform out, they did whatever, you came home in your uniform and you wore your uniform out, they would literally kill you. Because a black man had a uniform on.
Starting point is 00:18:51 Nah, I'm good. I think as a society, as we become more advanced, our behavior should also become more advanced. We shouldn't go back. Now some people might think that's okay. Let's go back to where it was. Well, where it was for you might've been great. It wasn't great for all and it's never going to be great for all, but I think it can be better for most. That's just me. Hey, uh, but no, look,
Starting point is 00:19:21 I understand people in position like a commissioner. You have to like, sometimes you gotta just, you gotta take all that because that's what the owners do. The owners pay you to take all the criticism that they're supposed to get. You see how people blame Adam Silver? He knew about it. So what's he gonna do?
Starting point is 00:19:39 You see, David Stern was able to block a trade because the NBA, they own the hornets, or the penalty with the hornets at the time. So they to block a trade because the NBA, they owned the Hornets or the Pelham, the Hornets at the time. So they can block that trade because they didn't think it was in the best interest of them. They got no say so in that. It's just like what did Roger say,
Starting point is 00:19:56 Roger Goodell, our commissioner always said, you know, we let team handle team things. That was a team decision. You can't force us to keep a player if you want to trade it. Hey, it's Bobby Bones. you get your podcasts. yards, multiple New York Times bestsellers, and one mirror ball trophy from Dancing with the Stars. So where else are you going to find a show with that much athleticism and football insight? Based in Nashville, we're more than just your basic NFL show. We talk sports, but we talk pop culture and music and a little bit of everything because
Starting point is 00:21:17 we got lots to say. I texted you and you texted me back. Now I don't know if you have the update, but like all the little thumbs up and heart and stuff like it's all colored. They changed it. And the heart's a little pink. It felt like I told't know if you have the update, but like all the little thumbs up and heart and stuff, like it's all colored. They changed it. And the heart's a little pink. It felt like I told you I loved you. I'm gonna be honest, it was a little pink.
Starting point is 00:21:30 There was something sentimental when you sent it. You're just like, do I send the heart now? I don't like the color edition. It's extremely pink. Listen to lots to say with Bobby Bones and Matt Castle on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcasts. It was a moment that should have broken me, but just because of how I was raised and my bullishness and arrogance to want to be great hardened me. It gave me a platform to
Starting point is 00:21:54 be so singularly focused on greatness. We all have moments like this. Something happens that's supposed to break us. But it's in these moments that we discover what we're really made of. I promise you, if anyone knows this, it's me. I'm Ashlyn Harris. What's up everybody? I'm Trevon Edwards, cohost of the new podcast, G-O-T-E, Greatest of Their Era with Steph Curry.
Starting point is 00:22:19 You don't wanna miss our first episode that's out now. We went live from All-Star Weekend, had special guest appearance by Steph Curry himself. Steph talked about what separates the truly elite NBA shooters. When you have a scouting report and you're on the list as not just a shooter but we have specific rules for how we guard you. There's a fear factor that's associated with anytime you're wide open like you might as well just count that and get back on defense. And we ranked our top five shooters from the 2000s.
Starting point is 00:22:48 Payser 5 dirt 4. Payser is a leader. I'm mad I left him off my list, but I still like my list. You won't believe who Steph left off his list. That's so tough. That's why we have these conversations. Yes, absolutely. Listen to GOAT, greatest of their era,
Starting point is 00:23:05 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Look, I get that. I get it because you look at that Luke at 25 years of age, five time first team, all NBA selection, and they made a move that came out of nowhere. You didn't hear anything. You heard no murmurs.
Starting point is 00:23:28 You heard nothing about Anthony Davis being traded. You heard nothing about Luca Donjic being traded. And all of a sudden, Shams drops that bombshell. So it caught everybody off guard and because of the players that are involved and also because you didn't hear anything about it. That is the biggest trade. That is the biggest trade. This is the biggest trade. It didn't be a history.
Starting point is 00:23:46 Absolutely. Absolutely. But like he said, we'll see if only time will tell Ocho if this was the right move. Hey, listen, only time will tell but it's telling right now. Ocho, Team Shaq wins the All-Star game. 41-25 over Team Chuck, the OGs, wins the first ever new formatted All-Star game. Yeah, I know, I know what you're gonna say.
Starting point is 00:24:14 Go ahead. Did you like his format? Listen, I didn't like the format, no. I don't even like the games. For one, the players aren't even playing for real. Obviously, it is the All-Star breaking. You wanna obviously it is our star break you you want to you want to be cautious to make sure you able to come back and get through the all-star break injury free the format it hasn't made it any more interesting than it was before the point
Starting point is 00:24:37 of having this format was to make it a more interesting for the viewers for those that are basketball fans but I think they made it maybe five or 10 times worse than it already was. I'm just getting honest with you. And this is from someone who, who is not a huge basketball fan, but is getting more into the game of basketball. This didn't help any, not, not one bit. I'm not sure what Mr. Silver is going to do about it.
Starting point is 00:25:02 I think maybe the players can come up with a better idea to make it interesting. Um, this, this just wasn't it. It just was. Yeah. It's hard to get it back once you lose it. We saw that with the pro bowl and I kept trying to tell those guys on show. I say, guys, they're going to cancel this. They're not going to keep giving you guys free money like this.
Starting point is 00:25:23 You can't play touch football in a tackle football league. And y'all say, I'm listen, I'm not cancel this. They're not gonna keep giving you guys free money like this. You can't play touch football in a tackle football league. And y'all say, listen, I'm not telling you, look, I want you guys to go, you can play, we've done it. I went to a number of All-Star games. You went to a number of All-Star games. It wasn't like a regular season game, but it was like a nice padded practice. What they were doing, and now, I mean,
Starting point is 00:25:44 they're just running down jumping up shooting three they just it's just it's hard Ocho and I for not tell him I say man it's gonna be hard to get it back and this is not it look I get it I thought the team shot when they played the uh the up and rising stars I thought they played harder then I was like you know what if the East and West actually play like this okay you, this might be doable. You're not gonna get the starters to play like that, you know them boys, they even go out there
Starting point is 00:26:08 playing hard like that, it's not gonna happen. No, I mean, maybe you try one-on-one, maybe you try horse, you gotta try something, because this just ain't cutting it. This is not cutting it. Horse is not going to get the viewers, that's not gonna grab your attention. You have to have some type of format that's going to grab the viewer's attention
Starting point is 00:26:27 and had them locked in the entirety of the time. If anything, I say bring back the East West and let's say the winner gets home at home, home court advantage or something, do a buy in where 18 puts up a million dollars. You know, if money is an incentive, they will play, huh? You know, that's what them boys about. They already had a few money. So what is the incentive for them to play hard? Well, it used to be Ocho
Starting point is 00:26:51 before they started revving the revenue. Cause when I first went to the pro bowl, the winners got 10,000, the losers got five. Well, you really needed that money because if you invited 10, 11 people, that 10,000 was gone. You damn sure better try to win that. That's your overhead.
Starting point is 00:27:06 You better damn sure better try to win that. That's your overhead. You better damn sure better try to win that game on show to, uh, to offset some of that cost. Uh, but I just don't, I just don't really know how the NBA can get it back because the guys have made a decision. They're not going to play hard. Listen, get it back to the East versus the West. Have a pot. Yes. Have a pot. Have the play. No, the players, let the NBA put up the pot. Let's say $5 million. Say 5 million and the players get to split that 5 million. They get a cut. That's the only
Starting point is 00:27:39 way it has to be in order for them to play hard. It has to be incentivized with money. Nothing else. There is no format that's gonna get them to play hard. Think about what you just said, Ocho. I've got, some of these guys got 250 and 300 million and 320 million dollar contract. And I've got an incentive. Now I got to incentivize you for you to showcase your sport.
Starting point is 00:28:04 Let us think about what you just said, Ocho. I've got the, I've got to further incentivize you for you to showcase your sport. Let us think about what you just said, Ocho. I've got to further incentivize you to showcase your sport. So this is the collection of the NBA's best player, 24 of the best NBA players. Now I need to further incentivize you. It used to be an honor to go to the All-Star game. It used to be an honor to go to the Pro Bowl. What happened? You know why you have to incentivize it? We're in a different era. All-Star break, that's PTO. That's the players PTO. This is my time off. So you telling me I need to work during my break. Okay, you know what? I made the All-Star team. I'm an All-Star. It's a great achievement.
Starting point is 00:28:44 You know what? I am honored. At the midway point, you feel I? I made the All-Star team. I'm an All-Star. It's a great achievement. You know what? I am honored. At the midway point, you feel I played to a certain level where I'm worthy of being one. But you know what? If you're not paying me right, like I'm being paid during the regular season where I do go all out. Nobody plays their All-Stars like that.
Starting point is 00:29:01 In a field, you don't get paid like you do in the regular season, don't you? Baseball, hockey? Okay, think about this. So if it doesn't mean that much to you, why the hell they complain when they don't make it? Because every year we hear NFL players complain they didn't make the All-Star, the Pro Bowl. And we see basketball players complain. And we see all of this. But now when you get there, you don't want to play. Can I tell you why they complain when they don't make the All-Star? Because they understand when they make the All-Star, on their understand when they make the All-Star,
Starting point is 00:29:25 on their resume, it looking good when it's time to get paid. They understand that is leverage for their agents when it's time to talk contract negotiations. Yes, I'm an All-Star, I'm an All-Pro, you know, whatever it is, it may be, that language looks good. Just don't go! Ocho, you know how it is. Once you get tired, once you reach a certain level, what did Tom Brady do? He stopped going.
Starting point is 00:29:51 A lot of these quarterbacks, they stopped going. OK, let somebody else have that spot that's going to be inspired to play and play and play. That's what I did with a man who the back of the first alternate. Hey, bro, I'm out. I can take it. Jeff, I understand. of, who first thought of that? Hey bro, I'm out, go ahead and take it. Because I understand, like you said, it's gonna look good on their resume. I'm not gonna go over there and bull-jab around.
Starting point is 00:30:12 I did one year, but I was in a contract year. Well, I was in a contract year. Hey, hey, contract year? I said, oh no, y'all not finna, I'm not finna get injured. And we ain't taking two tight ends. And Tom Coppola was running double tight end. I said, y'all nothing. I'm not finna get injured and we ain't taking two tight ends and Tom Copeland was running double tight end I say y'all kiss my butt. I'm out of this thing. I say I'm out of here first quarter
Starting point is 00:30:29 I wouldn't got me to meet two ice bags both. Yeah, that is I don't know if they were hurting or not But they feel good after the game, but I just this bug this bugs me. Oh, Joe I really hate it because this is an opportunity I really hate it because this is an opportunity. I grew up watching the All-Star game and watching Bird and Magic go at it. I zaled them. And you see the younger cast, Garnett and Kobe, they was trying to beat these guys.
Starting point is 00:30:55 I don't know when this, Ocho, I'm gonna be honest. I don't know when this happened, where the disconnect was, it's like, hey, let's just dunk and shoot threes. Play no defense, don't shoot threes. I don't know when in the pro bowl that they decided they were gonna play two hand touch. I don't know the exact year,
Starting point is 00:31:13 but I knew the exact moment when I said, you know what? They gonna cut this in shot. But you know what, who comes up with the format, huh? Mr. Silver, you know? Well, he's just trying stuff. You see, baseball, see, I get it, in baseball, little Joe, you throw the ball, you try to put bat on ball, and you run the base, you try to catch.
Starting point is 00:31:32 But they say, okay, whoever wins the All-Star game, that's who has home court, home field, throughout the playoffs. Well, maybe you might need to do that for the All-Star game. Instead of the best record, win the All-Star game. You know who needs to come up with the format for it? For it to be interesting? To get the players to play? The players. Who? The players. But you know what killed me? All these players. Oh Michael Jordan.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Oh Kobe. And now go look at Kobe and Michael Jordan all star game But that's what I'm okay, I love the mamba mentality and black Jesus and then y'all get over there y'all lay it down See, that's the problem. I got old joke. I got listen Guys that make it I think they're more than this they earned that yes But you can't you can't Applaud and laud someone for how they approach the game and then you go over there and you lay it down Because that's what y'all do and is it That's what y'all do. Maybe maybe they need to have Michael Jordan come in and give him a pep talk
Starting point is 00:32:40 Nah, Mike Mike chilling with that cigar man. Mike ain't coming there to talk none But I'm telling you I'm telling what the format needs Mike chilling with that cigar, man. Mike ain't coming there to talk to them, but I'm telling you, I'm telling you what the format needs to be. Matter of fact, you know what you can do? Sometimes you can listen to the people. That could always be one. If you don't listen to the people, and it's not working, the format's not working with the NBA officials who create the format,
Starting point is 00:32:59 leave it in the players' hands. Okay, they left it in the players' hands, you see? You got two 11s and one 86. You got shooting they left it in the players hand. You see, you got 211 to 186. You got shooting threes and dogs. They left it in the players hand and that's what you got. Don't let the players play us. If they left it in the players hand, just like the Pro Bowl and what happened on Joe, you got no game no more.
Starting point is 00:33:18 You got to play football. Yeah. Yes. So no, do not leave it up to the players. Hey, that to the players. That's the problem. They left it. The problem is, is that they gave the players too much control.
Starting point is 00:33:31 Somebody decided this is the way we're going to do it. They tried everything. Well, whoever wins this quarter gets 300,000 for their favorites for the boys and girls club. The favorite, the charity that was adopted. That didn't work. They tried something else. That didn't work. They tried something else. That didn't work.
Starting point is 00:33:46 This right here was a bull. Look, I love Jimmy Mr. Beast, and he come out there and the kid won $100,000. But come on, man. At some point in time, at the end of the day, it's still a basketball game. All these gimmicks and all that other stuff, it's still the fundamentals.
Starting point is 00:34:02 Look, the MLB, they have the home run derby, but you still, it's an all-star game. You put bat on ball. That's what it's about. Football is about catching, running, and tackling. Basketball, they play tougher at UCLA. They play tougher at the Summit in New York. Now you mean to tell me you won't do that in the off season,
Starting point is 00:34:26 but come All-Star game with us to opportunity for you to showcase for the world to see. Don't lay it down. And then y'all wonder why the ratings. Don't wonder. Don't wonder why the ratings are falling. You know why. Now you got to be careful now.
Starting point is 00:34:42 Now we asking for the players to play a little bit harder and a little bit harder than the All-Star game on grape. Now what happens when somebody get hurt? Then what? Happens when somebody get hurt. Ocho, think about the 50 years before they did this. So you make it seem like all of a sudden this was a new something new. Like they just instituted the All-Star game
Starting point is 00:35:00 and asking these guys to, you know what, play basketball. You make it seem like they just instituted a pro bowl and asked them guys to tackle and catch and run. They've been doing that. The only thing that we didn't try, they didn't try to do was kill the quarterback. They didn't try to kill the quarterback. But other than that, yeah, you got tackled. Got in, got, catch you come across the middle.
Starting point is 00:35:24 He ain't going to really try to lay into you. He might put a shoulder into you. But you know, I got, uh, uh, they threw me a scene one year and running. I saw him. I just graced. That's all I could do. He didn't go all out. Guys are not going to go all out, but you got to do more than what they're doing. That's just not nearly good enough. Obviously your era and my era when it came time to the Pro Bowl, we played some football. And now we didn't like try to knock somebody's head off,
Starting point is 00:35:51 but we thought up now. We thought up, you're gonna thought up real good. Just know I'm here now. Right. I'm here. Remember when Sean Taylor caught the punter, caught the sideline? Yeah, Brian Mormon. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:05 I was like, yeah. Stop playing. But I, but I get it, but I mean, but I just don't know. I just don't know what else something needs to happen. The, but I mean, cause you know, I don't know how salaries keep increasing. If the fan viewership keeps decreasing. That's a good one. I mean, I know they're about to lock the head start next year.
Starting point is 00:36:28 They on a new, what, how would it be? You're 11 billion dollars. Uh, I think they got 11, it was 10, 11 billion dollars with Amazon, NBC. 11 million. Yeah. Over the next, over the next, over the next 10 years or something. What is it? Oh, 11-year deal worth $76 billion.
Starting point is 00:36:54 Come on. Salaries are going. Think about it. Salaries are going. Supermax players with one team. You build on one team, you make X amount of all NBA teams, 350. In five years, that's gonna be 400 million. Somebody's gonna be wanting their money.
Starting point is 00:37:11 Now, y'all get mad when teams trade y'all and keep y'all from getting that super max contract. Cause you see, a lot of people thinking that's what you did with Luca. They keep from paying 350, hey, now we got this thing under control. So don't get, hey, just like I told you the other night, Ocho, don't get mad about a problem you created.
Starting point is 00:37:30 I got a question. Now I understand that Luca and his greatness, especially on the court, they traded him away because of the things that were going on off the court in which they didn't want to be on hand to pay him $350 million for that supermax. Can you tell me another player who's in line to get a supermax? Shay can get one, but Shay's on will be 290.
Starting point is 00:37:53 So what's the difference? Why is his 290 in Luca's zone was going to be 350? Because Luca. But that's not Shay's original team. Shane got traded from the Clippers. Oh, wait a minute. Why are they, why are they punching him for him getting traded? Because they call that the bird, they call that bird rights team that drafted you. Laird bird.
Starting point is 00:38:20 You could, you could play a guy up team and it doesn't count as much against the cap or it doesn't count anything against the crap. Oh man. So he meant, now he's missing out on money because y'all decided to trade me. And matter of fact, if you look back at it now, you should have kept it. Yeah, the Clippers should have kept it because they traded, but they wanted, they, Paul, Kawhi was going to go to the Lakers unless they got him Paul George. And that was one of the things, that was one of the pieces that they wanted. They wanted, they wanted Shay, they wanted Golanari,
Starting point is 00:38:51 they wanted all those first round unprotected picks, they wanted all those pick swaps and they got it. And Shay has blossomed. Rapport said Doc did not wanna do it. He's like, hey, Kawhi, just give this guy a little time. He gonna be special. Kawhi say, I don't got time. Yeah. And there it is. So Draymond Green says players on the rising stars don't deserve the privilege to play on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:39:13 Do you agree? That's not nice. I mean if they're riding the stars look at the name. What are they called again on? The what? That means. Hey Dray Dre, had y'all guys done what you're supposed to. Guess what? They wouldn't be here. The commissioners trying anything to drum up interest in this game. You created a problem. And then when they other people try to solve and rectify the problem that you guys created, you get mad.
Starting point is 00:39:43 How about you guys play a little harder and the rising stars wouldn't be playing on Sunday? We wouldn't have had this format. Four teams and divided up and this and that and the game goes to 40. Yeah. I'm confused by what I'm confused, why he's upset for a problem they created.
Starting point is 00:40:02 I mean, I don't agree with Draymond, but obviously he's feeling he might be the voice of reason for other players as well. That feels like the rising star shouldn't be playing, shouldn't be playing. But listen again, what Draymond needs to do is get with LeBron, get with some of the other veteran heads in the NBA and figure out a way to get the interest back. And the only, only thing I can think of, and I know the NBA might not like it, is they need to incentivize it even more
Starting point is 00:40:28 to get them boys to play hard, go back to the East and West and have a pot of money that the winner can split. And matter of fact, and the loser don't get nothing. The loser don't get nothing. Ocho, Ocho, you making $70 million a year. You gonna get incentivized, you gonna get excited about a million dollars? Stop it, old chump.
Starting point is 00:40:48 I didn't say a million, I said five. No. Old chump, think about it. I guarantee you, every one of those guys today that was on that court pulled up in a private jet. After the game, they go get on that private jet and go wherever they going. It ain't money on the show. Money might have been the motivating factor for them to get to that level. But after that, after you proceed, that's what you have to really, really appreciate
Starting point is 00:41:21 about the really, really greats. The Brady's, the Jordans, the Kobe after they had all the money, they had all the phrase. They still played it that they were flat ass broke. Yeah. Chase that. I mean that in order now we got to continue, we got to continuously incentivize it. I've got to ask a guy, hey bro, for extra 500,000,
Starting point is 00:41:46 would you play hard when you're making 50 million? When you're making 50 million on the court and you're making another 25 to 30 off the court. But can you, just do this for us. Different, boy. At some point in time, they're gonna have to come to a conclusion that the game is not gonna be played.
Starting point is 00:42:08 It's not. How about, I got another one. I got another one. How would you like to see this? Now you might not like it, but I'm just throwing this out there. We have all these people in the world that play LA fitness on the parks.
Starting point is 00:42:23 What do you think about civilians? Playing the NBA players on all-star break No Yeah, remember they were complaining they complained about Mackleung. He was in the G League they complained about him beating the dunk contest You think they're gonna be excited about somebody coming off the street? I'm just trying to think of things that will get the viewers' attention. Not bad to get the viewers' attention because you got dudes that play who that never made it. Stars get fans' attention, Ocho. Stars, why you think teams...
Starting point is 00:42:56 Hold on, if stars get fans' attention, then the viewership wouldn't be declining. But they not playing hard. Ocho, when you come down and you see a team shooting 55, 60, 73s, what's exciting about that? When you missing the 50 or 60 of them, you take 65, you take 73s and you miss 55 of them. Clank, clank, clank, clank. Nobody run, nobody runs.
Starting point is 00:43:24 Hey, you get a three man break Everybody run behind the line and try to spot up for a three. Nobody goes to the nobody goes to the hole That's not it's nothing exciting about that I don't have an answer. I don't have an answer somebody do but they got to come up with something They got a cut they got had to come out with somebody don't cancel the game And it would be no all star break. But I would. You still have the three point competition.
Starting point is 00:43:49 You have the skills. Yeah, just cancel. Okay. I see what you're saying. Yeah. The all star game. Hey, you get selected to all star. You're not going to go play.
Starting point is 00:43:58 Hey, skills challenge. You want to do skills challenge. You want to participate in something. Okay, fine. But there will not be a game on Sunday. That's a good way to look at it. It's not going to happen, but I like, I like, you want to participate in something, okay fine. But there will not be a game on Sunday. Cause y'all ruined it. That's a good way to look at it. It's not gonna happen, but I like where your mind is at.
Starting point is 00:44:12 Oh Joe, Paul George is receiving injections just to play. That's something players do come out playoff time. Not necessarily in the regular season. Paul George is averaging 10 points, three rebounds and three assists per game in February. Is it time to sit PG and let him get healthy? I mean, listen, based, based on the numbers he's had since the season has started,
Starting point is 00:44:36 it's been bad. It's not, it's not what we're used to seeing from Paul George. Obviously, you know, something is wrong based on the type of production that Paul George has been able to have as far as output is concerned, how efficient he's been over time, when he's played well, something is wrong with him. You know, someone's wrote him when he when he's scoring. What do we have? 10.
Starting point is 00:44:55 He's averaging 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in the month of February. You know, that's not normal. Everybody knows that's not normal. So some some has to be wrong with him, but I'm curious as if he's hurt, why is he still playing? Why, why is he still playing? So you, you based, based on the contract, based on how much he's making, he'd rather play and hurt the team and his numbers instead of just saying, you know
Starting point is 00:45:24 what, right now I'm not healthy. I need to sit down to smite what I'm doing. play and hurt the team and his numbers instead of just saying, you know what? Right now I'm not healthy. I need to sit down to smite what I'm doing. You ain't like that's new. How many times you see players do that? They go out there NFL players. In football, yes, not basketball, but normally basketball players, when they hurt, they out, they taking their, excuse me, I'm almost cursed.
Starting point is 00:45:42 They taking themselves out. What happened is Ocho is that he's with a new team and when you go to a new team You want to put your best foot forward you want the fans? Yeah, you want the teammates and so you probably do things now Maybe if he was at the Clippers, he probably wouldn't do this. Maybe he was in Indiana I probably wouldn't do this, but he's in a new environment and And things are not going. They remember, uh, Joel is just not really coming back.
Starting point is 00:46:09 Paul George has been in and out. He's been nicked. I think he has a surgery this off season also. So he's been dealing with some stuff of his own. And, but Sean is right. This is not something that no, not, you know, look, if it's playoff time, yeah. But I ain't taking no damn injections just to practice or me just to, well, I did, but it's different
Starting point is 00:46:30 with an NBA player because they play it two, three times a week, I was just shooting my leg, I was just shooting up to play in the game. So that's a part of it, Ocho, I understood and the doctors, Mr. Sharp, you know, long term, I say, I ain't worried about long-term. I'm worried about that. My grandma need to eat.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Kids need a roof and need to be able to go to school. So I worry about all that long-term stuff down the road. Right now, stop talking, you're talking me to death. Shoot this leg a little so I can go out there and play. You just. Yeah, shoot this leg a little so I can go out there and play, but it's tough. It's tough, Ocho, because- What exactly is his injury? I don't-
Starting point is 00:47:14 Is it in- But you know, I don't know if it's bone on bone. I didn't know if he, you know, some meniscus. I mean, because I'm thinking, Ocho, if he, it's gotta be something knee related. Right. It's gotta be. Damn man. And listen, if you need, if you need, if your knees are no good or you need to work. That's what anything, Oh Joe. That's what anything. You play sports, but waist down.
Starting point is 00:47:43 Waist down. I mean, I'm trying to, I mean, they do have the sports in the Olympics where you see guys with wheelchairs and stuff like that, but that's not a professional, that's not professional NBA, NFL. Babe, you can't do it. And when the knee, you can't turn on the,
Starting point is 00:47:58 you can't turn the baseball, basketball, you can't run up and down and jump up and down the court. Football, you can't stop and start, you can't drop your hips. It is hard to play with anything injured waist down Can't and I know you know It's tough man. It's tough. It's really tough. And you know Paul George's is it was a very good player but
Starting point is 00:48:22 Whoa, I'm following that isn't yours. your wife play. You say a Paul George was a good player this year. Oh Joe, he's not, he's not helping. Okay. So Paul George is good. Listen, he's a good player that is injured right now and because of the injury is hampered. He was, but so when he gets back healthy, I mean you make it sound like he's just like he's out in the past. It's an easy done. A man making $50 million a year average and to give me, give me a 10, three and
Starting point is 00:48:52 three. Could I interest you in that? Hey, Hey, you mean to say, he asked that he hyper extended his knee in the preseason. Ah, that's what he's been dealing with. But now he's out because of a pinky. A what? Pinky. I guess it's got to be on the shooting hand. His pinky toe. No, it's pinky.
Starting point is 00:49:21 His pinky toe. Pinky finger. Wait, the pinky finger, it really ain't no, if you're a real shooter, the pinky. Yeah, it is. Listen, listen, I'm a shooter now. Get, where your basketball at? Get your basketball. If y'all can see this right here, anybody dang, Steph, if y'all think y'all can take this LV basketball off, then come get yourself some. Come get yourself some. Ocho, look. Okay, okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:49:52 How you think somebody go shoot like that? But listen, you know the ball leaves the index finger, you know that right? Yeah, but look at this Ocho. Okay. and how you dribble you ever seen somebody do how many how many four finger NBA players you ever seen if it ain't if it's not that important right right right it's important so listen I like I like what you're saying you see what you're saying so it's pinkies messed up his knee is messed up so even though he's making 50
Starting point is 00:50:23 man a year there's a reason he's scoring 10 points a game. So he needs to give him a little bit more grace. Guess what, Ojo? You think they still putting that money, that debris deposit, you think it's still hitting? Okay. Yeah. All I'm saying is, hey, hey, Steph, Dane, y'all want this Louis Vuitton basketball?
Starting point is 00:50:43 Come get yourself some. Ten shot from the... Why ain't call out Kyrie? Kyrie can get it whoever want it. You ain't know who. If you want some come get some. You know what I'm saying, Ocho? LB basketball, that's right, Louis Vuitton,
Starting point is 00:51:01 made a basketball, there it is right there. Whoever want some come get it. How much that was? Man, I'm just asking you, see. I'm just asking. If you gotta ask, it's too much. I'm just asking. Boy, I'm just asking.
Starting point is 00:51:20 I'm not gonna let that thing go. Hey. No, you didn't. No, you didn't. I asked. You gotta realize, I didn't. No, you didn't. I have, oh no. You gotta realize, I averaged 30 before the three pointer. Oh hell, oh hell no. John Stewart is back at The Daily Show

There was something sentimental when you send it. It was like, do I send the heart now? I don't like the color edition. It's extremely pink. It was a moment that should have broken me, but just because of how I was raised and my bullishness and arrogance to want to be great hardened me. It gave me a platform to be so singularly focused on greatness. We all have moments like this. Something happens that's
Starting point is 00:53:26 supposed to break us. But it's in these moments that we discover what we're really made of. I promise you, if anyone knows this, it's me. I'm Ashlyn Harris. Starting point is 00:56:59 Well, you just made you making up stuff. You making up numbers right now. And if you are putting up these kind of numbers, that lets me know the competition where you was at. That's what I do. I made the competition seem like it wasn't no competition. See what I did? There it is right there.

Well, obviously, if you put up those kinds of numbers in high school, you couldn't have been playing against nobody. I don't even think Kobe put up them types of numbers in high school.
Starting point is 00:59:25 They said that when I played at Savannah State. You put up them numbers you ain't played nobody. That's the same numbers in NFL. That's how I got one of these.
