He told reporters the 40 year old Rodgers has one year remaining on his contract and during a disappointing season with the three and seven jets. Rodgers, Ocho, he's been below average compared to forget. Forget his standard. Right. He looked very he looked below average for any quarterback.
Starting point is 00:04:49 Twenty five QBR is 62 percent completion rate ranks 29. His six point four yards per temp is 25th. Yeah, what'd you think it, Ocho? Listen, I told you, you know, that Achilles injury, for one, I said he was coming back anyway. I said he was coming back regardless. There is no other option. If he does decide to come back, that the Jets have as far as maybe drafting the quarterback, getting somebody in free agency, that you would think would give you the hopes and the chance that that someone of the caliber of Aaron Rogers would this season has been abysmal for them from a quarterback standpoint
Starting point is 00:05:33 from a defensive standpoint. Uh, hell offensively, um, the firing of Robert Sala. I think it affected them, especially defensively because they look nothing like they did. They weren't defensively since they left solid. Exactly. So the funny thing about it is what there once was their identity is not even that anymore. And that's defense. And it makes it even worse is not only is the defense playing bad, he'll the offense playing bad, too. And you've added someone like Aaron Rogers that the helm. So I think I'm coming back and trying to run it back one more time to see if they can get things together, would, it'd be good.
Starting point is 00:06:09 It'd be good. Because there is no other option. There is no better option than him. Maybe not the option, not the quarterback we're seeing today. But there ain't no better option than him. Shit, you know how the landscape for the quarterback position is. There is no better option.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Maybe not the way he looks right now, but he'll show flashes of brilliance. But if he can find any kind of consistency of what we used to see back in the days, who's a Green Bay, they'll be OK. Just give me a look. We give me a look. We just talked about as you get older. You remember? Yeah. You remember?
Starting point is 00:06:42 Do you remember? Do you remember Tom Brady his last year in Tampa? Go back and look at numbers. Yeah. You remember Peyton Manning his last year in Denver? Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:10 You don't get better getting older, Ocho. Yeah, you're right. We haven't seen a quarterback or a player take a dip and then pick back up, especially at this age. We're not talking about a guy 26, 27, we're not talking about a guy 31, we're talking about a guy that's gonna be 41. Mm-hmm. That man said, well, did he say, did he say something about, what?
Starting point is 00:07:39 Did he say, we gotta play for pride or something? I didn't hear that quote. He probably did. I mean, he say so much stuff, huh? But it don't normally, normally the stuff he's saying ain't got nothing to do with football. That's how you know, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:07:55 You want to collect the check, okay? You want to get the money. Bro, you going there, you ain't talking about no football. You talking about this and that. You trying to take little pot shots here and there. That bastard. talking about this and that you try to take little pot shots here and there. I did best it. I don't see the steps that it takes to be a leader, to galvanize a team. And people automatically assume, well, he's a great player.
Starting point is 00:08:20 Nobody will ever argue that. Right. The historically great players. But there's more argue that. Right. The historically great players. But there's more to that. There's more to being a great player when it comes to the leader and leading, leading a team and leading men and asking them to follow you. Right. You're right.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Hey, you know what? When I think about it as well. It's when Aaron Rodgers is playing bad and the fact that the team is constructed offensively, they haven't been together long enough. They're not good offensively to overcome his bad struggles or his bad quarterback play. No. I think that that's more that's more the issue. So to be 41, to be coming off of an Achilles heel injury,
Starting point is 00:09:06 everyone around you has to be that much better than you when you're playing bad. Yes. They got to be able to save you. But you're under the impression, I mean, Tay got a, what's his base? Tay got like $34 million. I don't think the Jets gonna pick that up.
Starting point is 00:09:28 You think they're picking on that $34 million option on Tay? Well, I think they will probably work something in restructuring because you know Aaron Rodgers, if he is coming back, you know he's gonna want that number one target. You understand that, sir? I don't know if Aaron Rodgers have the same pool
Starting point is 00:09:42 as where he played. Why am I listening to you? You the one that got him here. Oh, there's no other option. The same way Daniel Jones got that, sir? Aaron Rodgers have the same pool as where he played. Why am I listening to you? You're the one that got us here. Oh, there's no other option. The same way Daniel Jones got that goddamn money. Yeah, you say there was no other option with Daniel Jones. Let's see what he got. You wouldn't.
Starting point is 00:09:53 And again, it ain't it ain't no other option with the 41 year old. So so you mean to tell me I got to pay a guy forty five fifty million dollars. In order to go three and seven and I can couldn't pay a guy $10 million with that. They have that same record. I, uh, you know, you know how valuable that quarterback position is. At three and seven. Tell me the value in that. You right.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Hey, that's the gamble. Listen, that's why we not GM. Somebody say, Oh, last time you told the truth about Tom Brady, you ended up at ESPN. But, but, but I'm just trying to say, I mean, value. I mean, so, so, so what, what exactly are we getting? So what are we going to get at 41 that we didn't? Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:40 At 39, we understand Achilles injury. So what are we going to get at 41 that we didn't get at 40? You know something I don't? No, no, no. I just understand it. Again, like you did say, when you were great, when you were young, you know, sometimes you say you don't dip
Starting point is 00:11:03 and all of a sudden become what you once were But I know even when even his dipped as a quarterback when he dips is still better than most No, Joe you watched him this year You think he's a top ten quarterback you think he's top 15 Come on, man He's still better than most so where would you rank if I gave you a choice or the quarterback the 32 starting quarterback what you taking there Rogers okay I'm talking about this year okay all right listen to me yeah we got 32 teams right think
Starting point is 00:11:44 about the team they have starting quarterback that you would not replace that you would not place Aaron Rodgers with obviously Kansas City, Buffalo, um, Lamar Green Bay, Justin Herber, Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow. I mean, yeah, Joey. Joe, of course. Okay, now after that, now think about other teams. I'm not replacing Russ with him? No, hells, not with the way them motherfuckers playing, hells not.
Starting point is 00:12:18 That's what I'm saying. Hold on, hold on, that ain't number 17, man. It's 32 of them. See? Oh, let me ask you this. Yeah, you replacing you replacing CJ. Okay. Oh, no. Okay. Let's go. Jane Daniels. Jane Daniels. No, you replace it. You place in Brock Purdy with Aaron Rodgers. Yeah. Hey, yes. Okay. You say, hey, listen to me, listen to me, listen to me. The way the break, the way Brock pro to get that ball out, out of his hands and that offense, the way Shanahan run the offense, you don't think with the arm
Starting point is 00:12:54 and got them Aaron Rogers got, we, you don't got to hold onto the goddamn ball. And everything is running like this. And that West coast offense, a lot of it, Ocho is the quarterback. I think he knows more than the coach. Oh yeah. I know you talk about, I know you talk about, I know, I know exactly what you're talking about, but a quarterback of that magnitude know just as much as the coach. Don't you think?
Starting point is 00:13:18 Especially being in the system. What about, what about Arizona? Look at the way Kylei murder, please. No, excuse my language. I'm sorry. The Rams, Matthew Stamper. No, no, Geno Smith. No, that's that's what I'm for right there. OK, yeah, let's go to the NFC South. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:42 Cousins. In Atlanta. Eh. Eh. Because here's the thing, Ocho. Right. Given the talent that some of these teams have, if I put them in Carolina, how much better is Carolina with Aaron Rodgers than they are with Bryce Young?
Starting point is 00:14:01 Given what they got. See? You see what I'm doing now? than they are with Bryce Young, given what they got. See, you see what I'm doing now? Where it used to be he could elevate. Now he needs someone to elevate him. Yeah, that's what we're getting at. So I like that. A fan on Twitter wrote,
Starting point is 00:14:26 Jalen Hurts will be the first member of the NFL's 2020 club. Twenty past 20, 20 rush TV either show or Tony or football. What do you think, Ocho? The show, he a tiny of football. The show, he did 5050, you know, before it used to be the 40-40 club. You know, A-Y was in it, Barry Barnes was in it, Jose Canseco was the first to do it. Ronald Lacuna, Jr., I think, did it. Trying to think if there's somebody else at the top of my head that did it.
Starting point is 00:14:59 But that's a... Teddy Bear, what you doing? I like it. I like it. 2020, that's a good feat. Has it been done before at the quarterback position? No, I don't know. No, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Hell no. What quarterback can throw for 20 plus touchdowns in Russia? You understand 20 rush touchdowns? How many touchdowns that is in Russia? Yeah, a lot. There's a lot of quarterbacks that can throw. I don't even think Cam has ever rushed for that many touchdowns in a season.
Starting point is 00:15:36 Season. And that's dope, now that you think about it. Hell yeah. That's bad. Yeah, would you compare it to Yeah, would you compare it to the Good hitting a baseball is a lot harder to Say yeah No, but it would be it would be
Starting point is 00:16:02 It'd be a huge it would be huge I mean anytime you could do you could be the first to do something in any particular sport, Ocho. That's going to positive. No, obviously you don't want to strike out the most times or you don't want to, you know, have the most drops or the most intersections of most fumbles, something like that. But when you could do something, throw for 20 touchdowns, rush for 20 touchdowns in the same season.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Yeah, that's, that's an unbelievable honor. And to see where he's come from, not being a very good throw of the football. And he's turned himself into a very good throw of the football. Because remember, he lost his job in Alabama because he wasn't proficient at throwing the football. Right. He's worked. He's put time in and he's gotten better
Starting point is 00:16:47 and that's okay. You know people are like oh it's okay to say someone wasn't good at something. They got better and they became better at said at said task. That's Jalen Hurts. That's Lamar Jackson. It's okay. That's a huge compliment. That's kudos that you weren't particularly great at something and you turn yourself, Jayler Hurst has turned himself into a super, a guy that went to the Super Bowl. Lamar Jackson is a multiple time MVP. That's unbelievable, the work ethic that it took. Lamar Jackson could throw for possibly 5,000 yards. Who had that on their bingo card? The guy that you wanted to turn into a wide receiver or running back,
Starting point is 00:17:35 possibly throw for 5k in a season. Yeah. The guy that they say was very quarterbacky, whatever the hell that shit means. But. Yeah, the guy that they say was very quarterback II whatever the hell that shit means But Ocho whose side of your own is that Jalen special? Did somebody ask that question Hello and I can name 20 better dual threat quarterbacks all time to hurt If he's the fourth best dude do a three quarterback to wear Eagles Jersey
Starting point is 00:18:10 I mean what you going big? Randall Cunningham Donovan McNabb, I guess that's what you said Vic Mike Vic and I guess they say hers is for her. OK, that means that's the only that's the only four I only only ones I can think of. Yeah. I like it. I mean. You know, cam season cam went to the Super Bowl in 2015, 2015,
Starting point is 00:18:44 then 15 and one. What did Cam have, 25? What did Cam have, 20, 35 passing touchdowns, 10 rushing touchdowns? Who was cam numbers in his MVP season? 35 and 10. Yeah. Oh, hey, why take it? Uh, yeah. So when you look at cams numbers, he was 35 and 10 the year he went to the soup
Starting point is 00:19:30 bowl. Um, and Lamar Jackson won the MVP with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions last year. He's 24 and two passing touchdowns. Probably has another what? Three or four Russian touchdowns. That's crazy. Yes. The Colts go Joe going back to Anthony Richardson. The 2023 number four pick will regain the spot as the team starting quarterback Sunday
Starting point is 00:20:01 against the Jets and for the rest of the season. Shane Stikin saying if the attention to detail and everything Richardson does. It's got to be higher standard over the last two weeks. He's made strides in those areas. The decision comes on the heels of Joe Flacco's worst performance of the season. Blacko had four turnovers, three picks in the fumble and a loss to the bills. Oh Joe, you like the move? Yeah, absolutely like the move. Obviously, I think they went into the direction of going with Joe Flacco because we think he, they thought he gives us our best chance to win right now. If I'm not
Starting point is 00:20:39 mistaken when the move was made, I think the Colts might've been four and four. You know what? Boom, there's a chance that we can continue to go where we need to go with Joe Black of the helm. They felt he gives us a better chance. Yeah, obviously not after, you know, back to back losses. And then Coach comes out and says, oh, Anthony Richardson has made these unbelievable strides in a two week span. Now we're going to put him back at the starter. Shut the man.
Starting point is 00:21:05 If you don't stop in order for, and again, like you said, we will talk about brawny in order for a quarterback to get better. He has to play. You got to go through the ups and downs. It's not going to be, especially after this is basically his rookie season because he was hurting mess up his shoulder. His rookie season, you got to be on the field, man. It's the only way things are gonna get better for him.
Starting point is 00:21:29 And I'm listening, I'm happy for him and his team. He's the future of that team unless they decide to go in another direction. Maybe not after this year, but maybe after next year things don't turn around, but I'm happy for brother Ant, man. You need it. This is good for his confidence too.
Starting point is 00:21:45 It's good for his confidence. So whoever's calling the plays, brother Shane Steichen, you know, find a way to get that young brother in the rhythm so he gets some goddamn confidence. And once that confidence gets built back up. But Ocho, ain't no way, Ocho, when you look at the talent that he got, he got Jonathan Taylor in his backfield.
Starting point is 00:22:02 He got, he got Pitman Jr. He got Olly Cox. He got Doolin. What's the other receiver name? Last name. I can't remember his name. He went number 10, I think if I'm not mistaken. Hey, well he nice. Yes.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Young Bull nice. Is it Pierce? What's his name? I can't think of his last name. No, no, no. Well, no, that's Mo Ali Cox. What's his name? I can't think of his last name. No, no, no. Well, no, that's more Ali Cox is a tight end.
Starting point is 00:22:31 What's the other wide receiver on the court? Alex Pierce? Alex Pierce, yeah, yeah. Pierce, yeah. Oh, Joe. Yeah, you got some nice weapons. He ain't the boy board of talent now. Right. They can run it.
Starting point is 00:22:48 They got a decent offensive line. Right. They got two outstanding receivers, more out of the car. Now I'm not saying he's Kelsey. He's not Laporta. He's not Big Bride any of that, but he's a solid. He's a solid tight end. You got to be better, bro. Yeah. You got to be. Hopefully, it's really, bro. Yeah. He gotta be better.
Starting point is 00:23:06 But hopefully. It's really that simple. Hopefully. Who the coach players begin? Jets. See, there it is, the perfect game. The perfect game for him to have a resurgence. Horrible defense, horrible offense.
Starting point is 00:23:23 But say you know NFL is funny, man. NFL is fickle. Ain't no telling what team you gonna get. Ain't no telling what Aaron Rodgers you gonna get. That's what makes it, that's what makes it. I'm sure we don't get the one that showed up the last three weeks. You see, I mean, let's be real, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:23:43 Outside of that Jeb's game, I mean, but think about the jazz game. Think about it took two one-handed catches from Garrett, from Garrett Wilson. Yeah. James Houston denies pooping his pants on Sunday Night Football, but Jason Kelsey says he's lying. Houston posted, Hey y'all, I set up some Gatorade. Just chill with that.
Starting point is 00:24:13 Jason said he has no doubt that Houston did. In fact, poop his pants and he knows from personal experience. He told travel new heights. That's why I hate white pants. That's the first time that's, it's not the first time this has happened. I know many players that had that happen to him. Travis said, you and I both know
Starting point is 00:24:34 he didn't sit in no Gatorade and not the exact specific spot. We all know, damn. Cool, Lord have mercy. I know nothing about shit. And there's nothing to be, yeah it is mercy. I know nothing of that shit. If there's nothing to be, yeah, it is! Big groaner. A grown man.
Starting point is 00:24:49 Hey. To the devil. Hey, uh, you can't, sometimes you can't hold your movements out there on that field, man. It's different, you know, for the big boys. Empty your bottles before you go out there. Yeah, it depend on what you eat pregame. It don't even matter.
Starting point is 00:25:02 I already know I'm going. I have a pile in there so high they hop down off. Ain't nothing to be on Joe. Plus I'm- Hey I ain't never. I ain't never had no issues, you know, now having to, you know, piddle, which is, is probably the only thing I've ever had to do.
Starting point is 00:25:20 Never had to do number two, especially not when it's time, not when I'm not in the middle of competing. Yeah, I ain't got no, I ain't got nothing. I ain't got nothing in my stomach because I first of all, I've already eaten. I've eaten. Five hours before the game. And I've already had to go to the bathroom, so, you know, I mean, my stuff,
Starting point is 00:25:38 I mean, me, my stomach is. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, Yeah. For real? Yes. Absolutely. I ain't never seen that. Yeah, I remember, you know, and I don't know if people, there's this drug, they used to be called this weight loss drug
Starting point is 00:26:13 called Zinacal. And it worked because it helped your body not store fat. So if you ate, but you couldn't eat more than 10% of your diet from fat, because if you did, if you did, you will have a blowout. I'm gonna fight, he's coming up. I'm just telling you, if you did, you having a blowout. Right. Trust me.
Starting point is 00:26:42 Trust me. Man, man, them jokers be up on, they be up on the men and women. Be up on the treadmill and they got on, you know, back then, you know, bodybuilders, you would wear white and women used to wear white. They passing gas if you want to. You don't see how many, hey, they be on the treadmill all of a sudden they got their sweatshirt tied around their waist. Ain't fooling me.
Starting point is 00:27:10 Don't play. Hell nah. Damn. Damn, bro, I feel bad for them. I mean, I saw the picture. I'm sorry guys that we can't show you a picture, but we know we on copyright probation right now. We in the copyright halfway house. And we ain't trying to go back we own copyright probation right now. We, we, we're in the
Starting point is 00:27:25 copyright halfway house and we, you know, we ain't trying to go back to the big house right now. Nah. So. Hey there, it's Michael Lewis, author of Going Infinite, Moneyball, The Blind Side, and Liar's Poker. On every season of my podcast Against the Rules, I take a broad look at various characters in American life. The referee, the coach, the expert. My next season is all about fans and what the rise of sports betting is doing to them, to the teams, and even to my family.
Starting point is 00:28:00 I'm heading to Las Vegas and New Jersey and beyond to understand America's newest form of legalized gambling. Listen to Against the Rules on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you listen to podcasts. What's up, everybody? Starting point is 00:28:28 and behind the scenes of the conversations that happen at the highest levels of NFL franchises. We're bringing the top GMs, top coaches, the young coordinator you're getting to know. We're gonna give you the story behind the story, but you're probably not getting anywhere else. Like all-pro Jets cornerback, Sauce Gardner. You know, as a defense, we're looking forward to adding on where we left off last season and just continuing to get better. Like all Pro Jets cornerback, Sauce Gardner. You know as a defense we're looking forward to adding on where we left off last season and just continuing to get better. Starting point is 00:32:15 ["Wizkosman's Life Insurance Policy"] A Wisconsin man apparently took out a $375,000 life insurance policy, faked his own drowning so he could abandon his family and flee to Europe. Ocho, would you fake your own death? Absolutely not. I mean, he faked his death, tried to get away from his wife, get away from his kids. For one, I'm not faking my death because I love my kids. I want to be here, you know, I had too much fun with them, but he must have been miserable.
Starting point is 00:32:55 He must have been really miserable. You know how, you know how bad it has to be as a family man with kids and a wife to fake your death and want to leave and use insurance money. Like think, like logically think about that. It has to be really bad. I'm trying to figure out how long he thought, Ocho, how long he thought 375,000,
Starting point is 00:33:17 were you gonna get another job or something? Well, it depends on his lifestyle. It depends on how he lived. You know, 375 could be a fortune to some people, especially if you live way below your means or you're not a spender like that. Well, you gotta play, do they have a place already paid for?
Starting point is 00:33:33 Is he gonna get a car? You gotta understand everybody, everybody, everybody don't, everybody don't move like that. You feel me? So how he gonna get around? He just gonna walk? I mean, he gonna be, I mean, you going to the UK? What? He in Europe, huh? He was moving, he was moving somewhere in Europe
Starting point is 00:33:50 Bro, like you don't need you get your little moped you good. Okay, but what you gonna eat? Where you gonna live? Um, some of the people don't even make 375,000 in their lifetime. I'm sure he was gonna be straightening that. Come on now Yeah, somebody that works that works a a minimum wage job. Yeah. If you work at a fast food chain, probably maybe not. But I'm just saying I don't know how to know how old how old was he as not just say for the sake of
Starting point is 00:34:16 argument, he spends 20,000 a year. He is in mid 40s. He's been 20,000 a year. Yeah. In 20 years. That's it. That's just if he just spends 20,000 a year. Yeah. In 20 years, that's it. That's just if he just spends 20,000. Can you live on 20,000 a year? Who? Ocho Cinco.
Starting point is 00:34:33 Shit, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I made that big stretch. I can make it. I can stretch a thousand for a month. You want to bet? You cannot. Did you hear what I just said?
Starting point is 00:34:44 You cannot live off 20,000 a year, Ocho. Stop it. Did Did you hear what I just say? You cannot live off 20,000 a year. Oh, Joe, stop it. You just hear what I said. Lord, I can stretch $100 for a month. How are you going to tell me? So what? So where you living? So how much is that apartment you got right now? Oh, this is a this is a my apartment
Starting point is 00:35:01 that you've been flashing all the apartments you looking at. How much they're going to go. Oh,, all the apartments you looking at, how much they gonna cost? Oh, oh that? I can't just screw with how much that is. Exactly. So I'm just gonna say for the sake, let's just say, let's just say, I'm gonna say, Ocho, it's gonna, I'm concerned, Miami concerned,
Starting point is 00:35:15 I'm gonna say it's gonna cost you 3,000 a month. That's 36,000 right there. Without my, without anything. You got a cell phone? That's a good number. That's got number, huh? You got a cell phone? That's got number, huh? You got a cell phone? Yeah, my cell phone free.
Starting point is 00:35:28 I'm with AT&T. Okay. Hey, you have to understand, you thinking from your perspective too. No, I'm thinking from logical perspective. Hold on, middle-aged white man, married three kids, he ain't living like that, man. He ain't living like that. Ocho, 3 three hundred seventy five thousand is not a lot of money
Starting point is 00:35:48 for a lifetime, bro. Oh, you comparing these regular folks to you, oh, Joe, people going to make three seventy five in a lifetime. How you want to tell the average person makes fifty thousand a year? What are you talking about? What? Um, what you at, you at a touch of reality for? What's the average salary?
Starting point is 00:36:11 What's the average salary for an American? In this goddamn economy? The economy doesn't matter. It costs more, but people still make you $40,000, $50,000 a year on Chokey. No, they are not. No, they are not. Watch. Tell Ash. Look it up real quick. What people out here struggling boy. 50,000 a year. Hold on. What is it?
Starting point is 00:36:36 Now, you tripping. According to the US Department of Labor, the average salary in 2023 was $59,000. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true.
Starting point is 00:36:52 That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true.
Starting point is 00:37:00 That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true. the average salary for according to the US Bureau of Labor, the average US salary in 2023 was $59,384. That's average. Now granted that factors in the LeBron James, the Shohei Otani and that factors in the people that's making 20,000. But even if you made 20,000 a year in 20 years, that's more than 375,000.
Starting point is 00:37:33 So everybody, everybody motherfucking struggling, but because the US department said, this is what everybody makes, this is minimum. Okay. Now everybody's crazy. Okay. Now we got all these goddamn financial issues and the damn economy,
Starting point is 00:37:46 but you listen to what that god damn truck got to say. Listen, just because you make 60,000, yes, it costs more to live. Yes, groceries are higher. Grands prices are higher. Rent is higher. That doesn't diminish what you make. Yes, it costs more to live.
Starting point is 00:38:04 Yes. So that means we're not making enough, right? So you agree. That's beside the point. You said they're not making it. All I'm saying is it costs more to live. So yes, it's going to cost more. The point, the point of the matter was you said 375 went a lot. So we don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:23 We don't know how this man lives. He's going to Europe. He's going to Europe. He's going to Europe for one. Right. Stay with me. Yes. He's going to Europe to live. It's free.
Starting point is 00:38:31 So swimming, if he's swimming. So how does he get to Europe? Cause you say he goes there modestly. So I'm just trying to figure out how he gets to Europe. Oh. All right, you got to stop throwing out all these hypotheticals, man, trying to spend the man money now.
Starting point is 00:38:52 How the man get, I just want to know how he gets to Europe. I don't know. I don't know. Maybe he just magically appear. I don't know how he going to do it. I just, listen, 375 is a lot of goddamn money. I don't care how you spice it. How you how you.
Starting point is 00:39:06 I. For a lifetime. Hey, you know, some people in this world won't even see a million dollars. That's three. I said 375. I didn't say no million! A million, 375, 500,000? But you... you gotta touch for reality, man. Come on, man. God I need you, man.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Now you actin' like 375 ain't no goddamn money because you been making millions all these years. People not seeing that kind of money in the regular world. Oh, Joe, I'm saying three seventy five to last you a lifetime. Yes. If he gets a job and live modestly, that's one thing. You said the man can have three seventy five and he's going to be straight. Where? If you got people that would never see, straight where. If you got people that would never see never see three seventy five, you got somebody that gets a lump sum of three seventy five that lives below his means and lives the right
Starting point is 00:40:15 way in this economy. He's going to Europe. Not here. What are you talking about? Where oh Lord and you're. They're trying to be worse than I was. Oh, Joe, what are you talking about? Where? Oh, Lord. And you're. We don't live over there. How you know?
Starting point is 00:40:37 I read. Oh, don't you can't listen, you can't listen, you can't listen, then they put out the mercy. Hey, but you can't listen. You can't listen. You can't listen. None. None. They put out all the mercy. Hey, but you can't listen. None. They put out. Hold on. Hold on. Let me do my let me do my little homework. Really? Oh, I'm looking right now. Long.
Starting point is 00:41:13 Okay. No. All right. What you gonna be okay for? I'm just saying. Hold on. 375,000 not a lot of money. I know one thing. I'll leave motherfuckers with that. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm not going to let you brush that off. It ain't no money. Don't brush that off. Okay. Not good. No, I know. No, no, no, no. I want you to cut a chat with a green with Ocho. Read what you just said. Read what you saw. Oh, no. It's just certain. It's
Starting point is 00:41:36 just certain people. I'm just I'm just I'm reading certain people talking about that. Ain't no money. No. Okay. Read what the cost of living is in Europe. Oh, I I couldn't find it. Because you say, okay, oh, you're right. No, no, no, no. of living is in Europe. Oh, I could find Because you say okay, oh you're right. No, no, no read it read it. Come on. Oh, don't do that
Starting point is 00:41:53 I'm gonna tell you right now. I'm gonna tell you right now. Hold on Well, hey listen some but y'all Hold on watch this The cheapest cost of living in Europe. Damn. Damn what? They don't tell you the numbers. They just tell you where the cheapest places to go in Europe to live is. I mean, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Estonia, see that Athens, Greece, they're not, they're not giving me numbers on what you would need to live in these places.
Starting point is 00:42:35 That's something I would need to see. We need to come back to this topic because this is a great topic. This is the great topic. What is the average? What part of Europe? OK, what part of Europe are you talking about? I don't know. Eastern Europe.
Starting point is 00:42:52 So that's so hold on. So that's 30. So that's $37,500 a year. Now, you said he's not you said he can live off that. That means he's not getting a job and he's living up 37, five a year. Why wouldn't he get a job? Why wouldn't he have a job? Because that was the argument. Oh Joe, I said that's not a lot of money. Now if he's going to get a job, yes, you don't get a job. He's going to going to Europe like
Starting point is 00:43:17 he's some damn, he just robbed the goddamn bank. Oh Joe, of course he can't work. Oh Joe, let me see the man faked his death. So you think he gonna go get a job? Yes. Do you know how they do that? Yes. Do you know how they get caught? You don't think you know how to create a new identity? Do you know how they get caught?
Starting point is 00:43:36 Did you see Ocean's 11? Ocho. Yeah. There's a man hunt looking for him. He's not dead. I ain't nobody looking for him. He's not dead. Nobody looking for him. How do you think we have in the conversation?
Starting point is 00:43:49 Oh, Joe. His wife's in this, Tony, but you say nobody looking for him. Not his wife's this Tony. So how do you think we have the conversation? So he go go get a job. May you you fight. You don't understand how we got it, we got it. We got it. You come on.
Starting point is 00:44:06 Come on down here, man, to the real world with us. Oh, Joe, you talking to somebody that grew up. I understand. I do. But I also understand how I was living. How many people wants to live in a thousand, twelve hundred square foot with minimal necessities. That's way back in the 50s man.
Starting point is 00:44:37 But you also have to understand, Ocho, think about what you were accustomed to. Right. That's what I'm saying. This man is on the run. If you're on the run, how you gonna go get a job, don't you? Do you know that, you know how all the things that you can do on the black market to change your identity and be a completely new person in a new place? I shouldn't, I don't, let me stop before I get myself in
Starting point is 00:45:03 trouble. I ain't finished, I'm not sitting here and talking about that stuff on here because I I really shouldn't know nothing about it But it's possible. It's very possible. Yeah, it's possible, but you gotta make it but oh Joe think about it Yeah, think about all the people that did things and with the countries hell They called a guy that killed he killed two police officers in dc. They found him in a hut in africa Man killed, he killed two police officers in DC. They found him in a hut in Africa. Man, man, please don't you. Yes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:34 If he wants, if he wants some, if he wants a menial job, yes, but I'm saying, but you say three 75 was a lot of money to do what? To do nothing. I mean, you're talking to you talking to the cheapest dude in the world. So to me, but we just had a conversation when you have no money coming in and is going out. Right. That's all right. And I think with understanding, he would he knows he would have to have a job doing what he does. All right. And I think with understanding he would he knows he would have to have a job Doing what?
Starting point is 00:46:06 Yes, if he gives a job that doesn't maybe he gives a job that doesn't require information They're gonna pay you under the table. But okay your identity They post that because you know, they're gonna post it. Uh, have you seen this guy? You know what I work with I work with a guy that looks just like him at the Butchermar Or I work at a guy with him in the factory Then what That's a good topic Good topic one thing about it. We'll never know
Starting point is 00:46:42 A good topic. One thing about it, we'll never know. No, hell not. I don't want to know how to live off. Oh, I already know. I'm not going to have to live off no three, 75 for the rest of my life. Hell no. She. And then, oh, Joe, what happens when they freeze that way? Hopefully he got the check because they put where you go cash on an American check in the UK. they put where you gonna cash your American check at in the UK?
Starting point is 00:47:06 And listen, hey, you saw the movie. He must be the cast to check. Hey, you saw the movie, kiss me if you can. Yeah, I do. Frank Abagnale. Yeah, I watched the movie. Oh, man. Boy, so many things you can do with that Oh, man. Boy, so many things to do with that identity, man.
Starting point is 00:47:28 I'm trying to figure out how y'all like, I'm trying to figure out how y'all talk about I moved to go post is 375 for the rest of your life. I just try to figure out how I'm moving to go, so where you living at, what you're in. I'm just trying to figure out how I'm moving the goalpost. So where you living at? What's your rent? Even the dingiest place, go charge you what? Let's you go get what you go get on me. You know somebody that got a section
Starting point is 00:47:53 that you gonna pay a fine, what's your for pay? Let's just say, Ocho, you get one of these thousand dollar a month. Okay. That means you can only spend thirty-seven five on Joe. Yeah. You ain't about to have no power. You ain't gonna have no you ain't gonna have no air condition. You ain't gonna have no you ain't gonna have no you ain't gonna have no lights. Yeah. What you gonna eat? There's a way because before you think of death, you already have a
Starting point is 00:48:24 format and a plan out. You got everything already planned out before you do all that. So I don't know what his plan was. I'm not sure if he made it. I'm not sure how he got caught. But it's something that happens all the time. This just happened to be the one who did get caught.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Man, I'm just trying to figure it out. But look, I understand there's like, yeah, if you lived in Miss, I'm trying to think if you lived in Mississippi, but still, I mean, I understand the cost of everything is elevated. So when you factor the cost of everything is elevated. So when you factor the cost of everything is elevated and you weigh that by making $37,500 a year, that's the problem where people are struggling, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:49:13 It's not the fact that, okay, we're not, because they say people that make 150,000 is basically living check to check in America because eggs and bread and everything is elevated. Price of gas is elevated. The cost of bread and everything is elevated. Price of gas is elevated. The cost of buying a home is elevated. The price to rent a home or department is elevated. So if everything is elevated, it's not that people aren't making money.
Starting point is 00:49:36 It's just, it costs more to live. Right. So if it's costing you, if 150,000 and to have some people, and I'm not saying all, I don't, you know, obviously you're probably living in someplace like San Francisco or what a New York or someplace like that, Ocho. You know what I'm saying? Where rent, you know, you paying 3000, 4000,
Starting point is 00:49:57 $5,000 a month in rent. Yeah. Just imagine if you plan 5,000 a month in rent. Yeah, just imagine if you plan five thousand a month in rent. You can't you can't cheap, Ocho, it's not. I don't know. I don't know, because everybody living in the UK ain't living like, God damn, no.
Starting point is 00:50:22 Everybody in America ain't living, Ocho. Why do you think people complain? Yeah, I'm just saying. Ocho, if I made $50,000 a year and gas was $1.33 a gallon and I could get three loaves of bread, that's something entirely different. Think about what it cost to buy a house back in the 60s. Think about what it cost to buy a car in the 60s. You could buy a car, you could buy a house.
Starting point is 00:50:46 I mean, now a house is a car. Yeah, yeah. You ain't buy no three bedroom, two bath house for no 60 grand. That's what it cost. And your monthly payment was probably $75, $80 a month. You gotta live within your means. Yeah. Live within your means and act your wage.
Starting point is 00:51:09 That's what I say all the time. If you got a certain amount coming in, if you have lumps of them coming in, you have a plan to live within that means and make that big stretch. All I'm saying is, people, if I gave you guys 300, let's just say somebody gave you 375,000 you retiring because if that's not if that's a lot of money you can retire kick your feet up like I'm good
Starting point is 00:51:33 hey people in the chat they rich because everybody said 375,000 ain't no goddamn money oh Joe when you oh Joe you talking about for the rest of your life oh Joe see you I think you're getting confused talking about 375,000 a year I'm talking about for the rest of your life. Oh Joe you see you I think you getting confused talking about three hundred seventy five thousand a year I'm talking about for the rest of your life the rest of your natural life somebody tell me I'm gonna flip it bro you gonna be back to work tomorrow you gonna be ready to work tomorrow because if that's all your money you got and you're willing to risk it, I already know what you're about to do.
Starting point is 00:52:12 Somebody say he. We ain't gonna be at we ain't gonna be at tomorrow. Back back working. Ain't no Ocho. Who take it? Ocho Joe who taking their last and try to flip it Hey, well y'all here boy Hey, well, y'all here, boy. 75% of the people say no, they couldn't live off 375 for the rest of their life. Hey, oh, Joe, they what they will do. They go play our parlay. They don't play our draft key parlay.
Starting point is 00:53:04 Like, look, I mean, the thing was, oh, Joe, if you look at it, the way we grew up in the house, we had, we didn't have to pay rent on it. But you know, my grandmother living off $197 every two months, you're gonna have to eat, you're gonna have to do something. Because I remember, man, I ain't even know. So if your mom or your grandma bringing in $197 every two weeks, you tell me what steak and ribs you think you eat.
Starting point is 00:53:33 Right. Oh man, that was funny. But bro, people forget, Ocho, I think people forget. I think people look at us now and what they see is they see Shannon now. I know what it's like to make $25. I know what it's like to make $100 a week. I do. Right.
Starting point is 00:53:58 I know that's not a lot of money. And I know what the cost of things now. I'm like, well, damn. And that's what people cost of things now I'm like with Daniel and That's what people are having a problem with it's not that they're not making more money is that the cost Of living is going up and it's eating into the money that they're making So if I'm making this old show, I don't want I don't want prices the stuff that I need to do this Also. I need to, I need my money to go this way. And I need like, y'all be graduate bread and gas and food prices, I need to create.
Starting point is 00:54:31 Hell, let's move it up at the same pace. Oh, I gotta get some tissue. Y'all got me crying, man. Hold on. Wait. Ah! Man, I just, man. Somebody talk about move to Uganda.
Starting point is 00:54:48 Hey, hey, will you say oh boy, say if he go flip it see you're gonna be right right right back to work tomorrow. I'm sorry. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, Flip. Okay. Bad please. Man, I bet, look, I know what stuff cost. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not naive. I got a lot of, I got a lot of households to fill. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:55:25 Oh, but I needed, I needed that land for a guy. But you know what? Next time my boys come out, they need a raise. I'm like, hey, the chance that y'all can live off 37,500 a year. So y'all good. Ashing. As can't live off 37,000, damn,
Starting point is 00:55:41 there's 37,000 a month. The way he be spending. Oh man. Hey there, it's Michael Lewis, author of Going Infinite, Moneyball, The Blind Side and Liar's Poker. On every season of my podcast Against the Rules, I take a broad look at various characters in American life.

Driving home from work, you got time for 10 takes. Taking a smoke break, you still smoke? You got time for 10 takes. Hiding in the bathroom at work? You got time for 10 takes.
Starting point is 00:59:52 I'm not gonna waste your time. I'm not gonna ask you to spend an hour or more listening to me pontificating about the state of quarterbacks in the league. No, no, no, no. I just need 10 minutes to tell you why this is the most interesting Chiefs team we've seen in years and nine other things rattling around in my head.
Starting point is 01:00:08 If I go over 10 minutes, boom, I get cut off and the podcast is over. I guarantee you will learn something. And you may, I'm telling you, you may just have the best time you've ever had listening to a podcast. Listen to 10 takes on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Starting point is 01:00:45 people dined and dashed on a $420 restaurant bill. 420 people, 16 people, the average cost is $26.25. So as the lady was explaining, person by person would pretend like they were getting up to leave, like they were getting ready to go to the bathroom or something like that, and each one, they left. Why y'all do that? I wish I, see, man, listen, you see,
Starting point is 01:01:08 and you wonder why I tip the way I do when I go out, when I do happen to go places, see, stuff like this. Like that's the point is if you don't have the money to eat, if you don't have the money to tip, you know, at least leave something, man, but don't dine and dash. You know, these people, these people rely on these tips, man. These people rely on these tips because they don't. Even if you don't tip, pay for the ish that you ate.
Starting point is 01:01:31 Pay for the stuff that you drank. Okay, you don't want to leave a tip, but you know, hey, it's normally on the thing. Parties of six or more, you got, you're gonna charge you 18%, so forth and so on. Okay, I get that. Let's just say it's two people. Don't do that.
Starting point is 01:01:46 If you don't want to tip and it's two of you guys, three of you guys, that's fine. But don't you take your ass to these people's restaurant and eat their food and then run up out of there. $26 a piece. 400 on a $400 tab. Really people? Really? Really? See what I mean? See time to see how bad times are? See what I mean? Great, great story. No time. That people just be back. He right. It was being there. I bet they had some kids, huh?
Starting point is 01:02:25 No, them grown ass people, Ocho. It was? Yes, grown ass. You already know. I don't even need to tell you, you know. Yeah. Oh, us? You know.
Starting point is 01:02:42 Damn. Damn. $26, Ocho? Yeah, you right, you right, you right, you right, you right. That's not something that you decided. You made a con, when you walked into that restaurant, you already know you were gonna eat them people in and you were gonna do what you did.
Starting point is 01:03:01 You walked into that restaurant, you already know you were gonna eat them people here and you was gonna do what you did. I just hate that. I really do, Ojo. I hate... I mean, I've been in a situation like, been to Whole Foods and the guy, homeless guy come in there, bro, I'm like, bro, and he all, I said, bro, don't touch.
Starting point is 01:03:21 I said, what you need? I get it for you. Pay for the stuff. They grab stuff. They chase about it. I pay for it. Just let them have it. Let them go. Don't do this. Don't do people stuff like that. Come on, people. I know.
Starting point is 01:03:37 I'm not going to say we better than that, because we not. We are who we are, Ocho. What we see, that's who we are as a society. We've got to stop thinking that this is so beneath us as a society. No, this is exactly who we are as a society. It is. It is sad. Yeah. Yeah. Times haven't got that hard that 16 people decide to go out to eat
Starting point is 01:04:01 in each one of you guys, say, you know what? No, I ain't gonna, I ain't gonna play. Even if I'm with a party, Ocho, and we go out, I'll pay for it before I let somebody do that bull job. But I used to go out with the guys and all right, hey, hey, check this out, bro. You did that bull job last time. Yeah, not this time. Go in your back pocket, bro,
Starting point is 01:04:25 bring your ass. Right. Every time we go out, all of a sudden, you get, all of a sudden, you gotta go to the bathroom. It can wait. Come on. That's, that's, that's embarrassing.
Starting point is 01:04:42 That's embarrassing. That wouldn't even, I couldn't even good conscious do that. Oh Joe, cause it's not like, it's not, that's probably not a chain restaurant. It's not like they like one of these big, they doing 30 million in revenue. You know, a lot of these places on Joe, they just make it just enough. Just enough. Yeah. And then somebody could not just hate hate it man, I hate it I just
Starting point is 01:05:13 Do them it was a Memphis at a Mexican restaurant Let's find the restaurant we I'll send them something we don't find out the restaurant I'm gonna send them something restaurant. I'll send him something. We're going to find out the restaurant. I'm going to send him something. I'll take care of it. That's a shame. I just I hate people. I just hate people that I just hate people to pray on the week old Joe. That's always been a pet people man. Yeah. Take you see how you be getting on me by tipping like that? Now you see why. I don't care if you didn't have anything but water to drink. Lisa, man. Yeah, come on. Just pay for your meal.
Starting point is 01:05:59 Oh Joe, if you didn't wanna leave the tip. Like I said, normally, I ain't been to every restaurant, but normally when they say parties of six or more, it's already 18% gratuity building it. You got 16 people. Y'all eat them people food. I'm sure everybody didn't drink water. Right.
Starting point is 01:06:21 And you just eat the people food and just walk up out of there. And y'all thought that was okay. Y'all thought that was okay. Y'all thought that was cute. Dang. I was premeditated. For sure. For sure.
Starting point is 01:06:36 I mean, I was at Target and the guys. Tarjay. Yeah, yeah. And you know, he had stuff, I mean, he had more, I think he had like some coupons and stuff like that, but anyway, he didn't have enough. And I said, bro, bro, I ain't got time for you to take that back.
Starting point is 01:07:00 Don't even worry about it. Just take your money, I'll pay for it. Just put the stuff in the bag, I'll pay for it, ma'am. Just keep running up and put it on mine. Right. Man, I appreciate it. Bro, just get the stuff and go, man. For you to take your bag. Oh, I ain't got that kind of time. You know, hey, I'm going from point A to point B. I don't do no, you know how some people go to the grocery store and they just like, no, I know exactly what I'm gonna get And getting up out of there and get up out of there
Starting point is 01:07:30 And when I get to them when I get to the thing Oh, I hate you know what I hate Uh, I don't know if i'm gonna get these but how much of but how much of it? Put it in the bag, put it in the bag. Just put it in the bag. I got you. God. Oh, just, I gotta go.
Starting point is 01:07:52 I forgot something. I got it. Oh no. Shoot, that Target is as big as that goddamn place is. Oh Lord, have mercy. Talk about I'd be right back. But I've done that. I one time, Mocho, I can't lie. I did that one back. But I've done that one time, Mocho.
Starting point is 01:08:06 I can't lie. I did that one time. I forgot my wallet. You got the app on your phone. You got the cars on your phone. No, you know, you got you got the app. You have your cars on your phone virtually. Oh, you know. You know that? No, you know that?
Starting point is 01:08:25 No, I know exactly. Ain't nothing on my phone. Oh, my bad. That's right. My bad. Still my phone my screen saved the middle finger. That's what I got for you. So you tap on it.
Starting point is 01:08:36 That's what you go see. I got some funny. That's funny. Now, oh Joe, now is time. For Q and A. Hey, boys, three o'clock out here, boy. Holy shit. S W G Ray Z said, uh, pay for my Uber Eats. I'm hungry. It costs $375,000. Yeah, that ain't no money. Send it to him.
Starting point is 01:09:06 Hey, you must be trying to buy a McDonald's or something. Shoot, 10XL, Uncle Nocho, you guys have helped me through some of my darkest times. I appreciate you guys for being you. Don't ever change. Thank you. Thank you for your support. Thank you for being you, bro. And we always remember sunshine follows rain,
Starting point is 01:09:28 but we're glad that you pulled through that. LB Cool say, why isn't Steve McNair ever mentioned? Do you think he needs a statue or a jersey to be retired? Man, Steve was great. I played against, oh, I played against Steve when I was in Baltimore. We used to, obviously, actually we were in the same division. It used to be the, the, the AFC Central.
Starting point is 01:09:48 It was Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tennessee. It was six teams in that division. And so we, you know, I played Steve McNair four times. Well, actually we played him five because we played him twice in the regular season in the first year I was there we beat them in the divisional round to advance to the AFC Championship Yeah, I think I think he I think he I think he gets forgotten because of his tragic passing
Starting point is 01:10:15 And you know, oh Joe, you know how it is out of sight out of mind Yeah, we see Michael dick Obviously we see cam Cam just retired. You know, I don't know if he's officially retired, but stepped away from the game a couple of years ago. Obviously we see Vic doing this thing on Fox and in the morning, Sunday mornings.
Starting point is 01:10:36 But yeah, another guy to do a three guys, Steve young don't get any credit either. People got that Steve had, Steve had wheels before he turned into a prolific passer. Steve Young was a mobile quarterback, athletic quarterback, scrambling around. But you're absolutely right. Steve McNair does not get the credit that he deserves.
Starting point is 01:10:55 He did win an MVP. He did lead a team to the Subo, led a team to the playoffs multiple times. But you're right, you're absolutely right. He does not get the love and attention that he deserves. David said, please show the field where you guys played and the games on Saturdays and Sundays. What?
Starting point is 01:11:16 What did he say? No, why would I, why would I, why would I, why would we show, knowing that we haven't paid the licensing fee from the NFL, why would we show up knowing that we haven't paid the licensing fee from the NFL, why would we show get NFL games? I thought I'll laborally laid out what it would cost for 10 minutes of NFL footage or NBA footage or any other footage like that. But nice try, David.
Starting point is 01:11:44 Uh, but he said, okay. No, it's your love. The show been supporting you guys from day one. Just want to give you a shout out.
