And you get a chance for people to unpack and get beyond race. All the Smoke featuring Michelle Obama. Starting point is 00:02:14 You ever me? Hey, I got, right now I got chills, chills on the inside. You know what I'm talking about? Mm-hmm. I got the AC off, but I'm cold on the inside. And that's crazy. Ocho, I talked about this a little earlier while you was trying to connect.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Cam War gets into a scuffle with Jeffrey Simmons at camp. I like that. I like that. He walked through a touchdown past the cabin Ridley towards the end of practice and went over to celebrate. The rookie quarterback stopped and gave Simmons a shove before doing his trademark zombie land celebration in front of him. Simmons reacted with a two-hand shove to war's face mask.
Starting point is 00:02:50 The offensive line came running towards defense. You liked the Cam Ward picking a fight with Jeffrey Simmons? Yeah, absolutely, because it's nothing. serious. It's nothing serious. They've been going at the past two weeks. There was an altercation between Jeffrey Simmons and Cam Ward earlier in camp. I think when the defense must have been beating up on them real, real
Starting point is 00:03:07 good and Cam got back at him. So them having fun going back and forth. I mean, it's cool. It's cool. It's all it's all camaraderie. You know, and I think it's going to pay off pay dividends when they have to play against somebody else. Obviously, Cam Ward will look phenomenal. Let me ask you question. Dr.
Starting point is 00:03:23 Dr. Patrick shivers you, two-hand, shivers you to your face mask. You cool, you walking back to the huddle yeah i don't think you did it that hard i just ask you a simple question the man two hands shivers you to your face mask are you just turning around walking to the huddle it's a simple yes or no no no no we're gonna have a little fun you're gonna have a little fun you got to understand that there's a report there and obviously when you see it you're understanding okay that's a lighthearted that's the two boys going at it as far from a competing standpoint not i'm shoving your face trying to knock your head off is it different
Starting point is 00:03:53 man look here that's a d lima anything a d lineman do Yeah. Because think about the moves they used to try to beat the offensive libel in, Ocho. Yeah. Oh, hold on. Hey, this is just not any D lineman. This is the. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:06 I'm preem and a D.T. Yeah. They, listen, they've been going at it all camps. So, all right. We got to have one another one. Coach Prime punishment for any player that hits the quarterback. For players who violate the rule,
Starting point is 00:04:17 consequences range from up down the stadium runs. Ocho, this old school way of coaching, considering the NIL guy jumping in and out of transfer a portal, it's getting harder and harder to coach players because, hey, you talk you talk sideways to me, I'm up out of here. You think this will work with time?
Starting point is 00:04:37 Hey, absolutely, absolutely. Because listen, even if players can jump in the aisle, even if player can jump in the portal, people want to go play for Dion Sanders. This is Dion Sanders. This is Dion Sanders. So you understand what that comes, where you understand the discipline
Starting point is 00:04:49 that he expects out of you to be at your best. So if it comes down and having a run goddamn stadiums there, that if you hit the quarterback, then so be it. Because if you get into a game, if you do it in practice, then you're going to do it in the game. So if it takes running the stadium stairs and doing whatever else you need to do to get that out of your system like Shamar Stewart
Starting point is 00:05:08 with Joe Burrell last week, it'll be so be it. Because it's not going to tolerate at the next level, so don't tolerate it here. I agree. Ocho, are we living in the golden age of the National Football League? Percentage of games decided by seven points of fewer.
Starting point is 00:05:26 The historic average is around 45, about 46%. Look at where it is now. 39? Now, when we talk about these averages? No. From 1970 to 74, it was 39.23%. 20 to 24, it's almost 49%. That's almost a 10% tick up.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Wait, that's a good thing, ain't it? Yes. That's what I'm saying. That's what I said. It's the golden age. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. There are no blowouts. The games are coming down to the end. It's a one-score game. That's what we're looking for. We're looking for one-score game. Not that what we saw in the Super Bowl. Oh, you know, you know, it's funny. I don't think we don't have any more teams around right now that are able to dominate offensively, week in and week out, where they're going to be blowouts. even though the NFL in general
Starting point is 00:06:23 is favored for the offense I think that's it was done on purpose to make the games a little bit more fun to allow the points to be a lot of people like points hey yeah no different than home runs in baseball I ain't going to look here then they change the best will say Ocho in baseball people the purists say man I want to see a one nothing ball game
Starting point is 00:06:43 I want to see 11th that's what I want to see with home runs you know NBA Hey, people want to see 133 to 1.30. Ain't nobody trying to see. I remember the game used to be 77, 72. Right. Man, four quarters. Now you got guys scoring 70 points by themselves.
Starting point is 00:07:03 When the team in four quarters couldn't get to 70. So point, they've made it more conducive. Right. Because now you look at baseball, home runs, this going this way, bat and average going that way. strikeouts going this way but they want to see the ball go over the fence yeah basketball they want to see the ball going to hoop that's why they keep jacking up threes and football they won't scoring yeah that that's why they handicap the defense too huh protect the quarterback protect the receiver
Starting point is 00:07:37 yeah entice them to throw the football because if i'm paying a guy 60 million i'm paying the i'm paying the wire receiver 40 me think about it yeah the highest paid running back is basically making 20 million dollars less than the highest paid wide receiver so what does that tell you they're trying to do oh joe throw the damn ball oh yeah and your quarterback make it 60 55 60 i'm not paying joe burrow no 55 million dollar turn it right to hand me turn around and hand the ball off 35 times the game mocho i'm not doing it i'm sorry you understand why he's in the gun 90% of the time yes so that's what the league wants to see but i'm glad unless somebody you know you turn the ball over Now, you turn the ball over, Ocho.
Starting point is 00:08:18 The game can get out of hand like we saw with Kansas City in the Super Bowl. But normally, if it's a, you know, teams are right there comparable. Hey, guys, it's AZ Fudd. You may know me as a gold medalist. You may know me as an NCAA national champion and recent most outstanding player. You may even know me as a People's Princess. But now, you're also going to know me as your favorite host. Every week on my new podcast, Fud around and find out.
Starting point is 00:08:45 I'll give you an inside look at everything happening in my crazy light as I try to balance it all. From my travels across the globe to preparing for another run at the Natty with my Yukon Huskies to just try to make it to my midterms on time. You'll get the inside scoop on everything. I'll be talking to some special guests about pop culture, basketball, and what it's like to be a professional athlete on and off the court. You'll even get to have some fun with the Fudd family. So if you follow me on social media or watch me on TV, you may think you know me.
Starting point is 00:09:13 But this show is the only place where you can. and really, fud around and find out. Listen to Fud Around and Find Out, a production of IHart Women's Sports and partnership with unanimous media on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Jake Hofer, and this is Back40,
Starting point is 00:09:31 a limited series show on WIRE to Hunt, part of Meat Eaters Podcast Network. Each episode, I'll be asking eight wide-tail hunting pros, a focused, thought-provoking question about hunting and land management. How do I hunt the best part of the farm with less than ideal access. Should you, that's what the real question is.
Starting point is 00:09:49 Stand without good access is not a good stand. Listen to Back 40 on IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Check out Behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved. San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a good. game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team.
Starting point is 00:10:19 We need veteran players and we need young players. Like you're building a team from scratch. And so the succession plan of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier and we watched Ottawa against Chile, pouring rain. Just watching the fans jumping up and down, I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life. Listen to San Diego FC Behind the Flow. Now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Get fired up, y'all.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Season 2 of Good Game with Sarah Spain is underway. We just welcomed one of my favorite people and an incomparable soccer icon, Megan Rapino, to the show, and we had a blast. We talked about her recent 40th birthday. celebrations, co-hosting a podcast with her fiancé Sue Bird, watching former teammates retire and more. Never a dull moment with Pino. Take a listen. What do you miss the most about being a pro athlete? The final. The final. And the locker room. I really, really, like, you just, you can't replicate, you can't get back. Showing up to locker room every morning just to shit talk.
Starting point is 00:11:37 We've got more incredible guests like the legendary Candace Parker and college superstar A. Z. Fud. I mean, seriously, y'all. The guest list is absolutely stacked for season two. And, you know, we're always going to keep you up to speed on all the news and happenings around the women's sports world as well. So make sure you listen to Good Game with Sarah Spain on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports.
Starting point is 00:12:03 You're going to get a good game. You're going to get a good game. But I do think we're in the golden era of football. Oh, Joe, Draft King's been. the NFL team of the best nicknames of all time who should be added okay you got the honey badger tyrant matthew you got a ted hendricks who is the mad stork shan merriman lights out you got hacksaw jack reynolds you got the tasmanian devil you got the assassin jack tatum you got prime you got ed two tall jones uh-huh uh you got the fridge william perry
Starting point is 00:12:43 You got the kitchen, Nate Newton. You got the Minister of Defense, Reggie White, rest of soul. Dick Knight, Turing Lane, rest his soul. And then you got Andre Bad Moon Rising. You got Big Field, Highway 63, Gene Upshaw, bag of donuts, pork chop, the intellectual assassin. I don't know nothing about him. Megatron, Megatron, Megatron, got a cool.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Legatron, Beast Mode, Broadway Joe, the Face Cleaver, and the Avatar. is that Jimmy Graham Is that Jimmy Graham as the avatar? Yes, yes I mean listen All of these NFL nicknames are good They're all good
Starting point is 00:13:24 But we all know who the best nickname is of all time They ain't got you up there on Cho Oh, that's defense I guess we got to ask them No they got an offense They're offence of your Andre Rising Yeah, they had nicknames But I really I really embodied
Starting point is 00:13:39 What it meant to have a nickname By actually changing my name and reinventing myself in the private of my career. That was from a branding marketing aspect, so which makes it obviously the greatest nickname of all time because I really bought in to the character in general. And that character in general has carried me years beyond the game of football. Hell, I ain't took a snapping goddamn 37 years.
Starting point is 00:14:04 But these are all... I like the intellectual assassin. Who is that? That played for the Chargers? Is that Ron Mix? The intellectual assassination, that's a good one. Hey, you know, they don't even have, they don't, I mean, they don't have Walter Paid. They don't got sweetness on there.
Starting point is 00:14:28 The intellectual essay. But, hey, listen, Ocho Cinco. I mean, it speaks for itself. Greatest nickname of all time because I actually, I was 8.5 and when it changed the name, huh? Understands. I saw a vision. Like when I do spoken word. there's a vision. It's a big long term where if you're not, if you're not in deep thought
Starting point is 00:14:46 with me, you're not going to understand it. Who is the intellectual assassin? I ain't never heard of it. I mean, Bambi. Who's Bambi? With Lance Allworth? When's what? You just charges. Okay, okay, okay. Oh, he did. He ran like he ran like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Jack Tadam was the assassin. Yeah. No, the intellectual assassin. The charges. He was the charges.
Starting point is 00:15:22 John, uh, uh, uh, Jack Tater arrested, so he's out of Ohio State. I thought it was Ron Mix. He played, I think, Ocho, I think he played like 12 years and had two holding penalties in 12 years. That's it. Yeah, thank you. That's exactly what I said. Jetta, Justin Jefferson returns to practice. His first time in 25 days, he continues to recover from a left hamstring strain.
Starting point is 00:16:01 He suffered last month. He has a history of hamstring injuries. He missed seven games in 2023 because of a hamstring string to the other. other leg, prompted the Vikings to take a slow approach to his recovery. Today, he participated in warm-ups, individual drills, but sat out seven-on-seven or 11-11. Jefferson won't play in the Vikings' final pre-season game, but do expect to start week one. Yeah. He got some imbalances or something.
Starting point is 00:16:26 He needs to get that looked at. Yeah. What do you think it is, especially when it comes to soft-stitue injuries like that on? What do you think that comes from? Because I don't think he has an injury history. Yeah, I don't, and he don't look like he quad-dominated. And sometimes if a muscle overpowers the other, it will pull. It will pull.
Starting point is 00:16:42 So if, you know, you quad-dominant sometimes or something. So he might, I mean, he might need to get his hips. He might be out of the line or something. Yeah. Yeah. If it fatiged, the muscle, you know, weak muscles pull. Right. But, I mean, you're dealing with elite athletes.
Starting point is 00:17:02 And so I know they have the best physio and the best everything around. he might, you know, maybe his mechanics are off or something, but he might need to take a look at that. Hey, I'm not going to say nothing. I'm not going to say nothing. Obviously, you know my stance when it comes on to soft tissue injuries, when I know my stance on when it comes and getting hurt, but we know how valuable Justin Jefferson is to that team.
Starting point is 00:17:28 And I'm glad he took 25 days and they went slow with him. I think he's a player that training camp would be beneficial, but they're getting back 100% healthy. So he's not one that need training camp like that. But I don't want him having to go from zero to 100, huh, without having to wear and tear that training can't ring because what's going to happen? You get to getting pulled and pushed.
Starting point is 00:17:52 That tug. That's why I used to, hey, guys, man, don't tug me. If I beat you, just let me go. You took, I'm pulling Ocho and you tugged me. Yeah. now I'm going to turn right and swing on you. Right. That's a tough division because we saw the bears
Starting point is 00:18:11 and you and I both think the bears are going to be better this year than they were last year. Absolutely. You believe you say, hey, the lions, I don't see them taking a step back. No, I don't. Then the Packers. You like the Packers.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Joy and love, that receiving court, Josh Jacobs. So that is a very tough division. You can ill afford. Now, they're already going to be the first three games. They're going to be without Jordan Addison because of some issues that he had off the field. Right. So they're going to be without him. And the last thing that you need to happen, a guy coming back from a soft tissue injury, and he retweaks it.
Starting point is 00:18:49 Because now he's probably going to be down doubled amount of time that he missed to begin with. Exactly. Yeah. I hope he gets healthy. I hope he stays healthy because I want to see him on the field. Bless you. Thank you. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:19:03 The man, he covered his mouth after he doesn't need. Ah-choo! Excuse me. Like, damn. It creeped up on me. I know it was coming. I ain't know what's coming. Oh.
Starting point is 00:19:17 You didn't know what coming, huh? Oh. He made little Purell. What's that? Purell. Why are you using that? I'm all the way over here. How would you get me sick?
Starting point is 00:19:28 I'm going to get you sick. I'm all the way in Miami. Hey, boy, that thing you got right there, that day said, you might have Ebola. I don't know. I ain't like, I know what they say. They died in Liberty City, say, a monkey. Say a monkey got to escape. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:48 Say the monkey had Ebola. Say one of them dudes from Liberty City bit the monkey. The monkey bit him. He had Ebola. Right. And the monkey died. Yeah. So the monkey got Ebola.
Starting point is 00:19:58 He beat the dude from Liberty City. What he got? I got. Okay, you're right. You're right. You right. It ain't no telling. Ain't no telling. I'm just trying to figure out how you sneeze and then cover your mind and say, excuse me. It snuck up on me. I didn't know it was coming. Like, that's what happened. When you're really, when you're really sick, you know, I feel like I got a fever. I thought you didn't get sick. How are you getting sick and you eat fast food? You ain't supposed to get sick, remember? I know. I'm probably going to only be like this under one day. As a matter of fact, you can hear my voice. I sound like Barry White
Starting point is 00:20:23 tonight. You hear it? Most of the time when I talk, I got a high, a high pitch, squeaky voice. But tonight, I sound like really sexy, like for radio. No, I'm just trying to figure out. You told me, chat, y'all didn't heard this man say eating a big Macs and eating all that fast food. He don't get sick. I'm just trying to figure out what's really going on. That's it. Well, technically, I'm not sick.
Starting point is 00:20:49 I'm talking like, I'm still here. This is a minor setback. Are you sick? Did you not say you sick? You just told us when you signed on that you was sick. Yeah. I'm good. So are you or are you not sick?
Starting point is 00:21:02 Yes or no? Yes. At like halfway. Because if I was sick, I wouldn't be on here. So I'm able to do, I'm able to work. So I'm not sick, sick. So there's a difference. So if you work from home, if you work from home and sick and you can't work, right.
Starting point is 00:21:17 Something really going on. Yeah, yeah. I understand. But some people, some people, when they get sick, sick, even if they are home, they can't do nothing. They can't function. See, I'm fighting through it. I'm fighting through it. my body, on the inside, you know, my immune system,
Starting point is 00:21:31 they're in there like this. Right. And they're going to work. So on the outside, I'm cold, but on the inside, I mean, on the inside, I'm cold, but on the outside, I got the AC off and I'm sweating, but on the inside, I got chills. I mean, it's weird. So this doesn't happen to me often at all. So I'm going to be all right, though.
Starting point is 00:21:51 I'm going to be all right, though. Man, and, Ocho, you know, I hate, I hate when guys, I'm a firm believer. You limp in the season on show. You know how you coming out of it. Lipping out of it. Limping out of it. I just hate that for general. Because, man, you're talking about off to a historic start?
Starting point is 00:22:08 Absolutely. Oh, my gosh. I think it's going to continue, though. I think it's going to be all right. It's going to continue. I don't, I don't, like I said, that's an extremely tough division. You could ill afford to have him and Addison out. Plus, you got Jay McCartney, who's in his second year,
Starting point is 00:22:31 but this really is first year starting. Right. You're asking an awful lot. You're asking an awful lot of a young quarterback to go out there and to do what you need him to do. Mm-hmm. What I just wanted to say, I just hope a Jetta can stay healthy for the entire season.
Starting point is 00:22:47 Yeah. Because they're going to need them. They got no chance. They got no chance. Remember KJ.R. KJ. Osborne is in Washington. Washington now, yeah. Addison is going to miss the first three And then, you know
Starting point is 00:23:00 He warmed up the day But like you said, he didn't do 707 He didn't do 11 on 11 And he's not going to play in the final preseason game Which is Friday or Saturday Right So boy And it's just a turn A
Starting point is 00:23:12 And then in 10 days Just go Yeah Yeah Yeah I'm hoping I'm hoping he's going to be all right You too Yeah
Starting point is 00:23:23 Like I said He's on a historic place Yeah. Historic. The numbers that he's put up as far as yards, as far as catches, it's just we haven't seen anything like it. They haven't seen anything like it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:39 Like I said, I mean, he's going to have to go see some specialists and see what he's doing wrong that causes the keep causing these soft tissue injuries. Because, you know, another guy, you know what he need to call Joey Galloway. Ask Joey Galloway what he did. Yeah, Joey, Joe. Joy was hurt, Seahaw? See, Joy was the speed guy.
Starting point is 00:23:58 Joy running for two. Yeah. Joy, running too fast. Oh, so we got laid. Are we going to burn him out in practice? Or we're going to, hey, let him take a couple of plays and then say that for the game. Right, right, right. I think, I think Isaac Bruce dealt with some hamstring injuries also.
Starting point is 00:24:15 I'm not sure. So that's definitely a situation that he might need to go. Hey, hey, guys, you know, y'all dealt with some hamstring injuries. How did you go? How did you go about it? you know yeah how did you play such a long time and and get over those debate started on ig which year had the best quarterback class 2018 you got mayfield donald allen and jackson versus joe burrow herbert who 2018 2020 oh cho what you got hey that's a that's a good one
Starting point is 00:24:46 that is a good one that's a good one um you got three you got three MVP's right and uh and and in one draft class and you got a guy that's been to the Super Bowl and a guy that's been to the Super Bowl twice. You got two guys have been to three Super Bowls. Yeah. And one guy's won
Starting point is 00:25:10 and one Super Bowl MVP. So what you're going with, Ocho? Ooh, that's hard. God, yeah, that's hard. I mean, listen, I'm going to have to go, I'm going to have to go to 2020. Because, I mean, there's one Super Bowl champion down there. There's one Super Bowl champion down there.
Starting point is 00:25:32 Listen, I know Lamar winning MVP, Josh Allen winning MVP, but I think Josh Allen's MVP is like, here, damn, is one of those, one of those moments, you know. But, yeah, I got to go. I mean, the ultimate goal at the end of the day is to win a Super Bowl. Joe's been the one. He didn't win it because they cheated us on their fourth and one call
Starting point is 00:25:54 on Logan Wilson. Hey, that wasn't past interference. That wasn't past interference. Oh, Eli, Apple, on what you call them on a, on a, on a, no, I'm talking about Logan Wilson on Cooper Cup on that on the, um. Yeah, come on Ocho. No, no, no, no. Other than that, I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm going to 2020. Yeah, 2020.
Starting point is 00:26:14 Yeah, so I think you almost have to because if you look at player for player, okay. Uh, better quarterback. class just better just to just it's harder than you think yeah but Sam Sam Donald messing it up for 2018 right I mean because had a research as you you look at Baker what he's done the last two years yeah Josh Allen outside of his rookie year has been sensational Lamar Jackson came in even as a rookie off the bench and he's been sensational since the day he's got there
Starting point is 00:26:54 uh oh man damn yeah i like it i like it a lot like i got to go with jalen simply because he got what everybody is is yearning for and the ultimate goal when you when you get the training camp i got i got i got agree with you i mean if you go play if you go player for player now you can you can get you can get you can get ridiculous with it and move the goalposts and try to say skills and armed talent and yeah oh yeah yeah and then now that changes things up when you start getting a little bit more detailed and who the the better class is but again people
Starting point is 00:27:36 move the goalposts based on their preference and what they like and said quarterback each class got a number one overall pick Baker was number one yeah Joe Burrow was number one Sam Donald was number three. Justin Herbert was what, number six? Sam Donald was three. Justin Herbert was what, six? Six. Joy and love was like 20, 20, what, 26?
Starting point is 00:28:11 Josh Allen was seven. Lamar Jackson was 32. Jalen Hertz was in the second round. Oh, Tula was in 2020. wow two of was in the 2020
Starting point is 00:28:25 also he was yeah remember he went to pick he went before uh uh
Starting point is 00:28:33 herber yeah I don't know I don't know I don't know about that because
Starting point is 00:28:51 83 you had Elway in the hall Jim Kelly's in the hall John's in the hall so you got three Hall of Famers there John went to five Super Bowls Elway went to one Super Bowl Kelly went to four Super Bowl
Starting point is 00:29:07 so that's ten Super Bowl appearances damn I don't think these classes go catch that don't Joe? Nah I'm Who else in the Todd Blackledge didn't do too much. Ken O'Brien was that draft too, right?
Starting point is 00:29:31 Because he went to the Jets. John went one to the Colts. John O'Leod and Blackledge. Kelly, Easton, Brian, Marina. Yeah. Tony Ethan went to, he went. to New England. Tony,
Starting point is 00:29:53 Tony Easton. That's a Tony Easton, not a lineman, is he? No, he's quarterback. Quarterback, yeah, okay. 18 might, hey. Hey, they already got more MVP, 2018 already got more MVP than 83.
Starting point is 00:30:19 Because Lamar got two and Alan got one, so that's three. They only got two in 83. We got one, Marino, got one. Right. Hey, guys, it's AZ Fudd. You may know me as a gold medalist. You may know me as an NCAA national champion and recent most outstanding player. You may even know me as a People's Princess, but now you're also going to know me as your favorite host.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Every week on my new podcast, Fud around and find out. out, I'll give you an inside look at everything happening in my crazy life as I try to balance it all. But this show is the only place where you can really fud around and find out.
Starting point is 00:31:21 Listen to Fud Around and Find Out, a production of IHart women's sports and partnership with unanimous media on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. I'm Jake Hofer, and this is Back 40, a limited series show on Wire to Hunt, part of Meat Eater's podcast network. Each episode, I'll be asking eight white-tail hunting pros, a focused, thought-provoking question about hunting and land management. How do I hunt the best part of the farm with less than ideal access?
Starting point is 00:31:51 Should you? That's what the real question is. Stand without good access is not a good stand. Listen to Back 40 on iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. Check out Behind the Flow, a podcast documentary series following the launch of San Diego Football Club. We go behind the scenes and explore the stories of those involved. San Diego coming to MLS is going to be a game changer because this region has been hungry for a men's professional soccer team. We need veteran players and we need young players.
Starting point is 00:32:25 Like you're building a team from scratch. And so the succession plan of long-term success needs to be defined. We need to embrace this community. When I was 13, my uncle took me to a qualifier. And we watched Ottawa against Chile, pouring rain, just watching the fans jumping up and down. I think that was definitely a watershed moment for me. Not only was that going to be my game, but it was going to be my life. Listen to San Diego FC Behind the Flow.
Starting point is 00:32:55 Now on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Get fired up, y'all. Season two of Good Game with Sarah Spain is underway. We just welcomed one of my favorite people and an incomparable soccer icon, Megan Rapino, to the show. and we had a blast. We talked about her recent 40th birthday celebrations, co-hosting a podcast with her fiancé Sue Bird,
Starting point is 00:33:21 watching former teammates retire and more. Never a dull moment with Pino. Take a listen. What do you miss the most about being a pro athlete? The final. The final. And the locker room. I really, really, like, you just,
Starting point is 00:33:34 you can't replicate, you can't get back. Showing up to locker room every morning just to shit talk. We've got more incredible guests like the legendary Candace Parker and college superstar A.Z. Fudd. I mean, seriously, y'all.
Starting point is 00:33:49 The guest list is absolutely stacked for season two. This is it over here, 2018 versus 2020.
Starting point is 00:34:12 And they didn't even put two in. there. No. Oh, Cho, which do-all are you taking? You taking sweetness and AP. You're taking Jim Brown and ED. You're taking Baron Sanders and Marshall Falk or you're taking L.T. and Emmett. Woo. Is that AD in sweetness? Yeah. Yeah, I'm going AD in sweetness. Hey, man, look at, man, look at Jim. man, Jill Bryan won the MVP as a rookie. I hear you.
Starting point is 00:34:45 I hear you, but I saw AJ people in his prime. I know, I know. I'm going with all day in sweetness. No disrespect to Barry. Barry's the real deal. LaDany and Thompson was the real deal. That's a good one.
Starting point is 00:34:57 That's a good one. I like, I like AD. And matter of fact, AD and sweetness is really basically the same back. Man. I'm trying to figure out how you're going to tackle Marshall and Barry on turf?
Starting point is 00:35:15 You're not. You not. Listen, the first man is going to miss every time. Ooh. That's, that's hard. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:35:28 I love it. Jim Brown and ED, they are running backs. They don't throw it to a hand it to him. Downhill. 30 times. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I like sweetness in 80, man.
Starting point is 00:35:46 Boy, was. But that's a good one. That's a really good one. Yeah. Who you picking? Who you going with? Man, all them touchdowns. I mean, Emmy got like a hundred and sixty-something touchdowns.
Starting point is 00:35:59 L.T. got about 140. They got about 300 touchdown between the two of them. Right. I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm taking, I'm sorry. Can you, can you imagine Barry with this spread and the spread off of it with, with one back, just Barry, and they got, and they got nickel defense on the field? All right, that wouldn't be fair. Because the first, do you, do you, do you realize we have yet to see a back like that until today? You'll never see another back like him. seen nothing like that um you can make a case that shady mccoy might be the closest thing we've seen to him yeah but that too but the two foot stop is what separates back come to balance yeah nah we're not gonna see just throw if you come to balance you're not tackling him no at all if he if he stopped and you stop you don't you not would just say let him go on past
Starting point is 00:37:06 yeah you got to throw you got to take your shot it's basically like a punt like they teach you on the a punt return, Ocho? Go ahead and throw. Don't come to balance. Yeah, you got to shoot. Got to shoot your shot. Yeah. Brown's officially named Joe Flacco starter week one. The 40-Ocho will be making his first
Starting point is 00:37:24 week one start since 2022 wins with the Jets. TBD on the rest of the depth chart. Kenny Pickett has not played since July 26. Dylan Gabriel nursed the injury. He came in played Saturday. Shador Sanders started the preseason game. He's got
Starting point is 00:37:40 an oblique injury. He did not play Saturday, and Snoop Hunley was the guy that they signed to get them through camp. Adam Schuster said this morning, I expect Cleveland Browns to carry four quarterbacks on the roster. Yeah. Well. Are you surprised they're going to carry this many quarterbacks on you? I mean, it's, I'm not surprised. It's not something that teams normally do. They do not. Yeah, when you need a position, you know, that they can play elsewhere, especially on special teams. So it's going to, that happens, having four quarterback is going to take a job away from someone else. You absolutely right.
Starting point is 00:38:16 Someone else is going to have to do double time on different positions because they're keeping a fourth quarterback. So, I mean, listen, this is, this is rare. But I understand the problem that they are having. But, hey, listen, I said Joe Flack was going to start. I don't know the order in which the backups are going to be. But, I mean, at any point when Joe Flacko was not playing, playing well. We know what he can do. He's going to get you on a five, six game running, winning streak, going all over the place looking crazy. Then all of a sudden, you got them,
Starting point is 00:38:49 the bottom is going to fall out. Yeah, the bottom is going to fall out. You're going to know what's going on. So I'm, I'm excited. I'm excited for, I'm excited for the Browns. I know one thing. Week one, we going down there to Cleveland out there in the water. Oh, man, that all them count. No victory. We're going to put up 50. You should. I tell you what. What?
Starting point is 00:39:15 Man, I don't know if you've seen Miles Garrett. He's been bending the edge, Ocho. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, listen, Miles Garrett is going to be Miles Garrett no matter who he's playing. We're going to lock that up. Okay. Ocho, every team's number of quarterback
Starting point is 00:39:32 since the start of the 2020 season. Look at this. Cleveland had 11 quarterback start since 2020 The Saints 9 Washington 9 Colts 8 Broncos 8
Starting point is 00:39:47 Giants 8 Bears 8 Hey it's so funny I saw two people were complaining On Twitter today Mad at What they complained about Had it myself and you
Starting point is 00:40:01 For saying that Drew Brees is the reason why the Saints aren't doing well because they chose not you didn't hear the conversation you didn't hear what we're saying no they took it when you have a quarterback like a breeze like a manning like a like a Brady right
Starting point is 00:40:20 they're so good for so long and they don't get hurt the last thing that you want to do is tick them off by taking a quarterback early to be the bridge coach bellichick was thinking but he he was starting to build a bridge too early yeah that's what we mean so breeze was so good for so long they're like well he's gonna play forever and when it a lot of times oh cho it's like when it go down hill it go down fast oh yeah
Starting point is 00:40:49 oh yeah and you saw with breeze i mean you look at look at breeze the year before and then the next thing he gets nick and it's over yeah but what we got we ain't got nothing oh joe because we hadn't taken a quarterback in so long since we yeah same thing with Peyton manning Peyton Manning that had not missed the start. Yeah. He gets Nick, he plays the rest of the season, he has surgery in the offseason. Yep. Ain't the same sense.
Starting point is 00:41:20 So that's what we mean by that. We're not, I'm just saying, we're not blaming him. But because quarterbacks and organizations don't want to take that guy off, they're hesitant to take a quarterback. early especially drafted high now you take a guy to six or seven the round fifth or six round that ain't no threat you take one in the first the second round that's a threat to it yeah mm-hmm now you're looking over your show remember what coach bellichick took jimmy j oh yeah what did mr craft instruct coach bellichick to do trade him get him up out of there that's
Starting point is 00:41:56 what we're talking about guys mm-hmm NFL players would no longer be punished for using a bow and arrow celebration. Eagles, uh, uh, outside land backer, what, how you said, Jalen? Jailet's hunt was fined $5,600, well, $5,700 for using the boy and out of celebration in the Super Bowl. But that's something the league will no longer penalize, according to referee, Land Clark. It's a weapon. Cupid Wo back your bow, whoa.
Starting point is 00:42:37 What'd you think, Ocho? You like it? Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Let them have some fun. Let them have some fun. By all means. By all means, you know, I'm all for it. As long as you don't do any gestures that have to do with these, none of this. Right.
Starting point is 00:42:57 No six shooters. Six shooters. Yeah. throat slash remember the throat slash see they used to let you do the throat slash they won't let you do some throat slash though over there yeah yeah outside of that man just let them boys have some fun man oh chow we got great news alburn wilbert tie cam newton's number two cam became the first cc player to record a 2,000 yard passing season a 1,000 yard rushing season he had 2854 yards 14703 yards rushing he accounted for 51 touchdowns
Starting point is 00:43:30 30 passing, 20 rushing, one receiving, while helping Auburn go 14 and 0 in winning the national championship against Oregon. Cam Swept, the major college football awards. 2000, he won the Maxwell, Walter Camp, the Manning, the Davey O'Brien, an AP player of the year, as well as the Heisman Trophy. Oh, Joe, I just got a simple question.
Starting point is 00:43:54 Talk to me. Why won't Carolina show that man to love that Auburn is showing? I'm not sure. I'm not sure. He said, remember we did, I think we did the topic with it last year that he took his son and there were no pictures of him on the wall at the facility? Oh, that's right.
Starting point is 00:44:08 He did. He did say that. I don't know. I don't know. That's something we would have to probably ask him that internally. I'm not sure how things. No, we have to. You can't ask Cam because Cam don't know why.
Starting point is 00:44:19 We need to ask the organization. Yeah. Yeah. I ain't, I ain't no telling. I ain't no telling how things ended with Cam. Even though we came back, we, it's no telling. You'll never know, especially for a quarterback of that magnitude that did the things that he did for the Carolina Panthers. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:36 To a soup bowl, one of the MVP, rookie of the year. Yeah. Pro bowler, all pro. But that's amazing. Congratulations, Cam. Very deserving. I can make a case that's the greatest college season for a quarterback. I know Joe had, I know Joe numbers.
Starting point is 00:44:55 Right. But Joe ain't throwing out those numbers with the receivers that Cam has. he didn't do it that and I don't know I think he had one I don't think he had an offensive lineman I mean did anybody play more than a year in the NFL on Cam's team on the offense because I know he had a defensive lineman that went like I think top 10 to the the lions but if you look at his offensive weapons and what he was able to do yeah well Cam was a real deal back there Man, Cam was crazy with it.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Mm-hmm. I mean, off the chain. Yeah. I don't know if we'll never see. Lamar had an unbelievable season. I mean, the year he won the Heisman. Yeah. Well, actually, the year that he finished that he, the next year,
Starting point is 00:45:48 he was even better than the year that he won the Heism. But if you go back and look at it. Yeah. Because he threw for like 3,500 yards and had 1500 yards rushing. That's crazy. But congratulations, Cam. University of Auburn, no one else will be able to wear the number two. That's live.
Starting point is 00:46:13 Now it's time, final segment of the evening, it's time for Q and A. Hey. said, Ocho sounded like Keith Sweat. He made a fun of my voice. So you sounded like Keith Sweat? Nah, I sound like Barry White tonight. Kemper Noah Wood Jr. said, oh, I have the Bengals going 10 to 6 this season, but they lose to the Broncos in week four.
Starting point is 00:46:48 I agree, Keper. That's funny. Aaron Owen says, I don't know who's softer. Charmin or the Bengals' defense? Vingles defense. Relax. Y'all relax. It's just the preseason.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Just the preseason. It's not getting... Uh, T.J. Ryder said, hey, trade Terry for trade. They don't need another receiver. They ain't fit to pay no... Another receiver? Man, you...
Starting point is 00:47:14 They ain't been to have no $100 million receiving court. They already got a $70 million receiving core. Hey, he's trying to play Madden. He acting like his Madden. Apache Hawks and Uncle in wrestling, the word receipt means
Starting point is 00:47:27 when your opponent hits you too hard, you owe them a receipt by hitting them harder. Is there anyone you played with or against that you felt you owe the receipt? Yeah. Brian Cox
Starting point is 00:47:41 when he's with the Jets. Brian Brown. Yeah, Brian Russell when he's with the Cleveland Braves. Oh, he got me too, though. When he was at Minnesota. Not me out cold. I'm talking about out cold.
Starting point is 00:47:57 that was on the field like are you reaching for that rope yeah man he got me good that was my only that was my only that's my one and only man well all I'd never forget this old Joe and and hold on I'm trying to think what year was it it was 99 uh-huh and uh greased it through a pick and I'm chasing and I see it I was like man let me let me go get I think Vic the Green picked it uh-huh man I took like two steps parallel to the ground I'm in the air and I'm cursing B Cox I know that with your dirty ass ain't nobody each of a man how you know with me I said because they I'm like man he's like sharp how you know it with me because I know it was
