Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an iHeart Podcast. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on Good Company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of 2B. We dive into the competitive world of streaming. Would others dismiss as niche we embrace as core? There are so many stories out there. And if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen. Listen to Good Company on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Starting point is 00:00:40 podcasts. Hi, I'm Sarah Spain, host of Good Game with Sarah Spain and the co-author of the new book Runs in the Family, an incredible true story of football, fatherhood and belonging written with and about Las Vegas Raiders running backs coach Dylan McCullough. It's the story of a football coach and father of four who sees his life forever changed by the unsealing of his adoption records. And it's got a twist you won't believe. Based on the viral ESPN story I did a few years ago, this book will blow your mind and bring you to tears.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Buy runs in the family wherever books are sold. I read a little bit about it and Adrian Peterson said you know we've been friends it's kind of like brothers you know hey hey it happened it is what it is and we moved on we cool now oh no we not cool you know your brother ain't fighting like that and nah nah nah nah and guess what we can't be cool like that. You swing swing it on me like that. You hear me? Yeah, I got I got to get my leg back. Oh, yeah, I'm so some somebody was up in there cheating Be bad be sitting on some cars or something they playing poker right? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah And before somebody to be for you to go at your med's like that. Yeah. Yeah, I don't call it Somebody that lost a couple hands somebody that lost their ass Joe. There we go. There we go. There you go You are you get you fired up. Hey, you catch a bad beat
Starting point is 00:02:16 Joker best ride to get to hit that turn on to hit that thing on the real book Yeah, look, uh, I'm telling you man, I used to, every year, I used to bring my family here to Atlanta, and she about 15, 20 of us in here. And we played poker, we played spades, dominoes, and I beat Daniel, I'm talking about my mama, my mama got four brothers, she the only girl, she was the only girl, man, it was a fight every year.
Starting point is 00:02:53 I ain't gonna lie to you, my office is a fight, yeah, they fight, yeah, they was gonna fight, oh, some cheating, boy, I'm talking about we be sitting there, we playing poker, spades, it's gonna be some real tough talking, and that's gonna lead to a little tussle. Yeah. So my grandma had to come down here and get on them. Hey, what? Yeah. Yeah. Hey, beat me, don't cheat me.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Hey, that cheat, hey man, look here, babe. That's what I tell people all the time. People think it's a joke. I say, man, money out of sight will cause a fight. Man, I'm telling you it don't gotta be though and they and you like man, bro Y'all fighting over two dollars. It ain't it ain't it's the principle of the matter You got to understand bro. Yeah for them two dollars five dollars. That's hard-earned money And yeah, somebody will knock your block off for two dollars man. Listen, I Had to stop a fight over here in my house Over $20, man man by the pull a gun out. Yeah, I can't make it up over $20 He thought of me and cheated him over $20, man. He read it. He read it pull that thing on
Starting point is 00:04:01 Okay, cut the house you got that you got that strap on you got to a lead at the truck Man, you can't cut the dial. You got that strap on, you got to, hey, leave that in the truck. Like the first cut, because sometimes, Joe, you get so mad, you'll react so quick, and you be done pop somebody, you're like, can't take it back. Can't take it back, nah, bro. It's around, yeah. But in college, man, cheat on, man.
Starting point is 00:04:22 They used to cheat, y'all were cheating. You reneged, you said, bro, his car's sitting down. Who cares? Ain't no money at stake. Man, look, it's something about us, man. And don't get to drinking. You know, anytime alcohol and Bob Joe, gonna be a lot of tough talking that's gonna lead to some trouble.
Starting point is 00:04:41 Yeah. That's what they're talking about, dude. What? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, you're right. The alcohol bring all that tough talking out. So yeah, and the next thing you know, it's a big fight. So yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 00:04:55 You put that alcohol mixed in with that gambling. Man, that's why I hate, man. I hate it when the weekend come when I was in college One thing if you had to go to you know, somebody got a friend, you know Have a kid party is one thing to go get them and they fight somebody else But you know when it's your teammates and you know how much testosterone guys got and guys don't want to let Ish go because you know whoever lose, oh, oh, will he come to stretch it and I will get and I'm in the line and you come out there with your eye closed.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Oh, I boy, I'm going to run. Oh, we gotta go here. Oh, going into the cafeteria. Oh, man. Hey, that bus ride. Oh, boy, we cafeteria? Oh man. Hey, bus ride. Oh boy, we're not letting that go.
Starting point is 00:05:52 Hey, but it's, and look, I done hung out with football players when I was in college. So I know, boy, Hey, look, you don't take much for y'all to get your out. Right. Much at all. Look, you go to one of them cute dog parties and one of them capital party. Man, listen, you already know what's happening. I said, bro, bro, why y'all go? And that's when, you know, the guy, they didn't want to invite the football players because if they got a keg, the football players gonna take it.
Starting point is 00:06:12 What you gonna do? What you gonna do? They come back, we ain't got no money. So the next thing I know, they got a keg. That's right, man. We took it out such as awesome. Oh, Lord. Man, we had to do, man, we had to do, uh, uh, uh, I ain't gonna call this, man. We took it out such as awesome. Oh, Lord. I'm... Man, we had a dude, man. We had a dude, uh, uh, uh... I ain't gonna call his name. I feel so bad for him. They stole a keg, but they didn't have the spout
Starting point is 00:06:35 to pump it up. Yeah. To stick it down in there and sort of come out. He looked around. He went to his car. He got a tire on. He said, man, I'm gonna bust it over to we take the cans up out of it They say fool if you hit that with that time that thing gonna explode and kill all of us He actually thought chains were inside of it
Starting point is 00:07:14 And I say bro, I mean, but Joe, I hated like, cause when them Joe was like, you know, we called ourselves, we called ourselves T5. So if anybody came back, hey, T5, T5 bout to squabble. Don't even matter. Put your stuff on, hit the duck. Don't, don't. Well, we should, hey, cuz we can shut down anything. Any party or whoever, didn't matter. But I was like, bro, come on, why? Bro, I see, I'm the guy, I see everybody knew who I was.
Starting point is 00:07:41 I said, y'all get to go ride through the city. I'm all out of the city. I over them bump MLK, you know, I said, oh, I'm all on stops. I'm rolling They know me. I got a Z. I got a white Mercedes. I said bro y'all put me in this bro Yeah, well y'all don't go nowhere. I'm out in the bow Y'all they catch me slippin be hell out of me for some good job. Y'all did Come on fellas. Hey, hey, let me tell you something. The football guys always, always was fighting, y'all. They were. That's what they couldn't drink.
Starting point is 00:08:13 And we see in the thing, because they were drinking that cheap liquor. They were drinking that Elba Clear. Ooh. They get on that, they get on that hunch punch. Man, listen. Yeah. They go to the store, so they come back. They got two bunches of bananas.
Starting point is 00:08:26 They got grapes. They got strawberries. They got oranges. So I'm like, who buy? I'm like, what the hell y'all buying that? Now they got this big old tub. They mix all them liquors together. Yeah. Talk about, boy, you talk about something good.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Man, they be drawing that emacle, that emacle 180, 190 proof. Joe, you go by the room, Man, that bitch on that emma-cleaner, that emma-cleaner, 180, 190 proof. Yo, you go by that room, them jookas staring out the window. You kidding? It's a trauma guy. Come on, dude. Can't wait for somebody to say something to her so they can pop off.
Starting point is 00:08:58 I already know. If I see them leave, leave the door at 10, 30, 11, with their shirt off, I put my stuff, I put my clothes back on because I know I got to go get somebody. Who leaves the dorm 10, 30, 11 o'clock
Starting point is 00:09:15 with their shirt off? They already sweating. You already know it. You know what it is. They looking for that action. They do, bro. I say, come on, man. Damn.
Starting point is 00:09:26 Can one weekend, y'all just go to the party and just have a good time. Just be normal. Nah, that ain't happening. Not when you mix the alcohol in there. You put the alcohol in there. It's called that liquid courage. You already know.
Starting point is 00:09:40 The first person to say something to me is on. Teal off. Yeah. I said, Lord have mercy. I just trying to talk to somebody. Girl, bro, you know she got a man. First of all, the campus only so big. You see him walking.
Starting point is 00:09:55 He holding her hand, got her books. You see him eat together in the cafeteria. And all of a sudden they at a party. Because you don't see him you feel That's me. Hey look look look look. That's that's mainly how it pop off There's yeah, so I'm dealing with a female Cuz look in Fairview We had this little spot on the campus called little Africa. That's why all the black put all the black people hung out They yeah, I got with the name little Africa. I'm kind of feeling
Starting point is 00:10:22 All the black people hung out at all. Yeah. I kinda with the name Lil Africa, I'm kinda feelin' a bunch of us there. You a miss class, you a miss class hangin' on Lil Africa. See? It used to be jumpin', it used to be jumpin'. But man, listen, you'll see girls who you really don't never see, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:10:40 And yeah, they got a boyfriend, maybe they ain't told you, but you steady on her road, steady to talk to her and where it get back Now next thing you know once you see him at a party you already know this is about yeah And then and bro if you see the girl standing and she talking with somebody how you gonna go? Okay, this the female this the guy and they talking how you gonna go squeeze in there and you talking to her you got your back to him What do you bet? Hey? Hey, that's the alcohol Man sharp a do do swung on me bro So what did you expect him to do you walk him? Did you see them talking?
Starting point is 00:11:19 You know that's his girl and you gonna go turn your back on him and talk a Hey, look, look, you know, you know y'all be rude. Man, them football players be rude. They do, Joe. I mean, look, I went to one party in four years. I was in my room. I just already know when they sharp, sharp, such as such. Because look, a lot of them was cute-os anyways.
Starting point is 00:11:45 Oh, but here's the thing no Joe Who you look if you in a fraternity and T5 the football team you better choose wisely I'm telling you you owe you oh bitch. I'm afraid I got a problem with that Doesn't know my that's my brothers you know choose Kappa you with the uh, the Alphas you know the Sigma. I don't care, but with the Kappa, you with the Alphas, you with the Sigmas. I don't care, but you best believe it now, you there. And once we know you there, we gonna tear your ass up too. Hey, don't play now.
Starting point is 00:12:16 It's too many y'all, it's too many y'all. Hey, it can be 15 of them. We ain't even by five or six. Man. We ain't even by five or six, Joe. I've always divorced a reason. I'm always, come on, guy, bro. Look, man, you know them, bro, my bad. He didn't know it was dark.
Starting point is 00:12:35 He didn't know that was your girl. My bad, I'm lying my ass off. He know that. He been talking about, man, that old girl been hollering. Look, have mercy. You know what I'm saying? All right have mercy. You know what I'm saying? I told you all, hey, that old girl, man. I said, bro, you know she got a girl.
Starting point is 00:12:49 I mean a boy, man, ain't got nothing to do with me. Right, right. But dude, why you still trying to talk? Man, man, trying to hear that, he feel like this is chance. And then boy, like you say, Joe, them Joe will start that thing. It don't let us get work study. Oh, we get that work-study check on Friday.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Cuttin' up. Act like a damn fool. Really? Hey, look, I hung out with some of them, man. I hung out with some of them. Act like a fool. I knew right away. I said, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I can't hang out with y'all two, man. Boy, look.
Starting point is 00:13:20 I'm way too chill for that. When you got people that's looking for stuff stuff, they don't looking. They ain't looking to have a good time. They looking to eff some issue up. Yeah, yeah, that's how it go. Hey, boy, college is something else. It's one of the best years of my life,
Starting point is 00:13:41 but boy, listen, you learn a lot of lessons in college. Learn a lot of lessons in college. You learn a lot of lessons in college. Yeah. So I was like, nah, I'm good bro. I'm good with y'all. I can't hang out with y'all. I come get y'all and get y'all ass back to the door. But probably just hanging out with y'all
Starting point is 00:13:58 and doing stuff, cause I already know. Y'all gonna be on some bull jive and then, ain't nobody, everybody know who I am. That Sterling Sharp little brother. I mean that's Shannon Sharp Shannon sharp wasn't in no fight Shana shark came to get the ends from fight, but your name gonna be in the mix be My name first Shadow what he beat the fight Shana showed up late to get a man Joe. We ought to use that with thing The freshman so it was the freshmen against the upper class ones.
Starting point is 00:14:30 So like, we would jump on, like we catch a senior, like we catch a senior or junior by themselves, man we beat them jugglers down. So, so you know the thing is, we used to call it roofing. Yeah. We would bring the house down on you. So we called, we called about six of them, about six of them seniors. It was about 15 freshmen. Man, we beat them down. You know, we dumped them. You know, we did, hey, boom, boom, hey, hey, oh we can't even talk about, you know, we did, hey, boom, boom, hey, hey, oh, we can't even talk now. You know, we ain't hit up anything, but we to the body, slam the ass.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Man, we had one guy named Leo. I'm Michael Kassin, founder and CEO of 3C Ventures and your guide on Good Company, the podcast where I sit down with the boldest innovators shaping what's next. In this episode, I'm joined by Anjali Sood, CEO of Tubi for a conversation that's anything but ordinary. We dive into the competitive world of streaming, how she's turning so-called niche into mainstream gold,
Starting point is 00:15:37 connecting audiences with stories that truly make them feel seen. What others dismiss as niche, we embrace as core. It's this idea that there are so many stories out there, and if you can find a way to curate and help the right person discover the right content, the term that we always hear from our audience is that they feel seen.
Starting point is 00:15:59 Get a front row seat to where media, marketing, technology, entertainment, and sports collide, and hear how leaders like Anjali are carving out space and shaking things up a bit in the most crowded of markets. Listen to Good Company on the iHeart radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man?
Starting point is 00:16:27 What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man?
Starting point is 00:16:35 What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man?
Starting point is 00:16:43 What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? What's up, man? Okay, what we gonna do? Hey, we catch such a sight by themselves. We gonna roof and so Leo older than everybody But he a freshman so we asked Leo Leo who you with? Leo say I'm by myself I said Leo, I said Leo you can't be by yourself. You got to be with somebody Leo say no, I don't ain't none of them ends gonna bother me. I promise you. I said, Leo, just team up. Say, no, I don't play like that.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Because when I put these things on somebody, I'm gonna really put them on. Do me the main ones. Hey, ain't nobody bother Leo. No, nobody. Man, we had a dude, we had a dude, man. Joe, dude was 6'3", and I'm talking about Chisell. When he cut, I mean, he was like 6'3",
Starting point is 00:17:33 about 245, 250, cut out of granted. Cut out of granted. Did nobody play with him? No. He, man, he was in the hallway, he had his shirt off. He walked up, put his fingers in his face, the old boy's face.
Starting point is 00:17:54 You soft and you ain't gonna do nothing. I'm gonna turn my back on you. I'm gonna show everybody in the hallway that you ain't about this life. Nah. And I wish somebody would touch me. I promise you, I told y'all he been selling them wolf tickets, and I ain't buy not one of them. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Joe, you're right. That was some of the best times in college.
Starting point is 00:18:26 But Savannah State, Joe, you had to be real careful. Because guys would just shoot down the hallway. And so we had those steel doors. All of a sudden, you're a pop. The bullets rookie shed off the steel doors. What you mean, bullets? And the dudes would shoot down the hall. Man, come on. Come on, man.
Starting point is 00:18:48 What type of game these dudes playing? Yo, I'm telling you it was a different level down there, Joe. A guy get mad like, you be on the phone cause we had community phones. Nobody had a phone in their room. We had what we had the long hall and the short hall. So you have a phone on the short
Starting point is 00:19:04 hall, you had a phone on the long haul. So you know guys be trying to talk to their girlfriend or their mom or something, grandma. Yeah. Be loud. Hey man, close your door. Turn your music down. Close your door. I only got a couple more minutes. F you, Ian! Yeah. So guess what? Dude get off the phone, snatch the phone off the wall. Now we ain't got no phone with Joe.
Starting point is 00:19:28 He'll just snatch that one off, he go snatch the other one off. So both phones down, so now can't nobody get no calls. Oh man, we had phones in our dorm room. So it's dope. But boy, it looked like y'all, that might've been borderline little prison y'all was in. Oh, Joe.
Starting point is 00:19:46 Oh, and don't try to wash your clothes. Hey, wash your clothes. And man, if you see somebody with your eyes all shirt on, you see somebody with your three, hey, come on man, think about my ish, man. God damn. Hey, hey, will you wash your, yeah, man, you know that ish me.
Starting point is 00:19:59 Hey, hey, will you wash your clothes? You gotta sit down and wait for me. You gotta sit down and wash them. And you gotta wash it the whole time. Basically. Because you come down and have somebody up in there and take your stuff out of there and put the hell in. And they're absolute.
Starting point is 00:20:13 Now you don't see. He, he, he, he, he, he. Yeah, I know exactly what you talking about. Boy, talk different. They was off the chain back in the day, man. Now I think it's a lot more chill now. But when I got is the battle state boy. We had some knucklehead man. We had to pull Yeah, it's we had them athletic doing so it was all athletes So, you know we got you got two three washing machines and drives and somebody washing it all times
Starting point is 00:20:41 So it's either all the day. Yeah, so you watching your clothes, boy, they're gonna be sitting on the floor somewhere. Yeah. Joe, and the thing was, think about it. We, so we had all the football players, all the basketball players, and a few baseball players. Peacock Hall was the athlete's dorm. Yeah. Bro, so basically we had three floors you got a Washing dryer two washes two drives per floor. Yeah. I
Starting point is 00:21:17 Wish you would take your eyes off there Baby I like man and then And then my brother, my brother, you know, so I had gone to a university of South Carolina where they got phones in their room. They got like seven, eight washes and dries and stuff. My brother looked at me and said, man, y'all live like this? Like, yeah. But we be clean going to class, Joe. They go in the class in sweat suits.
Starting point is 00:21:42 Man, we got stars jeans. We got Ozod. We got, you know, we got a polo. Yeah. Hey, we got dark side. I mean, we dressed to the nines. My brother said, man, y'all go to class like, I said, every day. Yeah, man, we had dudes go to class every day
Starting point is 00:21:56 with their shirt tucked in. Oh, yeah. It was like that. Yeah, them dudes, they were like, yeah. Oh, yeah. Shadour Sanders has picked up a pair of speeding tickets this month. Video of the second incident has emerged.
Starting point is 00:22:11 The officer said that the ticket from Shadour was given that he had speed in excess of 100 miles per hour when he was going 41 miles over the speed limit. This has much been discussed on whether it's fair to criticize Shadour for speeding when no other rookie traffic citations are being published. It's hard for me to beat, cause yo, I got stopped. Uh, I wasn't, I wasn't,
Starting point is 00:22:33 I was a rookie. I think I was like in my third year. I got stopped going 108 in a 60. Yeah. I got stopped at 92. So I got two tickets in about 10 minutes. So speeding, I get it. You know, young guy, he probably, I don't know what kind of car he had. A Cullinan, a truck. So, you know, something about speeding and young people. You know, you got a heavy, you got a left foot, you know, I got a left foot. but I was playing here in Atlanta and them challenges that just came out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:12 And I had one, Jeff T had one, Josh Smith had one. So we get back to Atlanta one night off the road by two in the morning, we're on 285, tan and rolled up. He he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he. By two in the morning, we're on 285, tan and rolled up. We're on 285, tan and rolled up. Man, I'm the only one getting pulled over. Did you? Huh? How fast were you going?
Starting point is 00:23:36 We all was over 100. Now you know, I think in Georgia, if you go over 100 or 30 miles over the speed limit, they normally take your ass to jail. Yeah, but look, you know, I had a black police officer pull me over and he knew who I was, he gave me some grace. He gave me some grace. I was very respectful now. They kept on going, so they got away.
Starting point is 00:23:58 He got behind me, pulled him, I said, dang, I went on and pulled over. Look, one thing we ain't finna do, had a high speed I It's late at night and that room it's already I mean the faster you go it looks like I mean, you know, I'm Driven so fast. I mean the the checks look like a single line. I mean you passed everything so quick It was two in the morning when it wasn't nobody on the free. I'm'm talking about we were, I'm talking about hot tailing down through that year. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:28 Yeah. Yeah, so I know, I know, you know, being young, you're having a lot of money in fast cars. You're gonna test it out from time to time. But you gotta realize, your Shadura Sanders, you know what comes with that last name, you know who your father is, so the things that you do will probably get criticized, scrutinized a little bit more than another 21, 22, 23 year old would. And his last name isn't Sanders. His last name isn't. His father isn't Coach Prid. Okay, now you got two in a month. You should be good.
Starting point is 00:25:07 You gotta change that now. You gotta change that. Once I got those tickets, you know what? It changed because I think the thing was is my brother said, bro, look, I understand, you know, you young, X, Y, and Z. I said, but he's like, bro, if that tie blows, it's over. I said, and then what, Granny?
Starting point is 00:25:29 You know, you basically, you know, you just killed your granny. Yeah. So I took that. And so, you know, I had to slow it down. I had to slow it down. I mean, you got, I got two tickets and the one at 108 and another at 92 in a span of 10 minutes. I like, okay.
Starting point is 00:25:43 Because you don't, you don't think about the worst that could possibly happen. Not at that time, not at that time. Know what I mean? You flooring that thing. I know, I done been there, man. I done been there, but you're right. The boy tie blowout, something happened.
Starting point is 00:25:58 And that's normally, you see guys have these tragic accidents to where you end up hitting somebody and it's a fatal car accident, and that's the one thing you do not want.
