Hey guys and welcome back to the Clutterbug podcast.
Today we're talking about clarity and finding your why.
Thank you guys so much for joining me.
Today I'm going to talk about it's a concept you've probably heard a lot, but I want to maybe share it with you in a different way or a different perspective.
And that is having real clear.
in your life and having the real why behind why you want things in your life. So really identifying
the actual reasoning for things. And I'm not just talking about your home. It could be anything.
It could be your job, your career, your side hustle, anything that is getting healthy,
whatever it is that you really want in your life. Let's dig into the why. And the reason I want to
talk about this today is because I was actually just on another podcast.
I was having an interview with other people who want to start their own online business.
And they were struggling.
They were struggling with gaining a following, building a community, just, yeah, growing, I guess,
their brand.
And they all had really, they were suffering from the same thing.
And that was a lack of clarity and a lack of like their why.
So when I asked them, some of them were selling sensi candles, others were doing like fitness.
one was selling makeup from a multi-level marketing.
And the why for all of them, what they thought the why was, was money.
Right?
They wanted to earn more money.
And so that's why they had started these businesses.
But money is never a good why.
It's never a good reason because it's not something we really feel passionate about.
I mean, it's nice to have.
Don't get me wrong.
But it's that type of goal that if we're not reaching it, we feel like a failure.
And it's the type of goal that's constantly going to change and grow.
and get bigger and it can never really fulfill us. And I know what you're thinking. If you're struggling
with money, you're like, oh yeah, well, that's easy for you to say. But I can promise you that money,
that should never be your why. So when we're talking about, I know some of you were like,
what does this have to do with organizing? I promise I'll get there. But when talking about your
business for the girl who did makeup, her end goal, what she thought and what she was focusing on was
getting orders so she could make money. But with a simple shift to understanding a different reason,
having clarity about her job and understanding her why, that was what would change everything.
So when talking with her, she loves makeup because she used to feel really insecure about herself.
She felt ugly and she didn't put herself out there and she had really low self-confidence
and learning to put on makeup transformed her. She felt.
beautiful it made her feel confident it gave her you know that self-confidence that she was
really lacking and she's not using makeup to cover herself up she's using makeup to put
herself out there to feel even better about herself that was her why she wanted
other women to feel that same way and as soon as she started looking at her
business from that perspective instead of oh man I have to get these sales
because I have to make the money that's when
everything changed. She found the why. She found her passion. She found her real reason for doing things.
And that has to be in every aspect of our life. So when you're looking at your home and why do you
want to get organized, well, you don't want it to look a mess anymore. That's not the real reason.
The real reason is because having a tidy home brings you joy. It makes your family happy.
It gives you more time for the things that you love in life. It's a joy. It's a joy.
change of perspective. It's giving you the real reason to get up and do it because not having it be
messy, that's not enough. That isn't enough of a why. That isn't clear. It doesn't have enough
clarity to actually motivate you to do it. You need to change your perspective and find the real
why. You hate picking up after your family. Every time I used to clean the house, I used to hate it.
And I'd say to myself, you know, I hate being the maid and I'm picking up after other
people and it's not fair. But why was I really picking up? Was it because I wanted to pick up after other people?
No. It's because having a clean and tidy home made me happy. It fulfilled me. It brought me joy.
It wasn't even about them. And yes, it would be nice if they were picking up. But having that be what I'm
focusing on while I'm doing it was not making me enjoy it and it was making me procrastinate it.
when I changed my perspective and I made the why my happiness and I made it about me,
I actually started enjoying it and doing it and it no longer felt like this horrible burden and hard
work. So I really want you to think about this for every single aspect of your life,
not just what you're doing for a career or yeah, the state of your home, everything. I want you to think
of the why. And I'm starting to change this.
when it comes to my health and my eating. For a really long time, I looked at dieting as it isn't fair.
It isn't fair that I don't get to have the chocolate cake. I'm depriving myself. When I'm on a diet
or I'm, you know, choosing healthy foods over foods that I feel like taste good, it was a negative to me.
I was looking at that as a negative. When I change my perspective to I'm healthy and I enjoy putting
healthy, nutritious food in me, and I don't want to put food in me that isn't nutritious,
that I'm a healthy person and the why behind it is longevity and happiness and energy and health.
I look at food differently. And that's the change that is going to change everything. It's that
clarity. It's that change of perspective that we all need to do. So of course, Clutterbug is all about
organizing in your home. So if you're listening to this podcast, you're probably either you love
organizing like I do or you're like I used to be and you really struggle to get on top of things.
I can promise you that your perspective and how you're looking at things and the reason that you
want to get organized in the first place is a huge stumbling block for why it's not happening.
And by simply making a shift in your attitude and your train of thought and discovering the real why,
Why do you really want an organized home?
Is it so when your neighbor comes over, they're envious that your house is clean?
Of course not.
That's not the real why.
Is it because you want your mother-in-law to, you know, think that you have your crap together?
Of course not.
It's because you want to feel in control.
Not that you want to feel.
You like feeling in control of your own life.
You like having a relaxing clean home.
Why are you purging?
is it because Marie Kondo tells you that you can't have things that don't bring you joy?
Is it because everyone in society is telling you that you need to have less stuff and you have too much?
No, it's because having less stuff means more time for you.
It means less stress and it means you can focus on the things that really bring you happiness.
That's your why.
And it's so important that you know that and you remind yourself of the why, the real why.
I want you to write it down and I want you, whatever it is that you are looking at changing in your life,
I want you to write down three whys to give yourself some clarity, three keywords that you
want to remind yourself and repeat over and over in order to achieve the goal, whatever it is.
If it's getting healthy, I want you to make sure that that energy is part of that or feeling good or longevity,
that that's your reasoning, that's your clarity, and then put those words into your phone as a reminder
every couple of hours. I have this Remind Me app that I was able to install in my phone, so it reminds me
every four hours, but it doesn't remind me between the hours of 11 and 8 a.m. But it reminds me,
and these words pop up, be loving, be present, and be healthy. Because those are the areas of my life that I really want
clarity on everything that I do I want to know the why behind it why sometimes can can get distracted
it can get it can get lost between other things you know that that aren't really important so when
you're looking at your home and you want to transform it and have it clean and organized make your
why is more time make your why a feeling of peace or feeling happy and joy and not feeling
stress so so the positive of that is feeling calm. Those are your wise because it makes you happy.
You're doing it because you enjoy the result. And when you focus on that, you're going to enjoy
the process. I know it seems like that you're not actually going to like decluttering and organizing,
but you will. You're in control of your own thoughts. You are in control of what you like and what you don't.
and it can be as simple as a small shift from thinking of something in a negative way to thinking of something
in a positive way. And it's probably been your whole life that you looked at cleaning your house as a
negative thing like, oh, groan, I got to clean my house. So it may take time in constant reminding
to change that perspective to looking it as a positive, but it will happen. And when it does,
it'll be second nature for you. It won't be a chore. And because it isn't a chore,
you're going to be doing it more often. And because you're doing it more often and will never get
really bad and become a lot of actual work. And before you know it, you're going to have a home that's
just perpetually clean and tidy without you giving a second thought to it. And it starts,
it starts with changing your perception and having clarity of your why. So that's the podcast I wanted
to share with you today. Short and sweet and to the point, I want you to think about whatever it is your
goal is in your life one goal don't think of all the goals one goal and i want you to come up with three
words positive words for your why why you want to do those things and put sticky notes or put reminders
in your phone to remind you of those three words on a regular basis until that thought is second
nature until those words just come to your mind without you having to force them i promise you it's crazy man
I don't know what's some Oprah secret kind of shit, some universe woofoo kind of crazy crap,
but I promise you it actually works. It really, really does. And so you might be rolling your eyes
right now, but give it a try. What if you have to lose? You literally have nothing to lose and
absolutely everything to gain. Thank you guys so much for listening. I hope you enjoyed and I'm going to
see you next time.
