Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Jessica Eddinger, CNBC. Wall Street opens Thursday morning after a record setting Wednesday on Wall Street. The S&P 500 index hitting a fresh record high. Investors digesting quarterly results from chipmaker Nvidia. The Dow was up 147 points, 3 tenths of a percent. Sales Force shares led that higher. The S&P 500 index up 15. The NASDAQ was up 45 points, heading into the earnings release at the cost. close, NVIDIA shares were down about a tenth of a percent, and they bounced around after hours when numbers came out. InVIDIA out with better than expected quarterly results for both earnings and revenue, but data center revenue missed estimates a little bit. The company's stock performance is crucial to Americans who have S&P 500 index funds in their retirement accounts. It's 8% of the S&P 500, so it can swing the index almost no matter what happens.
Starting point is 00:00:57 That's CNBC's Mike Santoli. investors say you have to keep the big picture in focus with NVIDIA. Here's the Gabli funds John Belton on CNBC. I think NVIDIA's got a big lead, a big head start on all competition, particularly China. I think the most formidable Chinese semiconductor design competitors are still years behind NVIDIA. But if the U.S. decides to clamp down and restrict China, which it doesn't seem like they're doing anymore, there are workarounds.
Starting point is 00:01:26 And I think, you know, in an environment where Chinese companies are, restricted from getting NVIDIA, Huawei can be a decent alternative. So that's why I think the U.S. administration is smart to allow NVIDIA to participate in China. I think we're better off if Chinese AI is built on a U.S. company's products. Also, after the closing bell on Wednesday, crowd strike reported better than expected quarterly results. Snowflake's earnings beat expectations. MongoDB shares surged on a big beat for. its quarter. Gold is back up very close to its record high of $3,534 an ounce. The Trump White
Starting point is 00:02:08 House pressuring Fed Governor Lisa Cook to go on leave as President Trump wants to replace her with someone who might vote to cut interest rates as the president would like. Cook vows to fight for her job. Google's been slimming down its workforce in the past year. The company's gotten rid of a third of its managers overseeing small teams. Employees in 10 product areas were presented with voluntary exit program offers. Market talk about the Taylor Swift-Travs Kelsey engagement, which may have moved the shares of Ralph Lauren here are CNBC's Mike Santoli and Carl Kintanilla. Analyst and Jeffries note that both Swift and Kelsey were wearing Lauren outfits during their proposal.
Starting point is 00:02:48 The firm notes that Google Trends data in recent hours shows a significant spike in search interest for Lauren dresses and Taylor Swift, Ralph Lauren. Meantimecc.com pointing out this pop and shares a signet after. Swift's diamond appeared to be a cushion cut design. Wolf Research making a Swift mention in its metals note writing. We're not sure what precious metal Travis used for the engagement ring, but is there a prettier chart than silver on a monthly basis? Starting point is 00:03:18 On Thursday's watch list, earnings are coming from Best Buy, Bath and Body Works, Jack Daniels maker, Brown Foreman, Burlington stores, Dick Sporting Goods, Dollar General, Hormel, Foods, Victoria's Secret, Affirm, Dell, Gap, Petco, and Alta Beauty. We find out how many people applied for unemployment benefits. We also get a look at economic growth with some GDP data, gross domestic product.
