Starting point is 00:00:01 I'm Jessica Eddinger, CNBC. Wall Street opens Monday morning after a mixed Friday and a losing week for the major averages. The Dow was down 285 points led lower by shares of Goldman Sachs, which were down almost 4%. The S&P 500 index up two points Friday and the NASDAQ up 65. Shares of Nvidia up 1.5% on Friday to $187. $10. Intel shares tanked Friday 17% manufacturing troubles overshadowed better than expected quarterly results. Companies who shares hit fresh all-time highs Friday include oil names like Exxon and Valero, plus Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Carvana and Micron. The market as a whole has been stuck. Okay, we were down about a 30% in the S&P this week. It feels like it was a non-event. We're up 1.7 from the lows the other day.
Starting point is 00:00:56 Sounds great like we avoided this divot. On the other hand, we're at the level. we're at in late October. CNBC's Mike Santoli. Gold with a new all-time high Friday. Capping its best week in six years, silver topping $100 an ounce on Friday. Also a fresh high. Manuel Life's John Hancock's Matt Miskin tells CNBC.
Starting point is 00:01:16 He thinks metals, though, may have already run up. You know, in the metals right now, one of the other big lessons we're trying to, you know, instill an investors is to not get the case of the FOMO. So fear missing out right now is what we're seeing in the I'm cautious there. I think that you're actually trimming into strength, it might be a better idea. Airlines with thousands of cancellations and delays because of severe winter weather sweeping the U.S. from New Mexico to Maine, change and cancellation fees waived at major names like
Starting point is 00:01:45 Delta United American JetBlue, Southwest, and more. Schedules could be impacted for a full week. States of emergencies and preparedness in at least a dozen states because of freezing rain, sleet, ice, and snow power outages, a major fear. fear. Americans are bracing for higher heating bills. Natural gas soared heading into the severe weather. When you have a trigger like a big storm that is going to lift demand and potentially, we expect it's going to disrupt supply as well because it freezes the wells. It freezes. We think more than 10% of U.S. natural gas production. Okay. I was going to ask you, about 10% you think of natural gas could be too frozen to use. I mean, the equipment?
Starting point is 00:02:28 Well, the gas itself. That's Goldman Sachs, Samantha Dart on CNBC with CNBC's Brian Sullivan. Consumers are feeling better about their finances and the future in the new University of Michigan. January numbers the best since last summer. 56.4 is our headline. We're expecting 54 a big beat. This would be the best level since August of last year. CNBC's Rick Santelli.
Starting point is 00:02:54 CBS and Fox hoping for record ratings for the two NFL conference. championship games on Sunday, with millions of Americans staying inside because of severe winter weather, barring power outages. You would assume that TV ratings would be up if you're in the house and you don't have anything else to do. So I called around to some sports media executives, some sources at Nielsen, and I said, look, does the data back this up? And they basically told me, yeah, it does. The AFC championship and the NFC championship are two of the highest rated games all season for anything. CNBC's Alex Sherman.
