Starting point is 00:00:00 CNBC Business News Update Market Close. I'm Jessica Ettinger. Wall Street opens Wednesday morning after a losing Tuesday and a losing start to September trading in the books. As the U.S. launched fresh attacks on Iran. Bond yields popped. Oil prices spiked and stocks fell. The Dow down 419 points led lower by shares of Sherwin Williams down 2.5%. The S&P 500 indexed down 54 points. And the NASDAQ was down. 271 points, that was more than 1%. Chipmaker names almost all in the red. You can see this leg in the afternoon lower in the S&P 500.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Shows you how tightly interlocked these markets are. It was exactly as a 10-year yield touched 4.8%, exactly as WTI crossed back above $90 a barrel. And so therefore you had a sort of full return and a test of the bottom of this August range, this breakout range, going back to, you know, really takes you to the highs of May. Starting point is 00:01:06 Sometimes angst leads to opportunities. So, you know, AI is building out. You're seeing a lot of opportunities here for investors to dip their toes in on these pullbacks. Dell shares popped 5% in after hours trading on Tuesday. It lifted its fiscal 2027 forecast on AI server strength. WTI, West Texas Intermediate U.S. crude oil back above $90 a barrel. Prices at the pump for America. American drivers started September with a national average of 410 a gallon for regular, according to AAA. The U.S. war with Iran in its seventh month. Before the U.S. launched missiles into Iran, the national average for a gallon of regular was 298. Fewer job openings in August than expected. Here's CNBC's Rick Santelli. Jolt's job opening and labor turnover. Expecting the number slightly north of 7.3 million comes in on the light side.
